Mollie Hemingway drops Eric Ciaramella name as "Whistleblower" on National TV
I love her
[Red State] For over a month now it has been an open secret in Washington that the so-called whistleblower whose complaint kicked off the impeachment farce led by Adam Schiff is a CIA employee named Eric Ciaramella. Ciaramella has ties to the Democrat party, to Joe Biden, to John Brennan, to Democrat operative Alexandra Chalupa, and was booted from the National Security Council for leaking information designed to damage the Trump administration.
What a charmer that man is, to be sure.
Ciaramella's allies are gaslighting us by falsely claiming that Ciaramella is owed "anonymity" for his perfidy. This is simply a lie in all aspects. The only person, according to law or regulation who can't release Ciaramella's name is the Intelligence Community IG. Whistleblower status merely gives him immunity from retribution based on this action, it does not cover public shaming or disciplinary actions not related to the complaint. For instance, we know that Ciaramella was not cleared to see the transcript of the Trump call to Ukraine President Zelensky. By accessing that information and then bundling it into a complaint he broke the law. That is actionable. In fact, hammering whistleblowers on unrelated actions was raised to an art form in the Obama administration.
FB is deleting posts their bots find with his name.

Bolivia's president announces his resignation
[ABC - among many sources] Bolivian President Evo Morales has announced his resignation, seeking to calm the country after weeks of unrest over a disputed election that he had claimed to win
5:15 p.m.

Bolivian President Evo Morales has announced his resignation, seeking to calm the country after weeks of unrest over a disputed election that he had claimed to win.

He made the move Sunday hours after the Organization of American States called for a new a presidential election, citing irregularities in the Oct. 20 vote.

‐‐‐

4:45 p.m.

The head of Bolivia's Supreme Electoral Tribunal has resigned after an audit of the Oct. 20 presidential election concluded there were irregularities in the vote.

The tribunal president, María Eugenia Choque, announced her resignation on Sunday.

A preliminary report by the Organization of American States found a "heap of observed irregularities" in the presidential contest and said a new vote should be held.

The attorney general's office in Bolivia then said it would investigate the judges on the electoral tribunal.

‐‐‐

4 p.m.

Bolivia's military chief says that President Evo Morales should resign so that stability can be restored after weeks of protests over his disputed election.

Speaking on national television, Gen. Williams Kaliman also appealed to Bolivians to desist from violence.

He stepped in after Morales agreed earlier in the day to hold a new election.

Morales' claim to have won a fourth term last month has triggered fraud allegations, deadly protests and a split among security forces.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Former Israeli Intel Official Claims Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell Worked for Israel
[MPN News] Since the apparent death by suicide of Jeffrey Epstein in a Manhattan prison, much has come to light about his depraved activities and methods used to sexually abuse underage girls and entrap the rich and powerful for the purposes of blackmail. Epstein’s ties to intelligence, described in-depth in a recent MintPress investigative series, have continued to receive minimal mainstream media coverage, which has essentially moved on from the Epstein scandal despite the fact that his many co-conspirators remain on the loose.

For those who have examined Epstein’s ties to intelligence, there are clear links to both U.S. intelligence and Israeli intelligence, leaving it somewhat open to debate as to which country’s intelligence apparatus was closest to Epstein and most involved in his blackmail/sex-trafficking activities. A recent interview given by a former high-ranking official in Israeli military intelligence has claimed that Epstein’s sexual blackmail enterprise was an Israel intelligence operation run for the purpose of entrapping powerful individuals and politicians in the United States and abroad.

In an interview with Zev Shalev, former CBS News executive producer and award-winning investigative journalist for Narativ, the former senior executive for Israel’s Directorate of Military Intelligence, Ari Ben-Menashe, claimed not only to have met Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged madam, Ghislaine Maxwell, back in the 1980s, but that both Epstein and Maxwell were already working with Israeli intelligence during that time period.

"THEY FOUND A NICHE"
In an interview last week with the independent outlet Narativ, Ben-Menashe, who himself was involved in Iran-Contra arms deals, told his interviewer Zev Shalev that he had been introduced to Jeffrey Epstein by Robert Maxwell in the mid-1980s while Maxwell’s and Ben-Menashe’s involvement with Iran-Contra was ongoing. Ben-Menashe did not specify the year he met Epstein.

Ben-Menashe told Shalev that "he [Maxwell] wanted us to accept him [Epstein] as part of our group .... I’m not denying that we were at the time a group that it was Nick Davies [Foreign Editor of the Maxwell-Owned Daily Mirror], it was Maxwell, it was myself and our team from Israel, we were doing what we were doing." Past reporting by Seymour Hersh and others revealed that Maxwell, Davies and Ben-Menashe were involved in the transfer and sale of military equipment and weapons from Israel to Iran on behalf of Israeli intelligence during this time period.

He then added that Maxwell had stated during the introduction that "your Israeli bosses have already approved" of Epstein. Shalev later noted that Maxwell "had an extensive network in Israel at the time, which included [the later Prime Minister] Ariel Sharon, according to Ben-Menashe."

Lengthy article.

Ari Ben-Menashe (Hebrew: ארי בן מנשה; born Tehran, 4 December 1951)[1] is an Iranian-born Israeli businessman, security consultant and author. He was previously an employee of Israel's Military Intelligence Directorate from 1977 to 1987 and an arms dealer.[2] He now lives in Montreal, Canada, and runs an international commodity exporting firm, Traeger Resources and Logistics Inc.[3]

He’s the one who leaked the Iran-Contra story to the press.

#10  It's not like he was a dedicated asset for a particular govt. Mercenary services of several kinds are employed by almost all apparatus around the world. Why, he could have worked for Russians, Chinese, Americans, anyone at any time and his immediate loyalties could have overlapped and intersected at any point. He was a service provider, plain and simple. He used his means to live this wild life, and wielded this power over compromised people and that's what got him killed. I assume there are several such service providers still in the US. They would enjoy the confidence of several bureaucrats and politicians.

Rich, powerful people need their indulgences and a safe space to enjoy what their power purchases. Men like Epstein supply that need and acquire information, favors, leverage etc over the years. Most of the time they do not even put it on the market at all.

I've read and heard about his stupid ideas of populating his estate with mini epsteins, spraying his sperm around. If the Israelis, or any credible agency was running him, mental instability alone would invite a 'termination'. The Farm people regularly choose to keep working with such unstable elements though.

Impeachment poker: Hold ‘em, fold ‘em or leave the game? | Korda
h/t Instapundit
[KnoxNews] "I’ll fold on Russia, but I’m going to raise you on Ukraine."

That’s essentially the poker hand House Democrats are playing in their zeal to do something, anything, to get rid of sometimes-bizarre President Donald Trump. Impeachment is the last card Democrats have to play, and they’ve thrown it on the table.

There are two principal reasons for the current Capitol Hill Circus, the same reasons that dominate on virtually everything in D.C.: hold onto and expand power. Government at its core is an organism, and organisms have two basic functions, to survive and reproduce, which means the Washington priority is to keep their jobs and increase their authority.

"It’s really about power," says U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett, who represents Tennessee’s 2nd Congressional District and sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, one of the committees engaged in the impeachment inquiry. "Both parties and their leaderships want to keep it or get it from the others."

The Mueller Report was the card Democrats thought would show Trump’s campaign was in cahoots with Russia to turn the 2016 election. For months, Democratic leaders spoke of the two-year investigation in breathless, apocalyptic intonations. They bet the pot on the Mueller Report, and came away from the table empty-handed.

The Democrat’s frustration is that although the deficit is growing, the economy overall is doing well. The stock market is way up, and unemployment is way down. If the economy’s strength holds, it evokes the enduring mantra of 1992 Bill Clinton presidential campaign ("It’s the economy, stupid"), which would mean Trump is in a strong position to win re-election.

The Democrats’ top three contenders for president, according to the most recent polling, are Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden. Sens. Warren and Sanders, if they promise any more free stuff (at taxpayer expense), they could campaign in red suits from reindeer-drawn sleighs with elves on the back. Former Vice President Biden can’t seem to locate many positions he’s held in the past in which he now believes.

Therefore, Democrats have two options, unless the economy does a fast and hard dive between now and Election Day:

Hope that the electorate will spurn the economy and vote based on what candidates are promising.

Generate enough crud that voters come down with Trump Fatigue.

The impeachment inquiry is all about the latter.

The Radicalizing of Eric Ciaramella
[Spectator] While the lawyers representing Eric Ciaramella, the alleged "whistleblower" in the Trump impeachment fiasco, describe him as having spent his entire career in "apolitical civil servant positions," the truth is that Eric Ciaramella has been involved in radical political behavior throughout his life - including his years at Yale.
WTF has Obama wrought in America ?

In fact, long before he was digging up dirt with the DNC's Alexandra Chalupa about President Trump's mythical collusion with Russia, Ciaramella was involved in leading a protest over what he believed was the poor treatment of Bassam Frangieh, a radical professor of Arabic Studies at Yale. On April 15, 2005, then first-year Yale student Ciaramella dressed in all white to lead a contingent of ten similarly dressed first-year Yale Arabic students to the offices of the Provost and the President of the university to demand that the university provide an incentive to encourage Frangieh to stay at Yale. The students were unhappy because Frangieh had decided earlier in the school year to accept a tenure-track position at the University of Delaware.

Ciaramella helped to organize a campus-wide letter-writing campaign on behalf of Frangieh which "identified flaws in the administration's policies regarding language instructors at Yale." According to the Yale Daily News, Bassam Frangieh was looking for an opportunity to teach more of the classes that he would like to teach, according to one of the protesters: "His specialty is Arabic language and literature, and he wanted to teach some classes on style and poetry." A week after the protest, Yale’s administration announced that they had "upped the ante with an offer competitive enough to keep one of its star language instructors from leaving Yale.

It is likely that Bassam Frangieh wanted to use literature to be able to shape Yale's undergraduates' views on what he called the "heroic Arabic poet-martyrs" battling against the unjust occupation in Palestine. In 2000, Frangieh published a chapter romanticizing terrorism in a book entitled Tradition, Modernity, and Postmodernity in Arabic Literature. Ciaramella's favorite Yale Arabic professor praised the heroism of Abd al Rahim Mahmud, the "first Arab poet-martyr."
A paleostinian whatsit beloved of intifaders over the world
Mahmud, who is often used to inspire terrorism and suicide bombings among Arab youth, was described by Frangieh as "carrying his soul in the palm of his hand," as he "threw himself into the cavern of death." Romanticizing his terrorism, Frangieh recalls Mahmud's "premature death at age 35, fighting a battle in an attempt to keep Palestine free from foreign occupation, [which]brought dignity to the hearts of his people. Through his death he eliminated the gap between words and action... he shall remain a symbol of heroism and pride for his people."
Do read the entire thing by Anne Hendershott at the Spectator. I tell you, my mind was blown.

9/11 Hero Rick Rescorla Posthumously Awarded Presidential Citizens Medal
[Victory Girls] Rick Rescorla, a soldier and a hero. From the battlefields of Vietnam to that sunny day on September 11, 2001, Rick Rescorla saved lives. Last night President Trump posthumously awarded Rick Rescorla the Presidential Citizens Award.
"President Trump gave out the Presidential Citizens Medal on Thursday to a deceased hero of the 9/11 terror attacks, credited with saving the lives of thousands of people.

The honor was given to the late Rick Rescorla, a Brisith-born Vietnam vet, who was in charge of security for the financial firm Morgan Stanley, located in the Twin Towers.

When the first plane hit the North Tower on Sept. 11, 2001, Rescorla started evacuating employees in the South Tower, calming them down when a second plane hit their tower too.

Rescorla saved the lives of nearly 2,700, but not his own. He was last seen climbing the stairs of the South Tower trying to save more."

There is so much more to Rick’s story. He was a British paratrooper who served with the British Army on Cyprus and then in Rhodesia. Not long after that he emigrated to the United States and joined the Army. This man, who had already been in battle, joined up in time to go to battle again. This time at the Battle of la Drang. The loss of the men he served with never left him. It is his photo that is the cover of "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young."
"In 1965 Rescorla knew war. His men did not, yet. To steady them, to break their concentration away from the fear that may grip a man when he realizes there are hundreds of men very close by who want to kill him, Rescorla sang. Mostly he sang dirty songs that would make a sailor blush. Interspersed with the lyrics was the voice of command: ’Fix bayonets...on liiiiine...reaaaa-dy...forward.’ It was a voice straight from Waterloo, from the Somme, implacable, impeccable, impossible to disobey. His men forgot their fear, concentrated on his orders and marched forward as he led them straight into the pages of history: 1st Platoon, Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry...’Hard Corps.’"
Years later, as head of security for Morgan Stanley, Rick found himself in another fight. One against terrorism. After the first attack on the Twin Towers, Rick instituted mandatory evacuation drills. He KNEW that another attack would happen. He wanted every person who worked in those offices to be prepared. He wanted every person in those offices to be able to react immediately.

On that day, that fateful day when terrorists tried to bring us to our knees, Rick Rescorla’s planning and training saved lives. 2,700 lives in fact. While building personnel were ordering people to stay at their desks, Rick bullied Morgan Stanley employees into moving out to safety.

Small business ‘optimism' at record high, up 160% under Trump
[Washington Examiner] A national economic optimism index of small business owners is at its highest level ever, up 162% since the final months of President Obama’s two terms.

The Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index is at +142 compared to +54 at the end of the Obama administration.

"When owners are asked a broad question about their financial outlook ’for your business’ over the next year, 77% say they are more optimistic than pessimistic," added the survey begun in 2003.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
After burying last victims, some in Mexico's breakaway Mormon community head north
COLONIA LEBARON, Mexico (Reuters) - Members of a breakaway Mormon community tucked in the hills of northern Mexico buried the last of their dead on Saturday after a devastating massacre, and some headed for safer ground in the United States.

Hundreds of friends and family from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border gathered in rural Colonia LeBaron to honor Christina Langford, who died in an ambush on Monday that killed nine. Family members say she exited her car with her arms outstretched to signal she was not a gang member - but not before wedging her infant daughter’s car seat on the floor of the vehicle.

The baby, Faith, was found unharmed in the bullet-riddled sport utility vehicle.

In a simple wooden church, pews were packed for a service that brought to a close three straight days of funerals. At the center of the altar, an arrangement of white flowers spelled the word "Mommy."

"She brought light wherever she went," said Grecia Yuvel LeBaron, a friend of Langford’s. "We grew up together and thought that we would be friends forever."

With the rites of mourning behind them, many in the community are now at a crossroads, unsure whether they are willing to risk staying in Mexico after the murders shattered their sense of safety.

Philippines Grant Iranian Beauty Queen Asylum Following Extradition Request
[Jpost] Bahareh Zare Bahiri,
...previously in our archives as Bahareh Zare Bahari, she represented Iran at the world famous Miss Intercontinental competition in 2018...
an Iranian-national and recognized beauty queen, has been granted asylum by the Philippine government after a near four-week stand-off in Manila’s Ninoy Aquino international airport - regarding a worldwide "red notice" Iranian authorities put on her passport, alerting Interpol - requesting her extradition back to the Islamic Theocratic Republic, and putting a temporary suspension on her international visa.

The "red notice," which Bahari, 31, was notified thereof upon her arrival at the Philippine airport in Manila on October 17, after returning from a trip to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, was issued by Iranian authorities citing a warrant for her arrest stemming from an offense committed in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
- a claim which the beauty queen vehemently denies.

Bahari in contrast, who has been living in the Phillipines since 2014 and has not returned to Iran since, claims that the charges are false and that instead the Iranian regime wishes to extradite her in order to charge her for political dissidence and for openly condemning archaic government practices within the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

"They will kill me", Bahari told Britannia’s Daily Telegraph last month, claiming that she feared for her life if she were to be deported from the southeastern Asian country. Bahari used her social media following to rally support from the international community, including the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

“When I got out of Iran I started to be a voice of my people, especially women. I always think: ’How can I make my voice louder?’ So I decided to participate in the beauty pageant. I thought it’d be a good chance to talk about politics," Bahari told the Guardian.

"The real reason [Tehran is seeking to extradite me] is that the regime is against political activists and is anti-women. They are trying to silence me, to scare other women in Iran to become quiet. The women of Iran are tired of this regime that doesn’t give basic freedom. When they come to the street sharia police stop them and bring them to the police office: ’Why do you wear clothes like that?’ It’s like we’re in prison," she continued.

The Phillipine justice department gave Bahari her refugee status on November 6, the document from the department said on Saturday. She has now been ordered to go to the Bureau of Immigration so that she may receive her official visa and registration certificate to work and live within the Phillipines - travel documents will also be issued to the Iranian-national stemming from the Phillipine government and Philippine Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete.

"She will be getting out of the airport and coming into Philippine territory," Perete said.

Amnesia Amnesty International before the asylum decision was made, described Bahari as "a vocal critic of the Iranian authorities and a public opponent of forced veiling. If the Philippines authorities send her to Iran she risks arrest, torture and other ill-treatment, and unfair trial and imprisonment."

She represented Iran at the Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant held in Manila last year, and has gained wide notoriety for her work as a model and actress within the country. She entered stardom in 2018, when she raised a poster of Reza Pahlavi, former exiled Iranian crown prince from the revolution of 1979 and harsh critic of the current Iranian government - in addition, Bahari wore a dress representing the flag of the ousted regime of the time during her catwalk.

Bahari has been studying dentistry in the southeastern Asian country since 2014, the same year she left the Islamic Theocratic Republic, according to a Facebook video.

The decision to grant her asylum request was approved after Bahari revealed her deteriorating mental health due to her four-week detention in the airport - following fears she would be executed upon her deportation.

"I’m not in good condition," Bahareh Zare Bahari, 31, told the Guardian on Wednesday from Manila’s Ninoy Aquino international airport. "My hair has started falling [out, and is in] bad condition because of the stress. Sometimes mentally I become too sick... I have no privacy here, because there’s no door in the room, so I’m always worried when I want to change my clothes."

"All the walls here are white, the bed is white, everything is white ... there is always light here. When I check my phone I can’t understand if it’s 7am or 7pm. I’m losing time, sometimes I’m losing my mind."

According to Bahari's Facebook page, she is still reportedly holed up in the airport, fearing for her life if she leaves, acting on recommendations from her counsel - one day after being given asylum.

"I don’t need a government to spend money on me, I can stand on my feet. I just need a safe place to continue my life," she concluded.

Dan Shapiro: Military assistance to Israel also serves U.S. interests
[Jpost] Ensuring that Israel has capabilities to defend itself against regional threats serves Israel’s interests, but also serves the United States’ interest, says former US ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro.

Speaking in a conference call hosted Friday by the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), Shapiro addressed the discussion within the Democratic Party about conditioning aid to Israel as a leverage to change the government’s policies.

"There is an enormous amount of sharing of intelligence," said the former ambassador. "Israeli intelligence has high-quality technology; Israeli technology is high quality; joint training ‐ our forces training with Israel and learning from them as they learned from us. Benefits and this relationship flow both ways. And so, in that regard, the US assistance program to Israel is not an act of altruism. While it is certainly generous on the part of the American taxpayers, and we should feel good about it, and it has saved many lives particularly with programs like Iron Dome, it is also something that very much serves our interests."

Palestinian Authority spent NIS 7b. to fund terror - report

The Israeli watchdog published a financial report of the Paleostinian Authority based on its own financial records for the years 2011-2018.

The report shows that the PA transferred at least NIS 7 billion to the PLO, the umbrella organization for several Paleostinian groups, including the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP) and the Paleostinian Liberation Front. Jewish Agency: Huge spike in requests to secure Jewish centers
[Jpost] The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) has begun upgrading security provisions for 50 Jewish institutions in 24 countries, following a spike in requests for assistance in the wake of increased antisemitic attacks around the world.

Not all upgrades have begun yet, since the Jewish Agency is yet to fully fund the estimated $1.1 million cost of the enhanced security measures that have been requested of it, requests made over the last 12 months.

JAFI is expecting an additional $3m. will be needed for further such requests from Jewish communities in approximately 40 countries by the end of 2020.

Dozens said injured as police clash with Palestinians in East Jerusalem
[IsraelTimes] Tensions in Issawiya reportedly spike after law enforcement renege on deal to stay away from schools during the day.

Border Police officers clashed Saturday night with residents of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya.

According to Paleostinian reports dozens of locals were maimed by tear gas, baton blows and rubber bullets, as was at least one officer, who was hurt by a rock hurled by a rioter.

Tensions have flared in the neighborhood, a site of frequent festivities between Paleostinians and security forces, after the police unilaterally violated an agreement it had with the residents to keep officers away from schools during the school day, Haaretz reported.
Don't allow "No-Go" areas
According to the report, residents reached the agreement with senior coppers on Monday night. But already on Wednesday morning, police units were deployed to school entrances in violation of the deal, the report said.

There was no immediate comment on the festivities from police.

Last month, a passerby was maimed by a Molotov cocktail that was thrown at police but hit his car in Issawiya, police said.

A policeman was also lightly injured as he helped drag the man out of the car, and was treated at the scene.

Gate closes at ‘Isle of Peace’ park as border lands to return to Jordan
[IsraelTimes] Visitors take likely final tour of Naharayim, which along with Tzofar will no longer be accessible to Israelis; local official slams government for failing to prevent ’farewell’.

Israeli soldiers on Saturday closed the gate to a peace park along the Jordanian border for what was likely the final time under Israel’s control, as two sites leased by the country as part of the peace treaty were set to return to Jordan.

Hundreds of visitors took "farewell tours" on Saturday at Naharayim in the Jordan Valley, which along with Tzofar in the southern Arava region was to be closed off to Israelis on Sunday.

Following the last guided tour of the day, Israel Defense Forces troops shuttered the gate to Naharayim around 4:30 p.m., marking its effective return to Jordan.

"This is not a happy day for anyone, this is a sad day. It is a day that we’re sorry has come," Idan Greenbaum, head of the regional council, where Naharayim is located, said before the gate was closed.

The 1994 peace agreement allowed Israel to retain use of the enclaves for 25 years, with the understanding that the lease would be renewed as a matter of routine. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
in October last year, Jordan’s King Abdullah said his country had notified Israel that it wants to take the sites back.

In a video filmed inside the old power plant at Naharayim, Greenbaum said it was a "painful moment" for residents of a nearby kibbutz who have farmed the land for over 70 years and have strongly criticized the government for its unsuccessful efforts to retain access to the site.

Greenbaum told Army Radio on Friday that Jordanian officials informed him that as of Sunday the Naharayim site will be out of bounds.

Asked by AFP for details, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said "the agreement will expire on November 10th," without elaborating.

Channel 13 reported Thursday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s national security adviser, Meir Ben-Shabbat, had met Monday in Amman with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi who told him there would be no extension to the Naharayim and Tzofar leases.

Citing "senior sources" in Jordan, it said Safadi instead suggested that compensation be paid to the Israeli farmers for crops remaining at the sites after the handover.

Since the heady days of the 1994 treaty, which made Jordan only the second country after Egypt to make peace with Israel, relations with Amman have been strained.

Opinion polls have repeatedly found that the peace treaty with Israel is overwhelmingly opposed by Jordanians, more than half of whom are of Paleostinian origin.

Naharayim, also known as the Isle of Peace, is the site of a deadly March 1997 attack in which a group of schoolgirls from Beit Shemesh were fired upon during an outing to the area. The girls and their unarmed teachers were standing on a hill above an abandoned lake in the enclave when a Jordanian soldier opened fire on them and killed seven of the schoolchildren.

Following the killings, the late King Hussein of Jordan made an unprecedented trip to each of the victims’ homes in Israel to express his personal sorrow and the grief of his nation.

Officials in Israel have expressed concerns that the ending of the lease signaled a desire on Jordan’s part to effectively downgrade diplomatic ties, and many see it as a reflection of intense domestic pressure from a Jordanian public that still largely views Israel as an enemy.

But Jordan has said it was exercising its legal right in deciding not to renew the agreement and denied the move would affect the decades-old peace treaty, seeking to assuage fears in Jerusalem that ties could be downgraded.

Multiple agencies warn central govt of possible ‘terror attack’ by JeM
[HindustanTimes] Multiple agencies like the Military Intelligence, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have simultaneously warned the government of a possible attack.

Over the last 10 days, as state governments were asked to gear up for the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Babri Masjid- Ram Janmabhoomi case, the "dark web" had been buzzing with messages from the Pakistain-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and multiple security agencies have now warned the government about a "major terror attack," a senior officer who did not want to be named said.

Importantly, multiple agencies like the Military Intelligence, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) have simultaneously warned the government of a possible attack. "It just indicates the seriousness of the threat," the senior officer said. "Each of these agencies have come to the same conclusion individually," the officer said.

"The frequency of the communication jumped several-fold in the last 10 days as it was increasingly clear that the judgment could be expected anytime," the bigwig said. Importantly, much of the communications through the "dark web," are encrypted and "coded", making the task of security agencies that much more difficult, a second bigwig who did not want to be named said.

With the judgment delivered, the apprehension of a "desperate terror" attack by Pakistain-based terror groups within the security establishment is at an all-time high. "The idea is to trigger communal backlash," the second bigwig said.

Analysing the communications and matching it with other intelligence, security agencies have zeroed in on possible targets and initiated measures to counter the possible threat. The targets include New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

Security agencies have been in a state of heightened alert since August 5, when Parliament scrapped the special status of Jammu & Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
. "The current effort to carry out a terror attack is separate and appears more determined," the second bigwig said.

Trump's Economy Is Working for Minorities
h/t Instapundit
(Bloomberg Opinion) -- Despite his reputation for being racially divisive, President Donald Trump’s approval ratings have drifted upward among nonwhites in the last two years. While it’s impossible to say exactly why, one reasonable explanation is that the U.S.’s long economic expansion has been particularly beneficial for minority workers.

There is strong evidence that Trump’s rhetoric on race is hurting him among minorities.
What strong rhetoric?
Nonetheless, in the latest Gallup poll of presidential job approval, Trump stands at 20% among nonwhites, up from a low of 14% in January. For comparison, the president’s approval ratings among self-identified liberals and moderates are 6% and 29%, respectively.

While Trump’s tweets may be hurting him among minorities, the economy is no doubt helping. As the president is fond of pointing out, unemployment rates among African Americans, Hispanics and Asians are all at historic lows (though it should be noted that data on Asian unemployment rates dates to only 2000).

Just as important, the unemployment gaps between both blacks and whites as well as Hispanics and whites have reached all-time lows. It’s not just that the job market has been good: For minorities, it has been historically good.
However, we never hear him following the right narrative: "white privilege" etc...
Well if for "African-Americans" having a job is NOT more important than having more "African-Americans" in visual positions, then they'll go with Dems - who been b*tt f*cking them since Lyndon.

House Republicans Request Hunter Biden Testify in Public Impeachment Hearing
[SPUTNIKNEWS] Ukrainian oil firm Burisma and former board member Hunter Biden are central in an impeachment inquiry into Trump for allegedly pressuring Ukraine to investigate possible corruption of his political rival's son.

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee have requested that Hunter Biden, son of Former US Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden
...Failed seeker of the Democratic presidential nomination on multiple occasions, vice president under Barack Obama, giving it a last try in his dotage for 2020...
, testify in the impeachment inquiry into US President Donald, according to a document made public Saturday.

As outlined in a letter to Chairman of the committee Adam Schiff
...Showboating U.S. Representative for California's 28th congressional district since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, Schiff has served in Congress since 2001. He currently serves as the chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. In a manner reminiscent of Joe McCarthy, on March 22, 2017, in a interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC Schiff claimed there was “more than circumstantial evidence now” that Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
's campaign colluded with Russia." Todd followed up by asking if he had seen direct evidence of collusion and Schiff responded that there was "evidence that is not circumstantial and is very much worthy of investigation...
, penned by Republican Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Representative Devin Nunes, Hunter Biden and Burisma leadership are on the wish list for witnesses to testify as part of the hearings.

A whistleblower complaint in September brought into attention a telephone conversation between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in which Trump asked for a "favour." It later became known that Trump withheld military aid of up to $400 million. House Democrats soon thereafter launched an impeachment inquiry on the ground of abuse of presidential powers and soliciting a foreign power to interfere in US elections by digging up dirt on a political opponent.

US Secret Service Nervous Over Turkish Security Brawl Ahead of Erdogan’s Visit to US
[SPUTNIKNEWS] The US Secret Service and the Ottoman Turkish diplomatic security staff came to blows against each other during Erdogan’s 2017 visit, in addition to an infamous brawl near the Ottoman Turkish embassy. US officers claimed that the president’s security team attempted to attack a lone female protester.

Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
’s upcoming Wednesday visit to Washington raises concerns of a repeat of the violent altercations involving members of his security staff, The Hill reported Saturday.

In 2017, video footage posted online revealed a violent brawl between what was described as pro-Erdogan and anti-Erdogan protesters, with what appears to be members of the Ottoman Turkish diplomatic security team participating, according to ABC. Washington DC Police were forced to intervene in the melee across the street from the Ottoman Turkish embassy.

Turkeish Anadolu News Agency reported at the time that "the president’s security detail and Ottoman Turkish police" were involved in the fight. Ottoman Turkish Embassy in Washington declined to comment on the people involved in the violence.

In its statement, the Ottoman Turkish Embassy said that the protesters caused the violence by "aggressively provoking" Ottoman Turkish-American citizens who had gathered to greet the president and had responded in self-defense.

The embassy conflict was not an isolated incident, but one of many that took place that day, according to a lawsuit filed by five people against The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
, alleging that Ottoman Turkish diplomatic security went out of its way on US soil to attack protesters during Erdogan’s 2017 visit to the US.

Attached to the lawsuits are testimonies from US Secret Service members who added detail to the incidents, The Hill reports.

According to the US Secret Service staff, Ottoman Turkish security personnel allegedly attacked protesters on numerous occasions en route to the Ottoman Turkish Embassy, at one point jumping out of a van transporting Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to attack a lone female protestor standing by the side of the road.

"I observed 7 Ottoman Turkish ’Suit and tie’ security personnel (one female and 6 males) dismount their passenger van in an all-out sprint running directly toward the single female protestor," one Secret Service agent wrote. "[T]he female protestor eventually bravely ran away and escaped being assaulted."

Upon reaching the Ottoman Turkish embassy, a Ottoman Turkish officer allegedly slapped the hand of a US Diplomatic Security agent over which bags in the trunk of a limousine belonged to the foreign minister, inciting a brawl between the two security teams, the documents claim.

"In an instant, the gaggle of officers and agents went down to the ground in a physical altercation," the agent wrote.

Over the course of that brawl, two Ottoman Turkish agents were handcuffed and detained, and the Ottoman Turkish ambassador to the US had to personally negotiate their release, according to the report.

The Secret Service identified "over a dozen" Ottoman Turkish security officials responsible for "inciting violence" on US soil, although the charges against most were dropped, The Hill report says.

The Ottoman Turkish security placed the responsibility for the altercations on the US Secret Service, and Cavusoglu publicly berated US officers for what he described as their violent actions.

Moscow Hopes ICJ to Reject Ukraine’s Claims in Lawsuit Against Russia Over Donbass, Crimea
[SPUTNIKNEWS] Moscow expects the International Court of Justice to turn down claims made by Ukraine against Russia over the latter’s alleged violations of the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The Russian Federation expects that at the stage of hearing the merits of the dispute, the International Court of Justice will fully take into account Russia’s stance and eventually turn down all of Ukraine’s claims," the ministry said.

Ukraine filed a lawsuit against Russia with the ICJ back in January 2017 on the basis of the two conventions. Ukraine seeks to apply the conventions to the Donbass conflict and Crimea’s reunification with Russia.

On Friday, the court in The Hague, having examined Russia’s objections to the lawsuit, ruled that it has the jurisdiction to hear the case.

Moscow has repeatedly denied claims of involvement in the Donbass crisis and said that the reunification with Crimea followed a referendum held in line with international law.

Bolivia Police Guarding Presidential Palace Abandon Post to Join Protesters
[SPUTNIKNEWS] [TWITTER]
Bolivian coppers guarding the presidential palace have reportedly joined the protests raging across the country, prompting President Evo Morales to convene an emergency meeting amid rapidly escalating unrest. The nation's army is said to be explicitly prevented by law from intervening.

Despite earlier reports of no mutiny in police ranks, guards outside Bolivia's presidential palace on Saturday joined other officers in other cities who have abandoned their posts, increasing pressure on President Evo Morales to resign, AP reported.

According to the media report, the list of demands from dissident coppers includes better working conditions, the resignation of their commander and guarantees that they will not be used as the political "instrument of any government".

Earlier, Bolivian authorities called on dissenting police forces to engage in dialogue, while offering concessions including a pay raise.

"The Bolivian government, in light of the events that took place on November 8-9, are calling on the police forces to engage in an immediate and open dialogue with the aim to make equal pay and a 100 percent pension increase a reality", the government tweeted, asking for a peaceful solution to the crisis.

Gen. Williams Kaliman, the military chief, said Saturday, cited by AP, that the military will not intervene. "We'll never confront the people among whom we live. We guarantee peaceful co-existence [...] This is a political problem and it should be resolved within that realm", Kaliman said.

Unrest in Bolivia erupted in the wake of the 20 October presidential election. Electoral authorities said that Morales had secured a new term in the first round, while rival Carlos Mesa refused to recognize the results of the vote, claiming widespread voter fraud.

The opposition reported irregularities in the vote-counting process, while Morales accused Mesa and his party of trying to overthrow him.

UAE provided Haftar's forces with warship, drones and Sudan sent 1000 fighters
[Libya Observer] A report for the UN panel of experts has revealed that UAE, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
, Jordan, and Sudan have violated the Security Council's arms embargo on Libya, Aljazeera reported on Saturday.

The report is expected to be published to the public in mid-December, according to Aljazeera.

The report says Sudanese military official Mogammed Hamdan "Hemitti" violated the arms embargo on Libya by providing military assistance to warring parties in the country; sending 1000 RSF soldiers to eastern Libya last July.

"Hemitti sent the fighters to secure Benghazi to allow Haftar's forces to attack Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
. Then the Sudanese fighters were positioned in al-Jufra." The report added.

It indicated that the UAE also violated the arms embargo in Libya by giving Haftar's forces air defense system weapons that was installed in al-Jufra airbase and near Gharyan.

The report added that the UAE provided Haftar's forces with drones that fire guided missiles.

According to the report, cited by Aljazeera, Haftar's offensive on Tripoli in last April intended to hinder the UN-led political process.

Students in Tyre Join Pupils Demos for First Time
[AnNahar] Hundreds of students in the southern city of Tyre joined for the first time on Saturday the masses of fellow students in different parts of Leb boosting the country’s anti-government protest movement.

Tyre students chanted "revolution, revolution," expressing anger of an increasing rate in "unemployment," and demanding "new curricula and social rights."

Since Wednesday, university and high school students across the country have massively deserted their classrooms to join nationwide streets protests.

Earlier in October, pro-AMAL button men suppressed by force the protesters chanting slogans opposed to AMAL Movement leader and Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri

. Armed festivities were reported as videos of the festivities went viral on social media.

Thousands of high school students across Leb skipped classes Saturday for a fourth day in a row to carry on the flame of the country's anti-graft movement.

Leb has since October 17 been gripped by massive cross-sectarian protests demanding a complete revamping of a political system they say is corrupt and inept.

With youth unemployment running at over 30 percent, school students have joined en masse since Wednesday demanding a better country so they don't have to emigrate.

Surprise: NJ Muslim Mayor Who Cried 'Islamophobia' Has History of Jihad Support
[PJMedia] Sometimes things aren’t as they seem, and sometimes, on the other hand, they are exactly as they seem. , when "Islamophobia

" struck and destroyed everything in its path. "We just wanted to go and have a good time," he said, but upon return, he was held for no less than three hours for questioning. "I don’t go near shady organizations," he declared and added: "I believe that my constitutional rights were violated" by questions about whether he had met with any terrorists. It turns out, however, that maybe those who questioned Khairullah weren’t racist, bigoted "Islamophobes" after all: Khairullah has a history of support for jihad activity.

Report: Heavy Fighting between Syrian and Turkish Troops
[AnNahar] Syria's state news agency is reporting intense festivities between government forces and Ottoman Turkish troops in the country's north.

SANA said Saturday's festivities included heavy machine gun fire and occurred in the village of Um Shaifa near the town of Ras al-Ayn.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
invaded Syria's northeast last month to push out Syrian Kurdish fighters near the border.

The Kurdish groups called in Syrian government forces to halt Turkey's advance.
“We submitted to you, O Bashir al Assad. Now lets you and him fight!”
Syrian government forces have clashed since with Ottoman Turkish troops and Turkey-backed opposition fighters. Moscow has brokered a shaky truce in northern Syria, but sporadic festivities have continued.

Last week, Ottoman Turkish forces captured 18 Syrian government soldiers in the area and set them free hours later following mediation by Russia.

Iran Says Enriching Uranium to Five Percent
[AnNahar] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
said Saturday it is now enriching uranium to five percent, after a series of steps back from its commitments under a troubled 2015 accord with major powers.

The deal set a 3.67 percent limit for uranium enrichment but Iran announced it would no longer respect it after Washington unilaterally abandoned the agreement last year and reimposed crippling sanctions.

"Based on our needs and what we have been ordered, we are currently producing five percent," Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran front man Behrouz Kamalvandi told a presser.

He said Iran has the "capacity to produce five percent, twenty percent, sixty percent, or any percentage" of enriched uranium, a claim often repeated by Tehran.

Uranium enrichment is the sensitive process that produces fuel for nuclear power plants but also, in highly extended form, the fissile core for a warhead.

The current five percent level exceeds the limit set by the accord but is less than the 20 percent Iran had previously operated and far less than the 90 percent level required for a warhead.

In its fourth step away from the agreement, Iran resumed enrichment at the Fordow plant south of Tehran on Thursday, with engineers feeding uranium hexafluoride gas (UF6) into the plant's mothballed enrichment centrifuges.

Iran was already enriching uranium at another plant in Natanz.

Tehran emphasises the measures it has taken are swiftly reversible if the remaining parties to the deal -- Britannia, China, La Belle France, Germany and Russia -- find a way to get around US sanctions.

On July 1, Iran said it had increased its stockpile of enriched uranium to beyond a 300-kilogramme maximum set by the deal, and a week later, it announced it had exceeded the enrichment cap.

The third move had it firing up advanced centrifuges on September 7 to enrich uranium faster and to higher levels.

‘Baby Trump’ balloon slashed at Alabama appearance

[HindustanTimes] The incident occurred during Trump’s visit to watch the University of Alabama football game. The balloon, which is over 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall, was set up in a nearby park.

A towering "Baby Trump" protest balloon was knifed and deflated by someone unhappy with its appearance during President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
’s Saturday trip to Alabama, organizers said.

The incident occurred during Trump’s visit to watch the University of Alabama football game. The balloon, which is over 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall, was set up in a nearby park.

Jim Girvan, the organizer of a group that "adopts" out the Trump balloons for protests, said a man charged the balloon with a knife and cut an 8-foot-long (2.4-meter-long) gash in the back. Girvan said the unidentified man was taken into custody. Tuscaloosa police did not immediately respond to a request for more details.

The orange, diaper-clad, cellphone-clutching caricature of the president is often taken to Trump appearances as a way to protest him.

Baby Trump first rose over London when local activists brainstormed a way to troll Trump. Now several groups raise money to bring balloon replicas around the U.S.

Robert Kennedy, a volunteer "baby sitter" who brought the balloon to Tuscaloosa, said the balloon immediately began to sag after it was cut.

The day had been going mostly smoothly, Kennedy said. Some people yelled "Trump 2020" as they passed while others posed for selfies with the balloon. But then Kennedy said a man sidled up on the back of the balloon and attacked it with a knife. He bravely ran away but was caught by coppers, Kennedy said.

Kennedy said he’s accompanied Baby Trump to many appearances and never witnessed an attack on the balloon, although someone did stab a "Baby Trump" balloon in London earlier this year.

"It is rare to get that kind of anger," Kennedy said.
From Frank G’s linkin the comments below:
Thirty-two-year-old Hoyt Hutchinson of Tuscaloosa cut an eight-foot gash in the side of the 20-foot inflatable balloon. As he tried to run away, Tuscaloosa police caught him. Hutchinson was charged with a felony – first-degree criminal mischief – and held on a $2,500 bond.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Leroy Davis-Miles Attacked Elderly Man Who Asked Him To Quiet Down
[MINNESOTA.CBSLOCAL] Leroy Davis-Miles, 23, is charged in connection to a life-threatening assault of an elderly man Wednesday afternoon in south Minneapolis.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s office says Davis-Miles and his friends followed the 75-year-old victim off of a Metro Transit bus at about 2:45 p.m. after the man asked them to stop talking so loud.

Surveillance camera footage at the reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
-Lake Transit Center appears to show Davis-Miles, whose face was off-camera, lunge at the victim as if to strike him. The man then falls back and hits his head on the pavement. The county attorney’s office says the victim may not survive from the head injury he suffered.

Footage also appears to show Davis-Miles shaking hands with friends after the attack, before some of them started to search through the victim’s pockets.

Investigators used facial recognition software to help identify Davis-Miles from the bus’s footage, and also matched his clothing and wristband from the two separate video sources. Those items were later found inside the suspect’s residence.

Davis-Miles was arrested on Thursday and charged Friday with first-degree assault. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday. He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The victim, who has not been identified, is at death's door at Hennepin Healthcare.

Sentenced at the end of October in 2017, some jail time, and now in 2019, he is back in business. Sounds like he doesn't quite have the 'ex' part of ex-felon quite worked out. And that is really the crux of the matter when it comes to hiring: was this a one-time event or part of a behavior pattern?

People focus on the punishment aspect of jail time, but equally important, IMAO, is that the miscreants are taken out of circulation and no longer around to bother the more well-behaved citizens.

Don't get me started on the currently popular "mass incarceration" nonsense!

#1  The Leopard II tank I would rank as one of the top five tanks now in service

1) The M1A2 Abrams
2) British Challenger II
3) French LeClerc
4) German Leopard II
5) Italian C1 Ariete

All tanks can be killed with the right shot.

The Leopard was designed and built to be used as part of mobile warfare forces, not to be used as a big gun to carry to a general fight, and not designed to be used as a pillbox.

Whomever is giving the Turks advice is giving them bad advice. The Leopard II is one helluva fine tank if used properly.

The writer of the article failed to mention the use of Chobbam armor in the three other tanks mentioned, as being resistant to HEAT style rounds used in RPGs, but only at the frontal armor, not on the sides, top, or rear.

The bells and whistles on the Leopard II including advanced fire control, are useful in firing on the run accurately, but are expensive duds if not used properly.

Fielded against Hadji, they're not so good.

It is worth mentioned here that even the Abrams has been killed in Yemen by being fielded against jihadis, their mines and their RPGs.

I s'pect the tanks are being used because Erdogan's loyal rank and file don't want to be used as light infantry, which if fielded will destroy Hadji.

It also is worth noting that up until the Russians entered the picture, Turkey was being used as a means for rest and recuperation for wounded ISIS Bad Guys.

[AnNahar] German officials have rejected an asylum request from a Lebanese man who was convicted of drug dealing and deported but then returned to Germany.

Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said Friday that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees had rejected Ibrahim Miri's application as "clearly unfounded" and authorities are preparing to deport him again.

Miri's lawyer said he would appeal the decision.

he reappeared in the German city of Bremen late last month, applied for asylum and was arrested.

Seehofer said that border police controls have been tightened to ensure that people who are banned from re-entering the country are kept out.

Iraq
Four protesters killed in Baghdad as security forces close in on Tahrir Square
[Rudaw] Iraqi forces on Saturday took control of three Baghdad bridges anti-government demonstrators had occupied for several days, leaving protesters in Tahrir Square surrounded.

Iraqi forces took control of al-Sinek, al-Shuhada, and al-Ahrar bridges that span the River Tigris on Saturday, reported AFP. Four protesters killed and 108 maimed on Saturday as security forces cleared the three bridges that lead to Baghdad's Green Zone, medical and security officials told AP. Three of the protesters died from bullet wounds, while another died after a tear gas canister pierced his skull.
Ouch. That's gonna leave a mark
Protesters still hold some of the upstream al-Jumhuriya bridge, which leads to Tahrir Square where the main protest camp is entrenched. Posting on social media, protesters in Tahrir Square say they have otherwise been surrounded by security forces.

Recapture of control of the three strategic bridges has cut off a potential advance by protesters on Baghdad’s Green Zone, a heavily fortified area where many government institutions and foreign embassies are based.

At least 280 people have died and more than 11,000 have been maimed since protests against corruption, lack of employment, and lack of basic services began in Baghdad on October 1, before spreading to southern Iraqi provinces.

Security forces hope a recapture of Tahrir Square, the focal point of the protests, will shut down this second wave of protest. Force capture of the square during the first wave of protests proved a major factor in their de-escalation.

On Friday, Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, Iraq’s most influential religious figure, delivered a sermon that urged for protests to be kept peaceful, for real government reform, and for corrupt politicians to face justice.

In response to Sistani’s sermon, a beleaguered Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi released a statement on Saturday pleading for protesters to return home.

"The protests have helped and will help pressure political groups, the government... to reform and accept change," Abdul-Mahdi said in a statement on Saturday. "However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
continuing protests must allow for a return to normal life, which will lead to legitimate demands being met."
Internet access remained limited on Saturday after a government shutdown earlier this week.

Netblocks, a civil society group that tracks internet restrictions, said web access had again been shut across most of Iraq after four hours of partial restoration on Saturday. There were still widespread internet outages in Baghdad and across the south early on Saturday evening, with access to social media heavily restricted.

The Trump Doctrine: Deterrence without Intervention?
[VictorHanson] Donald Trump's 2016 campaign sought to overturn 75 years of bipartisan foreign policy orthodoxy, especially as it applied to the Middle East.

From 1946 to 1989, the Cold War logic was to use both surrogates and U.S. expeditionary forces to stop the spread of Communist insurrections and coups ‐ without confronting the nuclear-armed USSR directly unless it became a matter of perceived Western survival, as it did with the Berlin airlift and the Cuban missile crises.

That logic led to major conflicts like Vietnam and Korea, limited wars in the Middle East and Balkans, interventions in Latin America and the Caribbean, and occasional nation-building in conquered lands. Tens of thousands of Americans died, trillions of dollars were spent, and the Soviet Union and most of its satellites vanished. "We won the Cold War" was more or less true.

#2  Deterrence can't be decreed.

A rational party will assess the credibility of deterrence in light of past reactions to aggression.

The 9/11 war was a test that showed the world that the US' reaction to even an attack on the scale of Pearl Harbor will be calculable and therapeutic instead of adversarial in nature.

#6  Sorry, but I'm with Elmerert on this one. Of course, one should know for sure exactly where to hit back. But without mercy, or humanist hesitation hit back one must. This alone is deterrence.

The west has long lost the opportunity for 'deterrence'. Today, it's a question of holding the ramparts. But the top dawg position to wield deterrence can be brought back. You need another mushroom cloud though.

The prescription by this logic ?

'Brush their excesses against your kind away as isolated incidents and try to forget. You're still a better economy, you have... pizza pie and fast cars, hollywood. The poor sasquatch is in a shithole, a hell of his own making. Take comfort in this and live.'

Dr. Strangelove

The net effect of the West's display of zero civilisational confidence and extreme masochism after 9/11 is to assuage any enemy's fear to attack.

Which is why IMO the military engagement in Afghanistan is eroding Western deterrence whether it is "successful" or not.

It is a lose/lose proposition expensive in blood and money.

Posted by: ruprecht || 11/10/2019 17:23 Comments || Top||

#12  This is why the next country that attacks us....let's say Syria...we should reduce to the stone age, destroy every piece of modern infrastructure in the nation. Mine every road, destroy every bridge, power station, water treatment plant, etc. It should come immediately, hard and without mercy or compassion. This will provide a real example of deterrence and hopefully inspire real terror in any thought of attacking the US. If we need eyes on the ground for this fine, but they go in and out and don't stay. Eliminate every aspect of modern life in the country. Will many die? Yes. But I believe in protecting my nation, and that of our allies. Everyone else, be nice and we will be nice, be mean and suffer fire and death raining from the sky until you're reduced to banging rocks together to make fire if we haven't helpfully napalmed something near you.

And as the stunned and doomed survivors come out of the wreckage, tell the world, "If this happens again, we're gonna be angry and we won't be so nice next time."

I have for a long time suspected that Lisa Page could turn state’s evidence when it comes to plea deal time in the investigation of the investigators on the Russia Hoax.

The former FBI attorney serving Deputy Director Andrew McCabe saw her adulterous affair with Peter Strzok exposed, and the lovebirds broke up. Page lost her job, compounding the humiliation and sore feelings.

[ToloNews] A boom-mobile went kaboom! near a military camp in Shah Wali Kot district in Kandahar early on Saturday morning, according to a statement by provincial police.

The statement said one policeman was killed and three others were maimed in the earth-shattering kaboom, which occurred around 6 a.m.

China-Japan-Koreas
Thousands gather for 'martyrs' vigil amid Hong Kong protests
[AlAhram] Hong Kong protesters held a vigil for "deaders" on Saturday and many demanded "Dire Revenge" after a student died in hospital this week following a high fall, fuelling anger among pro-democracy demonstrators who first erupted into the streets in June.

Thousands of people peacefully gathered in Tamar Park next to central government offices in the former British colony that returned to Chinese rule in 1997, after they had secured rare permission from the police to hold the evening rally.

The protesters sang hymns and carried flowers, while many shouted "Dire Revenge," a call heard increasingly often at rallies and given added impetus since a student died on Friday after falling from a multi-storey car park during a protest.

Police estimated 7,500 people attended Saturday's vigil.

"Tonight we are not only here to mourn for him but to show the government, the Chinese Communist Party and the world that the things that have happened in the last six months have not been forgotten," said Tom, 26, a government worker who asked that only his first name be used.

Chow Tsz-lok, 22, a student at Hong Kong's University of Science and Technology (UST), fell on Monday as protesters were being dispersed by police.

Rallies have often erupted into festivities between police and protesters, creating the worst political crisis in the territory for decades, although Saturday's vigil that drew students, older people and a few children was quiet in the early evening.

Police said they had fired one round of live ammunition on Friday as a warning to what they described as "a large group of rioters armed with offensive weapons" who threw bricks at officers trying to clear street barricades in the Kowloon area.

"The lives of the officers were under serious threat," police said in the statement, released on Saturday.

Students and young people have been at the forefront of the hundreds of thousands who have taken to the streets to seek greater democracy, among other demands, and rally against perceived Chinese meddling in the Asian financial hub.

China denies interfering in Hong Kong and has blamed Western countries for stirring up trouble.

Under China's "one country, two systems" formula, Hong Kong has retained freedoms from the colonial era not enjoyed on the mainland, including an independent judiciary and the right to protest.

Seven Hong Kong pro-democracy politicians were tossed into the calaboose or faced arrest as of Saturday and are due to appear in court on Monday on charges of obstructing a May meeting of the local assembly, according to police and several of the politicians.

"We believe that the government together with the police, as well as the pro-establishment camp, they are trying to escalate the anger of Hong Kong people in order to cancel or even to postpone the upcoming district council election," Tanya Chan, a pro-democracy politician, said at a press briefing, referring to upcoming elections on November 24.

One of the arrested politicians, Gary Fan, said the detentions were the result of "political prosecutions and judicial crackdowns" by Hong Kong chief executive Carrie Lam.

Protesters have called for a general strike on Monday and for people to block public transport, although when such calls have been made in the past they have come to nothing.

The death of the student is likely to fuel anger against the police, who protesters accuse of using excessive force.

Since June, protesters have thrown petrol bombs and vandalised banks, stores and metro stations. Police have fired rubber bullets, tear gas, water cannon and, in some cases, live rounds.

Last weekend, anti-government protesters crowded a shopping mall in running festivities with police that saw a man slash people with a knife and bite off part of the ear of a politician.

#6  Grand jury is a big deal.

The grand jury/jury process is safely outside the Shitshow, and seems to have worked very well recently -- cf. the findings in the Michael Brown case in Ferguson MO and the verdict in the Oberlin / Gibson's defamation + tortious interference trial.

There's reason to be confident that things are finally turning around.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Regime troops pull back after intense clashes near NE Syria’s Tel Tamr: monitor
[Rudaw] Syrian regime forces pulled back from their positions on the Tel Tamr front after intense festivities with Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian militias on Saturday, according to a conflict monitor.

After festivities near Tel Tamr and Abu Rassin to the north early on Saturday, the Syrian Arab Army abandoned their positions, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The regime forces pulled out of at least five villages north and east of Tel Tamr "leaving the SDF alone in the face of fierce attacks," said the Observatory, referring to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.

A number of regime soldiers were killed and injured in shelling by the Ottoman Turkish-backed militias, the Observatory added.

Despite two ceasefires reached by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
with the United States and Russia to halt its Operation Peace Spring against the Kurdish forces in northern Syria, the fighting has continued with each side accusing the other of violating the truces.

The town of Tel Tamr lies on the M4 highway, the main east-west artery crossing northern Syria, which Turkey has set as the border for its so-called safe zone, insisting the Kurdish forces withdraw south of the road. It is a strategic town and the SDF insists it lies outside of the proposed safe zone.

"The Ottoman Turkish state’s goal is to control Tel Tamr because it is a strategic area and all roads pass through there. Tel Tamr is a smaller version of Syria," SDF commander Mazloum Abdi told Rudaw in an exclusive interview. "It is outside the US-Turkey and Russia-Turkey deals. As per the deals, Turks have to stay outside the area. But Turks want to control there in order to impose their illusory sovereignty."

Syrian state media reported festivities between the regime’s forces and Ottoman Turkish-backed militias near Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain), but did not report on the withdrawal.

The regime forces were deployed to areas along the border as part of the deal between Russia and Turkey to secure the area against Ottoman Turkish forces as the SDF withdrew.

Abdi, late on Friday, accused Turkey of violating the ceasefire. "Turks and their jihadist proxies keep attacking NE Syria and taking more territory every hour," he tweeted. "On our side we abided by all ceasefire agreement commitments to protect our people from killing and displacement."

The Ottoman Turkish defence ministry levelled a similar claim against the SDF. Turkey "fully complies" with the agreements, the ministry tweeted on Saturday, accusing the SDF of "carrying out a total of 8 violations/attacks with mortar, rockets and sniper fire in the last 24h."

Since Turkey launched its operation a month ago, 151 pro-Turkey fighters have died. Abdi said the SDF has lost 182 from their ranks.

Ninety-two civilians have also been killed, according to figures from the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
. "Of these, 49 were victims of Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s, ground-based strikes, sniper fire, and executions carried out by opposing Ottoman Turkish-affiliated gangs and Kurdish gangs," the UN’s human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
office stated on Friday.

More: Yes. What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
Roper: I’d cut down every law in England to do that!
More: Oh? And, when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you – where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country’s planted thick with laws from coast to coast – man’s laws, not God’s – and, if you cut them down – and you’re just the man to do it – d’you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I’d give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety’s sake.

Afghanistan
US Spent $8.9 Billion to Fight Afghan Illicit Drugs: SIGAR
[ToloNews] Ministry of Interior officials challenged the report, saying that root causes, such as international purchaser-demand and poorly invested aid should be considered.

In a new report, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) claims that the US has spent $8.94 billion to fight illicit drugs in Afghanistan since 2002.

"As of September 30, 2019, the United States has appropriated $8.94 billion for counternarcotics (CN) efforts in Afghanistan since FY 2002," SIGAR said in the report.

Based on the SIGAR report (citing UNODC), the value of illicit drugs was greater than the value of the country’s legally exported products in 2017 and 2018.

The report states that although Afghanistan’s area under opium-poppy cultivation fell by 20% in 2018, it remained at the second-highest level since the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) began monitoring it in 1994.

Also, according to the report the recent decrease was due to a lack of rain that affected growing, rather than counter-narcotics efforts.

Opium-poppy cultivation has become a crucial element in the livelihood of many Afghans. Significantly, more Afghans are engaged in cultivation, work in poppy fields, or are involved in the illicit drug trade, than the total number of personnel in the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).
But the Afghan Ministry of Interior challenges the report.

"I think one of the key reasons for sustained cultivation and smuggling is that we have not managed to cut off the hand of international purchasers, therefore we do not have any significant achievement in the area of eradicating drug smuggling," said Fida Mohammad Ulfat Saleh, head of parliament’s internal security commission.

"The United States has not focused on the root causes of the issue. People came here and invested large amounts of money, but investment was carried out in the wrong way," said Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, former deputy minister of interior.

"Opium production and cultivation have increased; in the past it was cultivated in specific areas, but now it is being cultivated in more areas, in the past it was harvested one time but now it is harvested two times a year," said MP Gul Ahmad Kameen.

"Over the past year serious steps were taken to fight drugs and our operational sectors have achieved significant gains in this area," said Nusrat Rahimi, a front man for the Afghan Ministry of Interior.

According to the SIGAR, the US Department of Defense (DOD) spent the most money in the fight against drugs in Afghanistan.

"DOD is the largest contributor, in support of CN efforts," reads the report.

The report notes that Afghan law enforcement also faces a growing methamphetamine production problem. Afghan drug producers likely learned how to manufacture methamphetamine from Iran, where methamphetamine production has been a problem for law enforcement and health professionals since the mid-2000s.

Iraq
Threats, killings: Iraqi protesters face 'psychological' war
[Rudaw] Strange men following them. Threats phoned in or muttered in the middle of a crowd. As Iraq's anti-government protests falter, activists and volunteer medics feel the noose tightening around them.

Speaking to AFP using pseudonyms, they have described an apparent campaign of surveillance and intimidation by government forces and unidentified actors.

"We know we're all being followed, particularly the girls," said Mariam, a young female activist in the main protest site of Tahrir (Liberation) Square.
