What a circus! Baraboo WI High School Students Appear to Perform Nazi Salute
[Breitbart] A Wisconsin school district is investigating an incident involving students from Baraboo High School, who appear to be giving the Nazi salute in a pre-prom photo shoot.

Scores of high school students appear to be giving the Nazi salute in a photo that was reportedly taken before attending their Junior Prom dance last spring.

The Twitter account @GoBaraboo posted the image, accompanied with the words: "We even got the black kid to throw it up #barabooproud."

The tweet, which has since been deleted, was captured via screenshot and re-shared on Twitter, causing the image to go viral.

Snipes: I Haven't Made a Decision on Whether I'll Resign After Recount
[Breitbart] During an interview on CNN on Tuesday, Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes (D) said she hasn’t made a decision on whether she’ll resign after the recount is concluded.

Snipes began by vowing that Broward County will meet the recount deadline. She also stated that the election ran "very smoothly," and had massive turnout. Snipes further defended her record on treating voters fairly and her record on transparency.

At the end of the interview, anchor Chris Cuomo asked, "[I]f the pressure stays on you, after this race, are you really thinking about resigning after the recount is over?"

Snipes answered, "As I told one of the reporters today, I’m thinking about many things. I have not made any decisions. Whatever I do, I will contemplate it very carefully and make what I think is the correct decision for me."

Victor Davis Hanson: The Present American Revolution
[NR] Destroying the Constitution and seeking state-mandated equality of result.

The revolution of 1776 sought to turn a colony of Great Britain into a new independent republic based on constitutionally protected freedom. It succeeded with the creation of the United States.

The failed revolution of 1861, by a slave-owning South declaring its independence from the Union, sought to bifurcate the country, More than 600,000 dead later, slavery was abolished, a Confederacy was in in ruins, and the South was forced back into the United States largely on the conditions and terms of the victorious North.

The 1960s saw efforts to create a new progressive nation by swarming democratic and republican institutions. The sheer force of a left-wing cultural revolution would supposedly transform a nation, in everything from jeans, long hair, and pot to rock music and sexual "liberation." It was eventually diffused by popular weariness with the extremism and violence of the radical revolutionaries, and the establishment’s agreements to end the Vietnam War, give 18-year-olds the right to vote, phase out the draft, expand civil rights to include reparatory action, legalize abortion, radicalize the university, and vastly increase the administrative state to wage a war on poverty, a war on pollution, and a war on inequality.

Our present revolution is more multifaceted. It is a war on the very Constitution of the United States that has not yet brought the Left its Holy Grail: a state-mandated equality of result overseen by an omnipotent and omniscient elite. The problem for today’s leftists is that they are not fighting Bourbon France, a reactionary Europe of 1848, or Czarist Russia, but an affluent, culturally uninhibited, and wildly free United States, where never in the history of civilization has a people attained such affluence and leisure.

Paradise, CA: Before and after fotos of the town's wildfire destruction
[BBC] The town of Paradise in Butte County in northern California has been engulfed by the deadliest wildfire in the state's history.

Thousands of the town's structures were completely destroyed in just a matter of hours as the blaze, named the Camp Fire, tore through the area.

Before and after images across the community show the extent of its destruction.

The wooded community, set close to the Sierra Nevada mountains, was particularly popular among retirees.

The Ridgewood Mobile Home Park was among the areas almost completely flattened by the fire.

The former rebel commander was identified as Yusef Awad; he was active in the Daraa province over the last six years.

According to reports, Yusef Awad was the former military commander of the Seif al-Sham Brigades.

Awad reportedly worked for the Syrian military intelligence until the Free Syrian Army

Deir Ezzor: Iraqi paramilitaries reinforce border and target ISIS, Kurds redeploy from Raqqa, US coalition evacuates ISIS turbans

Iraqi forces reinforce entire Deir Ezzor border region (video)

[AlMasdar] Iraq’s Hashd Al-Sha’abi forces (var. Popular Mobilization Units) have reinforced the entire Deir Ezzor border region after the so-called “Islamic State” (var. ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) recaptured several areas inside the province.

According to the official media wing of Hashd Al-Sha’abi, the Iraqi forces have reinforced the border region in a bid to protect the area from Daesh’s attempted expansion.

The Hashd Al-Sha’abi troops have already begun heavily targeting Daesh’s positions in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, as the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) attempt to regroup and retake the areas they lost.

US-backed SDF deploys Asayish forces to Deir Ezzor

[AlMasdar] The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have deployed their interior police units to the Deir Ezzor Governorate, pro-SDF activists reported on Tuesday.

According to the activists, the Asayish forces were redeployed from Raqqa city to the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

The alleged reason for deploying these police forces to eastern Deir Ezzor was due to the recent advances by the so-called “Islamic State” (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) near the Iraqi border.

Daesh was able to seize several towns from the Syrian Democratic Forces over the past two weeks, forcing the latter to retreat to the Iraqi border in order to avoid being overrun by the terrorist group.

US-led aircraft evacuate Daesh terrorists from eastern Syria: Report

terrorist group has airlifted to safe sanctuaries several members of the foreign-sponsored terror outfit from regions in Syria’s eastern provinces of Hasakah and Dayr al-Zawr.

Local sources, requesting anonymity, told Syria’s official news agency SANA on Tuesday that US-led military helicopters conducted an operation in the village of al-Suwayda in Hasakah near the border with Iraq, and transported a number of Takfiris to an unknown location.

Separately, US-led aircraft landed on the outskirts of al-Susah town in Dayr al-Zawr over the weekend, and took away three ISIS terrorists.

SANA, citing information received from local residents, reported on October 7 that American helicopters had evacuated ISIS commanders from al-Shaafah town in Abu Kamal district of Dayr al-Zawr to an undisclosed location.

Social Media Linked To Loneliness And Depression, New Study Finds
[Zero Hedge] Social media use has once again been linked to loneliness and depression. Research has been hinting at the connection for several years, but scientists from the University of Pennsylvania say that this new study is the most comprehensive and rigorous to date.

Social media is not all bad, as not much really is, but most people tend to have a difficult time using their social media accounts in moderation. That, according to the new study, can leave a person’s mental state a little lacking. There are even therapies and rehabilitation for those who have an addiction to social media.

Ever since sites like Facebook and Instagram became part of daily life, scientists have wondered whether or not they could contribute to mental health problems. In fact, research has hinted at a connection between social media use and depression for several years, according to This Insider. We have reached a point where people have a hard time tearing away from their social media accounts.

Published in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology, the most recent study linking poor mental health conditions to social media use has added even more evidence to back up the theory. The researchers from the University of Pennsylvania intentionally designed their experiment to be more comprehensive than previous studies on the topic. Rather than relying on short-term lab data or self-reported questionnaires, they recruited 143 undergraduate students to share screenshots of their Phone battery screens over a week to collect data on how much they were using social media apps including Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram.

According to an in-depth report on the study done by This Insider, subjects of the study were told either to maintain their typical social media behavior or limit it to 10 minutes per day. Alongside the screenshot data, the researchers also looked at how much the participants experienced fear of missing out, anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

Hama-Idlib axis adventures: Syrian army clashes with turbans as buffer zone agreement continues to collapse

Syrian Army heavily attacks southeast Idlib ahead of new offensive

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a powerful attack against a group of jihadist rebels that were positioned in the southeastern countryside of Idlib last night.

Using surface-to-surface missiles and artillery shells, the Syrian Arab Army repeatedly struck the jihadist defenses around the towns of Al-Taman’ah and Sukeek, inflicting heavy damage on the militant positions.

The Syrian Arab Army then expanded their assault to the northern countryside of Hama, where they reportedly attacked Jaish al-Izza’s trenches around the town of Al-Lataminah.

This latest attack by the Syrian Arab Army comes just days after the Tiger Forces announced that they were on high alert and preparing for a new operation against the jihadist rebels in southeast Idlib.

The Tiger Forces are expected to begin their offensive in the Abu Dhuhour area in the coming days, as the Idlib buffer zone agreement continues to collapse.

Fierce clashes breakout across Idlib buffer zone as Sochi Agreement falls apart

A series of fierce clashes have broken out across the Idlib buffer zone as both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and rebel forces continue to trade blows.

According to a military source in the government stronghold of Mhardeh, the Syrian Arab Army and rebel forces are currently clashing at least four different areas along the Idlib buffer zone.

The source added that the most intense clashes are taking place at the eastern part of the Idlib buffer zone.

Earlier today, the Syrian Arab Army managed to foil an infiltration attempt by the Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-‘Izza in the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate.

This failed infiltration attempt by the Islamist rebels resulted in a powerful response from the Syrian Arab Army troops that are currently positioned along the Idlib buffer zone.

In the next few weeks, the Syrian Arab Army is expected to kickoff a new offensive in southeast Idlib; this operation will focus on clearing the towns near the strategic Abu Dhuhour Military Airport.

Rebel forces attempt to sneak behind Syrian Army lines for new ambush

[AlMasdar] The Free Syrian Army (FSA) attempted to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses in the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate this morning.

Led by their Jaysh Al-‘Izza faction, the Free Syrian Army attempted to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses around the town of Al-Janabrah in northern Hama.

However, the Jaysh Al-‘Izza fighters were spotted moving towards the Syrian Army lines prior to the attack.

Scouts from the pro-government National Defense Forces (NDF) in Mhardeh notified the Syrian Arab Army and later prevented the militants from infiltrating their lines around Al-Janabrah.

According to a military source in Mhardeh, the Syrian Arab Army managed to kill and wound a number of rebel fighters during the fierce exchange.

Following the failed militant attack, the Syrian Arab Army unleashed a powerful assault along the Idlib-Hama axis, inflicting heavy damage on the rebel defenses.

The Syrian Army is still attacking the Idlib-Hama axis in a bid to weaken the militant resolve in this part of the country.

Syrian Army mass reinforces northern Syria in response to Turkey’s upcoming Euphrates operation
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has sent a large number of reinforcements to northern Syria this week in response to the upcoming Ottoman Turkish military operation east of the Euphrates, a source told al-Masdar News on Tuesday.

According to the source, the Syrian Arab Army has sent several military units to the northern and eastern countrysides of Aleppo and southern part of al-Raqqa.

In particular, the Syrian Army sent reinforcements to Deir Jamal near Tal Rifa’at in northern Aleppo, Tadif in eastern Aleppo, and al-Resafa in southern al-Raqqa.

The Syrian Arab Army reportedly made this decision to reinforce these fronts in response to the Ottoman Turkish military’s mass mobilization of rebel troops in the Euphrates River Valley region of Syria.

Furthermore, it appears that the Syrian Army has reinforced the al-Hasakah front over the last few days, as more soldiers were seen around the placid provincial capital and Qamishli City.

Earlier this month, the Ottoman Turkish regime announced that their forces were preparing to clear the ’terrorists’ from the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.

The ’terrorists’ referenced by the Ottoman Turkish regime are the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The aforementioned groups are currently embedded with the U.S. Coalition in northern Syria.

Syrian Army keeps advancing in southern Syria after fierce battle with Daesh
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued their advance in the al-Safa region of southern Syria this morning after a successful 24 hours against the so-called "Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. Led by their elite 4th Armored Division, the Syrian Arab Army continued where they left off on Monday, attacking ISIS’s positions at the northern and northwestern axes of the al-Safa region.

According to a military report from nearby Sweida city, the Syrian Arab Army managed to score a new advance at the northwestern axis of al-Safa after breaking through another well-fortified ISIS barrier inside this rocky region of southern Syria.

The report said that at least ten ISIS bad boyz were potted during the advance, while the Syrian Arab Army suffered six casualties of their own.

The Syrian Arab Army is now working to clear the remaining hills that are located in the northern part of this rocky region.

Russian naval fleet leaves Syrian waters for Atlantic
[AlMasdar] A group of the Russian Northern Fleet’s warships and support vessels led by the guided missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov has entered the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar after accomplishing its Mediterranean mission, the Fleet’s press office reported on Monday.

"The group of the Northern Fleet’s warships and support vessels started its passage through the Strait of Gibraltar after completing its business call at the Spanish port of Ceuta on the Moroccan coast of Africa in the Mediterranean Sea that lasted three days," the press office reported.

The missile cruiser is making its passage across the Atlantic Ocean together with the tanker Dubna and the rescue tug SB-406. During the passage through the Atlantic Ocean, the crew of the guided missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov will continue holding shipborne anti-submarine warfare and air defense drills, as well as measures to practice ship damage control. Shipborne helicopters will continue training flights of various complexity from the board of the missile cruiser.

The missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov was accomplishing missions in the Mediterranean Sea from August 11. Over this period, it took part in some joint measures with the warships of the Russian Navy’s permanent Mediterranean task force.

The missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov has been on a long-distance voyage since it left its main naval base of Severomorsk on July 5.

Over this time, it acted as a flagship of the Main Naval Parade in Kronshtadt, took part in inter-fleet drills of the Russian Navy in the Baltic and Mediterranean Seas and also made a business call at the capital of Algeria.

The warship has covered a distance of over 18,000 nautical miles.

Men afraid to mentor young female lawyers, solicitor chief claims
[Times] Senior male partners at law firms are refusing to mentor younger women because of fears that unjustified allegations will be made against them, the head of the profession claims.

There has been an unanticipated and unwanted backlash caused by the #MeToo movement, Christina Blacklaws, president of the Law Society, argued last week. Ms Blacklaws told a conference on gender diversity that senior men were reluctant to engage in formal mentoring schemes with younger female colleagues for fear they might leave themselves open to allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

She also said that some of the younger generation of male lawyers perceived there to be a mood of reverse discrimination in the legal profession as they found their female counterparts were benefiting from preferential treatment.

Facebook Unveils New Bigot Recognition Technology
[Babylon Bee] MENLO PARK, CA‐In a move to better filter out unapproved positions and people, Facebook unveiled its new Bigot Recognition Technology (BRT) at a press event Tuesday.

The new tech automatically detects people who are likely to be prejudiced, backward cretins and flags them for removal from the social network.

"We're looking for key indicators of bigotry, like being white, believing in God, and holding any political position to the right of Stalin," Mark Zuckerberg said at the event. "Our algorithm has been trained to flag and remove offensive people who aren't welcome on our platform: straight, cisgendered males, conservative people, and of course, Christians."

Facebook's new technology did have a major hiccup early on, when it flagged several Antifa pages, but Zuckerberg had his engineering team program an exception for bigots on the left. "If you're being intolerant for the sake of tolerance, then yes, you're exempt from our new bigot filters, obviously," he said.

Michigan airport stabber convicted in terrorism case
[DetroitNews] Amor Ftouhi, a Tunisian national charged with terrorism and stabbing a police officer during a terror attack last year at Bishop International Airport in Flint, was convicted of all charges Tuesday following a five-day jury trial in federal court.

Ftouhi, 51, faces up to life in prison for the June 2017 attack and will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Matthew F. Leitman on March 7 in Flint. He also was convicted of committing violence at an international airport and interfering with airport security.

Jurors deliberated for 75 minutes — including lunch.

"Ftouhi conducted research in Canada and entered our country with a plan to obtain a weapon and kill American police officers," said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Demers. "With today’s guilty verdict, he will be held accountable for his brutal knife attack on an airport police officer in Flint.”

Ftouhi was facing three charges, including committing an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries. He was on trial and accused of using a machete to stab Bishop Airport police Lt. Jeff Neville, who survived the attack.

A witness said Ftouhi walked up to the airport police officer, yelled “Allahu Akbar,” pulled out a knife, stabbed the officer in the neck and said, ‘You have killed people in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are all going to die,’ ” according to the federal criminal complaint against Ftouhi.

Ftouhi came to the United States after conducting online research into American gun laws and Michigan gun shows, prosecutors allege.

He tried unsuccessfully to buy a gun, bought a knife and used it to stab Neville, according to court records.

Ftouhi later told investigators he was a “soldier of Allah” and that he subscribed to the ideology of al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden.

Federal authorities say Ftouhi acted alone and that the suspect “wanted to identify” an international airport to carry out his attack but officials declined to say what made him pick Flint.

Ftouhi is believed by authorities to have traveled to the United States legally from Canada on June 16, 2017, through Lake Champlain, New York, and then entered Michigan on June 18, 2017.

He had lived in Canada for the previous decade.

Filmmaker Horowitz Embedded Himself In The Migrant Caravan
[Daily Caller] A filmmaker embedded himself in the migrant caravan heading to the southern border and discussed what he found on Tuesday night with Tucker Carlson.

Ami Horowitz went to the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca to film the caravan.

"What we do know is this thing cost millions and millions of dollars. The mainstream media, and there are so many layers [of] onions to peel back, it’s hard to know where to begin. One of the lies the fake news if you will, media is trying to propagate is the fact that all this weird organic thing and all the water and the food and medicine, all dropped from ... manna from heaven. It’s bologna. It’s all highly organized. It’s paid for by a number of organizations, we don’t know exactly where the money is coming from."

"Why haven’t other news organizations gotten to the bottom of this? You’re one man, you’re doing this independently. Why isn’t NBC News or ABC or PBS, why aren’t they on this?" Carlson asked.

yes in a sense it is money laundering and its legal unless a person in the front of the chain knows that the funds will be used in the back of the chain for a crime (in which case it would be racketeering)

IDF Strikes 160 Targets In Gaza Strip After Almost 500 Rockets Fired
[Jpost] The IDF attacked 160 targets in the Gaza Strip after more than 460 rockets were launched into the South in less than 24 hours, including a new type of rocket fired by Islamic Jihad into Ashkelon.

Some 100 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system, the military said. While the majority of others fell in open territory without causing damage or injuries, another 20 or so fell in Ashkelon, Sderot, and in several other Gaza border communities.

The security cabinet convened for six hours on Monday

Ceasefire Goes Into Effect In South Following Unprecedented Rocket Barrage
[Jpost] An unofficial ceasefire went into effect in the South on Tuesday evening following a barrage of some 460 rockets fired on Israel from the Gazoo Strip.

Whether the ceasefire will remain in place, one Israeli official said, is dependent on what happens on the ground.

The joint command of the Paleostinian armed factions announced the ceasefire on Tuesday afternoon, saying they would abide by the Egyptian-brokered deal "as long as the Zionist enemy does the same."

At about the same time, Israel’s security cabinet ‐ after meeting for over six hours in Tel Aviv ‐ issued a laconic and vague statement saying that the IDF would continue to act as necessary. The statement did not mention a ceasefire.
An interesting approach.
"The Cabinet was briefed by the IDF and security officials about the attacks and the extent of operations against the snuffies in Gazoo," the statement read. "The Security Cabinet instructed the IDF to continue its operations as necessary."

During the security cabinet meeting, the ministers heard briefings from top IDF, Mossad and Shin Bet officials who were all against widening the IDF response and rejected a full-fledged, prolonged military campaign. Their position was backed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who over the last few weeks, has made clear that he wants to avoid a war in Gazoo, because Israel does not want to reclaim the region, being as there is no party willing to assume responsibility for it.

Four ministers voiced opposition to a ceasefire, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu), Jerusalem Affairs Minister and Environmental Protection Minister Ze’ev Elkin (Likud) and two Bayit Yehudi ministers: Education Minister Naftali Bennett and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked.

The ceasefire angry protests in Sderot as a number of residents ‐ who have faced months of terror from Gazoo and wanted to see a more aggressive Israeli response ‐ blocked roads into the city. In Gazoo, on the other hand, there were a number of gatherings that took the form of victory rallies.

According to Israeli officials, Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, requested the ceasefire and messages to that effect came to Jerusalem from four different mediators: Egypt, the UN, Norway and Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
‐ both European countries are among the major donors to the Paleostinians.

But a representative of one of the terrorist groups in Gazoo denied that a ceasefire had been reached. "We haven’t been notified of any understandings concerning a ceasefire," he said. "We know that the Egyptians and the UN are trying to arrange a ceasefire, but we still haven’t received any word that Israel will stop its attacks. We’re only responding to the Israeli aggression. Once the aggression stops, there will be calm."

On Tuesday afternoon, the UN Security Council was scheduled to hold an emergency session on the situation in Gazoo. Israeli ambassador Danny Danon said before the meeting that Israel "will not accept a call for both sides to exercise restraint. There is one side that attacks and fires 400 missiles at civilian populations, and there is another side that protects its citizens." He added that "every member of the Security Council should ask themselves how they would respond after a barrage of missiles on their country."
The Times of Israel adds that the IDF declares return to normalcy in south:
As a reported ceasefire appears to take hold, Home Front Command says schools, businesses to reopen Wednesday in communities near Gazoo

The IDF Home Front Command on Tuesday night removed all restrictions on residents of southern Israel, the army said, declaring a "return to normality" as an uneasy reported ceasefire with the Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror group appeared to hold after two days of rocket fire.

Schools will be reopened on Wednesday, as will all businesses and government offices. Farmers will again be allowed to work in their fields.

In a statement to residents, the head of the Eshkol regional council Gadi Yarkoni said: "We’ve had a difficult two days. Two days which are a continuation of life in the shadow of terrorism and a pendulum swinging between emergency and normality for eight months straight."

He said he expected Israeli leaders and the army to "give us true peace and true calm" which would allow the communities to thrive.

"We cannot accept the continued hopeless reality of life under the threat of terrorism that includes fires, balloons and rockets."

The media center of the Yemeni army forces said violent confrontations erupted in Damt after the Houthis tried to raid the town of al-Haqab and the mountains that overlook Damt from the western side, adding that dozens of Houthi fighters were killed or injured and their bodies are still in the northern areas of al-Haqab and on the outskirts of the town of Khab, the western entrance of Damt.

Ten Houthi members were detained while trying to sneak towards army posts in the area, the media center added.

Amnesty calls on Iran to disclose fate of hundreds of detained Ahwazi Arabs
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Amnesia Amnesty International is calling on Iran to immediately disclose the fate and whereabouts of hundreds of members of the Ahwazi Arab ethnic minority being held incommunicado after reports suggested some have been executed in secret.

Unconfirmed reports on Sunday suggested that Iran may have executed more than 22 people, accusing them of being behind the ISIS-claimed attack on a military parade in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahwaz last October.

"If confirmed, the secret executions of these men would be not only a crime under international law but also an abhorrent violation of their right to life and a complete mockery of justice, even by the shocking standards of Iran’s judicial system," said Philip Luther, Amnesia Amnesty International’s Research and Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

"It is difficult to imagine that these individuals could have received a fair trial within merely a few weeks of their arrests, let alone had the opportunity to appeal death sentences," Luther added.

UN welcomes Iraq’s delivery of properties, national archives to Kuwait
[IraqiNews] The UN praised on Tuesday a positive step taken by Iraq to deliver part of Kuwaiti properties and national archives to the Kuwait authorities.

"This is an encouraging positive step taken by the Iraqi authorities in compliance with UN Security Council resolution 2107 (2013). It shows the determination of both countries to forge ahead with strengthening bilateral ties, putting behind them the bitter legacy of invasion and violence, and demonstrates the best of good neighbourly relations," Deputy Special Representative for Iraq of the United Nations

She added that despite strong support demonstrated by Kuwait, and commitment to their international and humanitarian obligation shown by Iraq, full normalization of relations will only take place once all outstanding issues have been resolved.

Preparations for the transfer of the Kuwaiti textbooks and other items have taken over a year. Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed al-Hakim has made exceptional efforts to ensure swift action on this important and complex issue with Kuwait since taking office a few weeks ago.

UH-OH: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's First Appearance In D.C. Is At A PROTEST Against Nancy Pelosi ‐ And Leftists AREN'T Happy
[DailyWire] Newly elected Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) made her first appearance in Washington, D.C., Tuesday, but the first item on her agenda has fellow Democrats seeing red.

Ocasio-Cortez joined a group of young activists called the "Sunrise Movement" in staging a sit-in protest outside the Capitol Hill office of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the House Minority Leader and, come January, the likely Speaker of the House ‐ and Ocasio-Cortez's new boss.

Ocasio-Cortez addressed the protesters, who were holding signs asking for a "Green New Deal" from Democrats in charge, and demanding "Green Jobs for All," shook hands, and gave high-fives to the 50 or so protesters who blocked the entrance to Pelosi's office.

The event marked Ocasio-Cortez's first visit to the soon-to-be Speaker's office, and leftists were pretty miffed that she introduced herself to her Democratic colleagues not by embracing inter-party collegiality, but by openly disagreeing with her party's long-time leadership.

Bush should be punished, not awarded medal: Analyst
[PRESSTV] Former US President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney should be exposed and jailed for their crimes, not awarded medals, says an American analyst.

Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush were awarded the Liberty Medal this week at the National Constitution Center.

The medal was awarded amid protests from veterans who blocked the entrance to the National Constitution Center.

Organizers from Veterans Against The War, a group of post-9/11 service members and veterans, said the protesters aimed to end “a foreign policy of permanent war and the use of military weapons, tactics and values in communities across the country."

US-based political analyst William Jones told Press TV in a phone interview on Monday that awarding the Liberty Medal to Bush was "completely ironic".

He added that the only thing that was more ironic would be if Cheney received the award.

Jones said people like Bush and Cheney, who is a senior neoconservative politician and served under four Republican presidents, were responsible for the planning and implementation of American military operations in the Middle East that continued to go on to this day.

If we look back on the Middle East in the past two decades, what we see is continual fighting and chaos and it all began with the Iraq war under George W Bush,” he said.

U.S. Targets Hizbullah 'Iraq Network' with New Sanctions
[AnNahar] The U.S. Treasury expanded its attack on Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
's financial network Tuesday, hitting key representatives of the Lebanese group in Iraq with sanctions.

The Treasury blacklisted Shibl Muhsin 'Ubayd al-Zaydi, Yusuf Hashim, Adnan Hussein Kawtharani, and Muhammad 'Abd-Al-Hadi Farhat under its Specially Designated Global Terrorists program, saying they moved money, acquired weapons and trained fighters in Iraq for the group.

Among the four, al-Zaydi was a key coordinator between Hizbullah, Iran's blacklisted Revolutionary Guards, and their supporters in Iraq, the Treasury said.

He is close to alleged Hizbullah financier Adham Tabaja, and coordinated smuggling oil from Iran into Syria.

He also sent Iraqi fighters to Syria allegedly on behalf of the Revolutionary Guard, the Treasury said.

The other three were also involved in collecting intelligence and moving money for Hizbullah in Iraq, it said.

"Hizbullah is a terrorist proxy for the Iranian regime that seeks to undermine Iraqi illusory sovereignty and destabilize the Middle East," said Sigal Mandelker, Treasury under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence.

"Treasury's concerted actions aim to deny Hizbullah's clandestine attempts to exploit Iraq to launder funds, procure weapons, train fighters, and collect intelligence as a proxy for Iran," Mandelker said in a statement.

Fifth Column
US colleges attracting fewer new students from abroad
[DAWN] The number of foreign students heading to United States (US) colleges and universities fell again last year, the second straight decline after more than a decade of growth, a new report finds.

Enrolment of new international students dropped by about seven per cent in fall 2017, according to an annual report released on Tuesday by the State Department and the Institute of International Education, a nonprofit research group based in New York.

The overall number of foreign students in the US still increased slightly, by 1.5 per cent, fuelled by growing numbers of students who stayed for temporary work after graduation. But the number of newly arriving students slid to about 271,000, the lowest levels since 2013.

The report's authors cited sharper competition from other countries including Australia and Canada, along with the rising cost of education in the US. They largely dismissed worries among some colleges that the White House's policies and rhetoric surrounding immigration could be driving students away.

"We're not hearing that students feel they can't come here. We're hearing that they have choices," Allan Goodman, president and CEO of the institute, said in a call with news hounds. "For the first time, we have real competition."

But some schools contacted by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named say the political climate in the US has made international students feel unwelcome and has contributed to declining numbers.
That’s what I’ve heard from foreigners exposed to American academic nonsense. They despise the thought-controlling political correctness so fashionable on campuses nowadays. It’s worse, I’ve heard, than back home.
State Department officials underscored that the US hosted nearly 1.1 million international students last year, more than any other country in the world.

[Law.com Daily Report] U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg ordered Georgia's new secretary of state to direct all Georgia counties with more than 100 provisional ballots, including 92 counties that have already certified their results, to "engage in a good faith review" of the eligibility of the voters who cast them. [AlAhram] A Jordanian court on Tuesday sentenced 10 people to prison terms of between three years and life in connection with a deadly 2016 attack claimed by the Islamic State

(IS) krazed killer group.

The shooting attack in Karak, site of one of the region's largest Crusader castles, killed seven coppers and two Jordanian civilians as well as a female Canadian tourist, and maimed 34 other people.

The defendants were charged in state security court, a military tribunal, with "terrorist acts", illegal possession of arms and producing explosives.

Two of them were handed life terms, while three were sentenced to 15 years in prison and five others to serve three years in jail. One defendant was acquitted.

Courts in Jordan, the target of several deadly attacks, regularly put on trial suspected jihadists.

A close ally of Washington, the desert kingdom is part of a US-led coalition fighting IS in neighbouring Syria and Iraq.

Neomi Rao nominated to Kavanaugh's old position
A conservative woman of colour. I can't wait to see how the demoncrats spin this to make her and Trump look bad.
[TheRightScoop] Trump has just announced his nominee to replace Brett Kavanaugh on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals:

New: President Trump announced he is nominating Neomi Rao, Administrator, Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, to be Brett Kavanaugh's replacement on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals (a very powerful position)
‐ Meridith McGraw (@meridithmcgraw) November 13, 2018

Rao, 45, serves currently as the administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, making her the "regulatory czar" of the Trump administration. From that position, she has been responsible for what Politico characterized as the "deconstruction of the administrative state." In her first year, Rao told the Free Beacon in an interview in May, OIRA has cut 22 regulations for every one it imposed, saving the taxpayers some $8 billion in fiscal year 2017 alone.

Prior to joining OIRA, Rao founded and was the first director of the Center for the Study of the Administrative State at George Mason University, as well as a law professor at the university's Antonin Scalia Law School. She also clerked for Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas, whom Politico referred to as her political mentor.
I like her already!

Trump says US aware of all North Korean nuclear work
[PRESSTV] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has denied that North Korea was moving ahead with its nuclear weapons program and said that the United States is aware of undeclared North Korean missile bases revealed by US researchers.

In a tweet, Trump on Tuesday called a report by a prominent Washington think tank "inaccurate"and "Fake News," and claimed his administration "fully know(s) about the sites being discussed, nothing new - and nothing happening out of the normal."

"I will be the first to let you know if things go bad!" Trump wrote on Twitter.

The Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) claimed in the report on Monday that it had identified at least 13 of an estimated 20 undeclared missile operating bases according to new commercial satellite images.

North Korea has been involved in rigorous diplomacy with South Korea. Trump has also claimed that Washington's diplomacy with Pyongyang has eliminated a purported threat posed by North Korea to the US national security.

In their June summit in Singapore, Trump and North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
agreed to work toward denuclearization. But that agreement, made in a written document, was broadly-worded.

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka Supreme Court restores sacked parliament
[DAWN] Sri Lanka's Supreme Court on Tuesday overruled President Maithripala Sirisena's dissolution of parliament and ordered a halt to preparations for snap elections next year.

The Indian Ocean island has been gripped by a constitutional crisis since Sirisena sacked prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on October 26 and replaced him with former strongman president Mahinda Rajapakse.

Wickremesinghe's party led the petitions against the dissolution and the three-judge bench, headed by the Chief Justice Nalin Perera, read out the decision to a packed court guarded by hundreds of heavily armed police and commandos.

The court suspended a proclamation issued by Sirisena on Friday sacking the legislature and calling for elections on January 5.

The ruling means parliament could go ahead with a vote to test if Sirisena's controversial nominee is able to summon a majority in the 225-member assembly and force Wickremesinghe from office.

The court also ordered the independent Elections Commission to halt preparations for the January 5 vote.

Warplanes target main entrance to Yemen’s port city of Hudaydah
[PRESSTV] The military coalition led by the Saudi regime has carried out Arclight airstrikes targeting the main entrance to Yemen’s western port city of Hudaydah, some five months after coalition forces, backed by armed militia loyal to the former Yemeni government, launched a full-scale offensive to seize the vital port.

The main gate "was the target of airstrikes... but the port is operating normally," said the port’s deputy director Yahya Sharafeddin on Tuesday, adding that at least two airstrikes had hit the entrance, leaving three guards maimed.

Other reports said that a single-storey guardroom had taken a direct hit from the strikes, which killed at least one soldier.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sharafeddin said that despite the air raids, the vital docks were operating normally. Some 80 percent of Yemen's commercial imports and nearly all UN supervised humanitarian aid pass through these docks.

Lebanese army forces detain man suspected of providing intelligence to Israel
[PRESSTV] The Lebanese Army's intelligence branch has placed in durance vile
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
a man suspected of spying for Israel's Mossad spy agency and collaboration with Israeli authorities as he was attempting to cross the southern border into occupied Paleostinian territories.

The army announced in a statement released late on Monday that the man, identified as Mohammad Hussein Fakih, was captured in the village of Meiss Ej Jabal, situated some 78 kilometers (49 miles) south of the capital Beirut.

The statement added that Fakih had formerly collaborated with Israeli official. It was not immediately known whether the man was of Lebanese origin.

On September 25, Leb's Military Tribunal sentenced three Lebanese nationals to three years in prison with hard labor on charges of espionage on Hezbollah resistance movement for Mossad.

The tribunal, chaired by Brigadier General Hussein Abdallah, issued the verdicts against Hasan Salemeh, Karam Idris and Kamal Hasan on Tuesday after they were found guilty of providing the Israeli regime with intelligence about Hezbollah’s military arsenal and operations, and with photos of several strategic locations in Leb.

The court also stripped them of their rights as Lebanese citizens.

The three were arrested last October and charged with communicating information to Israel. They reportedly possessed Israeli wireless communication devices at the time of their arrest.

Two other defendants, identified as Lebanese nationals H.K. and N.Sh., were separately questioned on Tuesday after they allegedly contacted Israelis through Facebook.

Authorities announce arrests in slaying of 8 family members in Piketon, Ohio
[Cleveland.com] Authorities say a family of four has been arrested in the slayings of eight members of another family in rural Ohio two years ago.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office announced the arrest Tuesday of four members of a family who lived near the scenes of the killing.

No motive was announced.

Those arrested are: 47-year-old George "Billy" Wagner III; his wife, 48-year-old Angela Wagner; and their sons, 27-year-old George Wagner and 26-year-old Edward Wagner. The Wagners had since moved to Alaska.

A message was left with a lawyer who has been representing the Wagners in the investigation. An attorney has said previously the family cooperated with investigators.

The arrests are the culmination of a massive investigative effort since seven adults and 16-year-old boy were found dead in 2016 at four homes near Piketon.

Israel envoy sounds rocket siren as UN debates Gaza violence
[IsraelTimes] Security Council meeting ends with no action, Paleostinians blame US for blocking motion to condemn Israel

Israel’s ambassador to the UN Danny Danon sounded a rocket warning siren ahead of the UN Security Council debate on Gazoo, which ended with no agreement on how to address the crisis.

"Every time Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", fires a rocket, children at school, adults at work, families across Israel hear this," he said, before playing a recording of the siren.

Danon said Security Council members that want to blame Israel for the latest fighting with the Hamas terror group in Gazoo are "morally bankrupt" and rejected those who call for restraint by both sides.

Danon told news hounds at UN headquarters in New York that "there is no such thing as both sides."

"There is Hamas that attacks and fires over 460 missiles at civilians and there is Israel that protects its people."

Danon said ahead of closed Security Council consultations late Tuesday that the council must condemn only Hamas "for its aggressive assault on civilians."

Asked about an undercover Israeli military operation that sparked the Hamas attacks and Israeli bombing of Gazoo, Danon said: "We take action to protect our people and we will continue to do that."

The meeting ended with no agreement on a path forward, with the Paleostinian blaming the US for blocking any condemnation of Israel.

Kuwait, which represents Arab countries at the council, and Bolivia requested the meeting following the worst flareup in Gazoo since the 2014 war between Hamas and Israel.

Addressing news hounds after the 50-minute meeting, Paleostinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour said the council was "paralyzed" and had "failed to shoulder its responsibility" to take action to end the violence.

"There is one country that is not allowing discussion at the council," Mansour told news hounds, in a reference to the United States, which has steadfastly supported Israel under US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
There was no statement from the council on the crisis. Such statements are agreed by consensus by all 15 council members.
A swing and a miss, as usual.
Kuwait’s Ambassador Mansour al-Otaibi said the majority of council members were of the view that the top UN body "should do something" and some suggested a visit to the region, but no decision was taken.

US designates son of Hezbollah leader as 'global terrorist'
[AlAhram] The US State Department declared Jawad Nasrallah, the son of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, as a "global terrorist" Tuesday as it steps up pressure on the Lebanese militia group.

That was Hezbollah's Unit 133, responsible for setting up terror cells in Israel.
The State Department also maintained its 21 year old "Foreign Terrorist Organization" designation of Hezbollah, as the group battles prime minister-designate Saad al-Hariri for a powerful role in the new Lebanese government.

Melania Trump publicly calls for White House aide's firing
[AP] WASHINGTON (AP) ‐ In an extraordinary move, Melania Trump called publicly Tuesday for the deputy national security adviser to be dismissed.

After reports circulated Tuesday that President Donald Trump had decided to remove Mira Ricardel from her post at the National Security Council, Stephanie Grisham, the first lady’s spokeswoman, released a statement that said: "It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that she no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House."

Shortly before the statement was issued, Ricardel was among a group of administration officials and other individuals who stood behind President Trump at a White House ceremony celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that the first lady’s staff and Ricardel had clashed during Mrs. Trump’s visit to Africa in October over such things as seating on the airplane and requests to use the council’s resources.

A White House official told The Associated Press that Ricardel wanted to travel to Africa with the first lady but was denied seating on the airplane because there was no room for her and several others who initially expected to make the trip. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss White House personnel matters, said Ricardel then threatened not to send any NSC staff.

Ricardel also is known to have clashed with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis over Pentagon political appointee choices since early in his tenure. And Pentagon officials have said privately they believe Ricardel had a hand in spreading rumors this year about Mattis falling from favor with the White House and perhaps departing.

Asked by a reporter today about Mrs. Trump’s office saying Ricardel no longer deserves to work in the White House, Mattis said, "I don’t comment on other people’s staffing issues."

Afghanistan
Thousands of Afghans flee fighting in Hazara districts
[DAWN] Thousands of Afghans have fled to Ghazni city to escape fighting in two Hazara

-dominated districts, with some describing the violence on Tuesday as the worst they had seen in the 17-year conflict.

The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
have been battling members of Afghanistan's special forces and ethnic Hazara militia in the previously safe districts of Jaghori and Malistan in the southeastern province of Ghazni for nearly a week.

Hundreds of people, including civilians, militia, commandos and bad boys, have been killed, according to figures provided by locals and government officials.

Many families have fled to the bustling provincial capital, some leaving their homes in the middle of the night and travelling on side roads to avoid Taliban checkpoints.

"We were scared, other people were fleeing so we decided to leave too," said a woman called Zainab, who drove with her five children for 12 hours on dirt roads from her home in Jaghori district to Ghazni city.

"We have never seen this kind of war and my children and I were scared," she told AFP, adding that her husband had stayed behind to protect their property.

Around 2,000 families displaced by the fighting are living in mosques and hostels in Ghazni city, said Abdul Haleem Noori, director of the Afghan Red Islamic Thingy Society in Ghazni.

Kuwait: OPEC expects surplus of 1 mln barrels per day by 2019
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Haitham al-Ghais, OPEC’s governor for Kuwait, revealed the organization’s expectations for the production of the countries outside the alliance next year and predicted that 60 percent would come from the United States.

In his interview with Al Arabiya, al- Ghais said that the production of the countries outside OPEC is expected to grow by 2.2 million barrels a day, 60 percent of which will come from America, the biggest percentage of which would come from shale oil. It would not only be limited to the US but also other countries like as Canada, Brazil, Kazakhstan and other countries, according to him.

Al-Ghais, speaking to Al Arabiya from the sidelines of the ADIPEC exhibition in Abu Dhabi, said he believes that there many may factors that could increase oil demand ‐ including trade war ‐ while some countries affected by high prices and the exchange rate of their currencies against the dollar.

He highlighted that though it is difficult to determine the size of the surplus expected in 2019; the preliminary indications indicate a surplus between half a million and a million barrels a day next year.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
he asserted that OPEC and its partners "are assured of the continuous increase of demand", indicating that the major increase of oil demand would be from the emerging economies such as China, India, Vietnam and other Asian countries.

On the other hand, the Kuwaiti denied any difference in opinion between Russia and OPEC. On the contrary, he believes that they agree "this was proven to the market during the past two years and was implemented into an agreement to reduce production".

Sweden ready to host Yemen peace talks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Sweden is ready to host peace talks as soon as possible to try and negotiate an end to the war in Yemen, Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said Tuesday.

"We are preparing ourselves to, when the parties are ready, welcome them in Sweden," she told Swedish news agency TT.

"We are also relying on (UN envoy) Martin Griffiths for this and hope it will happen," she added.

"It is high time for peace talks."

Wallstrom said she hoped the negotiations could begin this month.

At the end of October, Griffiths said he hoped the warring parties could meet in Sweden in November, after talks in Geneva in September collapsed following the absence of representatives of the Houthi

Britain
Thugs wield machete in broad daylight in Birmingham
[PRESSTV] Images of a horrifying knife crime in Britannia have surfaced online showing thugs wielding machete attacking a young man in the second largest city of Birmingham.

Tabloid newspapers published the video on their websites on Tuesday, showing violent scenes of an attack in broad daylight in Birmingham where a group of attackers chased, kicked and slashed a young victim with machetes in front of passer-bys.

The newspapers ran headlines like "lawless Britannia" or "bloodbath Britannia" to highlight the attack which comes amid a surge in violent knife crimes and other methods of brutal attack in Britannia’s large cities.

The video showed at least seven young men, most of them covering their heads and faces, pouncing a young man beside a road while the traffic drove past.

Two long machetes and a hammer could be seen used by the thugs in the footage which many believe is related to an attack in Birmingham’s Perry Barr area that took place around noon a day earlier.

The West Midlands Police have yet to comment on the brutal incident which has shocked many across the United Kingdom.

The police force posted a tweet on Monday saying they had placed in durance vile
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
two men on suspicion of possessing offensive weapons. Two hammers and a machete had also been recovered from the suspects, the police said, although it was not clear whether the arrests were related to the gang attack.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Countdown to mullahs’ belligerence begins
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] It seems that the United States is serious this time in putting pressure on the Iranian regime in a way that leaves the latter with three options: change its hostile behavior towards its neighbors, comply with US conditions, or collapse.

According to the US, the present round of sanctions is the toughest in its history against rogue states, as they put it. Here, I want to clarify a point regarding the eight states exempted from boycotting the Iranian oil trade. This exemption is not permanent but time bound. It means that it would end within a few weeks, as emphasized by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo. The other thing regarding these exemptions is that the financial return of these sales will be deposited in a bank account outside Iran to ensure that it is spent in the form of goods and services within Iran, so that it is not spent on Iranian militias abroad.

The question here is: Will the sanctions have an immediate effect on Iran’s economic conditions? I do not think so. I do not believe that the Americans expect that either. It seems that the Iranian regime had prepared itself for these sanctions long ago, by stockpiling oil outside its territory. This would enable it to absorb the impact of the crisis for some time. However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
this resistance would definitely weaken over time, in a way that would make the sanctions fulfill its goals.

DANGEROUS REPERCUSSIONS
The US, as its politicians mentioned, does not seek to completely overthrow the whole regime; but rather to correct its behavior and curb its ambitions, whether by preventing it from owning nuclear power or ballistic missiles which are an integral part of the these nuclear capabilities. At the same time, the US wants to cut off its holy warrior arms which it uses to threaten its neighbors and fund terrorism with. As for overthrowing the whole regime, I do not believe that the Americans seek that. Overthrowing the regime like what happened with Saddam’s regime in Iraq would create a similar situation to what happened in Iraq, but it would be the Shiite version. This would have dangerous repercussions on the region’s stability and security.

As I said in previous articles, the first people who are going to benefit from clipping the wings of the mullahs’ regime are the Iranians themselves. These strict sanctions would convince them that having this expansionist mentality of the Middle Ages and the neglect of human beings almost completely is impossible in today’s world, and that religious countries with an expansionist mindset cannot be accepted in the modern age. Sooner or later this would make the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist come back to its senses, oblige it to protect the state from failing and forget about exporting the revolution. This latter task was one of Khomeini’s most important wills before he died. It’s also possible for the situation to aggravate as the mullahs may insist on resistance and steadfastness. This is however hardly possible.

The retreat of the mullahs’ regime from its ambitions and its resorting to rationality as well as peaceful coexistence with its neighbors is what the entire world, including the neighboring countries which this regime has harmed for over four decades, hopes for.

‘Impeccable Iranian intelligence services will foil Saudi murder plots’

militancy ‐ which is sponsored chiefly by Saudi Arabia.

Alexander Azadegan, a political analyst, told Press TV on Tuesday that the liquidation plot "is not going to happen to him, because the Iranian intelligence services are impeccable."

The new revelation by The New York Times added to the embarrassment the Saudi royal family is facing in the wake of another perceived enemy, Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered by Saudi Arabian agents at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Ethiopia arrests ex-head of army firm in crackdown on security services
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Æthiopia locked away
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
the former head of a military-run industrial conglomerate on Tuesday and flew him in handcuffs to the capital, state media reported, a day after authorities announced investigations targeting senior members of the security forces.

Kinfe Dagnew, a Brigadier General in Æthiopia’s army and former chief executive of METEC, was taken into custody close to the border with Sudan and Eritrea
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
, state-run broadcaster EBC said.

State media broadcast footage showing Kinfe surrounded by a ring of soldiers and later images of him in handcuffs arriving by military helicopter in the capital later on Tuesday.

A documentary that aired Tuesday evening on state-owned Æthiopian Television (ETV) gave details of widespread alleged embezzlement by METEC.

It said the firm, which was awarded a 24 billion Æthiopian birr ($863 million) contract by the state utility in 2011 to carry out electromechanical works at the Grand Renaissance Dam, had received 16.7 billion birr of the total amount so far but that only 23 percent was completed, at a cost of 9.46 billion.

"Only 266 million birr was found in its bank account. The rest of the money had vanished," it said.

It also alleged that the firm had taken over two aging ships that belonged to the state maritime agency but that they were used to transport contraband that it said were very likely to have included arms to Somalia and Iran - countries under United Nations

arms embargoes.

The documentary claimed properties such as buildings were also purchased illegally by the company, with no records made available.

A day earlier the attorney general announced the arrests of other METEC executives in a corruption investigation and the detention of security officials accused of abusing prisoners - moves that were welcomed by rights groups and a prominent opposition politician.

Iranian migrants steal French boat and sail to Britain, another boat sinks off Turkey
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A group of Iranian migrants colonists stole a fishing boat from a French port and sailed across the Channel to Britannia, slipping past border officials to complete a journey attempted by thousands each year.

Seventeen migrants colonists, including three children, reached England early Tuesday aboard the fishing boat stolen from a French port near Calais, British officials confirmed Tuesday.

Britannia's Home Office, the interior ministry, said the group was intercepted at Dover harbor.

"Fourteen men and three minors, all of whom presented themselves as Iranian, were found on board," a front man said, adding that their asylum cases would be reviewed and that the minors had been referred to social services.

French prosecutor Pascal Marconville, who is leading the investigation into the theft, said the engine had been hotwired (started without a key) and that the migrants colonists managed to "escape the watch" of port authorities in making their getaway.

Every year, thousands of migrants colonists from Africa, the Middle East and Asia, many of them minors, attempt to reach Britannia by stowing away on trucks crossing to England, mainly through the French port of Calais.

For many the attempt ends in failure, with French police routinely detaining migrants colonists caught trying to climb onto trucks.

On Monday evening, French officials became suspicious after noticing a boat that was taking a "bizarre" route across the Channel, said Ingrid Parrot, spokeswoman for maritime authorities in northern La Belle France.

Officials tipped off British authorities and contacted the owner of the 12-metre (40-foot) boat, who said it had been stolen from the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer, about 35 kilometers (21 miles) west of Calais.

Parrot called the crossing "unprecedented", noting that migrants colonists had previously used much smaller boats to try reach their journey's end, with little success.

So far this year French maritime officials have launched 23 operations either to rescue migrants colonists at sea or to stop groups about to set sail.

Ten Missing as Migrant Boat Sinks off Turkey

Ten people were missing on Monday after a boat carrying illegal migrants sank off Turkey's western coast, the Turkish coastguard said.

Two migrants swam to shore not far from the coastal town of Dikili in Izmir province after their boat sank, the coastguard said in a statement, adding that a search was underway for those missing.

Officials did not give details of the migrants' nationalities. Turkey hosts more than three million Syrian refugees and up to 300,000 Iraqis.

Separately, Turkish security forces rounded up 73 illegal migrants including Iraqis, Iranians, Afghans and Pakistanis in the northwestern Turkish province of Kirklareli, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Monday.

The migrants were trying to reach Europe, it added. The Kirklareli region is on the border with Bulgaria.

Turkey has been a main transition route for migrants trying to get to Europe, especially since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011.

The number of migrants coming to Europe has declined since the influx hit a peak in 2015 when more than a million people landed in Greece from Turkey, mainly via boats.

Turkey and the European Union reached a deal in 2016 to stem the flow of migrants, with Ankara agreeing to take back migrants landing on Greek islands in exchange for incentives including financial aid.

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s so-called 'America First' agenda as a "mistake," saying his administration’s failure to honor international commitments under such an approach has only created a global backlash against Washington.

Zarif made the remarks in an interview with London-based al-Araby al-Jadeed media outlet that was published on Tuesday.

He was asked about a recent tweet by Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, on French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent call for the creation of a "real European army" to protect itself against the US.

Haass had said "America First has brought us the revival of the spirit of De Gaulle. More evidence of a post-American world."

Zarif stressed that he agreed with Haass regarding the fallout of Trump’s 'America First' approach.

Amazon confirms New York City and Northern Virginia for new headquarters
[ABC] Amazon has announced that it will divide it’s much-anticipated headquarters between Virginia and New York.
They wanted to be close to their share holders.
The announcement ends a search that spanned more than a year and sparked an intense competition between North American cities to be chosen as the site of the new headquarters. The company received 238 proposals, and cities provided incentives such as grants and tax breaks to win the company’s favor. The Virginia headquarters will be located in National Landing in Arlington, and the New York City headquarters will be located in the Long Island City neighborhood in Queens.
Two of the most congested metro areas on the planet about to absorb another 50,000 workers. Obviously no politics involved here.
Amazon also announced a new Center of Excellence for its Operations business in Nashville, Tennessee.

"We are excited to build new headquarters in New York City and Northern Virginia," said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon. "These two locations will allow us to attract world-class talent that will help us to continue inventing for customers for years to come. The team did a great job selecting these sites, and we look forward to becoming an even bigger part of these communities."

Of course, the traffic on I95 is already a nightmare. Luckily I won't have to deal with it after I move.
