Hillary Clinton: Stacey Abrams would've already won ‘if she'd had a fair election'
[The Hill] Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams would already have won Georgia's governor race if there had been a fair election.

“If she had a fair election, she already would have won," the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee said while speaking at the University of Texas's LBJ School of Public Affairs, according to The Statesman.

Clinton on Tuesday night received the inaugural In the Arena Award from the university. She spoke about a variety of topics after accepting the honor, including Georgia's governor's race, which remains unsettled.

The race has gained national attention, as Abrams vies to become the first African-American woman to be elected governor in U.S. history. Her opponent, former Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp (R), leads Abrams in an official tally of the votes.

Though Kemp's campaign has remained confident that the final vote tally will force a recount.

In Austin, Hillary Clinton honored for public service
[Statesman] Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has played as consequential a role in American politics as anyone in her lifetime, received the inaugural In the Arena Award from the LBJ School of Public Affairs on Tuesday.

The award’s name is drawn from a speech President Teddy Roosevelt delivered at the Sorbonne in Paris in 1910, the year after he left the presidency, in which he said: "The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena...; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls, who neither know victory nor defeat."

In presenting the award, Angela Evans, dean of the LBJ School, said that Roosevelt "perfectly describes" Clinton’s grit and courage in a lifetime of public involvement as an attorney, advocate for children, first lady of Arkansas and of the United States, New York senator, secretary of state, and two-time candidate for the Democratic nomination for president. In 2016, Clinton failed while "daring greatly" as the first woman to be the nominee of a major party for president, winning the popular vote but losing the electoral vote and the White House to Donald Trump.

"If you want to be blameless, stay on the sidelines," said Evans, who said that for decades and to this day, Clinton perseveres over enormous "vitriol."

Clinton took the stage at the Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium to receive the award to whoops, hollers and applause from the audience, which was studded with longtime supporters who rose to cheer her.

Seated opposite one another on stage in matching red chairs, Evans interviewed Clinton, who recalled that she entered the metaphorical arena in the 1960s.

"It really was an amazing time in American history," Clinton said, noting the presence of Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson’s daughters Luci and Lynda at the event. "It seemed we were all pulling in the same direction to that common ground, that higher ground."

That decade was marred by political assassinations and the Vietnam War, she said, "but people were alive, and they were committed and involved in all the issues of the day."

Pelosi Thanks Al Sharpton for ‘Saving America'
[Free Beacon] House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) on Wednesday praised MSNBC host Rev. Al Sharpton and thanked him for "saving America."

Pelosi spoke at the National Action Network's (NAN) legislative and policy conference, where she laid out the Democratic Party's agenda before introducing Sharpton, who founded the non-profit civil rights organization in 1991. The organization was focused on turning out voters during the midterms.

"We are going to be visionary. We are going to be unifying. We are going to be healing. We are going to be transparent in how we do this. We are going to be respectful of other views, but we are going to try to find our common ground where we can," Pelosi said. "We have a responsibility to do that, but where we can't, stand our ground like a rock. That's what Thomas Jefferson advised us to do."

She went on to tell the conference attendees about how she has received so many letters and phone calls from people thanking her for "saving America." She then said that she would like to give the thanks to the attendees before she introduced Sharpton and thanked him for "saving America," in a clip first flagged by Grabien.

Sharpton, a progressive firebrand and outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, hosts MSNBC's "PoliticsNation" on Saturdays and Sundays and has been floated as a potential Democratic contender in the 2020 race to try to defeat Trump. Regarding a presidential run, Sharpton in August told Buzzfeed that he never "rule[s]anything out."

POTUS and Political Warfare aka Higgins Memo
[Unconstrained Analytics] The Trump administration is suffering under withering information campaigns designed to first undermine, then delegitimize and ultimately remove the President.

Possibly confusing these attacks with an elevated interplay of otherwise normal D.C. partisan infighting and adversarial media relations, the White House response to these campaigns reflects a political advocacy mindset that it is intensely reactive, severely under-inclusive and dangerously inadequate to the threat.

If action is not taken to re-scope and respond to these hostile campaigns very soon, the administration risks implosion and subsequent early departure from the White House.

Delingpole: ‘We Really Muffed' It – Scientist Admits Error in Hyped Global Warming Study
The co-author of a much-hyped, peer-reviewed, alarmist paper claiming to have found a huge, unexpected build-up of global warming heat in the oceans has admitted: "We really muffed" the calculations.
Muffed? Or projected what you wanted to see?

According to the paper by Laure Resplandy et al, published this month in the prestigious journal Nature, a lot of the missing heat from global warming ‐ 60 percent more than hitherto thought - has been absorbed by the oceans.

Naturally, this shocking discovery caused much excitement across mainstream media and was widely reported by environmental correspondents as proof that the global warming crisis was more serious than evah.

However, their exultant doom-mongering has been shortlived. An independent analyst, Nic Lewis, examined the paper and quickly spotted it was based on flawed math.

As the Global Warming Policy Forum reported:

Independent climate scientist Nicholas Lewis has uncovered a major error in a recent scientific paper that was given blanket coverage in the English-speaking media. The paper, written by a team led by Princeton oceanographer Laure Resplandy, claimed that the oceans have been warming faster than previously thought. It was announced, in news outlets including the BBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post and Scientific American that this meant that the Earth may warm even faster than currently estimated.

However Lewis, who has authored several peer-reviewed papers on the question of climate sensitivity and has worked with some of the world’s leading climate scientists, has found that the warming trend in the Resplandy paper differs from that calculated from the underlying data included with the paper.

"If you calculate the trend correctly, the warming rate is not worse than we thought ‐ it’s very much in line with previous estimates," says Lewis.

In fact, says Lewis, some of the other claims made in the paper and reported by the media, are wrong too.

"Their claims about the effect of faster ocean warming on estimates of climate sensitivity (and hence future global warming) and carbon budgets are just incorrect anyway, but that’s a moot point now we know that about their calculation error".

#11  I must say the U.S. system puzzles me, because in Germany voting is really a straightforward thing. Of course every German has a registered main domicile.

One month before the election, I get a letter from the city telling me where I'm registered to vote. It's a nearby place, I bring the notification, my ID, get handed the ballot, go to a cabin, vote, go back, put my vote in the box under supervision. That's that. Has never taken me more than 10 minutes.

I cannot understand why Democrats are against a state issued photo ID which includes your citizenship. I mean, you can't go to a post office to retrieve a package without showing proper ID.

I understand that Americans do not want a national ID, but it would solve many problems. Start with putting citizenship (or lawful residence status) on every driving license.

#14  In California in 2016 nobody checked my ID when I voted. Anyone could have said they were me and voted for me. With only 50% of people bothering to vote the odds are good nobody would find out. If anyone found a double-ballot they'd have to determine which was real and which wasn't, a process I've never heard happening in California. They've made it very easy to steal elections if they wanted to.

So if another person votes "for you", he/she must know that your name is on the list, claim he/she's you. What if you turned up 10 minutes later?

The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan Military in the North in a statement said festivities broke out between the security forces and Talibs in Kalik village of Qaisar district, leaving at least 18 turbans dead, including one of their local commanders Mullah Khal Mirza.

The statement further added that the security forces also received air support and and as a result at least 14 turbans also sustained injuries.

According 209th Shaheen Corps, at least five vehicles and fifteen various types of weapons of the turbans were also destroyed during the festivities and airstrikes.

Faryab is among the relatively volatile provinces in North of Afghanistan where the Talibs and other groups are actively operating in some of its districts and often carry out terrorist related activities.

The statement further added that two senior Taliban leaders, Saifuddin also famous as Sadat and Qari Bahramuddin, exchanged fire with each other in Nimdan village located in the outskirts of the scenic provincial capital of Sari Pul province.

The statement further added Saifuddin was killed during the clash while Qari Bahramuddin who is leading a group of 50 Lions of Islam sustained critical injuries during the exchange of fire.

The anti-government armed bad boy groups including Taliban have not commented regarding the incident so far.

Sari Pul has been among the relatively calm provinces in North of Afghanistan but the security situation in some of its districts has started to deteriorated during the recent years.

The Pak government officials have not commented in this regard so far.

Reports regarding the release of Abdul Samad Sani emerge at a time when efforts are underway to revive Afghan peace talks.

The statement further added that the militants were targeted in Kamal Khel area of the district, leaving eight of them dead.

The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban militants have not commented regarding the airstrike so far.

Ghazni is among the relatively volatile provinces in Southeastern parts of the country where the Taliban militants are actively operating in some of its districts.

Earlier reports indicated that other militants belonging to foreign groups including ISIS loyalists are also active in some of its districts.

Army Chief arrives in Malistan as armed forces prepare for a large-scale offensive

[KhaamaPress] Tue 2:19pm - The Afghan National Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mohammad Sharif Yaftali arrived in Malistan district of Ghazni province as the armed forces are preparing for a large-scale offensive to suppress the militants.

Gen. Yaftali said the operations against the militants would likely kick off today.

In the meantime, the 203rd Thunder Corps of the Afghan Military in the Southeast in a statement said the armed forces have launched an offensive (Thunder-4) in some districts of Ghazni province.

The statement further added that the operations are being led by 203rd Thunder Corps Commander Gen. Dadan Lawang.

According to 203rd Thunder Corps, the Commando Forces and other armed troops have also been deployed to Jaghoori and Malistan districts for the launch of a large-scale operation.

This comes as heavy clashes are underway in Malistan and Jaghoori districts of Ghazni province since the last few days.

15 militants killed, laser-equipped rocket launcher seized in Moqor clash

Hashem Abedi is suspected of involvement and is wanted by Manchester police on charges of murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to cause kabooms.

In an interview with the BBC on the sidelines of an international conference in Italia, Sarraj said: "I think from here to the end of this year we will finish all the legal procedures in Libya.

"We are fully cooperating because we understand the suffering of the families of the victims of this terrorist attack.

"According to the general prosecutor we can extradite. After we complete the legal process in Libya it is only a matter of time."

When Britannia first made the extradition request in November 2017, the gang holding him refused it.

The Manchester Arena bombing was Britannia's worst terror attack in more than a decade.

Salman Abedi was born in Manchester in 1994, to parents who had been granted asylum after fleeing Moamer Qadaffy's regime.

Geagea has been accused of leading a raid in 1978 on the home of Frangieh’s father, Tony Franjieh, a rival Maronite Christian chieftain, who was killed with his wife, daughter and others. Geagea has said he was maimed before reaching Frangieh’s house, and did not take part himself.

According to figures released by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, some 51,000 foreign laborers have been brought to the Kurdistan Region over the past 11 years through 163 licensed companies ‐ 26,000 laborers for projects and 25,000 for house care.

In the southern governorate of Dhale, dozens of Houthis were killed and injured and ten were detained, including field military leaders, in violent confrontations with the Yemeni forces.

The Yemeni army, with support from the Arab Coalition, has been fighting Houthis in the city of Damt for days, and was successful in liberating big parts of it.

In Hodeidah, Yemeni sources confirmed the death and injury of dozens of Houthis on different battle fronts, whereas the Yemeni army continued to advance towards the northern entrance of the city.

The advances come with great Houthi losses and the fleeing of dozens of militias from the front lines to the internal neighborhoods of the city.

Steel workers continue to strike in Ahwaz against Iran regime
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Workers of the Ahwaz Steel Factory continued their ongoing strike for the sixth consecutive day on Wednesday chanting slogans against the Iranian regime.

The workers took the streets in Ahwaz and protested in front of the governorate and rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud like "We will not leave from here, until we receive our rights" and cried out that "no nation has seen this much injustice".

Another slogan chanted on Wednesday focused on the regime saying that Tehran "chant for Imam Hossein, but pride themselves in thieving," in references of using the third Shia Imam for the government’s own profit.

Several reports suggested that the protesters continued their march and blocked the streets leading up to the governorate.

In videos of the protest posted online showed a large group of the Ahwaz steel factory workers gathered outside the governor’s office in the southern province.

Zebdi stated in a presser, that the organization had analyzed the sugar percentage in the coffee and the legal labeling on it for 12 coffee brands, produced nationally. It was analyzed by 3 different Algerian labs.

According to the results; the incompliance was in the sugar percentage and in failure to mention the added substances and their percentages on the cover.

The analysis revealed that only 5 out of 12 brands contain an accepted and reasonable sugar percentage.

Zebdi clarified that the added substances might contain Acrylamide, which is a substance considered dangerous by the World Health Organization.

He also explained that the burning of sugar, which generates Acrylamide might cause cancer when consumed at a certain rate, highlighting that this substance is also found in potato chips and particularly in the grilled meat.

Mother, two teenage daughters found dead in Lahore's Chan Shah graveyard
[DAWN] A woman and her two daughters were found dead in Chan Shah graveyard in the Shah Bagh area of Lahore on Wednesday while a third girl, found in an injured state, was shifted to a hospital, said the City Superintendent of Police (SP) Maaz Zafar.

SP Zafar said that the two girls killed were between the ages of 13 and 15 years.

A statement from the injured girl, also a teenager, will be recorded once she is stable, the SP said.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the police.

According to SP Zafar, the station house officer (SHO) and the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) were at the site of the incident and an investigation was underway.

The police official told DawnNewsTV that the woman's husband ‐ who had married six times ‐ was killed 15 days ago in Sheikhupura. He added that two of his former wives had confessed to his murder.

Based on initial investigation, the police said that the mother and her daughters had been killed over a family dispute.

Israeli defense minister announces resignation protesting Gaza truce

A law enforcement source says on Tuesday, Avenatti "kicked her out of the apartment" and that's when the alleged domestic violence occurred. We're told she went back to the apartment on Wednesday to retrieve her belongings and called police to stand by in case things got heated.

We're told Avenatti is currently in custody.

Pakistan likely to escape US censure due to Aasia’s release
[DAWN] Pakistain may escape a new designation ‐ a serious violator of religious freedom ‐ thanks to the Supreme Court’s decision to release Aasia Bibi, according to diplomatic sources.

In January, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) recommended that Pakistain be designated as a "country of concern" because of its alleged "serious violations of religious freedom".

Although it’s a long-standing USCIRF demand, the US State Department has never so designated Pakistain, but it does highlight the commission’s findings in its annual reports on religious freedom.

In December last year, the State Department named Pakistain as the first, and only, country on its "Special Watch List", a new category created in 2016.

The report for this year complained that religious minorities in Pakistain continued to face attacks from krazed killer groups and society on the lam. It also noted that "abusive enforcement of the country’s strict blasphemy laws result in the "suppression of rights for non-Moslems, Shia and Ahmedis".

Tenzin Dorjee, the USCIRF chief, said: "The case of Asia Bibi illustrates the extent to which blasphemy laws can be exploited to target minority communities."

A man who doused himself with wine and tried to self-immolate on a train and waved a phone showing images of armed combatants is being held by French police on a potential terrorism charge.

A French official said Wednesday the man was tackled by a soldier and a police officer, both off duty. The high-speed TGV train was traveling Tuesday from Lille in the north to Montpellier in the south.

The official said the man, who identified himself as Syrian, grew angry when a conductor asked him for a ticket, which he didn’t have. The official wasn’t authorized to discuss the detention publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The newspaper Le Progres, which first reported the arrest, said the wine was a rose.

The man was held on a possible charge of condoning terrorism, having allegedly brandished his phone with photos and video of combatants with weapons, the official said.

Tuesday marked the third anniversary of gun and kabooms that killed 130 people in the Bataclan concert hall and other sites in Gay Paree in 2015.

Dozens of migrants refuse to leave container ship in Libya
[AlAhram] Dozens of migrants colonists have barricaded themselves in a container ship in the Libyan port city of Misrata for the past five days, after being picked up at sea, and refuse to disembark, saying Libya is too dangerous for them.

Loaded with cars, the ship Nivin was already bound for Misrata when it picked up 93 migrants colonists in a foundering raft in the Mediterranean Sea late on Friday and continued toward its destination. Two of the migrants colonists agreed to leave with the Libyan coasties, but the others refused, saying Libya was deadly for migrants colonists and they wanted to go to Europe.

They have been in the Misrata port ever since, with the captain and crew taking refuge on the upper decks.

Omar’s comment came in response to a website called Moslem Girl, which pressed her on her appearance during the campaign at a Minneapolis area synagogue.

During that candidates’ forum, she had said that BDS "stops the dialogue" and is "counteractive" to achieving a two-state outcome.

Like many other Democrats, she noted her opposition to anti-BDS legislation but framed it as a free-speech issue.

"Ilhan believes in and supports the BDS movement, and has fought to make sure people’s right to support it isn’t criminalized," her campaign told Moslem Girl after the election. "She does, however, have reservations on the effectiveness of the movement in accomplishing a lasting solution."

TC Jewfolk, a local Jewish news website which originally reported her ostensible rejection of BDS, pressed her on the issue after the Moslem Girl statement in text messages which it posted on Twitter.

Omar insisted there was no contradiction. "I believe and support the BDS movement and have fought to make sure people’s right to support it isn’t criminalized," she said. "I do, however, have reservations on [the] effectiveness of the movement in accomplishing a lasting solution. Which is what I believe I said at the forum."

The TC Jewfolk news hound pressed her further, asking Omar why she didn’t simply answer "yes or no" when asked about the issue at the synagogue forum for candidates.

"It was a bigger issue and she didn’t ask for a ’yes or no’ answer," Omar replied, referring to the person who posed the question. Omar said her position during the campaign was not "politically expedient."

Omar had earned notoriety in the pro-Israel community for a 2012 tweets posted in which she said that Israel had "hypnotized the world" to ignore its "evil doings." Defending that tweet earlier this year, she said on the same platform that calling attention to the "Israeli Apartheid regime" was not anti-Semitic.

Scores of IS militants remain in Mindanao
[Guardian] The threat of Islamic State is mounting again in the Philippines, with estimates there could be between 40 to 100 foreign fighters, and a growing momentum among local pro-Islamic State militant groups.

Prof Rommel Banlaoi, chairman of the Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence and Terrorism Research, said that he had seen records of up to 100 foreign fighters on the island – a combination of old and new arrivals since the Marawi siege last year – who want to re-establish the east Asia wilayah crushed in the fighting. Banlaoi said the fighters in Mindanao had mainly traveled from neighbouring Indonesia and Malaysia but also Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Middle East.

A high-ranking intelligence officer gave figures of that closely matched Banlaoi’s records. “There are about 40 foreign fighters remaining in the country, but 40 others are in the watchlist,” said the officer.

The presence of foreign fighters is known to embolden rebels and there are increasing concerns of a renewed bid to declare a caliphate in Mindanao. The threat is highlighted by an apparent suicide bombing by a foreign fighter from Morocco in July that killed 11 people. It was claimed by Isis as a “martyrdom” operation.

“Foreign fighters are in the Philippines because they consider the country, particularly Mindanao, as a safe haven, alternative home base and a new land of jihad,” explained Banlaoi, who said he had seen a lot of chatter on the east Asia wilayah on IS social media recently.

“They train and learn from local fighters. They provide funds. They provide a global support network,” he added.

In Malaysia, Ahmad el-Muhammady, who consults with the authorities on de-radicalization of Islamist militants, said the concern over foreign fighters in Mindanao was growing and “the Malaysian intelligence community is closely monitoring the situation”.

As well as often having more experience with conflict, foreign fighters “play a very important role in bridging the parochial divides between Filipino groups” said Zachary Abuza, south-east Asia analyst at the National War College.

“Look at Marawi [and] what happens with Philippine-based IS groups work together. And often foreign fighters try to cajole local militants to escalate the violence,” he said.

Abuza calculated there were up to 40 foreign fighters in Mindanao and he emphasized the serious threat they posed. He said, "Many seek the relative sanctuary of the southern Philippines. There they can regroup, train and plot attacks. With IS’s declaration of an east Asia wilayah, the southern Philippines becomes more important because there is enough ungoverned or very poorly governed space.”

“There are IS cells in Malaysia and Singapore but they don’t control any territory. You can’t be province of the caliphate without territory,” he said.

Video shows group climbing border fence

[Fox5] SAN DIEGO -- People on the Mexican side of the border could be seen climbing the fence near Friendship Park Tuesday afternoon after part of the Central American migrant caravan arrived in Tijuana.

Several people scaled the fence and sat on top of it. A few jumped or crawled to openings in the fence onto U.S. soil but quickly ran back as Border Patrol agents approached.

Several border agents were seen patrolling the area in trucks, 4-wheelers, a helicopter and on horses.

The U.S. Border Patrol sent a news release stating it believes some of the people at the fence are from the caravan that's been traveling through Mexico from Honduras.

#4  Anyone that knowingly hires anybody below minimum wage should face jail time. Anyone that hires an illegal over a citizen for the same job will face massive fines.

Any illegal that commits a crime in the US will go to jail in the US and Mexico will be charged the costs (if they don't pay a tax on remittances go up). Create a single Social Security Number to be used for illegals so that the money gets into the system properly.

Do those things and you will slow or stop illegal immigration and/or divide the left upon the Union vs Illegals fault line or both. You own't have to defend the border.

Calif. Man Pleads Guilty in Fatal Swatting Case, Faces 20+ Years in Prison
[KrebsOnSecurity] A California man who pleaded guilty Tuesday to causing dozens of swatting attacks — including a deadly incident in Kansas last year — now faces 20 or more years in prison.

Tyler Barriss, 25, went by the nickname SWAuTistic on Twitter, and reveled in perpetrating “swatting” attacks. These dangerous hoaxes involve making false claims to emergency responders about phony hostage situations or bomb threats, with the intention of prompting a heavily-armed police response to the location of the claimed incident.

On Dec. 28, 2017, Barriss placed a call from California to police in Wichita, Kansas, claiming that he was a local resident who’d just shot his father and was holding other family members hostage.

When Wichita officers responded to the address given by the caller — 1033 W. McCormick — they shot and killed 28-year-old Andrew Finch, a father of two who had done nothing wrong.

Barriss admitted setting that fatal swatting attack in motion after getting in the middle of a dispute between two Call of Duty gamers, 18-year-old Casey Viner from Ohio and Shane Gaskill, 20, from Wichita.

Viner allegedly asked Barriss to swat Gaskill. But when Gaskill noticed Barriss’ Twitter account (@swattingaccount) suddenly following him online, he tried to deflect the attack. Barriss says Gaskill allegedly dared him to go ahead with the swat, but then gave Barriss an old home address, which was then being occupied by Finch’s family.

Viner and Gaskill are awaiting trial. A more detailed account of their alleged dispute is told here.

According to the Justice Department, Barriss pleaded guilty to making hoax bomb threats in phone calls to the headquarters of the FBI and the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C. He also made bomb threat and swatting calls from Los Angeles to emergency numbers in Ohio, New Hampshire, Nevada, Massachusetts, Illinois, Utah, Virginia, Texas, Arizona, Missouri, Maine, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, New York, Michigan, Florida and Canada.

U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said Barriss faces 20 years or more in prison. Barriss is due to be sentenced Jan. 30, 2019.

Many readers following this story over the past year have commented here that the officer who fired the shot which killed Andrew Finch should also face prosecution. However, the district attorney for the county that encompasses Wichita decided in April that the officer will not face charges, and will not be named because he isn’t being charged with a crime.

#1  Lucky he pled. Consider: If he'd gone to trial, the prosecution would have had to assert in the sternest and most certain tones that the guy had every reason to believe the cops were a bunch of gun-happy cowboys who loved an opportunity to shoot those known to be innocent.
Otherwise, there'd be no connection between the motivation for the call and the actual death.
Cops would love that, not.
The defense would have to prove the guy thought the cops were a bunch of Mr. Rogers who wouldn't hurt a flea and that this result was the furthest thing from his mind.
I'd pay money to watch that.

A Jacob here or Jacobs! They want to obstruct the Saudi prowess in combating the Brotherhood, the most dangerous international "network" in the world and they’re doing so via the approach of: "Enough you people, enough talk about the Brotherhood. We have exaggerated this a bit or too much!"

Reality is opposite of that as we ‐ and we’ve talked about this problem here for years ‐ have plenty to say about the Brotherhood’s threat and this is good; however, a few work on establishing real and permanent awareness regarding the Brotherhood’s culture and ideology, which means the prevalence of how many over how to.

ONGOING WAR
Anyway, the Saudi Crown Prince, the architect of the Saudi vision and the leader of the war against extremism, said at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Riyadh in his first statement following the vehement media campaign against Saudi Arabia after the Khashoggi problem that the war against extremism is ongoing. His words were clear. Of course, the Brotherhood is the first womb of extremism, via deceit at times, soft talk and gibberish about freedoms at other times or via frank and rough remarks when the time is suitable.

The time was actually appropriate during the wakefulness of the secret Brotherhood dream during the season of chaos or the Brotherhood Spring that lasted from December 2010 until the dream ended in 2014.

In that same year, Yemeni Brotherhood official Abdul Majeed al-Zindani told crowds in Sanaa that he sees the morning of the Islamic caliphate rising from every place in the Islamic world, adding that Mursi’s accession to power was a sign of the caliphate.

CONFRONTING THE BROTHERHOOD
Truth is, Saudi Arabia’s journey in confronting the Brotherhood is not something of this current era but of the era of King Abdullah as on March 7, 2014, the Saudi commission issued its famous list that was based on the former royal order of late King Abdullah and categorized certain parties as terrorist, and the Moslem Brüderbund was at the forefront.

Is it possible to say: "Enough talk and work on confronting unemployment, corruption and pollution! That’s enough, you’ve annoyed us!?" It’s the same thing as the same determination and same continuity must be adopted when it comes to protecting people from the Brotherhood’s ideological and psychological malaise.

A final word: Confronting the Brotherhood, in terms of its culture, politics and upbringing, is not an occasional matter or a tactical political move but it’s the "philosophy" of a permanent and new life.

Abizaid is a fluent Arabic speaker of Lebanese Christian descent who headed US Central Command -- which covers the Middle East -- during the Iraq war from shortly after the US invasion in 2003 through 2007.

The 67-year-old wrote his master's thesis at Harvard University about Saudi Arabia, studying how the kingdom makes its decisions on defense spending, in a paper that won acclaim in academic circles.

A Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, native, Abizaid graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point and later won a scholarship to study in Jordan, where he honed his Arabic, which he did not speak as a child.

Trump has been slow in filling key posts amid his promises to shake up Washington.

Abizaid requires confirmation from the Senate, which would appear likely as the retired four-star general has long enjoyed respect in Washington.

Shortly after taking over as CENTCOM commander, Abizaid told news hounds that US forces were facing a "classical guerrilla-type campaign" from remnants of Saddam Hussein's Baath Party.

His choice of words contradicted his bosses, who initially tried to portray the Iraq invasion as a quick victory, but then defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld did not move to replace him amid admiration for Abizaid's skills.

'No remorse': US judge sends teen shooter to juvenile detention
[DAWN] A 13-year-old boy has shown no remorse for shooting his teacher and a classmate at his Indianapolis-area school, and he will remain the responsibility of the state juvenile detention system until he is 18, an Indiana judge ruled on Wednesday.

Hamilton County Circuit Court Judge Paul Felix rejected a request from the boy's attorneys that he be sent to a private treatment facility for shooting seventh-grade science teacher Jason Seaman and 13-year-old Ella Whistler during the May 25 attack at Noblesville West Middle School.

The boy admitted responsibility for the attack and apologised during a hearing last week. The boy's admission in juvenile court is similar to a guilty plea in adult court.

"I did not think it was sincere," Felix said during the teen's punishment hearing on Wednesday. "No remorse was shown last week."

The boy planned the attack on his own and had meant for it to be deadly, Felix said.

"You went into the school intending to kill not just two people but many people," Felix told the boy. "You wanted devastation, an inescapable tragedy for the ages."

Felix ordered that the boy be sent to the Indiana Department of Correction for placement in a state juvenile detention facility for rehabilitation. He will be placed on probation after turning 18.

The News Agency that Dare Not be Named isn't using the boy's name because he is charged as a juvenile.

Defence lawyer Christopher Eskew said he worries that the youth won't receive the counseling he needs in the state juvenile system, arguing that most of its programmes are for alcohol, drug or sexual abuse.

"There's very little actual emotional treatment there," Eskew said.

Prosecutors said during last week's hearing that the boy found the keys to a basement safe in his family's home, unlocked it and removed two handguns and more than 100 rounds of ammunition that he brought to the school in a backpack.

Prosecutors said the boy "is obsessed with violence being committed upon innocent people".

Investigators said that the day before the shooting, he filmed a video in his family's basement in which he showed two handguns and said: "Tomorrow's Friday, you know what that means. I have to take other people's lives before I take my own."

Whistler survived after being shot seven times. The teacher, Seaman, was shot three times. He testified last week that the boy returned to his classroom from a bathroom break and opened fire.

Seaman, a former football player at Southern Illinois University, said he threw a miniature basketball at the boy as he fired shots, and then tackled the youth and disarmed him.

Investigators testified that the boy's online history was filled with searches for school shootings, including the day before the shooting, when he allegedly searched for "What was the largest mass shooting in America." He also searched for a "blueprint" of the Noblesville school.

Woman, minor daughter found dead hanging from a tree in Khanewal
[DAWN] A woman and her minor daughter were found hanging from a tree within the vicinity of the former's parent's house in a remote area of Khanewal district on Wednesday.

According to police, the 30-year-old woman and her 4-year-old daughter were strangled to death before their bodies were hung from the tree.

Homicide Sub Inspector Falak Sheer told DawnNewsTV that marks of fingers around necks of both the victims indicate that it was a murder and that the killer or killers hanged their bodies from the tree to portray the crime as a murder-and-suicide case.

The bodies have been moved to the tehsil headquarter hospital for an appointment with Dr. Quincy, he said, adding that a case will be filed after the post-mortem examination report is prepared.

PKK has gone quiet in Duhok after US bounties: local official
[Rudaw] A local official in Duhok province believes the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)’s activities have been affected by recent US bounties on the heads of three senior commanders of the party.

The US last week announced bounties collectively totaling up to $12 million for information leading to the capture of three senior PKK leaders: Murat Karayilan, Cemil Bayik, and Duran Kalkan.

"This has made the PKK show up less often," Sarbast Akrayi, head of Kani Masi sub-district, told Rudaw English on Wednesday.

With the PKK less active, Ottoman Turkish bombardments have decreased, Akrayi explained.

Turkey frequently carries out Arclight airstrikes against alleged PKK positions in the Kurdistan Region. The country’s Ministry of Defence reported on Tuesday they have "neutralized" 57 "terrorists" in aerial operations in northern Iraq in the last four days. Ottoman Turkish armed forces use the term "neutralized" to refer to those killed, maimed, or otherwise removed from the battlefield.

The Amedi district has always been a hotspot for conflict, both the decades-long PKK-Turkey conflict and Kurdish uprisings against the former Iraqi regime.

"Therefore, the people are used to such things," Akrayi said of the reaction of local residents to the bombardments.

The most devastating period of the PKK-Turkey conflict in this area was between 2015 and 2017 when 4,000 acres of land were desolated, 26 villages were abandoned, and 18 houses were destroyed, Akrayi explained.

The people were left with an estimated 2.3 billion dinars ($1.9 million) in material losses, the official said.

There are 76 villages in the sub-district with a population of 10,000.

The PKK have not completely halted activities, however. Guerrilla forces attacked Ottoman Turkish positions in Erbil province’s Sidakan sub-district early on Wednesday, which was followed by Ottoman Turkish bombardment on the region, according to local mayor Ihsan Chalabi.

"Turkey bombarded Mount Del and borders of Khalifan, Siran, Shelkan, and Blasanan villages at 9:00 am, Wednesday, lasting for 45 minutes," he told Rudaw, adding that the attack was in response to a PKK strike half an hour earlier.

There were no reports of casualties or material losses.

Police nab crooks looting victims of California wildfires
[NYPOST] Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, police nabbed several people suspected of looting in wildfire-ravaged areas.

They were both booked into Butte County Jail on drug charges.

on Monday, an employee with the power company PG&E told deputies patrolling an evacuated area in Butte Creek Canyon that he saw two men who looked like they were looting.

Deputies found Jason Burns, 41, and Michael Salisbury, 48, hiding in the bedroom of a home with a stash of meth, heroin, a .45-caliber handgun stolen from a Paradise home and loaded magazines.

In the garage, deputies also uncovered an AR-15 rifle, several chainsaws and tools that they suspected were stolen.

Both men are being held on $89,000 bail on a slew of charges.

Two men dressed in jackets similar to the ones worn by US Forest Service workers had already been nabbed for looting in Paradise on Sunday.

[DAWN] The body of Superintendent of Police (SP) Tahir Khan Dawar ─ who was kidnapped from Islamabad last month and found dead yesterday in Afghanistan ─ is expected to be handed over to Pakistain authorities tomorrow, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) information minister Shaukat Ali Yousafzai said in a statement on Wednesday.

Police and civil administration have been waiting at the Torkham border since Tuesday night to receive the slain SP's body.

The body was earlier expected to be handed over to Pak authorities today. Yousafzai said a KP Police delegation had waited at the Torkham border crossing all day for SP Tahir's body but were unsuccessful. He did not mention the reason of the delay.

Miram Sadaqat, the spokesperson of the Afghan Red Islamic Thingy, told DawnNewsTV that the organization's volunteers will transfer the body to the Torkham crossing as soon as Afghan authorities hand it over.

He said that Afghan police and hospital administration were "collecting information" about the body.

SP Tahir, a police officer who had survived two suicide kabooms in Bannu, was kidnapped from Islamabad's G-10/4 area on October 26. A body believed to be his was found in Afghanistan's Nangarhar

A Gazoo man was rubbed out by Israeli troops Wednesday after approaching the security fence on the Israeli border, according to the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,-controlled Gazoo health ministry, as tensions persisted after a ceasefire Tuesday ended some of the heaviest fighting in years.

The Israeli military confirmed that soldiers opened fire as a group of Paleostinian men were spotted walking toward the border fence in the northern Gazoo Strip, near the Israeli community of Kibbutz Zikim. According to media reports, the suspect was shot as he continued approaching the fence despite warning shots being fired.

An army spokesperson said the soldiers "operated in accordance with the rules of engagement."

The Paleostinian man was identified by the health ministry as 20-year-old Nawaf Ahmad al-Attar, a fisherman.

Paleostinian media outlets reported that al-Attar had been killed at sea ‐ something the IDF denied.

Earlier in the day, Israeli troops shot and arrested a Paleostinian man who threw a number of grenades at the security fence in the northern Gazoo Strip, the army said. The grenades failed to explode.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, when he was arrested, the suspect was found to be in possession of a pair of boltcutters and a knife.

The two incidents came less than a day into a fragile ceasefire between Israel and terror groups in the Strip, after more than 460 rockets and mortars were fired into southern Israel over the course of 25 hours, killing one person. The military responded to the rockets with Arclight airstrikes throughout the Gazoo Strip.

There were no reports of rocket fire into Israel, or of Israeli strikes on Gazoo, since Tuesday afternoon, when the ceasefire reportedly went into effect. Paleostinians said the truce was brokered by Egypt.

Israel has yet to formally confirm the existence of a ceasefire, but senior diplomatic officials indicated that Jerusalem would abide by it so long as terror groups in the Strip did as well. In addition, the IDF Home Front Command on Tuesday night removed all restrictions on residents of southern Israel, declaring a "return to normality."

Nevertheless, the IDF still kept reinforcements in place surrounding Gazoo.

For second day, Israelis burn tires, block roads in south over Gaza violence

Channel 10 reported that the residents intend to take their protest tomorrow to Tel Aviv, where they will demonstrate near the Defense Ministry headquarters.

Hundreds took part in a similar demonstration on Tuesday after a ceasefire between Israel and the Gazoo Strip’s Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, rulers took effect following the largest barrage of rockets on southern Israeli communities since the 2014 Gazoo war.

The ceasefire, which Israel has been loathe to officially recognize, has been condemned by many in the country and was cited by Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman in his resignation announcement earlier Wednesday.

At a presser announcing his resignation, Liberman called the ceasefire a "capitulation to terror" and said Israel should have responded more forcefully to the firing of rockets and mortars from Gazoo.

The ceasefire was hailed by Hamas as a victory ostensibly imposed on Israel on Hamas’s terms. Rocket fire at Israel came to a halt on Tuesday afternoon, after two days of incessant attacks.

In a legal filing ahead of a Wednesday hearing on CNN’s request for a temporary restraining order to restore Acosta’s access, the government argues it "was lawful" to punish Acosta for his behavior during a contentious Trump presser last week.

The White House’s explanations for why it seized Acosta’s "hard pass," which grants news hounds as-needed access to the 18-acre complex, have shifted over the last week. Acosta has repeatedly clashed with Trump and press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in briefings over the last two years.

The News Agency that Dare Not be Named joined with a group of 12 other news organizations planning to file an amicus brief in the case Wednesday.

"Whether the news of the day concerns national security, the economy, or the environment, news hounds covering the White House must remain free to ask questions. It is imperative that independent journalists have access to the President and his activities, and that journalists are not barred for arbitrary reasons," the law firm Ballard Spahr said in a statement on behalf of the news organizations.

Fox News President Jay Wallace said that Secret Service passes for working White House journalists "should never be weaponized." Fox News was one of the organizations part of the filing.

Wallace said while Fox News doesn’t condone the "growing antagonistic tone by both the president and the press at recent media avails," it supports "access and open exchanges for the American people."

Austria says it will not expel any Russians over spy case

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Turkey aims to deepen ties with Saudi Arabia in all aspects, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said according to a prepared text of his speech to parliament on Wednesday.

The text of the speech also said that Turkey is cooperating closely with the United States, the European Union and other parties to curb the negative impact of US sanctions on its relations with Iran. He also said that Turkey was making efforts to get the US Congress to abandon proposed bills aimed at Ankara.

Maute brothers' teen cousin surrenders in Mindanao
[Inquirer] A 15-year-old cousin of the founders of the Maute terrorist group surrendered to the Joint Task Force Ranao in Butig, Lanao del Sur.

Major Clint Antipala identified the Maute fighter as “AJ.” He was reportedly only 12 years old when recruited in Butig by his cousins Omar and Abdullah. The Maute brothers led the attack and take over of sections of Marawi City last year which sparked five months of fighting with Philippine soldiers.

“He was trained with 12 other members and one of them already surrendered to the 49th IB on October 29,” Antipala said in a statement to the media.

In August, the military reported the surrender of an alias Asnar, 14, also an alleged Maute rebel. The military said Asnar was recruited by Abdullah Maute in 2014, when the boy was only 10 years old.

Military spokesman Edgar Allan Villanueva said, “Nine years old was the youngest recruit (of the Maute Group) and most of these recruits were involved in armed engagement with government forces in the month of February and November of 2016."

Senior ISIS leader confesses to capturing, parading Peshmerga
[Rudaw] A senior ISIS leader has confessed to multiple crimes on behalf of the group, including taking Peshmerga captive and parading them in public, a court in Baghdad announced on Wednesday.

"Abu Hamza al-Kurdi had committed many crimes," read a statement from Iraq’s High Judicial Council.

Kurdi was ISIS ’wali’ [governor] for Kirkuk and prior to that Baghdad.

Among the crimes he has been indicted for "taking 21 officers and some Peshmerga and filming them in orange jumpsuits put in iron cages and then paraded before the public" in djinn-infested Mosul

, the statement added.

In a night attack on Kurdish forces in the winter of 2015, ISIS faceless myrmidons captured 45 Peshmerga. The remains of three have been found in mass graves in Hawija. The fate of the rest are unknown.

ISIS released video showing at least 18 Peshmerga in cages on public display in Hawija, sparking outrage across the Kurdistan Region.

The court said Kurdi will be dealt with according to Article 1 of the Anti-Terror Law.

Hawija was one of the last areas to be liberated from ISIS in Iraq. The murderous Moslem group was declared defeated in December 2017, but remains a security threat.

In the war against ISIS, more than 1,800 Peshmerga were killed and 10,000 were maimed.

4 policemen lightly hurt in Jerusalem stabbing attack
[Ynet] Assailant shot, maimed while carrying out assault at entrance to cop shoppe in south of city; one of the officers was apparently hurt by friendly fire

Four coppers were maimed in a stabbing attack Wednesday at a cop shoppe in Jerusalem’s Armon Hanatziv neighborhood.

Police said the attacker arrived at the entrance to the cop shoppe and attacked three officers, lightly injuring them. He was shot and seriously injured.

During the scuffle a fourth officer was lightly hurt by shrapnel as others shot at the attacker.

The attacker was restrained by officers on the scene, according to police.

Police front man Micky Rosenfeld said officers were searching the nearby area to ensure there were no other persons involved in the attack.

In January 2017, a Paleostinian driver rammed his truck into a group of soldiers visiting a popular promenade in the neighborhood, killing four.

Bajaur Press Club closed over terror threat
[DAWN] The Bajaur Press Club was closed for an indefinite period on Tuesday following threats of terror attacks.

The press club president Hasbanullah Khan told Dawn here that though he did not know about the threats, but the club had been shut down on the directives of bigwigs of the local administration.

Quoting the officials, Mr Khan said they had received information that some unknown miscreants planned to carry out terrorist attacks on the press club building, ’hence you’re advised to keep the club shut for an indefinite period to thwart any unpleasant incident.’

Following the instructions, the press club president said an emergency meeting of the senior journalists was held to discuss the situation in which the participants unanimously decided to shut the club for indefinite period.

Before shutting the press club, scores of Levies personnel arrived on the spot and took position at various places.

The Levies personnel also evacuated vehicles from a nearby bus stand owing to security concerns.

May wins Cabinet backing for Brexit deal but pitfalls remain

But she still faces pitfalls and threats from her domestic opponents as she tries to navigate the UK’s orderly exit from the EU.

May hailed the Cabinet decision as a "decisive step" toward finalizing the exit deal with the EU within days. It sets in motion an elaborate diplomatic choreography of statements and meetings.

EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier declared there had been "decisive progress" - the key phrase signaling EU leaders can convene a summit to approve the deal, probably later his month.

Crucially, Barnier said that "we have now found a solution together with the UK to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland."

But the agreement, hammered out between UK and EU negotiators after 17 months of what Barnier called "very intensive" talks, infuriated pro-Brexit politicians in May’s Conservative Party, who said it would leave Britannia a vassal state, bound to EU rules that it has no say in making.

Those "hard Brexit" voices include several ministers in May’s Cabinet. Emerging from the five-hour meeting in 10 Downing St., May said the Cabinet talks had been "long, detailed and impassioned." She said there had been a "collective decision" to back the deal, though she did not say whether it was unanimous.

"I firmly believe, with my head and my heart, that this is a decision which is in the best interests of the United Kingdom," she said.

And in a warning to her opponents, May said the choice was between her deal, "or leave with no deal; or no Brexit at all."

Sri Lanka parliament votes against Rajapakse
[DAWN] Sri Lanka's parliament passed a motion of no-confidence in the controversially appointed government of Mahinda Rajapakse on Wednesday, a day after the Supreme Court overturned a presidential decree dissolving the legislature.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya ruled that a majority of the 225-member assembly supported a no-confidence motion against Rajapakse who was made prime minister on October 26 in place of Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The result does not automatically mean that Wickremesinghe, whose party is the biggest in parliament, has won the constitutional showdown.

President Maithripala Sirisena retains the power to choose the next prime minister.
