At least 60 killed in terror attack at Shi'ite holy site in Syria
Not content that Russia was concentrating its deadly efforts first on Assad's smaller and less successful foes, and only incidentally destroying oil transport trucks, etc., ISIS demands Russia turn its full attention in their direction.
[Ynet] Car bomb and two jacket wallahs explode near grave of the holy Zaynab, the daughter of the Imam Ali, where Hezbollah and other Shi'ite militias gather; ISIS claims responsibility for attack.

At least 60 people were killed and dozens maimed on Sunday in a terror attack at a southern district of Damascus where Syria's holiest Shi'ite shrine is located.

There were three kabooms near the Tomb of the holy Zaynab, the daughter of Ali ibn Abi Taleb, the cousin of Prophet Mohammed whom Shi'ites consider the rightful successor to the prophet. The dispute over the succession led to the major Sunni-Shi'ite schism in Islam.

The heavily populated area is a site of pilgrimage for Shi'ites from Iran, Leb and other parts of the Muslim world.

A Syrian Interior Minister official told the state news agency SANA that a boom-mobile first went off at a bus terminal, and two suicide bombers then blew up among the people who gathered to help the maimed.

The Sayeda Zaynab shrine area witnessed heavy festivities in the first few years of the conflict, which began in 2011, but has since been secured by the Syrian army and Shi'ite militias led by Hezbollah, which has set up protective roadblocks around it.

In addition to being an important religious site for Shi'ites, the site of the attack has become a point of gathering for Hezbollah fighters and fighters from other Shi'ite militias who are fighting alongside the Assad regime in Syria.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
organization grabbed credit for the attack. The Amaq news agency, associated with ISIS, said the group committed the attacks in order to hurt the most important stronghold of the Shi'ite militias in Damascus.
TheTimes of Israel earlier reported the number of dead at 45 with 110 wounded, and added:
An AFP photographer at the scene said the blasts caused massive damage, shattering windows and ripping a huge crater in the road. Smoke rose from the twisted carcasses of more than a dozen cars and a bus damaged in the blasts, as ambulances ferried away the maimed and firefighters worked to put out blazes started by the bombings.

The area around the shrine is heavily secured with regime checkpoints set up hundreds of metres away to prevent vehicles from getting close to Sayyida Zeinab.

DoS Records Show John Kerry Sent Beest A €'SECRET' Email From His iPad
[Daily Caller] Emails released by the State Department on Friday show that in 2011, then-Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry sent then-Sec. of State Hillary Clinton an email from his iPad that has been deemed to contain information classified as "Secret."

While previous releases of Clinton's emails have shown that she and her staff communicated directly with Kerry when he was a senator, the new email is the first from Kerry that the State Department has determined contains sensitive information.

Kerry has largely been silent throughout the Clinton email controversy. He has sent letters asking the State Department's inspector general to review the agency's records keeping practices, but he has not publicly criticized Clinton for exclusively using a personal email account and a home-brew email server.

Perhaps now we know why.

State Dept. Withholding 18 Emails Between the Beest and Champ
[Daily Caller] The State Department is withholding 18 emails between former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton and President Obama, agency spokesman John Kirby said Friday.

The news comes at the same time that the State Department announced that 22 of Clinton's emails contain "top secret" information. That's a far higher number than had previously been disclosed. The agency's Freedom of Information Act department is withholding seven email chains in full in order to protect the highly classified information.
As was predicted here months ago, Champ [and the White House Communications Detachment] was very likely aware and a co-participant in the Beest's email violations. Expect 'Executive Privilege' defense and White House directed investigation into alleged 'over-classifications' to be issued very soon.

With Snowden, Chinese hackers, the White House, the Beest, Mills and Blumenthal, the wholesale compromise and destruction of the National Communications Security (COMSEC) system is nearly complete.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Oh yoo hoo, US Navy: This gun can stop small rogue drones without destroying them
We've seen a couple of brute force anti-drone devices designed to snatch the tiny machines out of the sky, but Battelle's DroneDefender is one of the first to do it with an invisible beam delivered in an ultraportable, gun-like form.

The device uses radio control frequency disruption to halt and bring down drones in a way that keeps the drone intact while preventing it from setting off any kind of self-destruct sequence.

Of course, there are other non-contact anti-drone solutions already available, such as the Falcon Shield and the Blighter AUDS (Anti-UAV Defence System), but the DroneDefender is far more portable and lightweight (less than 10 pounds) than those stationary systems.

"This is just the kind of tool we need to safely counter a drone threat," Dan Stamm, a lead researcher on the project, said in a press statement. "The DroneDefender can help protect us from those who may wish to do us harm. It can help us in numerous settings, from the White House lawn to bases and embassies overseas; from prisons and schools to historic sites. It easily and reliably neutralizes the threat."

However, the anti-drone device, which was unveiled back in October, mysteriously disappeared from public view soon after. A visit to Battelle online reveals that the device has been entirely scrubbed from the company's website. When we attempted to contact the company to ask questions, we received an automated reply that confirmed the removal of the DroneDefender, as well as a hint as to why it was removed.

"FCC regulations (47 CFR 15) prohibit the marketing or sale of this device to entities other than U.S. Government agencies," reads the statement. "We are examining ITAR [International Traffic in Arms Regulations] and other export regulations at this time. Due to communication spectrum regulations and legal limitations on its use, we do not have near-term plans to pursue commercial sales."

So for now, the drone stopping gun is back to being a really cool weapon for the government, while civilians are still left with more crude means of stopping drones. Although disappeared from its website, the company promises a return to public view for the DroneDefender sometime in 2016, with a focus on sales to U.S. governmental agencies.

That last point is important because small drones are increasingly being used for aerial surveillance. In the case of industrial espionage, the ability to snag a drone intact in order to investigate its source could be vital.

Capable of five hours of continuous use, the device has a range of 400 meters and jams ISM bands (radio frequencies reserved for industrial, scientific and medical devices) and GPS signals. A look at a brief video demonstration (below) shows a user targeting and bringing down a small drone with ease, just outside of what looks like a guarded facility.

Mike Mukasey: If Champ Blocks a Beest Indictment, Expect Resignations
[Breitbart] Monday on Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzburg Show," while discussing the FBI investigation of Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton's handling of classified material on an unsecured server during her tenure as secretary of state and possible charges, former Attorney General Michael Mukasey said President Barack Obama would face Watergate-level resignations if he attempted to block a recommended indictment.

Mukasey said, "I have confidence in the FBI. I have confidence in people at the Justice Department, some of them, at any rate, who are involved in this investigation--that is people in the national security division. It's less a matter of confidence than it is a matter of believing that people, out of self-preservation, would not want to be seen to be sweeping this under the rug."

When host Malzberg asked if Obama could protect Clinton, Mukasey said, "The fact is that the president can direct the attorney general not to bring charges. The attorney general works for the president and the president can order that ... Although I can't believe that you wouldn't get people resigning in the wake of something like that, the same way that we did at the time of Watergate."

It occurs to me that most Americans have no idea about how serious a breech of compartmentalized security really is nor how ludicrous the claim of "over classification" in this context really is. #5  Time will tell. If Hilldabeast can get away with:
1) Not marked classified at the time. So if I cover the markings (top and bottom) and put it in an email then I haven't violated the law? Righttt.

2) It was over classified. Given that compartments have subcompartments to limit to as few who have a need to know as possible? How stupid is the propagandist that the beast is paying to come up with this manure?

#6  Assuming for the moment that there are conscientious careerists at the FBI (and I concede this is possible), please explain why Champ would give 2 shits about them quitting.

Now, that said, the only reason the FBI is investigating Hillary is because Champ has directed them to, and the only reason he would call them off is as a result of a deal that would turn a Hillary administration into a 3rd Obama term.

Mahdi Champ to Speak at Mosque Where Imam Condoned Bombings
[Breitbart] President Obama is set to speak next week at a mosque which was led for over a decade by an Imam who justified suicide bombings in some circumstances and who helped found a mosque with ties to Al Qaeda.

The President will visit the Islamic Society of Baltimore on Wednesday and deliver remarks there, the White House confirmed on Saturday. This will be the first time the President has paid an official visit to a mosque during his seven years as President. However, Obama has toured mosques while on overseas trips.

"The president believes that one of our nation's greatest strengths is our rich diversity," White House spokesman Keith Maley said, confirming reports. "As the president has said, Muslim Americans are our friends, and neighbors; our co-workers, and sports heroes -- and our men and women in uniform defending our country."

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR)--which has been declared a terrorist organization in the United Arab Emirates and was named by federal prosecutors as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation's Hamas-funding operation--welcomed Obama's decision.

China-Japan-Koreas
This Is China's Master Plan to Destroy the U.S. Navy in Battle
[The National Interest] When Chinese officers go to bed at night, what do they fear most?

Despite all the hard work, all the billions of dollars spent, no Chinese sailor wants to tangle with the U.S. Navy. As one retired Chinese senior defense official told me in late 2014: "The 3 A.M. crisis 'call' I feared the most is that we were at war with your navy."

While such a statement surely tickles the hearts of Pentagon officials, know this: Fear, when focused properly, can make the mind--and the collective power of nations--help craft solutions to complex military challenges that might at one time have seemed nearly impossible.

For example, during the 1995-1996 Taiwan Crisis, Beijing's 'nightmares' were nearly realized. When faced with a superior military power that could deploy massive amounts of advanced naval assets and project power from multiple domains like no other nation in history, China simply could not compete. Chinese leaders, especially President Jiang Zemin, would fear the power of American Carrier Battle Groups (CBGs) and their ability to negate what little military might Beijing could bring to bear on Taipei. At one point, there is strong evidence to suggest China could not even find the location of U.S. Carriers--a big problem for sure. The crisis would clearly shape Beijing's thinking on the development of weapons that could provide an asymmetric edge.

So what weapons would China use against the U.S. Navy if combat did ever commence? Some of these weapons, and I am talking to you National Interest readers, you know--and know well. Others, such as one or two of the three platforms I would like to focus on for this blog post, are not as well known, and yet, could give the U.S. Navy the greatest of fits. In a Taiwan crisis scenario--a scenario in which Beijing to this day still sees as the greatest possible military challenge--the following listed below are platforms U.S. strategic thinkers truly fear (and arguably don't have exact solutions to mitigate at the moment):

French-speaking jihadist executes ‘apostates’ in IS video
[IsraelTimes] Footage posted on jihadist websites shows young men testifying to have acted against group before being rubbed out

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group released a video Saturday purporting to show a French-speaking jihadist threatening attacks against the West and executing so-called apostates and spies in Iraq.

The footage, posted on jihadist websites, is said to have been produced by the IS media office in Iraq's Nineveh province, and shows young men testifying to have acted against the jihadists before being rubbed out execution style.

The French-speaker wears a beige mask and military fatigues and carries a handgun. Curls of blond hair can be seen below his mask.

The video appears to have been made after the November 13 Gay Paree attacks that killed 130 people and were claimed by IS.

The French-speaking man brands the US-led coalition fighting IS in Syria and Iraq "imbecile miscreants" and warns that they will be unable to crush the jihadist group.

He vows that IS will carry out acts that will make the West forget the September 11 attacks against the United States that killed nearly 3,000 people, or the Gay Paree carnage.

He also vows that the West, particularly Spain, will "pay dearly" for having crushed Muslim rule in ancient Andalusia, in southern Spain where the Moors ruled from 711 CE to 1492. He speaks of Cordoba and Toledo and says the ancient land of Andalusia is Muslim and has not been forgotten.

At the end of the almost eight-minute video, the French-speaker and other IS fighters shoot dead five kneeling men in orange jumpsuits.

The "execution" appears to take place in the ruins of a building which destroyed in an air strike.

Germany's Merkel says refugees must return home once war over
Let the scorn begin.
[AlAhram] German Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany. She was educated in East Germany when is was still run by commies, but in 1989 got involved with the growing democracy movement when the Berlin Wall fell. Merkel is sometimes referred to by Germans as Mom...
on Saturday tried to placate the increasingly vocal critics of her open-door policy for refugees, insisting that asylum seekers from Syria and Iraq would go home once the conflicts there had ended.

Merkel, despite appearing increasingly isolated over her policy, has resisted pressure from some conservatives to cap the influx of refugees, or to close Germany's borders. A record 1.1 million migrants arrived in Germany last year.

But growing concern about the country's ability to cope and worries about crime and security after assaults on women are weighing on support for Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party and its Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU).

Merkel said that despite efforts to integrate refugees and help them, it was important to stress that they had only been given permission to stay for a limited period of time.

"We need ... to say to people that this is a temporary residential status and we expect that once there is peace in Syria again, once IS has been defeated in Iraq, that you go back to your home country with the knowledge that you have gained," she said at a meeting of CDU members in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

She said 70 percent of refugees that fled to Germany from the war in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s had returned to their home countries.

Her remarks come after Horst Seehofer, leader of the CSU, threatened to take her government to court if his demand to stem the flow of asylum seekers was not met.
Her remarks come after Horst Seehofer, leader of the CSU, threatened to take her government to court if his demand to stem the flow of asylum seekers was not met.

Support for the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) has edged up into double digits. Its leader said in an interview published on Saturday that border guards should shoot at refugees to prevent them from illegally entering the country if need be.

Merkel has tried to convince other European countries to take in quotas of refugees, pushed for reception centres to be built on Europe's external borders, and led an EU campaign to try to convince The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to keep refugees from entering the bloc.

But progress has been slow.

Germany wants to limit migration from North Africa by declaring Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia "safe countries", which would end their citizens' chance of being granted asylum.

Merkel said she had spoken to Morocco's king and that Morocco had said it was prepared to take back people from that country.

Hamas says commando killed off Gaza coast
[IsraelTimes] Terror group acknowledges man was killed during 'jihad mission' after local media claimed he was a drowned fisherman

Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, commando was killed Friday overnight during an operation of the coast of the Gazoo Strip, Hamas's military wing the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades announced Saturday.
He wasn't wearing underpants.
The group said Hamdi a-Sultan was killed during a "jihad mission."

Paleostinian media in Gazoo had previously reported that a-Sultan was a fisherman who fell off his boat and drowned. His body has yet to be recovered.

Hamas is rebuilding its tunnel infrastructure and restocking its weapons stockpiles in Gazoo, in preparation for its next conflict with Israel.

The terror group has more than 1,000 people working around the clock, six days a week, to dig attack tunnels under the border and into Israel, with the group believing it can use the tunnels to carry out an "opening strike" against Israel in any future round of fighting.

Many in the organization believe that maintaining the status quo is untenable in Gazoo, where rising unemployment and poverty rates, closed borders, and the erratic supply of electrical power could damage Hamas's ability to survive, particularly in light of the Egyptian embargo and the cutback in support from Iran.

Gazoo has never been in such a bad humanitarian situation, residents say, calling it much more difficult than it was on the eve of the last war in 2014.

Suspected neo-Nazi gangs attack migrants in Sweden
[IsraelTimes] Police had bolstered presence in Stockholm after learning forces of Evil planned 'aggression on unaccompanied migrant minors'

Dozens of masked men believed to belong to neo-Nazi gangs carried out a number of assaults on migrants in Stockholm overnight amid rising tension over immigration, Swedish police said Saturday.

Police had beefed up their presence in the city center, deploying anti-riot and helicopter units after learning that forces of Evil were planning "aggression on unaccompanied migrant minors" in the city late on Friday.

"I was passing by and saw a masked group dressed in black... start hitting foreigners. I saw three people molested," the Aftonbladet daily quoted one witness as saying.

Police front man Towe Hagg said by midday police had not received any complaints of assault but one 46-year-old man was tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
after striking a plain clothed officer.

Three further people were briefly detained for public order offenses and one more faces charges for carrying a knife.

As many as 100 people, their faces covered, had descended in the early evening on the Sergels Torg pedestrian square, a popular meeting point for young people, including unaccompanied migrants.

Aftonbladet quoted witnesses as saying the masked group targeted "people of foreign appearance" and handed out leaflets urging the infliction of "deserved punishment on children of the North African street."

Internet site Nordfront, an online forum for the neo-Nazi SMR movement, said its "sources" had revealed that around "100 hooligans" from the AIK and Djurgarden football clubs had gathered Friday in order to "sort out the criminals coming in from North Africa."

After initially taking a generous stance on migration -- the country of 9.8 million is among the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
states with the highest proportion of refugees per capita -- Sweden has in recent days said it expects to expel tens of thousands of people over several years as it struggles to cope with the influx.

The number of new migrants entering the country has plunged since Stockholm introduced systematic photo ID checks on travellers on January 4.

The toughening of policy comes against a backdrop of rising concern over conditions in the country's overcrowded asylum facilities, and officials called for greater security after an employee at a refugee center for unaccompanied youths was fatally stabbed earlier this week.

The 22-year-old Swedish refugee shelter worker was killed Monday by a teenage male asylum seeker in the western Swedish coastal town of Molndal, near Gothenburg, authorities said.

According to the Daily Mail, the youth allegedly stabbed Alexandra Mezher on Monday morning at a shelter for unaccompanied teenage migrant minors. She succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

The incident marks the latest in a string of high-profile attacks, including sexual assaults, that authorities in Stockholm and elsewhere in the country have ascribed to asylum-seeking young men from Middle Eastern countries.

Houthis detain five activists, journalist
CAIRO: Gunmen from Yemen's Houthi movement detained a local journalist and five activists after a raid on an apartment in the capital Sanaa on Saturday, activists said, the latest detention of a reporter in the war-ravaged country.

The gunmen stormed the apartment at dawn and took journalist Nabil Al-Sharabi and the activists to an unknown location. The Houthis had fired guns when the men attempted to escape, activists said.
Representatives of the Iran-allied Houthi movement were not immediately reachable for comment. Human Rights Watch says the Houthis have detained numerous political opposition figures, activists, and journalists.

Sharabi, the detained journalist, had worked for local daily Akhbar Al-Youm, which the Houthis closed down after taking control of Sanaa in 2014. The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate says the Houthis have been holding 12 other journalists for several months after accusing them of acting against the movement and of supporting Hadi's government.

Yemen is ranked 168th out of 180 countries in the 2015 Reporters Without Borders press freedom index. The group said last week that at least 17 journalists and media workers were being held hostage in Yemen by armed groups including the Houthis.

Separately, a suicide bombing killed seven people and wounded seven others Friday night in Aden, the second deadly attack in as many days in Yemen’s second city, medics and security sources said.
The bombing targeted a police checkpoint not far from Thursday’s suicide attack that killed eight people

Afghanistan
Journalist Gunned Down In Nangarhar
A number of unidentified gunmen shot dead Mohammad Zubair Khaksar, a journalist, in Nangarhar on Friday night.

The incident took place in Surkhrod district of the province, when Khaksar was on his way home.

Khaksar's family members and the journalists' union in Nangarhar called on local officials to arrest the assailants.

Khaksar was working for Radio Television of Afghanistan (RTA) and was also a writer.

"We didn't have enmity with anyone. His (Khaksar's) only work was media and his weapon was his pen and white paper," said Abdul Mohammad, Khaksar's brother.

Zamir, his other brother, said: "Khaksar was not only our brother. He was Nangarhar's voice and Nangarhar's voice has been cut. We didn't have personal enmity with anyone."

Meanwhile, the provincial governor, Salim Khan Kunduzi, said that President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah have assigned local security organizations to bring the assailants to book.

"The president, the CEO and National Security Advisor, Hanif Atmar, contacted me and they also sent their condolence letters. They directed security organizations to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators of this oppression to justice," he said.

He vowed that Zubair Khaksar's killers will be arrested soon.

ISIS beheads Syrian teenager
URFA – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) beheaded on Saturday a Syrian teenager in the northern city of Jarablus after accusing him of apostasy. The 14-year-old boy was arrested by ISIS militants for missing Friday prayers at the central mosque of Jarablus, where pro-ISIS preachers usually deliver speeches promoting the group’s alleged Caliphate.
Tough penalty for playing hooky...
Speaking to ARA News in Jarablus, civil rights activist Nasser Taljbini reported that the ISIS-led Sharia Court order the militants to behead the boy in public.

“Dozens of people attended the brutal execution, including the victim’s parents who were forced to witness the beheading of their own son,” Taljbini said.

“ISIS is trying to prove that it is still powerful despite all the military defeats. The group is trying to terrorize people through conducting such public punishments,” the source told ARA News.

Local sources in Jarablus said that ISIS sees in the teenagers as future jihadis who should receive a proper Sharia education in order to stay committed to the message of the so-called Caliphate.

Second suicide bombing in two days in Aden kills seven
A suicide bombing killed seven people and wounded seven others on Friday night in Aden – the second deadly attack in as many days in Yemen’s second city, medics and security sources said.

The bombing targeted a police checkpoint not far from the site of a suicide attack on Thursday that killed eight people, including soldiers and civilians, outside the presidential palace in the city, the sources said. A hospital spokesman confirmed that seven people were killed in Friday’s bombing.

There was no immediate claim of responsiblity for the attack but the Islamic State group said it was responsible for Thursday’s bombing.

President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi was in the palace at the time of Thursday’s attack but unharmed, a government official said.

Aden has become the temporary headquarters of Hadi’s government as it battles to retake large parts of Yemen from Shia Houthi rebels.

The Grand Turk
Rooshuns: no new violation of Turkish Air Space. Wudn't Us.
The Russian Defense Ministry said Saturday that no Russian aircraft had violated Turkish airspace, adding that neither Russian air defense in Syria, nor Syrian radards had detected violations of Turkish borders by a Russian Su-34 warplane as Ankara claimed earlier in the day, Sputnik reported.

Turkey's reports of an alleged violation of Turkish airspace by a Russian Su-34 are unfounded and "propaganda," the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said.

"There were no violations of Turkish airspace by aircraft of the Russian air group in the Syrian Arab Republic. Turkish authorities' statements of an alleged violation of Turkish airspace by a Russian Su-34 jet are naked propaganda," Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.

The alleged incident involving a Su-34 fighter bomber took place on Friday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said earlier in the day, adding that the plane had been warned by Turkish air radar units.

"None of these radars are able to establish the type and affiliation of an aircraft — whether it belongs to Russia or to the so-called US-led anti-ISIL [Daesh] coalition," Konashenkov told reporters.

He emphasized that neither Russian air defense systems in Syria nor Syrian radar stations detected any violations of the Turkey-Syria border.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said earlier in the day it had summoned the Russian ambassador after an alleged incident involving a Su-34 fighter bomber. On Saturday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he wanted to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin after the incident.

Israeli teen lightly hurt in Jerusalem stabbing attack
[IsraelTimes] Police detain two East Jerusalem minors suspected of attacking 17-year-old near the Damascus Gate

17-year-old Israeli youth was lightly maimed Saturday afternoon in a stabbing attack at the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The Israeli was said to be lightly maimed in the back in the attack, which occurred on Sultan Suleiman Street at around 5:35 p.m.

A police spokeswoman said two Jewish youths were attacked in Jerusalem by two Paleostinian minors. "One was lightly maimed and the other managed to escape and alert the police," she said.

The two attackers expeditiously departed at a goodly pace, prompting a manhunt.

Police later announced the detention of two minors, both residents of East Jerusalem, who matched the descriptions of the attackers. The two were handed over for interrogation. Both are apparently aged 15, Channel 2 television said.

Police continued the manhunt, however, and did not immediately confirm that the two youths in detention were the attackers. The police also distributed an image of one of the attackers.

Erdogan Eyes Expanding Turkey Influence on Latin America Tour
[AnNahar] Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
on Saturday embarks on a major tour of Latin American countries in a bid to expand Ankara's ties outside its traditional sphere of influence.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
is seeking to diversify its partners beyond its traditional sphere of influence within the bounds of the former Ottoman Empire in the Middle East and the Balkans, analysts say.

"The visit is part of Turkey's longer term ambition to expand its presence in Latin America, both to increase Turkish influence globally and also to reach out to new potential trade partners," said Aaron Stein, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, a U.S. think tank.

With its opening to Latin America, Turkey appears to want to forge new alliances in new regions at a time of tricky ties with the United States, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and Russia.

Turkey's "multi-vector" foreign policy also covers Africa, which has been the subject of significantly greater interest from Turkey and visits by Erdogan in recent years.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, a former foreign minister, is seen as the architect of this policy, pushing for a pivotal role for Turkey in global and not just regional affairs.

This newly-assertive foreign policy by a key NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization....
member was slammed in some quarters for being "neo-Ottoman" and for drifting away from its Western axis.

In a sign of its growing soft power, Turkey's soap operas are taking Latin American countries by storm, prompting TV executives across the continent to start importing Turkish series to a region more used to exporting its own "telenovelas".

This reverses the long-held trend of Turkey banking on Latin American prime time soap operas.

, less than a week after the police potted a preacher accused of encouraging youths to join the murderous Moslem group.

Police declined to say exactly how many people were arrested but said at least some of the suspects they had been pursuing had fled the country.

On Monday, police detained Muhammad Mugemangango, the deputy imam at Kigali's Kimironko Mosque, and accused him of recruiting for the Islamic State, which is fighting in Iraq and Syria.

Mugemangango was shot and killed while attempting to escape, police said.

Dagestan blocks access to 40 extremist websites
[TASS] Dagestan has blocked access to 40 Internet resources, the republic’s Press and Information Minister, Aznaur Adzhiyev, said at a meeting of the Anti-Terrorist Commission on Friday. He said, "In July-December 2015 about 100 resources having extremist features were exposed. At the end of January access to more than 40 resources was blocked."

The Press and Information Ministry said it had created a group of four qualified specialists monitoring the Internet on the permanent basis. Adzhiyev said, "Print and electronic media, Dagestan's segments of the social networks and blogs are being scrutinized for the presence of anti-constitutional, nationalist and extremist publications. Monitoring lists are dispatched to the authorities concerned."

"A group of journalists, experts and bloggers specializing on the problems of extremism and terrorism has been created. It incorporates members of the anti-terrorist committee in Dagestan, the executive authorities, law enforcement agencies, the Dagestani Research Center under the Russian Academy of Sciences and local universities. In the whole of 2015 about 1,300 anti-terrorist materials have been placed in the mass media," Adzhiyev said, adding that clerics are actively involved in the effort to resist extremism.

Experts question incentives in Rewards for Justice program
[Inquirer] The $5 million price tag for the capture, dead or alive, of Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, has caught the attention of experts in the aftermath of a tragic police operation to take him down in Mamasapano, Maguindanao province, a year ago.

How the bounty affected the overall conduct of the operation is not clear. However, a Jakarta-based think-tank has urged a rethinking of the role of rewards in the war on terror. As with other terrorists, the bounty for Marwan's capture was put up by the U.S. Rewards for Justice program. The program is credited for aiding in the downfall of key Abu Sayyaf leaders. As of 2012, intelligence firm Strategic Forecasting said, more than $11 million in bounties had been paid out in the Philippines by the program.

The program's website listed as part of its success stories the capture of key Abu Sayyaf figures: Toting Craft Hanno, Khadaffy Janjalani (deceased), and Abu Solaiman and Hamsiraji Marusi Sali. It paid $100,000 for Hanno, $5 million for Janjalani, $5 million for Solaiman, and $1 million for Sali.

In a report, the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict, said,"The huge bounties placed on the heads of foreign jihadis have helped to burnish their reputations as world-class terrorists, perhaps out of proportion to their actual roles. They encourage killing high-value targets rather than making any effort to arrest them alive."

In 2008, a Brussels-based think-tank warned about the distorting effect of monetary rewards in the drive against terrorists in the Philippines. In its report, the International Crisis Group noted that military informants "equate amount of bounty with the importance of the individual concerned."

It cited the case of Jemaah Islamiyah operatives Umar Patek and Dulmatin. Dulmatin, who reports to Umar Patek, commanded $10 million in reward for his capture while his boss only fetched $1 million.

The Rewards for Justice program now lists four terrorists in East Asia and the Pacific region whose capture merits its bounty. They are Isnilon Hapilon of Abu Sayyaf, up to $5 million; Radullan Sahiron of Abu Sayyaf, up to $1 million; and Indonesian Jemaah Islamiyah operative Aris Sumarsono alias Zulkarnaen or Daud, up to $5 million. Abdul Basit Usman of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, who was killed last year, is still on the list, with a reward of up to $1 million.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Major Islamist groups in Syria fail to unify
[Rudaw] Two major armed Islamist groups fighting in Syria - Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
and Syria's al-Qaeda offshoot Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli sh-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
- have failed to merge into one overall group which could more effectively fight the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Before going into the family business Pencilneck was an eye doctor. If he'd stuck with it he'd have had a good practice by now...
and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) group, Rueters reported.

Ahrar al-Sham and Nusra worked together under the banner of Jaish al-Fatah. A coalition of Islamists who overran most of the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib last May.

While both have a jihadi agenda, Nusra remains loyal to al-Qaeda's leadership and seeks global jihad. al-Sham, on the other hand, portrays itself as a nationalist force and has joined the groups representing the opposition at the Geneva peace talks. Nusra depicts it as simply a proxy of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
serving that powers interest in Syria.

The collapse of their recent attempts has seen festivities erupt between them which has left scores of Islamists from both groups dead.

Observers predict they are the start of a widening rift in the complicated intra-Islamist war within the larger Syrian war.

When Nusra refused to break from al-Qaeda and join ISIS in 2014 it similarly ended up fighting with that group in another intra-Islamist war which left hundreds of jihadis on each side dead.

U.S. Navy sends ship near disputed island in South China Sea
The U.S. Navy sent a ship near a contested island in the South China Sea on Saturday to challenge "excessive maritime claims that restrict the rights and freedoms of the United States and others," a U.S. Defense Department spokesman told CNN.

"This operation challenged attempts by the three claimants, China, Taiwan and Vietnam, to restrict navigation rights and freedoms around the features they claim by policies that require prior permission or notification of transit within territorial seas," Cmdr. Bill Urban said.

"This operation demonstrates, as President Obama and Secretary [Ash] Carter have stated, the United States will fly, sail and operate anywhere international law allows. That is true in the South China Sea, as in other places around the globe."

The USS Curtis Wilbur, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, sailed within 12 nautical miles of the Triton Island, part of the Paracel Islands -- an archipelago claimed by the three. None of them was notified of the move.

"This operation was about challenging excessive maritime claims that restrict the rights and freedoms of the United States and others, not about territorial claims to land features," Urban said. "The United States takes no position on competing sovereignty claims between the parties to naturally formed land features in the South China Sea. The United States does take a strong position on protecting the rights, freedoms, and lawful uses of the sea and airspace guaranteed to all countries, and that all maritime claims must comply with international law."

A spokeswoman for China's Foreign Ministry denounced the action.

"The U.S. naval ship violated Chinese law to enter China's territorial waters. China monitored the ship's movement and issued verbal messages in accordance with law," Hua Chunying said. "We urge the U.S. side to respect and abide by relevant laws of China, and do more to improve mutual trust as well as regional peace and stability."

Cui Tiankai, the Chinese ambassador to the United States, told CNN's Christiane Amanpour that the operation was "a very serious provocation, politically and militarily."

And a spokesman for the Chinese defense ministry, Senior Col. Yang Yujun, said Saturday's move and ones like it are "very unprofessional and irresponsible in terms of the safety of troops on both sides."

"It may cause extremely dangerous consequences," Yang said. "No matter what provocative actions the U.S. takes, the Chinese military will take all necessary means to firmly protect sovereignty and security."

The U.S. conducted a similar operation in October. China said it warned that warship, the USS Lassen, as it came close to reefs claimed by China in contested waters.

Much of the South China Sea is subject to a series of territorial disputes between Asian nations. And near the Spratly Islands, which Beijing calls the Nansha islands, China has built an artificial island with air strips that analysts believe will be able to accommodate bombers.

#2  The "WILBUR" appears to had stayed just outside the 12-nm limits of China's claimed island, which IMO effectively means that SSSHHH ... CCCCC thanks once again to Anti-US US OWG Globalist POTUS Obama China will have any time or extra time it needs to complete any + all of its new Airstrips on the various Disputed-but-China-Occupied SCS islands [Spratlys + Paracels].

ALL THINGS EQUAL, IMO AGAIN THIS IS COVERTLY DEVOL INTO BEING ABOUT WHAT TRANSIT ROUTES WILL BE ALLOWED [Taxed?] BY MAINLAND CHINA = BEIJING FOR USE BY INTERNATIONAL NAVIES, COMMERCIAL CARRIERS THROUGH MAINLAND CHINA'S SOVEREIGN OFFSHORE/MARITIME PROVINCE FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE SCS.

Beijing is getting its way - again, China = Beijing is unlikely to respond just yet wid military force agz the US incursions unless the USN, etc. starts violating the 12-nm limits + transits closer to China's claimed islands.

FYI AS PER DEFENCE.PK/FORUMS + OTHER, ALL OF CHINA'S NEW AIRSTRIPS ARE EXPECTED TO COMPLETED BEFORE OR BY EARLY SUMMER 2016, AFTER WHICH BEIJING IS EXPECTED TO DEPLOY PLAAF + OTHER MIL ASSETS TO THE ISLANDS.

Iff the Bammer is truly serious about halting China's construction activities + upholding US-specific credibility to our Regional Allies in East Asia, then he must be willing to order the US Navy-DOD in closer than 12-nms to China's claimed islands EVEN IFF IT MEANS RISKING DE FACTO MILITARY CONFRONTATION WID BEIJING.

I remind again that, "short-of-war" or losing a Mil Conflict = OWG Globalist "Limited War" agz China, the best thing ANti-US US OWG Globalist POTUS Obama can do to unilaterally empower the rise of Co-Superpower China in East Asia-Pacific/WESTPAC is for the US NOT to live up or adhere to its Mutual Defense-Security treaty obligations or mandates wid Regional Allies, angering same + inducing or inspiring same to abandon the US + join Beijing's camp.

PRAY HARD + KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED BECAUSE THE BAMMER IS FORCING THE US [+ West] TO WALK ON A VERY THIN, DANGEROUS, + POTENTIALLY EXISTENTIAL TRIPWIRE(S) OR "SLIPPERY SLOPE(S)" IN THE NAME OF OWG-NWO + US-GLOBAL SOCIALIST ORDER.

Home Front: Culture Wars
This Week in Books 01/31/2016
Funny thing. I had planned on reviewing Washington's Crossing this week when I noticed, or rather remembered, I had sold it. My wife just walked in the door with a new copy, but it being an excellent book, and the time 15:30 (just finished at 19:30), I am going to continue with my backup plan of expanding upon Paul Revere's Ride and the origins of the armed citizen, a subject merely brushed upon last week.

Paul Revere's Ride
David Hackett Fischer
Oxford University Press, 1994

As the action of April 19th was concluding: (page 262)

Attack was the last thing in British minds. As the rear guard of Royal Marines passed over Charlestown Neck, Lord Percy looked at his watch and noted that the hour was past seven o'clock. His men were utterly exhausted. The grenadiers and light infantry had not slept for two days. Some had marched forty miles in twenty-one hours. Most had been under hostile fire for eight hours. The soldiers sank gratefully to the soggy ground on the heights above Charlestown, and fell instantly asleep. One British officer, unconscious of the irony, noted that their refuge was a place called Bunker Hill.

But how did hand picked professional soldiers whose units were known to put down civil insurrections get so soundly beaten, and would probably have been annihilated if it were not for a smart retreat led by Lord Percy and his reinforcements? (page 152)

The Provincial Congress recommended that one quarter of the militia should be organized in "minute companies," ready to march "at the shortest notice." Special groups of that sort had existed in New England since the mid 17th-century. In 1645, militia commanders throughout Massachusetts were ordered "to make choice of thirty soldiers of their companies in ye hundred, who shall be ready at half an hour's warning." On the eve of King Philip's War in 1675, the Suffolk and Middlesex regiments were required to "be ready to march on a moment's warning, to prevent such danger as may seem to threaten us." When the French wars began after 1689, and New England settlements were attacked by winter raiding parties, the Massachusetts legislature created special units of "snowshoe men," each to "provide himself with a good pair of snowshoes, one pair of moggisons (sic) and one hatchet," and to "hold themselves ready to march on the shortest warning." These were roving patrols of frontier guards. To support them other unites were ordered in 1711 and 1743 to be "in readiness at a minute's warning." During the French and Indian War, militia companies that mustered for the Crown Point campaign of 1756, called themselves "minutemen." When the Provincial Congress advised the founding of minute companies, it was building on a long tradition.

This is a nice transitional paragraph from the happenings of the alarm to the various histories of the militias. That is over one hundred years of self defense tradition before the colonials even considered creating their own nation. Able men of fighting age were expected to be in the local militia, with some militias fining members who missed practice. And again, the culture of self defense and self determination. (page 159)

Most town expected individual militiamen to supply their own weapons, and acted only to arm those who were unable to arm themselves. Newton's town meeting made special provision to arm its paupers at public expense: "Voted, that the Selectmen use their best discretion in providing fire-arms for the poor of the Town, who are unable to provide for themselves." Not many societies in the 18th century would have dared to distribute weapons to their proletariat. At the same time, the rich applied the New England habit of philanthropy to an unaccustomed cause. The town meeting in Newton also noted that "John Pigeon presented to the town two field pieces, which were accepted, and the thanks of the town given him."

These are not hunting parties. This is not in lieu of a professional army; indeed there were a number of Regulars in nearby Boston even before the relationship between colonials and king turn cold. Self defense and self determination are the backbone of the 2nd Amendment. But before there was a 2nd Amendment, there was General Gage. (page 264)

Gage later come to agree with Percy. He wrote to Dartmouth on June 25, The Rebels are not the despicable rabble too many have supposed them to be, and I find it owing to a military spirit encouraged amongst them for a few years past, joined with an uncommon degree of zeal and enthusiasm that they are otherwise...In all their wars against the French they never showed so much conduct, attention and perseverance as they do now."

It really is a fascinating book, beginning around The Boston Massacre, trekking through The Powder Alarm, The Portsmouth Alarm where Paul Revere made an even more amazing ride through a blizzard in a race with HMS Canceaux and the first shots fired between the colonials and the king's soldiers, The Salem Alarm, The British Expedition to Concord, and an excellent epilogue as well as reference section and fantastic pictures.

Economy
The Fed Is Freaked Out About the Financial Markets
Early in the new year, on Sunday, Jan. 3, Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer delivered a hawkish speech to the American Economic Association. Completely misreading the economy, which is woefully weak while inflation is virtually nil, Fischer strongly hinted that the Fed would be raising its target rate by a quarter of a percent every quarter for the next three years.

The next day Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 1.5 percent. In the week that followed, the broad index fell 6 percent. The week after that it fell over 2 percent. During that two-week period, the Dow Jones dropped 1,437 points.

The dollar went up. Oil plunged 21 percent. Raw material commodities dropped. And credit risk spreads in the high-yield junk market rose substantially.

Actually, it was a global event, as stock markets around the world plunged. Utter chaos.

This past week, the Fed retreated in its Federal Open Market Committee policy statement. For the first time in a long while, it didn't bother with a risk assessment between inflation and employment. The whole statement had a much softer tone. It reminded me of the prevent defense of Bill Parcells' old New York Giants.

Putting it more starkly, I'd say the Fed is completely freaked out by financial markets that are turning against it.

#4  "Utter chaos" - No. Not by a long shot. "Utter chaos" is when stores run out of stock of bare necessities because deliveries have stopped, the ATMs don't dispense cash anymore, when very few are even willing to accept cash, companies cannot secure even the shortest term loans to stay in business, or when prices for necessities rise 10% - a day. Or when an indefinite bank holiday is imposed and private ownership gold is outlawed, and the US Supreme Court ratifies it. Oh wait - that's already happened!

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian opposition demands release of prisoners before peace talks
Syrian opposition negotiators are demanding the release of thousands of detainees, including hundreds of women and children being held by Bashar al-Assad’s government, as a confidence-building measure before joining UN-brokered peace talks in Geneva.

Syrian and western sources said on Saturday that an initial list of 177 prisoners had already been given to Staffan de Mistura, the UN envoy trying to restart long-stalled negotiations between bitter enemies nearly five years into the conflict.

In total, the opposition is seeking the release of 3,000 people, including 700 held in Deraa, the largest city in southern Syria. “We are trying to push for women with newborn children,” said Farah Atassi, an opposition adviser. “That’s a priority. Then we will move to the next list.” In the past the government has pledged to free political detainees but in the end released only ordinary criminals.

The Geneva talks got under way on Friday with a meeting between De Mistura and a Syrian government delegation. The opposition announced later that it would also attend after a day of confusion and pressure – and receiving assurances from the US and UN that its demands for an end to airstrikes and improved humanitarian access would be taken seriously.

John Kerry, the US secretary of state, made the pledge to Riyadh Hijab, head of the opposition’s higher negotiations commission, after being accused of angering him by speaking bluntly in a stormy meeting last weekend. Adel al-Jubeir, the Saudi foreign minister, also helped to persuade the reluctant Syrians to take the plunge, diplomats said.

The anti-Assad rebels are pressing for immediate implementation of two clauses of UN resolution 2254, which underpins the latest phase of international diplomacy on Syria. These address humanitarian issues and call for an end to attacks on civilians.

The 17-strong opposition team flew to Geneva on Saturday on a private plane arranged by Saudi Arabia. The Syrians – representing both political and armed groups – spent four days in Riyadh debating whether to turn up, and were hailed by supporters on social media for standing firm and insisting that their conditions were met.

Formal sessions of what the UN is calling “proximity talks” – separate meetings between De Mistura and each Syrian faction – are scheduled to take place in the Palais des Nations on Monday, a full week after the negotiations were originally scheduled to begin. No direct contact is expected.

Diplomats say freeing prisoners is more easily achievable than ceasefires and allowing aid convoys into 15 locations defined as under siege across the country. Releases will also allow the opposition to demonstrate to sceptical supporters that it has concrete gains to show for taking part in the talks – and help prepare the ground for taking tougher decisions.

Kerry’s assurances to the Syrian opposition have not been made public, but they are believed to have included a promise to look at options for breaking sieges, most likely using air drops of food and other supplies. Overall, however, there is a growing mood of mistrust of the US, with European and Arab diplomats saying privately that they believe Washington is playing for time for the remaining months of Barack Obama’s term in the White House.

De Mistura also plans to convene four standing UN working groups, looking at humanitarian issues; security, including efforts to fight Isis; political and legal matters; and reconstruction. Diplomats describe an attempt to create a permanent forum for negotiations, avoiding direct confrontation and collapse if possible. “He is trying to produce a slower process that becomes a normal form of engagement with a bit of flexibility,” said one official.

Abu Sayyaf bombs karaoke bar in Jolo town
[Mindanao Examiner] Abu Sayyaf militants detonated a homemade bomb at a karaoke bar popular with soldiers in the southern Philippines. Officials said the explosion damaged the bar in Busbus village in Jolo town, but there were no one was harmed.

The attack late Thursday was carried out by two men who were seen entering the bar with a bag and left moments later before the blast.

The attack occurred despite a tight military and police security in the town following a foiled bombing of a police car parked by a busy area in Jolo. Two men on motorcycle left a bomb on the patrol car while it was parked in the village of Kasalamatan late Wednesday. A civilian, who spied the improvised bomb, reported it to the military which immediately radioed the police before it blew up. Commies kill three Philippine soldiers on patrol
[Gulf Today] Three Philippine soldiers were killed in a clash with New People's Army militants in Kalinga province in northern Luzon. The military said the slain troops were on patrol on Tuesday night when they clashed with the rebels in a mountain village.

In a separate development, NPA militants raided the office of the Del Monte Philippines Incorporated pineapple plantation and set fire to vehicles and equipment in Tanglad City, Misamis Oriental. Police chief Arnold Gaabucayan said no injuries were reported in the attack but the militants torched, among others, a bulldozer and a Hummer-type vehicle before fleeing.

Gaabucayan suspected the raid could be in retaliation for the refusal of Del Monte officials to pay monthly "protection money" to the NPA, which is the armed component of the Communist Party of the Philippines that has waging a Maoist-style insurgency for more than 45 years, the longest in Asia and the Pacific.

Kenya seeks air, maritime power for AMISOM
As African leaders are meeting in Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is seeking that African Union Mission in Somalia be strengthened with aerial and maritime capacity, Garowe Online reports.

Addressing the African Union Peace and Security Council ahead of Saturday 26th AU summit, President Kenyatta decried recent Al Shabaab attack on Kenyan-AMISOM base in southwestern Somalia. He said, his country has a far daunting task in rooting out terrorists trying to paralyze gains made by troop contributing countries in central and southern Somalia.

Among Kenyatta’s push are changing the rules of engagement and strengthened AMISOM power on land, air and the sea.

“The objective was to support the Federal Government of Somalia to recover the entire territory of Somalia by 2015, in time for the 2016 general elections. It is clear that this objective has not been achieved and it points to the need to vary the mandate of AMISOM,” said Kenyatta. “In order to achieve this strategic objective, AMISOM requires a reviewed mandate to enable its troops match the changing tactics,” the President added according to Citizen TV.

Praising inter-agency modalities, he said Kenyan security forces have foiled many terror attacks.

“In order to fight it therefore, all of us must continue the difficult and daunting task of identifying, separating, tracking and deterring the enemy wherever they may be found.”

Al Shabaab, Boko Haram and crisis in Burundi have taken a center stage in today’s agendas in Addis Ababa.

U.S.-led coalition bombs ISIS oil facility north Syria
QAMISHLI – U.S. and allies launched on Saturday several airstrikes on the ISIS-held northern Syrian province of Raqqa, targeting oil facilities held by the extremist group. One of the oil facilities held by the Islamic State’s (ISIS) jihadis was destroyed completely under the airstrikes, local activists reported.

“The coalition renewed its raids on Raqqa, targeting the ISIS tactical units and oil fields,” media activist Muhammad Jamous told ARA News in Raqqa.

“An oil refining facility in Raqqa suburb was destroyed due to intensified airstrikes on Saturday,” the source reported. Raqqa is deemed a de facto capital for the ISIS self-declared Caliphate.

Also on Saturday, the western coalition’s fighter jets hit a weapons storage center for ISIS in the vicinity of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in central Syria. The center, which reportedly contained a large deal of ammunition and explosive devices, blew up subsequent to the airstrikes.

Noteworthy, the coalition has recently intensified its raids on ISIS tactical units and resources, beside targeting command centers killing a number of leading members of the group.

KOBANE – Amid their continuous military campaign against Islamist groups in northern Syria, Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) attacked strongholds of the Nusra Front, Syria’s branch of al-Qaeda, in Aleppo and the Islamic State (ISIS) in Raqqa province, military sources reported on Saturday.

The ministry identified the bomber as Saudi citizen, 22-year old Abdulrahman Abdullah Suleiman al-Tuwaijiri, the state-owned Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said citing the statement.

The statement added that it would announce the name of the second suicide bomber later, who is currently being treated at hospital after being shot at by police during the Friday attack.

On Friday, Saudi authorities prevented two suicide bombers from entering Imam Rida Mosque in Mahasen neighborhood in al-Ahsa region.

Kosovar hacker appears in court to face terror charges
[RFE/RL] A Kosovar citizen accused of hacking the personal data of over a thousand U.S. military personnel and sending it to Daesh made his first public appearance in the United States on January 27. Ardit Ferizi appeared in court in Virginia to face terrorism charges after being extradited from Malaysia, where he was detained in October.

Court documents say the hacker broke into the server of an American online retailer and stole the military members' identifying information. The complaint says Ferizi provided the information to Daesh, including the British hacker Junaid Hussain, who bragged about having the information in an August 2015 tweet.

Twitter posts show that Ferizi also offered to create a computer program enabling Daesh to post propaganda that would "never get deleted."

UN finds more cases of child abuse by European troops in CAR

A UN team recently interviewed five girls and a boy who claimed their abusers were part of French and European Union military operations in the troubled African country, the office of Zeid Raad al-Hussein, the high commissioner for human rights, said.

The sexual abuse allegedly took place in 2014 in or near a camp for displaced people near M’Poko airport in CAR’s capital, Bangui, but only came to light in recent weeks in the latest in a string of similar allegations.

Pentagon won’t punish Petraeus any further
Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter has decided not to impose any further punishment on David H. Petraeus, the former CIA director and retired Army general who was forced to resign in a sex-and-secrets scandal in 2012.

In a brief letter sent Friday to the leaders of the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, the Pentagon reported that Carter had agreed with the Army’s recommendation not to discipline Petraeus.

“Given the Army review, Secretary Carter considers this matter closed,” Stephen C. Hedger, assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs, wrote in the three-sentence letter, obtained by The Washington Post. The letter did not elaborate.

The Pentagon letter was addressed to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), the chairman and top Democrat, respectively, of the Armed Services Committee.

Glenn Beck's media empire on the ropes?
In what knowledgeable observers say is a sign of increasing turmoil in Glenn Beck’s troubled media empire, Beck’s longtime mentor and corporate executive, Kraig Kitchin, has quit as CEO of The Blaze.

Kitchin’s replacement, Stewart Padveen, a digital startup entrepreneur who joined Beck’s company last summer, will be the fourth leader of The Blaze since late 2014.

Kitchin, 54, who took over operations of Beck’s conservative-leaning subscription digital and cable television enterprise last June—after two previous CEOs abruptly left in the space of six months—is resigning along with two other senior executives: Jeremy Price, director of advertising sales, and Liz Julis, director of marketing…. Several other key employees, including at least two senior producers based in The Blaze’s shrinking New York operation, are expected to follow them out the door.

A source close to the situation predicted a “mass exodus” from the New York studios, which are housed in a largely unoccupied 35,000 square-foot space at Midtown Manhattan’s Bryant Park, previously rented by Yahoo, under a 10-year lease costing Beck’s privately held company an estimated $2 million a year.
