Law Firm Behind Trump University Lawsuit Gave Big Money to the Clintons
[Law Newz] Donald Trump has undoubtedly made the class action lawsuit against Trump University a campaign issue. For the last several days, he has been on a tear against federal Judge Gonzolo Curiel who is overseeing one of the class action lawsuits against Trump University. In the lawsuit, former students claim that the University and Trump violated federal law by luring them to sign up with false promises and then defrauded them once they handed over their checks.
The judge is also a member of LaRaza...
LawNewz.com discovered that when it comes to politics, Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd, the law firm behind the class action lawsuit, is not exactly neutral either. Our analysis, using data first compiled by The Washington Post, found that Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd paid the Clintons a total of $675,000 in fees for speeches since 2009. Hillary Clinton gave a $225,000 speech at the law firm as recently as September 4, 2014. Bill Clinton also gave a speech for the same fee back in 2013, and another one in 2009 before the firm had been renamed (they used to be called Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins LLP). In fact, of the five law firms that paid for the Clintons to speak over the last few years, Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd paid out the most money.

#2  Taking money, leaving students in debt. So, what's difference between Trump's paper mill and hundreds of public and private universities and colleges across the nation? None.

#4  The real scandal is the way the government backs student loans the same as they did with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. They give massive amounts of money to students who would never be qualified by reputable banks based on the students' potential to repay.

Polling Trump, Polling Clinton
h/t Instapundit
"Who do you love?" asked Bo Diddley in song. Perhaps the more important question in this crazy election season is "Who do you hate?"

...As many people are likely to come to the polls this fall to vote against the candidate they dislike as to vote for a candidate they support

#1  Please correctly if I'm wrong, but iirc, Obama was ahead around or near double digits at this time four years ago, and then we saw a panic on the Left as it narrowed to a couple digits just before election day. If he's within a couple digits today and yet to let lose the fight that Trunks refused to engage in four years ago, this is going to be entertaining. Pass the popcorn.

Kissinger's lessons for Hillary
Hillary Clinton’s problem is that she isn’t as smart as Henry Kissinger. And I’m not talking about her performance as secretary of State (though I could be) but rather about how she got into her festering, possibly criminal mess with insecure emails and an unauthorized private server.

#1  As Austin Bay notes: “...She tried to hide her personal server system because its entire purpose was evasion — evading federal record retention laws that promote government accountability and transparency."

I'm more of the opinion that, at the time, she was evading White House monitoring.

The Grand Turk
Asia Time: Turkey's demographic winter and Erdogan's duplicity
by Spengler

When he talks about Turkey’s failing demographics, though, Erdogan is speaking from the heart. Turkey’s Kurdish citizens continue to have three or four children while ethnic Turks have fewer than two. By the early 2040s, most of Turkey’s young people will come from Kurdish-speaking homes. The Kurdish-majority Southeast inevitably will break away. Erdogan’s hapless battle against the inevitable motivates the sometimes bewildering twists and turns of Turkish policy.

A review of the recently-released 2015 population data shows that the demographic scissors between Kurds and Turks continues to widen. Despite Erdogan’s exhortations on behalf of Turkish fertility, the baby bust in Turkish-majority provinces continues while Kurds sustain one of the world’s highest birth rates. Even worse, the marriage rate outside of the Kurdish Southeast of the country has collapsed, portending even lower fertility in the future.

According to Turkstat, the official statistics agencies, the Turkish provinces with the lowest fertility rates all cluster in the north and northwest of the country, where women on average have only 1.5 children. The southeastern provinces show fertility rates ranging between 3.2 and 4.2 children per female.

As I reported in my 2011 book Why Civilizations Die (and Why Islam is Dying, Too), Muslim countries that achieve a high rate of adult literacy jump from infancy to senescence without passing through adulthood. Like their Iranian, Algerian and Tunisian counterparts, Turkish women reject the constraints of Muslim family life as soon as they obtain a high school education. The shock of sudden passage from traditional society into the modern world has produced the fastest-ever fall in fertility rates in the Muslim world.

Iran, whose fertility rate fell from 7 children per female in 1979 to less than 1.8 today, has the fastest-aging population of any country in the world. Turkey has an average total fertility rate of 2.18, or just at replacement, but the split between ethnic Turks and ethnic Kurds will make Turkey’s present geographic configuration untenable.

The Kurds’ courage and military prowess leave Turkey in a quandary. Any effective action against ISIS enhances the Kurds’ political standing and advances the day when they will have their own state including the northwest of Iraq and the southeast of Turkey, as well as the southwest corner of Iran and a large swath of northern Syria. But Turkey cannot abandon the NATO alliance, which stands as a guarantor of its territorial integrity. It has no choice but to play both sides, playing the public role of an alliance member while covertly sabotaging the effort to destroy ISIS.

That is the origin of the present refugee crisis.

PBS host Gwen Ifill lectures Elkhart, Indiana
[Gateway Pundit] Less than a minute into her town hall event with Barack Obama PBS host Gwen Ifill lectured Elkhart, Indiana for not giving the country’s worst economic president since the Great Depression more credit for the town’s recovery.
I blame the Winnebago disconnect.
Barely a minute into Wednesday’s PBS town hall event with President Barack Obama, PBS NewsHour co-host Gwen Ifill took a few digs at the hard working white people of Elkhart, Indiana where the event was being held for not giving Obama "any credit" for their unemployment drop to the point that she exclaimed: "What gives?"

The town hall, which was designed to have the President take questions from the audience, began with Ifill explaining that Wednesday’s visit to Elkhart by the President was his "fifth visit to the once and again R.V. Capital of the world, a small city where the unemployment rate hit 19.6 percent his first year in office, and now has dropped to about four percent."

Taking into no consideration things that the townspeople or local and state governments may have done to improve business, Ifill went right to wondering why "this White House isn’t get any credit for that turnaround."

#3  Hmmm. I recall that Elkhart had a sizeable KKK membership back in the day. Gwen wasn't necessarily on neutral ground.

I'm not going to let this one slip by. Just what are you implying about the good people of Elkhart today, ElziverKnaggs?

You see, racism was everywhere in this country back in the days of the KKK. We had it in the American South, in Elkhart, in New York, Chicago, Boston, DC, and in the West. It was everywhere. It was pervasive. You couldn't get away from it for a moment. Is that your point?

We don't have it everywhere today. People of Elkhart, the South, and elsewhere are a lot better about race relations. We aren't perfect by any means, but today you have people of every race working together, sharing neighborhoods, public accommodations and the vote. The only group in this country that is still obsessed with race are the progressive Democrats.

So I'm not sure, ElziverKnaggs: are you a troll? A moby? An idiot? Just maladroit? Or perhaps you're an unpaid volunteer for either the Clinton or Sanders campaign?

Why don't you clarify that for me in a new comment in this thread?

EgyptAir plane made 3 emergency landings in the 24 hours before it crashed
[Bus Insider] The EgyptAir plane that mysteriously disappeared in the Mediterranean on May 19 with 66 people on board made three emergency landings in the 24 hours before the crash, the French broadcaster France 3 reports. The report has yet to be confirmed by government or airspace authorities.

The plane used for the EgyptAir Flight 804 connecting Paris to Cairo reportedly had to turn around three times and perform emergency landings on each occasion while travelling among Eritrea, Egypt, Tunisia, and Paris.

Emergency signals indicated a problem on board shortly after takeoff each time, prompting the plane to turn around, France 3 reports.

A technical verification on the ground took place after each landing, but no problems were found and the plane continually took off again and continued on its route, according to the information obtained by France 3. The French newspaper Le Parisien also reported this information.

Took off again Nav sys crashed, landed in Alameda. RON #2. Took off, nav system failed at the 55% distance waypoint, did DR to BP ( glad island hadn't done the continental drift thingie).

As a bonus, the day after we landed in BP the big 1989 earthquake took out the Alameda hotel we were staying in.

So multiple emergency landings can happen.

#3  But EgyptAir ruled out a mechanical issue within the first minute or two and they would have nothing to hide, right?

Suggesting an explosion must be because of terrorists assumes nothing on board would otherwise explode which seems dubious when there is jet fuel and 3rd world maintenance involved.

And still no terrorists have claimed credit.

Afghanistan
Under U.S. Air Cover, Afghan Commandos Chase The Elusive Taliban
[NPR] The American Green Berets were seated around a long, plywood table at their base when they spotted the Taliban counterattack on their screens.

The burly Americans were working on computers, drinking coffee and munching on chips and peanut butter cookies. Their team leader answered an ever-ringing phone, giving his superiors updates on an Afghan commando mission in the mountains just north of Afghanistan's Kandahar Airfield.
Put the chips and cookies away and you'll have time to have someone PUSH operational updates. The phone may then stop ringing.
The Green Berets could see the progress of the mission on a massive screen on the wall -- live video sent by an American drone. The Afghan commandos had opened fire on the Taliban, and they had fired back. An American AH-64 Apache attack helicopter sliced down to shred the defenders. Many scattered.

Then, the American troops here spotted about two dozen men -- black-and-white figures on their monitors -- carrying rifles and machine guns, moving along a dry riverbed, parallel to the Afghan commandos.

The American soldiers discussed how to respond: Was there an armed drone available to release a Hellfire missile? Or an AC-130 Spooky gunship on hand, with its heavy artillery?
Fire Support planning is generally done prior to the operation. Just say'n.
But the Taliban answered the question on their own: when the men emerged from the woods, they had no weapons -- knowing that meant the Americans could not fire.

"Once we lose positive identification of the enemy, it is our policy not to strike, because our number-one concern is civilian casualties," said the Special Forces team leader. NPR was permitted to observe the operation under ground rules that included not identifying him by name.

#1  So, the area in the VIC of Kandahar Airfield is still not secure after fok'n how many years? Let me see, 2001 would be 15 years. I think we have a much larger problem in play here, but this is an NPR fluff piece, so I won't go into the details or discuss neighboring Pakistan.

#2  OK, the Americans won't fire on 'unarmed' Taliban - but what about the Afghan commandos they were supporting? Can't the GB direct the Afghans to them? And they wouldn't even need to worry about being counterattacked.

Placentophagy? Yes, she's definately nuts
[The Clarion-Ledger] Almost immediately after she found out she was pregnant, Brandon resident Jordan Thiering began preparing for her baby. She bought outfits and stocked up on cloth diapers.

She and husband Doug assembled baby furniture and decorated the nursery with the name they had chosen for their son; they would call him Roman, middle name to be determined. They packed a bag, ready for that moment they had to rush off to the hospital. In a multitude of ways, Thiering was prepared for her baby's arrival.

One thing she was not prepared for, however, was to go to court. At 33 weeks pregnant, Thiering had to get a court order giving her the rights to her placenta.

"I grew my baby, I grew my placenta," Thiering said. "There should be no one that can tell me what I can or can’t do with it."

Thiering said she was going over her birth plan with her OB-GYN in March when she mentioned she wanted to encapsulate her placenta. After a postpartum friend told Thiering she put her placenta in a smoothie, the mom-to-be began to look into the idea.

Why this Midwest town is thriving when so many aren't - opens to video
[USA Today] FAIRFIELD, Iowa -- Take a walk around this town's bustling square and you'll see an array of businesses that would rival some shopping malls.

On one corner sits a coffee shop that roasts its beans in house. Down the block is a store specializing in sustainable children's clothing and toys. Along another strip is a women's boutique, a Verizon store and a nutrition company.

The town's retail center also is home to a salon, a consignment store, a furniture store and an art gallery. Just off the square is a pet spa, a natural remedy store and a photography studio.

For those looking for a bite to eat: a Thai restaurant, an Indian cafe, an Italian spot and a joint peddling pizza and steak.

Judge Nap: Hillary on the ropes
[Wash Times] Late last week, the inspector general of the State Department completed a yearlong investigation into the use by Hillary Clinton of a private email server for all of her official government email as secretary of state. The investigation was launched when information technology officials at the State Department under Secretary of State John Kerry learned that Mrs. Clinton paid an aide to migrate her public and secret State Department email streams away from their secured government venues and onto her own, non-secure server, which was stored in her home.

The migration of the secret email stream most likely constituted the crime of espionage -- the failure to secure and preserve the secrecy of confidential, secret or top-secret materials.

The inspector general interviewed Mrs. Clinton’s three immediate predecessors -- Madeleine Albright, Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice -- and their former aides about their email practices. He learned that none of them used emails as extensively as Mrs. Clinton, none used a private server and, though Gen. Powell and Miss Rice occasionally replied to government emails using private accounts, none used a private account when dealing with state secrets.

With the Champ now actively involved in the 'Never Trump' campaign, a potential train wreck appears to be shaping up between the FBI and the DoJ.

#1  Not buying this.

No way all the players involved - the education industry, the IT industry, the entertainment industry, the banking/finance industry, and the public employment industry - walk away from the more than one billion they have invested in Hillary Clinton.

No way all the foreign money that poured into the Clinton Foundation in exchange for future favors simply gets put in a file and set on fire.

If I were a conspiracy guy, I'd say this is all a clever ruse to pose Hillary Clinton as the "comeback kid" in some near future.

Who will the Hildebeest blame, and who will be pushed to the breaking point this time ?
BLUF: [Wash Times] In interviewing Clinton White House aides and Foster’s friends and family, the FBI found that a week before Foster’s death, Hillary held a meeting at the White House with Foster and other top aides to discuss her proposed health care legislation.

Hillary violently disagreed with a legal objection Foster raised at the meeting and ridiculed him in front of his peers, former FBI agent Coy Copeland and former FBI supervisory agent Jim Clemente told me. Mr. Copeland was Mr. Starr’s senior investigator and read the reports of other agents working for Mr. Starr.

During the White House meeting, Hillary continued to humiliate Foster mercilessly, both former FBI agents say.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran, Syria, and Russia? What Ezekiel said.
[The Blaze] "The Hebrew prophet Ezekiel wrote 2,500 years ago that 'in the last days' of history, Russia and Iran will form a military alliance to attack Israel from the north," Rosenberg wrote. "Bible scholars refer to this eschatological conflict, described in Ezekiel 38-39, as the 'War of Gog & Magog' He added, "Are these sudden and dramatic moves by Moscow and Tehran...simply coincidental, or [do they] have prophetic implications?"

Rosenberg's question is at the center of the very debate surrounding Iran, Syria, and Russia and their perceived involvement in the end times--one that has attracted a great deal of attention both in Christian circles and in media over the years.

The military alliance between Russia and Iran was also discussed by Pastor Greg Laurie, who said that the "entrance of Russia . . . as an ally of Syria and Iran, and this alliance between Russia and Iran is a special interest in the Bible."

He called the current alignments between Russia and Iran particularly notable, though he said that it is important to differentiate between the details he's certain of and those that he cannot definitively speak to.

"I'm very careful when I teach Bible prophecy to not paint myself into a corner and say things that I can't be certain of," Laurie told me. "Do I know with 100 percent certainty that Gog is Russia? No, I do not."

US Fracking Poised For Comeback, OPEC Continues To Flounder
[Daily Caller] Energy experts believe if crude oil prices stay above $50 per barrel for long enough, American oil companies could make a huge comeback while OPEC countries continue to squabble over production freezes.

A CNBC survey of oil industry experts "found that most U.S. shale drilling is expected to return when oil rises to $60 or above" and 40 percent of respondents "expected most production to return when prices reach $50 to $60."

Forty-five percent said oil needed to be above $60 a barrel for a production boom, according to CNBC’s survey, but most experts agreed it’s very unlikely OPEC member states will agree to freeze oil production this week.

CNBC reported "73 percent of the strategists, traders and analysts found 10 percent or less chance that OPEC would come to an agreement on freezing production this week." OPEC members and Russia failed to agree to production cuts in April.

An Ammodor Is The Coolest New Product
[Daily Caller] Are you a cigar smoker? If you are, you know how disappointing it is to light up a dry cigar. A humidor is a must-own. But inexpensive ones don't really work that well and also just look cheap. What to do?

There's this new product called the Ammodor, and it's the coolest product you have never heard about until right now. An Ammodor is a so-called "tactical cigar humidor." What does that mean? Ammodors are made from legitimate U.S. military surplus metal ammunition cans. They are "combat tested humidors and are rugged enough to be tossed around during any outdoor adventure; while sexy enough to be the centerpiece of your office desk." Seriously awesome. And until June 6, they are on sale at Touch of Modern.

Austrian Refugee Center Fire was 'Arson Attack'
[An Nahar] Arsonists were most likely behind a huge blaze which burnt down a newly-built but still empty refugee center in northern Austria, police said on Wednesday.

The huge fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday in the village of Altenfelden and left only charred remains of the building.

No one was harmed in the blaze, which was battled by up to 200 firemen.

"We found two sources along the building's outer walls... where unknown suspects are thought to have started the fire," police said in a statement, adding that investigations were ongoing.

The alleged attack happened two weeks before 48 asylum-seekers were due to move in.

The Red Thingy, which operates the center, said it was "shocked."

"We will nevertheless carry out our duty to aid people looking for help and will seek out discussion with the regional authorities in the coming days to rebuild the center as soon as possible," Red Thingy president Walter Aichinger said.

The organization estimates the damages to be around 300,000 euros ($335,000).

"We have no indications at all that people in the village were at all unhappy," Red Thingy front man Stefan Neubauer told AFP.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Bad, indie writer, bad!
At least that is what Michael Kozlowski over at Good Ereader seems to be saying. In an article I found via The Passive Voice, the headline really does tell the story. “Indie Authors Are Responsible for the US eBook Decline.” Now, I won’t talk about how the headline is poorly formatted. Anyone with a modicum of journalistic training will be able to spot what is wrong. Instead, let’s take a look at the post and see if we agree with Kozlowski or with PG who said, “too much choice is a terrible problem. That’s why nobody buys anything from Amazon or reads anything on the web.”

Why are bookstore chains like Barnes and Noble enjoying a robust increase in book sales? I think the main reason is because they only stock physical books by new authors that the publisher is really hyping and perennial bestsellers by recognizable authors. Simply put, it is far easier to discover a great book in a bookstore, than try and find one online. So why are digital sales truly down? The answer is too many e-books being self-published by indie authors.

Pardon me while I laugh for a bit. Kozlowski doesn’t seem to recognize the problem with his own statement. Bookstores stock only new authors publishers are “really hyping”. Hmm. What about those new authors who aren’t receiving all the hype? They are out there. Or is Kozlowski so out of touch that he really believes that publishers give that sort of hype to every new author they sign?

Or how about the assertion that they only other books being stocked are those by perennial bestsellers? I guess that means I could walk into my local B&N and check every author in stock and find them to be as he said. A best seller or hyped newcomer. Sorry, but no. There are still some midlisters there. Yes, the number is fewer but they are still there. There will also be — gasp — classics and nonfiction titles that aren’t “bestsellers”. But that wouldn’t fit Kozlowski’s either or scenario.

Protest over rape, murder of Hindu girl
[DAWN] HYDERABAD: Civil society activists on Tuesday held a protest demonstration against the killing of a 16-year-old woman after alleged sexual assault on her in Khipro town of Sanghar district a day earlier.

Carrying placards inscribed with slogans for justice, they held the demonstration outside the local press club.

Speaking to them, Advocate Bhagchand Bheel, Kirshna Kumari, Mukesh Meghwar and others said that the victim member of the Bheel community had gone into the farmland in Kiria Colony of Khipro town on Monday where she was sexually assaulted and then rubbed out.

They accused a young man, said to be the son of a police constable, of being the culprit. They said that the suspect was detained following registration of a case at the Khipro cop shoppe but police were weakened the case under pressure to ensure his release. They demanded justice and exemplary punishment to the culprit.

US drone strikes regrettable, must stop: COAS
[DAWN] Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif
..Pak chief of army staff, meaning he pulls the strings on the Nawaz Sharif puppet to make it dance and sing and not do much at all....
said on Wednesday US drone strikes are regrettable and must stop as they are a threat to the illusory sovereignty and security of the country.

Speaking informally to the media at a reception after attending President Mamnoon Hussain’s address to a joint session of Parliament, the chief added that the China-Pakistain Economic Corridor is a national project and must be completed at any cost.

"The security situation in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
is improving," said the army chief.

The COAS further said border management with Afghanistan is also improving, and now the responsibility lies with Aghanistan as there are fewer checkposts on the other side.

Pro-Russian Rebels Claim Fresh Ukraine Assault
[An Nahar] Ukraine's pro-Russian eastern gunnies on Wednesday accused Kiev's soldiers of launching a new blitz near a prized but long-obliterated airport in the separatists' de facto capital of Donetsk.

The claim appears to fit with a mounting corpse count reported by the pro-Western leadership in Kiev and foreign monitors from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The gunnies seized the Donetsk airport at a heavy cost in January 2015.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko soon vowed to win back the key trophy of the 25-month war -- a pledge that clashed with Washington's efforts to bring peace to the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
's backyard.

A rebel fighter who identified himself by the nom de guerre Moskva (Moscow) said the Ukrainian assault began from positions just north of Donetsk last Saturday.

"The entire (airport) terminal was hit by air defense guns," the krazed killer told AFP.

These heavy weapons were meant to have been withdrawn from the frontline dividing rebel-run regions from the rest of Ukraine within days of the signing of a February 2015 truce.

That ceasefire helped contain the worst violence but failed to bring a halt to one of Europe's bloodiest conflicts since the 1990s Balkans wars.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian rebels prepare offensive to capture Manbij
[ARA News] KOBANE – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday launched an operation to capture Manbij and it’s countryside from the extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS). The newly established city council of Manbij released a statement on Wednesday suggesting that the liberation is near.

“To our resistant people in the city of Manbij, we and by the name of the city council of Manbij and its countryside, we appeal to our people inside the city who are fleeing from the city, and we say to you: you are the sons of this country, don’t leave your city, the mercenaries [ISIS] that came from all over the world should leave,” said the council, which was established in early April under the sponsorship of the SDF.

“We are coming to you and liberation is near, our hero’s [SDF] are very nearby Manbij to liberate our people from the persecution of the mercenary groups and we promise you that we will turn the black page that we lived for years, and God willing we build hand by hand the good future of our city,” the statement said.

Speaking to ARA News, Washington-based Middle East researcher at the Centre for a New American Security Nicholas Heras said: “The messaging in this statement is a clear rebuttal to ISIS’ narrative that the SDF army that is gathering to seize Manbij is a bloodthirsty, godless PKK occupation force.”

“The Manbij council’s statement wants to reassure the local population that it has a plan in place that will be able to distinguish the real occupiers, i.e. ISIS, from the true local residents of Manbij who are suffering under ISIS,” he said.

“The messaging is positive and focuses on building a better future after ISIS, and it seeks to convince the local population that the Manbij council is competent and has a strategy in place to govern effectively post-ISIS,” Heras added.

A spokesman for the US-led coalition, which backs the SDF in its war on ISIS, told ARA News in an earlier interview that for the US “it’s critical that the ISIS-held Manbij pocket of 98-kilometers” is seized from the radical group.

“As to why the Manbij pocket is important, it represents a major border crossing point where foreign fighters can cross into Syria from Turkey,” said Colonel Christopher Garver, a spokesperson for the US-led coalition against the Islamic State.

Afghanistan
Concerns Raised Over Lack of Coordination Among Afghan Forces
Security forces have raised concerns over the lack of coordination among the different security branches in relation to the ongoing war.

This comes amid heightened battles in various parts of the country.

Some security officers have said there is no coordination between the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

Parliamentarians have also expressed the same concerns.

"War strategy toward Taliban is a failed strategy," said Fawzia Kofi, an MP from Badakhshan.

But the Ministry of Defense (MoD) rejects these claims and said problems sometimes lie with the ground forces.

"All the plans which take place in the ministry are in full coordination and the Interior minister, NDS and even local organizations participate," MoD spokesman Dawlat Waziri said.

"In some areas where the level of coordination is less and the presence of ANA are less or does not exist at all, in those areas there might be problems," said MoI spokesman Sediq Sediqqi.

Meanwhile the Presidential Palace said that there had been such issues in the past but that these have now been resolved.

"Every day the coordination among civilian sectors and military sectors increases," a deputy presidential spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazawi said.

The concerns come amid fierce fighting in some areas, especially in Helmand which has been the scene of heavy offensives by the Taliban over the past few days.

Experts have however called for more assistance from foreign troops and for the international community to ramp up efforts to equip the national army.

Rebel Militias Transform Health Centres into Military Barracks
Since their arrival in Taiz a year ago, rebel militias have been transforming government health facilities in the city into military barracks. Their latest target was the centre for cancer patients in Taiz at a time when more than 643 people suffering from cancer in the town do not have proper access to medicine because the rebel militias have besieged all of the town’s ports and are not allowing the admittance of food supplies, medicine and medical aid.

Houthi militias and forces loyal to the deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh bombarded positions of the army and the Popular Resistance on various fronts of fighting in the governorate of Taiz. Residential neighbourhoods, villages and rural areas of the province were shelled badly.

Zaid Al-Saalami, a journalist and political activist and a facilitator for the government delegation in Kuwait told Asharq Al-Awsat that “the continuation of military actions and the siege of Taiz by Houthi and Saleh militias indicates that these militias do not believe in peace and are not serious about it as a strategic option. Rather, they are using it as a cover to rearrange their ranks … and carry out more killings”.

Iraq
Kurds repel ISIS attack in Wane district
[ARA News] DUHOK – Kurdish forces of the Peshmerga on Wednesday repelled an offensive by militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) near the Wane district in the northern countryside of Mosul, military sources reported.

“Two suicide bombers from ISIS have tried to infiltrate into a security zone for the Peshmerga in the Kafraj village of Wane district north of Mosul. The suicide bombers were trying to detonate their explosive belts among the Peshmergas, but our fighters at the Kafraj security checkpoint shot them dead before they reach their target,” Peshmerga officer Izzadin Wanki told ARA News.

The official said that another group of ISIS fighters were heading to the Wane area coming from Mosul city, in a bid to storm Peshmerga headquarters there.

“The terror group had planned the suicide bombings to open the road for its jihadi fighters to storm the Peshmerga positions. However, fierce clashes took place and continued until Wednesday midnight. The group was eventually forced to withdraw after losing over ten fighters,” Wanki told ARA News.

Two Peshmerga fighters were reported dead and five others injured in Wednesday’s clashes.

More than 250 families still live in the Kafraj village north of Mosul, which has been recently regained by the Kurdish Peshmerga from ISIS.

Speaking to ARA News, head of Nineveh media centre Raafat al-Zarari said that civilians in Kafraj and other villages of Mosul countryside are stranded within increasingly dangerous zones amid continues clashes between ISIS on the one hand and the Kurdish Peshmerga and Iraqi government forces on the other hand.

“Many civilians who had escaped Mosul city are now stranded in those villages, unable to move due to the mounting violence in the area,” Zarari said.

ISIS executes 6 cigarette vendors in Mosul
No Big Tobacco lawsuits for you
[ARA News] ERBIL – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Wednesday executed six men in the city of Mosul in Iraq’s northwestern Nineveh province for selling cigarettes, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

Smoking or selling cigarettes has been for years banned under the rule of the ISIS self-declared Caliphate in areas under the group’s control in Iraq and Syria. Those who violate ISIS regulations are exposed to brutal punishment, mostly public execution.

“The ISIS-led Islamic Police of Hisba arrested six men in Mosul on charges of selling cigarettes. They were then referred to the Sharia Court which ordered their immediate execution on Wednesday on charges of violating the rules imposed by their alleged Caliphate,” media activist Abdullah al-Malla told ARA News in Mosul.

The six men were publicly executed by firing squad in the Bursa square in central Mosul, eyewitnesses told ARA News.

“Hundreds of people witnessed the brutal execution. The victim’s corpses were then moved to the al-Tib al-Adli hospital in Mosul,” the source reported.

Israel hosts first-ever anti-BDS conference at UN
[IsraelTimes] UNITED NATIONS ‐ More than 2,000 people attended on Tuesday the first-ever conference at the UN General Assembly aimed at combating the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement, the largest gathering to date focused on battling the attempt to pressure Israel over its perceived ill-treatment of the Paleostinians.

Danon said the impetus of the conference came after the UN Human Rights Council in March voted to create a "blacklist" of companies operating in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, a motion that passed with 32 countries voting in favor, and none against.
Students, activists, dignitaries legal professionals and representatives of Jewish organizations took part in the "Building Bridges, Not Boycotts" day-long summit, a partnership between Israel’s Mission to the UN and a dozen pro-Israel organizations including the World Jewish Congress, the Anti-Defamation League, the Zionist Organization of America, StandWithUs, B’nai B’rith International, Hillel and CAMERA.

Among those who addressed the participants in the General Assembly were Justice Elyakim Rubinstein, Vice President of the Israeli Supreme Court, Jay Sekulow, Chief Legal Counsel of the American Center for Law, and Ronald Lauder, President of the World Jewish Congress. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the opening session via video.

Ukraine Detains 'Two IS Fighters' Headed for Europe
[AnNahar] Ukraine said on Wednesday it had detained two Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters from Syria who were trying to cross into western Europe in order to stage new attacks.

The SBU national security service said the cell was uncovered in Ukraine's second-largest city of Kharkiv -- an industrial hub controlled by Kiev throughout the ex-Soviet republic's 25-month separatist war.

"The Kharkiv national security service of Ukraine has uncovered an attempt to send supporters of the Islamic State international terrorist organization from Syria by transit through Ukraine to western European states," the SBU said in a statement.

"The organizer of this illegal transfer was a citizen of a neighboring country who is living unlawfully in Ukraine and is suspected by law enforcement officials of possible involvement in terrorist activity," SBU said.

A senior source told AFP on condition of anonymity that the suspect assisting the IS was a Russian national.

"Two of the Islamic State supporters detained in Kharkiv were Syrian nationals," SBU spokeswoman Olena Gitlyanska to AFP by telephone.

Ukraine's UNIAN news agency said the arrests were made at the end of last week.

It was not immediately clear which western European countries the IS members intended to attack.

- An IS 'transit point' -
The security service has reported the detention or expulsion of more than 30 Islamic State supporters from Ukraine since March.

SBU chief Vasyl Grytsak said on March 23 that 19 of the 25 IS suspects detained in a series of security sweeps were Russian nationals.

"IS members and supporters freely move across Russia and other post-Soviet states," the Interfax-Ukraine news agency quoted Grytsak as saying at the time.

"They use Ukraine as a transit point," Grytsak added.

Russia's north Caucasus leaders and its neighbors in Central Asian have been clamping down on Islamists -- some of them linked to Afghanistan -- for years.

Over 100 Taliban Killed In Helmand Clashes
[ToloNews] Over 100 insurgents have been killed and 37 injured in clashes in the past three days in Helmand province, officials confirmed Wednesday.

Local officials said heavy clashes are still ongoing in parts of the province.

The provincial governor, Hayatullah Hayat, has however assured the people that the capital city Lashkargah will not collapse to the Taliban. According to him, security forces have cleared parts of the province of insurgents in their operations.

"In the past 72 hours, 180 insurgents were killed, 37 were injured and we have tried to prevent civilian casualties during operations," he said.

Meanwhile Helmand police said security forces are advancing against the insurgents and positive results are being seen.

Esmatullah Dawlatzai, regional police commander, said: "In this operation, we have cleared a number of villages of insurgents and we are moving forward. The Taliban insurgents are trying to hold on to their strongholds but are facing a fierce response from security forces."

Mohammad Karim Atal, head of the provincial council, has warned that if government neglects the situation, the province could collapse to the Taliban.

"If government and security forces fail to take action, Helmand could fall to the Taliban so we call on security forces to continue their operations and clear the province of insurgents."

Security forces have not however provided details on troop casualties during the operations.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said "Yesterday evening, Afghan National Police and Afghan National Army conducted a joint security operation to clear some of the areas from turbans and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan."

"The operation was conducted in Char Kocha Darbar village, Greshk District of southern Helmand province, as a result eight armed Taliban were killed and 11 other armed Taliban were arrested including two key commanders of armed Taliban named Mullah Janan and Mullah Ghami," a statement by MoI said.

The statement further added that the clearance operation still continues against armed Taliban in mentioned area.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as the Afghan Special Forces have been deployed to southern Helmand province amid intensifying festivities between the Taliban Lions of Islam and Afghan cops.

The Talibs launched coordinated attacks in Nad-e-Ali and Nahr-e-Saraj districts, erupting heavy festivities and at least 11 coppers bit the dust during the shootout.

Jihadist's ICC Trial for Timbuktu Attacks to Open in August
[An Nahar] A Malian jihadist will go on trial in August, set to admit to an attack on the World Heritage site of Timbuktu which triggered a global outcry, the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
said Wednesday.

Ahmad Al Faqi Al Mahdi's trial starting August 22 is likely to last a few days and the tribunal hopes "to complete the trial in a single week," The Hague-base court said in a statement.

Mahdi has made clear "his wish to plead guilty" to a single charge of jointly ordering or carrying out in 2012 the destruction of nine mausoleums and a section of Timbuktu's famous Sidi Yahia mosque which dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries, the ICC added.

It will be the first time that an accused has pleaded guilty before the ICC, which was set up in 2002 to try the world's worst crimes.
He doesn't want to spend the rest of his life shuttling between a jail cell and that courtroom, listening to legal wrangling that will never, ever end until he dies. Prison will be considerably less unpleasant, and in fairness, he did do it.
Correction at 10:40 a.m. ET: it seems trials can continue after death, as well.
It is also the first case before the tribunal to arise out of recent conflict in Mali and to involve an Islamic jihadist.

Mahdi, who is aged around 40, said he was "a Muslim who believes in justice," his defense lawyer Mohammed Aouini told a hearing last week.

"He wants to be truthful to himself and he wants to admit the acts that he has committed. And he wants to ask at the same time for pardon from the people of Timbuktu and the Malian people," Aouini said.

"He regrets all the actions that he has committed."

ICC prosecutors say Mahdi was a leader of Ansar Dine, a mainly Tuareg group that controlled areas of Mali's northern desert together with Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and a third local group in early 2012.

Al-Qaida Claims Attack that Killed 4 in Mali's North
[An Nahar] Al-Qaeda's North African branch has claimed attacks in northern Mali that killed a Chinese U.N. peacekeeper and three civilians, the U.S.-based monitoring group SITE said Wednesday.

The attacks on Tuesday come days after five U.N. peacekeepers were killed in an ambush in central Mali, as concern grows over the future of the U.N.'s deadliest active mission.

"Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) reported that its al-Murabitoun battalion engaged in a clash with 'Crusader occupation forces'," referring to the U.N. mission in Mali, SITE said, adding that the jihadists called it an "epic battle".

AQIM said in a statement its fighters were "thrashing" the enemy.

Al-Murabitoun, led by one-eyed Algerian turban Mokhtar Belmokhtar, has grabbed credit for several spectacular and bloody attacks in sub-Saharan Africa.

One attack on a U.N. camp in the northern town of Gao on Tuesday killed a peacekeeper and seriously maimed three others, while a second armed attack on a U.N. de-mining unit killed two security guards and an international expert, the U.N. mission known by the acronym MINUSMA said.

At least 65 peacekeepers with the mission have been killed while on active service, while another four have died in "friendly fire" incidents, U.N. figures show.

The students' parents complained to the Government High School Gurmani in Muzaffargarh district, whose head said "the 40-year-old teacher had been suspended after an inquiry".

But four days after the original complaint, the parents went to police to accuse Ahmed of blasphemy, according to local authorities. The school said no mention of blasphemy had been made before the police complaint.

Following the complaint by Bilal, father of the sixth-grade students, police have registered an FIR at Mehmoodkot cop shoppe.

DPO Muzaffargarh Owais Malik, while talking to Dawn, said "we have registered the case to save his life".

Six killed as Taliban bombers raid Afghan courthouse
[DAWN] GHAZNI: Taliban jacket wallahs wearing police uniforms raided a courthouse in the eastern Afghan city of Ghazni Wednesday, killing six people in what they said was Dire Revenge for last month's execution of Taliban-linked prisoners.

The assault comes a day after the Taliban killed 10 bus passengers and kidnapped dozens of others in northern Kunduz province, as the bandidos Lion of Islams step up their annual spring offensive after naming a new leader.

"Four attackers entered the court compound after killing the guard," provincial police chief Aminullah Amarkhail told AFP.

"One of the attackers detonated his boom jacket inside the compound and the three others were bumped off by police."

The interior ministry said five civilians and one policeman were killed in the 30-minute assault, which left bloodied corpses littered around the complex.

The Taliban said the attack was in retaliation for the execution of six Taliban-linked inmates in early May, which were approved as part of President Ashraf Ghani

Signals Detected from EgyptAir Black Box
[An Nahar] A French navy vessel equipped with deep-water listening devices has detected signals from one of the black boxes of the EgyptAir plane that crashed in the Mediterranean, Sherlocks said Wednesday.

The flight recorders could contain crucial information to help solve the mystery of why the Airbus A320 plunged into the sea with 66 people on board en route from Gay Paree to Cairo on May 19.

But it is expected to be at least another week before the black boxes can be recovered from the seabed by an underwater robot.

Venezuela's Maduro rooting for 'revolutionary friend' Sanders in U.S. campaign
[REUTERS] Venezuela's embattled president, Nicolas Maduro, said on Tuesday night he supported Bernie Sanders
...The only openly Socialist member of the U.S. Senate. Sanders was Representative-for-Life from Vermont until moving to the Senate for the rest of his life in 2006, assuming the seat vacated by Jim Jeffords...
in the U.S. presidential race, adding that the candidate, who describes himself as a democratic socialist, would win if the vote were "free."

Maduro, a socialist who sees himself as the political heir to his predecessor, Hugo Chavez, has long railed against the United States, blaming it for Venezuela's economic crisis and accusing Washington of attempting to topple him.

"Bernie Sanders, our revolutionary friend, ought to win in the United States," Maduro said during an hours-long televised broadcast.

"If the elections were free ... Bernie Sanders would be president of the United States," he said, criticizing the U.S. Electoral College system as unrepresentative of popular sentiment.

Bezos thinks we need to build industrial zones in space in order to save Earth
[RECODE.NET] Elon Musk wants us to build human colonies on Mars. Jeff Bezos has a slightly more measured take.

Onstage at the Code Conference on Tuesday, the Amazon founder and CEO said that we have to start bringing parts of the industrial economy to space in order "to save Earth."

"Let me assure you, this is the best planet. We need to protect it, and the way we will is by going out into space," he told Recode Editor at large Walt Mossberg. "You don't want to live in a retrograde world where we have to freeze population growth."

Bezos says tasks that require lots of energy shouldn't be handled on Earth. Instead, we should perform them in space, and that will happen within the next few hundred years.

"Energy is limited here. In at least a few hundred years ... all of our heavy industry will be moved off-planet," Bezos added. "Earth will be zoned residential and light industrial. You shouldn't be doing heavy energy on earth. We can build gigantic chip factories in space."

#1  We need both Industrial Zones + Colonies, etc. aka Space Markets, in order to help justify space travel, i.e. routine Exploration + Colonization. NO USE TO BUILD FLYING CARS + SPACE PLANES, ETC. WID NO MISSION, NO PURPOSE, NO ONE + NO WHERE IN SPACE TO GO.

"IFF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME", CORRECT!?

#2  Well, yes. Apply 3% annual growth (and hence energy consumption) starting from our current 12 and bit TW, and see how long it takes before we're using the equivalent of all the solar energy that hits the planet... about 325 years. If we do whatever we do earthside, all that waste heat has to go somewhere, unless we've found a way to repeal the laws of thermodynamics.
Of course if we are doing 15,000 times as much stuff in the 2340s, well, I don't know where I'm going to put it. My spare room is already full.

#7  It's not really relevant that it goes into space. Sure it does, but we reach a new thermal equilibrium. To pick some round numbers, if in the year 2400, after 384 years of ~3% growth, we're somehow using 1,000,00 TW then this is the equivalent of 6 times current solar insolation - even if the entire planet is encased in solar panels, we'd still be generating the equivalent of another 5 suns beating down on us with our fusion reactors or whatever. The average surface temperature of the planet would be about 155 Celsius.

Man who moved LHC against JuD ‘Shariah court’ kidnapped, harassed
[DAWN] LAHORE: A property dealer who had been pursuing litigation in the Lahore High Court against a religious organization’s self-styled ’Shariat Court’ was briefly kidnapped, intoxicated and threatened by two faceless myrmidons on his way to the court on Tuesday.

"I was heading to the high court on my cycle of violence when two bearded men intercepted me near Samanabad’s first roundabout. One of them took control of the bike, while the other sat behind me before heading towards Miani Sahib graveyard," Khalid Saeed told this scribe in a weak voice, lying on a bed of Services Hospital’s emergency ward, with blood marks on his clothes.

A ’Shariat Court’ established by Jamatud Dawa (JuD) had summoned Mr Saeed on the ’complaint’ of his former partner in a property business, alleging misappropriation of his investment. Saeed had filed a writ petition in the LHC against the summons issued to him by the JuD ’court’.

The court had heard the petition and directed provincial home secretary to look into the matter and decide it strictly in accordance with law after hearing version of the petitioner.

Mr Saeed filed an intra-court appeal against the order that was fixed for hearing before a division bench on Tuesday.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
his counsel Advocate Maqbool Sheikh sought a short adjournment from the bench due to the incident.

Mr Saeed said the kidnappers forced him to drink a glass of juice before throwing him near the Ghazi Ilamuddin’s shrine in semi-conscious state.

"I could only called a friend for help before passing out," Mr Saeed said, adding the duo kept threatening him of dire consequences if he did not withdraw the cases and reconcile the matter.

He was later shifted to the Services Hospital where doctors treated him in emergency ward. "We have washed his (Saeed’s) stomach and sent the samples of the retrieved fluid to laboratory for a detailed examination," a doctor in the emergency ward said.

Personnel from the police-post at the hospital visited the victim and reported the incident to cop shoppe concerned.

Later a sub-inspector from Lyyton Road cop shoppe visited Saeed at the hospital and recorded his statement. He told the victim that the first information report (FIR) of the incident would be lodged after issuance of laboratory report of the sample.

Lahore DIG (operations) Dr Haider Ashraf said he was not aware of the incident yet and sought time for his official response. Later calls made to his mobile phone remained unanswered.

The Qazi (judge) of "Dar-ul-Qaza Sharia" established by the religious organization had summoned Mr Saeed to it’s headquarters at Chauburji to defend himself against the allegations leveled in the complaint. However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
the property dealer never obeyed the ’order’ and instead approached the LHC for remedy.

The organization had denied establishing any court, saying it offered arbitration only and resolved disputes in the light of Shariah.

It argues that offering arbitration to disputing parties was not illegal.

Crimean Tatars Go on Trial for Joining Islamist 'Terrorist' Group
[An Nahar] A military court in southern Russia on Wednesday held the first full hearing in the trial of four Crimean Tatars accused of joining a radical Islamist group.

Armed officers from Russia's FSB security service detained the men in raids on homes in the Crimean town of Bakhchysaray on May 12.

The Russian authorities have cracked down on the Crimean Tatars since annexing the Black Sea peninsula in 2014 in a move opposed by the most of the indigenous Muslim community who were deported to the region under Stalin.

The investigation found "all four of the defendants took part in the activities of the terrorist organization Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
until they were detained by FSB (security service) officers," the court said in a statement.

Hizbut Tahrir (Party of Liberation) seeks to establish a pan-Islamic state called a caliphate. The group is not illegal in Ukraine, but has been banned in Russia since 2003.

One of the men faces up to 20 years in jail as the organiser of a "terrorist cell", while the others could serve 10 years as participants.

At the hearing in the city of Rostov-on-Don, the men pleaded their innocence, lawyer Oksana Zheleznyak told AFP.

"Our defendants do not acknowledge guilt in the crimes they are accused of," she said.

The men "distributed propaganda among the public and incited the populace to take part in the group's activities," court spokeswoman Alyona Katkalo told AFP.

UC-Irvine College Republicans are planning to distribute 100 infant pacifiers at a school-sanctioned “safe zone training” event taking place just hours before the Yiannopoulos event, UC-Irvine College Republicans said in a press release.

The Gerber Baby pacifiers will include an attached label with the caption, “I survived! Milo tour 2016.”

UC-Irvine Republican Club president, Ariana Rowlands told the Orange County Register she fears for her fellow students who seem “dominated” by political correctness and often only hear the left’s side of the story.

Georgia ACLU Director Quits After Daughters’ Bathroom Ordeal
An interim director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a major proponent of laws protecting gender identity, has resigned after her daughters were frightened by several transgendered men who came into the ladies room they were using at the time.

Although the mainstream media has utterly ignored this story, LifeSiteNews and a few other outlets are reporting on the resignation of Maya Dillard Smith, interim director of the Georgia chapter of the ACLU, over the organization’s involvement in the controversial transgender bathroom debate.

“I have shared my personal experience of having taken my elementary school age daughters into a women’s restroom when shortly after three transgender young adults, over six feet [tall] with deep voices, entered,” Dillard Smith said.

“My children were visibly frightened, concerned about their safety and left asking lots of questions for which I, like many parents, was ill-prepared to answer,” she continued.

In a statement, she said that the ACLU has become “a special interest organization that promotes not all, but certain progressive rights.”

The “hierarchy of rights” the ACLU chooses to defend or ignore, she wrote, is “based on who is funding the organization’s lobbying activities.” She did not elaborate further.

Dillard Smith, who describes herself as “progressive” and “unapologetically black” says she just can’t go along with the ACLU’s transgender legal agenda which includes suing North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory for signed a law requiring individuals to use the restroom that corresponds to their biological sex.

Dillard Smith says that the ACLU’s opposition to the bill, which essentially leaves restroom policy up to business owners, proves that her legal philosophy and that of the ACLU no longer align.

“I found myself principally and philosophically unaligned with the organization,” Dillard Smith said. “I believe there are solutions that can provide accommodations for transgender people and balance the need to ensure women and girls are safe from those who might have malicious intent,” she said.

In response, Dillard Smith started a new website, Finding Middle Ground, which is providing the public with a “safe space” to share their views of the transgender bathroom issue without fear of being called a bigot or hater.

Thus far, the ACLU has made no comment about Dillard Smith’s departure and has merely posted a job announcement to replace her.

Mobile, AL math teacher urbanizes math exam
[Mail] An Alabama middle school teacher has been placed on administrative leave after handing out a 10-question math quiz filled with references to drugs, violence and prostitutes to her eighth grade class.
This is a joke that's been around for 30 years. Snopes sez
"The Internet humor piece variously entitled "The L.A. Math Proficiency Test" or "The City of Los Angeles High School Math Proficiency Exam" has been part of online lore since at least 1993, and some of our readers recall having seen photocopied versions of it as far back as the mid-1980s... Obvious humor or not, the "test" has landed a number of educators into trouble over the years. The Canadian National Post reported that a teacher at the Juniper School in Thompson, Manitoba, was suspended from her duties in June 2002 for distributing this test to students."
Maybe this one is true, but it seems like we've seen the same story before. The Mail might have bitten on an Onion, if y'know what I mean.

Joanne Bolser was suspended after one of her language arts students at Burns Middle School in Mobile took a picture of the quiz and sent it to his mom, according to WPMI. Bolser is a longtime educator who is set to retire this year.

One of the questions in the quiz, known online as the 'LA Math Proficiency Test', refers to 'Tyrone' who 'knocked up four girls in the gang'.

'There are 20 girls in his gang,' the question continues. 'What is the exact percentage of girls Tyrone knocked up?'

Another references a drug dealer named Leroy, who 'sells an 8 ball to Antonio for $320 and 2 grams to Juan for $85 per gram'.

'What is the street value of the rest of his hold?' it then asks.

There are also references to 'Ramon' and his frequent 'drive-by shootings', 'Pedro' serving six years for murder, Desmond and his stolen BMW and Corvette cars, and Dwayne - who 'pimps 3 ho's'.

'If the price is $85 per trick, how many tricks per day must each ho turn to support Dwayne's $800 per day crack habit,' the question then asks.

Erica Hall, the mother who received a picture of the test from her son on Friday, said she couldn't believe it when she saw the questions.

Taliban karouse through Kunduz
Taliban Behead Two Kunduz Bus Passengers

[ToloNews] Armed Taliban insurgents on Wednesday beheaded two passengers and left their bodies next to the road in Kunduz, officials said.

Military officials said that security forces are trying to release the remaining hostages.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Taliban stopped a number of buses on the Kunduz-Baghlan highway and abducted almost 200 passengers. After interrogating each passenger, insurgents shot and killed 10. Over 160 were released during the day and a further eight were released on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, at least 10 hostages were still being held by the Taliban.

Kunduz provincial council said the kidnapping showed that Kunduz is still a hot bed of Taliban activity. Civil society activists in Baghlan meanwhile put on a theater performance portraying Tuesday's tragic incident.

"Every day civilians are victims therefore we put on the show in order to find out what government's responsibilities are. Is government responsive to the people or not?" they asked.

Meanwhile residents in Kunduz raised concerns over the security of the province.

"The passengers cannot travel safely on the Baghlan-Kunduz highway or come to Kunduz or go to other provinces. The security is very bad," said one resident.

But security officials in Kunduz said they are doing everything possible to rescue the remaining hostages.

"Our operations are under way to rescue other hostages," said Masoum Hashimi, Kunduz's acting police chief.

Police rescue 10 abducted passengers in Kunduz, 8 still in Taliban custody

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan cops have rescued at least 10 kidnapped passengers during an operation in northern Kunduz province of Afghanistan.

According to police sources in Kunduz, the passengers were rescued during a night raid in Shina Tapa area on Tuesday night.

The sources further added that three Taliban gunnies who were keeping the hostages were also killed and operations are underway for the release of 8 others still in Taliban custody.

The security officials are saying that the Taliban gunnies kidnapped the passengers from 4 buses, 3 vans and 3 cars and took them with themselves.

Kunduz Appellate Court Chief wounded in Taliban attack

[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A heavy kaboom rocked Ghazni city earlier today after a group of Taliban jacket wallahs attacked the provincial court compound.

A local security official confirmed that four holy warriors attacked the Appellate Court of Ghazni and were all killed during a shootout with the Afghan cops.

The official further added that a policeman lost his life in the attack and the head of the court along with two other civilians were maimed.

Provincial police chief Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel confirmed that a police lost his life and the Appellate Court Chief along with two civilians were maimed.

The Taliban grabbed credit behind the incident and said a boom-mobile exploded near the court as a large number of police forces had gathered.

The attack on Ghazni court comes as the Taliban group vowed to target the judiciary institutions following the execution of 6 holy warriors over terror offences by the Afghan government earlier last month.

Israel arrests Iran TV reporter for incitement, supporting terror

A journalist for an Iranian news outlet was tossed in the calaboose

in northern Israel on Wednesday for incitement and supporting terror groups, police said.

Bassam al-Safadi, a 43-year-old resident of the Druze village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, has been accused of "publishing statements in support of terror groups and incitement to violence or terror," a police spokesperson said.

Safadi is a news hound for Iran’s al-Alam news network, which draws its funding from the state-run Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran Broadcasting company.

On its website, the television channel claimed Safadi was arrested for "no reason," saying it was likely linked to a report in which he alleged that Israel was "stealing" oil on the Golan Heights -- a reference to Israeli exploratory drilling in the Israeli-controlled side of the plateau, which is captured from Syria during the 1967 Six Day War.

According to the Iranian outlet, Safadi’s laptop and camera were also confiscated during his arrest on Wednesday morning.

Majdal Shams is one of the largest Druze communities in Israel. Though the town was formally annexed by Israel in the 1970s, many living there continue to support the Assad regime in Syria.

Many Majdal Shams residents have refused to accept Israeli citizenship; however, Safadi is not one of them, police said.

In 2009, two other news hounds for al-Alam were arrested by Israel. Reporter Khodr Shahine and his assistant, Mohammed Sarhan, were sentenced to two months in prison for publishing information about troop movements during a 2008-2009 military operation in Gazoo that had been censored by the Israel Defense Forces.

On Wednesday, Safadi was brought before a Nazareth District Court, where it was decided that he will remain in police custody until Sunday.

Suspected robber killed in crossfire
[Dhaka Tribune] A suspected robber was killed in a crossfire between his associates and police at Amanatganj Bazaar of Baliatali village, Muladi cop shoppe of Barisal district in the early hours of yesterday.
No doubt that can be found on a map, though one would pretty much already need to know where it is.
The victim, Salim Howlader, 40, is the son of late Habibir Rahman of Safipur union under Muladi upazila of the district and leader of Salim Bahini,
...more or less translates as "Salim's Brigade", though now the guys will have to come up with a new name...
a notorious robbery gang.
Locally notorious, at least.
The police in their search recovered two pipe guns, six rounds of ammunition and two machetes, said Muladi cop shoppe officer in-charge (OC) Matiur Rahman.
Golly. They're going to have get another vault for the evidence room.
How close is a 'pipe gun' to a genuine 'shutter gun'?
Salim was accused in 11 cases including 4 murders at Muladi in the last two years.
Wanted on twelve planets, he is, for mopery and dopery on the spaceways.
Two months ago he killed Ripon Hawladar in the daytime at Muladi and went into hiding, the OC said.
His mother still loved him, even if everyone else was mad.
The law enforcement team, with Salim accompanying them, was attacked by Salim’s armed associates who tried to snatch him back from the police,
"Hark, my spidey sense is tingling -- quick, Bahinimen, snatch and shoot!"
about 4am yesterday, while they crossed Amanatganj Bazar to recover arms and ammunition.
Who needs Mahmoud the Weasel when the miscreant will lead you to his loot?
Both sides then engaged in a shootout, with the law enforcers forcing the miscreants to retreat.
...as if they had never been.
Following the shootout, when searching the area, police found the dead body of Salim
...lying neatly within the chalk outline on the X...
and recovered the arms and ammunition, he said.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamol, SI Faruq and constable Parvej were maimed
"OMG, that splinter hurts!"
and admitted to Muladi Health Complex.

The dead body of Salimwas sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital for an appointment with Dr. Quincy, police sources added.
"He's dead, Jim. Stack him with the rest."

Presidency Council sets up second anti-IS operations room as Misratans and PFG move closer to Sirte
[Libya Herald] The Presidency Council headed by Faiez Serraj has set up a second operations room to fight the so-called Islamic state (IS). It will be responsible for action between Sirte and Ajdabiya. The new operations room is headed by Colonel Yusef Rajeb Ageela and has six other commanders in it.

Action west of Sirte is covered by the the Bunyan Marsous operations room set up by the Presidency Council four weeks ago.

The latest announcement, made yesterday, came as troops of the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG) commanded by Ibrahim Jedhran, claimed to have captured both Ben Jawad and Nufliya from IS.

It also came as Serraj and Ahmed Maetig, one of the five Presidnecy Council deputy leaders, conferred in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
with the mayor of Ajdabiya, Salem Jadhran, Ibrahim Jadhran’s brother.

Officially the separate meetings were about financial and other support for public services in Ajdabiya. However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
it has been reported that Salem was also acting on behalf of his brother to ensure military support for the PFG push against IS.

In its announcement, the Presidency said not only that all military forces in the Sirte-Ajdabiya area would be under the control of the operations room, it also prohibited any other military or paramilitary forces from combat operations in the area.

This is seen as a deliberate move against the Libya National Army (LNA) led by Khalifa Hafter which has moved to take control of some of the oilfields in the region.

Despite claiming last month that it would attack Sirte, the LNA has not done so. In Benghazi, it is now being claimed that the it is holding back and has decided to let the PFG and the largely Misratan Bunyan Marsous forces west of Sirte bear the brunt of the fighting. The suggestion is that it will move in once they have defeated IS.

For its part, following the capture of Ben Jawad and Nufliya, the PFG is now heading towards Harawa, some 70 kilometres east of Sirte and seized by IS exactly a year ago.

The capture of Harawa would effectively hem in IS from the east and west of Sirte, although not from the south.

To the west, the Bunyan Marsous operations room says that it is now firmly in control of all the Khaleej power station, 20 kilometres west of Sirte, following heavy fighting there during the day. There was also fighting further south. According to the operations room, three of its soldiers were killed and ten maimed. It also reported eight air strikes on IS forces.

Four Killed in Riots in Nigeria over Alleged Blasphemy
[An Nahar] At least four people were killed in central Nigeria in two days of violence over an alleged blasphemy by a Christian trader against Prophet Mohammed, residents told AFP on Tuesday.

Abdullahi Sallau said a Moslem mob killed one person on Sunday and three on Monday in the town of Pandogari in Niger state "following blasphemous remarks by a Christian against the Prophet."

One of those killed was Methodus Chimaije Emmanuel, the 24-year-old who posted comments on his Facebook page, said Sallau, who lives in the town. His account was supported by another local.

Emmanuel, whose parents were from Nigeria's mainly Christian south but who was born and raised in Pandogari, had gone into hiding following the post but was found.

"The crowd took the law into their hands and mobbed him to death despite the revulsion expressed by his parents over the online comments," said Misbahu Malami, who lives locally.

Soldiers and police have made arrests and imposed an overnight curfew to restore calm after crowds went on the rampage, looting shops, burning a church and demanding the suspects' release.

Sallau said soldiers opened fire and killed three while three others were maimed. The military said one of the dead was a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.

Army front man Major NC Agwu confirmed that Emmanuel was killed by a mob "on (the) allegation of posting a blasphemous statement about Prophet Mohammad on the social media."

Soldiers "quickly intervened and restored law and order while a dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed in the town" but the mob on Monday took over a major road, prompting further deployments, he said.

"Regrettably, one church, one house and a shop were burnt while 25 other shops were looted following the violence," added Agwu.

Sept 11 suspect asks that US judge step down, cites evidence destruction
[DAWN] The United States (US) military judge overseeing the trial of the accused criminal mastermind of the Sept 11 attacks should step down and the case should be scrapped because he effectively conspired with prosecutors to destroy evidence, defence lawyers said in a court filing.

The motion said Judge James Pohl, an Army colonel, and prosecutors had tainted the case against Pakistain-born Khalid Sheikh Mohammad
...Mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. He was captured in Faisalabad, Pakistain in 2002 and interned at Guantanamo....
by keeping defence lawyers from learning that the evidence had been destroyed.

The motion was filed on May 10 and recently cleared for release. It raises a potential hurdle in the slow-moving capital case against Mohammad and four others charged in the hijacked airliner attacks of Sept 11, 2001, in which 3,000 people died.

Pohl, along with prosecutors, "manipulated secret proceedings and the use of secret orders to mislead the defence and unfairly deprive Mr Mohammad" of ways to keep the evidence from being destroyed, the motion said.

Commissions spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Valerie Henderson referred questions to the prosecutor's response, which is expected to be made public in a few days.

Pohl presided over a pretrial hearing on Tuesday in the case at the US Navy prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The filing alleges that Pohl authorised prosecutors to destroy evidence six months after he agreed to a defence request that it be preserved.

Air Strikes in North Syria Kill at Least 42 Civilians
[An Nahar] At least 42 civilians including five children were killed in regime, Russian and U.S.-led coalition air strikes in northern Syria on Wednesday, a monitor said.

Regime air strikes killed 15 civilians in Idlib province, while Russian and regime air strikes killed at least 11 civilians in neighboring Aleppo province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Seven of those died in regime raids on a bus on the Castello road, a key supply route for the rebels out of the divided historic provincial capital of Aleppo city, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Air strikes by the U.S.-led coalition killed a further six civilians in Aleppo's Manbij town and 10 in Raqa city in the province of the same name, both held by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group, he said.

The international coalition fighting IS on Wednesday said it had conducted 18 air strikes near Manbij, which is located some 20 miles (30 kilometers) west of the Euphrates river.

US bombing key northern Syria bridges, IS says

[IsraelTimes] An Islamic State-affiliated news agency says US-led aircraft have bombed several key bridges in northern Syria, severing an important IS supply route between the Turkish border and Manbij, where a US-backed and Kurdish-led force is advancing.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says coalition aircraft struck at least one bridge between Manbij and Jarablus, a town on the Turkish border under IS control.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Scott Adams (Dilbert) on Why Trump will win:
So Adams pivoted to write more about the workplace, and the budding "Dilbert" in the early ’90s became "about this huge part of people’s lives that was invisible to the rest of the world and about suffering in a hundred different ways."

"By simply mentioning that world," Adams says, the comic connected with readers "on an emotional level."

And isn’t that essentially, in turn, what Trump is doing? He is acknowledging the suffering of some, Adams says, and then appealing emotionally to that.

And he bolsters that approach, Adams says, by "exploiting the business model" like an entrepreneur. In this model, which "the news industry doesn’t have the ability to change ... the media doesn’t really have the option of ignoring the most interesting story," says Adams, contending that Trump "can always be the most interesting story if he has nothing to fear and nothing to lose."

1. Trump knows people are basically irrational.,
2. Knowing that people are irrational, Trump aims to appeal on an emotional level.
3. By running on emotion, facts don’t matter.
4. If facts don’t matter, you can’t really be "wrong."
5. With fewer facts in play, it’s easier to bend reality.
6. To bend reality, Trump is a master of identity politics -- and identity is the strongest persuader.

"Identity is always the strongest level of persuasion. The only way to beat it is with dirty tricks or a stronger identity play. ... [And]

Trump is well on his way to owning the identities of Americans (people who see themselves that way), Alpha Males, and Women Who Like Alpha Males.
Clinton is well on her way to owning the identities of angry women, beta males, immigrants, and disenfranchised minorities.

"If this were poker, which hand looks stronger to you for a national election?"

"Free will is an illusion. Humans are nothing but moist robots"

#4  a massive number of people have lost their jobs due to globalization. The Republicans and Democrats have ignored the problem and written these folks off of the unemployment numbers.

But they are still there and they vote and they are pissed.

Trump speaks to them. Bernie speaks to them as well, to a lesser extent.

#5  I disagree with Adams on this. Voters are rational, very rational. It is a fact that folks vote against, very rarely for someone - that is rational if we vote against something that is not working or poisonous to our society. Thus, Trump woos the anti-illegal immigrant folks, the anti-Clintons and the anti-Obamas, anti-worthless Republican leadership, anti-beta male world. I want a war president and Trump is the best choice left standing.

Economy
Cash-only doctors abandon the insurance system
[MONEY.CNN] Fed up with declining payments and rising red tape, a small but growing number of doctors is opting out of the insurance system completely. They're expecting patients to pony up with cash.

Some doctors who have gone that route love it, saying they can spend more time with and provide higher-quality care to their patients. Health advocates are skeptical, worrying that only the wealthy will benefit from this system.
An absurd concern playing into the idea that government-mandated insurance provides inferior patient care. This is a vile canard, as President Obama promised it will be ever so much better. Besides, every patient who chooses the concierge route is one less the official systems need to take care of.
In Wichita, Kan., 32-year old family physician Doug Nunamaker switched to a cash-only basis in 2010 after taking insurance for five years. ("Cash-only" is a loose description. Nunamaker accepts payment by debit or credit card too.)

Under the traditional health insurance system, a large staff was required just to navigate all the paperwork, he said. That resulted in high overhead, forcing doctors like Nunamaker to take on more patients to cover costs. Plus, the amount insurance companies were willing to pay for procedures was declining, leading to a vicious cycle.

"The paperwork, the hassles, it just got to be overwhelming," Nunamaker said. "We knew that we had to find a better way to practice."

#1  I know of several doctors that you just pay a monthly fee for. You can see them 2-3 times a year for $25/month. Extra visits aren't that much more and all added up is a fuckload cheaper than a monthly insurance premium.

I expect to see more and more of this. Until the insurance companies start seeing too much business go the cash only doctor's way and have their paid lawmakers outlaw it.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
IRS warned Champ: 'Illegal to pay ObamaCare subsidies to insurance companies'
In a sworn deposition newly made public, the IRS's Chief Risk Officer David Fisher told the House Ways and Means Committee that he had raised concerns to the Obama administration in 2014 when it was about to authorize subsidies to insurance companies as part of ObamaCare, a move which a judge ruled was illegal in early May.

Fisher's testimony suggests the White House knew it was breaking the law when it decided to go forward with the subsidies. He testified to telling administration officials that "there was no clear reference in the section regarding the cost-sharing reduction payments to the Internal Revenue Code in the Affordable Care Act" and the "cost-sharing reduction payments are not linked to the Internal Revenue Code, as far as I could tell, directly anywhere."

If this all sounds obscure and complicated, that's because it is. Two years ago, the White House asked Congress for money to subsidize insurance companies participating in ObamaCare. The payments, designed to cover the costs of insuring people whose income was at or below 400 percent of the poverty line, were authorized by the Affordable Care Act but never appropriated by the legislature, which holds the power of the purse.

In other words, the concept of the subsidies was legal, but actually paying them was not, absent additional action from Congress. Bonnie Kristian

Shabaab Leader 'Presumed Killed' in U.S. Strikes in Somalia
[An Nahar] A Shabaab military leader in Somalia is "presumed killed" following recent U.S. air strikes, Pentagon officials said Wednesday.

The Arclight airstrike carried out on May 27 targeted top Shabaab military commander Abdullahi Haji Da'ud, Pentagon front man Peter Cook told news hounds.

Another U.S. official told news hounds in Washington that the senior Shabaab turban is believed to have been killed in the attack.

"Da'ud was one of Shabaab's most senior military planners and served as a principal coordinator of (the group's) militia attacks in Somalia, Kenya, and Uganda," Cook told news hounds in San Diego.

The Shabaab -- a group fighting to overthrow the internationally backed government in Mogadishu -- has also vowed retribution against "Western crusaders" who it says are guilty of offenses against Muslims in Somalia.
