The Daily Show's Trevor Noah described the far-left extremist movement Antifa as "Vegan ISIS"
[Daily Caller] The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah described the far-left extremist movement Antifa as "Vegan ISIS" Thursday night, among a host of other jokes and insults rebuking the group of violent anarchists.

Noah’s jokes follow the establishment media’s change in stance towards the extremist movement, which earned widespread ire following violence in Berkeley last weekend. During the protest, random onlookers, conservatives, and journalists were assaulted by gangs of black-clad "anti-fascists." The group even went after a comedian dressed as a popcorn vendor, deeming him a capitalist.

Naturally, members of Antifa and their left-wing sympathizers did not take Noah’s jokes lightly. From accusations of Nazi sympathizing to all-out death threats, leftists are upset by the comedian’s right to tell jokes.

Responding to a tweet promoting the segment and mocking Antifa, far-left extremists railed against the show and its host ranging between milquetoast criticism like "this is not comedy anymore" to lame insults against moderates who found the segment funny.

Many of the comments were hyperbolic, warning that Antifa are the only thing standing between democracy and full-blown Nazism.

Congressional Intelligence Committees - Klingon Handmaidens ?
[Daily Beast - 22 Aug 17] If the Senate intelligence committee gets its way, America’s spy agencies will have to release a flood of information about Russian threats to the U.S.--the kind of threats that Donald Trump may not want made public.

The committee also wants Congress to declare WikiLeaks a "non-state hostile intelligence service," which would open Julian Assange and the pro-transparency organization ‐ which most of the U.S. government considers a handmaiden of Russian intelligence ‐ to new levels of surveillance.

On Friday, the committee quietly published its annual intelligence authorization, a bill that ble$$e$ the next year’$ worth of intelligence operation$. The bill passed the committee late last month on a 14-1 vote, with Democrat Ron Wyden of Oregon as the lone dissenter, owing to what he calls the "legal, constitutional and policy implications" that the WikiLeaks provision may entail.

Among the bill’s major provisions are requirements for the intelligence community to release major public reports into Russian threats to U.S. elections, Russian interference in the 2016 campaign, Moscow’s influence operations, Russian money laundering in the U.S., and more. In short, the Senate committee intends to do a lot more about Russia than investigate its involvement in the 2016 presidential race ‐ namely, box the Trump administration into a more assertive response to Russian aggression.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller issued subpoenas seeking testimony from executives who worked on a campaign organized by Paul Manafort – including the Podesta Group — an NBC exclusive report published Friday revealed.

The Podesta Group, co-founded by John Podesta, who was chairman of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, was one of six lobbying firms that worked on Manafort’s campaign to get Ukraine into the European Union between 2012 to 2014 – a fact buried in the ninth paragraph of NBC’s report.

Suspects in custody in shooting of 2 St. Louis police officers and bystander
[St. Louis Post-Dispatch] ST. LOUIS • Two suspects were in custody Friday night in a shooting that left two officers and a woman who was doing laundry wounded.

The officers, a man and a woman, were attacked in the 800 block of Dickson Street and then drove themselves to near 14th Street and Cass Avenue, where they called for help, officials said. They were in stable condition at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

The officers, members of the gang squad, were "ambushed" by two people they recognized and wanted to question, acting Police Chief Lawrence O’Toole said at a press conference Friday night.. He said the two fired on the officers with an assault-style rifle and a handgun. One officer was apparently able to fire one or two shots in return before the officers sped away, O’Toole said.

The County Durham men who drew the Mason-Dixon Line
[BBC] It is 250 years since America's Mason-Dixon Line was completed. Hailed as a groundbreaking technical achievement, it came to symbolise the border between the Civil War North and South, separating free Pennsylvania from slave-owning Maryland. But who were the two British men who created it?

"It was the equivalent of the moon landings today," according to Mason-Dixon Line expert David Thaler.

Baker's son Charles Mason and lapsed Quaker Jeremiah Dixon were established scientists when commissioned to settle a land dispute in the pre-revolutionary America of 1763.

For 80 years the Calvert family of Maryland and the Penns of Pennsylvania had been locked in a bloody dispute over the boundary between the two colonies they had been granted by the English Crown.

"The stakes were very high," said Mr Thaler, trustee of the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore and an expert on the Mason-Dixon project.

"There was about 4,000 sq miles of territory that was in dispute and nobody knew who to pay taxes to. Warfare regularly broke out along the border."

Cheap shot, indeed, given the bit in the article where they explain that the best science of the time was off by a bit compared to modern methods. And if course, the troubles later did not occur at the border, but further in on both sides. The sweet order of the border remains to this day. ;-)

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Nikki Haley: Hamas Boast of Iranian Support a ‘Stunning Admission'
[Breitbart Jerusalem] UNITED NATIONS -- The United States on Thursday described remarks by a Palestinian Hamas leader boasting of strong military ties with Iran as a "stunning admission" that showed Tehran was violating a UN ban on arms exports.

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who heads the Palestinian Islamist terrorist movement in Gaza, told reporters on Monday that Iran was the "biggest supporter" of Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.

"The Iranian military support to Hamas and al-Qassam is strategic," said Sinwar, adding that ties with Iran had "become fantastic and returned to its former era."

In a statement, the US mission to the United Nations recalled that Iran is barred from exporting weapons under a key UN resolution that endorsed the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

"Once again, Iran is showing its true colors," said US Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Iran must abide by UN resolutions or decide "whether it wants to be the leader of a jihadist terrorist movement," she added.

"It’s long past time for the international community to hold Iran to the same standard that all countries who actually value peace and security are held to."

A strong supporter of Israel, Haley has repeatedly criticized Iran at the United Nations and cast doubt over its commitment to the nuclear deal.

The United States considers Hamas, which has fought three wars with Israel since 2008, a terrorist organization.

Hamas has run Gaza since 2007 and received Iranian financial and military support for years, but the movement had distanced itself from Iran over Tehran’s strong backing of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

Sinwar, however, has sought to rebuild relations, sending a high-level delegation to meet Iranian officials.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Preemptive Strikes and Preventive Wars: A Historian's Perspective
[Victor Davis Hanson] Preventive wars and preemptive strikes are both risky business. A preventive war is a military, diplomatic, and strategic endeavor, aimed at an enemy whom one expects to grow so strong that delay would cause defeat. A preemptive strike is a military operation or series of operations to preempt an enemy’s ability to attack you. In both cases, a government judges a diplomatic solution impossible. But judgment calls are debatable and preventive wars often stir up controversy. Preemptive strikes run the risk of arousing a sleeping enemy who, now wounded, will fight harder. Yet both preventive wars and preemptive strikes can succeed, under certain limited circumstances. Consider some examples.

The Peloponnesian War (431-404 B.C.) is the granddaddy of all preventive wars. The Peloponnesians, led by Sparta, decided to make war on Athens less because of a series of disputes dividing the two blocs than because of the future that they feared, one in which Athens’ growing power would break apart Sparta’s alliance system. The Athenians wanted to decide the two sides’ dispute via arbitration, but the Spartans refused, which cost Sparta the moral high ground. Before Athens and Sparta could fight a proper battle, the war began. Sparta’s ally, Thebes, launched a preemptive strike on the nearby city and Athenian ally, Plataea.

Both the preemptive strike and the preventive war succeeded but at no small cost. It took four years of hard fighting and considerable escalation before Plataea surrendered. Sparta emerged victorious against Athens but only after 27 years of intermittent and escalatory warfare. The price of victory was steep, leading to embroilment in war against Persia, a falling-out with Sparta’s former allies, and ultimately, the collapse of the Spartan regime after centuries of stability. Athens lost the Peloponnesian War, but managed to preserve and even strengthen its regime at home; it never successfully restored its overseas power.

#1  And the French move to throw the Germans out of the Rhineland in 1936 prevented WW II. Oh. Wait.
Point is, you never know what a particular move prevented since, logically, whatever it was didn't have a chance to happen.
So you can't tell the difference between having prevented it and it was never going to happen. And, historically, they usually look pretty sordid. No matter what they prevent, which, as I say, didn't happen and nobody knows what it might have been.

#2  On other hand, humans have a penchant and willingness to engage in human sacrifice (of others) rather than dirtying their own hands in prevention of greater harm. Think of it as chemotherapy for cancer. It's harmful to the body, but to do otherwise faces a certain terminal outcome.

Europe
Hungarian President Orban Sends The EU A Bill For Their Border Fence
[Hot Air] Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been something of a thorn in the side of the EU for quite a while now when it comes to the refugee crisis and questions over terrorism and illegal immigration. While most of the rest of the union has been bending over backwards to keep pace with Angela Merkel’s plans for unlimited immigration and open borders, Hungary has taken a hard line in keeping the illegal migrants out. This has led the EU to recently consider imposing penalties on Hungary for their failure to get with the program.

Orban came up with an even better response of his own. He just sent the European Union a bill for $476 million to cover half the cost of the razor wire fence he put up to keep the flow of immigrants out. (Daily Caller)

Awan Asks Judge To Remove GPS, Citing Possible Emergency With Kids In Pakistan
[Daily Caller] A former House of Representatives IT aide was arraigned in federal court Friday on four felony fraud charges, appearing with three attorneys including Chris Gowen, a former close aide to Hillary and Bill Clinton.

Gowen asked that Imran Awan’s GPS monitoring bracelet be removed, citing that Imran might need to attend to an emergency with his children. In a press conference outside court, Gowen admitted that the children are in Pakistan and refused to explain the discrepancy.

"His ability to parent, which may well be single parenting, if there is an emergency..." Gowen said.

He also asked for other restrictions on his movement to be lifted, saying he has been driving for Uber, but the company had no record of any driver matching several variations of Imran’s name.
Golly, how is an off-the-books Uber driver able to afford three lawyers, at least one of whom appears to be seriously not inexpensive?
Prosecutor Michael Marando opposed the motions, saying Imran is a severe flight risk. "From Day 1 there was a pattern of flight. It began September 2016... a pattern of transfers to Pakistan, hundreds of thousands of dollars," he said. The judge has not ruled on the motion.

Man Sentenced For Laundering Mexican Money To Democratic Mayoral Candidate
[Daily Wire] A U.S. District Court Judge in the Southern District of California sentenced a "political guru" on Thursday for his role in helping a Mexican billionaire launder hundreds of thousands of dollars into the campaign of San Diego Democratic mayoral candidate Bob Filner, who eventually won.

Judge Michael M. Anello ordered 45-year-old "political guru" Ravneet Singh, the former CEO of ElectionMall Technologies, to report to prison on October 12, 2017, to begin serving his sentence, which includes 15 months in prison and a $10,000 fine, the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) reported.

According to evidence presented at trial, Singh conspired with Mexican billionaire Jose Susumo Azano Matsura, 52, to inject more than $600,000 in cash and consulting services into the 2012 San Diego mayoral election -- which is a crime due to Azano’s status as a foreign national.

Azano sought to buy political influence in exchange for his contributions, as he wanted support to develop San Diego into "Miami West" -- a development project that included a marina and real estate opportunities where he would make millions.

To make his vision a reality, Azano used his son, 25-year-old Edward Susumo Azano Hester, and others to distance himself from the political contributions by having them funnel the money "through corporate and third person ’straw donor’ contributions."

DHS Formally Calls Activities Of Antifa ‘Domestic Terrorist Violence'
[Daily Caller] The Department of Homeland Security has formally classified activities of so-called anti-fascist or "antifa" groups as "domestic terrorist violence," according to sources and documents obtained by Politico.

The news comes on the heels of antifa violence that erupted against peaceful supporters of Donald Trump and others antifa accused of, often falsely, being white supremacists or Nazis, The L.A. Times reported.

According to Politico, unreported documents from a 2016 joint intelligence assessment by DHS and the FBI described that by April 2016, officials claimed that "anarchist extremists" were the root cause of the violence at public demonstrations against many different targets and were assessed for attacking law enforcement and government entities in the name of fighting racism, fascism, social injustice and "the capitalist system."

"It was in that period [as the Trump campaign emerged] that we really became aware of them," said one senior law enforcement official tracking domestic extremists in a state that has become a front line in clashes between the groups. "These antifa guys were showing up with weapons, shields and bike helmets and just beating the shit out of people... They’re using Molotov cocktails, they’re starting fires, they’re throwing bombs and smashing windows."

Antifascist groups were already classified with "domestic terrorism" organizations by New Jersey’s Office of Homeland Security.

Mark Steyn: Dem IT Scandal Is Worse than Russia and Nobody's Interested in It
[PJ] "Basically everything people have been looking for in the so-called Russia investigation is actually here in the more or less uncovered Imran Awan investigation," political commentator Mark Steyn argued on Fox News' Tucker Carlson Tonight Wednesday evening.

He brought up the latest shoe to drop in the growing scandal, which was broken this week by Luke Rosiak in The Daily Caller, as a prime example.

"This guy [Imran Awan] had his access to House email withdrawn because he was a security risk, yet he still had a House email," said Steyn incredulously.

"This story is malodorous to a degree that nothing surrounding Trump's involvement in the Miss Universe Pageant in St. Petersburg ... is at all ... and nobody's interested in it!" he continued.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz in recent weeks has defended her decision to keep Awan -- a suspect in a criminal investigation -- on as an employee even after he was arrested by claiming that he is a victim of anti-Islamic bigotry.

"He's a civil-rights martyr," Carlson remarked sarcastically.

"He's been accused of browsing while Muslim," Steyn snarked in reply.

"She [Wasserman Schultz] has already attempted to intimidate and obstruct the investigation," said Steyn, referring to her threat last May that there would "be consequences" if U.S. Capitol Police Chief Matthew R. Verderosa did not return her laptop.

"As you know, she demanded the return of her laptop from the policeman investigating this.....it's on camera and it's the interference with a police investigation that everyone's accusing Trump of doing with James Comey and all those guys!" Steyn exclaimed. "So everything they've been ... sniffing around Trump for with the Russia investigation ... is staring them in the face with this thing!"

"Man, if we ever get a Republican-controlled Congress, maybe they'll investigate it," Carlson piped in, sarcastically again.

Steyn ended the segment with a humorous riff on Hillary Clinton's book tour which, according to a press release, promises to be "surprisingly funny."

"I thought election night was surprisingly funny," Steyn deadpanned.

He joked that there are scores of "Saudi princes and Sudanese warlords" who are upset with Clinton only charging North Americans $2400 to meet her.

"That's bargain-basement prices for a meet and greet," he said. Speaking for the Saudis and Sudanese, he added, "I had to pay four million dollars to the Clinton Foundation and sit through a speech on diarrhea in Africa from Chelsea [Clinton] before I could get a meet and greet with Hillary Clinton."

He called both events a "hell of a steal."

POTUS uncovers evidence of DACA loophole hidden by Soetoro
[Wash Times] Thousands of Dreamers have used a loophole in federal law to get on a full pathway to citizenship, top congressional Republicans revealed Friday, citing government data withheld by the Obama administration but provided by the Trump administration.

The Dreamers were all part of DACA, the legally questionable amnesty program that’s under scrutiny right now as President Trump decides whether to scrap the Obama-era amnesty.
The House and Senate Judiciary Committees revealed that more than 45,000 DACA recipients were approved for "advance parole," which is permission to leave and reenter the U.S. despite not being in permanent legal status here.

But under a quirk of law, those granted advance parole can then ask to adjust their status and gain legal residence -- and eventually citizenship -- as long as they have a qualifying relationship.

The Obama administration had seemed intent on keeping the data secret, refusing to answer requests from Congress. The Trump administration complied.

According to the data from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, as of Aug. 21, 45,447 DACA recipients had been approved for advance parole.

Federal Judge Blocks Texas Dismemberment Abortion Ban
[Townhall] U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel issued a temporary injunction Thursday against a law, recently signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, banning some "dilation and evacuation" second trimester abortions. The law would’ve taken effect Friday.

The legislation specifically prohibited the performance of abortion procedures that extract "the unborn child one piece at a time from the uterus through the use of clamps, grasping forceps, tongs, scissors, or a similar instrument that, through the convergence of two rigid levers, slices, crushes, or grasps, or performs any combination of those actions on, a piece of the unborn child’s body to cut or rip the piece from the body."

Planned Parenthood sued, arguing that the law amounted to an abortion ban after 15 weeks for some women and that D&E abortions were one of the safest abortion procedures for women.

Not so much for the living being you are murdering inside their mother. POTUS: Comey Drafting Premature Exoneration Statement for Clinton Proof of ‘Rigged System'
[Free Beacon] President Donald Trump on Friday called out James Comey after reports surfaced a day earlier that the former FBI director had drafted a statement to exonerate Hillary Clinton from the investigation into her private email server before key portions of the probe were complete.

"Wow, looks like James Comey exonerated Hillary Clinton long before the investigation was over...and so much more," Trump wrote on Twitter. "A rigged system!"

#1  It wasn't about Hillary and her wrong-doings which were many and egregious. Comey had to whitewash Hillary so he could get on with the faked investigation of Trump and associates. The Dems were not planning for a loss in 2016. They wanted Trump to run against Hillary because they thought he would be easiest to beat. Plan A was that Hillary was to be the next POTUS. Part of Plan A was to take down Trump in the election with opposition research, planned unrest at Trump's rallies, spying on Trump, unmasking of Trump and associates, opening up the intelligence agencies against Trump, accusations of wrong-doing such as had been down to Herman Cain, fake dossiers--they threw everything at Trump. After she lost, Plan A quickly morphed into Plan B--Russian collusion accusations, and appointment of special counsel to try to get Trump weakened, made ineffectual with having to fend off constant accusations and impeached. I hope Trump finds the way to bulldoze the Deep State and get rid of these traitors and criminals. America will be better off.

Ex-Contractor in Leak Treason Case Wants FBI Admission Suppressed
[Mil.com] SAVANNAH, Ga. -- A young woman charged with leaking classified U.S. documents has asked a federal judge to rule that comments she made to FBI agents before her arrest can't be used as evidence.

Reality Winner, a former Air Force linguist who held a top-secret security clearance, worked as a government contractor in Augusta, Georgia, until she was charged with copying a classified report and mailing it to an online news organization.

The criminal complaint filed June 5 in U.S. District Court says Winner admitted to leaking the documents when she was questioned by FBI agents serving a search warrant at her apartment.

Winner's defense attorneys filed a court motion Tuesday asking the judge to suppress any comments she made to the FBI in that interview because agents never read Winner her Miranda rights.

Though she had not yet been formally arrested, Winner's attorneys said, she had every reason to believe she was in custody as she was questioned in a room of her apartment by two agents standing in front of the door.

"Winner was never told she was free to leave, nor was she advised as to her arrest status," Winner's attorneys wrote. "Indeed, when she specifically asked whether she was under arrest, the agents told her they did not know the answer to that 'yet.'"

Prosecutors had not filed any reply to the defense motion Wednesday, and there was no ruling from the judge.

Meanwhile, U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian K. Epps agreed during a status hearing Wednesday to postpone Winner's trial, which had been scheduled to start in October.

10-year-old boy allegedly raped, murdered in Karachi
[DAWN] The body of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped, raped and murdered was found on a street in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
on Friday morning, officials said.

The body of the minor, which was found on the street outside City Courts, was sent to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for a post-mortem examination, the officials said.

City Courts police official Muhammad Yasir claimed that unknown suspects had killed the boy elsewhere and later wrapped his body in cloth and disposed off it in the area. He said the suspect appeared to be around 10-years-old, and his identity could not be ascertained immediately.

CHK police surgeon Dr Qarar Ahmed Abbasi told Dawn that the boy had been raped before he was murdered. He added that the minor appeared to have been strangled to death, as there were marks around his neck.

Benazir's murder could have been prevented with appropriate security measures: ATC
...such as keeping the lady far from Pakistan. But they didn't, and so the inevitable occurred.
[DAWN] A Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court (ATC) which announced the verdict in the Benazir Bhutto
... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in...
murder case on Thursday stated that the liquidation of the former premier "could have been prevented if the Rawalpindi District Police had taken adequate security measures."

The ATC in its 46-page long order suggested Bhutto's murder was the result of an inadequate response to security threats.

It concluded that "Bhutto was killed in an attack as a result of firing, followed by a kaboom caused by an unknown jacket wallah on her way back from addressing a political gathering at Liaquat Bagh."

According to the court order, explosives were detonated near Bhutto's car, as she left the rally, by a 15-year-old boy. "No one believes that this boy acted alone," the order added.

"A range of government officials failed profoundly in their efforts first to protect Ms Bhutto and second to investigate with vigour all those responsible for her murder, not only in the execution of the attack, but also in its conception, planning and financing," it said.

Terror Networks
ISIS crisis: Setbacks bring change to media strategy
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Notwithstanding the steady increase in number of Moslems joining the terrorist group ISIS from around the world, the group has started to lose territories on a daily basis. Currently, all its routes are closed and it is unable to stem the heavy loss of life, particularly of its snuffies currently besieged in Raqqa. This has raised the question whether the group will be forced to change its military strategy, replacing its pattern of offensive warfare with defensive tactics to pick up the pieces of its shattered legacy.

Video in Spanish
Following the surfeit of international media reports on the Barcelona attack, ISIS released a bizarre video, titled ’The Conquest of Barcelona’ that featured the Spanish-speaking bad boy Abu Layth al Qurtubi. Wearing battle fatigues and feigning a Che Guevara look, al Qurtubi speaks softly with his lithe frame shown to the waist only. The video shows how the group is reshaping its war rhetoric and its media campaign. With a ’nasheed’ playing in the background, a Marxist revolutionary look-alike speaks in Spanish to woo new recruits to his cause. This new style of inveigling the impressionable reflects the desperation in the group to regain its popularity among the youth.

#4  I was watching a YouTube segment the other day. A reporter was interviewing protesters in Austin. The crowd, of about a 100 was the rudest, most unininformed obnoxious crowd. What struck me is that although they were all carrying signs such "Impeach Trump," few had a clue as to why he should be impeached. One protester did offer "He lied." When asked what Trump lied about, he could not come up with anything. Some girl kept squawking a duck call in the face of the reporter but other than that she was mute to questions asked of her. Another huge guy who seemed to only know swear words told the interviewer to "get the fuck out of my city you prick--it seemed as if he were about to go violent at any time on the interviewer.

Because the people seemed to know nothing about why they were protesting, it seemed to be a "hired crowd." They all parroted the same simple messages. They are just one part of the constant drumbeat against Trump that goes on in the many large cities in the U.S. I'd look to Soros and others for their links to these protesters. Much of the chaos and unrest in the U.S. would disappear if a crimp were put in the style of these puppeteers. I'm not advocating any violence but it would be nice if these folks, for a change, had to spend much of their time fending off early morning raids and IRS investigations, RICO investigations, giving depositions and spending time and money defending themselves in the courts.

Twelve South Sudanese soldiers are accused of gang-raping five foreigners, killing a local journalist while forcing survivors to watch, and looting the Terrain Hotel compound in the capital, Juba.

India-Pakistan
Holy men -- theirs and ours
[DAWN] INDIA and Pakistain have more influential holy men per square mile than anyone has ever counted. Some are just rich, others both powerful and rich. Once upon a time their followers were only the poor, superstitious and illiterate. But after the massive resurgence of religion in both countries this base has expanded to include politicians, film and cricket stars, and college-educated people who speak English and drive posh cars.

It is rare for an Indian holy man to bite the dust but one just did. The self-styled messenger of God, Ram Rahim Singh of Dera Sacha Sauda was convicted of two rapes by an Indian court. He is also accused of 52 other rapes, two murders, and storing 400 pairs of testicles in his refrigerators cut from 400 devotees on the promise of getting them nirvana. An avid Modi supporter, Singh travelled in entourages of 100-plus cars and claims 50-60 million followers. Vote-hungry politicians have touched his feet and done deals. After his conviction his crazed followers rioted, convinced of a conspiracy against their God. So far 38 people have died, hundreds injured, cars and public buildings set on fire.

But although Singh is one of India’s bigger holy men he is still small, dispensable fry. The really powerful ones are those who have learned the value of using religion in national politics. Today India is living out the Death Eater Hindutva ideology of Gowalkar and Savarkar with a head of government who is unabashedly committed to Hindu supremacy. This holy man’s clear and evident role in the communal riots of Gujarat

If it was Vladivostok or Khabarovsk being threatened it would be a different story. Blagoveshchensk, maybe not.
The Korean Peninsula was "balancing on the brink of a large-scale conflict", Putin wrote in an article to be published on Friday before a summit of BRICS economies to be held in China on Sunday.

"Russia believes that the policy of putting pressure on Pyongyang to stop its nuclear missile programme is misguided and futile," he wrote in the article sent to media in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - the BRICS member states.

"The region's problems should only be settled through a direct dialogue of all the parties concerned without any preconditions. Provocations, pressure and militarist and insulting rhetoric are a dead-end road."

US-backed Syria force says seizes Raqa Old City from IS
[Al Ahram] US-backed fighters on Friday ousted the Islamic State

group from Raqa's Old City, a front man told AFP, bringing them closer than ever to the Lion of Islams' most well-defended positions.

"Our forces today seized full control of the Old City in Raqa after festivities with ISIS," Syrian Democratic Forces front man Talal Sello said, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

"We are on the edges of IS's security quarter in the city centre, where most of its main bases are.

Houthis continue attacks in Taiz
The Yemeni army and popular committees managed on Friday to attack the Saudi-led mercenaries in the provinces of Taiz, Asir, Lahj, Al-Dalea and Al-Jawf, killing or injuring scores of them.

The leader of Ansarullah movement Sayyed Abdel Malik Badreddine Al-Houthi congratulated Yemeni people, army and popular committees as well as the entire Islamic Umma on Adha Eid, calling for the sustaining the internal front in face of the Saudi-led aggression.

Yemen has been since March 2015 under a brutal aggression by Saudi-led coalition. Tens of thousands of Yemenis have been injured and martyred in Saudi-led strikes, with the vast majority of them are civilians.

The coalition has been also imposing a blockade on the impoverished country’s ports and airports as a part of his aggression which is aimed at restoring power to fugitive former president Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi.

However, the allied forces of the army and the committees have been heroically confronting the aggression with all means.

Europe
PFLP In Germany
[JPost] It’s not enough that the PFLP hasn’t been banned long ago for carrying out deadly attacks to advance its agenda of destroying the State of Israel.

It sounds hallucinatory because it is: The Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostinian, a terrorist organization responsible for the deaths of dozens of Israelis ‐ including the 2001 liquidation of tourism minister Rehavam Ze’evi ‐ will be running candidates for the German Bundestag.

It’s not enough that the PFLP hasn’t been banned long ago for carrying out deadly attacks to advance its agenda of destroying the State of Israel. Representatives of this organization, which openly advocates the use of the most despicable means to achieve its ends, are exploiting the democratic process to gain access to political power and legitimacy. And they are doing it in Germany, a country that should have learned from its own history how fragile democracy can be.

Russian jets destroy 900 terrorist targets across Syria in one week
[AlMasdar] The Russian Aerospace Forces grouping in Syria has destroyed over nine hundred terrorist commandeered infrastructures, vehicles and other targets across Syria in the past week according to information released by the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The nine hundred Arclight airstrikes delivered were the result of Russian warplanes conducting 350 sorties against terrorist assets across Syria. This gives Russian airpower during the last seven days a strike-to-sortie ratio of almost 2.5 to 1.

Furthermore, Russian reconnaissance drones detected more than four hundred terrorist targets over the course of 130 flights.

Separate from any clarifications put forth by the Russian MoD, it can be said that the vast majority of the targets identified by Russian drones and struck by Russian jets belonged to the ISIS terrorist group in Syria’s central and eastern regions, whilst some were assets of the al-Qaeda-linked Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra

Afghanistan
28 die in airstrikes in Herat, Logar
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) released its preliminary findings regarding the deadly airstrikes conducted in Logar and Herat provinces of Afghanistan.

According to UNAMA, at least 28 civilians were killed and 16 others were wounded in the airstrikes, citing preliminary findings the mission conducted into the alleged civilian casualties reports.

The report by UNAMA further added, On 30 August, airstrikes conducted in the Pul-e-Alam district of Logar province killed at least 13 civilians and injured 12 others, UNAMA’s preliminary findings indicate.

UNAMA said, the air strikes reportedly targeted Anti-Government Elements as they used a civilian compound to attack aircraft.

“UNAMA notes the news release issued by United States Forces in Afghanistan that it is aware of an incident in the Logar area and that they have opened an investigation into it,” the report said, adding that “UNAMA will continue its independent work to establish the facts around the harm caused to civilians from these attacks, including looking into allegations that Anti-Government Elements deliberately used civilians or civilian locations as a shield.”

According to the UN mission in Afghanistan, it has recorded a 43 per cent increase in civilian casualties from aerial operations during the first six months of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016, documenting 232 civilian casualties (95 deaths and 137 injured), with substantial increases in women and child deaths.

“I am deeply saddened to hear that women and children have once again suffered so terribly from the conflict,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA. “This is unacceptable. All parties must live up to their obligations to take all feasible measures to protect civilians.”

UNAMA urges authorities to ensure independent, impartial and prompt investigations of both incidents at the earliest opportunity, and for appropriate steps to be taken to ensure accountability, compensation for victims and the prevention of such incidents in the future.

Qadri returns from London: ‘Metro leaks’ to end politics of Shahbaz
[DAWN] The chief of Pakistain Awami Tehrik (PAT), Tahirul Qadri
...Pak politician, and would-be dictator, founder and head of Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran and Pakistain Awami Tehrik. He usually resides in Canada, but returns to Pakistain periodically to foam at the mouth and lead demonstrations. Depending on which way the wind's blowing, Qadri claims to be the author of Pak's blasphemy law. Other times he says it wasn't him...
, arrived here on Thursday morning from London, promising to continue his struggle for justice for those killed in Model Town during a police operation in June 2014.

Mr Qadri, who keeps popping in and out of the country, this time returned after a 10-day foreign tour and, according to party sources, will have a longer stay here "till Justice Baqar Najfi’s report is made public and cases regarding the Model Town tragedy are finalised."

Talking to the media at Lahore airport, he said he had returned to the country to celebrate Eidul Azha here, whereas deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
left Pakistain on the occasion.

The court has put provincial government on notice for Sept 12 to present its position on the Justice Najfi Report. "This gives us a hope for justice," he said.

The PAT chief said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had got a chance to restore its credibility in references against the Sharifs and it must.

He said under the NAB ordinance, the accountability courts were bound to give verdict within a month.

The Supreme Court had allowed them six months, which was sufficient time to proceed, he added.

"Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is the main cause of corruption in Pakistain. If he is not taken to task quickly, he can create instability in the country by colluding with foreign forces," Qadri alleged. Nawaz was not thrown out only because of UAE work permit (Iqama), but all references were those of corruption and it would soon be evident, Qadri maintained.

Boko Haram members kill 18 people in northeast Nigeria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
gunnies killed 18 people in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
on Friday, according to local witnesses and officials, the latest in an escalating number of lethal attacks in the region.

The knife-wielding attackers, moving under cover of night, targeted people in the town of Banki, 80 miles (130 km) southeast of the city of Maiduguri in Borno state, the epicenter of the eight-year conflict with Boko Haram, said a community leader and a local member of a vigilante group.

The attack on the town, which sits on the border with Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, is the latest in a string of deadly Boko Haram raids and bombings that have undermined the Nigerian military’s statements that the insurgency is all but defeated.

The frequency of attacks in northeastern Nigeria has increased in the last few months, killing at least 172 people since June 1 before Friday’s attack, according to a Rooters tally.

The attack on Banki left 18 dead, according to Modu Perobe, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, a regional vigilante group. Abor Ali, a local ruler, confirmed the corpse count.

Boko Haram’s eight-year insurgency has left at least 20,000 dead and sparked one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world, with tens of thousands already in famine-like conditions, according to the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Some 8.5 million people in the worst affected parts of northeast Nigeria are now in need of some form of humanitarian assistance, with 5.2 million people lacking secure access to food, the UN has said.

Kurdish, Assyrian forces clash in Qamishli City
"Awright -- who said what about whose sister, and why'd ya hafta be so stoopid!"
[AlMasdar] A series of intense festivities broke-out between the Asayish (Kurdish police) and Sootooro (pro-government Assyrian paramilitary) forces in the central district of al-Qamishli on Thursday night.

The festivities would last for a short period of time and engulf much of al-Qamishli’s central district before both sides halted the hostilities and transferred their maimed to the national hospital.

According to local activists, one Sootooro fighter was seriously maimed, while one Asayish officer was killed and many more injured during the festivities in Qamishli City on Thursday.

All festivities have since stopped in al-Qamishli; however, tensions still remain high.

This is the first time in several months that festivities have broken-out between Kurdish and pro-government forces in al-Qamishli, as the city remained relatively peaceful after fierce firefights two years ago.

Myanmar military says death toll in clashes almost 400
[Al Ahram] Myanmar's military says almost 400 people have died in recent violence in the western state of Rakhine triggered by attacks on security forces by Lions of Islam from the Rohingya ethnic minority.

The numbers, posted Friday on the Facebook page of the country's military commander, are a sharp increase over the previously reported toll of just over 100. The statement said all but 29 of the 399 dead were Lion of Islams, whom it described as terrorists.

The statement said there had been 90 armed festivities including an initial 30 attacks by Lions of Islam on Aug. 25, making the combat more extensive than previously announced.

The army, responding to the Aug. 25 attacks, launched what it called clearance operations against the Lion of Islams. Advocates for the Rohingya, an oppressed Moslem minority in overwhelmingly Buddhist Myanmar, say security forces attacked and burned Rohingya villages, shooting civilians and causing others to flee. Hundreds of civilians have been killed, they say.

Tens of thousands have fled into neighboring Bangladesh, an exodus that continued Friday.

Bangladeshi border guards have tried to keep them out, but thousands could be seen Friday making their way across muddy rice fields.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
UN sees ISIS defeats in Syria by October, elections possible in a year
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] ISIS’s remaining Syrian strongholds are likely to fall by the end of October, which must be the trigger for the international community to push for free and fair elections, UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura said on Friday.

"What we are seeing is in my opinion the beginning of the end of this war... what we need to make sure is that this becomes also the beginning of peace. And that is where the challenge starts at this very moment," he said in a BBC radio interview.

Three places were still far from stabilized, de Mistura said: Raqqa, Deir al-Zor and Idlib.

"After Raqqa and Deir al-Zor, and that is a matter of a few months, there will be a moment of truth. If the international community will be helping both the opposition and the government by pushing the government to accept a real negotiation, then within a year it would be a possibility of having a truly credible election."

The city of Deir al-Zor has been under siege by ISIS Lions of Islam for years, forcing the UN to conduct an unprecedented and expensive high-altitude airdrop campaign to supply the population.

"The Syrian government and the Russians are very likely between now and the end of this month or perhaps early October, latest, to actually liberate it," de Mistura said.

The United States and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces "will probably liberate Raqqa by the end of October".

The third area, Idlib, is "full of al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
, which is al Qaeda," de Mistura said, referring to the Nusra Front, a one-time al Qaeda affiliate. It has been renamed and merged with other groups, but remains the only force in Syria’s war, apart from ISIS, that is designated by the UN as "terrorists".

The lesson from the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, taken over by ISIS a decade after the United States declared "mission accomplished" in the war in Iraq, was that Syria’s war needed to be followed by a fair UN-managed election, without neglecting minorities.

Syria’s war has largely pitted opposition forces against forces loyal to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
who is backed by Shi’a allies, including Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah militias.

An unrepresentative peace deal would leave the door open to a resurgence of ISIS.

"Even those who believe they won the war - that is the government - they will need to make a gesture, otherwise ISIS will come back in a month or two months’ time."

Nobody had an interest in a resurgence of ISIS in Syria, de Mistura said. Assad’s allies in Moscow, recalling the Soviet experience of war in Afghanistan, "certainly want an exit strategy."

"We are getting close to some kind of understanding even among those who have been involved in the conflict that the priority is to close it. What we need to do is wrap it up in a way that is stabilized, not just close the conflict."

NY Times details Hezbollah's spread throughout Middle East
[Ynet] The New York Times publishes report describing how the Iranian-backed terror group, which it says has become an invaluable instrument in Tehran’s ambitions of regional domination, has stretched its influence far beyond the borders of Leb and Syria, into Iraq and Yemen; report documents modus operandi of recruiting new fighters.

to Iraq’s south, Hezbollah has also penetrated Yemen, where they facilitated an occupation of the capital by local rebels, thereby dragging Riyadh--Iran’s arch nemesis--into the hostilities.

The report also acknowledges Hezbollah’s stationing of military forces along the Israel-Leb border as it prepares for another showdown with the IDF.

Members of militias interviewed in Iraq explained the modus operandi of the recruitment process with Iranian support to fight against ISIS.

Some of the new recruits trained in Iraq, while some were sent for 15-day training periods in Iran itself before being flown to Syria. More experienced fighters participated in advanced courses led by commanders from Iran and from Hezbollah either in Iran or Leb.

The New York Times report goes on to say Iranian officers were responsible for the cooperative operations that materialized between Syrian ground forces and the Russian air force, while Hezbollah provided field commanders.

Unofficial Major Development: Syrian Army liberates last ISIS stronghold in central Syria

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has liberated the last Islamic State (ISIS) stronghold, ‘Uqayribat, in the central region of Syria, the elite ISIS Hunters reported tonight.

According to the report released by the pro-government unit, the Islamic State has left the area and the town of ‘Uqayribat is full secured.

Al-Masdar has reached out to the Syrian Arab Army for confirmation, as no official statement has been released by the military.

If true, this will be a major blow to the Islamic State, as central Syria will be fully under the control of the Syrian Arab Army.

First scenes of the Syrian Army inside ISIL’s last stronghold in central Syria

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA), alongside their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF), steamrolled through the Islamic State’s (ISIS/ISIL) defenses on Friday to enter the terrorist group’s last stronghold in central Syria.

Video footage of the Syrian Arab Army entering ‘Uqayribat was released by the elite ISIS Hunters on Friday night; it shows the first moments the military was advancing inside this strategic town.
32 seconds of video at the link. Those of you who have done such things will glean more information from it than I did.
While several conflicting reports about ‘Uqayrbat’s liberation have been released, Al-Masdar was told by a source that the almost all terrorists in this region have fled through the eastern corridor of Hama.

The Syrian Army opened this corridor on Thursday night to encourage the terrorists to flee from ‘Uqayribat in order to avoid a long siege.

Syrian Army liberates two more towns in central Syria

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued to make progress in the central region of Syria, today, liberating two more towns from the so-called Islamic State (ISIL).

Led by the Special Forces of the 15th Division and 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Arab Army attacked the Islamic State’s positions at the towns of Mu’adamiyah and Al-Khafiyah in the southeastern countryside of ‘Uqayribat.

The Syrian Arab Army would take full control of both aforementioned towns after the Islamic State terrorists withdrew in order to reinforce the area around ‘Uqayribat.

As a result of today’s advance, the Syrian Arab Army is now within 5km of ‘Uqayribat’s southeastern flank, which means they should be able to storm the Islamic State’s stronghold in the coming hours if they choose to.

Syrian forces liberate key 6 towns from ISIS near ‘Uqayribat over 24 hours

[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has liberated another six key settlements from besieged ISIS militants in central Syria near the terrorist group’s regional stronghold of ‘Uqayribat over the last 24 hours.

Capitalizing on yesterday’s advances in central Homs Governorate, the SAA secured an area of twelve kilometers by four kilometers north of the town of Manoukh, helping it to expand its zone of control south of ‘Uqayribat.

Meanwhile in eastern Hama Governorate, vanguard forces of the Syrian Army liberated the settlements of Rasm al-Mazare, Zanouba, Tuwynah, Hassou, Taibat Dakej and Jibb Abyad from ISIS. The taking of these towns have, in turn, allowed the SAA to expand its zone of control north of ‘Uqayribat.

The latest advance throughout eastern Hama in particular has fully secured the section of highway that runs between the garrison towns of Sheikh Hilal and Ithriyah from any future attacks by ISIS.

Syrian Army kills high ranking Lebanese commander of ISIL in east Hama

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Israel tells UNIFIL Lebanese officer working as Hezbollah mole
[Ynet] Two days after Israel-US push succeeds in expanding UN peacekeeping mission’s responsibilities in restraining Hezbollah’s military ambitions, IDF presents UNIFIL with intelligence demonstrating senior officer in the Lebanese army operating in south Leb is acting as an agent for the terror group; ’We expect UNIFIL to act against Hezbollah in light of this unambiguous information,’ says ambassador Danon.

Israel has informed the UN peacekeeping mission in south Leb that a senior officer in the Lebanese army, who presides over a command position near the country’s border with Israel, is using his position to advance interests of the Hezbollah terror group in the area.

According to the Israeli claims made to UNIFIL (United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
Interim Force in Leb), Hezbollah deliberately planted Major Yahya Husseini in the Lebanese army as part of a broader effort to boost its influence within the military.

Husseini, the Israelis said, acts as Hezbollah’s "liaison officer" and is in continuous contact with the organization’s murderous Moslems. Moreover, UNIFIL was told that he receives instructions from the organization and consistently provides it with information.

It is the first time that a well-known source with the military’s ranks has been exposed as a Hezbollah agent.

The IDF transferred the information to UNIFIL while demanding Husseini’s immediate removal. In addition, Israel’s ambassador to the UN Danny Danon raised the subject on Thursday during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, along with US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley
...first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley is the youngest current governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
and with other international ambassadors whose country’s support the Lebanese army, including La Belle France, and urged their immediate intervention.

"Hezbollah is planning for the next military campaign against Israel and is using officers in the Lebanese army as terror operatives who help it against against the IDF along the border," Danon said.

"UNIFIL must immediately act in accordance with its new mandate and stop the infiltration of Hezbollah into the Lebanese army. We expect UNIFIL to act against Hezbollah in light of this unambiguous information."

Two days ago, the UN Security Council approved widening UNIFIL’s mandate in south Leb to include a range of additional responsibilities.

From now on, UNIFIL will be required to provide a greater volume of reports to the Security Council and intensify efforts to prevent violations of Resolution 1701.

According to the decision, which was pushed by the US and Israel, the peacekeeping mission’s presence will be augmented and will also conduct patrols of territory controlled by Hezbollah.

The Lebanese army enjoys large financial injections from numerous countries, including the US, La Belle France and other countries which also supply it with weaponry.

Europe
Finnish police release one more held over Aug 18 knife attack
[Ynet] Finnish police on Friday released another of the men suspected of involvement in fatal stabbings in the city of Turku on Aug. 18, leaving just one suspect in jug.

Officers jugged
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
seven people after the attack and have now released six of them without charge.

Two women died and eight people were maimed in the mid-August knife attack, which police are investigating as Finland's first terrorism-related assault.

The main suspect, who is in pre-trial detention pending an investigation, has been named as Abderrahman Bouanane, a 22-year-old Moroccan asylum seeker.
This would be the gentleman who previously identified himself to the Finnish authorities as Abderrahman Mechkah, age 18. He arrived in Germany in 2015, where he was picked up in a number of cities for illegal entry and criminal assault, and gave a number of aliases before moving on to apply for asylum in Finland in 2016. He went on a knifing rampage when it became clear Finland would not grant him asylum, though he seems to think this is not terrorism. The police stopped him by shooting him in the fleshy part of his upper thigh, or thereabouts.
He told a court last week he was responsible for the attack but denied his motive was terrorism.

-Land of the Free
This Week in Guns, September 2nd, 2017

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

It was stunning to watch the socialist left suddenly do a 180 degree turn in condemning Antifa for the pack of thugs nearly all Rantburgers always knew they were.

Sam Culper at Forward Observer Magazine posted a helpful summary on intelligence gathering for incidents such as the planned riots Antifas always seem to find themselves in the middle of. Culper also hosts two day conferences around the country on intelligence gathering, and as I recall, it is not very expensive to attend.

I often read about the John Brown Gun Club in Arizona, which features young leftwing men and wimmin carrying firearms as part of demonstrations that say, yes, we have guns, too. But as Antifa has demonstrated time and again, their activity serves two purposes.

First is to fulfill a desire among leftists that they will get a crack at a conservative man.

And for the second purpose: if they can get a conservative to fight back, and they can get him arrested, he is automatically disarmed under the firearms laws. A twofer!

I reupped my NRA membership Thursday. The last issue of American Rifleman had an article about the 6.5mm Creedmoor cartridge. A lot of nice things are being said about the 6.5mm Creedmore of late, such as its cost is similar to the 7.62mm NATO cartridge. Its flight performance exceeds the 7.62mm NATO round and it compares favorably to the .300 Winchester Magnum 150 grain bullet.

In the article, tests were conducted with the 120 grain bullet and the 143 grain bullet. The 7.62mm NATO round can be sold in sizes of up to a 240 grain subsonic slug to the 100 grain hollow point. In all there is a dizzingly wide variety of 38 slugs to chose from. The 6.5mm Creedmoor has 13 slugs to choose from. The .300 Winchester Magnum has 22 slugs to choose from.

As for costs of used 7.62mm NATO semiautomatic rifles, the highest low price I have recorded in this column has been $2,750, and the lowest has been $500, for a median price of $950.

I checked Armslist for semiautomatic rifles for the 6.5mm Creedmoor and the .300 Winchester Magnum.

For the .300 Winchester Magnum, from a list of 24 semiautomatic firearms nationwide, the highest priced rifle was a Nemo Arms Omen, for $4,800. The lowest was $675, for a rechambered Browning BAR. the median price was $2,737.

For the 6.5mm Creedmoor, I found 44 semiautomatic rifles on Armslist.com. The highest priced rifle was a Howa side charger for $5,300, and the lowest was $1,000, for a median price of $4,300.

The advantage the 6.5mm Creedmoor round has over the .300 Winchester Magnum is that it can fit into standard .308/7.62mm magazines. Fultom Armory offers 6.5mm Creedmoor uppers for PSA generation one lowers, for about $1,200. The total for a Creedmoor build including the receiver, comes to $1,700, and that is before you start considering optics, which for good optics, will add as much as $4,000 at the high end, about $400 for a new Leupold scope at the low end.

When I considered building a 7.62mm NATO semiautomatic, the complete upper assembly for a 26 inch barrel was $700. My build would come to around $1,000, not including optics.

Hershel Smith has a couple of posts which discuss the Creedmoor.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were mixed. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were mostly higher. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIL mass retreating to Deir Ezzor for epic battle
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has been advancing through several kilometers of desert terrain recently, placing them in prime position to reach the lovely provincial capital of Deir Ezzor by the end of September.

As a result of this massive advance by the government forces, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
has been forced to abandon several areas along the Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor Highway.

According to a government source, a large number of Islamic State hard boyz have been moved from the Syrian Desert to western Deir Ezzor countryside in anticipation for the Syrian Arab Army’s eventual attack to lift the siege on the lovely provincial capital.

With thousands of ISIS bandidos Death Eaters in-and-around the town of al-Shoula and Panorama area of western Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army will have to prepare for heavy resistance from the terrorist forces who already have their backs against the wall in the province.

If the Syrian Army manages to lift the siege on Deir Ezzor City, they will have to prepare for arguably the largest and most violent battle with the Islamic State forces in this six year long conflict.

VIDEO: Countless Syrian Army tanks, vehicles rushed to Deir Ezzor frontier

[AlMasdar] The Al-Ghadeer media group has released a front-line report showing mechanized forces of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) being rushed to eastern Syria in preparation for further offensive actions against ISIS forces in Deir Ezzor Governorate.

The front-line report appears to have been shot on the al-Sukhnah axis of the Syrian Army’s advance towards the middle Euphrates region where pro-government forces are now about 50 kilometers away from the besieged city of Deir Ezzor.

In the video can be seen many T-72 main battle tanks as well as some T-62 tanks, a BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle and number of cannon-armed gun-trucks being moved to and positioned near the front-line in eastern Syria.

Two T-72 tanks spotted near the end of the video appear to be highly modified urban-warfare specialist designs as seen in use with the 4th Mechanized Division, indicating that elements of this army formation may be participating in the final drive on Deir Ezzor city.

Two More Germans Arrested in Turkey 'for Political Reasons'

...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
"for political reasons", Berlin said Friday, bringing the total number of German political prisoners in Ottoman Turkish custody to 12 amid badly frayed ties between the countries.

"On August 31, two German nationals were detained in Turkey for political reasons," foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Adebahr said, adding that the ministry was trying to provide consular assistance.

The consulate in the western city of Izmir was first informed of the arrests. Confirmation then came not from the Ottoman Turkish government but from Antalya airport police, Adebahr said.

She declined to give further details about the case, saying only that German authorities had so far not been allowed access to the pair.

"Our demands to Turkey are very clear," said Chancellor Angela Merkel

's front man Steffen Seibert. "We expect Turkey to release the German nationals who were arrested on unjustifiable grounds."

Of the 55 Germans currently detained in Turkey, 12 of them -- including four with dual German-Ottoman Turkish citizenship -- are being held for political reasons, the foreign ministry said.

Among those arrested is Ottoman Turkish-German journalist Deniz Yucel, the Istanbul correspondent of the Die Welt daily, who has now spent 200 days in Ottoman Turkish custody ahead of trial on terror charges.

German journalist Mesale Tolu has been held on similar charges since May, while human rights

Erdogan added to the tensions this month when he urged ethnic Turks in Germany to vote in September 24 elections against Merkel's conservatives and their coalition partners the Social Democrats.

The escalating tensions have split the Ottoman Turkish community in Europe's top economy, the largest diaspora abroad, which is a legacy of Germany's "guest worker" program of the 1960s and 70s.

UK to Send More Troops to Iraq to Bolster Anti-IS Fight
[AnNahar] Britannia will send a small contingent of expert troops to Iraq to help coalition forces drive out Islamic State

jihadists, Defense Minister Michael Fallon has said.

"We are stepping up our contribution to the fight against ISIS (IS) and fulfilling Britannia's role as a key player in the global coalition," Fallon said in a statement.

"These extra troops will help support operations to bring the defeat of ISIS a step closer."

The 44 Royal Engineers are to be deployed for six months at the al-Asad airbase in Anbar Province, in western Iraq, to build infrastructure including accommodation and offices.

This brings the number of British troops at the airbase to more than 300 and the total in Iraq to around 600.

The airbase also houses hundreds of U.S. advisers as well as Iraqi and Danish troops.

Jail term for US man who illegally shared nuclear tech
[BBC] An American man has been sentenced to two years in jail for illegally helping China develop its nuclear power programme.

Szuhsiung Ho, aka Allen Ho, helped Chinese efforts to develop nuclear power for almost 20 years, said the US Department of Justice.

Ho was prosecuted because he did not obtain explicit permission to share "sensitive" nuclear technologies.

He was also fined $20,000 (£15,500) for breaking the US tech transfer rules.

Ho, who was born in Taiwan but became a naturalised US citizen, worked as a senior engineer for China's largest nuclear power company and also lead a Delaware-based company called Energy Technology International.

The DoJ said Ho aided China by recruiting engineers and other experts to advise it on faster ways to design and build components for some types of nuclear reactors.

The intellectual and engineering aid he helped funnel toward China helped it reduce costs and cut development time for novel reactor types, said the Justice department.

It also helped with work China was carrying out on fuel assembly systems and sensors to monitor power plant cores.

The Grand Turk
Turkey's Erdogan slams US indictments as 'scandalous'
[Al Ahram] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
on Friday denounced the indictments in the United States of 19 people, among them 15 Ottoman Turkish security officials, calling them "scandalous."

The 19 suspects have been accused of attacking peaceful demonstrators gathered outside the Ottoman Turkish ambassador's Washington home during a visit by Erdogan in May.

Videos show Erdogan supporters and security guards in suits and green uniforms hitting the protestors as police try to quash the violence. Some protestors are heard shouting "Baby killer Erdogan" and "Long live YPG," a Syrian Kurdish bad boy group that has become a sore spot in U.S.-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

relations.

Erdogan said his security detail was protecting him from members of the bad boy group after U.S. police failed to do so.

Turkey considers the YPG a terror organization and an extension of Kurdish forces of Evil waging a three-decade-long insurgency against the Ottoman Turkish state, but the group is a key U.S. ally in Syria against the Islamic State

group.

The bodyguards "performed their duties against this attack," Erdogan said and accused the U.S. of protecting a terror group. Nine people were hurt in the attack.

Sixteen of the defendants were charged in June while a grand jury decision on Tuesday added three more suspects, among them the head of security, Muhsin Kose.

#1  If we have any nukes in that country, we need a serious purge of some senior military. The same types who said the loss of Subic and/or Clark would kill our security in the Pacific and dragged us for years in the mess called the Philippines.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Jihadist rebels launch surprise assault in west Aleppo
[AlMasdar] The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
...previously known as Al Nusra -- Al Qaeda's Syrian branch...
launched a surprise overnight assault in the western sector of Aleppo, targeting the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) held areas in the al-Layramoun and al-Zahra quarters, along with an attack in the New Aleppo District.

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham began the assault by launching a barrage of missiles and mortar shells towards the government areas in west Aleppo; this resulted in a short exchange of hostilities before intense festivities broke-out east of the Scientific Research Facility.

Clashes would later spread from the aforementioned part of the New Aleppo District to the al-Zahra Association and al-Layramoun quarters, where the Syrian Arab Army and their allies were able to beat back the encroaching jihadist rebels and restore order to the area.

Since the call to prayer this morning, the city of Aleppo has experienced relative calm after nearly three hours of intense fighting between the jihadist rebels and Syrian military overnight.
