ESPN To Cancel Evening ESPNews; Contracts Won't Be Renewed
This is in addition to Fred's post of 150 ESPN'ers getting the holiday axe, below. I think they're trotting this stuff out in dribs & drabs in an effort to contain the damage / bad P.R.
[AwfulAnnouncing] Big changes are coming to ESPN’s SportsCenter. Executive vice-president (production, executive editor) Norby Williamson took over responsibility for that franchise back in September, and soon afterwards, multiple reports from October and early November indicated ESPN was planning large layoffs that could impact SC, with Sports Illustrated’s Richard Deitsch writing that over 100 staffers would be laid off and "The SportsCenter franchise is expected to be hit hard‐including on-air people." The layoffs that occurred Wednesday affected around 150 staffers, but didn’t hit on-air talent after all.

But it looks like ESPN is still planning to lower its numbers of SportsCenter anchors, and they’re certainly going to be cutting back on the numbers of editions of SportsCenter they air, ending their evening ESPNews editions as of Thursday. Williamson detailed that in a memo posted to the company’s own ESPN Front Row site Wednesday:

IDF tanks, aircraft fire on Gaza after mortar attack
[Jpost] IDF tanks and aircraft fired towards four positions in the Gaza Strip Thursday in response to mortar fire from the Palestinian enclave a short while ago.

According to the IDF, Palestinian factions fired projectiles towards an army outpost north of the Gaza Strip.

The mortar fire, set off alarms that were heard in the city of Sderot and the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council. The army said those warnings were false alarms.

In a statement, the IDF said it holds Hamas responsible for everything that happens in the Gaza Strip.

Europe
Netanyahu to tell EU next month: Tell your people what Israel provides
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to tell the 28 EU Foreign Minister at a meeting next month in Brussels that they should ask their people whether they want all that Israel has to offer ‐ anti-terror expertise and technology ‐ or Ramallah.

Netanyahu, who over the last year has raised with every visiting EU foreign minister his desire to address all 28 foreign ministers at one of their monthly meetings, received a formal invitation on Tuesday to do just that.

According to a senior diplomatic official, Netanyahu is expected to tell the European leaders that their obsessive focus on the settlements is "ridiculous," remind them that the Arab-Israeli conflict predated the settlements by 50 years, and say that 85 percent of the settlements are in the settlement blocks that "everyone knows will be part of Israel."

In addition, the official said, he will go on record saying that "we in Israel are the future, we will bring you water, technology and security against terrorists ‐ we have blocked 30 to 40 major attacks in Europe. You ask your people whether they would rather have that, or Ramallah."
The People may want a lot of things, but the leaders want Israel gone - it's a bad example to their people, showing that Islam can be resisted.

Bangkok photo: US tourists held for baring buttocks at Thai temple
[BBC] Two US citizens are being held in Thailand after they posted an online picture of themselves posing with their buttocks exposed at a temple.

The tourists had taken the picture at Bangkok's famous Wat Arun temple and posted it on Twitter and Instagram.

Immigration authorities told the BBC the pair, Joseph and Travis Dasilva, both 38, would be fined and deported.

Thailand has very strict laws on behaviour considered disrespectful and offensive to its Buddhist religion.

The two tourists were held late on Tuesday when trying to leave the country at Bangkok's Don Mueang airport.

Leftest AARP sez: 5.2 million seniors could see taxes increased by GOP bill
[The Hill] Millions of senior citizens could see tax increases under the Senate version of the GOP's tax-reform plan, according to an analysis from the AARP.

In an article published Wednesday on the group's website, the AARP's vice president and policy director argue that 1 in 5 seniors,
...that’s 20% of ‘em...
about 6.3 million taxpayers, will see either no change or a tax increase in 2019 under the plan passed by the Senate Budget Committee. Of those individuals, 1.2 million people would get a tax hike.
Roughly one in six of one in five... that’s 1/6 x 1/5 or 1/(6x5) = 1/30 or 3% of seniors, unless I got the math wrong. Given that seniors are the wealthiest age group of the American population, AARP is complaining that the group the Left so strongly maligns, “the 1%,” will not benefit from the bill. This is why I send their membership letters back.
The authors argue that number will jump "more than four times" by 2027 to 5.2 million seniors "as a result of sunsetting the middle-class tax cuts."

Another issue of concern for older Americans, the AARP says, is the automatic cuts to Medicare and other services under the GOP plan.

"The bottom line is that even today’s 65+ as well as those who turn 65 by 2027 who benefit initially may end up paying higher and ever increasing taxes soon thereafter," the authors write.

"Further, as the result of growing deficits, they may receive reduced value from Medicare or other programs that are central to older Americans’ wellbeing."

The Senate Finance Committee approved the chamber's tax bill earlier this month, and on Tuesday, the Senate Budget Committee advanced the bill on a party-line vote. It will now head to the full Senate floor for a vote.

Rancher Cliven Bundy Refuses to Leave Jail Despite Judges Offer
[FoxNews] Cliven Bundy, the 71-year-old rancher who sparked a national debate over states’ rights, refused a federal judge’s offer to be released from jail during his ongoing trial on Wednesday.

Bundy, who engaged in an armed standoff with government agents over a cattle round-up in 2014, turned down the judge’s option of house arrest while others involved in the standoff are still jailed awaiting trial.

A federal grand jury in Nevada indicted Cliven and four others on 16 charges related to the armed standoff near his ranch over unpaid grazing fees last year.

U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro, meantime, said Ammon Bundy and co-defendant Ryan Payne can be freed Thursday to home detention.

The judge also said another Bundy son, Ryan, can now split time between home and a halfway house while serving as his own attorney in the case.

The decision involving the four defendants came amid questions about whether federal prosecutors in Las Vegas have turned over complete evidence records to defense teams.

Bret Whipple, Cliven Bundy's attorney, told Fox News that a motion to dismiss the case entirely on Wednesday morning was denied. The court then unilaterally had a detention hearing regarding custody of the defendants.

It was subsequently granted that Cliven Bundy, Ammon Bundy and Ryan Payne be released from detention for the duration of the trial.

Turkish Police Move to Arrest 333 Soldiers over Gulen Links
The deliberate trade of operational effectiveness for ideological purity continues.
[AnNahar] Ottoman Turkish police have launched raids in 49 cities to detain over 300 soldiers accused of links to the group blamed for last year's attempted coup, state media reported Wednesday.

The Istanbul public prosecutor issued arrest warrants for 360 people as part of a probe into followers of US-based Moslem holy man Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
in the Ottoman Turkish armed forces, state-run news agency
...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
Anadolu said.

Those targeted include 333 soldiers, as well as 27 civilians suspected of being so-called "secret imams" who are alleged to be in charge of Gulenists
... the Turkish version of the Boogie Man, who set fire to the Turkish Reichsstag...
in the military.

Two of the soldiers were detained in the northern city of Zonguldak, Anadolu said.

It said they will be taken to Istanbul where the investigation into the Gulen "structure" in the military is taking place.

Of the 360 sought, 216 were soldiers on active duty, the private Dogan news agency said. Seven of the suspects sought are pilots.

- The characters will be used for pamphlets and gifts to promote the city's bid

- Osaka is competing against cities in France, Russia, and Azerbaijan for the expo

Israeli court sentences 3 Palestinians to life for 2016 shooting
[PRESSTV] An Israeli court has sentenced three Paleostinians to life in prison over a gun attack that left four people dead at a popular Tel Aviv nightspot last year.

The Tel Aviv district court on Wednesday sentenced cousins Mohammad Makhamrah and Khaled Makhamrah and accomplice Younes Zein each to four consecutive life sentences, one for each death. An additional 60 years were handed down for the 41 counts of attempted murder.

The court said that Zein supplied the weapons to Makhamrah cousins and helped plan the assault.

According to the sentence, the three were also ordered by the court to pay compensation to the families of the dear departed and maimed.

The court said three people were rubbed out, while a fourth died of a heart attack during the shooting spree. Four people were seriously maimed, while another 37 suffered lighter injuries or shock.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wine tasting, Vince was about to start on his third quart...
Khaled Mahajneh, a lawyer with the Paleostinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), said an Israeli settler who was present at the court attempted to assault the three prisoners with a sharp instrument.

Last month, the trio were found guilty over the June 2016 attack at Sarona Market, a restaurant and shopping complex.

Initial reports at the time said that the attackers were dressed as ultra-Orthodox Jews, but the police later claimed that they were of Paleostinian origin.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIS makes its final stand against the Syrian Army in the least expected place
[ALMASDARNEWS] With ISIS resistance along the western shore of the Euphrates all but liquidated, evidence is now beginning to emerge that sheds light on the intensity of the final set-piece battle between the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and the Syrian Arab Army in eastern Syria, one which took place in the least expected location.

As can now be seen, ISIS fighters operating on the Euphrates’ western bank chose to make their final stand in and between the towns of al-Qurayya and al-Asharah, these being two settlements otherwise unheard of and small in comparison to cities like Deir Ezzor, al-Mayadeen and Abu Kamal where it was thought the most fanatical resistance would be encountered.

At al-Qurayya and al-Asharah, ISIS fought ‐ speaking strictly in military terms (not moral terms) ‐ an admirable rear-guard action.

Terrorist forces of Evil ‐ outnumbered, outgunned and pounded remorselessly from the air by Russian heavy bombers on a daily basis ‐ managed to hold off the best units of the Syrian Arab Army for over two weeks and buy time enough for other fighters to withdraw to the eastern shore of the Euphrates where they will most likely surrender to US-backed forces.

Through a combination explosive traps, boom-mobiles, snipers and a general unwillingness among jihadist forces of Evil to give up their positions until the last man had been killed, ISIS inflicted heavy losses on the Syrian Army, repelled multiple assaults and even launched several successful counter-attacks which saw it reclaim lost positions a number of times over.

The line at which ISIS made its last stand was part of a greater defensive belt running from Muhassan to Abu Kamal. This defense line was mostly bypassed by pro-government forces and with the rapid capture of al-Mayadeen and Abu Kamal, it was thought that the belt had been shattered.

Al-Shabaab militants kill 2 police officers in coastal Kenya
[RADIOSHABELLE] Somali Death Eater group al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
on Tuesday killed two coppers and injured two others in Kenya’s coastal town of Lamu in its latest attack in the tourism resort region.

Coast Regional Police Commander Larry Kieng said the officers were escorting a convoy of six buses when they were ambushed along the Malindi Lamu highway.

Kieng said a group of heavily armed Lions of Islam emerged from the forest and sprayed a police escort vehicle with bullets that had four occupants.

"During the shootout, two officers were killed and two others injured. The officers were evacuated to Lamu hospital with serious bullet wounds," Kieng told Xinhua by phone.

The police commander said no passenger was injured during the incident since the majority were Moslem.

"The Lions of Islam demanded passengers’ manifests that indicated that they were Moslems. They were spared after a Somali passenger pleaded with them to let the buses pass," Kieng said.

The Lions of Islam gave the passengers Jihad leaflets/CD cards before letting all the buses to proceed their destinations.

IS Silent on Egypt Massacre Decried Even by Supporters
[AnNahar] The button men who massacred more than 300 worshipers in an Egyptian mosque made no effort to conceal their identity -- they showed up raising the black banner of the self-styled "Islamic State

IS supporters on social media were livid when a purported audio recording of wireless communications between an IS member boasting about the attack, and another noting down details, spread on pro-Qaeda Telegram channels.
The group's murderous Moslems had previously warned the North Sinai mosque associated with Sufis to end the mystical practices IS calls heretical, even visiting the mosque in person a few weeks before the attack, a Sufi sheikh said.

#3  Everyone belongs to God, newc, even unto ISIS. But it is important to remember that Sufism is not a mystical, gentle, and loving form of Islam that rejects jihad and dhimmitude, but rather a mystical form of Islam that has historically demanded jihad and abuse of dhimmis just like the rest of the religion. This Andrew Bostum essay from 2005 lays out in detail how harsh Sufis have been across the breadth and history of Islam.

But I came across that piece many years ago, and it struck me as important as histories laying out how ungolden for the dhimmis was Spain’s Muslim “Gooden Age”, so I saved the link. Both the peaceful mysticism of the Sufis and the magnanimous behaviour of the conquerers of Spain are frequently and wrongly held up as reasons not to fuss about the current colonization — and both are dangerously wrong.

Arizona: Man fatally shot following assault on Border Patrol agent
[KGUN] A man has been fatally shot after he assaulted a Border Patrol agent.

The shooting happened just before noon today in a remote area of the Baboquivari Mountain Range west of Three Points.

The agent discharged his service issued sidearm, hitting a man who has assaulted him. The man has since succumbed to his injuries.

The man fatally shot was one of several in a group of suspected illegal aliens, according to a media release.

Three members of the group are currently in custody, and agents are searching the area for others.

This incident is under investigation by the FBI, CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility, and Tohono O’odham Nation Police Department.

was dramatically arrested on Monday and charged with trying to obtain a semi-automatic rifle to gun down revellers in Melbourne's Federation Square.

Ali, 20, was reportedly targeted by ASIO because of his links to a radicalised 15-year-old boy who killed Curtis Cheng.

He was well-connected to Australian jihadist circles including multiple other terror suspects and bad boy preacher Junaid Thorne.

Ali was also friends with Farhad Jabar, 15, who rubbed out NSW police accountant Curtis Cheng outside the police centre in Parramatta in 2015.

He once boasted to a group of Islamic gunnies about how he had refused to speak to ASIO agents who offered him money for information about his links to Jabar.

Ali claimed agents offered him $200 for every tip he gave them about bad boy activity in his community, but he refused to dob in Moslems because it was 'haram'.

'I know their tricks and whatever you say to them they will use as evidence against you,' Ali said.

'They start to get to the real questions, like who are your friends with, what do you think about ISIS, what are your thoughts about those groups.

Honolulu Police Order Medical Cardholders to Surrender Their Firearms
The Honolulu Police Department is ordering medical marijuana cardholders to surrender their firearms within a 30-day window of time.

KITV reports that Honolulu police are doing this via letters to cardholders demanding they "surrender weapons, permits, and ammunition to HPD or to transfer ownership."

On November 28 The Honolulu Star reported that police have been sending letters throughout the year and the one dated November 13 was signed by HPD chief Susan Ballard. It says, "Your medical marijuana use disqualifies you from ownership of firearms and ammunition."

Ballard points to Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 134-7 (a), which says, "No person who is a fugitive from justice or is a person prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law shall own, possess, or control any firearm or ammunition therefor."

On August 31, 2016, Breitbart News reported that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that a ban on gun ownership for medical marijuana users is constitutional. The decision was based on the fact that marijuana use remains illegal on the federal level, whether state-sanctioned or not. This means medical marijuana cardholders cannot pass background check form 4473 and, therefore, cannot legally purchase a firearm.

Form 4473 asks if the would-be firearm purchaser is "an unlawful user of...marijuana." No one who answers "yes" to that question can purchase a gun.

#3  This is probably easier than asking actual felons to surrender weapons. As to the federal statutes concerning marijuana who do we blame. W R Hearst? Institutional racism towards Hispanilcs? B'crat inertia? IMO marijuana probably causes no more harm to society than alcohol does. Harder drugs, cocaine, heroin, etc are a great concern to me. Ultimately we need two solutions to the drug problem. One will need to be technological. Be it some sort of implant or some other medical technology. The other has to be social solution. Unfortunately drugs can be seen as exotic, daring and as a symbol of youthful rebellion. We need drugs to be seen as something only losers do

Owners of guns unlawfully confiscated locally in Hurricane Katrina in NO had a great deal of difficulty getting their firearms returned. They had to go through the courts to get relief. However, ATF Form 4473 now reads as of 2016:

ATF Form 4473: 11e. Are you an unlawful user of, addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside.

In Colorado, where marijuana is legal, they will not issue you a concealed carry permit if you use or have been issued a medical card and can even seize weapons if they feel you are a threat to the public while on controlled drugs. All in accordance to federal and state laws.

What we really need is a movement on the federal level to redo drug and gun laws to fix this mess.

Gunmen kill one, injure four in attack on Shia mosque in Pakistan
[PRESSTV] One person has been killed and at least four others injured when button men shot up worshipers leaving a Shia mosque in Pakistain’s capital, Islamabad.

Police said on Wednesday that the shooting erupted outside the Bab-ul-Ilm mosque following evening prayers in Islamabad's I-8 sector.

"Two button men approached a water cooler installed outside the mosque's main gate and filled their glasses with water, then opened fire indiscriminately on people as they came out," local police official Qasim Ahmad said.

He said the assailants arrived on foot and then fled after the shooting, disappearing into a nearby greenbelt.

No group has so far grabbed credit for the attack.

Shias make up about 20 percent of Pakistain's population of nearly 200 million.

Security has been a main issue for the Shias as thousands of them have been killed as a result of militancy and hate attacks over the past decade.

Critics blame the Pak government and some elements within intelligence services for unwillingness to protect Shia Moslems and moderate Sunnis across the violence-wracked country.

International organizations and rights groups have urged the Pak government to take decisive action against the forces involved in the assassinations.

Bosnian-Croat war chief kills himself with poison during his his war crimes trial at The Hague
[DailyMail] The Bosnian-Croat war chief who killed himself with poison during his war crimes trial at The Hague was 'easily' able to smuggle the deadly liquid into the building, a prominent lawyer says.

It's still not clear, however, how Slobodan Praljak, 72, obtained the poison while in custody, as he was serving his 20-year sentence in an undisclosed UN prison cell and was driven each day to the court in a secure van for his appeal hearing.

Praljak yelled, 'I am not a war criminal!' and drank a dark liquid from a small bottle seconds after losing his appeal against a 20-year prison sentence at the International Criminal Tribunal in the Netherlands on Wednesday.

'I just drank poison,' he added. 'I am not a war criminal. I oppose this conviction.'
I guess that will show them.

The state security court found the 52-year-old guilty of "conspiracy to carry out terrorist acts," an AFP correspondent at the courthouse said.

in November 2016 as he plotted to attack the sprawling Muwaffaq Salti air base in the country’s eastern desert, the staging point for aerial sorties by the US-led coalition fighting IS in Iraq and Syria, the court said.

It said the man had been in contact with IS operatives in Raqa, the group’s former Syria stronghold, who asked him to "carry out military operations targeting officers and members of the Jordanian military intelligence services."

He had also been told to monitor the base and had passed intelligence to IS on its layout and how it was guarded.

Since IS took over swathes of Iraq and Syria in 2014, Jordan, a key US ally, has used its own air force and allowed US-led coalition forces to use its bases.

Surrendering to mob rule
[DAWN] THERE has hardly been an instance where the state has capitulated so humiliatingly to a group of Death Eaters holding the nation’s capital hostage. The six-point agreement brokered by the military leadership is virtually a document of surrender. A beleaguered civilian administration has signed on the dotted line conceding all the demands of holy mans named in what is described as the Fourth Schedule of the police department, or the bad boy watch list.

Not only has the law minister been forced to resign, those involved in attacks on the law-enforcement agencies and engaged in unlawful activities are also to be compensated. While the cases against the rioters are withdrawn the government has agreed to investigate the action taken by the law-enforcement agencies that were following court orders. The holy man leading the protesters claims the administration has promised to do more than what has been stipulated in the agreement.

All claims about the rule of law and authority of the state were cast to the wind in order to appease a few thousand zealots. Those behind the casualties suffered by the police during the operation are forgiven. Most intriguing is that a senior ISI officer is also a signatory to the sordid deal along with the interior minister. It is hard to recall another instance of an intelligence official involved in brokering a deal between the government and Death Eaters challenging the writ of the state here.

Elite Syrian Army division to head operation in Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army’s elite Tiger Forces division will be redeployed to the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate once they complete their operation in southeast Deir Ezzor, a military source told al-Masdar News this evening.

According to the source, the Tiger Forces will specifically be deployed to the Abu Dali axis in northern Hama, where they will head the operation to enter the southeastern part of the Idlib Governorate.

With the 3rd and 5th legions already pushing towards the Abu Dhuhour Military Airport from the southern Aleppo axis, the Tiger Forces should be able to help speed up this assault with a major assault from the Abu Dali axis.

Abu Dali is an important town in northern Hama that was captured by the al-Qaeda linked Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group in late September of this year.

Eastern Ghouta shelled despite 'truce agreement'
[Al Jazeera] Syrian government forces have shelled a rebel-held enclave near the capital Damascus, according to a monitor, despite the announcement of a truce a day earlier.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the towns of Douma and Arbin in Eastern Ghouta were targeted on Wednesday with artillery shells. At least one person was killed in Arbin as a result of the shelling.

Misraba and Ein Tarma, two other towns in the district, were also struck, but only material damage was reported.

The reported shelling came after Staffan de Mistura, UN envoy to Syria, announced on Tuesday that the Syrian government had agreed to a Russian plan for a truce in Eastern Ghouta, following days of intense bombardment.

Egypt’s El-Sisi repeats order to restore security in Sinai with 'all brute force'
[ARABNEWS] Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has given the army and the Interior Ministry three months to restore security in the Sinai Peninsula with freedom to use "all brute force."

This comes a week after 311 Egyptian worshippers were killed and 128 others injured in a terrorist attack on a mosque in North Sinai during Friday prayers; it was the deadliest terror attack in Egypt’s modern history.

El-Sisi has promised massive development for the Bir al-Abd area in North Sinai where the attack took place. "We will make Bir al-Abd a city that is referred to as a model of prosperity and development; we can never allow anyone to do such a thing again to our people," El-Sisi said on Wednesday morning.

El-Sisi issued his orders in public, addressing the Army Chief of Staff, Mohammed Farid Hegazy, who led the military salute to the president.

The Egyptian president repeated the phrase "brute force" in what appeared to be a response to criticism in a number of foreign newspapers and on social networking sites after the phrase was used last Friday to describe the response to any future terrorist acts.

The uproar prompted presidential front man Bassam Radhi to explain that what El-Sisi meant by "brute force" was "the ferocious force that mercilessly oppresses the aggressor, pursues the terrorists, and kills them all."

Radhi said on Saturday that the incident underscored the despair of the forces of extremism and revealed their ugly face. "The more their strength weakens, the more they want to inflict greater losses because they have been completely routed."

He stressed that Egypt would avenge the victims of the mosque attack and that the perpetrators of the atrocity would not escape punishment.

No group has grabbed credit for the al-Rawdah mosque attack in Bir al-Abd. The Egyptian public prosecutor’s office, however, said that gunnies carrying flags of ISIS opened fire on worshippers inside the mosque and on those who tried to escape after an bomb exploded.

Philippine Troops Kill 14 Communist Rebels in Clash South of Manila

"I cannot give you what I do not own, and certainly a coalition government with the Republic of the Philippines is pure nonsense," said the Philippine president.

The Philippine president has said he will treat these communist rebels as hard boyz and criminals.

15 Maoist militants killed in Batangas battle
[Inquirer] Fifteen New People Army rebels, including a female student of the University of the Philippines Manila and four other women, were killed in a battle with government troops in Batangas province on Tuesday night. The gun battle came days after President Rodrigo Duterte called off peace talks with the Maoist militants.

Philippine officials said the dead rebels comprised the western Batangas command of the NPA, armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

The clash capped a series of skirmishes since last week between the militants and the Philippine Air Force, which conducts counterinsurgency operations in Batangas province.

Maj. Engelberto Nioda Jr., commander of the PAF 730th Combat Group, said authorities were tipped off to the presence of vehicles in Nasugbu, 65 kilometers south of Manila.

Joint police and military checkpoints were set up on the routes to Calatagan and Balayan towns after they received information about vehicles “full of armed rebels”.

Provincial police director Alden Delvo said the intel they received was that a three-vehicle convoy would carry the militants. But the authorities encountered two in the adjacent villages of Aga and Kaylaway, along the dimly lit part of the Tagaytay-Nasugbu highway. Delvo said, "The jeep did not stop [for inspection] and [the passengers] opened fire at our troops."

The firefight prompted a 2-kilometer chase. In a phone interview, Major Engelberto Nioda said, "It seemed like a convoy. First a Montero [carrying PAF troops], then the enemy’s van, then three more [government] vehicles, the jeep, then us."

Five people from the jeep and nine from the van were killed.

The authorities said the slain rebels were the ones involved in a series of clashes in the villages of Utod and Bunducan, also in Nasugbu, after soldiers overran an NPA camp.

On November 24, Duterte told soldiers to expect “virulent” battles with the NPA after he scuttled peace talks with the communist insurgents. He accused the NPA of carrying out attacks despite his peace efforts.

Vassily Nebenzia has accused the US and its allies of trying to partition Syria by setting up local governing bodies in areas seized from terrorists, according to Russian media.

Nebenzia said Wednesday that the US-led coalition in Syria was discussing measures to restore the country's economy with the local governments instead of the Syrian government.

"What the coalition is doing amounts to concrete steps to partition the country," the official was quoted as saying at a United Nations Security Council session.

Russia has been conducting air raids against ISIS and other terrorist groups inside Syria at the Damascus government’s request since September 2015.

On the contrary, the US and its allies have been running a military campaign against purported terrorist targets in Syria since September 2014 without a mandate from the UN or Damascus, while backing gunnies fighting to topple the government of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

have killed four more soldiers as violence continues to plague government efforts for reaching a settlement with the secessionists.

Army and government sources said Wednesday that the four soldiers were "murdered" in Mamfe, a city in Cameroon’s Southwest Region, by those who promote "terrorism."

"Four soldiers were killed around 2:00 am around Mamfe," said an army source angrily, adding, "They murdered our soldiers. If that's not terrorism, what is it?"

A government source also confirmed the deaths although there was no more information on how the soldiers were killed.

List of demands put forward by TLY and accepted by govt for ending the Faizabad protest
[DAWN] The government on Monday gave in to the demands of Tehreek-i-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLY) in order to end the Faizabad sit-in.

The agreement document — bearing signatures of Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, TLY chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi, and Maj Gen Faiz Hameed, among others — lists the following demands put forward by TLY:
  • Remove Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid from his position immediately. "Tehreek-i-Labaik will issue no fatwa [religious decree] of any kind against him."

  • The report prepared by Raja Zafarul Haq-led committee will be made public within 30 days and whoever is named in the report for being responsible for the change in the election oath will be acted against under the law.

  • All protesters arrested between November 6 until the end of the sit-in from across the country will be released within one to three days according to legal requirements. The cases registered against them and the house arrests imposed on them will be ended.

  • An inquiry board will be established to probe and decide what action to take against the government and administration officials over the operation conducted by security forces against protesters on Saturday, November 25. The inquiry should be completed within 30 days and action will be taken against those found responsible.

  • The federal and provincial governments will determine and compensate for the loss of government and private assets incurred from November 6 until the end of the sit-in.

  • The points already agreed to concerning the Government of Punjab will be fully implemented.

The document ends by crediting Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and his representative team for their "special efforts" that led to the agreement being signed.

"We are thankful to him [Gen Bajwa] for saving the nation from a big catastrophe," the document concludes.

The agreement was also produced before the Islamabad High Court on Monday. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, raising a number of "alarming objections", asked the government to satisfy the court on the "role of armed forces as an arbitrator" in the agreement with the protesters.

'More demands have been accepted'
According to Rizvi, in addition to the demands mentioned on the document, the following conditions of TLY have also been accepted by the government:
  • A board of clerics led by Pir Muhammad Afzal Qadri will be set up to probe remarks made by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah against the persecution of Ahmedis. Sanaullah will have to accept the decision made by the board.

  • No difficulty will be faced in registering cases under clause 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code (blasphemy law).

  • No leniency will be given to those convicted by courts for blasphemy.

  • No ban will be imposed on the use of loudspeakers.

  • The foreign and interior ministries will take steps for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui after taking her mother and sister in confidence.

  • The holiday of Iqbal Day on November 9 will be revived.

  • Two representatives of Tehreek-i-Labaik will be included in the panel assigned to decide changes in the textbook board. The officials will push for inclusion of translation of the Holy Quran and chapters about Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) and Muslim leaders.

  • The chehlum of martyrs will be held on January 4 at Rawalpindi's Liaquat Bagh.

  • Every year, November 25 will be observed as "Martyrs of Prophet's honour day".

  • There has been no official confirmation or denial of agreeing to these demands from the government's side as yet.

Evan Mawarire, who launched the #ThisFlag protest campaign on social media, was found not guilty by High Court judge Priscilla Chigumba after state prosecutors failed to prove their case.

The ruling came as Zim-bob-weans wait to see whether new President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a former deputy of Mugabe, follows through on pledges of democracy after years of violations of basic freedoms.

There are still some Zim-bob-weans "in prison for political reasons, in terms of having stood up against the regime" of Mugabe, Mawarire said outside the courthouse in downtown Harare, the capital.

Ex-Egypt PM Ahmed Shafiq 'blocked from leaving UAE'
[Al Jazeera] A former Egyptian prime minister says he is not being allowed to leave the United Arab Emirates, the country where he has resided since 2012 after losing the Egyptian elections to Mohammed Morsi.

The reason for his travel ban is unknown, Ahmed Shafiq said in an exclusive video statement to Al Jazeera on Wednesday.

"I was surprised to know that I am prevented from leaving the UAE for reasons that I don’t understand and I am not willing to understand," he said.

Earlier in the day, Shafiq had announced that he intended to run in the 2018 presidential elections against current President Abdel Fateh el-Sisi.

Shafiq, who also participated in the 2012 Egyptian elections, said he wanted to head back to Egypt in the coming days.

Turkey hints at imminent Afrin operation
[ARABNEWS] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
’s top security body, the National Security Council (MGK), on Tuesday recommended that the government deploy forces around Syria’s Kurdish-held Afrin canton and in western Aleppo.

The MGK emphasized Turkey’s determination to secure its borders against terrorist groups. Afrin is controlled by the US-backed Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara views as the Syrian affiliate of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

On Monday, Ottoman Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli hinted at a possible operation in Afrin, saying such an operation "may be tomorrow or... sooner than tomorrow."

Last week, he said the PKK/YPG presence in Afrin poses a "serious danger and threat that should be removed in line with Turkey’s rights arising from international law."

The Ottoman Turkish military recently completed the formation of its third observation post in Syria’s northwest Idlib province, as part of a cease-fire co-guaranteed with Russia and Iran.

Earlier this month, Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
said his country needed to clear Afrin of the YPG after accomplishing its military operation in Idlib.

But Serhat Erkmen, a Middle East expert at the Ankara-based 21st Century Turkey Institute, told Arab News: "Following the agreement reached in Sochi last week between Moscow, Tehran and Ankara, a comprehensive military operation that would escalate regional tension is unlikely."

Turkish Army hammers Kurdish heartland in northwest Aleppo ahead of planned offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] Light skirmishes and heavy artillery exchanges continued between Kurdish and Ottoman Turkish belligerents in northwestern Aleppo on Wednesday amid reports of a looming Ottoman Turkish invasion into the Efrin enclave, a rural pocket controlled by the US-backed ’Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF).

With Ottoman Turkish reconnaissance planes observing the region around the clock, the Ottoman Turkish Army and allied Syrian rebel groups shelled Kurdish-led villages across the Bilbile district, targeting the SDF’s positions in a number of villages amid a constant flow of intelligence reports, satellite imagery and reconnaissance footage.

With some of the shells coming from inside The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
itself, the SDF came under fire in the villages of Dikmedash, Maranaz, Ayn Daqna, Yazibax, Basufane, Bedirxan, Barin, Bashur and Iki Dame. At one point during the afternoon, the artillery bombardment could be heard going on for a straight 40 minutes.

The SDF responded by shelling Ottoman Turkish-backed groups in the northern countryside of Aleppo but refrained from firing back across the border into Turkey.

Both sides have systematically refused to reveal any information regarding their corpse count while no territorial changes have happened in the past few months.

Nevertheless, persistent rumours indicate that Ankara intends to deploys its military against Kurdish forces in the Efrin region in order to secure its own border and simultaneously link the rebel pocket in northern Aleppo with the opposition mainland in Idlib.

So far, this preplanned Ottoman Turkish-led offensive is yet to come to fruition, likely due to political pressure from the United States and Russia, both of whom maintain ties to the SDF.

[RADIOSHABELLE] Somali prisoners serving various jail terms in Seychelles will be released December to serve the rest of their terms in Somali prisons, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Garaad had said.

In a statement from Seychelles, Garaad said among them is one prisoner who has completed his sentence in December.

"One of the convicted prisoners who completed his imprisonment term will be released in December 2017. The others prisoners have some years to go and the Seychelles authorities are ready to hand them over to the government of Somalia in December 2017," said Garaad.

"During the incidents a number of rocket propelled grenades were fired against the container ship," EU NAVFOR said. Palestinians agree to delay Gaza handover as unity deal founders
[IsraelTimes] Fatah and Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", announce postponement of key step in reconciliation until December 10, amid mutual recriminations.

Rival Paleostinian factions agreed Wednesday to postpone the handover of control over Gazoo from Hamas to Fatah, less than 48 hours before a deadline as part of an Egyptian-brokered reconciliation deal.

The announcement came at the last minute as the landmark Paleostinian unity deal faltered dangerously, with Fatah and Hamas accusing each other of not respecting the accord.

"Hamas and Fatah are asking Egypt to postpone the transfer of the government roles from December 1 to December 10 in order to finalize arrangements to ensure the completion of national reconciliation steps," said a statement from Hamas, the Islamist terror group that rules the Gazoo Strip.

Fayez Abu Eita, a front man for Fatah in Gazoo, said the same in remarks after the factions met in Gazoo City, noting it was in the interest of "achieving the goals of our people, achieving reconciliation and ending the division."

In previous days the two sides had traded accusations of failing to respect the October 12 agreement which was supposed to see Hamas hand over all governing duties in the enclave to the Fatah-dominated Paleostinian Authority by December 1.

Sharp disagreements remained between Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
’s Fatah, based in the West Bank, and Hamas, particularly over the fate of public employees in Gazoo and security control of the enclave.

Earlier on Wednesday, Fatah’s top negotiator, Azzam al-Ahmad, told AFP that Hamas was "not committed to the agreement it signed in Cairo."

"Until this moment, the problems and obstacles from Hamas are still there and are increasing," he said.

In response, senior Hamas official Bassem Naim accused Fatah of "maneuvers" to avoid going through with the deal.

Multiple previous reconciliation attempts have failed since Hamas seized control of Gazoo from Fatah in a violent coup in 2007.

Also Wednesday, in another sign of tension ahead of the deadline, PA employees were prevented by union delegates close to Hamas from returning to work at a number of ministries in the Gazoo Strip.

Fatah and Hamas traded accusations over the incident.

As tensions built, Abbas ordered an immediate stop to public statements on reconciliation "for the sake of the Paleostinian national interest and our relationship with our Egyptian brothers," official news agency WAFA said.

ESPN eliminating 150 production, tech jobs in latest cuts
What “Roll hard left and die” looks like.
[FOXSPORTS] ESPN is eliminating 150 production and technical employees as the sports broadcasting giant continues to shift its focus to a more digital future.

The company says the layoffs, which were announced Wednesday morning in a memo to employees, don’t include on-air talent and will have a minimal impact on the network’s signature SportsCenter news program.

"The majority of the jobs eliminated are in studio production, digital content, and technology and they generally reflect decisions to do less in certain instances and re-direct resources," ESPN president John Skipper wrote in memo.

Who Watches the Watchmen?
[VictorHanson] History shows that special counsels almost inevitably overstep their mandates.

Former FBI director Robert Mueller was supposed to run a narrow investigation into accusations of collusion between the Donald Trump campaign and the Russian government. But so far, Mueller’s work has been plagued by almost daily improper leaks (e.g., "sources report," "it emerged," "some say") about investigations that seem to have little to do with his original mandate.

Now, there are leaks claiming that Mueller is going after former national-security adviser Michael Flynn for his business practices before he entered the Trump administration. Specifically, Mueller is reportedly investigating Flynn’s security assessment and intelligence work for the Turkish government and other Turkish interests. Yet possible unethical lobbying on behalf of a NATO ally was not the reason Mueller was appointed.

#8  Former FBI director Robert Mueller was supposed to run a narrow investigation into accusations of collusion between the Donald Trump campaign and the Russian government.

That single quote is exactly why concerns of prosecutorial overreach are legitimate. This whole Russian cluster begins with and continues to be - not 'WHO' commited a crime but 'IF' a crime was even committed. And the process becomes more murky once one recognizes this undetermined crime has yet to be defined. Now consider this; it's been established that there's indeed been a clearly defined crime committed. Yet for some unexplained reason it doesn't appear to be of high concern to investigators. (And certainly not the media.)
Who has been leaking the governments classified information?
Maybe the answer to that question will become the proverbial 'blue dress'. Just don't hold your breath.

Istanbul airport bomber thought killed in Georgia
[Reuters] A former Islamic State warlord suspected of masterminding a bloody attack on Istanbul airport in 2016 is believed to have been killed during a special operation in Georgia last week, three sources familiar with the case said. Akhmed Chatayev, an ethnic Chechen, is likely to have lost his life during a police operation against a group of armed men on the outskirts of Tbilisi last week, the sources said.

One Georgian special forces serviceman and three members of the armed group were killed in the operation. Four police officers were injured and one member of the group was arrested during the 20-hour operation at the apartment block where the group was hiding.

Nino Giorgobiani, deputy chief of the state security service, said that the final conclusions about the slain militant's identity would be reached after experts had completed their work and “the relevant United States agencies (had) joined the investigation.”

"According to my information, Chatayev was there ... He blew himself up,” said one of the sources.

Chatayev was named by Turkish media and a U.S. congressman as the mastermind of the suicide bombing of Istanbul airport in 2016 which killed 45 people. His involvement has not been confirmed by Turkish officials.

A veteran of Chechnya's conflict with Moscow during which he lost an arm, he lived in Georgia’s Pankisi Gorge, a remote area populated largely by people from the Kist community, ethnic Chechens who came to mainly Christian Georgia in the 1800s.

When Chechnya rose up in rebellion after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Kist community were drawn in. Thousands of refugees arrived from Chechnya, and some militants used the gorge to reassemble and prepare new attacks.

Chatayev was injured and arrested in Georgia in August 2012 after a clash between the Georgian police and a group of rebels, who were allegedly trying to cross the Georgian-Russian border and move to Dagestan.

He was released on bail and Georgian prosecutors dropped the case against him, citing a lack of evidence. After his release, Chatayev left Georgia, saying he intended to go to Austria to recover. By 2015, he had moved to Islamic State-controlled areas in Syria and Iraq.

Puerto Rico crisis ongoing months after Hurricane Maria
[Al Jazeera] Puerto Rico remains in dire straits more than two months after Hurricane Maria slammed into the US territory, according to humanitarian organizations and US politicians.

Puerto Rico's situation "remains quite serious and will require significant support for some time to come", Andrew Schroeder, director of research and analysis for global medical nonprofit Direct Relief, told Al Jazeera.

"Direct Relief is planning to continue extensive support throughout the health system for the foreseeable future," he said.

The island, an American territory whose people are US citizens, was dealing with a debt crisis before Maria hit, devastating its power grid and water infrastructure. Puerto Rico owes creditors more than $70bn with an additional $43bn owed in pension payments.

The hurricane had sustained winds of 250km per hour when it made landfall on Puerto Rico on September 20, killing at least 55 people. Maria followed Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Caribbean hurricane on record, which grazed Puerto Rico on September 6.

The ensuing damage, estimated to cost up to $95bn, has left Puerto Rico in a healthcare crisis.

Direct Relief has provided community medical centres with more than $300,000 and airlifted 76 tonnes of medical supplies to Puerto Rico over the past two months.

Schroeder was quick to say the crisis, along with many others, predates Maria. Before the hurricane, 73 of 78 municipalities were "medically underserved" by the US government.

Schroeder explained a number of issues have contributed to the emergency, including Puerto Rico's debt and the "brain drain" of qualified medical practitioners leaving for the mainland United States.

"Particularly in the interior of the island, communities faced chronic underinvestment compounded by crippling public debt," he said.

#1  None of you want to get better, ever.
You are helpless before that phony government you worship that has spend a century spending money on solving the same problems and you got nowhere.

Labor disputes during catastrophic damage and possible loss of life tells me you lost the basic humanity to run a civilization.

That must change now because you are being watched.

Do the right thing, and you may form a Brotherhood, but this corruption will forever keep you divided.

For you I most certainly would not sew another star on the Flag.

Get yourselves together and fix it.

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

Syrian Army lures Al-Qaeda into unwinnable battle in northeast Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] Jihadist-led snuffies in northeast Hama find themselves locked into a battle with Syrian pro-government forces which they have virtually no hope of winning. The outcome of this battle had already been decided the very moment the Syrian Arab Army and its allies chose to initiate it.

So far the battle has witnessed a comparatively small force of mixed Syrian Army units and pro-government militias liberate 29 villages from jihadist-led krazed killers.

Unlike the battle fronts which are adjacent to northeast Hama (such as north Hama proper and southwest Aleppo), the terrain in northeast Hama is mostly flat and thus ideal for classic mobile battles.

Typically, pro-government forces are employing overwhelming numbers of tanks, artillery and airpower in the ongoing operation and to this end, the terrain of the northeast Hama battlefield (unlike southwest Aleppo and north Hama) could not be more suited.

The main opponent to the Syrian Army’s advances, Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham
(formerly Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda), is no longer the force it use to be just eighteen months ago when it mustered nearly 100 tanks and infantry fighting vehicles to storm western Aleppo.

A series of reckless operations (including the western Aleppo operation) has seen most of the offensive sting that al-Qaeda’s army in Syria once had (particularly tanks, seasoned troops, expert commanders and artillery) be squandered with virtually no hope of replenishment.

Such past actions have guaranteed that al-Qaeda can never hope to win the current maneuver battles being fought over the rolling semi-desert steppes of northeastern Hama.

Israel eases restrictions on US-bound Gazan travelers, and 2 disappear
[IsraelTimes] Pilot program providing shuttle service for Gazooks to US Consulate in Jerusalem suffers setback on first day

Israel on Wednesday launched a program to provide shuttle service for Gazooks who need to travel to the US Consulate in Jerusalem ‐ an operation that could ease one of the many restrictions it places on Paleostinians who want to exit the blockaded territory.

Israel allows only a small number of Gazooks to travel through Israel, mostly for medical care or other humanitarian grounds. It cites security considerations for the tight restrictions.

In recent months, it has barred Gazooks from entering Israel for visa interviews at the US Consulate after some applicants fled into hiding in Israel or the West Bank to seek work. The restrictions have prevented several hundred people from applying at the consulate for visas to travel or study in the US.

About 100 Paleostinians were allowed Wednesday to cross into Israel and board two buses bound for Jerusalem. They were accompanied by officials from the Paleostinian Civil Affairs Committee, an office that coordinates cross-border movement with the Israelis.

Ahmed Ouda, who went to the interview with his wife and teenage son, came home disappointed. Hoping to visit his brother, a US citizen who lives in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Ouda said the entire family, including younger children who remained behind in Gazoo, were turned down for visas after his interview.

"We spent 12 hours, mostly without access to water and services, and we were rejected at the end," he said. "It’s an exhausting process; thank God my young children did not need to come and experience it."

Mohammed al-Maqadma, front man for the civil affairs committee, said Israel is expected to run similar shuttles in the future, though no schedule has been set.

"It could be two days a month, one day every two months," he said. "I think this is part of the Israeli policies that we don’t know their goals."

Wednesday’s pilot program suffered a setback on its first day, however, with the apparent disappearance of two Gazooks. Travelers on the shuttle said one man fled into a taxi at the border crossing, while a second person did not return on the bus. The travelers requested anonymity, fearing trouble with Israeli authorities.

COGAT, the Israeli defense agency that coordinates cross-border movement, said Wednesday’s shuttle came after months of work with both the American Consulate and Paleostinian officials. It said the program, meant to balance the needs of Paleostinian civilians with Israeli security concerns, would continue.

"In the near future, additional shuttles will be scheduled on dates to be determined by the American Consulate in coordination" with Israel, it said.

A US State Department official said, "We seek to facilitate travel to the United States for all legitimate and bona fide travelers, including residents of Gazoo." The official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
under department regulations, referred questions about exit permits to Israel.

The State Department requires people to schedule visa appointments online. The website advises Gazooks to schedule an appointment over 60 days in advance to allow time to apply for a permit from Israel. It says the shuttle will take applicants directly to the consulate for their interviews.

The application process is arduous, requiring an Israeli security check and sometimes an interview with Israeli security agents. Israel says the checks are needed because Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", tries to exploit the system to smuggle cash or goods across the border.

The new system is a far cry from a previous arrangement in which Israel granted Gazooks full one-day permits, allowing them to go on their own. People would take advantage of the coveted permit to visit the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, but in some cases, they went into hiding while searching for work. Gazoo’s unemployment rate is well over 40 percent.

The new mechanism will strain the liaison committee staff who will accompany the interviewees back and forth, according to al-Maqadma. Over 400 applicants are still waiting for their permits to be cleared.

Jihadists launch large counter-attack in southern Aleppo to recapture lost towns
[ALMASDARNEWS] The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham launched a powerful counter-attack in the southern countryside of the Aleppo Governorate, today, targeting the towns they recently lost to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham began the attack by storming the town of al-Ramleh, which was not well-defended by the Syrian Army and NDF troops there.

The jihadist group managed to recapture al-Ramleh after the SAA and NDF troops at the town were forced to retreat to nearby Abisan and ’Azizah.

According to a Syrian military source, HTS is now attacking the aforementioned towns in a bid to recapture everything they lost over the last 24 hours.

Rebels warn takeover of Gladosovo could spark counterattack

By Chris Covert

Two attacks took place in northern Donetsk and Lugansk, one of them after the Ukrainian takeover of the villages of Gladosovo and Travnevoe on the night of November 21st to 22nd, which was a major gunfight and the largest in recent memory.

Going by rebel accounts in the Russian sponsored Russkaya Vesna and from other Ukrainian news reports, rebel commanders decided to act on information about a new offensive Ukraine had planned. They sent a tactical team deep into Lugansk to intercept a Ukrainian force which was heading to Gladosovo and other gray areas that neither side was occupying at the time.

The encounter was an ambush of a company size element, costing the Ukrainians five dead and more than 10 wounded.

Information carelessly leaked on the Ukrainian ministry of defense website showed that the Ukrainian general staff intended to send a composite rifle company into the area consisting of elements of the Ukrainian 54th Motorized Rifle Brigade, units from the Ukrainian volunteer unit, the 24th "Aydar" Battalion and an artillery unit from the Georgian 128th Separate Mountain Infantry Brigade.

According to a Live Journal post, Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin noted that the 128th Brigade had participated in the battles south of Gorlovka at Yasinovataya in March, 2016. That attack cut off the only hard surface road between Donetsk city and Gorlovka. Gorlovka at the time was suffering daily nocturnal artillery attacks from the Ukrainians.

The second engagement, which Ukrainian national officials claim was an unauthorized military mission, took place in Lugansk, along a contested road commonly known as the Bahkmuta, a colloquial name for highway P66.

Russian writer Anton Orlovsky detailed the fight at Frunze:

The advance party, moving under the cover of night and snowy weather on the night of November 23rd, ran into a minefield that killed three and wounded five others. The Ukrainian site commander called for mortar and heavy machine gun fire to cover their retreat.

The only prisoner, wounded and left behind, was captured by the rebels. Jr. Sergeant Roman Furstev told the rebels that the commander of 3rd Company, Ukrainian 58th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, identified as Senior Lieutenant Danilko had been convinced that the rebel position at Frunze was occupied by only two pickets, and no heavy weapons, and that taking the position would be "easy."

Yuri Biryukov, adviser to Ukrainian president Piotr Poroshenko, was quoted as saying that Sr. Lt. Danilko had read about the prior day's operation north of Gorlovka, and wanted to seize some glory for himself.

The report, which appeared in Russkaya Vesna indicated that the size of the attacking force was seven to 10 effectives. The report also indicated that the brigade's 3rd Company was staffed mainly with former members of the notorious Ukrainian volunteer unit, the "Donbass" Battalion.

Sgt. Furstev told the rebels that he was in change of a detachment of heavy and medium machine guns with orders that once the position was captured, his detachment would cover the Ukrainian further advance into rebel territory with machine gun fire.

According to a story which appeared in the Ukrainian versti-Ukr.com, one of the leaders of the probe died in the minefield. It is unclear in reports if the dead was Sr. Lt. Danilko.

Russian military correspondent for Komsomol Pravda, Aleksandr Kots wrote that rebel commanders consider the new situation similar to Debaltsevo two years ago. Ukrainian artillery had increased the intensity of its fire against rebel positions in Golrovka. Rebel commanders consider the position the Ukrainians had made for themselves similar to Debaltsevo because then, as now, the only solution for the rebels to reduce the amount of artillery fire on their positions was to attack and eliminate the Ukrainian positions.

Kots' report served as a warning about the actions rebels had taken in the past. The villages of Gladosovo and Travnevoe, said rebel military officials, are part of a cauldron similar to the cauldron the rebels reduced in Debaltsevo. Kots also said that the position the Ukrainians placed themselves in was similar to Shirokino, the southern Donetsk village fought over until the village itself became tactically worthless by virtue of its sheer destruction.

The rebels abandoned Shirokino in late 2015.

Abu Sayyaf kidnapper, financier arrested in Manila
[World Bulletin] A man accused of funding the Abu Sayyaf who was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of 21 tourists in Malaysia was arrested by Philippine authorities last week in Quezon City, Manila. At a press briefing on Tuesday, police spokesman Wilson Asueta said Abulpatta Escalon Abubakar, also known as "Kitong" or "Imran", was arrested last Thursday.

Abubakar was alleged to be involved in the kidnapping of ten tourists from Europe and the Middle East and 11 Malaysian resort workers at the Pulau Sipadan resort in Sabah, Malaysia on April 23, 2000, Asueta said. He also insinuated that Abubakar had been financing the terrorist group while he was in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia since 1997 until this year, through Abu Sayyaf leaders Radullan Sahiron and Isnilon Hapilon.

Abubakar was previously arrested in September when he returned to the country from Saudi Arabia but was immediately released because his identity was not clearly substantiated.

The Grand Turk
Turkish cops rescue 57 refugees ‘in chains’
[ARABNEWS] Ottoman Turkish police rescued 57 Pak migrants colonists who had been chained up in an Istanbul basement by people smugglers trying to extort money, local media reported Tuesday.

The smugglers told the migrants colonists that they would take them to Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
for $10,000, with the money to be paid after they arrived, according to Hurriyet daily.

Some of those found on Monday had been tortured, the newspaper added.

Police also detained three smugglers of Pak origin on suspicion of misleading the migrants colonists during the raid on the European side of the city.

The migrants colonists had reportedly hoped to reach Europe via Greece or Italia, giving a code to the smugglers to access the money upon reaching Europe, Hurriyet said.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
the people-smuggling gang mainly made up of Paks demanded the $10,000 upfront and told the migrants colonists chained in Istanbul to call their families to tell them they had reached Europe already and to transfer the money, the daily said.

Chinese State Media on North Korea Missile Launch: Trump ‘Has Failed'
[Breitbart] The Chinese state outlet, Global Times, which typically takes an aggressive tone in covering the United States, declared on Wednesday that President Donald Trump and the U.S. policy on North Korea had "failed," citing Pyongyang’s latest missile test.

North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) announced late Tuesday that dictator Kim Jong-un had personally directed the launching of a new model of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), named Hwasong-15, and that he declared the test a success.

China is North Korea’s largest trading partner, ensuring that the Kim regime continues to possess the funds necessary for its illegal weapons development. Beijing claims it has abided by international sanctions and that American aggression against North Korea is to blame for current tensions.

"It’s fair to say that US policy on North Korea has failed, and so has the policy of President Donald Trump," the Times declared on Wednesday. Specifically, the Times complains that Trump "heightened the pressure on North Korea at the wrong time, intensifying the tensions on the peninsula almost to the utmost, leaving little space for diplomatic maneuvering."
China does not get that we have a President who views political norms as concepts the underpinnings of which may, upon demand, be required to be defended, not unwaveringly followed. I'm pretty sure the word "why" is Presidentially used a lot in The Oval Office. And if the answer does not make sense, a change is, er, considered.

Jordanians say change of Israeli envoy not enough to improve ties
No Jordan River project until an Israeli ambassador is in residence, but y’all keep posturing, guys.
[ARABNEWS] Jordanians have rejected Israel’s attempt to improve relations with their country by changing its ambassador and paying compensation for the killing in July of two Jordanians at the Israeli Embassy in Amman.

Israeli media reported Wednesday that Israel has agreed to send a different ambassador to Amman than Einat Schlein, who left Jordan hurriedly in July with the Israeli security guard who killed the Jordanians.

"Jordan made two clear demands: That the security guard is seriously questioned and put on trial, and that Schlein not return," Jordanian MP Nabil Gheishan told Arab News.

Gheishan comes from the town of Madaba, as did Bashar Hamarneh, an elderly doctor who was killed at the embassy.
