The only sad thing is that it didn't look like Somalia while Arafat was still in power. I know it's a reach, but maybe if Yasser's own people had offed him, they wouldn't have been so stupid as to elect Hamas.

The United States, which had helped train and arm the Fatah forces which were roundly defeated in Gaza, pledged its full support for Abbas, describing him as a "moderate" committed to a negotiated peace with Israel.

Yoohoo, is anyone in Washington paying attention? Maybe now that we have an administration which wisely kept their participation in the futile Oslo Accords to a minimum, their lack of "political investment" might allow them to back away from this pisspot entirely.

Bush I and Clinton both had entangled far too much political capital in this preposterous farce to ever have admitted what a total charade it was. Let's hope that the time has come for America to abandon the Palestinians entirely into the hands of their doting Arab kinfolk.

What's not to persecute? Not that Islamists don't have the most crippling collective persecution complex ever seen. In light of how both Fatah and Hamas were equally dedicated to genocide against the Jews, this is merely another case of the usual Muslim "more Islamic than thou" crapulence.
