Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief March 27, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TALIBAN BREAK-UP WOMEN’S PROTEST IN KABUL – Approximately 30 women activists held a protest in the Pol-e Sokhta neighborhood to denounce the Taliban’s ban on women’s education. The women held signs calling for education, work, and freedom. The march was forcefully dispersed by Taliban security forces and some injuries were reported after the event. 3 protestors were reportedly arrested during the protest and their whereabouts are currently unknown.

  • ISIS WEAPONS CACHE DISCOVERED IN JAWZJAN PROVINCE – A source within the Ministry of Defense said that intelligence gathered from recent counter-ISIS-K operations in Kabul had led them to an arms cache in Shiberghan (Sakhi Abad neighborhood), Jawzjan Province on Sunday. Security forces seized rifles, suicide vests, and bomb-making materials in the subsequent search of the facility. No arrests were reported and the source thought the ISIS-K members may have been alerted prior to the raid.

  • TAJIKISTAN DISAVOWS KNOWLEDGE OF REPORTED TALIBAN VISIT TO CONSULATE IN GORNO-BADAKHSHAN – The Taliban announced that it had sent an official team to visit the consulate of the former regime in Khorugh (Gorno-Badakhshan, Tajikistan) this past week. New reports say that Government officials in Dushanbe claim no such visit took place. Tajikistan has been the most critical of the Taliban out of Afghanistan’s neighboring states and has continually condemned the IEA since Kabul fell.

  • GRAZING RIGHTS CLASH IN FARYAB LEAVES 3 PEOPLE DEAD – In what has been reported as a family feud, 3 people were killed when gunfire erupted over an argument about grazing rights. The families were described as ‘nomads’ and were reputed to be cousins. 3 people are under arrest and an investigation by Dawlat-Abad District police has begun.

  • KHAN GOES ALL IN ON THE TALIBAN – The former Prime Minister held his rally at the Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore yesterday. By most accounts, several thousand attended but an accurate figure has yet to be reported and photos/video of the event seem to show far less than the 100,000-plus event he was hoping for. He laid out his comprehensive plan for getting the country out of its current economic predicament. On Thursday, the former PM was interviewed by a British news channel and repeated his statements regarding the Taliban and urged the world to grant recognition as a path forward. Later in the interview, he appeared to backtrack on his words and said that Pakistan could not be the first country to recognize the Taliban for risk of joining the IEA at the pariah’s table. Some observers quipped that Khan may have been inadvertently seeking Taliban (and TTP) support by reiterating statements he made on the subject in February 2022.

  • AFGHANISTAN TRIUMPHS OVER PAKISTAN WITH ANOTHER WIN IN THE T20 SERIES – The Afghanistan Men’s Cricket team defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets on Sunday evening and swept the series. It is the first-ever T20 series win for Afghanistan in the heated rivalry.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Baghlan: Several unidentified gunmen shot the Taliban’s TAPI pipeline project intelligence unit chief for Balkh province yesterday. No group has claimed credit for the assassination, and it is not clear why the man was targeted.

Balkh: Either ALM or AFF fighters conducted a night attack on a Taliban checkpoint at one of the entrances of Mazar-i-Sharif. Both groups claimed credit for the purported operation. It may have been a joint operation. Two Taliban were reportedly killed and 3 others injured in the attack.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • FLOOD WARNINGS FOR NEXT 36 HOURS – The biggest threat over the next two days will be flooding in Central Afghanistan. Torrential rains have combined with snow-melt in the mountains to create extremely dangerous conditions. The Ministry of Energy and Water has issued flood warnings in 21 Provinces and is warning people to stay away from rivers if at all possible. At-risk Afghans considering travel over the next few days should cancel plans and wait until the waters recede.

  • T20 WIN A SORE SPOT FOR PAKISTAN – At-risk Afghans are encouraged to mute their celebrations of the recent T20 series win over Pakistan. Several fights were reported in cities across the country and while most of them involved internal disagreements between Pakistan fans, a few included Afghans. Overzealous fans could easily instigate mob-like activity and set off a xenophobic response.

Afghan Women’s Protests Violently Dispersed in Kabul
[KhaamaPress] A group of Afghan women protested in the west of Kabul city on Sunday to raise their voices against a ruling that bans females from education and universities, Khaama Press has confirmed.

Scores of women gathered in the capital, Kabul, on Sunday, for a peaceful march in response to the continued ban on women’s education. Their chanting slogans demanded to reopen of schools and universities for girls.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the women protesters were attacked and dispersed by the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
security forces, videos sent to Khaama Press showing.

According to a protester who spoke to Khaama Press under anonymity, the "women’s movement for justice" was responsible for organizing the demonstrations and added at least three protesting women were detained during the rally.

Taliban security forces reportedly beat women protesters and had gun sex, and they violent mostly peacefully dispersed protesters.

The women protesters say that since the Taliban seized power, the number of girls women’s suicides has increased, women and girls attending schools and universities have decreased to zero, and early marriages have doubled.

The Taliban administration has received harsh criticism from the UN and rights organizations for imposing these restrictions on women.

According to Richard Bennett, the UN special rapporteur on human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
in Afghanistan, these policies display a "pattern of absolute gender segregation and aim to make women invisible in the society."

Taliban Security Forces Discover ISIS Weaponry, Mine-making Center in Northern Afghanistan
[KhaamaPress] The Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
security forces in Afghanistan’s Northern Province discovered an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
weapons cache and a mine-making centre on Sunday.

According to the provincial police chief of Jawzjan province, the Afghan cops found massive weapons depot and mine-making facility of Deash or ISIS in Sakhi Abad of Shiberghan, the capital of Afghanistan’s northern Jawzjan province.

The discovered ammunitions and arms, including a boom jacket, hand grenades and objects used in making mines and bombs, Shah Mohammad Ahmadi said, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Similar operations were conducted by the Afghan cops in the eastern Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
, where they found and confiscated 17 AK-47 assault rifles and other weapons and ammunition.

Nonetheless, the police head claimed that the ISIS turbans planned to launch disruptive activities, but their plot had been prevented.

Recently, the Islamic State intensified its attacks on Taliban officials and people in various provinces of Afghanistan, including Kabul and Balkh provinces.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the Taliban security forces have eliminated several Deash hideouts in the country, including Kabul, Kunar, Herat

and Balkh provinces, killed several turbans and seized heavy ammunition and weaponry, according to government officials.

Sana'a International Airport restricts flights to one day per week
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
’s Civil Aviation Authority in Sana’a suspended international flights coming to Sana’a International Airport, except for one day a week, as a result of popular discontent with the arbitrary measures regarding commercial flights.

Khaled al-Shayef, a director of Sana’a International Airport, pointed out that the Yemeni airways’ leadership in Aden restricted sales in Sana’a and prevents travelers from obtaining tickets.

Al-Shayef affirmed that stopping the issuance of tickets and reservations from Sana’a and the provinces would double the suffering of travelers.

"Instead of increasing the number of flights and their destinations, we were surprised by new restrictions affecting travelers and patients,"he added.

Al-Shayef went on to say: "Since the beginning of the armistice until today, the Ministry of Transport in Sana’a has been keen to provide all facilities to the Yemenia Airways and travellers."

[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] Saudi military forces have arrived, over the past hours, in the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, in southern Yemen

...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
from Aden people, who were trained in the Saudi Tabuk area under the supervision of foreign officers.

Amritpal Case Police detain R S Pura couple
More Sikh Khalistan nonsense.
[GreaterKashmir] A couple from R S Pura was detained on Saturday for their alleged links to Papalpreet Singh, considered to be a close aide of hardliner Amritpal Singh, who is evading in several cases registered against him in Punjab.

J&K Police along with Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Police swung into action following inputs against the alleged aide of Papalpreet Singh in R S Pura.

Police nabbed Amrik Singh and his wife Sarabjeet Kour of R S Pura, a border town. "After their detention, they were handed over to Punjab Police for their links with Papalpreet Singh," Police said.

A Police officer said that the Punjab Police team had come to R S Pura with the help of local police and they had taken their custody.

The man and his wife were taken to Jammu for their preliminary questioning, he said.

"From Jammu, they were shifted to Punjab. They were taken into custody as they allegedly had a link with one of the close aides of Amritpal Singh. Their mobile phones were also seized for further investigation," said a Police officer wishing not to be quoted.

He said that the CDRs of the detained couple would be checked with regard to the ongoing investigation as a part of crackdown on the sympathisers of Amritpal Singh in Punjab, and other states.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
he claimed that nothing objectionable was recovered from them.

Israeli troops detain 4 Palestinians, seize arms in West Bank raids
[IsraelTimes] Israeli forces detain four wanted Paleostinians and seize firearms this morning during raids in the West Bank, the military says.

In the Nur Shams refugee camp, near the Paleostinian city of Tulkarem, Border Police officers arrest three desperados suspected of involvement in terror activities, and capture an M16 assault rifle.

Shooting was heard amid the operation in Nur Shams, but none of the officers are hurt, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

Separately, soldiers arrest another wanted Paleostinian and seize a handgun in Bayt Awa, near Hebron in the southern West Bank, the IDF says.

The four are taken to be questioned by the Shin Bet security agency.

Fierce clashes in Syria's Daraa
[NPASYRIA] One person was killed and two others were maimed due to festivities between the Eighth Legion, affiliated with Syrian government forces and an gang in the town of Inkhil, in the northern countryside of Daraa.

A local source told North Press that Khalil Ibrahim al-Farwan was killed and his young brother Othman was injured in stray bullets due to festivities between the aforementioned parties.

Kinan al-Eid, a soldier of the Eight Legion, was injured during the festivities that have been taking place till the moment of preparing the report, according to the source.

The festivities broke out on Saturday between the Eight Legion, led by Abdulhakim al-Eid, also known as Abu al-Hakam, and another group, led by Menyar al-Qaderi, as the former accuses the latter of kidnappings, robberies and violations against the civilians.

The people of the city demanded that the parties get out of the city to avoid hurting the civilians.

The residents held a meeting to discuss the ongoing incidents in the city, but they have not reached any solutions, according to the source.

In July 2018, the opposition armed factions and the government forces reached a ceasefire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa. Under the deal, the opposition armed factions agreed to hand over their heavy weapons in exchange for staying in Daraa, and those oppose the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in line with the 2018 agreement, the governorate has been living in a state of security chaos, with one or two daily liquidations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
