The Director of the Moral Guidance Department of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Khaled al-Mahjoub claimed that the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, was under investigation for a number of embezzlement cases. He added that Dbaiba, "will fall and go, as others went before him."
Al-Mahjoub noted that Dbaiba, "wasted the efforts of the 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC) to establish and maintain the ceasefire, and unify the military institution. He made many false promises, and worked with the intent of trying to undermine the armed forces."
Regarding the terrorist attack in the Umm al-Aranib region, he continued: "the terrorist organizations formed a coalition with the organized crime gangs. These were engaged in fuel smuggling, human trafficking, kidnapping, and extortion. The LNA secured the cities and regions of southern Libya, and cut off their routes. That is why they formed this coalition. The checkpoint was shot at, and the perpetrators fled. The martyr, Siraj al-Ferjani died as a result of that operation."
Notably, al-Mahjoub stated that the recent attack at Umm al-Aranib is, "a desperate attempt by IS to prove its existence in any way. The remote attack outside the camp is a warning after the killing of several IS leaders. They want to show that they are able to react."
Al-Mahjoub explained that, "the organization’s leaders are cooperating with cross-border gangs operating in the area. Some cells may be elsewhere, as a result of their alliance with transnational gangs."
He stressed that LNA forces, "are capable of reaching them, and are ready to respond." He added, "the more IS announces itself, the more severe the strikes. A move of this kind must be followed by a sweep and a hunt. We have the air force and are able to reach them, wherever they are. It is clear, as the covert operations indicate, the weakness of the organization."
Earlier, al-Mahjoub announced the killing of two IS turbans in southern Libya. He explained that this came as part of a security operation carried out by a Libyan Army-affiliated military unit. It had targeted an IS hotbed, led by Moataz Ahmed, east of the city of Qatroun.
He pointed out that operations would "continue until the presence of terrorist organizations, and organized crime in the south is eliminated."
Al-Mahjoub confirmed that there were no casualties among the LNA forces. He added that a boom-mobile was remotely detonated in front of the LNA’s Desert Patrols camp, which is located in the southern town of Umm al-Aranib.

"There is a possibility this will happen," he warned. Bin Sherada expected Belhaj to not involve himself in the ongoing struggle between the two rival Prime Minister’s, Fathi Bashagha and Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba.
Earlier this week, Belhaj arrived in Tripoli, from Doha. He is one of the most prominent post-2011 militia leaders. He has been accused of being involved in several attacks on public facilities, and helping to destabilize Libya.
Since 2017, he has been added to the counter-terrorism list of four countries, including the Libyan Parliament.
Belhaj also faces direct accusations from the Libyan military, for allegedly stealing large amounts of gold, and money from Libyan banks after the fall of Muammar Qadaffy ...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest... ’s regime. It claims that it "has evidence proving that he deposited billions of dollars in Ottoman Turkish banks."
Belhaj was imprisoned by the Qadaffy regime, for his role in the LIFG. He reportedly now owns several companies, including the Alnabaa TV channel, which is described in Libya as "the channel of sedition." As it has a reputation for polishing the image of terrorist groups and bad boy militias. He was also involved in the transfer of Syrian mercenaries to Libya, through his "Libyan Wings" airline.
In 2013, members of the Tunisian National Initiative, Chokri Belaid and Mohammed Brahmi accused Belhaj of being involved with the Tunisian Ansar al-Sharia ...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet... organization. This has been classified as a terrorist organization by the Tunisian Interior Ministry.

Mali's military junta accused La Belle France's military of spying on Tuesday, after the French military released a video of what it alleged were Russian mercenaries burying bodies at a grave in northern Mali last week.
La Belle France said it filmed the video near the Gossi military base in northern Mali and accused Russian-linked mercenaries of playing a role in a coordinated campaign to smear departing French soldiers.
MALI BLAMES LA BELLE FRANCE FOR FLYING DRONES ILLEGALLY
Mali's junta said in a statement Tuesday that La Belle France flew the drone "illegally" over the military base on April 20, the day after French forces handed over the base to Malian authorities.
French military said it released the footage to show that Mali's military government and Russian mercenaries were trying to claim the French of committed grievous crimes.
Mali's ruling junta said it discovered the mass grave near the Gossi base a day after the French released the footage, and has ordered an inquiry into it.
"The said a drone was present...to spy on our brave FAMa (Malian Armed Forces)," government front man Abdoulaye Maiga said.
"In addition to the spying, French forces were guilty of subversion by publishing false images worked up to accuse the FAMa of responsibility of killing civilians, with the aim of tarnishing their image," Maiga added.
RELATIONS SOUR BETWEEN LA BELLE FRANCE AND MALI
Relations between Gay Paree and Bamako soured after the Malian military seized power in a coup in 2020, with the French accusing the leaders of reneging on several agreements.
Ultimately, La Belle France said it was winding down operations in Mali with European partners this February and pull troops by the summer.
Mali has been dealing with an insurgence of Islamist militancy for years, and thousands of people have been killed and forced to flee their homes.
The West African nation has seen an uptick in violence in recent weeks as European troops drawdown their operations. [An Nahar] La Belle France on Tuesday condemned the life sentence handed by a Ottoman Turkish court to leading civil society activist Osman Kavala, saying his detention violated The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... [AlAhram] Egypt's Permanent Representative to the UN Osama Abdel-Khalek warned during a meeting of the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) on Monday that Israel's continued attempts to "Judaise" East Jerusalem and change the historical and legal status quo for its holy sites portend a dangerous escalation.
The UNSC's meeting comes in light of the recent festivities between Paleostinians and Israeli security forces during religious holidays.
Over the past three weeks, Israeli forces have repeatedly stormed the mosque to evacuate it of Paleostinians secluding there, as the Moslem holy month of Ramadan has coincided with Jewish Passover.

The Arab leaders called for respecting the role of the historical Hashemite custodianship in protecting the Moslem and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
They also underscored the importance of stopping all Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution and the need to find a political horizon for resuming "serious and effective" negotiations to resolve Israeli-Paleostinian tensions in accordance with international law.

If Iran is only "a few weeks" from breakout, then it behooves the Juice to get busy blowing stuff up. Assuming they don't just back up a U-Haul to the storage facility and make off with the processed uranium in the middle of the night.

That’s the first I’ve heard about Israel threatening Europe. It was my understanding that Israel thus threatened those who would invade Israel to destroy it. Iran comes to mind, as does Hezbollahstan; Pakistan is busy posturing, but likes to think itself too far away to partake in any festivities more than symbolically, while Saudi Arabia, et al have in recent years taken themselves off the target list by their behind-the-scenes actions even before they signed the Abraham Accords (may God bless and keep President Trump for that project alone, even if he had not done all the rest (dayenu!)).
Are you suggesting, Harry Jinelet7642, that the nations of Europe would be so stupid as to make themselves an immediate, existential threat against a country reported to have up to 400 multiple-megaton nuclear devices? [An Nahar] Elie Haykal, the activist accused of assaulting the energy minister, turned himself in Tuesday to the Zouk Mosbeh cop shoppe.
State Security agents had earlier erected checkpoints across Zouk Mosbeh in a bid to arrest the man, as his lawyer sought to convince him to turn himself in, al-Jadeed TV reported.
A patrol from the Ashrafieh police department had on Monday raided Haykal's house without managing to find him. The raid took place based on an order from State Prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat, who also ordered the arrest of another activist according to reports.
Haykal had physically assaulted Energy Minister Walid Fayyad outside a restaurant on Sunday night.
An online video shows Haykal saying "this is a message from all the Lebanese people" before violent mostly peacefully pushing Fayyad to a wall. You need to "wake up," he tells the minister.
Another man is meanwhile seen telling Fayyad that his mother "has no electricity" and that "a massacre happened in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... " whereas he was "having a drink."
In the same video, a female activist tells the minister that she was interrogated at a State Security center along with other female activists due to his "corruption."
This is not the first time Fayyad has been intercepted by activists at a restaurant since he was appointed as minister. He is often seen at public places without bodyguards.
In a statement issued Sunday, Fayyad had called on brass hats and all security agencies to address the incident, adding that he would personally file a lawsuit against anyone involved in "inciting, monitoring, planning and carrying out this attack."
"The arrest of the attacker or attackers is not enough and they must rather receive a punishment ... that would prevent a repetition of what happened, seeing as the dignity of people, regardless of their positions, is not the property of anyone," the statement added, describing the attackers as "lawless groups that are violating all laws, norms, ethics and human values while falsely claiming to be speaking in the name of the Lebanese people."
