#1  Huge surprise. Why would companies go offshore to avoid additional taxation, unionization, and regulation? Makes no sense to me.

#2  If there was zero taxation, unionization or regulation the execs would still offshore when they can pay their third world labor 1/4 to 1/10 domestic pay rates and import their goods and services with minimal or no tariffs. That is, until the domestic economy collapses and the money runs out.

#5  Well BP, the US economy is barreling to NorK levels. The "Progressives" are chortling about great project to De-develop the American economy.

Uncle Sucker's workers are not competing with the worker in the next town or state, but directly competing with China's, India's or Vietnam's. Or if they are luck Japan or German. None of them play by America's (or Britain's) rules.

If that were true, then the unions wouldn't be pushing carding. The reality is that they have and are competing with their cousins in other states.

#1  BREAKING NEWS
We've Figured Him Out
By Ben Stein on 7.24.09 @ 9:45AM

Why is President Barack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill passed?

Because he and his cunning circle realize some basic truths:

The American people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in 2008. They wanted so much to believe Barack Obama was somehow better and different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith.

They ignored his anti-white writings in his books. They ignored his quiet acceptance of hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright.

They ignored his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student. They ignored his ultra-left record as a "community organizer," Illinois state legislator, and Senator.

The American people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher, his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar.

Now, the American people are starting to wake up to the truth. Barack Obama is a super likeable super leftist, not a fan of this country, way, way too cozy with the terrorist leaders in the Middle East, way beyond naïveté, all the way into active destruction of our interests and our allies and our future.

The American people have already awakened to the truth that the stimulus bill -- a great idea in theory -- was really an immense bribe to Democrat interest groups, and in no way an effort to help all Americans.

Now, Americans are waking up to the truth that ObamaCare basically means that every time you are sick or injured, you will have a clerk from the Department of Motor Vehicles telling your doctor what he can and cannot do.

The American people already know that Mr. Obama's plan to lower health costs while expanding coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and never will be -- a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society. Either the costs go up or the free society goes away.

These are perilous times. Mrs. Hillary Clinton, our Secretary of State, has given Iran the go-ahead to have nuclear weapons, an unqualified betrayal of the nation. Now, we face a devastating loss of freedom at home in health care. It will be joined by controls on our lives to "protect us" from global warming, itself largely a fraud if believed to be caused by man.

Mr. Obama knows Americans are getting wise and will stop him if he delays at all in taking away our freedoms.

There is his urgency and our opportunity. Once freedom is lost, America is lost. Wake up, beloved America.

White House Battles Drudge Over Health Care Video Clips
WASHINGTON -- The White House is turning to the Internet to hit back at a Web posting that claims to show President Obama explaining how his health care reform plans eventually would eliminate private insurance.

The 3-minute White House video features Linda Douglass, a former network television correspondent and now White House Office of Health Reform communications director, sitting in front of a computer screen showing the Drudge Report Web site. That site carries a series of video clips from another blogger who strings together selected Obama statements on health care to make it appear he wants to eliminate the private health insurance business.

In the video Douglass says the site is "taking sentences and phrases out of context, and they're cobbling them together to leave a very false impression."

Separately Tuesday, the leading health insurance trade group hit back at Democrats' growing criticism of the industry. Karen Ignagni, president of America's Health Insurance Plans, contended the attacks were motivated by increasing public doubts about the introduction of a new public insurance plan to compete with the private market. Obama and Democrats support such a plan but insurers contend it would drive them out of business.

People in the health insurance industry "do not deserve to be demonized or vilified as part of a campaign to distract attention away from the sinking support for a government-run program," Ignagni said on a media conference call.

Ignagni did not name names and declined to say whether her group, which has been working with lawmakers and is running positive TV ads supporting bipartisan health reform, would walk away from the table or go negative against Obama's agenda. She said insurance industry employees were being encouraged to attend town hall meetings being held by members of Congress this month to make their views known.

In recent weeks Obama has taken to referring to his health care overhaul initiative as "health insurance reform" instead of "health care reform." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and other congressional Democrats have noticeably heightened their attacks on the health insurance industry, with Pelosi accusing insurers last week of making "obscene" and "immoral" profits.

Caution this song will get stuck in your head

White House Counsel's Job at Stake

Read his lips: Does tax pledge put Obama on shaky ground?
That famous phrase from George H.W. Bush came as he accepted his party's presidential nomination at the Republican National Committee convention in 1988. At the time, it was exactly the red meat Republicans were looking for. But campaigning and governing are two very different things.

Bush was elected as the nation was slipping into a recession. When confronted with a growing national deficit, he had to find a source of revenue. That revenue came in the way of raising taxes, a move that especially rankled members of the GOP and became an issue for Democrats to run on in 1992. Democrat Bill Clinton was swept into the White House.
With 42% of the vote.
Pushing forward to 2009, another president may have trekked onto the same territory.

No middle-class tax increases, White House insists
Despite warnings from President Obama's top economic advisers that new taxes for middle-income Americans cannot be ruled out, the White House insisted today that the president's "commitment" to a campaign pledge to avert new taxes for those earning less than $250,000 a year holds firm.

Both Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner and chief economic adviser Lawrence Summers had suggested during appearances on the Sunday morning news talk shows that tax increases could not be ruled out for Americans earning less than the threshold that the president has set.

Democrats walk a careful line on...But White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs adamantly and repeatedly insisted today that the president remains committed to his pledge — though he was unable to explain why Geithner and Summers had strayed from the administration's line.

2 Obama officials: No guarantee taxes won't go up
President Barack Obama's treasury secretary said Sunday he cannot rule out higher taxes to help tame an exploding budget deficit, and his chief economic adviser would not dismiss raising them on middle-class Americans as part of a health care overhaul.

As the White House sought to balance campaign rhetoric with governing, officials appeared willing to extend unemployment benefits. With former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan saying he is "pretty sure we've already seen the bottom" of the recession, Obama aides sought to defend the economic stimulus and calm a jittery public.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and National Economic Council Director Larry Summers both sidestepped questions on Obama's intentions about taxes. Geithner said the White House was not ready to rule out a tax hike to lower the federal deficit; Summers said Obama's proposed health care overhaul needs funding from somewhere.

"There is a lot that can happen over time," Summers said, adding that the administration believes "it is never a good idea to absolutely rule things out, no matter what."

Crowd Explodes When Arlen Specter Urges That We "Do This Fast"

#3  Were an MP to act as Mr Specter has done, he would be going home and never returned to office. He stab his party in the back repeatedly and then jump parties when challenged! He ignores his people he is to represent. His reputation would earn a vile disloyal coward, and opportunist, and untrustworthy, and undeserving of crate to stand on and speak, unsuitable for even a town council seat.

Could someone who knows USA Political System better than I please explain to me why Mr Specter has any credibility, and remains electable?

Is this another case of the unexplainable stupidity of a state politics, like Senator Franken in Minnesota?

#4  Notice sebilius has the same drop the mic and grimicae off to the side, make funny face move? It looks like she has repeated that move a few times. "I have never been in congress...its the hardest I've ever seen congress work." Amazing, the silver mullet strikes again!
Posted by: swksvolFF || 08/04/2009 10:33 Comments || Top||

#5  Unfortunately, Lagom, voters in this country are not very sophisticated. All too often it is the candidate who has the most money who wins elections. The candidate who is the best at pimping himself out is usually the one who wins. They get the money from unions, corporations and special interest groups and they use it to buy 30 second sound bites on TV. Those little sound bites are about all the voters ever learn about them. You also get candidates like Obama who have what they call "charisma" which, as far as I can tell, means that people like him. They don't know why. They don't care what he has to say because he looks good, he has a good voice and he's charming. He makes people feel good talking about motherhood and apple pie while avoiding specifics. Once they make it into office, like Specter has, the special interests are eager to curry their favor by making generous contributions to their next campaign which is why it is extremely difficult to unseat an incumbent. The TV and newspapers will bore you to death with stories about how the candidates are doing in the polls and how much money they have to spend on their campaigns but they will give you precious little information about how they stand on the issues. But there are times when you get a guy who is so bad that even the voters figure it out. We can only hope that this is such a time for Specter.

#6  In simple words Lagom - TV and Hollywierd have melted the average voters brain.
Posted by: 3dc || 08/04/2009 12:41 Comments || Top||

#7  A lot of that Ebbang is because the M-F media is refusing to do their job - that is to _inform_ the voters.

Instead of in-depth and measured review of a canidate's record and history we get 30-second sound bites or fluffy-bunny interviews (Boxers or Briefs? - heck the interviewer should know since they are down there often enough).

Unless of course the candidate isn't in favor with the media elite - in which case you get a virtual army of investigative reporters and researchers digging into personal history of the candidate, their family and their family's friends mother. Not to mention overtly hostile interviews with condescending interviewers which are later hacked up and misquoted to make the candidate look like an idiot on steroids.

Do you think just calling him a cocksucker & demanding he retire & go the hell away would be counterproductive? I don't approve of federal meddling with health insurance enough to engage substantially - "don't fucking do anything" isn't likely to fly with a meddling ass like snarlin' Arlen.
Posted by: Mitch H. || 08/04/2009 20:27 Comments || Top||

#13  Mitch, I think it would be better to take a page from Alinsky (yep, Obama's fave philosopher), and find a way to put him up for public ridicule.

Y'know, ask him precisely what part of the bill did he bother to read personally, since he couldn't manage to read the whole thing....ask if the cancer treatment that his sorry ass received will be covered under the pending legislation....ask if his loss of seniority after switching parties kept him from successfully submitting any amendments to things like the Obamacare bill, cap and trade, etc.....you know, nice subtle ways to stick in the knife and watch the pathetic troll twist.

Trust me, it will be far more satisfying than calling him names that we all know he deserves....especially if you can get it on YouTube. ;)

Arab Americans meet at White House
Arab-American leaders had their second meeting with top Obama White House officials.

A July 29 statement by the Arab American Institute said the meeting, July 23, included officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the White House Office of Health Reform, the National Security Council (Israel-Palestine affairs and Gulf affairs), the FBI, and the Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties of the Department of Homeland Security.

“The two-hour briefing covered many topics of interest: the expectations at NSC about next steps in U.S. Middle East policy and the roles of Senator George Mitchell, Dennis Ross and other major players; background on some recent high profile cases involving FBI informants and surveillance policies and the impact on community trust; and concerns about non-immigrant visa delays at DHS,” the statement said.

“New details about security clearance procedures for intelligence agency hires were laid out, including lifting the automatic dismissal of applicants with dual nationality and or foreign relatives, allowing non-minority applicants to be tracked using ‘heritage’ options on application forms, sponsoring a new ‘affinity’ group for agency employees with origins in the Middle East and North Africa, and scholarships for national security majors at Wayne State University in Michigan.”

Clearance for intelligence agency applicants has also been a concern of Jewish civil liberty groups. U.S. citizens with relatives in Israel have reported harassment and rejection in recent years.

In addition to the Arab American Institute, other groups attending included the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, the American Task Force for Lebanon, the American Task Force for Palestine, the American Federation of Ramallah, Palestine, the United Palestinian Appeal, and the Moroccan Club of Washington, D.C. A similar meeting took place in April.
