Somalia: AU helicopters over Mog
(SomaliNet) Two gunship helicopters belonging to the African Union Peacekeepers could be seen flying over the Somalia capital Mogadishu on Tuesday as overnight shelling killed civilians. It was for the first time that Mogadishu’s residents saw military helicopters flying over the city since 1995 when UNOSOM troops left the country. The people expressed fear that AU UPDF troops in the capital may launch air strikes on the unknown gunmen who, last night, fired nearly 30 mortar rounds at the government bases, including the seaport.

But Paddy Ankunda, the spokesman for the AU peacekeeping mission in Somalia said no African Union troops will involve war with Somalis. Instead he said the AU would encourage efforts of bringing rival sides on the table to end difference through dialogue. On Monday the AU troops took control of Mogadishu’s seaport shortly after Ankunda revealed to the reporters that a ship carrying military equipments for the AU in Somalia was going to dock the port.

Muslim pupils kill teacher

MUSLIM pupils at a secondary school in northeastern Nigeria beat a teacher to death today after accusing her of desecrating the Koran. Oluwatoyin Olusase, a Christian, was adjudicating an Islamic Religious Knowledge exam at the school in Gombe state when the incident occurred. The students attacked her outside the school compound after the exam and killed her, witnesses said. It was not clear exactly what Olusase had done that angered the students.
1) she is a Christian 2) she is a woman 3) she is a teacher.
Police confirmed the killing and said their intervention had prevented the incident from turning into a riot. "We have received information that a female teacher has been lynched by her students. We are investigating the report," Gombe state police commissioner Joseph Ibi said.

At least five people were killed and several churches burned down in February 2006 in the neighbouring state of Bauchi by Muslims infuriated that a Christian teacher in a secondary school had tried to confiscate a Koran from a student who was reading it during class. Word got out into the streets that the teacher had desecrated the Koran, infuriating Muslims who went on the rampage.

At least 15,000 people have died in religious, communal and political violence in Africa's most populous country since 1999, when Nigeria returned to democracy after 30 years of almost unbroken military rule.

Doesn't matter. It's like the PC madness, only lethal: actual intent is irrelevant - only the inferred insult matters.

#3  The infidel dared to touch the Koran. Seems the Christian teacher, while adjudicating an Islamic Relgious Knowledge exam asked the muslim pupil to shut the Koran during the test. Student refused so she shut the book for him/her.

Muslim humiliated by being caught cheating. How dare an infidel presume.

Nigeria - smegma nation of phishing and muslim piety.

#1  Perkins, who returned last summer after almost a year's duty in Iraq, shot a man outside his apartment March 9 in what he says was the culmination of months of insults by some of his neighbors from the Middle East.

Perkins, 34, said some residents in the ethnically diverse Kristopher Woods Apartments taunted him and made spitting sounds when they saw him in uniform heading to or from National Guard duty.

Perkins said he shot 26-year-old Tareq Ali Bualsafared in self-defense after Bualsafared and another man threatened him. He said the two men rushed toward his front door even after he fired a warning shot.

Got to love that military marksmanship.

Bualsafared, a college student from the United Arab Emirates, said Perkins was the aggressor. He said Perkins cursed them.

Deport the turd.

#2  " . . . much more widespread--the problem of Muslim nationalism. Muslim nationalists, as I define them, are those who see their primary national identity as 'Muslim'. A problem because they see themselves as 'foreigners' living amongst us. A double problem because these 'foreigners' sympathize with the very enemies we fight. An intrastate 'clash of civilizations'."

#5  This will not decline, this will increase. The time will come when retaliation will occur. Get ready for PC arrests and riots among the muzzies. Then, when it is clear that the government is incapable of kicking a single ass, attack them and wipe out entire neighborhoods. Our future choice will be either kill them all, or surrender our freedoms to the religion of piss. This time, the police got it right, but I have so little faith in a country that would send two innocent border guards to prison for a dozen years for shooting AT a drug runner.

42 Uzbeks among 58 dead: Fierce clashes in S. Waziristan
PESHAWAR, March 20: Forty-two Uzbeks militants and 16 tribespeople were killed in two days of fierce clashes in the volatile South Waziristan tribal region, government and security officials told Dawn. They said another 27 Uzbek militants had been captured by tribal militant commander Maulvi Nazir.

There was no independent confirmation of the death toll on both sides but information gathered from three different government security sources corroborate reports emerging from the restive region that the tribespeople who had once whole-heartedly welcomed foreign militants were now on a hunting spree for them.
"Manolo, fire up the limo! I need more popcorn!"
Officials said announcements were made from mosques on loudspeakers in some villages in Wana, regional headquarters of South Waziristan, exhorting local tribespeople to stand up and wage a “jihad” against Uzbeks. One official said Tojikhel, a sub-clan of the dominant Ahmadzai Wazir tribe in Wana tribal region, had asked its people to hunt down Uzbeks wherever they were found.

The exact number of militants from the central Asian republic associated with the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan led by Tahir Yaldashev in Wana is not known but intelligence estimates vary from eight hundred to little over one thousand. A security official said Mr Yaldashev had bravely gone into hiding and had not been seen since the first flare between local tribespeople and Uzbek militants early this month that had left at least 17 Uzbeks dead.
"Curly toed sandles, don't fail me now!"
Officials said among the 16 tribespeople killed in two days of fighting were four students whose bus was caught in a cross-fire on Monday. The sources said 12 seriously wounded tribespeople – two women, two girls and eight students – were evacuated by helicopter from Wana for proper medical treatment. The number of wounded has been put at more than a hundred with most being treated at a local hospital in Wana. A senior security official told Dawn that militant commander Maulavi Nazir had given Uzbeks until Wednesday morning “to surrender, leave or prepare for action.”
That would be Taliban militant commander Nazir. I'm hoping for mutual destruction.
"It's Tuesday mornin', Tahir! Yew got 24 hours to surrender, git outta town, or go fer yer guns!"
The government, it appears, has chosen to take a back seat and allow tribal dynamics to play out to deal with the situation, fearing that any intervention to side with tribespeople or militants supporting the action against foreign militants could discredit the whole campaign. “Let the primitives tribespeople slaughter each other deal with the situation. That’s the best way to deal with the problem.
"No skin off our fore!"
"There is a groundswell of support for action against Uzbeks and any attempt by the government to intervene in support of the tribal action would actually discredit it. There is tribal sensitivity involved here,” the official said.
They've got their feet up and are on their third bag of Orville's best.
The latest flare-up, the second this month, occurred after the killing of an Al Qaeda-linked Arab identified as Saiful Adil last week. His body was found abandoned in the outskirts of Wana.
Sigh, so much to cheer, so little time
Maulavi Nazir, a top pro-Taliban militant commander in Wana region, suspected Uzbeks for their involvement in the murder.
"Aaaar! It wuz 'em Uzbeks wot dunnit, I'll betcha! They're a mean-eyed, shifty lot!"
"But boss! We're a mean-eyed and shifty lot, too!"
"Shuddup!"
The security official said a foreign militant and his tribal escort carrying blood money to the widow of Saiful Adil were also attacked on their way which added fuel to the fire.
"Harrrr! Gimme yer dough!"
"Take the blood money! Don't kill us!"
Tisk, tisk. Interferring with the local customs. Guess they didn't pay attention during their sensitivity training classes
Maulvai Nazir had strained relations with Uzbek militants due to their alleged involvement in local crimes, decided to take them on, banking largely on popular support for his action, government and security officials said. The officials said militant commanders were now clearly divided over the issue with some supporting the Uzbeks.
"Well, I think the Uzbeks are a devout lot and they'd never [KERBLAMMO!]... [THUD!]"
"Y'know, I hate them Uzbek bastards!"
At least three of those supporting the Uzbeks had signed peace agreement with the government in November, 2004, including Maulavi Abbas, and were siding with foreign militants, the officials said. The sources said Siraj Haqqani, the son of a veteran Afghan mujahid and Taliban leader, Jalaluddin Haqqani, and his aide, Bakhta Jan, had reached Wana to intervene and persuade the combatants to stop fighting and settle the issue through dialogue.
"Can't we all just get along?"

But one official said the afternoon talks between senior Taliban figures and Maulavi Nazir and his tribal supporters had failed and another round was expected sometimes late Tuesday evening. Hand-picked, Nazir owes his own position to the Haqqanis, who rule with an iron hand wield tremendous influence and power over militant commanders in the restive North and South Waziristan tribal regions.

Officials said the fighting was mostly concentrated in Zha Ghundai, Azam Warsak and Kaloosha areas of Wana region. “There is sporadic gunfire”, one official said. One report indicated that militants from banned jihadist outfits, who had also taken sanctuary in Wana, had also joined the tribespeople and blocked the Wana-Azam-Warsak road and checking vehicles for Uzbek militants. “What essentially was a fight between a pro-government tribal elder and Uzbek militants has now turned into a larger fight, bringing in the likes of Maulavi Nazir. We were waiting for this to happen with bated breathes and thank God it has happened. Those who were too weak but wanted to take on the Uzbeks now feel emboldened. We were anticipating this for a long time and now it unfolding before our eyes”, commented a government official.

#1  Is there any reason i should care? Are there any implications in this for overall stability in Afghanistan or is this just another story of neanderthals killing each other?
Posted by: Geoffro || 03/21/2007 9:06 Comments || Top||

#2  ah, very good story, as it seems to reconcile the two competing lines in the western press, which, to review are
1. Pro-govt tribals are taking on AQ Uzbeks as the behest of the Paki govt, in line with recent agreements
or
2 Its a pure Jihadi civil war, Pashtun Taliban (Angry over the death of their Arab friend) vs Uzbek AQ

In fact, per this article, it IS the second, BUT the Paki govt is quietly encouraging the taliban/tribals, and choosing to read it as fulfillment of the agreement against foreigners, but carefully NOT getting involved or taking credit for it. The Paki govt is also making popcorn, as Steve says, but unlike most of us, they think they have a dog in this fight.

Strikingly similar to the events of the last few months in Gaza, with Nazir taking the role of Dahlan, and Perv as Olmert. Of course this is on territory in which Pakistan is nominally soveriegn. OTOH, the fighters here are rather more effective at actually killing in an open fight than the Gazans are. Pashtuns can at least shoot straight.

The gunbattle broke out at Chhotimargi-Lolab, 115 kms from here, early on Tuesday morning when militants hiding there opened fire at a joint search party of 18-Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of local police, Senior Superintendent of Police (Kupwara) Vijay Kumar said.

Four LeT militants, a captain and a soldier were killed and another personnel was injured in the gunbattle which lasted for several hours, he said. A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

40 killed in Wazoo clashes
More than 40 people were killed and several wounded in clashes between local and foreign militants on Tuesday in the Azam Warsak and Kaloosha areas, west of Wana in South Waziristan, said officials in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan. Army Spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad could not give an exact figure for the death toll, saying, “The death toll has reached over 40 … this is what I have at the moment. ”

A tribal source said the militants were still fighting. The authorities said the clashes began at around 3am, and the majority of the dead were foreigners, mainly Uzbeks. Locals said that among the dead were four children who were caught in the crossfire. AFP reported that 27 children had also been injured. They said that injured people had been shifted to Wana for treatment.

The reason for Tuesday’s clashes was reported to be differences between local tribesmen and foreign militants over the law and order situation. Both blamed each other for the increasing crime rates and deaths in the area.

Agencies add: AFP quoted security officials as saying that heavy exchanges of rocket and mortar fire were made for a second day around Kaloosha, in clashes between pro-government tribesmen and Uzbek militants. AFP said the fighting started after ex-Taliban commander Mullah Nazir, who backs President Pervez Musharraf’s moves to expel foreign fighters, ordered followers of Uzbek militant Tahir Yuldashev to disarm.
Army spokesman Arshad said the military did not intend to step in. However, Reuters quoted an intelligence official as saying that the latest clashes were not a simple conflict between pro-and anti-government forces.
Security officials say Yuldashev, the head of a group called the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, had links to Osama Bin Laden.

The officials said that 33 of Yuldashev’s supporters were killed and 22 detained. Army spokesman Arshad said the military did not intend to step in. However, Reuters quoted an intelligence official as saying that the latest clashes were not a simple conflict between pro-and anti-government forces. He said the fighting broke out on Monday over the killing of an unidentified Arab with suspected links to Al Qaeda, who was an ally of local tribesmen led by Nazir. The local militants blamed the death on the Uzbeks, triggering a gunbattle in Kaloosha. Reuters reported that almost 50 people had been killed.

Iraq
Iraqi VP Calls For Talks With Insurgents, Not al-Qaeda, Possible Early Elections
Iraqi Vice-President Tareq al-Hashemi used an interview Wednesday to call for talks with insurgents in the country -- with the exception of Al-Qaeda.

"I do believe there is no way but to talk to everybody," he said, adding that militants were "just part of the Iraqi communities".

All parties "should be invited, should be called to sit down around the table to discuss their fears, their reservations," he said, while adding that Al-Qaeda was "not very much willing, in fact, to talk to anybody".

In his comments published on the BBC's website, Hashemi noted that many people in Iraq were "annoyed" that coalition troops in the country were "damaging the dignity of Iraqis" but stressed that they should stay "until further notice".

He also expressed discomfort that sectarianism was reflected in the make-up of Iraq's government.

"(It) might be that the Iraqis need to be convinced that to break up this polarisation we have to go for, first of all, election system reform and second, to go for early elections," he told the broadcaster.

Building A Dam In Anbar
Work is progressing on the construction of a new dam in the restive Province of Anbar to help nomads find enough pasture and water for their herds.

Anbar is the largest Iraqi province in area. Though River Euphrates passes through its territory most of the province is barren desert.

The dam will cost 14 billion dinars (one dollar is worth 1,300 dinars) and rise to a height of 17.5 meters, according to Raad Abduljaleel, head of the state-run Directorate for Dams and Reservoirs.

Abduljaleel said on completion the dam will store 6.82 million cubic meters of water collected mainly from rain water.

The plan is to have the nomads settle in the area close to the dam, Abduljaleel said.

It is not clear whether the authorities will help Iraqi nomads with housing.

But Abduljaleel said a housing complex is being built for the engineers and workers constructing the dam which is expected to finish in 2008.

Ramadi, a major stronghold for anti-U.S. insurgents, is the capital of Anbar Province which also includes Falluja, another rebel bastion in western Iraq.

IRAQI POLICE CLEAR CENTRAL RAMADI
ITM previewed this yesterday, but here it is from CentCom.
RAMADI, Iraq (March 20, 2007) - The Western Ramadi District Police conducted a massive police operation targeting insurgents today in Ramadi.

Coordinating between several stations within his district, Brig. Gen. Khalil Ibrahim Hamadi, chief of the Ramadi District Police, personally led more than 500 policemen as they conducted house-to-house searches in the capital city of Al Anbar Province.
"The Sons of Ramadi work tirelessly to eradicate criminals and bring them to justice," said Khalil. "Today we achieved a noble goal in providing security and stability to our families and the people of Ramadi."

During the 10-hour operation, named Operation Lions of Ramadi, police detained more than 45 suspected insurgents, confiscated propaganda material and discovered several caches containing assault rifles, machine guns, and mortar and artillery shells used to produce improvised explosive devices.

Insurgents utilizing an IED during the operation killed one civilian and injured five. The wounded were transported by local citizens to a nearby Joint Security Station, then evacuated to a Coalition medical facility for further treatment.

#3  Darth,
I'm quite concerned about Mookie and his boys. They are not going to stay quiet. Iran won't let them, for one thing. Plus, it's just not in their nature. My guess is they may lay low until we leave though (so we don't kill a whole mess of them), then come out to go 'Killing Fields' on the Sunni. (The Kurds may play 'Ollie North' and arm both sides just to keep them concentrated on killing each other and leaving them alone.)
Posted by: Glenmore || 03/21/2007 13:21 Comments || Top||

#4  I'm hoping the bulk of the police were Sunni.

If true, this is a very good sign. If the police had a lot of help from Kurdish or Shia Iraqi Army units, its just a moderately good sign. If it is just a Sunni general hand puppet its not a big deal.

#5  I think the Iraqis see what's happening in Washington, and realize their only hope is to show that they're willing to lead in cleaning their house. They're afraid it's only a matter of time before the Americans (and other MNF forces) are withdrawn, and the only way forward is to do as much as possible before that happens. It's VERY good news, but also a reason for us to at least maintain a capable force in Iraq for the next few years until this takes hold permanently.

Five Terrorists Killed
Coalition Forces killed five terrorists, destroyed a bomb-making factory and detained three suspected terrorists during an operation Wednesday near Taji.

As ground forces entered the target buildings, they encountered several armed men. Coalition Forces used self-defense measures killing five terrorists and detaining three suspected terrorists.

During the raid, Coalition Forces discovered an adjacent building was being used as an explosives factory. Inside the building, Coalition Forces found large caliber ammunition and explosive manufacturing materials including numerous 50-gallon barrels of explosive material.

Coalition Forces conducted an air strike to destroy the explosives factory, associated vehicles, ammunition and weapons. At least four large secondary explosions were noted after the initial bomb was dropped on the target, indicating the destruction of the explosive material within and beneath the structure.

A careful analysis was conducted prior to the strike, and every possible precaution to avoid unnecessary collateral damage was taken. No Coalition Forces or civilians were injured during the operation.

“Coalition Forces will continue to systematically kill or capture al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists regardless of where they may hide or operate,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson. “No place is safe for a terrorist in Iraq.”

Yup, JerseyMike, Beslan is what confirmed for me that Islam poses a unique and fatal danger to all Infidels. I'm glad this article has been run again today. It needs massive publicity. The intentional slaughter of children represents something beyond terrorism. Such blatant disregard for the sanctity of even the most innocent human life goes to the roots of all humanity's survival, Muslim or otherwise.

As I mentioned yesterday, when Islam finally commits their one last stupendous atrocity and the West teeters on the brink of massive nuclear retaliation, incidents like Beslan and yesterday's will only serve to disinhibit those who have to make the final agonizing choice.

It is in this way that Islam foredooms itself without any assistance from the West.

#11  The current level of Iraq coverage UK-side seems to be almost minimal, please correct me if I'm wrong, so don't expect to hear about this much on the MSM at all.

The whole of this week, the BBC is doing TV specials on the News from Iraq pointing out clapped out 20 year old choppers, no-go areas, and everybody has to fly everywhere; but not the 40 yr old heads on 20 yr shoulders on limited budgets, whilst Britain gets flogged to the highest bidder back home by asses who shake Mugabe's hand.
Any positive word is backed onto by... their failure to secure; not a word about who is stirring it, and keeping the war going, and which war it is, GWOT.

It's like they don't even see the dots and the little numbers next to them, or maybe they're just counting backwards towards being proper dhimmis in a caliphate. Whatever. Their pain is less if they bury it on page 32 on a need-to-know basis.

#12  Off Topic: (Sort of)

Today, I was over at my favorite Middle East food store talking with the owner's daughter. I used to admonish her for the strong anti-Muslim feelings she expressed, her being a Syrian Christian and all. More recently, I have had to begin agreeing with her about some issues.

I'm sure most of you remember that several months ago a 19 year-old San Diegan soldier was shot through the heart while handing out candy to Iraqi children.

It turns out the woman at the store is a personal friend of his family.

He was their only son.

All I could do was implore her to extend my deepest sympathies and gratitude, then almost dash out of the shop as my vision clouded over.

39 al-Qaeda fighters killed in Falluja
Continues yesterday's story...
(KUNA) -- Members of an Iraqi tribe along with local police managed to kill 39 al-Qaeda fighters in the town of Falluja, west of the capital city, Iraq's state TV said on Tuesday. The clash between the two sides resulted also in the arrest of seven more al-Qaeda fighters, said the TV station. Falluja falls within the al-Anbar province which has witnessed a marked escalation in recent times in the pursuit of fighters from the al-Qaeda by local tribesmen with the full support of local government forces.

Prime minister Nuri al-Maliki had visited strife-ridden al-Anbar province last week as a show of government support to local tribesmen and government-sanctioned armed groups going after terrorists wreaking havoc in that province. The tribesmen see themselves as part of a government-approved organization known as "al-Anbar Revival" led by a distinguished Sunni leader named Sheikh Abdul-Sattar Abu Reesha.

Either the Govt of Iraq, or direct sources in the tribes. The Americans and the Iraqi Government [IA soldiers] are working incredibly hard, shedding blood to help the WOT and the Iraqi people, win the hearts & minds if you will.

Yet everyday the media lies about the sacrifices, distorts the record number of completed projects using the technique of burying America's good works in Iraq with countless lies propagated by our enemies.

OTOH, the Terrorists and their supporters have effortlessly won the hearts & minds of the MSM. Further, the media has returned the love by freely giving the terrorist free unfiltered airtime and ink.

#5  actually even NPR went this morning (after discussing the travails of Gonzales) with the battle near Fallujah, and said several insurgents died, and 5 Iraqi coppers wounded. From which I concluded it was a pretty good day in Iraq, cause otherwise theyd have led with whatever bad thing had happened.

But lets be clear. Dropping of school supplies, building waterworks, etc, is NOT going to win this war until we have the security situation to the point were the insurgents cant just blow up what we've just built? Havent we all learned that by now? Clear, hold and build. Build, and dont hold, is just a waste of resources - gives the insurgents a more target rich environment, is all. The MSM isnt dumb to focus on the security situation. They are often innaccurate, and sometimes obnoxius in how they cover it (which is why I come HERE, for balance.

BTW, is there anywhere other than the mall that Bush wants us to be?

#6  BTW, is there anywhere other than the mall that Bush wants us to be?

Nope. And thats the problem I have with President Bush. He has failed to communicate the sense that we as a nation are at war. He needs to be using the "Bully Pulpit" every week to drive it home that the war on terror is going apace, that there is hard fighting to be done in all th4eaters of war, and that Iraq matters. He also has failed to connect us with the war in a personal way - we shoudl have "War bonds", a war tax or some other personal thing that brings the peopel into the shared sacrifice, not jsut the troops and their families. Thats one of the reasons the anti-war folks can get away with so much: there is a disconnect so severe that they can pretend we arent at war and they dont have anything importnat at stake.

Hell, Reagan had the whole nation (except for the fringes) convinced we were at war with the Soviet Union and Communism world-wide, and we had to buckle down and get the job done. And that was without an overt war going on.

This is the major failing Bush has had: he either fails to communicate, or simple refuses to do so.

And in this day and age, failure to communicate is eventually failure to win, especially when the other side, politicially, militarily or culturally, is not afraid to use a press that leans their way.
Posted by: OldSpook || 03/21/2007 10:21 Comments || Top||

#7  "And thats the problem I have with President Bush. He has failed to communicate the sense that we as a nation are at war."

And that failure is not accidental: in his January 11th address to the troops at Ft. Benning, Bush said,

"On September the 11th, our nation saw firsthand the destructive vision of a new kind of enemy, and once again the men and women of Fort Benning answered the call to protect our country from that enemy. You know, I knew that right after the attacks, the American psyche being what it is, people would tend to forget the grave threat posed by these people. I knew that. As a matter of fact, I was hoping that would happen so that life would go on. But the fortunate thing for this country is that those who wear the uniform have never forgotten the threat. You understand the stakes."

Yep, they forgot all right, and life did go on. In fact they forgot so well that the Left could step in with a free hand and start convincing people that we shouldn't be fighting. And bit by bit, their anti-war campaign is working.

This was a MAJOR blunder-- one which very likely will cost us this round of the war-- on Bush's part. It's not enough that America's military are at war with the enemy; the American people must be, as well. And a large part of the blame for their failure to support the war can be attributed to Bush's desire for "life to go on."

Bad move.

Posted by: Dave D. || 03/21/2007 10:46 Comments || Top||

#8  The more I see Bush fail to communicate this message, the more I'm reminded of Lyndon Johnson's failure to call the country to arms over Vietnam. He knew that if he did there was no hope of passing things like his "Great Society" horsecrap or civil rights legislation.
He didn't WANT America to concentrate on winning in Vietnam.

I think Bush is afraid of what might happen here if he calls Muslims out for being the lying, murderous scum that they are. He doesn't want to see vigilantes popping Muslim individuals just for being Muslim, or firebombing mosques, or much less have to deal with an irresistibly huge national call for mass Muzzy deportations.

In short, neither of them wanted to fight their wars the way Americans feel war should be fought--all out, balls to the wall, do whatever it takes to win. Johnson's pussyfoot approach cost him his presidency and brought America its firat, and a completely unnecessary, defeat.

Bush may be doing the same thing.
Posted by: Mac || 03/21/2007 11:29 Comments || Top||

#9  America doesn't fight to WIN wars, at least not anymore. But that may be ok in the greater context. If one 'wins' the war, but trashes the economy in the process, what was really accomplished? If one fights to a draw in the war, but the economy thrives (and the enemy's economy is trashed), then one 'wins' the greater war. So when the soldiers fight to a draw in the diversionary battle the Valley Girls forget about the battle but win the greater war by going to the mall. It isn't something a Bush could think up, but I think it fits the facts.

Hamas, Fatah fighters clash in Gaza, one killed
Popcorn futures, after a recent downturn, rose on the news...
GAZA (Reuters) - A militant loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction was killed and four were wounded on Wednesday in the first deadly clash between Fatah and Hamas since a unity government™ was formed four days ago.

Fatah said Hamas's so-called Executive Force fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the northern Gaza home of a senior al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades commander, killing one of the group's members. Four gunmen were wounded in the battle but not the al-Aqsa commander, Fatah said.
'so-called' executive force? You mean they aren't so executive after all?
Fatah spokesman Abdel Hakim Awad said Hamas had planned the attack in advance and warned of dire revenge "grave consequences™" if the Islamists mounted any more.

A spokesman for Hamas's armed wing, Abu Ubaida, said Hamas gunmen had only responded to shooting from the al-Aqsa commander's house. He said a Fatah fighter was preparing to fire a rocket-propelled grenade when it exploded in his hands, killing him and wounding the others.
HA-ha...
It was the first deadly clash since Abbas's secular Fatah faction and Hamas Islamists formed a unity government™ on Saturday. Despite the coalition agreement, tensions between the Hamas and Fatah factions remain high, especially in Gaza.
Hmmmmmm? Probably why they're trying to kill each other...

#1  100% of captured suicide-murderers have admitted to being inspired by clerics who relayed the Hadith promise of "72 virgins" in heaven, in exchange for terror. Two weeks before 9-11 a Paleo cleric was seen doing that on "60 Minutes."

FYI: Mohammed's "Meccan Suras" of the unholy Koran, do nothing to incite violence. It was only after he joined up with his bandit gang in the Jewish town of Yethrib, when he began claiming rewards in the afterlife, for martyrdom against Meccan tribesmen. When he had sufficient numbers, he renamed Yethrib, "Medina," and began murdering and, or expelling Jews. And Muslim "sunna" - emulation of the self-proclaimed "prophet" - compels similar duplicity and savagery.

#6  So, it's a "SEX FOR DEATH" campaign.

Maybe if they stop infibulating their women, the appeal of killing themselves to get some would evaporate. I mean, I'm sure they feel like something is definitely missing within the sexual experience.

In fact, the overweight ladies in the graphic, despite the unhealthiness of their bodies, are at least intact and could no doubt show these Muslim sex-crazed whackos a MUCH better time than their own Mulsim "virgins"/wives who no longer have functioning sex organs. The fantasy that the women (in the so-called Muslim paradise) are just OVERJOYED to have them there to have sex with, speaks of women who, naturally, have their reason to be "overjoyed" still attached.

The Muslim PREOCCUPATION WITH ORGY SEX marks their culture as immature and backwards. The ability to hold on to fantasies that loads of women (coming from where, exactly?) are just chomping at the bit to have sex with them, so that, presumeably, they can bask in some sort of self-indulgent adoration (of themselves) festival (--and what happens to the refractory period? guess it disappears), hearkens back to absurd pagan religions of the past.

Also, the supposed reward after death only mimics their life--a life of irresponsibility in which the men build nothing of value, do nothing of value, follow nothing of value, and become nothing of value.

From the video: "the best of Palestine . . . " are the ones with homes and money doing the suicide bombings/raids. Okay, so that's the best they have to offer. Got it.

#7  "Also, the supposed reward after death only mimics their life..."

Their reward is a physical one, demonstrating that their faith, their heaven, is earthly, not transcendent. Their "heaven" is still oriented around and bound to the flesh.

Southeast Asia
Jihadis stage brutal public murder at wedding in southern Thailand
Gunmen shot and killed a Muslim couple selling toys just outside a wedding ceremony late Tuesday night, police said.

Vendor Edin Lade and his wife Rosamariya Bula were selling toys before a wedding ceremony in Cho Ai Rong district of Narathiwat. A group of gunmen walked up and fired directly into the heads of both of the toy sellers, before the eyes of hundreds of local residents attending the wedding. The couple died instantly, and the gunmen ran off as wedding guests scattered in fear and confusion. Police claimed to be hunting for the killers.

Meanwhile, insurgents ambushed an army patrol in the South early Wednesday, killing one and wounding two others, who were in critical condition. The attack took place at around 5 a.m. in Bacho district of Narathiwat.

Police said insurgents, heavily armed, opened fire on a unit of 10 patrolling soldiers who were following the separatists in the area of Duku village. Ambush sparked a 10-minute firefight, after which the body of the dead Thai officer was found.

The two injured soldiers were rushed to Bacho hospital before being transfered to Narathiwat Ratchanakarin hospital. Police believed that the shooters are members of the RKK separatist movement.

The shootout took place just a few hours prior to Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont's visit to Nong Chik district, Pattani province. Gen Surayud travelled South to listen to progress made in the investigation into an extremist ambush of a passenger van last week, when they murdered the eight passengers.

Indonesia denies top (as in Noordin Mohammed Top) terrorist captured
INDONESIAN police have said they did not capture one of Indonesia's prime terror suspects, wanted for helping protect Bali bombings mastermind Noordin Mohammed Top, in a raid yesterday.

Indonesian officers from the Detachment 88 anti-terror squad, which Australia helped set up after the Bali bombings, killed one terror suspect and injured another during the ambush on a Yogyakarta street last night. The men are believed to be members of the network of prime terror suspect Abu Dujanah, wanted for helping protect Noordin Top - Indonesia's most wanted terrorist. Noordin Top is blamed for sourcing the bombers and materials used in both the 2002 and 2005 Bali bombings. It was unclear whether Abu Dujanah, also known as Ainul Bahri, was among those involved in the shootout in front of a shop in the Depok sub-district of Yogyakarta, about 7pm (11pm AEDT) yesterday.

Indonesia's Metro TV reported Abu Dujanah, from west Java, was one of six people arrested, but Inspector General Bekto Suprapto, the head of the police's anti-terror unit, said this evening that he was not among those arrested, killed or wounded. "This is Abu Dujanah's network," police chief spokesman Sisno Adiwinoto said earlier. "There are some suspects, but they are Dujanah's network. The Detachment 88 is still chasing the rest of the group."

Members of the Detachment 88 squad are combing the crime scene, along with officers from the bomb squad, mobile police brigade and Yogyakarta forensic police. Mr Adiwinoto said two empty bullet casings were recovered from the scene. He said two suspects were shot, one fatally. "The rest were taken by Detachment 88 to chase the others," he said.

Indonesian newspaper Indo Pos said police also seized three motorbikes. One witness, a mobile phone voucher salesman Asnawiyah, said he heard two shots yesterday evening. "It was very fast," he told Indo Pos. "At that time I heard two shots, one got hit."

The ambush followed the posting of a bomb threat on Yogyakarta's provincial government website yesterday afternoon. "This is a serious warning," the anonymous message said. "We will bomb places like discos ... just wait for D-day and never go to those places if you want to be safe." However, provincial chief police Hari Anwar denied any link between the ambush and the threat.
I like 'Detachment 88'. It has a nice Orwellian ring to it.

One killed as Palestinian factions clash
A Palestinian militant died on Tuesday from wounds suffered in a clash between two factions at a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon a day earlier, security sources said.

Four other people were wounded in the fighting between Fatah Uprising and Fatah al-Islam at Nahr al-Bared camp near the port city of Tripoli on Monday night, they said. The slain gunman belonged to Fatah al-Islam. The clashes subsided overnight. Tension has been high in the camp since the Lebanese authorities announced last week that members of Fatah al-Islam had confessed to twin bus bombings in a Christian area in February that killed three people.

#17  A professor at the University of West Virginia was giving a lecture on the supernatural. To get a feel for his audience, he asks, "How many people here believe in ghosts?" About 90 students raise their hands.

Out of those of you who believe in ghosts, do any of you think you've seen a ghost?" About 40 students raise their hands.

"Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost?" About 15 students raised their hands.

"Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?" Three students raised their hands.

"Now let me ask you one question further ..... Have any of you ever made love to a ghost?" Way in the back, Bubba raises his hand.

The professor says, "Son, all the years I've been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have made love to a ghost. You've got to come up here and tell us about your experience."

When Bubba reached the front of the room, the professor asks, "So, Bubba, tell us what it's like to have sex with a ghost?"

Bubba replied, #$@!%!!! From way back thar ... I thought you said, "Goats" !!!!!
