-Lurid Crime Tales-
Judge refuses to dismiss charges against Breck Boy
[NY Post] A federal judge has refused to dismiss criminal charges against former North Carolina Senator John Edwards
...Former senator from North Carolina, former vice presidential candidate, former Democratic presidential contender. Edwards was noted for his Two Americas stump speech and for his pretty hair. People started to notice which of the two Americas he belonged to when he got a $400 haircut in his private plane. While his wife, Elizabeth, was dying of cancer Breck Boy was porking a hussy named Riehl Hunter, with whom he fathered a child, then paid one of his aides to claim that the baby was his. He is currently trying to explain to the friendliest judge he can find how he happened to use campaign funds to do all that, rather than dipping into his own considerable fortune...
for allegedly using campaign funds to cover up an extramarital affair during his 2008 run for the White House.

In court filings and during hearings Wednesday and Thursday, Edwards' attorneys argued that the prosecution of the once prominent Democrat is politically motivated and characterized the charges against him as unconstitutionally vague because the laws in question failed to provide "fair warning" that his alleged conduct was illegal.
Democrats are suddenly interested in mens rea? Though to be fair, Breck Boy would fail that test as well...
"Maybe the FEC [Federal Election Commission] will issue a rule that no candidate can accept a third party payment if it goes to a mistress in an extra-marital affair," Edwards' lead defense attorney Abbe Lowell said before US District Court Judge Catherine Eagles Wednesday. "Maybe they will do that in the future, but in 2008, it didn't exist."

Eagles announced she was denying Edwards' motion to dismiss the charges in court Thursday.

Edwards is charged with one count of conspiracy, four counts of receiving illegal campaign contributions, and one count of making false statements to federal authorities in covering up his alleged crimes. Edwards has pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to all charges. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

#1  He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

We can only hope.

#2  Edwards was close to being president. Obama compared to Edwards re character; a toss-up.

#3  Look at it this way - he can still do "good things" in his remaining days - he can give hair-care tips in the prison shower

#4  I expect Bubba and his buddies will keep him too busy for that Frank.
(Unfortunately he'll probably be able to buy himself into one of those country-club prisons...)

Dana Rohrabacher Lies Again About Aiding OBL's Taliban Pals
First, the Weekly exposed that Orange County's senior career politician paid his wife 50 percent of the federal campaign contributions he raised in the latest reporting period and that she has taken more than a quarter of a million dollars in contributions since 2006.

Then, Rohrabacher must have also guzzled one too many tequila shots before he blamed President Barack Obama for the top one percent of Americans enjoying a huge income disparity gap that began in 1993, when Obama was an unknown Chicago constitutional law professor.

Now, the man who wasn't brave enough to volunteer for Vietnam War duty when he was eligible to serve in the military is ridiculously touting on Twitter his own brilliance fighting Middle East terrorism.

In an Oct. 27 post, a battered Rohrabacher stated to nobody in particular: "In 1990s I was one of the few trying to defeat Taliban by building coaltion [sic] that after 9-11 became Northern Alliance. Awarded medal for this."

That statement is a purposely misleading half-truth. It is true that at one point the congressman had harsh words for the Taliban. But it is more true that before and after those harsh words he vociferously supported the Taliban at the very time it harbored Osama bin Laden and his terrorists prior to the airplane attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

As I've previously reported, Rohrabacher told a Washington, D.C. news outlet in 1996 that liberals in the American news media had smeared the noble intentions of the Taliban. In fact, in one of the biggest blunders in American political history, he stated that Taliban members were not "terrorists or revolutionaries" and that "their takeover of Afghanistan would be a positive development" for the United States.

You can stop laughing now. During Bill Clinton's second term as president, Rohrabacher did ridicule Clinton for, get this, allegedly doing what the congressman had done: snuggle up to Taliban leaders.

But in April 2001--less than five months before bin Laden's devastating terrorist attacks, Rohrabacher was back on board with the Taliban--a move the congressman seems to have conveniently forgotten.

It gets better ...

Amazingly, yes it does. Why does the honourable Congressman from Orange County keep getting reelected?

"Virtual Third Party" May Jump Into 2012 Prez Contest
H/T Drudge
Until now, handicapping for next year's presidential election has focused on how President Obama might fare in a two-candidate race. Could Obama beat Mitt Romney? Rick Perry? Herman Cain? (In all three cases, the answer is probably yes.)
Actually, the campaigning hasn't started yet. I'd guess that any one of the three could beat him handily, and that Cain would make him look like Walter Mondale.
It's the Times; standard disclaimer that 'of course Bambi will win'; otherwise both their readers get very, very upset...
But there's likely to also be a wild card in this election.
... since the Dems have to realize they're gonna get trounced...
Americans Elect, a Democrat astroturf setup a well-funded "virtual third party," plans to put a spoiler intended to drain the Trunks' share of the independent vote centrist presidential candidate on the ballot in all 50 states, and while he or she is unlikely to win the presidential election, the presence of a third candidate could still have a major impact on the outcome.
Who they gonna put up? Is John Anderson still around? Or are they gonna have to talk Ross Perot into coming out of retirement?... Oh, surely not Bloomberg?
Sure, why not? He only has to take a bite out of the gullible independents to tip the race back to Bambi...
Americans Elect is a collection of Republicans, Democrats and independents
but mostly Democrats
but almost completely progressive Democrats
who know that an astroturf effort like this is the only way Obama wins say they're fed up with the polarization that has poisoned American politics.
Yes, we've all seen that movement arising... ummm... no, we haven't, actually.
Some of its backers have previously contributed to Obama, Romney or other candidates. Several are fans of New York Mayor Michael Nanny Bloomberg, who has flirted with the idea of running as a third-party centrist.
Bloomberg's not a centrist. He's a laughingstock outside Noo Yawk. I'm not sure he's not a laughingstock inside Noo Yawk.
The group's central figure is Peter Ackerman,
From his Wikipedia entry:
founding chair of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict and the managing director of Rockport Capital Incorporated. He chaired the board of trustees of Freedom House from September 2005 until January 2009. He is a member of the Board of the Council on Foreign Relations
That's not really a subtle picture, is it?

a wealthy investor and former banker who considers himself an independent and who was active four years ago in a similar effort called Unity08.
But you can bet your bippy that Soros is somewhere behind the curtain...
More likely behind the curtain behind the screen behind the wall behind the curtain...
It could be a Bloomberg vanity campaign, since his name keeps coming up as the "nominee."
In January 2008, Bailey and Rafshoon announced that they were leaving the organization and were planning to launch a national effort to draft New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to run for president. Shortly thereafter, representatives for Unity08 announced that the organization was scaling back operations and suspending activities, citing lack of adequate funding and disputes with the Federal Election Commission. Unity08 was unable to resume operations prior to the 2008 presidential election.
One potential pitfall for this well-financed intended effort is the opportunity for mischief. Americans Elect, because of recent court rulings, doesn't have to report who its donors are.
That clinches it...Soros HAS to be involved in this thing.
I'm guessing he only has to play backup...
"Your ACORN volunteers are on my payroll, Mayor Bloomberg. Nice little campaign ya got there -- it'd be a shame if something happened to it..."
Its organizers don't intend it to become a spoiler, but Republicans or Democrats
but mostly Democrats
could flood it with money to try to make it one.
... Bloomberg not wanting to finance it out of pocket, which would make it pretty obvious who the driver is...
I don't think the Pub voters will be fooled by this, but independents, particularly low-interest, low-information independents, might get sucked into this. At the very least these astroturf groups try to 'dirty up' the process and depress enthusiasm, and that certainly helps the Dhimmicrats in 2012.
I think Bloomberg has delusions of adequacy and that Soros and the Dems would be perfectly happy massage his oversized ego and kick in a few bucks. They'd like to see him grab off two or three percent of the popular vote so that B.O. could edge back into orifice for another four years of rampant misrule.

#6  How much is BO paying for this one? The irony is in the 'Blue States' the Donks have made it virtually impossible to run as a third party

#7  I've been predicting this since 2010 when the MA Dems did this with Tim Cahill. At that time I figured that the Dems would do this with Hillary or with Evan Bayh or Jim Webb. It didn't occur to me that Bloomberg would be the one but now that he has been mentioned it makes sense as a spoiler.

Bloomberg is precisely the sort of Northeast big-government,nanny-state loving anti-Christian bigot who would sign on to this sort of project.

#8  Donald Trump has occasionally hinted that he might be open to stepping back into the race he never quite stepped into in the first place...

#9  The idea is not only to confuse but to give the media another name to lift up and suck air out of the republican nomination. Slanted polls will most likley pin this newcomer as taking votes from the center right hoping to create a self-fullfilling prophecy. I don't think it'll work any more than their attempts to prop up Romney.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 10/28/2011 21:13 Comments || Top||

#10  Likely, believer in the three prong theory. First, would be to flood the market (3rd parties and staw candidates), second would be foreign policy scores, third would be dependence.

Why they fail. Education on the first, third is that the government is incompetent so they cannot get it implemented in time...second is debatable. I'm not totally sure the owes movement is part of that plan or an emergency pressure valve/vent going off.

Wish I could that sanguine about what the bad guys (and yes, you quislingcrat b@$st@rds, I'm talking about you) are planning behind the curtain.

First, there's the media assault on the Trunk presidential field, aka the "debates." I'm still wondering what the hell the RNC is thinking by allowing the MSM to control the debate battlespace at this point. It's turning our side's nomination process into a mud-wrestling match specifically designed to cast the eventual nominee as damaged goods, more easily defeated by Ogabe.

Second, the MSM propaganda mill's just getting warmed up. You think they totally abandoned "objectivity" in '08? You ain't seen nothing yet - for '12, they're going to do the Full Goebbels. Exhibit #1: this bizarre article by Jonathan Alter* on Bloomberg.com: Obama’s Miracle Is a Scandal-Free White House. Simply jaw-dropping in its audacious mendacity. Don't read until you've had a couple of glasses of wine - I know it helped me.

*: I think this assclown's a former JournoList member, but I couldn't confirm in my limited research.

#1  Boy do some Pak's hate this guy. I spoke to a couple from Pakistan when Musharraf was in power. In my opinion the country doesn't have any uniformity. It's like they are at each other one problem after another. I just know them to be some of the best metal craftsmen in the world. Shrewd business people. Others here would know more. If I was Musharraf I'd get outta dodge.
