Afghanistan
8 Policemen Injured in Samangan
[Tolo News] Eight Afghan coppers were maimed by a roadside kaboom blast in northern Samangan province on Monday evening, local officials said.

The incident took place in the Hazrat Sultan district of the province when a police convoy struck a hidden Improvised Explosive Device (IED), Samangan Police Chief Mohammad Akram Begzad said. The police were said to be carrying out duties related to election security when the blast occurred.

Although none of the coppers were killed by the blast, some of them were said to be at death's door. All of those who injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

With only a few days left until Afghans head to the polls to elect their new president on Saturday, security forces are on high alert, stepping up precautionary measures across the country.

According to the Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA), Afghan security personnel have opened up hundreds of new checkpoints and increased searches around the country.

Additionally, the Afghan National Army (ANA) has launched proactive operations in a number of provinces to eliminate major Death Eater threats that could disrupt the voting process.

Taliban Suicide Bomber Turns on His Own Commanders, Kills 15
[Tolo News] At least 15 senior Taliban capos were killed on Tuesday in Ghazni province by a jacket wallah reportedly attempting to keep them from carrying out plans to disrupt Saturday's elections, according to Afghan officials.

In addition to the 15 confirmed dead, nine other bully boyz were maimed by the blast, which occurred in the Gelan district of Ghazni, according to the National Directorate of Security (NDS). Among the casualties were said to be Pak Taliban leaders.

Insurgents have publicly stated their intent to derail the elections, which will mark the country's first democratic transition of presidential power in history.

The Taliban capos were reportedly meeting to plan Election Day attacks when one of their own decided to turn against them using the very tactic made infamous by the bad boy group.

Tuesday's incident was first made known by the NDS and then confirmed by the Ghazni Governor's office.

Violence around the country has increased in recent weeks, including a number of attacks on Independent Election Commission (IEC) offices in Kabul and elsewhere.

The Taliban has also threatened voters with violence, yet over the course of the past week there has been a major surge in voter registration. Many Afghans have said they plan to participate in the elections as a way of defying the turbans.

Explosives seized ahead of election
Afghan security forces have seized more than 22 tonnes of explosives, enough to make hundreds of bombs, the interior ministry said on Tuesday, four days before a presidential election. Taleban insurgents have declared war on the April 5 vote, calling it a Western-backed sham and threatening to disrupt it.

“This discovery will prevent hundreds of bomb attacks and would have a significant impact on the overall security of the elections,” Sediq Sediqqi, an Interior Ministry spokesman, told Reuters.

Authorities are keen to show they are capable of keeping the vote safe and orderly as most foreign troops prepare to leave the country by the end of the year.

Sediqqi said the explosives, hidden in some 450 bags, were seized from a basement in the relatively peaceful northern province of Takhar, where the Taleban have gained ground in recent years.

Major cities have been placed on high alert this week with 352,000 security forces deployed around the country to prevent attacks on polling stations and other installations.

Africa Horn
Radical Kenyan Muslim cleric shot dead in Mombasa
A prominent hardline Muslim cleric in Kenya was shot dead in Mombasa on Tuesday, amid worsening religious tensions in the strategic port city and gateway to east Africa.
His obituary is a particular pleasure to read...
Abubaker Shariff Ahmed, better known as Makaburi, was a vocal supporter of Osama bin Laden and had described last year's attack on the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi, which was claimed by Somalia's Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab rebels, as "100-percent justified".

Makaburi was also on UN sanctions lists and accused of being a "leading facilitator and recruiter of young Kenyan Muslims for violent militant activity in Somalia", and of having "strong ties" with Shebab leaders.

Senior police officer in Mombasa Richard Ngatia confirmed Makaburi had been killed by "unknown assailants", and an AFP reporter in the city saw his bloodied corpse. Makaburi, dressed in white robes, was shot in the chest. Another young man was also shot dead alongside Makaburi.

"One of them is the body of Abubaker Shariff alias Makaburi," Ngatia told reporters, adding that family members had identified the body. "They were waiting for a car to pick them up when people in a passing car shot at them. We don't know who killed them and why. We shall conduct an investigation."

There were angry scenes outside the police station where the body had been taken, and police fired into the air to push back furious supporters of the cleric.

Mohamed Ali, who described himself as a "long-time friend of Makaburi", said he was with the cleric during the shooting, which occurred outside a Mombasa courthouse.

"We were expecting to be picked up outside the court, when we heard sudden gunshots. We all went to the ground," he said.

In an interview with AFP only last month, Makaburi had said he was resigned to being killed: "My life is in danger. They will eventually kill me. They do that," he said.

A prominent leader at the controversial Musa Mosque, a scene of frequent unrest in Mombasa, Makaburi presented himself as a simple man promoting "true Islam",
...the most violent kind...
and said the best examples of Islam were to be found in parts of Fallujah in Iraq, Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and Shebab-held areas of Somalia.

He also blasted Saudi Arabia as "a Christian country ruled by somebody who pretends to be a Muslim".

The firebrand cleric, who was in his 50s, had praised the suicide commandos who stormed Nairobi's part-Israeli-owned Westgate mall in September, massacring at least 67 people -- among them women and children -- in a four-day siege that was carried out in retaliation for Kenya's intervention in Somalia to fight the Shebab.

"It's our innocents for your innocents. It was justified. As per the Koran, as per the religion of Islam, Westgate was 100-percent justified," Makaburi told AFP.

Kenya police arrest more than 650 after bomb blasts
Kenyan police have arrested more than 650 suspects a day after six people were killed in bomb attacks in the capital Nairobi, the interior minister said on Tuesday, in a crackdown on suspected insurgents.

"This act of cowardice perpetrated against innocent and peace-loving Kenyans who were going about their normal activities is barbaric," Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku said in a statement.

"So far 657 suspects have been apprehended," he added.

Kenyan police regularly arrest scores of people after similar attacks in sweeping security operations, but later release most after questioning.

The three blasts on Monday evening targeted two small restaurants and a local clinic in a particularly densely populated area of Eastleigh, an area often known as Little Mogadishu because of its predominantly Somali population. No one has claimed responsibility for the blasts, but Eastleigh has in recent years been the scene of several explosions usually attributed by the police to extremists.

The attack comes a week after six people died when assailants burst into a church near the port city of Mombasa and opened fire on worshippers.

Kenyan authorities last month ordered all refugees, most of them Somalis, to report to two overcrowded camps, a move criticised by rights groups and the United Nations. However, police argue the move is necessary for security.
Refugees generally have few rights in the host country: they're there at the sufferance of the host. If they want to move about freely, not live in camps and have some sort of life then they have to cooperate with the authorities and turn in the rascals amongst them. The Somali refugees are lucky they aren't being deported, which Kenya has every right to do.

Africa North
Army spokesperson: 3 extremists killed in North Sinai raid
[Egypt Independent] The armed forces spokesperson Ahmed Ali announced on Tuesday the killing of three forces of Evil and the arrest of 52 others during a raid in the cities of Sheikh Zuwaid, Arish, and Rafah, North Sinai.

The three killed were implicated in the recent attack on a bus for coppers in North Sinai, according to Ali.

The killed hid on a hill in order to remotely detonate a bomb they planted at al-Shallaq village entrance, and record the operation by a camera to show the inability of the second field army to control the security situation in North Sinai, Ali wrote on his Facebook page.

Fifty-two others, including a Paleostinian who was allegedly carrying over LE11,000, were nabbed
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
, he added.

Ali also said an bomb planted next to the Electricity Company of Arish was defused during the raid.

"Fourteen huts used by terrorist elements as launching pads to carry out attacks against personnel of the army and police were burned, three cars and six cycle of violences without license plates, and five tunnels in Rafah were destroyed," he wrote.

My Twilight Years ~ Clint Eastwood

As I enjoy my twilight years, I am often struck by the inevitability that the party must end. There will be a clear, cold morning when there isn't any "more." No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat.

It seems to me that one of the important things to do before that morning comes, is to let every one of your family and friends know that you care for them by finding simple ways to let them know your heartfelt beliefs and the guiding principles of your life so they can always say, "He was my friend, and I know where he stood."

So, just in case I'm gone tomorrow, please know this.

I voted against that incompetent, lying, flip-flopping, insincere, double-talking, radical socialist, terrorist excusing, bleeding heart, narcissistic, scientific and economic moron currently in the White House!

Participating in a gun buy back program because you think that criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you think your neighbors have too many kids.

Regards,

Clint

Gunmen attack Libya sports ministry
[MAGHAREBIA] The Libyan sports ministry headquarters in suburban Tripoli will be closed until further notice, following an attack by more than a dozen armed assailants on Sunday, Libya Herald reported on Monday (March 31st).

"A small group came with guns and told everyone to leave," ministry official Walid El Kilani said. "We don't know why. The men gave no reason for the incursion," he said.

The gunmen reportedly threatened to shoot staff if they did not leave the office

Dozens Injured as Clashes Erupt in Egypt Cities
[An Nahar] Clashes erupted Tuesday between student supporters of Egypt's ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi
...the former president of Egypt. A proponent of the One Man, One Vote, One Time principle, Morsi won election after the deposal of Hosni Mubarak and jumped to the conclusion it was his turn to be dictator...
and security forces in several cities, wounding at least 33 people, the health ministry said.

The violence came as registration of candidates for the May 26-27 presidential election entered its second day, with former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who led Morsi's ouster last July, widely expected to win.

At least 31 people were hurt when students of Al-Azhar University's branch in the southern city of Assuit clashed with security forces, officials said.

Fighting was also reported at Cairo's Ein Shams University, while police fired tear gas in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria and in the central city of Mansoura as pro-Morsi students clashed with security forces.

Two people were maimed in similar fighting in the Nile Delta city of Damanhur.

Violence erupts regularly at universities, which Morsi supporters use to challenge the military-installed authorities.

On Tuesday, Cairo's Al-Azhar University expelled 25 students, blaming them for violence the previous day.

In a separate incident in Damanhur on Tuesday, three Sisi supporters were hurt by pro-Morsi students.

The two groups clashed when Sisi's supporters had gone to register their backing for his presidential candidacy.

Every candidate has to procure the signatures of at least 25,000 backers to formally register for the election.

Militants kill Egyptian army officer
Militants
Known to intelligent people outside the MSM as 'terrorists' ...
shot dead a retired Egyptian army colonel on Sunday, security and medical officials said, hours after assailants killed a soldier in the restive Sinai Peninsula.

Masked men gunned down the retired colonel on a highway between the capital and the Suez Canal city of Ismailiya, the officials said. Hours before, gunmen shot dead a soldier in an ambush on a military bus in northern Sinai, the nerve centre of the militant campaign.

Police and soldiers have been battling a burgeoning insurgency that the government says has killed more than 400 people since the army toppled president Mohamed Mursi in July. The vast majority of those killed were soldiers and policemen, mostly in the Sinai peninsula.

The interior minister, meanwhile, announced that police had arrested the leaders of a deadly terrorist militant group that targed policemen in the Nile Delta, where militants have deployed from bases in the Sinai. Interior Minister Mohammed Ibrahim said that police arrested the leaders of terrorist militant group Ansar Al Shariah that targeted policemen in the Nile Delta.

Africa Subsaharan
15 civilians killed in 'suicide attack' in Nigeria
[An Nahar] Fifteen non-combatants were killed and 17 others were maimed in a suicide kaboom in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
carried out by suspected Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
myrmidons, the military said on Tuesday.

Defense front man Chris Olukolade said one of the victims was a member of a civilian vigilante group and that the blast, on the outskirts of the capital of restive Borno state, Maiduguri, destroyed eight vehicles.

"Six of the bully boyz died while one has been tossed in the calaboose
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
," he added in a statement.

Earlier in the day, four would-be jacket wallahs planning to blow up a petrol station died in Nigeria's troubled northeast after soldiers opened fire on their explosives-packed cars, the military and witnesses said.

The suspected Boko Haram Islamists were trying to attack a filling station owned by Nigeria's state oil firm on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the epicenter of a brutal insurgency which has already killed an estimated 1,500 people this year.

Olukolade said in a statement that "three of the four explosive-laden vehicles were demobilized by shots fired at them by soldiers".

Shortly after the officers opened fire an kaboom "rocked the area", said Olukolade, adding that "four terrorists" died and five soldiers were maimed.

Initial reports indicated that the troops stationed at the checkpoint on the Maiduguri-Damboa road were the target.

But witnesses later said the attackers were trying to speed through the checkpoint so they could set off the blasts at the petrol station, which was backed up with vehicles because of fuel shortages across Nigeria, Africa's top oil producer.

Local residents said some soldiers or bystanders may have been killed by the blasts but there was no immediate confirmation.

bully boys.

Similarly, 35 locally made Improvised Explosive Devises (IEDs) were also recovered from the bully boyz after what the DHQ described as a fierce encounter between the Camerounin forces and the Boko Haram bully boyz at Abugasse, close to the Chadian border.

The DHQ also said four suspected turbans believed to be jacket wallahs were killed by their own explosives while heading towards an NNPC facility along Maiduguri-Damboa Road.

The suspects were said to be traveling in four explosive laded vehicles which were demobilised by gun shots fired at them by soldiers at a nearby check point, leading tothe kaboom.

The statement added that five soldiers were maimed, civilians he number of civilian casualties was yet to be determined.

A statement by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said other weapons recovered from the bully boyz by the Camerounian authorities included pistols, mortar bombs, sub machine guns and various calibres of ammunition.

The recovery was said to have been made following the arrest of two suspects believed to be major arms suppliers to the Boko Haram turbans in Nigeria.

Over 50 Camerounian passports and a Toyota jeep were also recovered from the suspects.

Olukolade said the seizures were made following a renewed collaboration between Nigeria and the Cameroun in the fight against insurgency in the Northeastern part of Nigeria.

"Apart from arms recovered following disclosure from captured turbans lately, more arms have been captured in the ongoing offensive in different fronts.

"The arrest at a check point of a terrorist driving in a green Peugeot vehicle with registration Number Bauchi 264 AA heading to Maiduguri from Alagarno during the weekend, led to the recovery of 15 AK47 rifles and 12 magazines and various yet-to-be assembled rifles.

" Meanwhile,

the offensive on turbans in various fronts is continuing. The Alagarno area as well as various points of Sambisa forest and suburbs have been witnessing intense operations since Monday.

"Apart from several dead terrorists, 14 vehicles which were either being used for operation or hidden by the turbans in various parts of the forests and theatres have been destroyed.

"Various calibres of weapons and ammunitions were also recovered in the course of fighting and subsequent cordon and search of the areas. Intensive air and ground surveillance are also ongoing in the general area", the statement added.

, Borno, Yobe elders allege
People at the press briefing in Abuja on Monday were stunned by revelations made by Political Elders Forum from Borno and Yobe States on how helicopters were used in servicing Boko Haram members at their camps.

The elders, led by a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Al-amin Dagash (retd), who read the press statement on behalf of the members of the Forum, revealed how helicopters were used in distributing food, medical items, arms and ammunition to the strongholds of the Boko Haram.

Flanked by a former Minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma; a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe; elderstatesman, Shetima Mustapha, and some political and opinion leaders from the two states, Dagash wondered why the government failed to provide answers raised by the bully boys' attack on the Maiduguri Air Force Base, where the snuffies demobilised and burnt planes and other military installations despite the existing state of emergency and curfew in the town.

The elders who spoke under the aegis of Borno, Yobe People's Forum, also asked the Federal government to tell Nigerians those who authorised the withdrawal of security personnel from the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, few hours before the attack that claimed the lives of 59 innocent children.

According to Dagash, security reports from affected communities on possible attacks were earlier ignored by security operatives and the government.

He said "Are the authorities unaware of helicopters dropping arms and ammunition, food and medical supplies to areas well known to be strongholds of the surgents?

"How were the bully boyz able to attack the Maiduguri Air-Force Base and demobilise as well as burn planes and other military installations despite existing state of emergency and curfew in the town? How could 20 to 30 Toyota Hilux vehicles move in a convey freely with subsisting curfew and still go undected?

"How did a little band of rag-tag misguided youths metamorphose into a well kitted, well armed killing machine moving freely in convoy of vehicles and supported by helicopters.

"How did the Shilka Tank, a multipurpose self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery weapon positioned to secure Giwa Barracks fail to function resulting in heavy loss of lives of both civilian and military as widely reported in the media? Are we dealing with fifth columnists in this crisis?"

Arabia
US-led drone strike in Abyan takes down al-Qaeda operatives
[Yemen Post] Less than a week after President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi expressed his unconditional support of drone strikes as a valuable tool against terror, officials confirmed that a US-led drone strike targeted on Tuesday a vehicle believed to be linked to well-known terror krazed killers.

The strike took place in the southern province of Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
, a region which back in 2011 fell under the control of al-Qaeda. It took the government six months in 2012 for its military to expulse terror operatives out of Jaar and Zinjibar, cities in Abyan which were declared Islamic Caliphates by Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libya, Tunisia and Yemen, with the Libyan and Tunisian versions currently most active...
h, an offshoot of al-Qaeda in Yemen.

Even though the government has since then partnered with local rustics organized under Popular Committees to prevent terror bully boyz from staging a comeback to the restive province, ongoing political instability and a breakdown in security has meant that al-Qaeda operatives have grown bolder, putting once again the entire of Yemen' southern region in jeopardy. Only Sunday, al-Qaeda bully boyz ambushed pro-government rustics in a stretch of road northeast of Zinijibar in between Lauder and Moudia.

Local residents have said to be concerned over the possibility of more drone strikes in the area as the authorities will attempt to run terror bully boyz out of the province, thus increasing the likeliness of civilian casualties.

Tuesday strike occurred in Mahfad. Officials have yet to confirm how many bully boyz were killed in the strike

Activists in Yemen have warned they will continue to campaign against drones as they feel they pose a too greater threat to civilians.

Attackers Kill 2 Yemen Police in Separatist Bastion
[An Nahar] Attackers on a cycle of violence rubbed out two Yemeni coppers in the southern separatist bastion of Daleh overnight, a security official said Tuesday, just weeks after a truce was agreed.

The two attackers, one riding pillion, fled after gunning down the officers guarding the southern town's cop shoppe, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
.

A third policeman was maimed in the shooting, which came less than three weeks after a March 13 prisoner exchange between southern separatists and the army was supposed to turn the page on months of deadly violence in and around the town.

In the deadliest incident, tank fire on a funeral tent for a slain separatist Death Eater killed 19 mourners in Daleh on December 27.

The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
has expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
for the plight of more than 45,000 civilians it says are desperate need of humanitarian assistance in Daleh province.

It has urged both the separatists and the 33rd Armoured Brigade in Daleh to spare civilians and not launch attacks from populated areas.

On February 18, three non-combatants were killed in a firefight that also claimed the lives of seven soldiers and three separatists.

Last month's prisoner exchange saw the release of 30 soldiers captured by the Southern Movement in return for 37 detained separatists.

The province is a stronghold of the hardline wing of the Southern Movement which demands renewed statehood for the formerly independent south.

The separatists rejected plans unveiled in February for six-unit federal Yemen in which Daleh would be part of the Aden region, one of two planned for the south.

South Yemen was independent between the end of British colonial rule in 1967 and its union with the north in 1990.

A secession attempt four years later sparked a brief but bloody civil war that ended with northern forces occupying the south.

Militants loyal to al-Qaeda have also been active in the region, carrying out repeated hit-and-run attacks on the security forces.

Yemen Police, Qaida Clash Kills 4
[An Nahar] Two Yemeni coppers and two al-Qaeda suspects were killed in a clash Tuesday when forces of Evil attacked a checkpoint in a bid to free four tossed in the calaboose
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
comrades, the interior ministry said.

The clash erupted after the security services detained "four al-Qaeda snuffies at a checkpoint in (the western province of) Hudaydah" at dawn, the ministry said in a statement.

Two hours later, al-Qaeda snuffies in two cars, one of them booby-trapped, launched an attack on the checkpoint, it said.

This sparked an exchange of fire during which two coppers and two of the assailants were killed.

Two other coppers and a third attacker were maimed as the rest of the forces of Evil fled, and the authorities were dismantling the unwent kaboom! bombs planted in the vehicle.

The United States views al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula as the global jihadist network's most dangerous branch.

AQAP has claimed repeated deadly attacks, some of them in the heart of the capital Sanaa.

Despite repeated attempts by the army to crush AQAP in its strongholds in the east and south, snuffies continue to carry out deadly attacks on security forces across the country.

Five unidentified individuals were found dead in a mass grave in Sinaloa state Tuesday, according to Mexican news accounts.

A new report which appeared in the online edition of El Diario de Chihuahua said the dead were found in a grave in Ahome municipality in northern Sinaloa state. The location of the grave, colloquially known as a narcofosa, was near the village of San JosĂŠ de Ahome.

Usually mass graves are burial grounds of kidnapping victims, who are often killed even though a ransom had been paid. The news report said that a number of missing persons reports have been filed in the region in the past, but did not say if the bodies were among those victims.

A news report also said that the area where the narcofosa was found is the territory of Isidro Meza Flores, AKA El Chapo Isidro, the leader of the Meza Flores drug cartel.

A total of 11 men were killed in several gunfights in the border cities of Matamoros Monday and Reynosa Tuesday, according to official Mexican news accounts.

On Monday Leticia Salazar, the mayor of Matamoros, a Tamaulipas city that borders the United States, warned her city via Twitter about roadblocks and gun fights taking place in Matamoros.

Late Monday night the Grupo Coordinacion Tamaulipas reported a total of five armed suspects were wounded in gunfights with Mexican security forces.

According to the news release which appeared on the website of the Tamaulipas state government, gunfire was exchanged starting at 1300 and ending at 1500 hrs, spreading to other sectors of the city.

One gunfight, which took place at 1400 hrs near the intersection of calles Valle Real and Valle Monica in Valle Real, left one Mexican Army soldier dead.

According to the report the incident began in Uniones colony, where a Mexican Army road patrol attempted to stop a SUV. The SYV attempted to flee, initiating a pursuit. When the patrol followed the SUV into Valle Real colony, the soldiers were ambushed.

The report said a number of other army road patrols were ambushed in other sectors of the city. The report said that at least five armed suspects were wounded in the fighting.

A news account which appeared in the online edition of El Diario de Coahuila news daily said that a separate encounter took place between Mexican Army forces and armed suspects at 1330 hrs near the intersection of calles de Sendero Nacional and 12 de Marzo in Las Aguilas and Puerto Rico colonies, as well as at other sectors in the city.

Armed suspects put up roadblocks in the streets and laid out across several streets in Matamoros ponchar de los neumaticos, or metal stars used to puncture vehicle tires .

A Mexican Naval Infantry helicopter was also deployed Monday in an attempt to prevent the escape of armed suspects traveling in the city by vehicle and was fired on by armed suspects.

According to the news report five armed suspects were killed in a firefight on Avenida Uniones in Esperanza colony near the Decofimex factory.

The five dead were said to be members of the Gulf Cartel.

According to a news account which appeared in Notinfomex, a number of gunfights and road blocks have taken place in Reynosa, which left five armed suspects dead.

The sudden activity in Reynosa is said to be local criminal gangs' reaction to the detention by a Mexican Naval Infantry unit of a Gulf cartel plaza chief identified in news account only as El Simple.

Another news account which appeared in Amigos de Tamaulipas website mentioned a Tweet by the Nuevo Leon Coordinacion Estatal de la PoliciaFederal which warned that a number of gunfights and roadblock were taking place in Reynosa, warning Nuevo Leon residents away from the region.

Twitter reports include roadblocks on Avenida Hidalgo, and said that government helicopters are flying in the area.

The Notinfomex account said that a total of five armed suspects have been killed in Reynosa so far.

Israeli Army Opens Heavy Gunfire on Outskirts of Shebaa Farms
[An Nahar] Heavy gunfire was reported at dawn on Tuesday in the occupied Shebaa Farms near the Israeli military site of Ruwayssat al-Alam.

According to the state-run National News Agency, the Israeli army opened sporadic fire on the outskirts of the occupied area for half an hour.

The NNA said that the incident was accompanied by Israeli drones that flew over the Shebaa Farms, Golan Heights and Mount Hermon (Jabal al-Sheikh).

On Monday, the Israeli army planted a surveillance device along the technical fence to spy on Leb, the NNA reported.

It was one of several incidents on Israel's northern borders with Syria and Leb last month.
