al Shabaab fills top vacancy, no longer accepting applications.
[Rooters] The Somali Islamist militant group al Shabaab confirmed on Saturday that its leader Ahmed Godane had been killed in a U.S. air strike this week and named a new leader, promising "great distress" to its enemies.
Happy hunting, Air Force drone drivers.
U.S. forces struck Godane's encampment in south-central Somalia with Hellfire missiles and laser-guided munitions on Monday, but the Pentagon did not confirm his death until Friday.

Western governments and neighboring countries want to neutralize a group that they say has exploited Somalia's chaos to attract jihadists and train them to fight.

In a statement, al Shabaab reaffirmed its affiliation to al Qaeda, and named its new leader as Sheikh Ahmad Umar Abu Ubaidah, warning its enemies to "expect only that which will cause you great distress".

Little is known of al Shabaab's new leader, but a local elder who asked not be named said he had joined al Shabaab in 2006 and, like Godane, hailed from the Dir clan. Godane himself was named head of al Shabaab in 2008, less than a week after his predecessor Aden Hashi Ayro was killed in a similar U.S. raid.

It is being claimed that there have been no less than 26 separate attempts to talk to Libyan Dawn representatives, all of which have been rebuffed.

The group was made up of 13 representatives from the HoR Ceasefire Committee set up on 17 August. House member Sallah Al-Sahbi told the Arabic language newspaper Buwabat Al-Wasat, they had been trying to negotiate the ceasefire and convince Libya Dawn

12 Killed as Yemen Rebels Clash with Tribes, Army
[AnNahar] At least 12 people were killed in fierce overnight festivities between army-backed Yemeni tribes and Shiite Houthis pressing a protest campaign against the government, tribal sources said on Saturday.

Fighting raged in Jawf province north of Sanaa as rebels sought to seize routes to the capital where their supporters have staged weeks of escalating protests against the central government.

Tribal sources said fighting in the Ghayl and Majzar regions straddling Jawf and Marib, east of Sanaa, killed 12 people, raising the corpse count from festivities since Thursday to 34.

Twenty soldiers and rustics and 14 rebels were killed, the sources said.

Rebels used tanks and artillery against government forces and rustics defending the area, tribal sources said, insisting that the offensive was repelled.

AFP was unable to verify the corpse count with independent sources or to obtain rebel confirmation of their deaths.

Analysts say the rebels, also known as Zaidis or Ansarullah, are trying to establish themselves as the dominant political force in the northern highlands, where Shiites are the majority community in the mainly Sunni Arabian Peninsula nation.

The Shiite Huthis held protests throughout much of August to push for the government's resignation.

They have rejected overtures from President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi to name a new prime minister, replace the government and reduce a disputed fuel price hike.

but the Gay Paree Correctional Tribunal sentenced him to two months in jail and another two months suspended sentence, the news site 20minutes.fr reported Wednesday.
North African, fond of anti-communal violence, assaulted a p'liceman, not a French citizen? This man wants investigating, along with all his friends and relations.
The man, who was not named, has been in jug since July 22 and is expected to be released in the coming days, according to the report.
Let the investigating commence!
The assault took place July 19 in the center of Gay Paree, when thousands gathered near the Gare du Nord train station for an unauthorized rally to protest Israel's actions against Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,.

That weekend riots also erupted in the northern suburb of Sarcelles, where hundreds of men started fires and smashed the windows of shops at the heavily Jewish municipality after police prevented them from approaching its main synagogue. Nearby, rioters hurled a Molotov cocktail at another synagogue, which sustained minor damage.

During his trial, the man denied any wrongdoing, contending that someone threw the metal bar at him, and that he merely gave it to police.
"Oui, oui, I gave it to them, Monsieur le Justice, as hard as I possibly could."
French police have tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!

Lady health worker shot dead
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: A lady health worker (LHW) was rubbed out at her doorstep in Cantt View Colony on Range Road on Friday.

Police said though the LHW was a member of a polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
vaccination team in Fatehjang, they ruled out that the murder had any connection with her job. They said the suspect came to the house of the LHW in the garb of an income tax officer and asked her daughter to send someone older from her family. As soon as the LHW came at the door, the man opened fire on her and escaped.

It may be mentioned here that an attempt had also been made on the lady health worker's life on July 14. A motorcyclist had shot and injured her at a bus stop on Girja Road, where she was waiting for a van to reach her basic health unit in Fatehjang.

At that time she had been serving as the polio team in-charge.

The victim's son, Al-Khumash Ali, 18, said as soon as his mother went to the door, the man standing outside shot her.

He said he shifted his mother to District Headquarters Hospital where she died.

SI Yasir Rabbani told Dawn that the dear departed did not have any enmity.

He further said the murder of the LHW could not be linked with the polio campaign because there was no drive going on in Fatehjang area.

The officer said the woman had been attacked earlier but at that time, she did not cooperate with police investigation.

Iraq
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi killed by US airstrikes??
Definite 48 hour rule unless we receive a severed head. Death pic may have been photoshopped. For the record, the Pentagon sez it didn't get him.
(IraqiNews.com) Thousands of social media users are distributing an unverified photo which claims to show the body of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi after he was purportedly killed by US air strikes after three senior members of ISIS, including an aide to al-Baghdadi were also killed by US air strikes. The death of the three senior members and aide to al-Baghdadi were confirmed by a senior Iraqi security official when interviewed by NBC News on Thursday.

The strike on the ISIS stronghold of Mosul killed Abu Hajar Al-Sufi, an aide to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as well as an explosives operative and the military leader of nearby Tal Afar, the source said on condition of anonymity. Al Arabiya cited the Iraqi Defense Ministry saying Baghdadi's aide had been killed.

Pentagon Spokesman Col. Steve Warren could not confirm the deaths and said ISIS leaders had not been targeted. But he added that if ISIS leaders were embedded “inside troop formations they are likely to be killed.” The U.S. has been carrying out airstrikes across north Iraq after the brutal terrorists of ISIS gained ground in a murderous sweep in June.

A number of news outlets and websites have published the unverified photo and news about the death of al-Baghdadi by US airstrikes. IraqiNews.com has been unable to verify the photo and claim that al-Baghdadi was killed.

Kurdish forces backed by American warplanes made significant advances against Islamic State fighters in Iraq's Mosul province on Friday, CNN reported, while US President Barack Obama

declared that a new NATO coalition will be able to mount a sustained effort to push back the myrmidons.

According to the report, Kurdish fighters, known as the Peshmerga, recaptured several villages that were seized by ISIS over the past summer, as well as a plain that overlooks Mosul, Iraq's second largest city that is currently under the control of the extreme Islamist group.

"It is a duty of everybody who loves democracy and freedom and human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
to struggle against the terrorists," CNN quoted Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Rowsch Shaways, a Kurd, as saying.

In recent weeks, the US conducted 131 air strikes against Islamic State targets and has sent military advisers to help Iraq battle ISIS.

So far, US Arclight airstrikes in Iraq have been largely limited to helping Kurdish forces and protecting refugees. Jordanian crisis management cell
Meanwhile,
...back at the fist fight, Jake ducked another roundhouse, then parried with his left, then with his right, finally with his chin...
a senior Jordanian government official told the Al-Hayat newspaper on Saturday that the country would establish a crisis management cell that will attempt to deal with the possible threat ISIS could pose to Jordan.

The official said that the Council of Ministers, headed by King Abdullah, selected Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour to head the group, which will be composed of representatives from all political and security institutions in the country.

According to the minister, the cell is supposed to "operate in efforts to improve and reformulate strategies to combat terrorism. Plans will be laid out, offering methods of dealing with bad boy elements and combating them in the political, security, social and ideological arenas."

He added that the "increasing influence of the jihadist factions in the region is the driving force behind the establishment of the cell. We will use all measures in our power to monitor the bad boy factions and protect us from their bad boy ideologies."

The paper reported that the idea for the establishment of the cell came after security reports surfaced showing that the number of Jordanian jihadists has grown from 1,200 to 7,000 in the past two years, including 2,500 who are fighting in Syria.

According to the paper, Jordanian police forces incarcerated
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
100 Jordanians who expressed support for the Islamic State group. Jordanian government front man Mohammed al-Momani told the newspaper that "there are ongoing contacts between Jordan and other countries in an attempt to tackle the regional challenges, particularly those posed by the terrorist organizations."

NATO allies take on ISIS threat
With the Islamic State turbans spreading across eastern Syria and northern and western Iraq, President Barack Obama noted on Friday that the moderate Syrian rebels fighting both the group and the government of Bashir al-Assad are "outgunned and outmanned." In addition to the action pledged by fellow NATO leaders, he pressed Arab allies to reject the "nihilism" projected by the group.

The new NATO coalition will be able to mount a sustained effort to push back the myrmidons, Obama said. The US secretaries of State and Defense, meeting with their counterparts at the international gathering, insisted the Western nations build a plan by the time the UN General Assembly meets this month.

"I did not get any resistance or pushback to the basic notion that we have a critical role to play in rolling back this savage organization that is causing so much chaos in the region and is harming so many people and poses a long-term threat to the safety and security of NATO members," Obama said at the summit conclusion.

"So there's great conviction that we have to act, as part of the international community, to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL, and that was extremely encouraging."

Laying out a strategy for Iraq, Obama hinted at a broader military campaign, likening it to the way US forces pushed back al-Qaeda along Pakistain's border with Afghanistan, taking out the group's leadership, shrinking its territory and pounding at its myrmidon followers. To do that, the US used persistent Arclight airstrikes, usually by CIA drones.

35 Bodies Found in Iraq Town Retaken from Jihadists
[AnNahar] Iraqi Kurdish forces and Shiite gunnies discovered mass graves containing 35 bodies after retaking the town of Sulaiman Bek from jihadists, an officer and a doctor said on Friday.

It was not clear when the shooting deaths took place, as the town north of Baghdad has fallen from government control several times this year, most recently from June until earlier this week.

The 35 bodies were taken under guard in ambulances to the morgue in Kirkuk,

Attempted bombing foiled by Philippine troops
Philippine troops yesterday foiled a bombing attempt by Abu Sayyaf militants after they recovered a powerful improvised explosive device planted by the rebels in a desnsely populated village in Lamitan City, Basilan.

Captain Maria Rowena Muyuela, spokesperson for the Western Mindanao Command, said soldiers detonated the bomb after it was discovered in a highly traveled area. Muyuela said the rebels filled a cooking gas cylinder with ammonium nitrate and iron nails and wired the explosives to blasting caps. They identified Erik Ajibon as behind the foiled bombing attempt.

Syrian warplanes hit Islamic State-run bakery, training camp
[REUTERS] Syrian warplanes bombed a bakery run by Islamic State in the city of Raqqa, killing 25 people, in air raids on Saturday that also hit a major training camp used by the holy warrior group for a second day running, a group monitoring the war said.

The air strikes on Raqqa, Islamic State's stronghold some 400 km (250 miles) northeast of Damascus, also hit a building used as an Islamic court, and another of the group's offices, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Rami Abdulrahman, founder of the Observatory, said the bakery was run by the holy warrior group. The Observatory, which gathers information from all sides in the civil war, said the dead included 12 civilians and nine Islamic State activists.

Islamic State, which has seized wide expanses of territory in Iraq and Syria, drove the last Syrian government forces out of Raqqa province in late August when its fighters seized an air base, capturing and later executing scores of Syrian soldiers.

In a headline bar, Syrian state TV said army units had destroyed weapons and ammunition stores used by Islamic State fighters in Raqqa, "eliminating a number of them and wounding others in a number of areas". It gave no further details.

Raqqa is the main Syrian foothold of Islamic State. The group has been overseeing most aspects of civilian life in the city including bakeries, banks, schools, courts and mosques.

[REUTERS] Islamic State murderous Moslems have beheaded a captive Lebanese soldier, images published on social media showed on Saturday, the second Lebanese soldier to be killed in captivity by the group since it raided a Lebanese border town last month.

The men were among a group of 19 soldiers missing since the attack on Arsal by murderous Moslems including fighters affiliated with Islamic State. The group routinely beheads people it deems its enemies and recently killed two American journalists that way.

A caption posted with the images on a Twitter account used to publish Islamic State statements named the soldier as Abbas Medlij, identifying him as a Shi'ite Moslem.

15 Jihadists among 31 Dead in Regime Raids on Syria's Raqa
[AnNahar] Syrian air strikes in the jihadist-held northern city of Raqa
...the established capitol of the Islamic State's caliphate...
on Saturday killed 31 people, including 15 Islamic State (IS) members, a monitoring group said.
Good. If y'all can do a Dresden on the place, even better.
"Regime warplanes carried out eight air strikes targeting Raqa and its surroundings," said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman.

At least 15 jihadists and 16 civilians including three children and two women were killed. Eight of the civilian dead were from a single family.

The strikes come amid a stepped-up campaign by Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
's regime targeting IS positions in north and east Syria.

Activists say such air raids often kill many civilians as well as jihadists.
War is hell, especially for human shields.
Similar strikes on Tuesday in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor killed 16 people including 10 children.

Among the targets on Saturday were a building housing an IS Islamic court and a training camp.

Seventeen of the dead were killed when a bakery was hit.

The Islamic State group first emerged in Syria's war in late spring 2013, when it was named the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant
... the current version of al-Qaeda in Iraq, just as blood-thirsty and well-beloved as the original...
(ISIL).

Its horrific abuses, including near-daily public executions, have made it widely feared in areas it controls, but activists say people stay silent for fear of reprisals.

In a separate development, the Observatory said the number of people killed in a Friday air strike targeting a Syrian rebel-held area of Aleppo city in the north has risen to 15.

Insurgent areas of Aleppo have come under massive aerial bombardment since December, killing hundreds of people and prompting tens of thousands to flee to safety.

The regime has kept up its offensive despite a U.N. Security Council resolution in February condemning such strikes.

And east of Damascus, regime troops backed by Lebanese Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
fighters made another gain against rebel forces by taking the village of Hteitet Jarash, the Observatory said.

The village is near Mleiha, a former rebel bastion that fell to government control in mid-August after several months of fierce fighting and near-daily bombardment.

Hteitet Jarash is in the Eastern Ghouta area, which the army has besieged for more than a year.

Syrian Strikes On Islamic State Stronghold Kill 13
[Ynet] Activists say Syrian Arclight airstrikes targeting a stronghold of the Islamic State krazed killer group have killed at least 13 civilians.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the eight strikes targeted the northeastern city of Raqqa, which is run by the bad boy group. The Observatory said at least one strike hit a bakery on a busy street, and that the corpse count was likely to rise. The Observatory obtains its information from a network of activists on the ground.

IS Executes Syrian Youth after Anti-Jihadist Protest
[AnNahar] Islamic State fighters executed a youth in a Syrian town Friday, after hundreds of residents demanded they leave following regime air strikes that targeted the jihadists but killed eight civilians, a monitor said.

Residents of Ashara, in the mostly IS-controlled eastern province of Deir Ezzor, protested in front of an IS headquarters Thursday evening, hours after air strikes killed two children, five women and a man, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman said.

In response, IS gunnies opened fire and seized several young men, the Observatory and an activist said.

The air strikes were part of a stepped-up campaign launched in recent weeks by Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Lord of the Baath...
's regime against IS-held towns and villages in eastern and northern Syria.

They resumed Friday, with four raids targeting jihadist positions in Deir Ezzor city, the Observatory said, adding that there was no confirmation of any casualties.

Activists have frequently condemned the attacks for killing not only jihadists, but also civilians.

"Thursday evening's protest (in Ashara) began as a funeral for the victims, attended by nearly 300 people," said Rayan al-Furati, an activist from Deir Ezzor.

"Then the mourners began to protest, demanding that the IS leave the town of Ashara," Furati told Agence La Belle France-Presse via the Internet.

The Observatory said that, on Friday, the IS publicly executed and crucified a young man identified as Ali Khalaf, accusing him of "heresy and apostasy."

"Though he had nothing to do with yesterday's protests, they executed him publicly in Ashara in order to terrorize people into not taking any kind of action against the IS," Abdel Rahman said.

Furati said the jihadists, whose abuses and radical interpretation of Sunni Islam have been widely documented, are vastly unpopular. But, he added, people living under their control are deeply fearful of taking action against them.

"It's like living in a prison," Furati said, using a pseudonym to protect his family from retaliation.

"Not a single day passes without an execution somewhere in Deir Ezzor province."

Elsewhere, the Observatory said loud kabooms were heard near an IS base in Raqa city, which the jihadists refer to as their "capital," following air strikes in the area.

The Syrian conflict began as a peaceful movement demanding Assad's ouster, but then morphed into a brutal civil war after a massive regime crackdown against dissent.

In June, IS declared an Islamic "caliphate" straddling the territory it controls in Syria and Iraq.
