Explosion Cuts Fiber Optic Cable in Nangarhar
[Tolo News] Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT) officials on Sunday reported that a land mine kaboom in Batikot district of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province destroyed a fiber optic cable passing from Torkham to Pakistain.

The news comes as Internet connectivity in the capital has seen continuous problems in recent months, with repeated service blackouts on account of the destruction of fiber optic cables passing to Pakistain. Many have pointed blame at the government for not improving the country's IT infrastructure, or for at least not doing enough to protect what already exists.

Over the past five months, fiber optic cables in eastern Nangarhar province have been damaged no less than five times. MoCIT officials have accused foreign elements of targeting the cable, suggesting that there are some in Pakistain that wish to stymie Afghanistan's development process by limiting its people's access to the Internet.

"With consideration of internet development in the country, perhaps foreign circles are trying to undermine the development process and for this purpose they resort to such acts," MoCIT front man Nusrat Rahimi said on Sunday.

Internet outages create problems for people from all walks of life, including some critical members of Afghan society, such as students, the business community, aviation companies, the banking sector and hospitals.

Internet café owners, whose entire business model depends on connectivity, have been some of the most vocal critics of the government's handling of the situation. "Issues exist, and we cant use it properly despite paying money, so the majority of customers are unsatisfied," one cafe owner named Zekirya told TOLOnews. "The government must take action and resolve the problem."

Former Jihadi Leader Among 7 Dead in Samangan Clash
[Tolo News] A former jihadi leader and four of his fighters died in a clash with Taliban gunnies in northern Samangan province on Sunday, local officials said.
If you're dead then you're "former."
Three gunnies also died in the battle.

The incident took place after a number of gunnies attacked Damullah Karim, the former jihadi leader's house, a front man for Provincial Governor, Mohammad Sediq Azizi said on Monday.

"In the clash, Qari Damullah Shamshad, Taliban district governor in Roy Do Aab, Mawlawi Bozorg, Taliban district governor for Dara-e-Sof and Nematullah, Taliban capo in Dara-e-Sof were also killed in the clash with the jihadi leader," he said.

The reason behind the clash is not yet clear, said officials.

The incident happened in Zeraki village -- which was the scene of last month's clash between police and gunnies -- where five local coppers died.

The Taliban has yet to comment on the incident.

Mullah Omar's Son Yaqub Reportedly Killed: Official
[Tolo News] Afghanistan's first deputy speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) Zahir Qadir on Monday said that Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
's son, Mullah Yaqub, was killed last week in Quetta, Pakistain.

According to him, Mullah Yaqub, who had hoped to succeed his father as leader of the Taliban, was killed while at a meeting in the city four days ago (Thursday).

"We were told about Mullah Omar's death two years back and now his son Mullah Yaqub who was 21 or 22 years old was trying to be appointed as his father's successor. But Mullah Mansour also tried to become leader of the Taliban, therefore it is said that he was killed some days back," Qadir told TOLOnews.

"The opposing Taliban and Pakistain had a hand in killing Mullah Yaqub. The reality will be made clear soon," he said.

In addition to this, Afghan security sources told TOLOnews late Monday that in the past 24 hours three festivities between Taliban factions have been reported in Quetta city in Pakistain.

One attack was on a convoy transporting newly appointed Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour's deputy, the source said.

A source said that Maulvi Haibatullah Noorzai, Mullah Mansour's deputy, narrowly escaped an liquidation attempt on his convoy by unidentified gunnies in Pakistain's Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province.

The source wishing anonymity said that former Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
governor and Taliban head of the central committee, Maulvi Abdul Kabir, was also in the convoy.

Unidentified persons mounted the attack on the convoy on the outskirts of Chaman area in Pakistain, the source said, adding Haibatullah and Maulvi Abdul Kabir escaped unhurt but three other Taliban leaders were maimed in the attack.

The top Taliban leaders were in the locality to garner support for Mullah Mansour from local holy mans when they came under attack.

Chaman is the hometown of Mullah Abdul Razzaq who has opposed Mullah Mansour's nomination as Taliban leader. Mullah Mansour has been appointed as Mullah Omar's successor.

Two other attacks also occurred between Taliban factions in the past two days. Both were carried out on houses in Quetta city but it is unclear who the residents are or whether any casualties were reported.

The news of Mullah Yaqub's death however comes just days after he and his uncle Abdul Manan, Mullah Omar's younger brother, were reportedly among more than a dozen Taliban figures who walked out of Wednesday's leadership meeting held in Quetta.

It was at this meeting that the Taliban named Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour as the group's new leader.

Rooters reported that the display of dissent within the group's secretive core is the clearest sign yet of the challenge Mansour faces in uniting a group already split over whether to pursue peace talks with the Afghan government and facing a new, external threat, Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
.

Rifts in the Taliban leadership could widen after confirmation of the death of Mullah Omar.

Mansour, Mullah Omar's longtime deputy who has been effectively in charge for years, favors talks to bring an end to more than 13 years of war. He recently sent a delegation to inaugural meetings with Afghan officials hosted by Pakistain, hailed as a breakthrough.

But Mansour, 50, has powerful rivals within the Taliban who oppose negotiations and have been pushing for Mullah Omar's son Yaqub to take over the movement.

"Actually, it wasn't a Taliban Leadership Council meeting. Mansour had invited only members of his group to pave the way for his election," said one of the sources, a senior member of Taliban in Quetta. "And when Yaqub and Manan noticed this, they left the meeting."

Among those opposing Mansour's leadership are Mullah Mohammad Rasool and Mullah Hasan Rahmani, two influential Taliban figures with their own power bases who back Yaqub.

province.

The incident took place in 'Borya Baf' area of Pashton Zarghon District today.

A security official who did not want to be named said that the kaboom also left two other soldiers from the Afghan National Army maimed.

Initial investigation reveals that the landmine exploded with a remote control from a larger distance.

Talibs plant landmines on public transportation ways that not only cause casualties to security forces but also to civilians.

Four civilians including three women and a man lost lives to a landmine kaboom in Ghazni province today.

They were driving in a Rickshaw that ran over a landmine in Andar District of Ghazni province.

Afghan forces attack Taliban gathering mourning Mullah Omar's death
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan cops attacked a gathering of the Talibs mourning the death of Mullah Mohammad Omar, the group's supreme leader who was confirmed dead last week.

According to the local government officials, the gathering was organized on Tuesday in the outskirts of Ghazni city.

Deputy provincial governor Mohammad Ali Ahmadi said the Afghan forces prevented Taliban to organized a funeral ceremony and mourn Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
's death.

He said at least five Taliban snuffies were killed during the raid and a number of others were maimed.

According to Ahmadi, the Talibs were looking to organize a large gathering where around 300,000 people were expected to participate to mourn Mullah Omar's death.

This comes as a local security official said earlier today that the Talibs are forcing local residents to to have funeral for Mullah Omar and prepare food for the mourners.

The sources further added that the commuters are also forced to attend the funeral prayers for Mullah Omar in the local mosque.

Taliban formally confirmed the death of Mullah Omar by issuing a statement last week calling for three days of prayers.

Reports regarding the death of Mullah Omar emerged last week suggesting Pakistain have confirmed the death of Mullah Mohammad Omar to the Afghan government.

Mullah Omar's death was first confirmed by a splinter group of the Taliban -- Afghanistan Islamic Movement Fidai Mahaz, which claimed that he was assassinated Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor and Gull Agha.

The group's front man Qari Hamza said Mullah Omar was killed two years ago in the same month of July.

Hamza claimed that the group has evidences to prove their claims that Mullah Omar was killed by Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor and Gull Agha.

Mr. Gusau said during the operation, 178 people -- 101 children, 67 women and 10 men- were rescued.

"Also, three Boko Haram flags were recovered while five motor cycles were burnt by the troops," Mr. Gusau said.

Arabia
Rebel-held Yemen base captured, coalition forces enter Aden
Forces loyal to Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi recaptured Al Anad military and air base on Monday after heavy fighting in which dozens of Houthi fighters were killed or captured.
Definite 48 hour rule -- not to see if it's true but to give the Houthis a chance to take it back...
The commander of the operation, Brigadier-General Fadel Hassan, said his forces were combing the sprawling base north of the southern port city of Aden searching for any Houthi fighters who may have remained behind after hundreds fled.

Hundreds of troops and militia equipped with tanks and armoured vehicles supplied by the coalition deployed around the base before Monday's attack. Another source said Saudi-led warplanes were providing air cover for the loyalist forces, who launched the offensive from a mountainous region west of Al Anad.

The airbase, in the southern province of Lahj, housed US troops overseeing a drone war against Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) until shortly before Iran-backed Houthi rebels overran it in March.

The insurgent advance, which took them all the way into the port city of Aden, forced President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi and his internationally recognised government into exile in Saudi Arabia. But Aden has now been recaptured and Hadi loyalists are in full control there.

Hundreds of Gulf Arab troops from the coalition entered Aden on Sunday, using tanks and other armour "to help secure" it, a military source said. The Saudi-owned AlHayat newspaper said 1,500 troops, most of them from the UAE, had reached Aden.

Recapture of Al Anad would help bolster security in Aden, whose liberation Hadi's government announced in mid-July. It would also open the way to loyalist forces to push further north against the Houthis, who have enjoyed strong support on the ground from fighters close to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Military sources spoke of further progress by loyalist forces who they said had recaptured Houta, the provincial capital of Lahj, and seized Al Ribat highway north of Aden.

Aden - Hadi's last refuge before the rebel advance forced him into exile in neighbouring Saudi Arabia - has been devastated by four months of coalition air strikes and fighting on the ground. The city is badly scarred, with gutted buildings and broken sewerage pipes, and is deprived of water and electricity supplies.

The airport reopened on July 22, allowing planes to land with relief supplies from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

Pro-Hadi fighters, Houthis battle over Yemen's largest military base
[REUTERS] Fighters loyal to Yemen's deposed president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, backed by Saudi-led air strikes, battled Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
forces inside the country's largest military base on Monday, pro-Hadi commanders said.

They said the recapture of the al-Anad base would open the road north to the city of Taiz, where Iranian-allied Houthi militias have been locked in combat with local fighters siding with Hadi.

It would also mark another significant gain for the Hadi loyalists after they drove the Houthis from the southern port of Aden in July following months on the defensive.

Hadi remains in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, to where he fled in March as the Houthis closed in on his refuge in Aden. The Houthis broke out of their northern strongholds and seized control of the capital Sanaa in September, plunging Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
into another bout of conflict.

Pro-Hadi fighters reached by telephone said heavy festivities were taking place on Monday on the western side of the military airport inside the al-Anad base, which covers an area of 40 square km (15 square miles).

A pro-Hadi television station said they had captured the military airport. Dozens of Houthi fighters were killed and hundreds were fleeing, it said.

The Houthi-run Saba news agency said Saudi-led air raids had repeatedly struck the military base.

The loyalist commanders said their fighters were making steady advances in the south and west of the base and expected to win full control soon.

Hezbollah, Syrian Forces Advance in Zabadani, Lay Strong Siege on Terrorists
[ALMANAR.LB] The Syrian army and Hezbollah forces cut the defense lines of the forces of Evil in the town of Zabadani in Southern Syria on Sunday, surrounding them in a small area of two square kilometers.

The national military and the Lebanese Resistance seized control on Sunday afternoon over Al-Hikma neighborhood that is linked to the Jerjaniya street east of Zabadani, and inflicted the takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
groups heavy losses, including large number of killed and maimed operatives.

The army units and Hezbollah forces, meantime, purged the forces of Evil from al-Shalah region, and pounded the terrorists' positions in al-Nabu and al-Mahta regions. They also restored the Zayzoun thermal plant and the villages of Ziyadiya, Zayzoun and Marj al-Zohour located between Idleb and Hama countryside.

Moreover, the Syrian forces established control over the south-western countryside of Idleb province, following heavy operations that forced the "Al-Fath army" to flee the area, leaving weapons and ammunition in the place.

According to Fars News Agency, the forces of Evil of the Al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
are now under a full siege in the Syrian city.

On Tuesday, the Syrian army and Hezbollah purged forces of Evil from the Southern parts of Zabadani.

The Syrian and Hezbollah fighters pushed the takfiri operatives back from areas between two main squares in Southern Zabadani.

Regime tightens siege on Damascus suburbs despite truce
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] The Syrian regime has returned the hard siege on many towns of the of the countryside of Damascus after truce agreement with them by closing all the barriers to Tal, Qodsaya, Alhameh and Moadameyat al-Sham.

According to regime story, those procedures came as a result of abducting and disappearing of many of its soldiers, which is considered a breach to the truce agreement, while activists claimed that regime was the side had breached the truce first.
In the town of Tal where almost a million displaced people live there besides its own people, the main humanitarian barrier had been closed for 7 days after killing a soldier at Tal-Mnin road. The regime only let employees and students to pass the barrier without letting in any food or fuel.

Moreover, the Syrian regime has closed the main road to Qodsaya and Alhameh since 21st July and has closed the road between Qodsaya and its suburb after the disappearance of a soldier and accused the rebels of abducting him, while no revolutionary group announced its responsibility for that act.

Sources mentioned that reconciliation committee has met many officers of the regime to reopen the barrier.

The siege in Moadamiyeh Alsham had increased since Friday after claims of losing a soldier in the town. But the manager of the media office in Moadameyeh "Mohammed Noor" explained that soldier was called Samara and has defected and joined the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
, he had done a truce with the regime earlier, but in the end he was caught during his attempt to escape from the town with some men to sort out their situation, and the regime now demanding releasing him to open the barrier in return.

Zaman al-Wasl correspondent reported deterioration of the living and medical conditions of people in the four towns where no food or products are available in markets and bakeries had stopped as no flour of fuel are available.

The four town are congested with displaced people from around the country beside its own people. It is estimated that almost a million live in Tal and half a million in Qodsaya and Alhameh, while 40 thousand in Moadameyeh Alsham.
