Afghanistan
Updated: 30 Afghan Forces Killed in Taliban Attacks, Says Source
[ToloNews] At least nineteen--and as many as 30--Afghan cops members were killed in separate Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
attacks in northern Sar-e-Pul
...a city and eponymous province in northern Afghanistan, population about 500,000. Demographically it is majority Tadjik and Uzbek. There are small Pashtun, Arab, and Hazara communities, of which the Hazaras mostly don't bother anyone...
and central Pashtun-infested Logar provinces on Tuesday night, local officials said on Wednesday.

Eleven Afghan cops were killed in festivities with the Taliban in Sar-e-Pul province in Sozma Qala and Sancharak districts when the Taliban attacked security checkpoints, said Zabihullah Amani, a front man for the provincial governor. "The festivities continued for three hours and most of the fighters came from Jawzjan province," Amani said.

The Taliban also took casualties but "we don’t have the exact number," he added.

A security source told TOLOnews on Wednesday afternoon that 19 police had been killed at the Mes Aynak Copper Mine in Pashtun-infested Logar province on Tuesday night, but earlier, Qadir Mufti, a front man for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, said eight security forces had been killed.

And in Kandahar, "at least 31 Taliban'"were killed in an attack on security checkpoints in Zherai, Meyanshen and Spin Boldak districts of Kandahar province on Tuesday night, Kandahar police confirmed on Wednesday, adding that "seven Afghan forces were also maimed in the attacks."

The Taliban has grabbed credit for Sar-e-Pul but has not commented on the attacks in Kandahar and Pashtun-infested Logar.

Afghan Forces Launch Operation in Taliban-Held District in Logar
[ToloNews] Government forces in Pashtun-infested Logar province have been conducting operations for the past several days to secure parts of Charkh district.

Charkh district is known as the largest area under Taliban
...Arabic for students...
influence in Pashtun-infested Logar.

Charkh district governor Khalilullah Kamal admits that due to the Taliban's extensive presence in the district, security is not fully secured there, and the government's work is not going well. But the center of Charkh district is in the hands of the government.

"Unfortunately, we have not been able to secure the districts and form a good government, but we are moving forward with addressing the problems of the people," added Kamal.

The operation of the government forces in Charkh district started on Saturday. The operation involves the air force, and the Taliban have suffered casualties in Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s, according to military commanders in Pashtun-infested Logar.

Military commanders in Pashtun-infested Logar say they launched the operation in Charkh district after a Taliban attack on a checkpoint in the district in which thirteen government forces were killed and nine others were kidnapped by the Taliban.

"There are foreigners among the Taliban including Chechens, Arabs and Paks and they are also destroyed," said Abdul Matin Hassankhail, an army commander in Pashtun-infested Logar province.

It has been nearly two months since the US-Taliban aggreement was signed, but the government and the Taliban forces remain in conflict, and the Taliban have recently made claims that US forces have also made attacks during this period.

"They (Taliban) used to say that we are fighting foreign forces and that the security forces are defending them, but it became clear today that they had signed an agreement with the coalition forces," said Raham Khuda Mukhlis, Pashtun-infested Logar police chief.

Violence declined for a week before the peace agreement was signed in Afghanistan, and it was expected that this would continue after the agreement, but attacks have increased.

11 security personnel lost their lives, 19 wounded in Taliban attacks in Sar-e Pul
[KhaamaPress] The Talibs launched attacks in two districts of northern Sar-e Pul province which claimed the lives of at least 11 security personnel.

Provincial governor’s spokesperson Zabiullah Amani confirmed the incident and said the Talibs attacked the security posts in Sancharak and Suzma Qala districts on Tuesday night.

According to Amani, festivities between Talibs and security personnel continued until early hours of Wednesday morning during which at least 19 security personnel also sustained injuries.

He also added that the majority of the security personnel killed or maimed during the festivities, were members of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke...
Amani said the Talibs also sustained casualties during the festivities but did not elaborate further regarding the exact number.

The Taliban

group has not commented in this regard so far.

Young Man Killed After Trial in Illegitimate Court
[ToloNews] Members of a family from the province of Ghor claim a young man of their family, Noor Gull, has been killed following sentencing by an illegitimate court.
Might makes right.
According to the family, Noor Gull was shot in an area under the control of the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
after he was caught by the relatives of a girl he was running away with.

His mother, along with other members of the family, visited the governer’s office and claimed that she would kill herself if justice was not served and if the culprits are not punished.

Mohammad Amin Ahmadzai, the police chief in Ghor, stated that the girl accompanying Noor Gull managed to take refuge in a safehouse for women. He says that the police have arrested two people connected to the case.

"The girl’s relatives turned Noor Gull in to the Taliban, and he was whipped 80 times, at a location under their control," Ahmadzai stated.

After the whipping, Noor Gull was shot in an area under the control of the Taliban. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
it was not confirmed who shot the victim after he was whipped.

This is the fourth case in the past few months of unlawful trials reported in Ghor province.

Members of the Ghor provincial council, and women’s affairs activists, say that besides terrorist organizations, illegal weapons are another cause of illegal court cases.

Angela Sharifi, a legal rights activist for women, says, "Women have been-- and are--whipped for several reasons, and this is a big concern for us."

The women’s affairs group in Ghor stated that such incidents have been occurring in areas under the control of the Taliban, and the government is unable to take action against it.

Council, Haqqani Network and Lashkar-e Taiba, was arrested during an operation in Afghanistan.

The National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
in a statement said the NDS forces arrested the ISIS leader, Muneeb, during a raid in Afghanistan.

Without disclosing further information, NDS said Muneeb having aliases of Abu Bilal, Abu Halal adn Abu Humam, is originally a resident of Pakistain.

The statement further added that Muneeb is a key member of the central Council of ISIS Khorasan who was also in charge of shadow court, coordination and contact with the other groups including Lashkar-e Taiab, Haqqani Network, Sepa-e Sahaba, Jamaat-e Ulema-e Islam and the Peshawar Council of Taliban.

The National Directorate of Security also added that the detained ISIS leader has confessed that he had close cooperation with Lashkar-e Taiba and the Haqqani terrorist network.

This comes as the Afghan forces arrested the leader of ISIS Khorasan during a similar raid in Afghanistan.

Africa Subsaharan
Islamist insurgents kill 52 villagers in Mozambique
[Dhaka Tribune] About 52 villagers in Mozambique's troubled northernmost province were killed by Islamist snuffies on April 7 after they refused to be recruited to their ranks, police said on Tuesday.

"The young men were about to be recruited but they resisted, which provoked the ire of the bandidos that killed the 52 indiscriminately," police front man Orlando Modumane said.

The killings took place in the village of Xitaxi in Muidumbe district in the province of Cabo Delgado, home to multi-billion-dollar gas projects led by oil majors such as Total.

Last Wednesday, national police commander Bernardino Rafael said no parts of the troubled province were under the control of bad boys. His comments came after an increase in the frequency of attacks in the province.

Security analysts say that in some cases snuffies have occupied parts of towns, villages or government buildings and hoisted a black-and-white flag.
A late update from Deutsche Welle at 11:55 p.m. EDT, interesting but not worth a separate article tomorrow:
Locals told French news agency AFP that the militants tore local schools, hospitals, and a bank upside down, as well as setting fire to bridge-building equipment.

In the two years since the insurgency began in Mozambique's isolated northern regions, more than 200,000 people have had to flee their homes and more than 900 people have been killed, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED). The extremists have mostly targeted remote villages, though they have stepped up their attacks in recent months, including briefly occupying the district headquarters of Mocimboa da Praia in March and burning government buildings, including an army barracks.

INSURGENTS SEEK 'CALIPHATE'
The gunmen, who initially always hid behind masks, have begun to remove their face coverings during attacks and have aligned themselves more clearly with Islamist fundamentalists. At least twice they have been spotted flying the black and white "Islamic State" flag after committing acts of terror and they have publicly declared their intention to turn Mozambique into a "caliphate."

The insurgency does not appear to have a name universally agreed upon by all of its offshoots, though some attacks last year were claimed by a group calling itself "Islamic State Central Africa Province." Locals also refer to it as al-Shabaab, though there is no evidence of a link between the fighting in Mozambique and the terrorist group based in Somalia.

Iraq
Four brigades split from Iraq's PMF in sign of internal rift
[The National] Four Iraqi militia brigades have reportedly split from the Popular Mobilisation Forces and are now under the directives of the office of the outgoing Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi.

The killing of the PMF's chief of staff Abu Mahdi Al Muhandis in January by the US deprived the forces of their leading policymaker and challenged the standing of Iran-backed militias in Iraq.

In a letter addressed to Faleh Al Fayyad, the new head of the PMF - also known as Hashed Al Shaabi - Mr Abdul Mahdi said "their operations and administration" will now be directed by his office.

"The details will be disclosed at a later time," the letter said.

The brigades who have split are the Imam Ali, Ali Al Akbar, Abbas and Ansar Al Marjaiya, all loyal to the top Shiite holy man Ayatollah Ali Al Sistani.

Mr Abdel Mahdi is no longer in office, with former head of intelligence Mustafa Al Kadhimi having taken up the role as Prime Minister designate earlier this month. He is still considered the last holder of the office, however, until a new leader can be decided on by parliament.

The outgoing prime minister has come under pressure from Washington to curb Iran's influence in Iraq, particularly after several recent unclaimed attacks against US interests in the country.

The militias, which helped Iraqi and US-led international coalition forces drive out ISIS, have broad influence in Iraqi politics.

However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
Iraq declared victory against the holy warriors in 2017. The decision is a direct message to the PMF that Mr Al Sistani's religious call to form a coherent fighting force against ISIS has come to an end, an Iraqi parliamentarian told The National.

"The Marjaiya [brigade] and the outgoing prime minister made this decision, that in itself sends a strong message," he said.

An electoral alliance made up of militia leaders and fighters came second in a 2018 parliamentary election and went on alongside populist holy man Moqtada Al Sadr, whose political group came first, to jointly nominate Mr Abdul Mahdi as premier.

Mr Abdul Mahdi issued a decree ordering the militias to come to heel by the end of July 2019, or be deemed "illegitimate".

His decree forces groups that make up the PMF to choose between political and paramilitary activity.

Three Palestinian men in a Hamas terror cell were arrested last month for plotting to blow up Teddy Stadium, Jerusalem's soccer arena which seats more than 30,000 people
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]
Update from An Nahar at 1:10 p.m EDT:
Israel's Shin Bet said Wednesday it had arrested three Paleostinians accused of being part of a "Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, terrorist infrastructure" plotting kabooms on Israeli targets in the occupied West Bank.

The shadowy security agency said in a statement that a joint operation with army and police led to the arrest last month of Omar Eid, 24, a resident of the West Bank village of Deir Jirir.

Also arrested at the time were Ahmed Sajidiyya, 27, of the Qalandia Paleostinian refugee camp and Muhammad Hamad, 26, from nearby Kufr Aqab, both located in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem.

Shin Bet said the men planned to make a bomb from plans downloaded from the internet and bought chemicals, nails and other metallic objects for that purpose.

They were arrested "before being able to assemble the bomb," it added.

The statement said the three first met at Birzeit University, near Ramallah, where they also came into contact with Abd al-Rahman Hamdan, "a senior activist" for the Islamist bad boy group Hamas on the campus, who funded their activities with tens of thousands of shekels (thousands of dollars/euros).

The statement also accused the men of past "attempts to carry out kabooms" against Israeli soldiers and said they were planning future missions with remotely-detonated bombs against Israeli traffic and army posts in the Ramallah area.

They had even weighed bombing a Jerusalem football stadium during a game but a reconnaissance visit by Eid left him daunted by the high security and the idea was dropped, it said.
