Woman stabs Chicago store worker 27 times after asking her to wear mask
[NYPOST] A woman became so enraged by a reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
retailer’s request she wear a mask that she stabbed a worker 27 times while her pal pinned the poor guy down, authorities said.

Jessica Hill, 21, and Jayla Hill, 18, refused to take the proper precautions and began arguing with the victim inside a shop in West Chicago at about 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the Chicago Police Department.
There is a City of West Chicago - this is a confusing bit in the report. No Chicago Police there and Hospitals are all wrong.
The argument turned physical when Jayla Hill punched the man in the chest, police spokeswoman Karie James told the New York Post on Tuesday.

Jayla Hill grabbed the victim by the hair and held him to the ground while Jessica Hill perforated him with a knife more than two-dozen times, she said.

Police said the victim was stabbed in the back, neck, and arms.

The 32-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital at death's door, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Both women were treated for minor lacerations at St. Anthony Hospital.

They have been charged with attempted murder and were denied bail during a court appearance Tuesday.

#4  Pompeo comments

An interesting article, Punky Clunk8901.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday the Chinese Communist Party had brought lawlessness to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, as the top U.S. diplomat kept up tough criticism of China during a trip to Asia.

The five-day tour is aimed at girding allies against China’s increasing political and military inroads in the region in recent years.

Pompeo said on Wednesday that Washington would open an embassy in the Maldivian capital of Male for the first time, in an attempt to counterbalance Chinese presence there.

China has invested billions of dollars in projects in Sri Lanka and the Maldives as part of its Belt and Road Initiative of transport and energy links, a programme the United States believes is designed to trap smaller countries into debt.

In contrast to India, which is locked in a military stand-off with China and was the first stop on Pompeo’s trip, Sri Lanka is a close ally of Beijing.

“Sri Lanka is a neutral, non-aligned country, committed to peace,” Gunawardena said at the joint news briefing with Pompeo.

China may try to seize Taiwan's Dongsha islands during US election
[Twitter-Taiwan Military] China's 'Don’t say that we didn’t warn you' phrase used before start of previous wars

An expert on China warns that the communist regime may try to exploit chaos during the U.S. presidential election to seize Taiwan's Dongsha Islands ((東沙群島, Pratas Islands).

In an interview with Spy Talk, Charles W. "Chas" Freeman Jr., a retired diplomat who served in Taiwan and China, warned that Beijing may attempt to capture the Dongsha Islands, or Taiwan's other outer islands such as Matsu, Kinmen, and Penghu. Chas asserts that the move is being presaged by several warning signs that are similar to the prelude to China's military actions in the past.

Freeman claimed that China's goal in taking the islands would be to “give people in Taiwan a sense of the inevitability of defeat." He asserted that China could lay the groundwork for the assault by activating sappers to sabotage Taiwan's air bases and command its double agents to "defect in place."

He noted that China's state-run mouthpiece, the People's Daily, on Oct. 15 released a "Letter to Taiwan's Intelligence Organs" in which it urged Taiwan's spies "against supporting President Tsai Ing-wen’s resistance to unification with China." The letter included the words "Don’t say that we didn’t warn you," which according to China's state-operated tabloid the Global Times was originally used by the Qing Dynasty, "and has become a key phrase used by Chinese official media as the most severe warning previously issued before shots were fired in military operations."

The Global Times stated that the phrase was issued before the Sino-Indian War in 1962 and the Sino-Vietnamese War in 1979. Freeman added that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had used the same or similar phrases before storming Beijing in 1949 during the Chinese Civil War and before crossing the Yalu River in 1950 during the Korean War.

More recently, Beijing issued the same warning in November of last year to the U.S. for its support of Hong Kong pro-democracy protests. On June 30, China's rubber-stamp parliament, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, passed the draconian Hong Kong national security law.

Kimber Arms moving headquarters from New York to Troy, Alabama creating 366 Alabama jobs
[AL] Kimber Manufacturing is moving its corporate headquarters to Troy and will "aggressively hire" in all departments. The firearms manufacturer last week announced it is moving to a new facility it built last year on 80 acres with more than 225,000 square feet of space, with design engineering, product management and manufacturing space.

The company, formerly based in Yonkers, N.Y., pledged two years ago to open a $38 million production facility in Troy, creating 366 jobs over the next five years, which Gov. Kay Ivey announced in her 2018 State of the State address.

In an announcement, the company said Troy was chosen for, among several reasons, its proximity to engineering schools as well as pro-gun, pro-business support from the city of Troy and Alabama.

The company said it is seeking applicants across several categories, including CNC technicians, machinists, quality control specialists, lean technicians, design engineers, compliance analysts, customer service representatives, materials planners, maintenance technicians, finishing operators, and assembly technicians.

Interested applicants may apply here.

Pedi Gega, director of assembly and product finishing, said the campus has two indoor gun ranges, one outdoor range, and a design and prototype fabrication center.

"Every Kimber firearm is created with a unique blend of advanced precision technology and authentic human craftsmanship," Gega said.

Teacher accused of sodomising minor in Ahmadpur East
[DAILYTIMES.PK] A 10-year-old boy staying at a hostel was allegedly raped by a teacher in Bahawalpur district on Sunday.

According to police, the incident occurred in the suburb area of Ahmadpur East, where a teacher is accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a child at a hostel.

The police shifted the child to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) for medical examination, besides registering a case against the accused.

Incidents of sexual assault with minor boys have been reported in the country during the
1300 years
past weeks, besides action being launched by the authorities to curb such incidents. On October 14, the police claimed to round up a racket involved in raping underage boys and girls at gunpoint in Jhelum area of Punjab

According to the police, the students was raped allegedly by her classmate, Shahid, and three of his friends.

The accused also filmed the sexual assault, police added.

An official said the police have arrested Shahid after lodging a first information report (FIR) of the incident while the other suspects are on the run. Efforts are underway to arrest them as well, he assured.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, while taking note of the incident, sought a report in this regard from the Faisalabad regional police officer (RPO).

He directed the police to ensure all suspects are arrested and the victim gets justice.

COVID-19 gargle and rinse test could provide alternative to nasal swab
[JPost] - A researcher from the University of Arizona tried to create a new way of testing the presence of COVID-19, relying only on a simple saltwater rinse and gargle for students and employees of the university who are dreading the swab up the nose.

On the campus, two types of tests have usually been offered to students and employees so far to detect the presence of COVID-19: the quick-turnaround antigen tests and the polymerase chain reaction test — but both require the nasal swab.

Michael Worobey, head of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology who specializes in the evolution of viruses, began using the mouth rinse test in limited campus populations after reading a paper on the test published by researchers in British Columbia on medRxiv, a preprint server for health sciences research.

"It's vastly more tolerable than the nasopharyngeal swab — and people can do it all by themselves and even keep their mask on almost the whole time," said Worobey.

He even demonstrated the procedure himself. After opening a crayon-sized, pink plastic vial containing a liquid, "you pull your mask down, and you just squirt a bit of sterile saltwater into your mouth," he explained.

The liquid needs to be swished around in the mouth for five seconds, then the head needs to be tilted back for the 10 seconds of gargling. After a total of three cycles of swishing and gargling, the liquid should be spit into the sample cup and finally the lid must be screwed back.

#14  From the article:

“The cognitive function of the participants was not known pre-COVID, and the results also do not reflect long-term recovery — so any effects on cognition may be short-term,” Joanna Wardlaw, a professor of applied neuroimaging at Edinburgh University, told Reuters.

That sounds exactly like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which sometimes resolves itself spontaneously within the first year or three. But sometimes it does not, and the scientists are currently talking about some smallish percent of Covid patients experiencing a slow infection — call it chronic-like — versus the usual acute form.

I suspect they will discover that most infections act like this sometimes, and that influenza has been doing this all along without anyone paying any attention to those debilitated by it.

Israeli company’s bid for universal flu vaccine fails in clinical trails
The scientific process is a method by which beautiful theories are expensively tested to destruction. This one was particularly beautiful.
[IsraelTimes] Attempt at inoculation by BiondVax falls through, as worries spread of potentially harsh flu season creating mayhem due to symptoms being similar to those of COVID-19.

An attempt at creating a universal flu vaccine by Israeli company BiondVax Pharmaceuticals failed during Phase 3 clinical trials.

The vaccine, which showed promising results in Phase 2 tests, was intended to defend against a wide range of flu strains and sought to save people from the need to be vaccinated anew every year.

BiondVax announced that in Phase 3 clinical trials, which included 12,463 volunteers from multiple countries, no clear difference was found between subjects that received the vaccine and those who received a placebo.

The company’s research into a universal, long-lasting flu vaccine has been ongoing for 15 years and has had millions of dollars invested in it.

BiondVax, expecting the success of the trial, had already begun construction of a new manufacturing facility in Jerusalem that was meant to produce tens of millions of doses annually.

Dr. Ron Babecoff, founder and CEO of BiondVax, responded to the news in a statement.

"We are disappointed with these results, and I would like to thank the BiondVax team for their efforts, dedication, and passion over the past 15 years. Together we have tried to develop an innovative approach to an ongoing global problem. I am especially grateful to each clinical trial participant, as well as researchers, for all [of] their efforts in all [of] the trials, and to our shareholders for their support," he said.

News of the failure of the flu vaccine comes days after a senior Israeli doctor warned that Israel’s education system could be forced to shut down soon after it reopens if the country has a bad flu season, due to its symptoms being similar to those of COVID-19.

"We know that children are drivers of influenza, and if children are not vaccinated, we could see transmission in schools and preschools, and may have to shut down the education system again," said Dr. Eyal Leshem of Sheba Medical Center in an interview with Times of Israel.
