[Variety] Tony Rice, one of the leading lights of bluegrass music since the 1970s, and a 2013 inductee into the International Bluegrass Music Association Hall of Fame, died suddenly on Christmas Day. He was 69.
“It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to one of the most iconic voices and musicians in bluegrass,” the International Bluegrass Association said in announcing the death. “David Anthony ‘Tony’ Rice passed away yesterday, Dec. 25, at his home in Reidsville, NC. Few will ever match his skill and influence.”
“Sometime during Christmas morning while making his coffee, our dear friend and guitar hero Tony Rice passed from this life and made his swift journey to his heavenly home,” Skaggs wrote. “It’s still quite a shock to the whole family. After talking with Tony’s wife Pam and their daughter India, they asked if I would make a statement on their behalf and give them some privacy to process during this difficult time. I was honored to help out. Tony is also survived by his brothers Wyatt and Ronnie, and all of you who loved his music and those who will continue to share it with others.
Rice had not played guitar publicly since his International Bluegrass Hall of Fame induction in 2013, due to medical conditions that made playing guitar difficult. He had not sung in concert since shortly after being diagnosed with muscle-tension dysphonia in 1994.

His stone face was smashed in by Henry VIII’s soldiers during the Reformation. His alabaster hands, once clasped in prayer, were cut off and the angels who cradled his head were decapitated. Afterwards, his shattered form lay hidden for centuries behind an old pipe organ, unseen, forgotten and enveloped in dirt.
Now, in a find that conservators have described as “exciting beyond our expectations”, this desecrated effigy – believed to be of a local priest, John de Belton – is being unveiled for the first time in a medieval church in Derbyshire.
The newly discovered monument dates back to 1350, making it the earliest alabaster effigy of a priest that is known to exist in the UK. It also has more medieval paint on it than any other effigy of the era, including significant traces of gold, as well as exotic minerals such as cinnabar and azurite.
“He would have been a very bright, blingy type of statue when he was first made – so far, the conservators have found dark red, bright blue, black and green paint as well as gold,” said Anne Heathcote, the church warden of St Wilfrid’s in Barrow-upon-Trent, who made the discovery. “He is wearing priest’s robes, which have been very finely sculpted by someone who was obviously a master sculptor.”
While serving the parish in 1348, De Belton is thought to have lost his life to the Black Death. “We have two Black Death pits in the churchyard and because it’s a Knights Hospitaller church, we think that the Hospitallers looked after plague victims and buried them. That was part of their job.”

Heathcote is one of the few people who ever knew of its existence: “I’ve known it was there forever – since I was three or four years old. My father, grandfather and great grandfather were church wardens before me, and I used to climb behind the church organ as a child. [AP] TOKYO — Japan’s government will temporarily ban entry of all nonresident foreign nationals as a precaution against a new and potentially more contagious coronavirus variant that has spread across Britain.
The entry ban will start Monday and last through Jan. 31 for the time being, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement late Saturday.
Japan banned entry of nonresident foreigners from Britain and South Africa last week, but is further stepping up border control after confirming the new variant in seven people over the last two days — five returnees from Britain who tested at airports and two others in Tokyo.
Japan is also suspending exemptions of a 14-day quarantine for Japanese nationals and resident foreigners on a short-track program that began in November. The entrants now must carry proof of a negative test 72 hours prior to departure for Japan and self-isolate for two weeks after arrival, the ministry said.

[WND] The U.S. Supreme Court has given Pennsylvania a deadline of two days after the presidential inauguration to respond to a challenge to the outcome of the 2020 election.
"This means that by the time [Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy] Boockvar and the others the Trump campaign is seeking to take to the Supreme Court even respond to the petition, president-elect Joe Biden will already be sworn in," Fox News noted.
President Trump held a lead of more than 700,000 votes in Pennsylvania shortly after the polls closed. But after huge "dumps" of ballots overnight almost exclusively for Biden arrived, the Democrat suddenly moved into the lead.
The justices said Boockvar has until Jan. 22 to respond. President Trump's campaign had asked for the court to set the deadline for this week.
The Jan. 22 deadline might become irrelevant, Fox News pointed out, because the court could decline to hear the case, saying it is moot or impossible to resolved at that point.
The lawsuit charges that non-legislative officials, often prompted by partisan third parties, "ignored or significantly altered and thereby violated state election law, including, most troublingly, laws enacted to minimize the risk of fraud in mail voting and thereby protect the integrity of the election process."
Trump personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani said the petition follows a related Pennsylvania case in which Justice Samuel Alito and two other justices observed "the constitutionality of the [Pennsylvania] Supreme Court’s decision [extending the statutory deadline for receipt of mail ballots from 8 pm on election day to 5 pm three days later] ... has national importance, and there is a strong likelihood that the State Supreme Court decision violates the Federal Constitution.'"

[Arutz 7] - Israel will enter its third lockdown tonight at 5 PM in an attempt to reverse rising coronavirus numbers.
According to the government decision, the lockdown will last two weeks, but it may be extended and last three or four weeks.
During the lockdown, classes will take place as usual in day care centers, kindergartens and in grades 1-4 and 11-12. All other grades will continue through distance learning instead of holding classes in school.
During the lockdown, it will be forbidden to leave the place of residence beyond 1,000 meters, except for certain cases, including getting vaccinated, receiving medical or social care, attending a demonstration, legal proceedings, leaving for sports activities, transferring a minor between separated parents, leaving for a work place or educational setting, attending a funeral, wedding or Brit Millah (subject to the limits on the number of attendees).
In addition, the government decided to ban the departure from the place of residence for the purpose of staying at another person's place of residence.
Public and business spaces will also be closed except for essential stores: food, hygiene, optics, pharmacy, electrical appliances and products needed for essential home repairs.
Workplaces that employ more than 10 employees will not be allowed to have either 50% of their workforce or 10 employees present, whichever is higher, excluding essential services.
Professional sports teams will continue to operate as usual in both training and games.
Activities in open areas will be prohibited. Practical studies at an institution of vocational education or training for adults, high school studies for dropout or at-risk youth, and activities of youth movements will be prohibited. Studies at these institutions will be held online instead.

Israel is a tiny country and they're pretty good at avoiding objective trouble. Plus its better to be safe at this point. I have a soft spot for the place too, lived in the Diplomat Hotel back in '83 for about 2 months
Humility and carefulness always trumps liberty lovin' bullheadedness, if you ask me. I don't scare of death and disease easy, especially contagions. [I'm what you might call a faith nut, just short of dancing with a damn snake in my hands.] Your individual attitudes to the contagion becomes immaterial to a State when it is faced by a possibility of rapidly dwindling populations. Especially when there is an 'enemy demographic' that is increasing and a 'home demographic' that is essential to maintain. No one understands this better than societies battling constant hostility from vermin.
So a State response of lockdown to protect valuable populations is a sound strategy, and really the only one a government can justifiably take. Anything less would lead to deaths and maybe bigger strain on medical facilities of socialist establishments, industry asked to pitch in, and economy in general than a lockdown will. In countries [especially Asian] where the adamant individual does not take precedence over the collective, people find this idea easier to accept. It's just a matter of national perspective.

[Guardian UK, Where Rantburg Gets Its Climate Change News] -Cambridge, Massachusetts, has become the first US city to mandate the placing of stickers on fuel pumps to warn drivers of the resulting dangers posed by the climate crisis. Picture at left in the article.
The final design of the bright yellow stickers, shared with the Guardian, includes text that warns drivers the burning of gasoline, diesel and ethanol has "major consequences on human health and the environment including contributing to climate change".
I expect they will have about the same impact as the warning statement on cigarette packages.
The stickers will be placed on all fuel pumps in Cambridge, which is situated near Boston and is home to Harvard University, "fairly soon" once they are received from printers, a city spokesman confirmed.
"The city of Cambridge is working hard with our community to fight climate change," the spokesman added. "The gas pump stickers will remind drivers to think about climate change and hopefully consider non-polluting options." Waddya gonna do if climate change.... fights back?
The placement of the stickers follows an ordinance passed by Cambridge in January. The city has a target of slashing planet-heating emissions by 80% and offsetting the remainder by 2050, making it carbon neutral.
Transportation, primarily the use of cars and trucks, is responsible for more than a quarter of US emissions but there has been scant success in weaning Americans off their predilection for large, energy-intensive vehicles. Indeed, a boom in SUV sales in the US threatens to cause a surge in emissions if national fuel efficiency standards are not tightened further.

Better yet, they should forbid ALL gasoline/diesel fueled vehicles into the city. This would include grocery/merchandise delivery vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, police vehicles (except bicycles) and personal cars. Forbid the sale of all petroleum products. That could be done immediately, instead of waiting years.
Just think how much America could reduce its carbon footprint if every right thinking city did this. Yes people would starve to death, but that's a small price to pay for reducing CO2!

So where should the VAX's be given? 1st IF a person wants th VAX and there are initially only enough VAX's to dose say 1 in 10, that want the VAX. Then I would say. Front-line C-19 workers, those most likely to die if infected. Then following age mortality pattern in reverse.

When results of this model falls short of the desired amount of "playing field leveling" the Schmidt types seek, denial of other medial services (already happening in lock downs) and then bureaucratically emposed euthanasia (death panels, you know,) will be added to the mix.

I still say the best approach for people the social engineers are targeting for vaccine slow-walk is this: Change your will. If you die of COVID before being offered access to the vaccine, your assets go to truly odious (to the left) organizations. Then have your lawyer send your kids a "ball's in your court now, muchachos" letter.

I volunteered to be a lab rat. 72, have had c19 plus follow-on pneumonia twice in the last 12 months (which is annoying). Never got treated for C19 except for teleconference sessions, but needed an assist with pneumonia, which I get at least once a year.
Getting a shot this coming week, on Tuesday the 29th. Might be a placebo (it's the VA so who knows) and might be toxic. But we the people need data, and few are volunteering. :) Maybe smarter than me. :) We will see. obtw, I had to look up Mvskoke. Turns out is is roughly the Creek Nation.

As of right now, the state will receive its first shipment from Pfizer around Dec. 15. Of that first shipment, 9,750 will go to the state's hospitals (prepositioned sites), and 88,725 will go to Walgreens and CVS, who will in turn distribute to congregate care settings.
On Dec. 22, Ohio anticipates a shipment of 201,000 vaccines from Moderna, the governor said. These will go to 98 hospitals and 108 health departments. Hospitals will vaccinate those dealing with COVID patients. Health departments will vaccinate people like EMS and other essential workers.
Also on Dec. 22, the governor said the state expects another shipment from Pfizer. The tentative number of vaccines in this shipment is 123,000. These will go to Walgreen and CVS for vaccination of those in congregate care settings.
A few days later, Ohio expects to get another 148,000 vaccines from Pfizer and 89,000 vaccines from Moderna.
[Governor] DeWine acknowledged that these shipments will not be enough to cover the individuals laid out in the first phase of the vaccination process -- but it is a start.

FWIW - I will not be getting the vaccination. Well, maybe in 5 years once it has been properly tested. Though not sure why even then, as I have already had the disease. Nature's vaccination.

My concern is any flight, work or public transportation; even everyday shopping, will require verification of Vaccine product and that it is current so if not then failure of service. You will be scanned as well as your card. Even possible arrest and or fine for noncompliance. I will see my endocrinologist soon and she does not believe in vaccines as I do. I have not had a viral infection in 40 years and perhaps longer. Bacterial however that is a different animal.
