Iranian Money Launderer for Mexican Cartels Sent to U.S. Prison
[Breitbart] An Iranian businessman will be spending more than three years in a U.S. prison for laundering money for Mexican cartels. The man used firms along the U.S.-Mexico Border to launder illicit funds, according to court documents.

This week, 51-year-old Mohsen Mohammadi-Mohammadi went before U.S. District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo in Laredo, who sentenced him to 40 months for money laundering, a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced. Mohammadi pleaded guilty to the charge in December. After his sentence, he is expected to be deported.

Mohammadi worked with various individuals to launder money using a tactic called black market peso exchange, prosecutors argued, where they would trade commodities internationally so as to give cartels their funds in Mexican cash.

Court documents claim that from 2011 to 2013, Mohammadi would have associates pick up drug proceeds in U.S. cities and move them to Laredo to purchase and sell premium perfumes and other items. Prosecutors claim Mohammadi fled to Iran in 2017 after the case became public and it was not until recent travel to New York that allowed authorities to arrest him.

The use of border city perfume stores to launder cartel money is not new. In 2012, a federal judge in New York sentenced Vikram Datta to 20-years in prison for his role in using his stores in Laredo to launder money for the Sinaloa Cartel, a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed. Ptosecutors claimed that from 2009 to 2011, Datta used his business to launder millions.

A 'number' of British citizens detained in Afghanistan: UK
The national “interim” government could never be said to countenance such a thing, but sometimes local Taliban running things on the ground forget that they’re pretending to be civilized.
[AlAhram] A "number" of British nationals are being detained in Afghanistan, the UK government said Saturday, adding that it had raised the issue with the country's Taliban

authorities.

The foreign ministry's statement to AFP came a day after the Taliban released two overseas journalists who were tossed into the calaboose, including a former BBC correspondent.

"We are providing support to the families of a number of British men who have been detained in Afghanistan," the ministry said, without specifying how many British nationals were being held and by whom.

"UK officials have raised their detention with the Taliban at every opportunity, including when a delegation travelled to Kabul this week."

A British delegation led by Hugo Shorter -- the head of the UK's mission to Afghanistan but based in Qatar

abuses, with Taliban officials during his trip to the country.

On Friday, Western media reports said at least six British citizens were being detained in Afghanistan, including former BBC correspondent Andrew North, who was released later that day.

The Taliban authorities did not comment when contacted by AFP.

Also among British nationals detained is Peter Jouvenal, who has been held since early December, a statement released by his friends said. A journalist turned businessman, Jouvenal is also a German citizen and is married to an Afghan woman. He might have been "detained in error" as he was in Afghanistan to discuss investments in the country's mining industry, the statement said.

"He is being held without charge, and with no freedom to contact his family or lawyers," it said, adding that Jouvenal had been the cameraman for a CNN

"Before his arrest he was working openly and had frequent meetings with senior Taliban officials."

On Friday, the Taliban released North and another foreign journalist after the two were detained while on an assignment for the UN refugee agency in Afghanistan. It was unclear when they were detained but the agency said it was "relieved" that the two and their Afghan colleagues were free.

Taliban government front man Zabihullah Mujahid said they were tossed into the calaboose because they did not possess valid identity cards and documents.

Kenya beefs up security on Somali border after Al-Shabaab attacks
[Garowe] The Kenyan security agencies beefed up security as the Somalia-based al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

forces of Evil have seemingly resumed attacks in neighboring Kenya after months of relative peace and stability, striking thrice within a week in separate incidents.

Last week, the forces of Evil killed over 10 people near Mandera, a town neighboring Somalia near the Gedo region, after targeting a passenger vehicle. This was the first attack on Kenyan soil in as many months according to police reports.

A few days later, the forces of Evil killed four people in the neighboring Wajir County just within the area where the Kenyan Defense Forces [KDF] have been conducting operations along with their American counterparts.

Yet again, the forces of Evil carried out an attack on Thursday evening in their latest wave of violence, leaving at least four people dead after a vehicle they were driving in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device [IED] in Garissa County in Kenya.

The incident happened Thursday as the vehicle, which was ferrying six persons in total, made its way to Hulugho from Masalani. The IED detonated between Bura East and Galmagala areas. The driver of the vehicle that sustained serious damage is fighting for his life in hospital while another passenger escaped with minor injuries.

The dear departed persons are said to have been from the same family. Kenyan official James Kianda said an operation had been launched to get those behind the incident. He said they suspect the bomb was set up by al-Shabaab forces of Evil operating in the area. Garissa leaders also urged residents to be more vigilant and report any suspicious persons to the authorities.

Al-Shabaab has been planting explosives on the routes used by the security agencies. They have also been targeting communication masts in their attacks. The area is near the Somalia border, and the forces of Evil usually cross at will and stage attacks before escaping back.

French air raids kill 40 fighters in Burkina Faso
[Aljazeera] French forces have killed dozens of fighters in Burkina Faso linked to deadly attacks this week in neighbouring Benin whose victims included a Frenchman, the army said.

The French-led Barkhane force in the Sahel region "engaged its air intelligence capacities to locate the armed group" responsible for the attacks, before carrying out air attacks that killed 40 fighters, the army’s general command said on Saturday.

The Frenchman had been among nine people killed this week in two attacks on park rangers in the W National Park, a wildlife reserve in Benin’s remote north bordering troubled Niger and Burkina Faso.

Two roadside bombs killed five park rangers, one park official, one soldier and a French trainer on Tuesday, according to a Beninese government toll.

Two days later, another park official was killed in an explosion.

France said on Thursday it had opened an investigation as a 50-year-old citizen was among those killed in a "terrorist attack" in the park.

African Parks, the organisation running the reserve, said the Frenchman had been a "chief law enforcement instructor" there.

Benin had long been one of the more stable countries in West Africa, where fighters from al-Qaeda and ISIL (ISIS) threaten Sahel countries, but it has experienced several recent attacks.

Criminal smuggling gangs also operate along its frontier.

French forces 'neutralize' 40 militants in Burkina Faso
[DW] The French army on Saturday said it killed 40 faceless myrmidons in Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
. According to a statement posted on Twitter, the faceless myrmidons were "neutralized" during a joint operation with Burkinabe armed forces. The statement went on to say that the armed "terrorist group" was responsible for two attacks in neighboring Benin.
Probably Al Qaeda. Some from the 2% of the population that is Tuareg joined forces with the Tuareg-linked branch of Al Qaeda in the Maghreb in Mali (JNIM), allowed safe haven in Burkina Faso by then-president Blaise Compaoré in exchange for keeping kinetic action across the border, but when he left office they expanded activities into the provinces along the Mali border. ISIS in the Greater Sahel, formed from a faction of AQIM’s al Mourabitoun, is much less active, while Nigeria’s Boko Haram/ISWAP mostly pursues money and weapons to take back home.
GROUP BELIEVED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BENIN ATTACKS
The French army said on Tuesday and Wednesday that an gang operating in the area of the W National Park led attacks on a ranger patrol and members of Benin's armed forces.

Nine people were killed, including five park rangers and a French national.

According to the French military's statement, aerial intelligence was used to locate the group after the alarm was raised. On Thursday, a column of "terrorists" traveling on cycle of violences was targeted by a drone as they crossed the border of Burkina Faso. Twelve were killed in that engagement.

Shortly after that, warplanes carried out three strikes targeting more holy warriors. "During this action more than 30 bandidos bandidos holy warriors were neutralized," the statement said.

In January, French armed forces reported that dozens of Islamist faceless myrmidons were killed in a number of engagements in northern Burkina Faso.

. Around 5,000 French troops are joined by soldiers from Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad.

Last year, La Belle France's President Emmanuel Macron said his country's involvement in the operation would end in the first quarter of 2022.

The insurgency has plunged the region into chaos with a number of states experiencing political turmoil.

In January, Burkina Faso became the latest country to fall under military control, joining Mali, Guinea and Chad, where militaries toppled their countries' governments in 2021.

One of the reasons cited by the military for seizing control was growing frustration with the government's inability to contain the insurgency.

government for his alleged involvement in money laundering.

The accused, who was identified as Agha Sabir Hussain, was allegedly running an illegal money exchange business in Quetta for a long time. An FIR has been registered against him.

Sources said FIA had been in search of Sabir Hussain for some time. A team of the agency raided a place where he was thought to be hiding and arrested him.

The agency’s deputy director, Bashir Somroo, told Dawn that the accused had made transactions amounting to billions of rupees through Hundi and Hawala. An initial investigation revealed that he had laundered over Rs1 billion through Hundi and Hawala.

Mr Somroo said Sabir Hussain is an employee of the Services and General Administration Department of the Balochistan government. He said more arrests in the case could not be ruled out.

Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Standing Buffalo drew a bead on his old enemy and squeezed the trigger...
in a joint operation FIA and intelligence personnel arrested a bigwig of the House Building Finance Corporation based in Bloody Karachi

for allegedly conducting Hundi and Hawala business for Iranian intelligence, sources said.
Why would Iran need to fund jihadis in Karachi, of all places? Has this anything to do with the Hazeras, from whom they harvest cannon fodder for elsewhere?
The accused was identified as Syed Wisal Haider Naqvi. Souces said the accused allegedly arranged funds in Pakistain for the intelligence agency.

Also in Karachi, security agencies have arrested 13 people for allegedly spying for a foreign intelligence agency.
What, another one? Truly Karachi is a an equal opportunity den of iniquity!
They said officials of FIA and an intelligence agency were interrogating the arrested persons.

Clashes break out between Jews, Arabs, police in Sheikh Jarrah
[JPost] appears to be a future evergreen storyline
They’ve not paid rent to the Israeli owners since they were reconquered in the 1967 war, so of course they’re pissy.
The clashes came shortly after MK Itamar Ben Gvir announced that he would be setting up an office in the neighborhood.

A Jewish-Israeli was moderately injured after being run over by an Arab driver in the Sheikh Jarrah-Shimon Hatzadik neighborhood of east Jerusalem on Saturday night, shortly after clashes broke out between Jews and Arabs and police in the neighborhood.

The driver told police that he had been sprayed with pepper spray and was trying to drive away when he hit the Israeli. Police are investigating the incident, but it is not considered a terrorist incident.

Syria regime shelling on Idlib kills six

Syrian regime shelling killed six civilians including women and kiddies on Saturday in Idlib province, the country's last main opposition bastion, a war monitor said.

An AFP photographer at the scene reported seeing several bodies being taken away from a wrecked home in Maarat al-Naasan, an area close to regime-controlled territory.

"The shell fell on a civilian home," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based group with a network of sources on the ground in the war-torn country.

The monitor said two women and two children were among those killed, who were all from the same family. Many others were maimed.

The shelling had begun at around 11:30 GMT, with more shells fired intermittently afterwards, the AFP photographer said.

The Syrian regime and its ally Russia have regularly targeted hospitals and civilian areas since the start of the war in 2011, according to the Observatory.

The Idlib region bordering The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
