At least 200 bandits have been killed in Niger State in the past three days in security operations, an official has said.
The state's Commissioner for Local Government, Community Development, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar, said this on Wednesday.
Mary Noel-Berje, the media aide to Governor Abubakar Bello, in a statement said Mr Umar spoke at a press briefing at Government House, Minna on the directive of the governor.
According to her, Mr Umar said many commanders of the terrorists were killed in the operations, pointing out that the eliminated terrorists belonged to the camps of Ali Kawajo, Yello Janbros, Kachalla Halilu and Bello Turji.
The commissioner added that the success recorded was due to a new approach evolved in the joint security operations and the collaboration of traditional leaders, community leaders and members .
He said over 60 motorcycles, unspecified number of cows and arms were recovered from the terrorists, adding that the arms have been handed over to the security agencies.
The commissioner said the security agencies, however, recorded two deaths and many injured officers, whom he said are receiving treatment at a government facility.
"He on behalf of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello sympathis9ed with the families of the security operatives that were killed and their agencies saying that their sacrifices is appreciated and will not go unrewarded.
"While commending the security agencies, community leaders and members of the affected communities for their collective efforts towards annihilating the terrorists, cautioned the general public to be vigilant as some of the terrorists who escaped with bullet wounds are taking shelter in some communities.
"He passionately appealed to the public to report any strange persons within their environment while re-iterating government's determination to win the war.
"We are appealing to the general public that this fight is not for government alone, it is for us all, we will not rest, until we chase them out of our land, and will continue trailing those tthat have escaped as well ensure that we do everything possible for them to pay, for the destruction that they have causing our people," the statement said.
Troops of Operation Desert Sanity have destroyed several camps belonging to the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād Gwagwari, in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The camps were burnt down and equipment left behind was recovered.
SaharaReporters gathered that the terrorists during the attack fled in disarray, abandoning their gun trucks and weapons.
Since the death of JAS leader, Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been consolidating its grip in locations around Lake Chad.
In 2021, it appointed Wali Sani Shuwaram, a 45-year-old as the new Leader (Wali) of ISWAP in Lake Chad.
The sect’s membership has swollen with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters under Shekau.
The terror group has caused over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions of individuals mainly in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
Shafaq News/ Turkish artillery heavily bombarded the village of Hurori in the Amadiyah district, north of Diyala, earlier today, Thursday.
Eyewitnesses told Shafaq News Agency that the village was repeatedly struck by Turkey's artillery between Wednesday noon and Thursday morning.
The attack did not result in human casualties, but the eyewitnesses reported multiple cases of panic attacks and extensive material damage to several residential units in the area.

Shafaq News / An explosion occurred on Thursday targeting a convoy carrying logistical support equipment for the US-led Coalition in Saladin Governorate.

Israeli security forces arrested a Paleostinian man on Thursday afternoon for allegedly carrying out two stabbing attacks in the West Bank town of Hizme outside Jerusalem.
Police said the 20-year-old suspect was arrested in his home in the Shuafat refugee camp by Border Police and Israel Defense Forces troops, after they received information from the Shin Bet security agency.
On Thursday morning and on Wednesday afternoon two Jewish Israeli men in their 40s were separately stabbed in a store in Hizme under near-identical circumstances.
Both men were taken to a hospital in Jerusalem in moderate condition, according to medics.
According to the IDF and police, both stabbings appeared to be terror attacks, and were allegedly carried out by the suspect.
He was taken for further questioning by the Shin Bet, law enforcement officials said.
The suspect was not immediately identified.
The Hizme checkpoint, northeast of Jerusalem, has been the site of numerous attacks by Paleostinians in recent years, mainly against Israeli security forces.

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, a person lost his life by unidentified gunmen in front of his house in the town of the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria.
“Unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle broke into the house of the 39-year-old named Ibrahim al-Jadyan and deadly shot him,” Inad al-Hamad, a resident of al-Sabha town, 25 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said.
“Al-Jadyan was from the town of al-Boulel, 20 km east of Deir ez-Zor, which is under the control of government forces, and had lived with his family in the town of Al-Sabha for several years,” al-Hamad added.
The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed the increased in the number of killings of SDF members, AANES employees, tribal notables and civilians.
On Tuesday, a person lost his life on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen in the town of Thiban, east of Deir ez-Zor.

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – 12 soldiers of the Syrian government forces were injured by shelling and sniping of the armed opposition in the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria, the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria in Khmeimim Air Base announced yesterday.
“Three Syrian soldiers were injured in an attack launched by terrorists against the Syrian forces in Safsafa region,” Counter Admiral Oleg Zhuravlyov, vice director of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria, said.
“Eight soldiers were injured in an artillery shelling launched by the terrorists against the Syrian forces in Kafr Battih region,” Zhuravlyov added.
He pointed out that another “Syrian soldier was injured in a sniping operation in Fater region.”
Since early January 2022, the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria has witnessed frequent bombardment by the Russian forces on opposition sites, in addition to mutual shelling between the government forces and the opposition factions.
In January, a soldier of the Syrian government forces was killed and two others were injured in a shelling by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS-formerly al-Nusra Front) of the sites of the government forces in Idlib and Aleppo.
The Syrian government forces and opposition factions exchange bombardments within the de-escalation zone, despite the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement signed between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in March 2021.

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Several villages in the countryside of Manbij were hit with more than fifty shells of the Turkish forces and the affiliated opposition factions during the past week.
The Turkish bombardment ramped up during the last two weeks of last February, and several villages adjacent to the contact lines in the countryside of Manbij were hit almost daily with shelling, a well-informed military source told North Press.
On Monday, the villages that are on the line separating the forces of the Manbij Military Council and the Turkish-backed opposition factions in the northern and northwestern countryside of Manbij, were bombed by the Turkish forces.
“From their base in the village of Sheikh Nasser, the Turkish forces bombed the villages of al-Yalanli and Qart Wiran, northwest of Manbij, with ten mortar shells, ” a special source told North Press.
On Wednesday, the villages of al-Tokhar al-Kabir and Aoun al-Dadat, north of the city of Manbij, north Syria, were hit with twelve mortar shells by the Turkish forces and the affiliated opposition factions.
