It's that time of the year. We must ask for your help...
We must again ask our readers for donations to keep Rantburg.com going.

Rantburg has been busy with the Hamas pogroms and the Russian-Ukrainian war. We cover both as best we can, curating news articles from foreign and domestic sources. We also span the range of mostly conservative politics, also foreign and domestic.

The founder, Fred, has been active with his bloids and his contributions, and his inline comments. Regulars also have been helping and we appreciate them as well.

We still get the occasional lefty who this time insists that Rantburg is an echo chamber. He can tell ignoring the varying news articles on the war on terror.

It has to be said: Rantburg.com is a community, safe place, if you will, to read, to comment, or to lurk quietly. We appreciate all you can do to help this noble project along.

There are several ways to contribute;

1) Paypal, link is on the right sidebar. Not the button, but the link just above it.
2) Zelle
3) You can ask for his mail address and mail him some money that way.

'Take Back Our Border' convoy arrives in Texas: 'We want our nation saved'
[FoxNews] Army veteran Dr. Pete Chambers says fentanyl pouring across southern border amounts to 'chemical warfare'.

The Take Back Our Border convoy has traveled across the United States to bring attention to the border crisis and the reality of "open border policies."

Take Back Our Border leader Dr. Pete Chambers and Senate candidate Ben Luna, R-N.M., joined "Fox & Friends First" Friday to sound the alarm about the growing crisis, including the drugs coming across the border.

"The fentanyl is, I call it, a chemical warfare across the border. The drug trade is tremendous," said Chambers, an Army veteran.

Speaking from near Austin, Texas, a woman participating in the convoy said Americans should be alarmed at the number of "single, military-age men" who are entering the country.

"This is an invasion and our country can't sustain this… We wonder, why are you allowing this to happen in our country?" she asked.

Chambers told host Todd Piro that he believes the goal of the ongoing border policies under the Biden administration is "complete destabilization," which he said is overwhelming the system.

"I worked on this border for the last two years of my military career, and I got out and went to work in the humanitarian side. These folks from [Take Back Our Border] contacted me to be a liaison with law enforcement. And now I'm watching the law enforcement and the citizens do this, which is a beautiful thing to see in these people. It's awesome," said Chambers.

Luna described New Mexico as a "funnel" that is "wide open" and overlooked when it comes to illegal immigration.

US sanctions Sudanese companies for funding conflict
[AFRICANEWS] The United States Treasury has imposed sanctions on three Sudan

It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese companies allegedly financing the devastating war plaguing the nation.

Among the entities targeted are Alkhaleej Bank and al-Fakher Advanced Works, both under the control of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Additionally, Zadna International, linked to the Sudanese army, faces sanctions, as stated by the US Treasury Department in a release on Wednesday.

The Treasury Department's statement asserted that all three companies have played a role in undermining the peace, security, and stability of Sudan by engaging in activities such as money laundering and fundraising through gold exports.

These sanctions are part of a broader strategy aimed at curbing the ongoing nine-month conflict, which has resulted in the tragic loss of over 12,000 lives and forced nearly eight million people to flee their homes, according to UN reports.

On Tuesday, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the commander of the Sudanese army, called for a full-scale offensive against the RSF, expressing disinterest in dialogue, deeming it a futile endeavor.

Both the Sudanese army and the RSF have faced allegations of war crimes from the US government and various civil rights groups, vehemently denied by both parties. The situation remains complex as international efforts intensify to address the dire humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

El Fasher rocked by artillery clashes, raising fears of escalation
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The capital of North Darfur, El Fasher, was rocked by violent mostly peaceful artillery festivities between the Sudan

ese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Thursday, leaving at least 3 dead and 8 injured.

Despite repeated warnings from the international community, regional bodies, and local residents, the RSF launched an attack on El Fasher, a city serving as a refuge for displaced civilians fleeing the Darfur conflicts.

The medical director of El Fasher Hospital, South Abdo Musa, confirmed to Sudan Tribune that the hospital received 5 fatalities and 21 maimed from the festivities.

The RSF accused the army of initiating the attack, claiming they exercised restraint despite provocations from the army leadership in El Fasher, former regime brigades and "some new remnant agents".

The army, however, remained silent, issuing no statement regarding the incident.

Beyond human casualties, the festivities resulted in significant damage to civilian infrastructure. A statement by the Coordination of El Fasher Resistance® Committees reported that a significant number of RSF-fired shells landed on civilian homes, causing severe damage to buildings.

This incident exacerbates the already dire humanitarian situation in El Fasher. The city grapples with shortages of food, fuel, and medicine, further worsened by the suspension of commercial convoys previously provided by the joint force of armed movements under the Juba Peace Agreement.

The armed movements in El Fasher have mobilized their forces in anticipation of further attacks by the RSF on civilians. This development raises concerns about a potential escalation of the conflict, plunging the region back into chaos.

Their scheme, the report said, also involved blackmail, fraud, and theft of medications that are not sold without a prescription. Some suspects are accused of helping facilitate child sacrifice abortions, which are illegal outside of emergencies in Morocco.

38 killed and 52 wounded in communal clashes over land in South Sudan

battled with cattle herders who moved in looking for water and pasture during the dry season, and at least 38 people were killed and 52 suffered gunshot wounds, officials said Thursday.

The fighting started Wednesday and tensions remained high Thursday night, with officials reporting "minor festivities" and apprehension over Dire Revenge attacks in the remote area.

The information minister of Warrap state, William Wol Mayom, said fighting took place in the Alor area, which is in Lakes state and borders both Warrap and Unity states.

Mayom said security forces had been sent to calm the situation and to move the cattle herders away from the disputed wet lands.

"The violence has been de-escalated, but minor festivities are still being reported in inaccessible swampy areas and casualties cannot be fully verified," Mayom said.

A police spokesperson for Lakes state, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuach, said 19 of the dead and 17 of the maimed were civilians from Warrap state and 19 of the dead and 35 maimed were from Lakes state.

Makuach said young herders from Warrap migrated to the Alor area with their cattle two weeks ago and began burning brush and the temporary shelters of residents. He said the herders were looking for pasture and water in the swampy lands of Alor.

The bloodshed came four days after at least 52 people, including a U.N. peacekeeper, were killed and 64 maimed by button men who attacked villagers in Abyei, an oil-rich region that is claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan. Officials said that violence also arose from a dispute over land.

South Sudan won its independence from Sudan in 2011 after more than 39 years of war and then plunged into a ruinous internal conflict from 2013 to 2018 that stagnated development. Many guns remain in the hands of civilians who fought in the conflicts.

Segun Aremu: Nigerian traditional monarch shot dead, wife kidnapped
[AFRICANEWS] Armed assailants have shot a traditional ruler and kidnapped his wife along with another individual in the southwestern region of Nigeria, authorities say.

The victim was Segun Aremu, a retired army general and monarch holding the esteemed title of Olukoro of Koro. The attack unfolded on Thursday night when the assailants forcefully entered the palace.

Details surrounding the identity and motives of the button men remain unclear, leaving authorities puzzled as to whether a ransom is being demanded for the release of the kidnapped individuals. This tragic incident follows recent calls for a state of emergency to address the escalating security challenges in the region.

Campaigners, comprising approximately 50 civil society groups, have urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency, citing a concerning surge in abductions, surpassing 1,800 cases since his assumption of office in May. The demand for decisive action comes in the wake of heightened insecurity, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention.

Expressing outrage over the killing of Olukoro of Koro in Kwara state, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq condemned the act as "reckless, shocking, and abominable." He assured the public that authorities are committed to apprehending the perpetrators, with an ongoing manhunt led by the police.

This distressing incident adds to a series of recent abductions in the region. Earlier in the week, kidnappers seized five schoolchildren and four teachers in Ekiti state, demanding a ransom of 100 million naira ($110,000; £87,500) for their safe release. Additionally, a senior government official was kidnapped in the Bwari suburb of Abuja, mirroring the alarming trend of criminal activities encroaching upon urban areas.

The grim reality of kidnapping for ransom has intensified in Nigeria, with armed gangs targeting various demographics, including road travelers, students, and residents in both rural and urban settings. The urgency to address this growing threat has reached a critical point, requiring swift and comprehensive measures to safeguard the lives and security of the nation's citizens.

Turkey arrests 7 on suspicion of selling information to Mossad
Truly a Mossad project, or just some Kurds that Sultan Erdogan dislikes?
[IsraelTimes] Ottoman Turkish police arrested seven people on suspicion of selling information to the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, the state-run Anadolu news agency says.

The suspects, who allegedly passed details to Mossad via private detectives, were detained in a joint operation with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

’s National Intelligence Organization, or MIT.

Acting on warrants issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, police anti-terror and intelligence branch officers carried out raids in Istanbul and the west coast city of Izmir, Anadolu reports.

Two other suspects in the investigation are thought to have been detained earlier.

Last month, 34 people were detained by Ottoman Turkish police on suspicion of spying for Israel. They were accused of planning to carry out activities that included reconnaissance and "pursuing, assaulting and kidnapping" foreign nationals living in Turkey.

At the time, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said most of the suspects were charged with committing "political or military espionage" on behalf of Israeli intelligence.

Mossad is said to have recruited Paleostinians and Syrian nationals in Turkey as part of an operation against foreigners living in Turkey.

Following the Jan. 2 arrests, Anadolu cited a prosecution document as saying the operation targeted "Paleostinian nationals and their families ... within the scope of the ongoing Israeli-Paleostinian conflict."

The head of Israel’s domestic Shin Bet security agency said in December that his organization was prepared to target Hamas

24 terrorists killed in Mach, Kolpur during three-day long operations: ISPR
[GEO.TV] At least 24 bad boyz were potted by law enforcement agencies during the "firefights and sanitisation/clearance operations" which lasted for three days in Mach and Kolpur in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Friday.

The key bully boyz — killed after they attacked the Mach and Kolpur Complexes in Balochistan on the night of January 29 and 30 — include Shehzad Baloch, Attaullah, Salah Uddin, Abdul Wadood and Zeeshan, said the military's media wing.

"The identification process of remaining bully boyz is in process, the military's media wing stated," the statement read.

During an intense exchange of fire with terrorists, at least four brave law enforcement agencies personnel and two civilians embraced martyrdom. The martyred LEAs personnel fought gallantly against the terrorists.

"Law enforcement agencies deputed on security offered stiff resistance and forced the attackers to repulse," the ISPR said in its statement.

The statement further read that these bully boyz were then hunted down in the ensuing sanitisation and clearance operations which have now been concluded after clearing and securing the area.

The ISPR mentioned an effective response by LEAs is a testament to their unrelenting resolve in the fight against terrorism.

"Pakistain's Security Forces stand shoulder to shoulder with other Law Enforcement Agencies to ensure peace and stability in the country."

SECURITY FORCES REPULSE FIRE RAID
The operation by the LEAs began as bully boyz launched multiple attacks on Mach and Kolpur Complexes in Balochistan earlier this week.

The security forces repulsed a "fire raid" attempt by Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) bully boyz in Balochistan’s Mach late Monday, sources had told Geo News.

Mach city echoed with explosions and plunged into darkness after bully boyz fired several rockets from mountains, followed by heavy gunfire, on Monday night, according to The News.

People were trapped in their homes due to explosions and firing while firing also started in Kolpur town and the Gokhart Bibi Nani area.

According to security sources, unidentified persons fired 15 rockets from the mountains at 9:30pm in the Mach area of Kuchi Bolan.

Sources added security forces had received intelligence about the terrorist attack and laid an ambush for the terrorists. The bully boyz retreated after being overwhelmed by the effective response of the security forces, they added.

US launches retaliatory airstrikes on Iraqi territory
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] US forces have begun carrying out airstrikes on Iraqi territory, Saudi Arabian TV channel Al Hadath reported.

According to journalists, the targets of the attack were the headquarters of Iran-backed Iraqi armed groups in the Al-Sikaq area near the village of Al-Qaim near the Syrian border.

Earlier, the channel announced massive bombings in eastern Syria in response to the recent drone attack on an American base in Jordan.

The Pentagon said media reports of strikes in the Middle East were premature. Only now has a retaliatory attack begun after an attack on American troops in northeast Jordan, RIA Novosti reports.

In turn, the ABC television channel, which informed on the evening of February 2 about US strikes in Syria, denied the reports. The initial series of strikes in Syria were not carried out from the United States, journalists clarified, citing sources. A few minutes later, a report citing American officials reported that “retaliatory US airstrikes have begun in Syria and Iraq.”

As Regnum reported, on January 28, a drone attacked an American military base in the northeastern part of Jordan. The Pentagon reported three dead US military personnel. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on February 1 that the United States will not tolerate attacks on its military personnel and will take all necessary measures to protect them and protect its interests in the Middle East.

Washington is not considering the possibility of withdrawing American forces from Syria due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East and attacks on its bases in the region, Austin emphasized.

in Khan Younis, as diplomatic efforts in pursuit of a ceasefire accelerated.

Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said on Thursday that success in the fight against the Paleostinian bully boyz in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, where Israel launched a major ground attack last week, meant its forces could advance to Rafah on the enclave's southern border.

More than half of Gaza's 2.3 million people are sheltering in this area, mainly cold and hungry in makeshift tents and public buildings.

"We are achieving our missions in Khan Younis, and we will also reach Rafah and eliminate terror elements that threaten us," Gallant said in a statement.

i and Egyptian mediators hoped for a positive response from Hamas to the first concrete proposal for an extended halt to fighting, agreed with Israel and the US at talks in Gay Paree last week.

A Paleostinian official close to the negotiations told Rooters the text envisages a first phase of 40 days, during which fighting would cease while Hamas freed remaining civilians among the more than 100 hostages it still holds. Further phases would see the handover of Israeli soldiers and bodies of dead hostages.
The Times of Israel adds:
Intensive fighting continued throughout the Gaza Strip Friday as Jerusalem and international actors awaited Hamas’s officials response to a proposed ceasefire and hostage release deal.

And with Saturday set to be the 120th day of the Israel-Hamas war, a new milestone was set this week as the conflict became Israel’s longest open war since 1948’s War of Independence. Though that war, at some 20 months, is unlikely to be surpassed, the war is now longer than the First Leb

War (1982; 116 days), and far longer than the Second Lebanon War (2006; 34 days), the Yom Kippur War (1973; 19 days) and the Six Day War (1967; six days).

There is no clear end in sight to the ongoing war, with Israel insisting that even should a deal be struck for a truce and the release of Israeli captives, such a pause would be temporary and the war will not end until Hamas is removed from power in the territory.

The Israel Defense Forces said Friday that troops killed dozens of Hamas button men in the Khan Younis area over the past day, raiding several Hamas sites in the area, seizing weapons and carrying out strikes on Hamas cells and buildings used by terror operatives.

Meanwhile,

in central Gazoo, the Navy carried out strikes along the Strip’s coast, aiding ground forces of the Nahal Brigade which is operating in the area, the IDF said.

In northern Gaza’s Shati camp, the IDF said the 401st Armored Brigade killed more than 10 button men over the past day.

Separately, in an unusual incident overnight, the IDF said the Iron Dome intercepted a "suspicious aerial target" that infiltrated Israeli airspace from Gaza. An alert had sounded on the Home Front Command’s mobile app in open areas, but not in any towns.

Meanwhile the IDF said troops fighting in Gaza had recovered documents detailing the use by Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

of mosques for terror purposes. According to a military statement, dozens of mosques across the Gaza Strip have arms dumps and tunnel entrances, and also serve as "operational gathering points." The IDF added that documents recently found in Khan Younis show the extent of Hamas’s influence on religious leaders in Gaza and "infiltration into local religious leadership positions with the intent of promoting hate speech, instigating violence and encouraging civilians to join terrorist groups.

"The exploitation of religious leaders and mosques by terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip for promoting terrorism, storing explosives and carrying out attacks represents the grave misuse of religious institutions for military operations, effectively turning worshipers into human shields," the statement charged.

The IDF also released footage and detailed recent operations carried out by the 99th Division in the central Gaza Strip. The division’s main objective is to hold a "corridor" splitting Gaza in two, preventing Hamas operatives and weaponry from crossing from the southern part of the Strip to its north.

In one operation, carried out by the 646th Reserve Paratroopers Brigade, the IDF said troops discovered a rocket manufacturing plant in the Nuseirat area. In another operation, reservists of the Yiftah Brigade raided a Hamas bank in central Gaza, where some NIS 100,000 in cash and intelligence documents were seized from an underground vault, according to the IDF.

The IDF said the division’s 179th Reserve Armored Brigade killed hundreds of Hamas button men in recent weeks, destroyed several major Hamas tunnels, seized weapons, and demolished the terror group’s sites.
A reminder:
Hamas and other terror factions are holding onto 132 of the 253 hostages taken on October 7 during the unprecedented shock onslaught, following a weeklong November truce deal that saw the release of 105 civilians, mostly women and children.

The IDF has said 29 of the 132 are dead, citing intelligence and findings obtained by troops operating in Gaza. One more person is listed as missing since October 7, and their fate is still unknown.

Hamas is also holding the bodies of fallen IDF soldiers Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin since 2014, as well as two Israeli civilians, Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed, who are both thought to be alive after entering the Strip of their own accord in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Strip's buildings have been destroyed or damaged in the Israel offensive in the densely populated Paleostinian enclave.
Everybody knows you don’t poke the bear.
Air strikes, shelling, and demolitions have razed entire city districts, including much civilian infrastructure.

"In total, a staggering 69,147 structures, equivalent to approximately 30% of the Gaza Strip's total structures, are affected," the United Nations Satellite Centre, UNOSAT, said.
1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, Intifada I, Intifada II, (those things in Lebanon were against Hezbollah, not the Palestinians, even if they’re all Iranian sock puppets together now) 2008, 2012, 2014, 2021, 2023...
It said 22,131 structures in the enclave have been identified as destroyed, with an additional 14,066 deemed severely damaged and 32,950 having sustained moderate damage.

UNOSAT used satellite imagery from Jan. 6-7, which it compared with six other sets of images, including some dating from before the Israeli offensive.

UNOSAT said that the regions of Gaza City and Khan Younis had experienced the most significant increase in damage since the previous analysis.

"Fighters of the battle team of the Yiftah Brigade raided Hamas safes in which 100 thousand NIS
...I haven’t checked the latest exchange rate, but last I looked that would be about US$25,000...
and documents testifying to the terrorist organization’s method of transferring funds were found," the IDF said in a statement.
More fun for Israel’s forensic accountants!
More than 20 bad boyz were potted over the last day in western Khan Yunis, the IDF said on Friday morning. Israeli forces targeted "a number of different terror targets and compounds" where rifles, grenades, bombs, military equipment, and ammunition were found.

"We are completing the mission in Khan Yunis, and we will reach Rafah as well, and eliminate every terrorist there who threatens to harm us," Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said on Thursday.

Ten thousand Hamas fighters have been killed and another 10,000 maimed, Gallant said, though the figures could not be independently verified. Before the war, Hamas had an estimated 30,000-40,000 fighters, meaning that if Gallant’s numbers are accurate, about half, or up to two-thirds, of Hamas had been taken off the battlefield.

Despite having reportedly killed or maimed 20,000 Hamas fighters, Israel’s military campaign has taken a devastating toll on Gaza. The Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry has said more than 25,000 people have been killed in Gaza, though that number does not differentiate between combatants and civilians.
Not to mention those Gazans killed by Hamas rockets that hit their own people, and Gazan bombs and bullets that did the same.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly said they will not stop the war until they achieve a complete victory. Israeli leaders have said their goal is to remove Hamas from power in Gaza and to demilitarize the U.S.-designated terrorist group. Simultaneously, Israeli leaders are trying to secure the release of the more than 100 people who remain hostages of Hamas, having been kidnapped during the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks.
Although how many still remain alive...

Roughly 1.7 million people, over 75% of the population, have been displaced, with all of them fleeing south, the U.N. said on Friday. During the start of their military operations back in October, the IDF urged Paleostinians to flee from northern Gaza to the south due to their operations, but they have not yet allowed Paleostinians to return north.

Earlier today, two rockets were fired from Lebanon at Kiryat Shmona, and a short while ago, one projectile was fired at the Mount Dov area.

The IDF says it is shelling the launch sites.

White House waited for GOOD WEATHER to launch strikes on Iraq and Syria to avoid 'unnecessary casualties': B-1 bombers flew from US and dropping 125 missiles on seven targets in 30 minute blitz deemed a 'success'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • The U.S. military launched major airstrikes on 85 targets in Iraq and Syria on Friday, in response to the January 28 deaths of three U.S. soldiers in Jordan

  • Joe Biden on Tuesday said he had already decided on the response to the Iranian-backed aggression: Iran warned the US not to attack its territory

  • Friday's strikes were authorized when it became apparent that there would be clear skies, to ensure precision in the bombing

The Pentagon unleashed its first wave of bombs on Iranian-backed militias on Friday because the clear skies provided an accurate target, with 85 targets being hit in Iraq and Syria during the course of a 30-minute raid.

Seven separate facilities - four in Syria and three in Iraq - were struck by the B1 bombers, which flew directly from the United States, refueling mid air.

Iraq was warned in advance, said John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council, but Iran - which supports and arms the militias - was not.
distinction without a difference.
Douglas Sims, the director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that the strikes were ordered because the weather was in their favor. The bombs can be dropped when there is cloud cover, but the U.S. waited until the skies were clear in 'an interest of ensuring that we're hitting all the right targets,' said Sims.

He said the U.S. was looking to avoid 'unnecessary casualties' - but they did expect militants in the seven facilities to have been killed.

Footage shared on social media showed a series of explosions in the city of Al-Qaim: the first explosions from the U.S. bombs, and then the secondary explosions from the munitions detonating. The mayor of Al-Qaim, Turki Al-Mahalawi, said the strikes hit three houses used as weapon warehouses by the PMU - al Hashed al Shabi, also known as the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU). The PMU is backed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and is believed by Washington to be responsible for many of the 165 attacks launched since October 7 on U.S. sites and personnel in the region.

Yahya Rasool, spokesperson of Iraq's Armed Forces, said the strikes were a 'violation of Iraqi sovereignty.'
Yes, that is the point.
'The city of Al-Qaim and the Iraqi border areas are being subjected to airstrikes by U.S. aircraft, at a time when Iraq is striving hard to ensure the stability of the region,' Rasool said, according to CNN.
Striving and failing. Hence the targets in your territory that were targetted.
Mick Mulroy, a former Pentagon official in the Trump administration, told The New York Times that the U.S. strikes appeared to be focused on Iranian supply lines, which pass through Iraq and Syria.

Mulroy said he believed it is unlikely many Iranian soldiers would have been killed because Iran had time to move its personnel out of harm's way - likely a deliberate move by the U.S. to avoid unnecessary escalation.

The New York Times reported that a site in the Iraqi city of Akashat was also hit, describing the target as a command headquarters of the PMU. The PMU is just part of a coalition of Iran-backed groups which call themselves the 'Axis of Resistance', and claim they are attacking U.S. targets in response to Washington's support for Israel's action in Gaza.

Joe Biden on Friday said that the airstrikes were just the beginning.

The operation was over in 30 minutes.

'Initial indications are we hit exactly what we meant to hit, with a number of secondary explosions associated with the ammunition and logistics locations,' Douglas Sims said.

'We know that there are militants that use these locations.

'We made these strikes tonight with an idea that there would likely be casualties associated with people inside those facilities.'

Senator Jack Reed, the chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said he endorsed the strikes.

'This was a strong, proportional response,' said Reed, a Democrat representing Rhode Island.

'In fact, the 85 targets struck tonight mark a greater number than the prior administration. Iran's proxy forces in Syria and Iraq have been dealt a significant blow, and Iranian-linked militias around the Middle East should understand that they, too, will be held accountable.'

#12  The great mystery here is why Joe Biden (and his puppet masters) are so afraid the give the Iranian Mad Mullahs the damn good whacking they so richly deserve. There must be some reason and almost certainly it has something to do with the fact that he is evil and corrupted. But what, exactly, is it?

#14  How about:
In exchange for a cease-fire, we will work to have a recognized Paleostine, but we need some fireworks to make it look good for us. Or, we can return in force and bomb the snot out of you and start a general conflict neither of us will win, but we will endure far better than you will.

US Air Force launches strikes on Syria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The United States has launched a military operation against Syria in response to a drone attack on a US base in northeast Jordan, ABC reported on February 2, citing unnamed officials.

Journalists did not disclose information about which specific areas of Syria were hit.

According to Al Hadath TV channel, US Air Force planes attacked the province of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria. The attack killed at least six people.

As Regnum reported, on February 1, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stressed that the United States will not tolerate attacks on its military personnel and will take all necessary measures to protect them, as well as to protect its interests in the Middle East. The Pentagon chief made this statement after the attack on an American military base in Jordan.

US authorities have approved a plan to strike Iranian military targets in Iraq and Syria in response to an attack on an American base in the Middle East, CBS reported on February 1. Sources say weather will be a determining factor in the attacks, as the military allegedly wants to avoid civilian casualties in low visibility conditions.

At the end of January, a drone attacked a US military base in northeastern Jordan. The US Department of Defense confirmed the death of three American servicemen, and dozens of people were injured. According to a CNN source, the drone was launched by Iranian-backed militants, and the attack was likely carried out from Syria.

More from RIA Novosti
Several people were killed in Syria as a result of US strikes

As a result of US strikes on the Syrian-Iraq border, several people were killed, reports the local Telegram channel Al Akhbar."

“Several people were killed and some were wounded during American aggression against a number of positions in the (Syrian – editor’s note) desert and on the Syrian-Iraqi border,” the message says.

Earlier, a source told RIA Novosti that drones struck positions of forces allied to the Syrian army in the province of Deir ez-Zor. The drones were likely launched from a US base at the Omar oil field in Deir ez-Zor. In addition, the agency's interlocutor added, warplanes attacked Damascus' allies near Ain Ali in the same province.

In addition, according to a RIA Novosti source, as a result of US shelling in the Al-Qaim region in western Iraq, a civilian was killed and another was injured. He added that the US target could be the headquarters of the operational command of the Shiite militia forces in Anbar province.

At the same time, as another interlocutor of the agency pointed out, a fire started at the American base at the Koniko gas field in eastern Syria after a rocket attack.

According to the US Central Command, US troops hit more than 85 targets, including the IRGC and associated groups. President Joe Biden has vowed to continue shelling in response to attacks on his forces in the region. In turn, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin threatened that “this is just the beginning.”

The White House added that the US army used 125 precision-guided projectiles in 30 minutes for the attack. However, they did not specify the number of dead and wounded as a result of the shelling, but called it “successful.”

In addition, the American administration assured that they warned Iraq in advance about the strikes. In a statement received by RIA Novosti, the representative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Yahya Abdullah, said that the shelling constitutes a violation of the country's sovereignty and undermines Baghdad's efforts to stabilize the situation, and also threatens Iraq and the entire region with unforeseen consequences.

Over the weekend, American troops at a base in Jordan were attacked by a drone. According to the Pentagon, three servicemen were killed and over 40 were injured. Washington blamed Iran, among others, for what happened.

The day before, CBS TV channel, citing government sources, reported that US authorities had approved a plan to strike Iranian military targets in Iraq and Syria. According to Politico, the Pentagon was considering several options: attacks on the Iranian Navy in the Persian Gulf, or on the Iranian military in Iraq or Syria.
