Spy Agencies of Neighbours Behind Afghan Insecurity: NDS
[Tolo News] Spy organizations related to some of Afghan neighbours are making efforts to increase insecurity in the regions that were recently transitioned to Afghan cops, a bigwig in Afghan intelligence said.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said that 15 myrmidons, including two Pak citizens have been jugged over the past week.

The two Pak citizens were appointed by Pakistain's Inter-Services Intelligence to carry out myrmidon attacks in Afghanistan, officials said.

It is believed that two Pak citizens had a key role in some of the deadliest myrmidon attacks that shook the capital Kabul.

"They have confessed during the investigations that they were attracted by a person named Hossain Ali, working at the level of a manager in ISI, and they were assigned to destroy Afghanistan's big establishments, including long bridges and power dams and government institutions," NDS Spokesman Lotfullah Mashal said.

Last week nine members of an myrmidon group along with their operation chiefs were jugged in western Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
province by Afghan cops, Mr Lotfullah Mashal said.

Earlier a video tape from Intercontinental Hotel's surveillance camera that captured the deadly overnight intercontinental attack showed that the assailants were receiving instructions by phone from their leaders in Pakistain.

Haqqani myrmidon network, which is active in the lawless tribal areas of Pakistain, is considered responsible for most of the deadliest attacks in Afghanistan.

Gaddafi Son Told Girlfriend: 'Lockerbie Was For Revenge'

Story of Mutassim Gaddafi's girlfriend's adventures in civil war Tripoli. Parts relevant to WoT below.
But beneath the playboy's fun-loving exterior was a sinsiter side she witnessed when he launched a scathing attack on a servant who delivered a cold mean and the forced him to sit in the corner and eat it all.

She said that Mutassim idolised leaders such as Adolf Hitler, Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro and longed for that kind of success. Instead, he spent his life in the shadow of his older brother, Saif, who many considered to be Gaddafi's heir.

Mutassim is believed to have once tried to overthrow his father but was exiled when he failed. He was given a role as a national security advisor but has been described by officials as 'not intellectually curious'.

Talitha said that he confirmed to her Libya's role in Lockerbie bombers which appear to have been done for revenge.

She said: 'I told him the victims were civilians, not military, and he said "Talitha, the Americans attacked our house in Libya and my father lost one child (a reference to the US bombing of Tripoli in 1986)." He was quite open about the Libyans doing it for revenge.'
GHWB's legalistic response to Lockerbie was based on the assumption that, in principle, both Libya and the US were governments fighting the 'crime of terrorism' by means of law enforcement.
In reality Megrahi obeyed Libyan law by executing the will of the Guide of the Revolution.

Talitha's last meeting with Mutassim was on the Friday before rebels attacked Tripoli. He left her to fight for his father and she left the country on a humanitarian ship to Malta on Friday.

Brutally Burned Gaddafi Nanny Discovered in Hannibal Gadaffi's Compound
Pictures of the nanny at the link. Not for the faint of heart!
As we were about to leave, one of the staff told us there was a nanny who worked for Hannibal Gadhafi who might speak to us. He said she'd been burnt by Hannibal's wife, Aline.

I thought he meant perhaps a cigarette stubbed out on her arm. Nothing prepared me for the moment I walked into the room to see Shweyga Mullah.

At first I thought she was wearing a hat and something over her face. Then the awful realization dawned that her entire scalp and face were covered in red wounds and scabs, a mosaic of injuries that rendered her face into a grotesque patchwork.

Even though the burns were inflicted three months ago, she was clearly still in considerable pain. But she told us her story calmly.

She'd been the nanny to Hannibal's little son and daughter.
I suggest WOT Politix for this article because it was Swiss intolerance for Gaddafi's slaver regime on Swiss territory that made Europe a target for Libyan jihad.

Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, Benjamin Barber and many, many others have enabled and supported this brutal slaver regime. Some did so for for decades. Hope they're proud!/sarc

African Union rattled by Gaddafi collapse in Libya
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] The toppling of Libyan strongman Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years...
by rebels has left the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
sidelined, members divided and anger high at a Western-led bombing campaign, analysts say.

The AU stands in a contradictory position: several African states have individually acknowledged the rebel National Transitional Council (NTC), but the pan-African bloc has shirked from recognition itself.

Misguided efforts for talks between the rebels and Qadaffy -- plans rejected by rebels and ignored by the West -- damaged the bloc's credibility, said Aloys Habimana, of Human Rights Watch
... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world...

"Failing to realize that Qadaffy's killings undermined his legitimacy and made him better suited for an international tribunal than for a negotiating table was a terrible mistake," Habimana said.

"The AU leadership was torn between the option of doing the right thing, and that of standing in solidarity with a prominent peer whose acts clearly stood in stark contrast to the AU's own principles and values," Habimana added.

Several African leaders may have been keenly aware of their own internal domestic divisions, avoiding discussion on revolution when they themselves are often decades-long serving presidents elected on shaky grounds.

Some leaders, such as Zim-bob-we's President Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Octogenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case...
, found allies in Qadaffy based on their anti-Western stance.

"The AU reacted quite slowly to the crisis for many reasons," said Paul-Simon Handy, from South Africa's Institute for Security Studies, noting Qadaffy had regularly contributed substantial funds to the AU.

"Not least was because some heads of state were embarrassed by their close personal relationship with Qadaffy," Handy added.

But it was Western air raids that infuriated many on the continent, who felt NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization....
attacks have gone "far beyond the spirit, if not the letter, of the UN Security Council resolution," said Tom Cargill, of Britannia's Chatham House.

"African leaders were infuriated by NATO's snub," Handy added. "They felt their advice and role had been entirely ignored."

"So often they have been pressurised by the international community to find African solutions to African problems," added Cargill.

"Yet when such a problem arises, the Western nations came in and sidelined them."

Instead of protecting civilians, the NATO raids are seen by many as effective regime change, "perceived as Western military intervention of neo-colonialist powers," Cargill added.

It raised anger even in governments whose roots lie in revolutionary change, who might otherwise be expected to welcome a popular rebellion by the Libyan people.

#1  The AU liked Uncle Muammar, whom AFAIK suppor the concepts of "Africans for Africans" + stable national Govts.

IMO, the AU is interpreting the chaos in Libya + the seeming end of the Gaddafi regime as a boon to AFRICA-WIDE, PROB ISLAMIST/RADICAL MUSLIM-LED MILITANT + TERROR GROUPS.

THE AU NOW FEARS THE RISE + SPREAD OF JIHAD = ETHNO-RELIGIOUS INSURGENCY, MILITANCY + TERROR, ETC, THROUGHOUT AFRICA.

Maoist chief rebel elected new Nepal PM
China just about has Nepal swallowed. Just needs a formal invitation...
KATMANDU: Nepal’s parliament elected the deputy leader of the former Maoist rebels as the new prime minister on Sunday, halting the Himalayan nation’s latest political crisis.

Baburam Bhattarai of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) received 340 votes in the 601-seat parliament with the backing of several smaller parties. That was more than the simple majority needed to be elected. Bhattarai’s only opponent, Ram Chandra Poudel of the Nepali Congress party, received 235 votes.

The political crisis was triggered by former Prime Minister Jhalnath Khanal’s resignation on Aug. 14 after he failed to make process in drafting a long-delayed constitution. It had taken Khanal 17 rounds of votes in parliament over seven months to be elected in February, while Bhattarai was selected in the first attempt.

Bhattarai, 57, is the second-highest leader of the Maoist group which fought government troops until 2006 demanding political reforms and an end to the centuries-old monarchy. Bhattarai remained in hiding during the 10 years of fighting.
Can't get elected PM if you previously died for the cause...
Bhattarai, who has a doctorate from Jawaharlal Nehru University in India, is believed to be the chief planner of the Maoists’ strategy, both during the years of fighting and in peacetime.

The Maoists were able to win the largest number of the seats in 2008 parliamentary elections and now are the largest political party in the country.

Bhattarai must now form a coalition government including members of the smaller parties that supported him in Sunday’s vote. The two other major parties, Nepali Congress and the Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist Leninist), have opted to stay out of the Maoist-led government.

Bhattarai’s major challenge will be to complete the peace process that began with the Maoists giving up their armed revolt. Thousands of former Maoist fighters are still confined to camps and are waiting for their future to be decided. There is disagreement among the major political parties on whether they should be integrated into the national army.
Ask Beijing...
The country’s constitution also needs to be written. The Constituent Assembly elected in 2008 had two years to finish the job. That has been extended twice, and the latest deadline is Aug. 31, which is likely to be extended again.

Pakistani officials doubt al Qaeda Numbah Two dead
[Dawn] Pak security officials expressed doubt on Sunday over reports from the United States that it had killed the al Qaeda second-in-command near the Afghan border.
"His pay packets are still being collected, so he must be still alive."
A senior US official said on Saturday that Atiyah abd al-Rahman had been killed in the northwest tribal area of Wazoo on August 22, without divulging the circumstances of his death.

However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
local officials in the region told AFP last week that a US drone strike in North Waziristan on that date had killed at least four jihad boys. It was not clear if the two incidents were connected.

A senior Pak security official in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar told AFP: "We have checked this news report with informers and have worked on it. I doubt the authenticity of this news."

Another security official in Miramshah, the main town in North Waziristan, said he had received no information on the killing.

"For me it is just a rumour. Frankly speaking, we are even not aware that a man with this name is working as deputy chief of al Qaeda," he added.

The officials said the remote, mountainous area, just four kilometres from the Afghan border, is inaccessible.

"In such cases we rely on information sent from informers. We have not received any type of such a report," the security official in Mir Ali town, North Waziristan, told AFP.

An Afghan Taliban capo in Pakistain's northwestern tribal region who is in regular contact with al Qaeda described the news report as fake.

"It is a fake story. It's not true," he told AFP from Qazi's guesthouse an undisclosed location.

According to US authorities, Rahman, who was in his late 30s and Libyan, was appointed by the late Osama bin Laden
... who is currently warming his feet by the fire with Hitler and Himmler...
and was al Qaeda's emissary in Iran, recruiting and facilitating talks with other Islamic groups.

He joined bin Laden in Afghanistan as a teenager in the 1980s to fight the Soviet Union.

Washington has called Pakistain's semi-autonomous northwest tribal region the global headquarters of al Qaeda, where Taliban and other al Qaeda-linked networks have rear bases from which they launch attacks on NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
forces in Afghanistan.

Although the United States does not publicly confirm drone attacks, its military and the CIA in Afghanistan are the only forces that deploy the unmanned Predator aircraft in the region.

Pak-Afghan cross-border attacks can damage relations: Gilani
[Dawn] Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani
... Pakistain's erstwhile current prime minister, whose occasional feats of mental gymnastics can be awe-inspiring ...
on Sunday said that the possibility of foreign elements involved in the situation in Bloody Karachi and Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
can not be ignored, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, the prime minister said that the Afghan government has been informed about the cross-border attack. He said that such attacks can severely damage relations and trust between the two countries.

Gilani said that the terrorism in Pakistain is a result of the Afghan war. He said that the security agencies were fulfilling their responsibilities well.

While talking about the abduction of Shahbaz Taseer, Gilani said that he will be visiting the Taseer family today and will help the provincial government in securing Taseer's release.

Investigation into killings makes no progress
[Dawn] While the authorities have lately launched targeted operations in strife-hit areas of the city to arrest culprits of the latest wave of violence, investigation into last month killings of over 300 people appears to have made little headway, it emerged on Saturday.

Sources in the law-enforcement agencies said that the hundreds of killings carried out mainly on ethnic lines were being treated as a routine matter, with the cases being investigated by the station house officer of the respective area.

No special team had been assigned the task of investigating the large-scale killings, the sources added.

According to official figures, 324 people were bumped off in the city in July in what is being described as the bloodiest month of this year. Dawn

SSP (west) Asif Ajaz Sheikh told that although investigation of the cases would be carried out by SHOs, interrogations of the suspects had already been conducted by joint investigation teams.

The sources said it was due to the weak investigation of cases that no one had been convicted by courts so far despite the fact that the former home minister and police authorities had made repeated claims over the recent years about the arrests of killers.

The SSP said that 25 suspects had been nabbed in the district west over the last couple of months.

They were picked up on different occasions. Some of them were caught red-handed while committing acts of arson and many others were rounded up during raids, he added.

Apart from the assassinations mostly carried out on ethnic grounds, last month also witnessed gun attacks on buses.

In Gulshan-i-Iqbal, a minibus of the D-7 route was hijacked and its five occupants were rubbed out.

In another incident, 10 passengers were killed in a gun attack on a bus of the 1-D route near Banaras.

Besides, several passengers were maimed in firing on minibuses and buses last month.

The official data shows a drastic increase in the killings in Bloody Karachi during the last couple of years.

According to official data, a total of 1,339 killings were reported in the city last year, while till Aug 25 this year the corpse count has already reached 1,421. During the preceding years of 2008 and 2009, the corpse count remained 777 and 801, respectively.

It is worth noting that intermittent waves of killings that began in 2008 in the city claimed most lives.

Victims from different backgrounds

People from different political groups, ethnic background, professions and ages were the victims of violence.

Even a six-year-old girl became a victim when a stray bullet pierced through her while she was at the door of her home in Mohammedanabad.

Nineteen coppers were bumped off in the city till July 31 despite the fact that they mostly stayed away from troubled spots by patrolling main roads.

During the seven months, at least 110 political activists, most of them belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement
...English: United National Movement, generally known as MQM, is the 3rd largest political party and the largest secular political party in Pakistain with particular strength in Sindh. From 1992 to 1999, the MQM was the target of the Pak Army's Operation Cleanup leaving thousands of urdu speaking civilians dead...
, were killed.

The data also showed 29 sectarian killings in the city during the same period. Sixteen activists of the Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistain, 11 Shias, one Deobandi and one Brailvi were bumped off.

The city also witnessed assassinations of four lawyers, two journalists, one diplomat, one doctor and one official of Pakistain Rangers and the excise department each.

A senior police officer said it seemed that diverse forces were simultaneously at work in the city, resulting in the killings on political, ethnic and sectarian grounds. Many common people who were not associated with any political, sectarian, ethnic group became the victims of violence.

Afghan envoy summoned after Chitral cross-border ambush
[Dawn] As tensions between Islamabad and Kabul spiked after the Chitral cross-border raid by Death Eaters from Afghanistan, the Afghan chargé d` affaires was summoned to the Foreign Office and told that such attacks would not be tolerated any further.

"The activities of the Death Eaters are a matter of great concern ... They cannot be allowed to continue such blatant attacks from across the border," the Afghan diplomat was told in a strongly worded protest.

The Chitral attack that left 25 security personnel dead was the latest in a series of attacks launched by Death Eaters having sanctuaries in Afghanistan`s Kunar and Nuristan provinces.

Afghan ambassador Umar Daudzai was earlier handed a demarche after a similar attack in June. But, officials regretted that the Afghan authorities did little to address Pakistain`s concerns. This aspect was particularly underscored in the latest protest.

MQM condemns Zulfiqar Mirza's statement
[Dawn] After a joint emergency meeting of MQM Rabita Committee of Pakistain and London, the MQM has condemned all the allegations leveled by Zulfiqar Mirza.

In a statement, MQM said that Zulfiqar Mirza is trying to fuel the fire of hate and agony in Sindh.

The Committee further said that charging Rehman Malik

Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure. He later joined the Pak Peoples Party and was chief security officer to Bhutto. Malik was tossed from his FIA job in 1998 after documenting the breath-taking corruption of the Sharif family. By unhappy coincidence Näwaz Shärif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men.
proved that Mirza is directly involved in Bloody Karachi killings.

The Rabita Committee said that President Asif Ali President Ten Percent Zardari

and the highest government officials should take notice of Zulfiqar Mirza's statement and state a clear position.

The Committee requested Party workers and public to remain calm.

Zulfiqar Mirza resigns from Sindh Assembly, blasts MQM
[Dawn] Senior Pakistain Peoples Party (PPP) leader and Sindh Senior Minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza on Sunday announced his resignation from his party post as vice president of PPP Sindh chapter as well as membership of the Sindh Assembly.

Addressing a crowded presser at the Bloody Karachi Press Club, he expressed serious reservations on
the policy of government about the law and order situation in Bloody Karachi.

He said he would continue to work as an ordinary party worker. He harshly criticized Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik
Pak politician, current Interior Minister under the Gilani administration. By unhappy coincidence Näwaz Shärif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men.
and termed him a compulsive liar and a threat to Pakistain's security.

He said he had already told his party leadership that Malik could not be relied upon. He said that only one person is responsible for all killings in Bloody Karachi and that person is Rehman Malik.

Mirza leveled serious allegations on Muttahida Quami Movement and its chief Altaf Hussain. He termed the MQM and its head responsible for murders in Bloody Karachi. He accused the Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad of patronizing hit mans.

He revealed that the police department was highly corrupt and that cop shoppes in Bloody Karachi are being auctioned to the highest bidders.

Zulfiqar Mirza alleged that during a meeting in London MQM chief Altaf Hussain had told him that America and world powers had decided to break up Pakistain and he (Altaf Hussain) had supported their idea.

Dupe URL: IDF ups troops in South after 'concrete' terror warning
IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen Benny Gantz ordered the bolstering of IDF forces near the southern Gaza Strip and along Israel's border with Egypt, because of a "concrete warning" that Islamic Jihad is planning a terror attack in the region.

The IDF Spokesman's Office said that details of the warning were transferred to Egyptian authorities.

The order came almost two weeks after eight people were killed in a three-stage terrorist attack along Israel’s border with Egypt.

Miqati Returns from Saudi without Meeting King Abdullah
[An Nahar] Prime Minister Najib Miqati returned to Beirut on Saturday after performing the Omra in Soddy Arabia where he also held talks with a number of Saudi officials, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.

The premier did not however meet with King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands #65;bdullah
... Fifth out of 37 sons of King Abdulaziz to ascend to the throne. He is, after his half-brothers Bandar and Musa'id, the third eldest of the living sons of Abdul Aziz ibn Saud. Abdullah's mother is from the Rashid clan, longtime rivals of the Saud. He has 6 sons and 15 daughters and about $20 billion. His youngest son is just seven years old...
.
Sources close to Miqati explained that his visit was aimed at performing the Omra, as is his habit at the end of the month of Ramadan.

His talks with Saudi officials were therefore not publicized, they added.

The sources also stated that the talks were "very positive".
Translation: A lot was said and nothing was promised.

Hizbullah Will Not Allow Government to Be Toppled
[An Nahar] Contacts are being held away from the media spotlight in an attempt to ease the government tensions over the electricity file, reported the Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper on Sunday.

Political sources warned that the dispute over the file may be the beginning of division among the March 8 forces
... the opposition to the Mar. 14th movement, consisting of Hizbullah and its allies, so-called in commemoration of their Mar. 8th, 2006 demonstration of strength in Beirut ...
-led government.

They stressed however that Hizbullah "will not allow the government to be toppled seeing as it represents its political base."

The party is therefore seeking to overcome the current crisis over the electricity file in a manner that would appease Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
leader MP Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
and Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Wally Jumblat
... Druze politician, head of the Progressive Socialist Party, who's been on every side in Leb at least four times. He'll sell you his friends for a dollar, but family comes higher because of shipping and handling...
.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter awoke groggily, his hand still stuck in the Ming vase...
informed sources told the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper in remarks published on Sunday that Jumblat's rejection of the electricity file is a political message to Aoun to halt his push for the adoption of proportional representation in the parliamentary elections electoral law.

They explained that the FPM leader is seeking to weaken Jumblat in his Chouf stronghold, which will alter the distribution of power in the Mount Leb region that has existed since the days of the Druze leader's father Kamal Jumblat.

Jumblat "will never abandon this historic equation that allowed for the representation of various sects" in the MP's parliamentary bloc, they added.

Should Aoun succeed, then the Druze leader will lose the Christian representation in the bloc, they noted.

Syria Rejects Arab League Statement, Slams 'Biased Language'
[An Nahar] Syria on Sunday rejected an Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
statement demanding an end to the bloodshed in the country as the organization's chief waited for a green light to travel to Damascus
...The City of Jasmin is the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the world. It has not always been inhabited by the same set of fascisti...
.
In a diplomatic note to the organization's secretariat seen by Agence La Belle France Presse, Syria said the statement amounted to "a clear violation ... of the principles of the vaporous Arab League charter and of the foundations of joint Arab action."

The Syrian delegation protested that the declaration was issued "despite the meeting having closed with an agreement that no statement would be published or statement made to the press."

The statement contained "unacceptable and biased language," the note said, adding Damascus would act as if it had never been published.

The Arab League announced a peace initiative aimed at solving the crisis in Syria where more than 2,000 people have been killed in anti-regime protests, to be delivered in person by its secretary general, Nabil al-Arabi.

The 22-member organization's foreign ministers at a meeting on Saturday night called in the statement for an "end to the spilling of blood and (for Syria) to follow the way of reason before it is too late."

They expressed their "concern faced with the grave developments on the Syrian scene which have claimed thousands of victims and maimed."

The foreign ministers also called for respecting "the right of the Syrian people to live in security and of their legitimate aspirations for political and social reforms."

Arabi said on Sunday that he was awaiting a Syrian invitation to travel to Damascus. "I'm waiting for the response of Syria's government," he told journalists in the Egyptian capital, adding he was ready to leave immediately.

Syrian opposition to take up arms against Assad regime
Leader of Revolutionary Council tells London-based As-Sharq al-Awsat that the only solution to regime's violence is armed uprising.

The leader of the Revolutionary Council of the Syrian Coordination Committees, Mohammad Rahhal, said in remarks published Sunday that the council took the decision to arm the Syrian revolution.

Since mid-March pro-democracy protests have engulfed most of Syria calling for political and economic reforms as well as for the ousting of Syrian president Bashir al-Assad.

"We made our decision to arm the revolution which will turn violent very soon because what we are being subjected to today is a global conspiracy that can only be faced by an armed uprising," he told the London-based As-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper.

Circumstances no longer allow dealing peacefully with the regime's "crimes," he added. "We will use whatever arms and rocks ... We will respond to the people's calls to arm the revolution," he said.

"Confronting this monster (the Syrian regime) now requires arms, especially after it has become clear to everyone that the world only supports the Syrian uprising through speeches," he added. Rahal lashed out some Arab regimes and described them as "cowards."

Assad's troops have harshly cracked down on protests against almost five decades of Baath Party rule, killing over 2,200 people and triggering a wide-scale international condemnation.
