-Lurid Crime Tales-
FOB Busted For Pedophilia
New York's financier to the billionaires, Jeffrey Epstein, 53, was arrested by Palm Beach County Police this week on the charge of soliciting a prostitute, a third degree felony. The probable cause affidavit for the arrest warrant filed by Palm Beach police, however, alleges some more serious acts. Epstein repeatedly paid young, and some underage girls, to come to his house, massage him and on a few occasions have sex with him, according to the affidavit.

Epstein, an acquaintance of former President Bill Clinton, is well-known for the millions he made investing with Bear Stearns and later on his own. His private residence is an eight-story mansion in Manhattan where he reportedly spent $10 million in renovations. He lent his private 727 jet for Clinton's 2002 trip to Africa and often donates large sums of money to private, scientific research.

According to a Palm Beach County Police probable cause affidavit, for more than two years, an acquaintance of Epstein and his assistant offered him girls as young as 14 to give Epstein massages in his Palm Beach home for between $200 and $350.

According to police, witnesses say that Epstein was naked for the massages and encouraged the girls to remove clothing as they rubbed his chest and back. The affidavit also says that on at least three occasions Epstein had sexual and digital intercourse with his "victims."

On one occasion, he paid an underage girl to engage in sex acts with his friend while he watched, according to the affidavit.

Throughout the encounters, states the affidavit, Epstein told the girls not to tell anyone their real age and to lie if asked.

Police say that a former houseman told them that Epstein received two massages every day while he was at his house in Palm Beach.

At one point, a 23-year-old woman was brought over to provide the massage but, according to a witness cited in the affidavit, Epstein turned her away because he thought she was too old.

Epstein's spokesman said he had no comment.

Opus Dei financier brutally executed
A BANKER who had been questioned over a huge corporate scandal was found murdered on Friday, having apparently been kidnapped coming home from a meeting of the Roman Catholic organisation Opus Dei. The body of Gianmario Roveraro, 70, had been chopped into pieces and hidden in a hut beneath a motorway bridge about 30km from Parma.
"Tell Luca dat Roveraro's gonna be at da choich. Da Don don't want him to make it home from da choich, know whudda mean?"
Police said three men had been charged over the crime but a limited confession by the alleged ringleader opened the way for a flood of speculation.
"Whaddya t'ink, Fat Tony?"
"I t'ink it musta been da Barzini clan. I'd know Pippo da Cheeseman's work anywhere!"
Mr Roveraro, a former Italian Olympic pole-vaulter, had been questioned in an inquiry into the collapse and fraudulent bankruptcy of the food and dairy conglomerate Parmalat, which is based in Parma. In 2003 Parmalat collapsed with E14billion in debt -- Europe's largest corporate failure.
"Whuddya mean, my dough's gone 'pfffft!'"
"Just what I said. Yer dough's gone 'pfffft!'"
"Cheese. Somebody's gonna get chopped inta pieces and left under a bridge for dat!"
"Youse said it, Pippo!"
Mr Roveraro, who had helped Parmalat to list its shares on the stock market a decade ago, was last seen on July 5 at a meeting in Milan of the secretive organisation Opus Dei. Italian media reported that he was closely linked with the arch-conservative movement. While some reports said Mr Roveraro was a "supernumerary" or member of Opus Dei, police have made no link between his disappearance and Opus Dei.
"Sorry, officers. We dunno nuttin'. Have youse asked at Bilderberg?"
"Dey sent us here."
The speed of the arrests suggested that police had already followed leads concerned with his financial activities. Noted for his reserve and discretion, Mr Roveraro once said in a rare statement about his Opus Dei involvement that it was was "not concerned with finance -- finance is not Catholic or masonic, it is just finance".
"Churches never go 'pfffft!' Well, maybe Episcopalians, but not real churches."
Luciano Garofano, the chief of the police squad that found the body, said: "We are dealing here with a particularly savage murder." The alleged ringleader of those arrested was Filippo Botteri, 43, described as a former financial consultant from Parma who allegedly had had dealings with Mr Roveraro.
"Into da paddy wagon wit' yez, Don Filippo!"
"I'm goin'. I'm goin'. Getcher mitts off da suit."
Police said he had confessed to the kidnap and murder but had refused to reveal a motive. He had told investigators he had suffered a memory loss: "Don't ask me any more questions, I don't remember a thing."
"Yeah. De entire contents of me head just went 'pfffft!'"
The news magazine Panorama headlined its report The Roveraro Code, saying the case involved "rivers of money, opaque interests and shady figures". Mr Roveraro was the founder of Akros Finanziaria, a financial services group.
"Hey! Who're youse callin' shady? We're legit business guys!"
"Oh, yeah? What kinda legit business?"
"We import olive oil!"
"This is Italy!"
The magistrates leading the inquiry said they were also looking into his interests in companies registered in Lugano and London and the collapse of an Austrian high-risk investment firm he had helped set up.
"Ludwig! Die möney! Sie ist alles gegangen..."
"Pffft?"
"Pffft."
On the day of his disappearance Mr Roveraro, who had grown-up children, told his wife, Silvana, he would be back at his Milan flat in the evening. Instead he telephoned to say he was abroad, in a "German-speaking country", and she would "soon have news". Alarmed by this behaviour, Ms Roveraro contacted police, who began an investigation. His business colleagues said they later received a suspicious request from him by fax, purportedly from Switzerland, asking them to release E1 million.
"Pippo! Roveraro wants a million euros!"
"Gone. All gone."
Police said they were investigating whether the kidnap gang had used sophisticated technology to make it appear that both the phone call and the money request had come from abroad when in fact the murdered banker had never left Parma. Pippo Corigliano, spokesman for Opus Dei in Italy, said: "We are close to the family at this time and we respect their grief. We are praying for Gianmario, whom God will surely reward for his goodness and kindness."
"Yeah. We're hopin' he wasn't in a lotta pain when he went."
"He was chopped into little pieces!"
The case has echoes of the death of Roberto Calvi, the Vatican-linked Milanese financier founded dead under Blackfriars Bridge in London in 1982 after his bank collapsed in a fraud scandal. His death was initially ruled to be suicide, but a murder inquiry was later opened and five people with mafia links are on trial in Rome for conspiring to kill him.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Ancient book of psalms unearthed from Irish bog
Archeologists in Ireland are treating the finding of an ancient book of psalms unearthed from bogland as a miracle. The book was discovered by a man digging peat from the bog with a backhoe. . . .

There's two sets of odds that make this discovery really way out," said Wallace. "First of all, it's unlikely that something this fragile could survive buried in a bog at all, and then for it to be unearthed and spotted before it was destroyed is incalculably more amazing."

The book has about 20 pages and experts believe it was written by monks between 800 and 1000 AD.

And now for the wierd part:

Painstakingly copied in Latin script, it was found open to a page describing Psalm 83, in which God hears complaints of other nations' attempts to wipe out the name of Israel.

Psalm 83:1-4 seems oddly appropriate to current events:

Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

Mere coincidence? Or something more?

Wikipedia Celebrates 750 Years Of American Independence
Not Scrappleface.
Wikipedia, the online, reader-edited encyclopedia, honored the 750th anniversary of American independence on July 25 with a special featured section on its main page Tuesday. "It would have been a major oversight to ignore this portentous anniversary," said Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, whose site now boasts over 4,300,000 articles in multiple languages, over one-quarter of which are in English, including 11,000 concerning popular toys of the 1980s alone. "At 750 years, the U.S. is by far the world's oldest surviving democracy, and is certainly deserving of our recognition," Wales said. "According to our database, that's 212 years older than the Eiffel Tower, 347 years older than the earliest-known woolly-mammoth fossil, and a full 493 years older than the microwave oven."

"In fact," added Wales, "at three-quarters of a millennium, the USA has been around almost as long as technology."

The commemorative page is one of the most detailed on the site, rivaling entries for Firefly and the Treaty Of Algeron for sheer length. Subheadings include "Origins Of Colonial Discontent," "Some Famous Guys In Wigs And Three-Cornered Hats," and "Christmastime In Gettysburg." It also features detailed maps of the original colonies—including Narnia, the central ice deserts, and Westeros—as well as profiles of famous American historical figures such as Benjamin Franklin, Special Agent Jack Bauer, and Samuel Adams who is also a defensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals.

"On July 25, 1256, delegates gathered at Comerica Park to sign the Declaration Of Independence, which rejected the rule of the British over its 15 coastal North American colonies," reads an excerpt from the entry. "Little did such founding fathers as George Washington, George Jefferson, and ***ERIC IS A FAG*** know that their small, querulous republic would later become the most powerful and prosperous nation in history, the Unified States Of America."

"All our lives, we are taught about the achievements of Washington, Jefferson, and FAG, but we seldom consider the factors and conditions that led them to risk everything for a republican cause," Wales said. "What was it really like to be a patriot in those times? How did the colonists' perception of democracy conform and contrast with our modern one? Did Betsy Ross, as legend has it, really have the biggest boobies in the New World? It's these types of questions I want Wikipedia to be a forum for, all at the click of a mouse."

The exhaustive entry also includes links to video clips of the First Thanksgiving, hosted by YouTube.

The special anniversary tribute refutes many myths about the period and American history. According to the entry, the American Revolution was in fact instigated by Chuck Norris, who incinerated the Stamp Act by looking at it, then roundhouse-kicked the entire British army into the Atlantic Ocean. A group of Massachusetts Minutemaids then unleashed the zombie-generating T-Virus on London, crippling the British economy and severely limiting its naval capabilities.

The entry also addresses several traditionally taboo subjects, such as the influence of LSD on the drafting of the Constitution and the role of funk-slaves in painting the White House black.

While other news and information websites chose to mark the anniversary in a muted fashion, if at all, Wikipedia gave it prominent emphasis over other important historical events from the same day, including the independence of the nation of Africa in 1847, the 1984 ascension of Constantine to Emperor of the Holy Roman Emperor, and the 1998 birth of Smokey, a calico cat belonging to Mark and Becky Rousch of Erie, PA.

Founder Wales, a closeted homosexual and hot-dog freak, according to his user-edited bio on the site, also hosted a symposium of amateur historians at the New School in New York on Saturday.

"The Revolution's main adversaries were the patriots and the people from Braveheart," said speaker Tim Capodice, who has edited hundreds of Wikipedia entries on subjects as diverse as Euclidian geometry and Ratfucking. "The patriots, being a rag-tag group of misfits, almost lost on several occasions. But after a string of military antics and a convoluted scheme involving chicken feathers and an inflatable woman, the British were eventually defeated despite a last-minute surge, by a score of 89-87."

Despite spirited discussions bloggers present later described as "eluminating" and "sweet," the symposium was cut short when differences of opinion among the panelists degenerated into personal insults and name-calling.

While Wikipedia's "American Inderpendance" page remains available to all site visitors, administrators have suspended additions and further edits to its content due to vandalism.

Africa Subsaharan
Mugabe blames West for Zimbabwe's woes
Bob blames THE MAN!!!
HARARE, Zimbabwe - President Robert Mugabe opened a new legislative year Tuesday with a speech to Parliament blaming economic problems on the U.S., Britain and other Western critics of his human rights record.

Zimbabwe is in a state of economic collapse, suffering from the world's highest inflation rate — more than 1,000 percent — and shortages of all basic goods. A quarter of its 16 million people has emigrated since 2000 and millions more are dependent on aid.

"My tribute goes to the gallant people of Zimbabwe for continuing to exhibit great fortitude despite the prevailing economic challenges which are orchestrated by the country's detractors," the 82-year-old president told legislators.
So please keep it up or else we'll have to shoot you...
The meltdown is widely blamed on the seizure of white-owned farms which began in 2000 and has been accompanied by a clampdown on the independent press, human rights groups and political opponents.

Mugabe said a national regulating authority would be established in the coming year to monitor electronic communications. Critics say the move will give the secret police extraordinary powers to intercept mail, e-mail, telephone or cell phone communications.

Mugabe said recent rains have raised hope for an "economic turnaround" and a revival of agriculture under new, black holders of land grants. A recent government report said only 40 percent had occupied their farms or small-scale plots, leaving millions of acres derelict and unproductive.
Farmin B. Hard on the comeback trail...
In what has become a ritual, Mugabe, who has ruled Zimbabwe since independence in 1980, blamed the country's woes on his foreign critics.

"We note with concern the continued imposition of illegal sanctions by the European Union and the United States of America at the behest of our erstwhile colonizers," Mugabe said, in reference to Britain.
See! It's THE MAN!!!
"We feel proud that we have defeated that strategy that was aimed at the collapse of our economy and the happening of regime change."
Inflation is down to 1000%!
The United States and the European Union have imposed travel bans and other targeted sanctions against Mugabe and members of his government.

Septuagenarian widow buys new 22-year-old boy-toy
DHAKA - A 70-year old Bangladeshi widow bought the hand of her 22-year old groom with cash money and costly gifts, creating a sensation in the local Muslim community, a media report said on Wednesday. The marriage bonds were tied in mosque in Jalla village in the sugarcane-growing district of Jamalpur in central Bangladesh, the Bengali language daily Ittefaq said. Hundreds of local residents gathered in the village on Tuesday to witness the wedding of Sundari Begum and Bakkar Fakir.

The groom’s family accepted Begum as the bride after she had given them 30,000 Bangladeshi taka, equivalent of 500 dollars, and some other valuable gifts, the newspaper said. Begum, mother of seven adult children from her first marriage, said she had fallen in love with the young man four years ago and was prepared to pay any price to win his hand.

Donor nations pledge $750 million for Haiti
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (Reuters) - International donors pledged $750 million on Tuesday to help fund impoverished Haiti's economic recovery efforts for the next fiscal year. Delegates from about 40 nations and financial institutions gathered in Port-au-Prince for a conference aimed at helping the turbulent and destitute Caribbean nation build social and economic stability.
Because as we all know it's just a lack of money that keeps Haiti from being the paradise of the Caribbean ...
Haiti's government had asked for $540 million in immediate donations as part of an overall request for $7 billion to pay for long-term efforts to improve security, build roads, improve health and agriculture and promote institutional reform in the poorest nation in the Americas.

The pledges for short-term funding were expected to clear the way for the newly elected government of President Rene Preval to submit a budget to parliament. The donor community pledged $1.3 billion in 2004 to help Haiti rebuild after an armed rebellion toppled the government of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, but the interim government that replaced Aristide complained that less than half that amount had actually been disbursed.
I'm surprised they got that much. It's all good money after bad.
Participants in this week's meeting included delegates from the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Union and the U.S. Agency for International Development. They planned to meet again over a fabulous tapas dinner in November in Madrid to consider long-term funding for Haiti.

#1  Is there some magic plan to restore Haiti to, um, well to bring Haiti into civilization?

If so, I haven't heard about it. Throwing money at this fine Carribean example of an African shithole of corruption doesn't make much sense.

The Dominican Republic, literally right next door, certainly does a better job of things - at least since 1961. In case they're looking for a blueprint to drain this swamp and make the money actually, you know, achieve something.

#3  I'll never understand why they didn't just go out in the garden, put the $750m in the Weber and put a match to it. At lease the heat produced from the burning would have been some return on investment.

#4  "Economic recovery" - doesn't that imply that the economy once functioned? If Haiti gets a working economy, it will be a first.

Europe
Women on guard
"We have to be realistic, many rapes have made summer Oslo unsafe," said Brit Opjordsmoen, leader of the DIXI resource center for rape victims.
"When we know rapists are loose in Oslo we must listen to what police say. They are right to advise women not to walk home alone after a night on the town," Opjordsmoen said.
Opjordsmoen finds it highly remarkable that Justice Minister Storberget contradicts police and advises women not to adjust their habits.
"Ideally we can all agree that girls should be able to walk freely everywhere without taking precautions but we must be realistic, society is not like this. Many girls are naive and we must be aware that many things can happen and we should take care, several rape attacks in a short time is unusual," Opjordsmoen said.
Opjordsmoen would like to see discount evening taxi fares for women, and meanwhile has plenty of advice for girls having a night out.
"Women should keep an eye on themselves and each other, walk home together or take a taxi, and avoid pirate taxis by all means. Toilets in shady neighborhoods should be avoided if alone and everyone should keep an eye on their drink so that no one can put something in it," Opjordsmoen said.
The DIXI center, which is financed by state and city funds, has figures that indicate that 85 percent of rapes are committed by someone the victim knows. The unusual thing about the Oslo rapes is that they are attacks by strangers on women returning from an evening out.
The rape center at Oslo's downtown emergency ward also notes a significant rise in the number of rapes and rape assaults by strangers, with rates twice as high as last summer.
Opjordsmoen notes that the numbers are likely higher than police believe, and knows personally of two recent assault rapes that have not been reported to police.
The DIXI center has had more than twice as many cases this July compared to last year, with most concerning young women between the ages of 15-25.

I suspect most these rapes are committed by muzzies, but the PC-encrusted Norwegian paper can't actually say that.

#1  Take all the Norweigan women, train them for a couple of years in Karate and quick-kill while in high school. Keep the physical training up after graduation, preferably until about age 75. Watch the rape rate drop to zero.

Of course, the muslim death rate would go up correspondingly.

Doing it throughout Europe would result in a reverse-diaspora.

40 die from heat wave in France
Haven't we been here before...
PARIS - Forty people have died in a heat wave that has gripped France for nearly two weeks, health officials said Tuesday. The government-run Health Institute said officials were to provide a detailed report on heat-related deaths Thursday.
To take caire of mon mere and mon pere would have...how you say...screwed up ze vacation.
Temperatures have been in the high 90s across much of the country, reaching the low 100s in some southern areas. The hot weather has revived memories of the deadly summer of 2003, when 15,000 people in France died from the heat.

Labor Minister Gerard Larches met with officials in the construction industry where employees often work long hours outdoors.
In France?
It doesn't help that some of the French doctors are out on strike again ...

#1  It's well established that cold weather kills far more people than hot weather. But then that wouldn't fit the Kyoto/AGM meme, so it's not news - aka agiprop peddling.

#2  Funny how, in the USA, this would be heaped on the doorstep of the federal government (think Katrina). In France, it's ho-hum, business as usual, 15,000 dead no problemo.

#3  Funny how, in the USA, this would be heaped on the doorstep of the federal government...

Not if a Dem was president, like during the Great Chicago Heat Wave of 1995. "In 1995 there were no uniform standards for determining a "heat related death," so officials had to develop them. Edmund Donoghue, Cook County's chief medical examiner, used state-of-the-art criteria to report 465 heat-related deaths for the heat wave week and 521 heat deaths for the month of July....But perhaps the best measure of heat deaths comes from another figure—the "excess death" rate—which counts the difference between the reported deaths and the typical deaths for a given time period. According to this measure, 739 Chicagoans above the norm died during the week of 14 to 20 July—which means that Donoghue had been conservative in his accounts."

Home Front: Politix
House Blocks Seizure of Legal Guns
The House voted Tuesday to prevent law enforcement officers from confiscating legally owned guns during a national disaster or emergency. Republican Rep. Bobby Jindal, the Louisiana lawmaker who sponsored the bill, said firearms seizures after Hurricane Katrina left residents unable to defend themselves. "Many of them were sitting in their homes without power, without water, without communication," he said. "It was literally impossible to pick up a phone and call 911."

The House voted 322-99 in support of the bill. Senators voted 84-16 earlier this month to include a similar prohibition in a homeland security funding bill. The limitation would apply to federal law enforcement or military officers, along with local police that receive federal funds.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, Dimmicrat-N.Y., repeatedly called the bill "insane." He and some Democrats said the bill might satisfy the gun lobby, but it would put people into more danger during already perilous disasters. "The streets of an American city immediately after a disaster are no place to abandon common sense," said Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, Dimmicrat-N.Y.
I suppose that makes sense in a Dhimmicratic sort of way ...
The Fraternal Order of Police endorsed the measure. In a letter to Jindal, National President Chuck Canterbury said law enforcement officials concentrate on search and rescue during major disasters, and breakdowns in communications and transportation can lengthen police response times to calls. "A law-abiding citizen who possesses a firearm lawfully represents no danger to law enforcement officers or any other first responder," Canterbury wrote. The National Rifle Association also supported the bill and has been asking police chiefs and mayors to pledge they will not forcibly disarm law-abiding citizens.

#4  NOTE This only applies to Federal agencies and local agencies that get funds sirectly from the Feds. In the absence of a local law to the contrary, local police may do as their local law allows. Change your local laws. This also does not, I believe, cover situations in which martial law has been declared, for obvious reasons.

Before The Gods Destroy, They Send Murtha On The Stump
Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), who has suspended his race to become majority leader in the event that the Democrats capture the House, plans to campaign in 41 races around the country where he said party leaders believe he can be helpful. This is a dramatic increase in activity for Murtha, who did not campaign for House candidates in 2004, according to his spokeswoman.

Helping Democratic candidates could pay dividends in a race for majority leader against Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.). Murtha says he thinks such a race is likely and told The Hill that if the election were held now Democrats would be catapulted into the majority. “If it was today, we’d win 50 seats,” he said, adding that Democratic strategists have assessed the field of competitive races in which they think he can help. “In 41 seats they think I can help,” he said. “They’ve got it narrowed.”

Murtha said he plans to campaign in all of them. He also said, “I’m going to where Nancy sends me,” referring to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). A Democratic aide with knowledge of House campaigns said the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has asked the entire Democratic caucus to travel to campaign events for all House Democratic candidates. Over the next several months, House Democrats will continue to refine and revise their strategy of sending members into certain districts, the aide added.

Well, then, I guess this will be the acid test: if those Democratic leaders are right, and Moonbat Murtha gives the Donks the boost they need, then we are all well and truly fucked. If he turns out to be the Kiss of Death for the candidates he stumps for, then it's the Donks who are fucked.

We will see.

#10  This is a clear indication that he DLC is drinking the Kool Aid. Murtha is not and won’t be a political asset outside the far left fever swamp. So they could send Murtha to places where he will play into the crowd but he really doesn’t move people to the left. I would hazard a guess that he moves more people to the right when he gets all spun up and spouting off.

#11  "Supporters of Murtha, however, argue that the war is the main reason Bush’s approval rating has slumped to around 40 percent, which has given Democrats a chance to capture otherwise Republican-leaning districts".

Hmmm…so if you had to guess, would the Democrats choose improved conditions or the status quo in Iraq before November? “Alienate swing voters”…I’d say that qualifies as an understatement.

#12  Please, voters in his district, take pity on him and the American public. It's obvious that this man is in a fairly advanced stage of dementia and really has no sound reasoning capacity left. Kindly elect any opponent to hold this seat and preserve some dignity for yourselves.

#14  I grew up in Western Pennsylvania. I grew up a Blue-Collar Democrat. I can tell you for sure that Murtha won't even carry his own neighborhood.

The only people who (possibly, maybe) hate traitors more than staunch Republicans are Blue-Collar Dems.

Clerics want no women aid workers in quake areas
Clerics in the NWFP want authorities to expel all women working for international relief agencies in earthquake-affected areas by the end of this month. The clerics accuse the women, including Pakistanis employed by foreign non-government organisations (NGOs), of dressing improperly, mixing with men and drinking alcohol. "We are not against the NGOs, but we are against them spreading obscenity in society and trying to weaken our faith by corrupting our women," Moazzam Ali Shah, head of Tehreek-e-Islaha Muashra, or Movement to Cleanse Society, said.
