Atlantic City's mayor turns up in rehab
Earlier story here.

Mayor Robert Levy, who's been missing for almost two weeks, is at home after leaving a Somerset County clinic known for treatment of substance abuse and mental health issues, his lawyer said Tuesday.

The revelation from attorney Edwin Jacobs came after a brief conference with a state judge who scheduled a Friday hearing to discuss a request by a city councilman to declare that the mayor had abandoned his office. Such a declaration would clear the way for the council president to take over as interim mayor.

Levy's lawyer told reporters the mayor checked himself into the Carrier Clinic in Belle Mead on either Sept. 26 or 27. The mayor was last seen in public on Sept. 26 when he signed several ordinances at City Hall. That was the same day city officials said the mayor told them he did not feel well, and would be absent for an unspecified time on medical leave.

Jacobs said the mayor has been home from the clinic since Thursday, but would not say what he was treated for. A phone message left at Levy's home was not returned. . . .

Councilman William "Speedy" Marsh met with his lawyer Tuesday and prepared to take office "immediately" should Levy's office become vacant, James Leonard, Marsh's private attorney, said.

"There's nothing in play that suggests that Levy is going to return," he said. "We are preparing for a smooth, swift and immediate transition that will allow Mr. Marsh to take over as mayor. There is a plan in place." . . .

Lindsay Talks Rehab, Recovery
Lindsay Lohan is fresh out of rehab and already back in the tabloids. In postrehab sitdowns with a pair of celebrity weeklies, Lohan called her time at Utah's Cirque Lodge treatment center a life-changing experience. "It made me look at myself and all of the people, places and things in my life in a different way," the 21-year-old star told OK! magazine.

To In Touch Weekly, she admitted it was hard for her to surrender to the program but ultimately rewarding. "It was really humbling for me, but I liked how I was treated as a normal person. I had to look out for myself."

Lohan said she is determined to keep the focus on her sobriety, while avoiding the pitfalls that first sent her down the path to self-destruction. "I hit rock bottom," she told OK! of the July arrest that immediately preceded her return to rehab. "Everything in my life came to a point where I had to make a decision; the arrest that night helped me come to a point where I had to make one."

Rape Epidemic Raises Trauma of Congo War

#1  Saw this article a few days ago and though of posting it. Definitely not for the faint-hearted. African men continue to set the standard for cretinism and barbarity. Islam has its hands full just trying to keep up with such savagery. Africa needs to sink until the bubbles stop coming up. It is truly the "Dark Continent".
Posted by: Zenster || 10/10/2007 13:36 Comments || Top||

#2  Sickening, but I hope it is a local phenomenon only. There are reports of very aggressive Rastafarians in the Caribbean, calling themselves Rastas and attracting gang wannabes. The predators target mostly willing tourists looking for a fling, but definitely something that needs to be contained. Islamic justice could appeal to brutalized African women, killing the adder only to get an asp.

Ummm ... no. In South Africa alone some ONE MILLION women and children are raped every year.

In South Africa, more than 1 million women and children are raped every year. (The London Times, October 14, 2004)

Each and every day in South Africa, at least 50 children are victims of rape. (South African Press Association, June 2005)

More than 90 percent of rape victims know their attackers. (South African Press Association, June 2005)

A young girl born in South Africa has a greater chance of being raped than of learning how to read. (BBC News, April 2002)

In South Africa, one in four girls faces the prospect of being raped before her 16th birthday, according to the child support group, Childline South Africa.

#5  An rumor that intercourse with a v*rg*n will cure AIDS has precipitated a horrendous increase in ch*ld rape as well.

961 Ch*ld Rapes A Day In South Africa

Shockingly, 40 children, some of them babies as young as six months old, are being raped by these depraved beasts every minute during every 24 hour day cycle. Very few of these perpetrators face prosecution under this government of criminals, for the criminals.

The above does not take into account the fact that many child and other rapes, are not being reported. Therefore, these rape statistics are only a fraction of what is actually taking place every day.

Adult rapes are far more prevelant and frequent, and those statistics will make shocking reading! However, according to the the SABC broadcasts and the press, there is very little crime in South Africa. They are in denial, just as Thabo Mbeki is in denial about the existence of Aids, claiming that he does not know anybody with Aids.

The tens of thousands of b@by-rapes now routinely taking place in South Africa are also caused by the ongoing claims of so-called "traditional healers" that raping v*rg*nal children would cure Aids-sufferers...
[emphasis added]

Posted by: Zenster || 10/10/2007 16:11 Comments || Top||

#6  Now, that is just South Africa. Continue to multiply these numbers across all of the sub-Saharan African nations and you have a rape epidemic so heinous as to defy imagination. As I mentioned, the average African male represents a level of barbarity that merits swift execution and little else. Sadly, although AIDS will soon kill off some 50% of Africa's population, far too many of those who perish will be raped women and not their attackers. It is far more difficult for a woman to transmit AIDS to a man than it is for men to similarly infect women.

Yemeni Clerics Warn: Christianity in Yemen Spreading
Yemeni clerics are warning that Christianity is spreading in the country and called on President 'Ali 'Abdallah 'Salih to stop this phenomenon, the Yemeni weekly Al-Ghad reported, according to UPI.

One hundred Muslim clerics convened in the capital, Sana'a, over the weekend. They claimed that approximately 2,000 Yemeni citizens from the old city of Sana'a have recently converted to Christianity as a result of the cooperation of the local citizens with foreigners in executing terror attacks. The clerics also warned of the spread of dangerous phenomena of deviations and sinful activities. They called on 'Salih to carry out his religious and moral responsibilities to stop these trends, which are caused by the spread of poverty and unemployment, the report added.

#2  They claimed that approximately 2,000 Yemeni citizens from the old city of Sana'a have recently converted to Christianity as a result of the cooperation of the local citizens with foreigners in executing terror attacks.

A bit OT :! my recalling of this is pretty limited, I read it in a french mag's short news, but right/shortly after 9/11, there was one kuwaiti who had converted to Christianity in response to the attacks, and had been jailed in result. Does anybody know about this, and what happened to this fellow? What is kuwait's policy regarding "apostate"?
Posted by: anonymous5089 || 10/10/2007 4:29 Comments || Top||

#3  Yeah. Leaving the Muslim religion is a crime in many countries. I mean, wtf, the Koran says it's punishable by death, that Kuwaiti guy is getting off easy. (sarcasm)
Posted by: gromky || 10/10/2007 5:27 Comments || Top||

#4  Does anyone else get the feeling that Islam's killing of apostates amounts to nothing less than human sacrifice? I'm rapidly heading towards that particular conclusion myself.
Posted by: Zenster || 10/10/2007 6:07 Comments || Top||

#5  I doubt 2000 conversions. Maybe from 1 to 2 Christians - the number of infidels has doubled!
Posted by: Spot || 10/10/2007 8:00 Comments || Top||

#6  That Moslem clerics in Yemen and practically everywhere else have their shorts in a bunch about apostates and conversions to Christianity may be an indication of how fragile Islam actually is. How many "believers" are slipping quietly away, in conversion to Christianity, or to just a superficial show of sufficient belief to keep the peace and quiet?

We can't really know for sure, since the death penalty for apostacy keeps converts and the less-than devout relatively silent. That threats like this must be wielded constantly to keep Moslems in line is pretty telling, though.
Posted by: Sgt. Mom || 10/10/2007 9:59 Comments || Top||

#7  A very dangerous phenomenon indeed. Christian converts won't fight for allan. They won't give their money to the mosque so the muslim clerics might have to do some honest work for a living. They will love their neighbors thereby tempting others to convert. Can't have that.

#10  If you actually read the Q'uran, it's hard to ignore the fact that it's a fractured, rambling tale with very little consistency or logic.

You are EXACTLY right, mojo. I've often said that the Koran isn't even good literature, let alone good theology. Disjointed and unrelated ramblings, convoluted stories, and internal inconsistencies permeate the whole thing.

Whether you agree with Judaism/Christianity or not, one has to admit that the Bible is a literary masterpiece. Read Ruth. Read the Psalms. Read Proverbs. Read the words of Christ in any of the gospels. The romans even declared "Never did any man speak like this man".

Caribbean-Latin America
Ex-Mexico Prez: Racists™ Stop Immigration
By DIEGO A. SANTOS Associated Press GhostWriter

NEW YORK (AP) - Former Mexican President Vicente Fox said Monday that the United States is letting Racism™ dictate its policies, especially when it comes to immigration.
"The Xenophobics™, the Racists™, those who feel they are a superior race ... they are deciding the future of this nation," he said, without naming names, in an interview with The Associated Press.

In his first interview to promote his new book, "Revolution of Hope," Fox applauded President Bush's desire to pass an immigration accord that would allow more Mexicans to work legally in the U.S.

But he criticized Bush for failing to pass the promised reform.

"There was always a reason for why it couldn't be done. 'It is not possible because of the elections.' He couldn't touch the topic because this election is very important, or because security was more important," Fox said.

"So, when are they going to finally address it? It needs to be resolved."

Fox said he hopes his new book, written in English, helps Americans understand the Mexican point of view on immigration.

"To be so repressive isn't democractic or free ... to be putting up fences, chasing Mexicans, that isn't right," Fox said. "The U.S. needs better answers than repression, weapons and violence."

Fox also talked about his sometimes rocky relationship with Bush, a man he calls a "windshield cowboy" in his book.

Both men had worked together as governors of influential agricultural states in Mexico and the U.S. They began their presidential terms in office nearly eight years ago with close relations, and Bush even made a visit to Fox's central Mexican ranch his first foreign trip as president in early 2001.

But they split ways on Iraq, after Fox refused to back the impending war.

"There are important differences between myself and President Bush, including the case of Iraq and other topics where we think and act differently," Fox said.

Fox also denied media and opposition allegations of illicit wealth that have arisen in Mexico, after a celebrity magazine published photos of his newly renovated ranch. He said the accusations were made "without any evidence."

"It's just yellow journalism," he said.

#4  Anyone in this country illegally should be considered a terrorist/spy and deported. If they are caught again, then execute them.

Start billing Mexico for every federal and state tax dollar that has been spent on them as well. If Mexico complains, tell them we'll annex 1 sq mile of their land per illegal from Mexico we find in this country.
Posted by: Silentbrick || 10/10/2007 11:04 Comments || Top||

#5  What a dumb$hit. Try sending 40 million Americans across the Mexican border illegally and see what happens. Fox is trying to deflect attention from a failed country, economy, and government. I don't really care what he thinks. Build the fence faster.
Posted by: JohnQC || 10/10/2007 11:13 Comments || Top||

#6  I don't know of any country that doesn't have immigration laws, most enforce them at the end of a machine gun. I know firsthand that it is a felony to be in mexico illegally. When you get to their border there are guys in army uniforms with .308 FN automatic rifles.

#7  Racist? Notice how many of the 'illegals' from Mexico are composed of persons of obvious pure Spanish blood? Notice how many of the 'illegals' from Mexico are composed of persons of "la sangre de los mestizos y indios"?

The unskilled, uneducated, unwanted of Mexico are far more victims of Mexican social racism and cultural elitism that keeps the wealth of Mexico in the hands of around 40 Mexican families and their retainers. Of course you an avoid the usual result of such behaviors, revolution or reform, by dumping same said 'victims' on the US.
Posted by: Procopius2k || 10/10/2007 11:38 Comments || Top||

#8  He can't come up with a logical argument so he calls us racists and xenophobes. This is the same thing as what I wrote yesterday in response to Senator Reid asking Rush Limbaugh for an apology over his "phony soldiers" remark. The Dhimmicrats, or in this case Fox, cannot win with logical arguments so they resort to lies, half truths, distortions, obfuscations and emotional appeals. When all else fails they will try to shout you down. The La Raza types and Mexican politicians never hesitate to play the race card but, typically, they ignore the very pertinent fact that the United States is the most racially diverse and racially tolerant nation on earth.

What does it mean to be a racist? Does it mean I hate brown people who are shorter than I am? Well, I don't so I guess I'm not a racist.

Does it mean I don't want San Diego to end up looking like Mexico City? That's what will happen if guys like Fox have their way. Well then, I guess I am a racist.

But I don't want San Diego to end up looking like Los Angeles or New York either not because they have too many short brown people but because they have too many people in general, too much pollution and too many cars just like Mexico City. So maybe I'm not a racist. Gee, I'm confused. But then, that's what Fox wants.

Fix your own country, Fox, before you start calling me names.

Georgia's former defense minister freed on bail, leaves country
Georgia's former defense minister was freed on a multimillion-dollar bail early Tuesday after retracting his accusations against the president and left the country, news reports said.

Irakly Okruashvili was arrested September 27, the day after he accused President Mikhail Saakashvili of a murder plot and corruption - allegations Saakashvili dismissed as "unpardonable lies." Okruashvili was charged with extortion, money-laundering and abuse of power. On Monday, Nika Gvaramia, Georgia's deputy chief prosecutor, said Okruashvili had retracted his accusations and admitted he made them for political purposes.

Taiwan set to unveil missiles at National Day parade
Taiwan will flex its military muscle Wednesday, showing off two home-grown missiles during a rare parade in a warning to China that it has the means to defend itself if required.

But Defence Minister Lee Tien-yu made it clear on the eve of the parade -- the first in 16 years -- that the island's first cruise missile, called Hsiung-feng 2E, will not be on display, after reported pressure from Taipei's ally Washington. The cruise missile's specifications are not available, but analysts say it has a range of at least 600 kilometres (372 miles) and could be launched from land bases or warships. If deployed, the weapon could potentially be used to strike military airports and missile bases in southeastern China and coastal cities such as Shanghai and Hong Kong, analysts say.

Under tight security at Wednesday's National Day parade, beginning at 0200 GMT, the Taiwanese military will roll out its advanced weaponry as fighter jets fly in formation and an elite squad of paratroopers land on Taipei's presidential office square using paragliders, if weather permits. "The display of military equipment is a kind of effective deterrent, so the Chinese communists will be aware that Taiwan is tough," Defence Minister Lee said last week.

The most eye-catching weaponry to be displayed will be the supersonic Hsiung-feng 3 (Brave Wind) ship-to-ship missile and the Tien Kung 3 (Sky Bow) anti-missile system.

Jane's Defence Weekly says the Hsiung-feng 3 can be fitted with a variety of guidance systems and function as an anti-ship, land attack or anti-radar missile. With a range of at least 130 kilometres, the Hsiung-feng 3 has been designed to counter the Russia-made SS-N-22 Sunburn bought by China, said Chang Li-teh, managing editor of the Taipei-based Defence Technology Monthly.

The development of Tien Kung 3 weaponry highlights Taiwan's efforts to develop its own anti-missile shield, known as the Anti-Tactical Ballistic Missile (ATBM) system.

European Parliament has over 4,500 lobbyists
The European Parliament (EP) announced on Tuesday that at present it has 4,570 accredited lobbyists, many of which are NGOs and pressure groups such as amnesty international. Trade associations, regions, cities and companies (for example British Airways) constitute the rest, according to an EP statement.

The EP is currently preparing a report on how EU institutions should deal with lobbyists, whereas it currently owns a "Code of Conduct" that says that lobbyists must clearly state who they represent when dealing with Members of the European Parliament and staff and refrain from offering any gifts. Early in 2007, the European Commission decided to set up a voluntary register, where lobbyists declare who they are and how they are funded.
The key word here being "voluntary".
Part of the problem is that there are no reliable figures on the number of lobbyists who work in Brussels. Estimates vary from between 15,000 to 20,000 people who are employed in that way, noted the EP statement.

Great White North
Canada: Ottawa floating idea of new subs, sources say
OTTAWA–The defence minister's office recently requested a briefing on how long it would take to introduce new submarines – a move that could set the stage for the replacement of the troubled Victoria-class boats, defence sources have told The Canadian Press.

At the same time, a key refit contract involving the compressed-air system aboard HMCS Victoria has been put on hold, an upgrade which left incomplete would mean the warship would not be able to fire torpedoes. Both actions raise questions about the future of the four glitch-plagued submarines that were purchased from Britain in 1998 under the former Liberal government and have yet to reach full operational status.
A good thing those 14-foot Jon-class surface vessels weren't retired.

In the briefing, which was reportedly delivered by senior officials last week to Peter MacKay's new deputy minister, the government was told it would take six years to bring new submarines completely up to snuff, starting from the moment of contract signing.
Six years? We're talking 'Canadian values' and defense spending, like, OK?
A second defence source said a more conservative estimate of the timeline would be up to eight years.
That's more like it.
A spokesperson for MacKay declined to give details of the briefing.

"The minister has no comment on the substance of briefings, which are often sensitive in nature," said Jay Paxton, the minister's press secretary. "The minister does view these subs as an important strategic asset for Canada."

The conjecture comes at a time when the Harper government is casting around for ways to bolster the country's sovereignty over the Arctic. The issue of the Far North is expected to figure prominently in next week's throne speech.

#1  If they are going to get new subs, they might as well spend the money and buy 4 to 5 of the new German AIP submarines. Those would give the Canadians a big boost in their submarine operations, and would provide some really good anti-submarine warfare training to the US fleet during joint operations.

Al Gore's Fans Make 2008 Draft Pitch

#1  Draftgore.com, which describes itself as a group of grass-roots Democrats, underwrote a full-page open letter to Al Gore in Wednesday's New York Times, imploring the former vice president to enter the presidential campaign. Monica Friedlander, founder and chair of Draftgore.com, said the timing of the $65,000 ad was a coincidence and not related to the prize.

$65k seems very low for a full-page political ad in the NYT. Isn't this the same discount rate MoveOn.org got from the NYT when they took out a full-pager to bash Gen. Petraeus?

4 Democrats skipping Michigan presidential primary
Four Democratic candidates on Tuesday formally decided not to participate in the Michigan presidential primary on January 15 because the nominating contest was being held too early, Michigan election officials said.

Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina -- the two top rivals to front-runner Sen. Hillary Clinton -- informed state officials they would not take part in the primary, said Kelly Chesney, a spokeswoman for the Michigan secretary of state. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware also informed the state they would not participate, she said.

Four other candidates -- Clinton, Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut, Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel -- had left their names on the ballot, although all the Democrats have pledged not to campaign in states that hold nominating contests early in violation of party rules.

Michigan and Florida have run afoul of the Democratic National Committee by moving their nomination contests to earlier dates that conflict with the party's calendar.

President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said that he would not take oath for his next term as president until the Supreme Court gave its verdict on the petitions filed against the presidential election.
"Nope. Nope. Ain't takin' no chances!"
Talking to ARY Television, President Musharraf said that the PPP had not voted for him in the election, despite an agreement. He said this reflected the PPP’s negative attitude, adding that their not resigning from the assemblies was a positive sign. He denied any split in the ruling PML and also denied any presidential or prime minister groups within the party.

Nawaz to leave for London: PML-N
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leaders have claimed that Nawaz Sharif is leaving for London within a week or two, BBC Urdu reported on Tuesday. According to the BBC, PML-N Chairman Raja Zafrul Haq has confirmed Sharif’s impending departure from Saudi Arabia and — according to other PMLN leaders — the Saudi government has no objection to his travelling to London. The BBC quoted PML-N sources as saying that Sharif has also received his passport from Saudi officials and would consider his return to Pakistan after reaching London.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas band presents Islamic rock for the faithful
Mojo, I liked the Earth Times headline better.
Khan Younis, Gaza Strip - "We are defenders of homeland, we don't care about troubles," sing the six bearded men standing in a former Israeli army position in the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis, now used by the Executive Force (EF) of the Hamas administration in the salient. This is the Defenders of the Homeland Band, which, since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, has been giving nightly concerts of Islamic songs and supplications, mainly for the benefit of EF officers now in charge of policing the Strip, but also for the prisoners Hamas holds in its jails. And it does so with only a digital audio mixer and a laptop computer.

"We do not use any instrument which violates the Islamic Sharia holy law," says Montasser Abdel Nabi, the band's director. "We use the computers to produce rhythmical drum sounds which are okay in Islamic terms," he adds.
"It's the da'wa of it all, see."
The band was formed one month after Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip and "is the first of its kind since it is an Islamic one and belongs to the Interior Ministry," Abdel Nabi notes. It is part of the "Committee of Direction and Guidance," formed when the EF was set up by the then-Hamas-led government in May 2006. As such, it participates in festivals organized by the Hamas administration, which has refused to recognize its dismissal by President Mahmoud Abbas after Hamas gunmen seized security control of the Gaza Strip in mid-June.

"We select songs that can inspire the youth and raise their willingness, and other songs that remind them of Allah and Islam," says Hussam Abu Abdo, 36, the first to join the band.
"The world exploded with a mighty crash, Israel fell into the sun..."
A sound engineer for a number of Islamic bands, he sings for Defenders of the Homeland and runs the audio console.
Such a hard-working young man. Always makes time for his Mom as well.
At a recent concert at the Khan Younis central police station, the band serenaded the crowd with "we are on our way to Jerusalem, Jerusalem, it is the time to come," while a man distributed to the crowd a book entitled "Provisions of the Faithful - Religious and Moral Instructions to the Palestinian Security and Police Officers." The tome, prepared by "a group of Palestine scholars," includes examples of how the Prophet Mohammed had dealt with incidents that could face the EF in their current work.

According to Abdel Nabi, the ministry also plans to form a theatre troup - "the theatre is the best way to deliver an idea to the people"- and the Executive Force is forming a marching band.
The mind reels.
As for the Defenders of the Homeland, there are plans to release video clips of some of their songs.

Anti-Muslim posters go up at George Washington University
Another sign of the general feeling against growing Islamist radicalism came to light on Monday here when anti-Muslim posters were found plastered on the walls of George Washington University, widely known as a liberal campus.

Campus police removed the posters and fliers as student bodies met to deplore the incident. One poster carried the photo of an Arab with a description of a “typical Muslim” as one who wears a “suicide vest,” carries a “hidden AK-47” and bears a “peg-leg for smuggling children and heroin”. According to press reports, the posters have upset the student body, which is hosting an “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week” later this month. Some students thought the posters might be a joke at the expense of the conservatives, as fine print at the bottom of one said: “Brought to you by Students for Conservativo-Fascism Awareness” — and a postscript recommending a BBC video on the politics of fear.

The Washington Post quoted a New York Muslim student Najah El Bash, a leader of the conservative Muslim Students Association, who said, “I was just really shocked that this sort of hatred exists on our campus. You never think this would come so close to home, from people you’re in classes with. It’s scary.”

University President Steven Knapp said in a statement, “There is no place for expressions of hatred on our campus.” He called the fliers reprehensible and said students of different faiths would be gathering this week for a community meal with Muslims during Ramazan. “This event speaks of our university’s commitment to global cultural understanding and respect,” he added.
Uhuh. Right. Gotcha. The posters are designed, printed, and distributed by the usual leftist goons. It even says so on the posters themselves, though in fine print. And Gooby, from the Muslim Students Association, he's just shocked as shocked can be that there's such sentiment on campus. It's almost like one of the lefties' tedious stunts didn't come off quite right, but don't worry because they'll blame it on the campus fascists.
Charles, of course, has more details.

What's even more funny about this event is that it was a hoax perpetrated by other lefty's in order to smear conservative clubs, I love how all these idiots don't highlight that little tidbit.
