Philippine mayor assassinated outside Manila airport
[National Post] A gunman attacked a Philippine mayor as he left the country's main airport on Friday along with crowds of Christmas travellers, killing him, his wife, a child and another man, authorities and witnesses said.

The gunman fired on Labangan Mayor Ukol Talumpa outside Terminal 3 at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport, named after President Benigno Aquino III's father, who was assassinated there 30 years ago. The terminal handles international and domestic flights, and is supposed to be a relatively well-guarded facility. Talumpa had arrived from Zamboanga del Sur, the southern province where Labangan is located.

There was no word on a possible motive, but violent attacks linked to political rivalries, family feuds and business disputes are common in the Philippines, and have left hundreds of people dead over the years. Talumpa himself had survived at least two earlier assassination attempts, according to local media reports.

The mayor and his wife were declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital along with a 1 1/2-year-old boy and a 25-year-old man, said the airport's general manager, Jose Angel Honrado.

Local radio reports said that the man was a nephew of the mayor, but that the boy was a bystander with no relation to Talumpa.

At least five other people were wounded, including a niece of the mayor and a 3-year-old girl who sustained a head wound, hospital authorities said.

An uncle of the dead boy, Felipe Lirasan, told DZMM radio that the child's family was staying at his home for Christmas. "Then this happened," he said, his voice breaking. "There is nothing that we can do."

D.C. Cop Indicted; Accused of Trying to Kill Wife
[NBCWASHINGTON] A D.C. police officer has been indicted following allegations he tried to kill his wife last month.

Officer Samson Lawrence has been charged with attempted first and second degree murder in connection with the Nov. 24 attack, Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks announced Friday.

According to court documents, Lawrence was trying to hang a projection TV in his home when he became angry that his wife didn't know where the screws to hang the project were. He allegedly grabbed a can of Lysol and sprayed his wife in the face every time she spoke.

The victim told police when she refused to make him something to eat, Lawrence began to push her.

Alsobrooks said the victim tried to leave the home, but was beaten with a metal light post as she lay on the floor. The second time she tried to escape, Lawrence allegedly held two knives to her face and throat.

She was eventually able to leave the home and call 911 at a neighbor's house. But by the time police arrived, the suspect had expeditiously departed at a goodly pace. He was taken into custody the next day, officials said.

Lawrence has also been charged with wearing and carrying a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure.

Nude Activists Get Married, Arrested At San Francisco City Hall
[SANFRANCISCO.CBSLOCAL] Two nude activists got married in front of the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
City Hall on Thursday and were promptly jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
and issued a citation.

Gypsy Taub and her groom, Jaymz Smith,
She calls him "Jiymmie."
stripped down for the naked wedding. "I want to get married, and, why not get naked for it," Smith said before the nuptials.
Because you're supposed to wait until the honeymoon?
Taub has become well-known at City Hall for her nude activism, having already been arrested several times for violating the city law against public nudity.
A garden-variety exhibitionist, eh?
She said she didn't expect to be treated any differently on the day of her nuptials.
Then why'd she do it?
"When I get naked and I'm not hurting anyone,
Give it another twenty years or so, Gypsy. When you show up naked and your dog tries to crawl under the bed you'll know you've arrived.
I'm more vulnerable being naked than in any other state," Taub said. "All of a sudden, 24 coppers show up and treat me as if I just murdered somebody."
Or like you'd showed up someplace in your birthday suit.
She began the wedding in a dress, but by the end of the ceremony, only had her bridal veil on.
Thinks her name should be "Gypsy Rose."
Taub and Smith were arrested following the ceremony for violating the public nudity law, but have since been released.
"G'won. Beat it! Get outta here! And take yer wedding dress wit' yez!"

Mandela Tribute Billboard Uses Picture Of Morgan Freeman
[BREITBART] Actor Morgan Freeman earned kudos for his portrayal of South African leader Nelson Mandela in the Clint Eastwood drama Invictus.

Perhaps Freeman's performance in the 2009 was too good as it lead to some confusion for an Indian-based billboard artist.
An owner of a billboard dedicated to Nelson Mandela was red-faced on Thursday after the discovery that a photo of actor Morgan Freeman was used instead of one of the anti-apartheid hero.

The billboard was erected on the side of a road in Coimbatore as part of memorials across India and the world to Mandela, who died on December 5.

#1  Worse would be my wife noticing an ad for a film documenting Mandela just days after plotting. "Horrible, he's not even cold yet!"

Yeah, I said, and that the movie was already made and kept on the shelf for his death.

Question: did it really take two weeks for anyone to notice the billboard was wrong? I'm holding an empty can of beans to my ear, I think its saying something.

This Week in Guns, December 21st, 2013

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

First is the curious case of prior service military Brandon Webb trading on his military service to get organizations like the NRA to sign off on even more restrictions to firearms sales and ownership on the premise that the compromises that the NRA makes are to "preserve rights". Webb wants to run for a spot on the NRA's board. The link goes to a graphic which shows Webb's commitment to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, which is, judging by his public pronouncements, non existent. Webb has written blog posts, one of which is featured at Rantburg.com on his views of adding even more restrictions to owning a firearms. Thanks to Sipsey Street Irregulars.

A California based federal judge has struck down California's ten day waiting period for purchasing a firearm, say the restriction was "baseless". No gun sex, please. California still has some of the worst firearms laws in the country. That was just one restriction struck down. Link via The Vulgar Curmudgeon.

Actor James Morrison (I know, who?) conflates gun owners with rapists in a series of tweets a few days ago. Said Morrison: "You can advocate for the well-regulated non-infringement of the right to keep and bear arms without being an insufferable and abusive prick." Talk about insufferable, arrogant pricks. Anyway, the actor backed down later saying he actually meant the false intimidation event with the nascent Moms Against Guns in Dallas a few week ago, swapping one lie for another. As if that makes it better.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were slightly lower, while rifle ammunition prices were mostly lower.

Africa Horn
UN Sends Helicopters to Evacuate Staff From South Sudan Base
[BUSINESSWEEK] The United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
sent four helicopters to evacuate staff from one of its bases in South Sudan's Jonglei state where two Indian peacekeepers and at least 20 non-combatants were killed yesterday in violence gripping the world's newest nation.

Fighting has spread since the Dec. 15 attack outside an army barracks in the capital, Juba, with the violence leaving as many as 500 people dead while at least 34,000 have sought shelter at UN compounds, according to information from the government and UN.

South Sudan's government lost control of Bor, the capital of Jonglei state, on Dec. 18 to a group linked to former Vice President Riek Machar, who was fired in July and is being hunted by security forces for staging a failed coup this week. While Machar denies that accusation, he's called for President Salva Kiir to step down because he's failed to unite the nation. The violence has heightened ethnic tensions, with Machar's Nuer group pitted against the Dinka people of Kiir.

Africa North
Updated: US military aircraft hit in Sudan. 4 Three wounded.
Rebel fire hit two U.S. military aircraft responding to the outbreak in violence in South Sudan on Saturday, wounding three U.S. service members and heavily damaging at least one of the aircraft, officials said. South Sudan blamed the attack on renegade troops in control of the breakaway region.

The U.S. military aircraft were heading to Bor, the capital of the state of Jonglei and scene of some of the nation's worst violence over the last week. One American service member was reported to be in critical condition. Officials said after the aircraft took incoming fire, they turned around and headed to Kampala, Uganda. From there the service members were flown on to Nairobi, Kenya for medical treatment, the officials said.
Where is the threat to our national security? Let them fight it out by themselves.
From Long Shore Journal:

At the request of the Department of State, the United States Africa Command, utilizing forces from Combined Joint Task Force -- Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), attempted to evacuate U.S. citizens from the town of Bor, South Sudan, today. As the aircraft, three CV-22 Ospreys, were approaching the town they were fired on by small arms fire by unknown forces. All three aircraft sustained damage during the engagement. Four service members onboard the aircraft were wounded during the engagement.

The damaged aircraft diverted to Entebbe, Uganda, where the wounded were transferred onboard a U.S. Air Force C-17 and flown to Nairobi, Kenya for medical treatment.

All four service members were treated and are in stable condition.

Ugandans don't understand homosexuality, says former Anglican bishop
[Washington Post] A Ugandan holy man who ministers to homosexuals has criticized the passage of a controversial law that imposes life imprisonment for homosexual acts.

Christopher Ssenyonjo, the former Anglican Bishop of West Buganda, said gay men have done nothing wrong and should not be punished. He spoke in a telephone interview Friday (Dec. 20), hours after politicians passed the law known as the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2009.

Lawmakers rejected an alternative proposal for a 14-year-sentence for those convicted of homosexual acts.

"People here don't understand what homosexuality is," Ssenyonjo said. "If they did, I don't think they would have allowed this law."

Ssenyonjo was defrocked 2002 for his ministry to gay men. According to the holy man, homosexuality is not a sin, but actions against it were being justified through Scriptures and culture.

"I think people need education on the issue," said Ssenyonjo.

The bill was first proposed in 2009, but had been shelved due to international pressure. President Barack Obama
I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody...
described the bill as "odious." It initially proposed death sentences for certain homosexual acts in cases where one of the sexual partners is a minor or is infected with the HIV virus that causes AIDS.

Saudi court upholds jail, lashes for Egyptian lawyer
[Al Ahram] A Saudi appeals court has upheld jail and lashes for an Egyptian lawyer whose arrest on drug trafficking charges last year sparked a row with Cairo, a newspaper said Thursday.

The five-year sentence and 300 lashes meted out by a Jeddah court against Ahmed al-Gizawi are now final, Okaz daily said, adding that the execution of the lashing sentence will begin "within a month."

The lashes are implemented at the rate of 50 per month.

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea Threatens To Strike South 'Without Notice'
[WASHINGTON.CBSLOCAL] Tensions between North and South Korea kicked up a notch after a threatening fax was sent from Pyongyang to Seoul on a special communications line between the two rival capitals.

In it, the North's National Defense Commission warned it could strike "without notice," reports South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.
Just another Sea of Fire™ fulmination.
The move came as conservative groups and North Korean defectors held rallies against Kim Jong-Un regime.

The protests were timed to coincide with the second anniversary of the death of his father, Kim Dear Leader Jong-Il
... hereditary dictator of North Korea. His definition of reunification isn't the same as the definition in Seoul...

The North Korean military condemned those rallies as an insult to the country's "highest dignity."

Kim Jong-Il recently ordered the execution of his uncle Jang Song-Thaek in order to consolidate his grip on power.

After the execution, South Korean President Park Geun-Hye ordered military leaders to revise plans to cope with the changing situation on the peninsula.

South Korea responded to the threat by sending its own message to Pyongyang vowing to "sternly react" to any provocation from the North.

Scandal-hit Turkey PM presses police purge

Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he was battling "a state within a state" and described the corruption probe, which comes ahead of crucial March polls, as a smear operation.

Great White North
Canada's supreme court strikes down anti-prostitution laws
[ABC.NET.AU] The Supreme Court in Canada has struck down key sections of a law that effectively criminalised prostitution by banning brothels and soliciting on the street.

The court voted nine to zero to overturn the restrictions, saying they heighten risks, and prevent people engaged in a risky activity from protecting themselves from harm.

The Canadian government had argued that hookers choose to accept those risks, however the court found that vulnerable people do not always choose to become hookers of their own accord.

This case was "not about whether prostitution should be legal or not," Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin said in the landmark decision.

Instead, she said, the justices ruled on "whether the laws Parliament has enacted on how prostitution may be carried out pass constitutional muster. I conclude that they do not."

"I would therefore make a suspended declaration of invalidity, returning the question of how to deal with prostitution to Parliament," she said.

She had an attorney represent her and they lost her case. She was guilty and the judge gave her a few hours jail time. When you go to jail, you are processed. Cavity searches are part of that process.

If you think she was treated improperly then you are advocating special treatment because everyone who goes to gets asked to spread em, and I'm not talking hands.

Five policemen arrested for gangraping teenager in Chandigarh
[DAWN] Five coppers have been tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
for allegedly gangraping a teenage schoolgirl in northern India, police said Friday.

The alleged sexual assault is the latest in a string of attacks reported in India since the fatal gang-rape of a student in Delhi a year ago shocked the nation and resulted in politicians passing tougher penalties for crimes against women.

The coppers in the city of Chandigarh were taken into custody after the 16-year-old told her younger sister about the alleged assaults.

"All five accused coppers have been arrested and further investigations are being carried out," police superintendent Sukhchain Singh Gill told AFP.

The victim was allegedly attacked by one of the policeman who was investigating a complaint she had lodged about domestic abuse by her alcoholic father, Gill said.

Later, the accused raped her at gunpoint along with four fellow coppers, police alleged.

Under the recently strengthened rape laws, the accused could face life in prison if found guilty.

Israel unmoved by reports that US, UK intelligence spied on Olmert, Barak in 2009
Israel has refused to issue an official reaction to the revelations made public by The Guardian on Friday regarding American and British surveillance of former prime minister Ehud Olmert and ex-defense minister Ehud Barak in 2009.

Unnamed officials in Jerusalem, however, told Channel 2 on Friday that they "did not fall off their chairs" when hearing the news, which was first reported by The Guardian and The New York Times, that British and American intelligence agents were tracking the emails of Olmert and Barak.

#2  Well, the Europeans and Brazilians and others always discuss Zero's transgressions in terms of "...and to make things better the United States must disarm in the face of all the Islamic and other totalitarian movements in the world..."

I suspect most Israelis a) know they can't afford US disarmament even if they don't like the shit Zero pulls, b) don't have strong emotional attachments to Russian or Pakistani totalitarianism or imperialism, and c) remember losing millions of people in the days before they were a country because (among many other reasons) "Gentlemen do not read each other's mail."

Zero's an asshole but gentlemen can go fuck themselves.

Olde Tyme Religion
Angels Have No Wings, Says Catholic 'Angelologist'
[An Nahar] Angels exist but do not have wings and are more like shards of light, at least according to a top Catholic Church "angelologist" who says the heavenly beings are now back in vogue thanks to New Age religions.
Then how do cherubs get around?
"I think there is a re-discovery of angels in Christianity," Father Renzo Lavatori told Agence La Belle France Presse on the sidelines of a conference on angels in a lavishly-frescoed Renaissance palace in Rome.

"You do not see angels so much as feel their presence," said Lavatori, adding: "They are a bit like sunlight that refracts on you through a crystal vase."

#2  Angels don't have bodies. So where do you put , see, or use wings when you don't even HAVE a body? They only exist where they ACT. They do not have bodies. Their wings are their Powers, not chicken parts.

They have six wings( powers ), not two. And you will probably never "see" an Angel anyway. And if you did, you probably wouldn't like it. There are nine species...eight of them won't bother with you anyway.Only the lowest even want to have anything to do with you.

Most angels find you a little disgusting....mudballs in a meatsack. Try not to get involved. ( you can thank me later).
