Stray Cats Enter Home, Attack Women, Boy
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) — Two stray cats attacked three people after they got into a house in North Platte. "I thought I had seen it all, but I have never seen anything like this," Chief of Police Martin Gutschenritter said Tuesday. A call for help Monday took animal control officer John Pettit to the home of Melissa Breva, Gutschenritter said. Breva told Pettit she had captured two cats in a bedroom.

"She said the cats had gotten into the house when the front door was open," Gutschenritter said, ...
"They meowed something about wanting to 'rock this town and rip this place apart'"
... then attacked two women who were visiting Breva. One, Wendy Holliday, suffered scratches, the chief said, and she was bitten on both ankles, both knees and on her left calf. . . .
She was hospitalized and treated for cat scratch fever.
Authorities want to find out who owned the cats. Under city ordinance, cats may run free ...
and strut right by with their tails in the air
... if they don't become nuisances.

Cops say suspect left his ID behind
BETTENDORF, Iowa -- A burglary suspect was arrested after he left behind a Corrections Department identification card he used to jimmy a lock, authorities said. Officers said they arrested Robert Alan Fry of Rock Island, Ill., after investigating the theft Tuesday of a plastic jug containing about $400 in change from an apartment in Bettendorf. They said they found Fry's Illinois Department of Corrections ID card at the apartment and arrested him Wednesday at a Bettendorf motel.
Easiest bust of the day
Fry, 43, was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference and was taken to the Scott County Jail, authorities said. Fry was released from the Illinois prison system in January, having served two years and three months of a 10-year sentence for a Rock Island County burglary. Inmates who are released but are without legal identification like a driver's license can receive a Corrections Department-issued ID card.

Anna Nicole Smith Murder Investigation?
One month later, it has still not been made public what killed Anna Nicole Smith, or exactly how she dies. There have been rumors and speculation and reports on Wednesday pointed to a homicide investigation. A report claimed that Bahamian officials visited South Florida, and held meetings at the state attorneys office's homicide division. It was reported that the meetings include Bahamian Police Commissioner Paul Farquharson, who is speaking with the Seminole Police on Anna Nicole Smith's death, according to The Miami Herald.

Reginald Ferguson, the Bahamian assistant commissioner of police for crimes, told the paper, "Our police chief is over there now with some of our investigators," adding that since Smith resided in the Bahamas at the time of her death, Bahamian authorities have a mutual interest in the case.

Meanwhile, the Broward Medical Examiner says it hopes to have a decision sometime next week on the official cause of Anna Nicole's death on Feb. 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.

Gay Socialites is reporting from a source close to the investigation claims that Anna Nicole Smith, just like her son Daniel, died of a lethal mix of drugs in her system. "The toxicology results show large amounts of Methadone in Anna Nicole Smith's system at the time of her death," the source told GaySocialites.com exclusively.
And who are we to doubt such a respected news source
"In addition to Methadone she had another drug that when mixed with Methadone could be deadly," the source added, according to the report. "Unlike Daniel, I'm told that Anna Nicole didn't mix an antidepressant with Methadone. Instead her results show Methadone and a pain killer similar to, if not, Demerol," the source said.
More on that exclusive here.

An earlier report cites new computer evidence from a hard drive that was in the same hotel room where Anna died. In an earlier report it was detailed that the wife of Anna's bodyguard, Big Moe, was on a computer near Anna's bedside shortly before she died. Sources say Big Moe's wife is not the focus of the police, but that there is information on the computer that has piqued the interest of cops. Law enforcement sources in Florida say that the computer is the reason the release of the autopsy report was delayed.

#3  I saw one video - taken from AN Smith's residence, by the owner - in which an obviously drugged Smith is seen with HK Stern. Stern is heard to ask her if she was reacting to "mushrooms." "Magic mushrooms" are found only in colder climates. HK Stern would have had to had knowledge of importation of these into the Bahamas. I'm suspicious.

Jury Recommends John Couey be Executed for Murder of 9-Year-Old Jessica Lunsford
Doesn't do the little girl any good, but it protects untold numbers of other little girls.

#1  A jury took just over an hour Wednesday to decide that John Evander Couey should be executed for the kidnapping, rape and murder of 9-year-old Jessica Lunsford.

What, did the Jury kick off the proceedings by taking a lunch hour I hope?

And I'm hoping the two who voted against his death did so because they thought he would suffer more in prison than "in heaven" where Couey says he will apologize to Jessica. I notice he's found religion all of a sudden.

And whatever happened to his trash relatives who had no clue whatsoever that he was raping a nine-year-old in the bedroom of the trailer he was sharing with them?

He tried to hide his actions at every opportunity, and there were a lot of them. He's not "mentally impaired" enough to get any mercy from me. I say he gets buried alive in a trash bag as well. With Jessica's purple dolphin.

#5  May God damn him to Hell and may we be smart enough to send him posthaste to that reward. I don't want this animal to live on death row for twenty years; I'd like to see him executed tomorrow. In the same way that he killed Jessica.

#6  Y'all know what a wimp I am about hurting people, but on this I feel very strongly: if a person is so broken he can't be fixed, and a danger to others, the best thing for all is to kill him quickly. Pedophiles can't be cured, neither can serial rapists and serial killers. No thinking necessary beyond that.

#7  It remains to be seen what will come of this. The current OH gov Strickland postponed 3 scheduled executions shortly after taking office. I think this gov is opposed to the death penalty.
From this article:
He [Strickland] promised to be deliberate but decisive, sensitive but not soft while reviewing death penalty cases.

Death penalty opponents in Southwest Ohio are delighted with Strickland. They're optimistic that he will "bring a more informed human touch" to the issue, said Sister Alice Gerdeman of Cincinnati, president of Ohioans to Stop Executions.

Strickland spent seven years counseling prison inmates, including some on death row. He's also a Methodist minister - and the United Methodist Church opposes the death penalty.

But to death penalty supporters, Strickland's actions are an ominous sign.

Of the 3 condemned men allowed to continue living by Strickland, I am most familiar with James J. Filiaggi, who ignored a protective court order, stalked his [ex?]wife and executed her in 1994. He has expressed no remorse. This man has lived 12 years too long.

#8  And I'm hoping the two who voted against his death did so because they thought he would suffer more in prison than "in heaven"

I can't believe that any jurors could find him guilty and NOT vote for the death penalty, unless they lied about their ability to impose the death penalty during selection. If this crime doesn't qualify one for capital punishment I don't want to know what does.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Court Sides With Tribes Over Arizona Wastewater Snow
It is all recycled wastewater on this planet, but I guess that the distance from wastewater to snow is a bit too close for comfort in this case.
A federal court agreed with 13 Southwest tribes that the use of recycled sewage water to make artificial snow on sacred land would violate the tribes’ religious freedom.

The San Francisco Peaks in the Coconino National Forest in Northern Arizona have long held religious significance to tribes in the Southwest. According to the Independent, Judge William A. Fletcher of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the ruling from January of 2006 by Judge Paul G. Rosenblatt.

Judge Fletcher was convinced by the argument presented to him that using treated sewage water to make artificial snow at the Arizona Snowbowl Ski Resort would pollute the mountain, as well as prevent the tribe members from practicing their religions.
Wouldn't the ski area be an affront to their religion, too? Just askin'.
Judge Fletcher stated that the U.S. Forest Service’s approval of the recycled sewage effluent on the peaks would violate the Religions Freedom Restoration Act and does not comply with the National Environmental Policy Act.

The law firm fighting the original ruling represented the Navajo nation, the Hopi Tribe, the Sierra Club and others.
Nice reach, and a friendly ear in the 9th Circus.
This is the first time that the RFRA has been used successfully to appeal a ruling.
And it won't be the last.
The Snowbowl resort is located on Humphreys Peak, the highest and most religious of the San Francisco Peaks. The court also decided in favor of the appeal, because the U.S. Forest Service failed to fully reveal the risks involved with humans ingesting the artificial snow.
And don't eat yellow snow. Hey, and what about the septic tanks at the lodge?

Brothel discounts 'matinee sex' for pensioners
A brothel in Germany hopes to capitalise on the growing number of pensioners interested in "matinee" sex by offering them a 50 percent discount during the afternoon hours. The "Pascha" in the western city of Cologne has introduced reduced rates for sex sessions for clients aged 66 and above – provided they can prove they are old enough. "All clients need to do is show us some proof of age," said a spokesman for the brothel's managing director Armin Lobscheid. "A 'normal session' costs 50 euros with us – and we're now paying 50 percent of that for these older guests." "We don't earn as much money, but we're establishing ourselves across a broader range of age groups," he added.

After testing the water with reductions for senior citizens once a week, the Pascha decided earlier this month to offer 50 percent off sex services between midday and 5 p.m every day. "There's been plenty of demand and people have certainly been taking advantage of the offer," the spokesman said. "Older folks are more active than you think."

The brothel's Web site is keen to stress this point. "Life begins at 66!" it says in an advert for its "senior citizens afternoon" next to a picture of a motorcycle rider.

Amsterdam to unveil Theo Van Gogh statue
The Amsterdam city district of Oost/Watergraafsmeer will be allowed to unveil a statue commemorating murdered filmmaker Theo van Gogh on Sunday.

The court threw out a request this morning from a local resident to ban the statue. The woman wanted to prevent the statue from being placed. A spokesperson for the Amsterdam court confirmed the decision this morning. The Amsterdam woman fears that the statue will lead to public disturbances. She also thinks that the city district did a poor job of informing local residents about the statue. The judge found that the woman was right on this point, but did not think this was grounds enough to prevent the placing of the statue.

The artwork to commemorate Van Gogh, who was murdered on 2 November 2004, is entitled "De Schreeuw" (The Scream) and will be placed in the Oosterpark. It is the work of Jeroen Henneman. One side of the statue depicts a screaming face, the other shows a closed mouth.

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka bans nude adverts
Sri Lanka has nood advertising to ban? Who knew?
Sri Lanka banned on Wednesday the use of naked or semi-naked models in advertising, saying it was seeking to protect those offended by public nudity. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced the ban through notices in Sinhalese-language newspapers, warning advertisers against the use of unclothed males or females. The ministry statement did not say what punishment offenders might face nor if the ban extended to paintings of nudes.

The notice also did not say whether the ministry would take action against foreign publications containing ads with naked or semi-naked models. The ministry was not immediately available to comment on the announcement, which came soon after Sri Lanka banned milk powder advertising in a bid to discourage the use of powdered milk and to boost fresh milk consumption.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Something about "W" you sure won't read or hear it in the media....
From Loretta, a deal old Alabama friend.

For those of you who didn't know it, Enterprise was my second home (Elba being the first) so this tragedy has affected me too. Below story regarding President Bush's trip there is very touching - and you sure won't read or hear it in the media....

There is a man at Ridgecrest Baptist Church here in Dothan who is an ABI officer. He got up last night and told us about having the honor of being paired with one of the secret service men who were with President Bush last Saturday in Enterprise. He said when they started walking through the rubble at the school they came upon four students waiting for the President. They were in an area where on the floor there was a emblem that read EHS Class of 65. When the President approached the students he asked which one of you are the president (I assume president of the student body)? One of of the girls kind of raised her hand and said I am then she hung her head and started to cry. President Bush wrapped his arms around her and the other three joined them. Barry, the ABI officer said President Bush started to cry and said "It's tough being the president isn't it." Barry said he talked with them a little longer. He said he was very close to the President but couldn't hear every word that was spoken, but he could tell that the President was quoting scripture.

After a while the President started walking again and said he wanted the emblem preserved whatever it took. The Mayor then spoke up and said they would take care of it and President Bush turned to him and said "I was speaking to the President." I bet that the Mayor closed his mouth then!!! and then President Bush said "by the way where are my children"? The four students who were lagging behind came running up to him and walked the rest of the way over to the church with him.

The media were sent to a different area Barry said. When President Bush got inside the church to meet with the families of those that had been killed the secret serviceman turned to Barry and said this is as far as we go. This is his time with them. Barry then asked him if the President was protected and the secret servicemen said yes, he is protected, but not by us. Barry could hardly contain himself as he was telling us this last night. He said he told the secret service man that he wished everyone could witness what he just did then they could see that the most powerful man in the United States was just another human being, a father, a comforter, a friend and had true compassion for these people.

However the media does not portrait that, big surprise! Of course I don't tell this story with the humility that Barry did because he was there, but I thought you might like to hear it.

#1  I don't agree with President Bush on a number of issues, some of which I feel very strongly about (think illegal immigration). I am, however, never without serious respect for the man because I think he does a very good job as President of representing the best of the American people. He understands the dignity of the office and acts accordingly. There have been other stories like this; they just never make it through the MSM filter.

One of the reasons I hated his predecessor so badly was because he so obviously had neither personal nor professional dignity. He was an embarrassment to the office of President and it almost made me literally sick to see him on television. I could never understand how America voted him into office; I would never have even shaken his hand. His Secret Service detail, who of necessity knew them intimately, despised him and his wife. I understand they feel much differently about the Bushes.

Yes, I disagree with Bush but I'm more grateful than I can say that we again have a man as President that honors the office. I don't give a damn what his political enemies say, he has carried the heavy burden of that office with courage and gentility. And yes, I'd be glad to shake Mr. Bush's hand.

#2  Seems to me like we got mostly dissidents, expats and asylum seekers from Iran. I think the environment there is so much more condusive to Islamists that most of them stayed. Sure there are a few asswads running around here, and I may be greviously mistaken, but every Iranian Ive ever met was very secular and modern in their thinking. In fact I can't ever remember meeting an Iranian that even mentioned religion.
