French air raids kill 40 fighters in Burkina Faso
[Aljazeera] French forces have killed dozens of fighters in Burkina Faso linked to deadly attacks this week in neighbouring Benin whose victims included a Frenchman, the army said.

The French-led Barkhane force in the Sahel region "engaged its air intelligence capacities to locate the armed group" responsible for the attacks, before carrying out air attacks that killed 40 fighters, the army’s general command said on Saturday.

The Frenchman had been among nine people killed this week in two attacks on park rangers in the W National Park, a wildlife reserve in Benin’s remote north bordering troubled Niger and Burkina Faso.

Two roadside bombs killed five park rangers, one park official, one soldier and a French trainer on Tuesday, according to a Beninese government toll.

Two days later, another park official was killed in an explosion.

France said on Thursday it had opened an investigation as a 50-year-old citizen was among those killed in a "terrorist attack" in the park.

African Parks, the organisation running the reserve, said the Frenchman had been a "chief law enforcement instructor" there.

Benin had long been one of the more stable countries in West Africa, where fighters from al-Qaeda and ISIL (ISIS) threaten Sahel countries, but it has experienced several recent attacks.

Criminal smuggling gangs also operate along its frontier.

Separation Or Purge? Sharing A Society With The Political Left Is Impossible
[Alt-Market] Of all the social drivers in history the concept of freedom is the most powerful and fascinating. There are many observable objective truths in the world and it’s always important to recognize them, but the idea of freedom is more rare because it is a universal SUBJECTIVE truth. Meaning, it exists inherently in the majority of individuals; we don’t learn it, we just know it instinctively. Most of us share the experience but there is no microscope or telescope in existence that can observe that experience. We just have to trust it, or perhaps, have faith.

Freedom is not taught to us, we are born with the idea already hardwired. If anything, it has to be conditioned out of us.

We can see the aftereffects of the human experience of freedom in the great upheavals that occur when our societies become too rigid, too controlled and too authoritarian. Some will argue that tyrants have no concept of freedom and this debunks the notion that it’s an inherent psychological quality, but this is a misconception. Many tyrants love freedom, but only for themselves. Like an obsessive compulsive, when the average authoritarian sees free movement within the rest of society all he sees is chaos that needs to be micro-managed. He is so mentally unhinged by the existence of independent activity that he is compelled to crush it and impose his brand of "order."

If you want to understand the thinking process of the political left today, this is where you need to start. They believe only certain special people deserve to have freedom (or deserve to live), and they are of course part of that group. The rest of us can’t be trusted with freedom because we "think the wrong way," and so we need to be corralled and fenced in.

This is not to say that some structure within society is wrong, it can be a good thing, but not when it is imposed by an elitist minority of psychopathic people. There will never be any justice within such a system, no fairness and no true progress. Authoritarianism is the opposite of progress; it is the antithesis, and yet these people call themselves "progressives."

Freedom requires boldness and courage because it demands personal responsibility. When you are free to make your own decisions you are also free to fail, and only you can be blamed for your own failures. This is a terrifying notion for most leftists and collectivists because they believe that they are owed a positive outcome regardless of their actions or merit. They believe it is their "right" to be taken care of by others if they are incapable of taking care of themselves, but this is not equality, this is "equity." This is stealing wealth and opportunity from more worthy people in order to artificially inflate others that put in little or no effort.

Meritocracy is the most equal system in existence because it is freedom based; equality of opportunity is the epitome of fairness; equity of outcome is the epitome of injustice.

Raytheon says it is a 'target' of a DOJ probe into industry hiring practices
Feb 11 (Reuters) - Raytheon Technologies Corp (RTX.N) said it is a target of a U.S. Department of Justice investigation into hiring practices in the aerospace industry, the U.S. aerospace and defense firm said in a filing on Friday.

No criminal charge has been filed against the company or its affiliates, the company added.
This unfortunate affair can obviously be handled out of court. Massive new contract extensions will soften the blow. It's a little game we play where both sides win.
Raytheon had received a subpoena in late 2019 focused on alleged hiring restrictions between Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of Raytheon, and some of its suppliers of outsourced engineering services. It also included requests regarding Collins Aerospace.

A former Pratt & Whitney employee and some other employees of outsourced engineering suppliers were charged in December for restricting the hiring and recruiting of engineers and skilled laborers in a way that violated antitrust laws.
Only the unqualified and WOKE certified need apply.
"Raytheon Technologies is committed to complying with applicable state and federal laws and is cooperating fully with the government's inquiry," the company said in a statement.

Biden Admin Urges Court Not To Allow Release Of 'Secret Report' On Dominion Voting Machines
[Epoch Times via ZH] Top officials at a U.S. federal cybersecurity agency are urging a judge not to authorize at this time the release of a report that analyzes Dominion Voting Systems equipment in Georgia, arguing doing so could assist hackers trying to "undermine election security."

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) was recently provided an unredacted copy of the report, which was prepared by J. Alex Halderman, director of the University of Michigan Center for Computer Security and Society.

The report discusses "potential vulnerabilities in Dominion ImageCast X ballot marking devices," or electronic voting devices, according to the government.

While CISA supports public disclosure of any vulnerabilities and associated mitigation measures with election equipment, allowing the release of the report at this point "increases the risk that malicious actors may be able to exploit any vulnerabilities and threaten election security," government lawyers said in a Feb. 10 filing in the case.

The case was brought in 2017 by good-government groups and voters who say the lack of paper ballots undermines the voting process.

U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg, an Obama nominee overseeing the case, was urged by CISA to reject attempts to release a redacted version of Halderman’s report for now.

CISA officials want to review the information in the report and help Dominion resolve the vulnerabilities identified before the report is released. They said they weren’t able to provide a date by which they’ll be finished.

Totenberg must weigh the request against the wishes of Georgia Secretary State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican and one of the defendants, who called in late January for the release to happen immediately.

John Poulos, Dominion’s CEO and president, said in a statement released by Raffensperger’s office that Halderman’s review lacked "a holistic approach," adding that Dominion "supports all efforts to bring real facts and evidence forward to defend the integrity of our machines and the credibility of Georgia’s elections."

Plaintiffs, including the Coalition for Good Governance, also support the release of the report, David Cross, one of their lawyers, confirmed to The Epoch Times.

The plaintiffs said in a filing before a copy was sent to CISA that the agency should get a copy and begin its evaluation process, but that the evaluation "should not unreasonably delay the public disclosure of the report, which must be promptly disclosed to Georgia state and county election officials, and filed on the public docket, so that public officials can secure the upcoming May primary elections."

They asked Totenberg to order them to file a redacted version of the report on the docket, which would make it accessible to the public, no later than March 4.

#2
Follow the Biden DOJ/DNC logic here:

"...doing so could assist hackers trying to "undermine election security."

So hasn't the DOJ inadvertently just told us the Dominion System Backdoor still exists and has not been secured yet, after almost 2 years, as we now come into Mid-terms?

So why hasn't this admittedly long known security hole been secured yet?

Plus, how can we be sure it is NOT used in 2022/2023?
Seriously does anybody TRUST the government workers with voter tabulation right now?

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS:
Given the DOJ's own release challenges to the admitted Dominion System Backdoor?
Hasn't the DOJ itself now presented additional grounds for challenging the 2020 National Election integrity? Or, should we conclude the far-fetched idea, that somehow 100's of State / County / City level election workers across the USA all figure out how to use the Dominion System Backdoor hole for criminal manipulation of conduct vote tabulation individually?

BTW: What about the lawsuits that Dominion System has ongoing against multiple persons. Could these persons now demand the Hack evidence for their defense and COUNTER-LAWSUITS?

AP - For Black women, hopes and dreams rest on Biden court choice
NEW YORK (AP) — When the pressure gets intense, law student Jasmine Marchbanks-Owens likes to wander the hallways of Howard University, examining the faded, framed photos of prominent Black graduates of decades past.
Howard Uni - proud new home of Nikole "1619" Hannah-Jones
"It’s just really inspiring to be able to see people that look like me that attended this university and became attorneys," says the first-year student, whose great-great grandmother was born into slavery. "So, when I get stressed out, I like to walk down here and look at all the names and see all the faces."

Most of the faces are men. But Marchbanks-Owens stops by the photo of one prominent woman, Pauli Murray, a 1944 graduate whose legal theories influenced the landmark school desegregation case Brown vs. Board of Education, argued by future Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall. In 1971, Murray also wrote then-President Richard Nixon, mostly tongue in cheek, to suggest Nixon make her the first woman on the high court.

Old Baltimore Social Security Administration building becomes field morgue
[Baltimore Banner] The Baltimore County funeral director worried more with each passing day. The morgue still hadn’t released the young woman’s body for cremation.
I blame FEMA body snatchers and computerized toe tag discrepancies.
Her father wanted to see her, just to say goodbye. But nature was already at work. A body refrigerated below 40 degrees can show signs of decomposition after one week.

The funeral director called the morgue every two days. Always the same answer: "Not on today’s schedule."
Please be patient. The experiments and tissue harvesting are not yet completed.
More than 200 bodies are awaiting autopsies by doctors at Maryland’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the agency located in downtown Baltimore responsible for investigating deaths statewide. The unprecedented backlog is growing by the day and filling up the morgue refrigerators. Local funeral directors say it’s also worsening the anguish for grieving families, some of whom have been forced to postpone funerals and missed the chance to say goodbye to a loved one.
We anticipate a full release shortly after the midterm election.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
DC's Met Police exonerate their own for beating an unconscious woman to death
[American Thinker] Last year, without even bothering to interview him, the Capitol Police instantly exonerated Lt. Michael Byrd, the man who shot an unarmed Ashli Babbitt in cold blood. Now we've learned that the Washington, D.C. police force's Bureau of Internal Affairs has exonerated a police officer who beat an unconscious woman to death. You know, as I do, that if the two dead women had been Black leftists, instead of White Trump supporters, the outcome of these two investigations would have been very different.

American Thinker has already covered the travesty of Byrd's exoneration, so I won't return to that subject. This post concerns the death of Rosanne Boyland of Kennesaw, Georgia. As you may recall, when the media first reported on her death, they stated that she died of an amphetamine overdose, implying that she was a junkie. Meanwhile, D.C. refused to give her family the autopsy results. Even Vanity Fair, which did manage to get a copy of the autopsy results, eventually conceded that the finding was later clarified to say she died of an "accidental" Adderall overdose, again implying a drug problem. In fact, according to her father, Boyland has safely taken the prescription medicine for a decade.

However, the autopsy seems to have left out something interesting: a Metro police officer brutally beat Boyland with both a steel baton and a large wooden stick:

15 Police Officers Shot in Last 24 Hours Including 9 in Phoenix
[PJ] Since the first of the year, 55 U.S. police officers have been shot in the line of duty, with five killed. "Enough is enough!" National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President Patrick Yoes said in a statement.

According to CNN, 15 officers have been wounded in the last 24 hours, including nine officers in Phoenix. The incident in Phoenix involved police responding to an emergency call of a woman who had been shot. When a police officer arrived, a man invited him inside, only to turn his gun on him and open fire. The injured officer limped away and called for backup.

#1  NYP - Teen brothers held without bail in shooting of off-duty NYPD housing cop

Two teen brothers with a raft of prior arrests were ordered held without bail Saturday in the shooting of an off-duty police officer who was attending a memorial service in West Harlem.

Paris Francis, 17, and Prince Francis, 16, of Manhattanville, were in Manhattan Criminal Court to face the music following their Thursday arrests.

Paris Francis is alleged to be the triggerman in the Feb. 5 shooting of veteran policer officer Robert Manley, prosecutors said.

Manley, an off-duty NYPD housing cop, was shot in the foot about 4:30 p.m. after he attended a memorial service for a community member at the Manhattanville Houses in West Harlem.

The Francis brothers were caught on video in the area of the shooting and the footage shows Paris, dressed in a black jacket with a Canada Goose logo on the left arm, with the gun, prosecutors said in court.

#2  Phoenix perp is a trafficker of not just drugs but also illegal immigrants. Thank you, Brandon.

Federal court records show Jones has a criminal history dating back to at least 2007, when he was sentenced in Oklahoma to seven years in prison for using a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and possessing a fire arm after a felony conviction.

Records also show Jones pleaded guilty in March 2020 to conspiring to transport, for profit, people who were in the country illegally near the San Simmons area in southeastern Arizona. He was sentenced to three years of probation.

Bill Maher Says Trudeau Sounds Like Hitler, and He's Right
[PJ] "The gradual red pilling of Bill Maher has been something to watch over the last few years," Stacey Lennox wrote recently, and Matt Margolis noted that "his rants are important, because even he is embarrassed by the radical elements of his party, and he’s not afraid to call them out." On Friday, Maher also called out Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, reading aloud comments Trudeau made about unvaccinated people and excoriating the feckless Canadian leader’s authoritarianism, even likening him to Adolf Hitler. But unlike the Left’s comparisons of virtually every dissenter from their agenda, especially Donald Trump, to Hitler, Maher actually had a point.

Trudeau, according to Maher, "said — this is a couple of weeks ago, he was — or maybe this is September, but he was talking about people who were not vaccinated. He said, ’They don’t believe in science, they’re often misogynistic, often racist.’ No, they’re not. He said, ’But they take up space and with that, we have to make a choice in terms of a leader of a country: do we tolerate these people?’"

Clashes break out between Jews, Arabs, police in Sheikh Jarrah
[JPost] appears to be a future evergreen storyline
They’ve not paid rent to the Israeli owners since they were reconquered in the 1967 war, so of course they’re pissy.
The clashes came shortly after MK Itamar Ben Gvir announced that he would be setting up an office in the neighborhood.

A Jewish-Israeli was moderately injured after being run over by an Arab driver in the Sheikh Jarrah-Shimon Hatzadik neighborhood of east Jerusalem on Saturday night, shortly after clashes broke out between Jews and Arabs and police in the neighborhood.

The driver told police that he had been sprayed with pepper spray and was trying to drive away when he hit the Israeli. Police are investigating the incident, but it is not considered a terrorist incident.

Woman Charged with Vandalizing Slain Chicago Officer's Memorial
[PoliceMag] A Chicago woman has been charged with vandalizing a memorial to fallen Chicago Police Officer Ella French last August. French was shot and killed Aug. 7 during a traffic stop.

Illinois State Police announced Wednesday that Anna Kochakian, 26, has been charged with criminal damage to property for defacement of a police memorial – a Class 4 felony, CBS Chicago reports.

Videos on Twitter, which were posted to a page that has since been deleted, show someone attempting to knock over a memorial inside the Thompson Center with a “Back The Blue” wreath and photo of Officer French. That incident occurred one day after the murdered officer was laid to rest.

When the attempt to knock over the memorial was unsuccessful, the person filming grabbed the photo of French from the stand and balled it up while walking away.

On Wednesday, after a complete investigation, state police obtained an arrest warrant for Kochakian.

Jordan confiscates large amounts of drugs and weapons

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Jordan Armed forces confiscated on Friday in presence of Major General Yousef Ahmed al-Hunaiti, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordan Armed Forces, on the eastern military zone on Jordan-Syria borders, large amount of drugs and weapons coming from Syria.

The confiscated amounts are 9343000 pill of Captagon, 38900 tramadol pills, 7096 handful of cannabis (Hashish), 199 BKCs, 63 Kalashnikov weapons and two vehicles.

"The armed forces will use all its available capabilities, to prevent and confront infiltration and smuggling operations in order to preserve the country’s security and stability and the safety of its citizens alike," Gen.al-Hunaiti told official Jordanian news agency Petra.

"The armed forces continue to stand firmly against anyone trying to undermine the security of the Kingdom and its people through applying new rules of battling and deal with full force with any attempt of infiltration or smuggling," he added.

"If you do not deal with the issue, we will protect our borders," according Jordan-based al-Mamlaka broadcaster.

In September, al-Hunaiti received Syrian Minister of Defense Ali Ayoub in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

The two parties discussed coordination to ensure the security of the common borders between the two countries, the situation in southern Syria, combating terrorism, and joint efforts to confront cross-border smuggling.

Jordan forces thwarted a smuggling operation of over 15 million of Captagon pills in 2021 and 5.5 million in the first two weeks of 2022.

Cyber
Telegram blocks over 60 channels in Germany
They had no problem when it was the meeting place for far left and jihadi groups, but now that free thinkers have migrated there from Facebook and Twitter, it must be shut down.
[DW] The messaging app Telegram has blocked dozens of channels in Germany, including an account belonging to a prominent conspiracy theorist, the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported on Friday.

The move comes amid increased pressure from the German government and authorities, who have expressed concern over groups using the app to spread disinformation about the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic and organize protests that have turned violent mostly peaceful.

It is "the first time" Telegram has taken action against the spread of "hate and incitement" on its platform in Germany, the paper noted.

One of the Telegram channels that was closed down belonged to conspiracy theorist and former vegan chef Attila Hildmann, who spread antisemitic messages as well as disinformation about the coronavirus pandemic to his followers on the platform, the paper reported.

It was not immediately clear which other channels were affected.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said she would continue her push to get Telegram to cooperate with German laws.

"Telegram must no longer be an accelerant for right-wing Death Eaters, conspiracy theorists and other agitators. Death threats and other dangerous messages of hate must be deleted and have legal consequences," she said.

Under German law, social media giants must remove illegal content — such as hate speech and death threats — or face large fines. Platforms such as Telegram, however, have been harder to pin down than more mainstream sites like Twitter and Facebook.

GROWING EXTREMISM CONCERNS
Telegram, which is based in Dubai, is a popular app which provides encrypted messaging and has so far largely evaded regulatory oversight.

Experts in Germany have increasingly voiced concerns that the app is becoming a hotbed for Death Eater activity and radicalization. Far-right and Death Eater groups have increasingly turned to alternative platforms like Telegram after being kicked off major social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Iraq
Security forces captures a contract killer in Maysan

Shafaq News/ Iraqi security forces captured a contract killer charged with more than 20 killings and homicides in the governorate of Maysan earlier today, Saturday.

The Security Media Cell (SMC) said that the arrestee was caught in a raid orchestrated by the govenorate's Operations Commandin al-Mashrah area.

A source told Shafaq News Agency that the arrestee is wanted for long list of charges in accordance with Article 4/Terrorism, 406/Homicide, and 421/Abduction.

The arrestee, Hasan Trad Ghleim from the Sneid tribe, has more than 20 assassinations and 29 arrest warrants in his record.

The source said that Ghleim assassinated Judge Ahmed Faisal al-Saedi who refused to cooperate with him, referred his narcotics case the criminal court, and issued an arrest warrant against him.

He also killed Lieutenant Hosam al-Alyawi who ordered a raid to his headquarters and attempted to arrest him for his involvement in the killing of the educational supervisor Hamid Nehme. Nehme refused to withdraw a case he filed against Ghleim.

The list of Ghleim's victims includes more than 20 persons, including members of the Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq movement and al-Salam companies, in addition to civil activists, tribal figures, and civilians.

Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq issued earlier today a statement refuting what was circulated by social media users about Ghleim's affiliation to the Iranian-backed movement.

The movement said it endorses the security forces in their quest to fight crime and urged them to execute a full swing campaign against the criminals.

National Defense member killed by government forces in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) — A member of the National Defence Forces (NDF), a pro-government faction, was killed on Saturday by government forces, as a result of a quarrel between the two parties at the backdrop of the killing of a leader in the National Defense by government forces two days ago in a town west of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

"A group of the NDF kidnapped the police chief of the al-Kharita cop shoppe, west of Deir ez-Zor, at the backdrop of the killing of a leader in the National Defense two days ago," a military source from the government forces in the town of al-Kharita, 25 km west of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press.

"The members of the National Defense re-targeted a convoy of a leader in the security forces of the government forces. A 30-minute clash took place between the two sides, resulting in the injury of a member of each side," the source added.

Following the incident, the town witnessed great tension. However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the dispute ended after the intervention of Muhanna al-Fayyad, the sheikh of al-Busaraya tribe, and Firas al-Iraqi, a leader in the National Defense, after pledging the release of the captured officer.

Large areas of the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor are run by the pro-Iranian factions and the government forces.

Two days ago, a leader in the National Defense was deadly shot by government forces, as a result of an argument that turned into a clash in the town of al-Dablan in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

#1  Yale University public health professor Harvey Risch has accused the feds of relying on "fake studies" that conflate two very different study populations — hospitalized and outpatient — to portray hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin as ineffective and dangerous.

The feds have consistently messed with the data on both sides: they portrayed the mRNA gene therapy as both safe and effective for all populations when it was and us neither safe nor effective for anyone who's not elderly and/or obese or suffering serious comorbidities. And they have spread and and continue to spread, illegally and outrageously, scurrilous lies about alternative early treatments such as HCQ and ivermectin, which are not just perfectly harmless but also"essential medicines" per WHO. This is a blatant violation of the law, a crime for which they should be prosecuted.

Even now these assholes are desperately trying to find a way to prove that their "boosters" - ie the ridiculous repeated application of the vaccine precisely because it doesn't work - that these failed vaccines are safe and effective for infants and toddlers. Of course, they're NOT safe and effective, which is why we keep hearing about these mysterious "delays" in releasing them.

These people are sick mofos who are endangering the lives and health of our children.

In 2015, violence broke out near a Mosque in Bommanhalli, Bengaluru and what was being termed as minor tiff was in fact a case of some youth trying to impose the Wahhabi preachings. When the seniors in the administration of the Mosque opposed these youth, there were festivities in which 4 persons were maimed seriously.

In another incident that occurred in Maharashtra, Wahhabi scholars bribed some members of the Mosque and attempted taking over the administration. While the Moslems in many states have opposed the Wahhabis tooth and nail, success for the Saudi Arabia

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Invasion of Ukraine postponed to February 16
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] 1. Germany officially calls on all Germans to leave Ukraine as soon as possible and closes the consulate in Dnepropetrovsk.

2. Belgium recommends that all Belgian citizens leave the territory of Ukraine.

3. Britain officially recalls military instructors from the territory of Ukraine. The Pentagon will withdraw 160 people from Ukraine.

4. The Turkish Foreign Ministry recommended that Turkish citizens not visit the eastern border regions of Ukraine without special need.

5, The Iranian Embassy in Ukraine asked compatriots to be prepared for emergencies if necessary.

6. Clown Zelensky asks to clarify US statements according to which "Russia will attack Ukraine on February 16." Puppets in Kiev, as usual, are the last to be informed.

Also from Rozhin:
There have been no fundamental changes

1. As a result of the negotiations between Biden and Putin, the US claims that "fundamental changes" have not occurred.

2. Israel called on the citizens of the country to immediately leave the territory of Ukraine. The IDF is ready to help with the evacuation.

3. Canada has suspended the work of its embassy in Ukraine. The flag was removed from the British Embassy in Kiev.

4. Libya urged its citizens not to travel to Ukraine. The same recommendations were issued by Slovakia.

5. France sees no signs of preparing Russian aggression against Ukraine.

6. Deputy Minister of Defense of Britain said that British citizens should not wait for the start of hostilities, but should leave Ukraine now.

7. The Dutch airline KLM has suspended flights to Ukraine until "further notice".

8. US citizens can now enter Ukraine's land border with Poland without prior notice.

PS. As before, I am sure that if hostilities begin, they will begin at the initiative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and their sponsors, and these actions will be such that Russia does not have the opportunity to refuse participation. The costs of Ukraine from all this are not significant, especially since there is still no other sacred meaning in the existence of Ukraine.

#3  So "France sees no signs of preparing Russian aggression against Ukraine." And Ukraine's own president and the rest of its leadership repeatedly say there is no threat of invasion -- even to PervOTUS Magoo's face in a "frank" discussion. Reports are that Zelensky told Magoo to "calm down."

And now the admin sends what everyone agrees is the most ludicrously ineffective administration member, a laughingstock who's so incompetent and pathological that even her own supporters have abandoned her, to go to a "conference" that doesn't even include the Russians.

If war is imminent, what's the point if a western-only "conference"? What great military power holds a political gabfest with hundreds of staffers when there's a war on?

Russian troops are continuing to build up on the Ukrainian border, but investors are piling into bets that there won’t be a war.

The Russian ruble and Ukrainian hryvnia have strengthened against the dollar in recent days, appreciating 3% and 1.5% this month so far, respectively. The currencies traded at multiyear lows in the last week of January.

Hedge funds have been especially active, with the most net long positions in the ruble in 23 months as of last Friday, according to data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Ukraine on Sunday said its airspace was open, despite warnings by the United States that a Russian invasion could happen at any time and the suspension of flights to the country by airlines.

“Information about the closure of Ukraine’s airspace is not true,” the Ukrainian ministry of infrastructure said in a statement on Sunday, “Closure of airspace is a sovereign right of Ukraine, no decision has been made.”

Infighting between Turkish-backed factions leaves casualties, wounded in Afrin

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) — On Saturday, two Death Eaters of Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
faction were killed and another was maimed in an infighting with al-Hamza Davison in two villages of Jinderis district in the countryside of Afrin north of Aleppo.

The Ottoman Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sham faction and al-Hamza Division are operating in areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

An eyewitness told North Press that intense festivities took place between the two opposition factions in two villages that administratively follow Jinderis district.

Two members of Ahrar al-Sham faction were killed and another one was maimed.

To date, the festivities are still ongoing. One military convoy of the Military Police faction in Afrin city intervened to break out the conflict, the eyewitness added.

On January 5, an infighting erupted between Death Eaters of two factions affiliated with Ottoman Turkish-backed Ahrar al-Sham, in the countryside of Afrin killing a leader and his lover companion and maimed others.

The city of Afrin and its villages, northern Syria, have been controlled by Ottoman Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.

Since then, the region has been witnessing ongoing security chaos accompanied by infighting among Death Eaters of the Ottoman Turkish-backed factions, arrests, and kidnappings amid the factions’ disability to settle the security and spread safety.

Kenya beefs up security on Somali border after Al-Shabaab attacks
[Garowe] The Kenyan security agencies beefed up security as the Somalia-based al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

forces of Evil have seemingly resumed attacks in neighboring Kenya after months of relative peace and stability, striking thrice within a week in separate incidents.

Last week, the forces of Evil killed over 10 people near Mandera, a town neighboring Somalia near the Gedo region, after targeting a passenger vehicle. This was the first attack on Kenyan soil in as many months according to police reports.

A few days later, the forces of Evil killed four people in the neighboring Wajir County just within the area where the Kenyan Defense Forces [KDF] have been conducting operations along with their American counterparts.

Yet again, the forces of Evil carried out an attack on Thursday evening in their latest wave of violence, leaving at least four people dead after a vehicle they were driving in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device [IED] in Garissa County in Kenya.

The incident happened Thursday as the vehicle, which was ferrying six persons in total, made its way to Hulugho from Masalani. The IED detonated between Bura East and Galmagala areas. The driver of the vehicle that sustained serious damage is fighting for his life in hospital while another passenger escaped with minor injuries.

The dear departed persons are said to have been from the same family. Kenyan official James Kianda said an operation had been launched to get those behind the incident. He said they suspect the bomb was set up by al-Shabaab forces of Evil operating in the area. Garissa leaders also urged residents to be more vigilant and report any suspicious persons to the authorities.

Al-Shabaab has been planting explosives on the routes used by the security agencies. They have also been targeting communication masts in their attacks. The area is near the Somalia border, and the forces of Evil usually cross at will and stage attacks before escaping back.

CNN Poll: Americans Rank Biden's Open Border Among Top Problems this Year
[Breitbart] American adults say illegal immigration at the United States border under President Joe Biden is among the top problems facing the nation this year, a CNN poll reveals.

The poll, released on Thursday, reveals that Americans — including swing voters — consider securing the U.S. border the third most important problem that Congress and Biden should address this year.

The issue of illegal immigration at the border ranks behind reducing inflation and protecting voting rights for American citizens.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas agreed, in a closed-door meeting last month, that illegal immigration is “worse now than … ever.”

Among registered Republicans and self-described conservatives, illegal immigration at the border is the top priority that Congress and Biden must address. Democrats and those who “lean Democrat,” in contrast, consider illegal immigration their last concern.

White working class Americans, those without a college degree, consider illegal immigration at the border and reducing inflation the two biggest problems facing the nation at the moment.

Non-college-educated Americans, of all races, see illegal immigration as the second highest priority just behind reducing inflation.

Ukrainian T-64 to be modernized
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[VK] In Ukraine, they showed new photos of work on fine-tuning the T-64 to the level of T-64BM2 and told new data.

It is in the T-64BM2 that the Command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine sees a tank for the near future.

It is already planned to install a single information panel for the driver instead of traditional sensors on the tank: all indicators of the tank’s operation such as oil-fuel-temperature-speed will be displayed on the screen.

In addition, it will also display the view from the reverse cameras and a map with GPS.

Of course, everything that has recently been installed during repairs on linear T-64BV type thermal imagers, modern communications equipment will also be installed on the tank.

It is expected that from 2022 all tanks that will be supplied to the Kharkov Armored Plant will be brought up to the level of T-64bm2.

“I say “expected” because there is no contract for the T-64BM2 yet, but contracts for the repair of the T-64BV are also no longer being extended, because the BM2 is expected,” says Alexei Bobovnikov.

👉🏻Recall that the T-64BM2 tank received a 1000-horsepower 6TD engine. The engine compartment was completely redesigned.

The modernization was carried out in close cooperation with the Kharkov Armored Plant, KMDB and the Design and Technology Center of the Ministry of Defense.

👉🏻The tank is equipped with a 1G46 sight and other modern components of the fire control system.

👉🏻A thermal imaging matrix was installed in the sight, which made it possible to expand the target recognition range to 3 km at night.

👉🏻A digital secure communication and navigation system has been installed.

👉🏻For protection, he received dynamic protection "Knife" and anti-cumulative grilles at the back.

At the beginning of the year, it was reported that the State Enterprise "Kharkov Armored Plant" mastered the overhaul of this tank.

The first batch of these modernized vehicles has already been transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Canadian police to remove protesters near bridge to US, protesters leave politely
[DW] Protesters blocking a major bridge connecting Canada and the US were ordered to clear the area by a court ruling.

Canadian police on Saturday arrived at the scene of a major protest that had disrupted Canada-US trade, as several trucks blocked a key border crossing between the two nations.

The move comes after a court order had mandated that the demonstrators could not continue to block the Ambassador Bridge in the city of Windsor, Canada.

TWO WEEKS OF PROTESTS
Demonstrators are against Canada's vaccine mandates and other coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
restrictions. But they have also directed their ire toward Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
...hereditary prime minister of the same country that once produced McKenzie King...
. In turn, Trudeau has referred to them as a "fringe'' of Canadian society.

But what began as a small, spontaneous act of collective action has lasted more than two weeks, with thousands of people taking part. Protesters at the Ambassador Bridge had shuttered traffic between the US and Canada for five days, threatening bilateral commerce.

Canadian leaders denounced the protesters and their actions.

"The illegal blockades are impacting trade, supply chains & manufacturing. They're hurting Canadian families, workers & businesses. Glad to see the Windsor Police & its policing partners commenced enforcement at and near the Ambassador Bridge," Federal Innovation Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne tweeted Saturday.

"These blockades must stop,'' he added.

CONVOY HAS INSPIRED OTHERS ABROAD
Canada's protests have reverberated outside the country, in La Belle France and New Zealand.

On Saturday, police in Gay Paree intercepted at least 500 vehicles attempting to enter the city, in defiance of a police order, to participate in a "freedom convoy." Like the Canada convoy, French protesters are also against stricter rules affecting those who have either not been vaccinated or fully vaccinated.

A convoy of motorists in the US is planning to gather at the waterfront in Port Huron, Michigan, in support of protesters in Canada. Another US group said it would converge this weekend at the Peace Bridge, also a US-Canadian border crossing in Buffalo, New York.

The Ambassador Bridge is the busiest US-Canadian border crossing, carrying 25% of all trade between the two nations.

"We urge all demonstrators to act lawfully & peacefully," Windsor Police said in a Twitter post, asking residents to avoid the areas linked to the demonstrations.

Police in black uniforms with yellow vests rushed behind the protesters' vehicles and formed a line across the bridge entrance.

The number of protesters had decreased from about 200 on Friday night to roughly two dozen early Saturday, as many chose to leave the area after the court order was issued.

Alleged Turkish drone strike injures a civillian in Rojava
[Rudaw] A suspected Ottoman Turkish drone on Saturday targeted an area in Hasaka province, northeast Syria (Rojava), injuring at least one civilian.

The drone struck a stationary car on a road separating the sub-districts of Amuda and al-Darbasiyah, according to Hawar News Agency (ANHA).

Rojava Information Center (RIC), affiliated with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that the injured civilian was transported to Amuda hospital.

The car was reportedly parked in front of offices of the Community Protection Forces (HPC), whom RIC describes as "a civilian neighborhood defense force."

On Tuesday, another suspected Ottoman Turkish drone struck the same area, killing a child and injuring others.

Hasaka has frequently been the location of attacks by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Details of the telephone conversation between Putin and Macron
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] Russian President Vladimir Putin , during a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron , announced the unwillingness of Western countries to push Kiev to implement the Minsk agreements. This was reported on February 12 on the Kremlin website.

"The unwillingness of the leading Western countries to push the Kiev authorities to implement the Minsk agreements was also emphasized, which was once again manifested in the unsuccessful round of consultations of political advisers to the leaders of the Normandy format states held on February 10 in Berlin," the message says.

As REGNUM reported , the Ukrainian topic, as well as the issue of security guarantees that Moscow is seeking from NATO, were discussed on February 7 during a lengthy meeting between Putin and Macron in the Kremlin.

Ushakov: Russia essentially did not receive a response from the United States on security guarantees

[REGNUM] Russia essentially received no response from the United States on strategic security guarantees, Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov said on February 12.

"In fact, neither on the expansion of NATO, nor on the non-deployment of strike forces on Ukrainian territory, nor on the return to the configuration of the alliance’s forces to the state of 1997, when Russia’s founding act of NATO was signed, did we receive an answer in essence," he said.

As REGNUM reported earlier, Ushakov said earlier that United States President Joe Biden, during a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, mentioned possible sanctions against Moscow against the backdrop of the situation around Ukraine.

Syria regime shelling on Idlib kills six

Syrian regime shelling killed six civilians including women and kiddies on Saturday in Idlib province, the country's last main opposition bastion, a war monitor said.

An AFP photographer at the scene reported seeing several bodies being taken away from a wrecked home in Maarat al-Naasan, an area close to regime-controlled territory.

"The shell fell on a civilian home," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based group with a network of sources on the ground in the war-torn country.

The monitor said two women and two children were among those killed, who were all from the same family. Many others were maimed.

The shelling had begun at around 11:30 GMT, with more shells fired intermittently afterwards, the AFP photographer said.

The Syrian regime and its ally Russia have regularly targeted hospitals and civilian areas since the start of the war in 2011, according to the Observatory.

England's five-star World Cup hotel linked to Qatari government agency accused of laundering hundreds of millions of dollars to jihadists... with the FA's links to the Gulf nation under more scrutiny
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • England’s World Cup hotel was built by a Qatari government agency accused of funding Al-Qaeda terrorists in Syria (Al Nusra Front)

  • Tivoli Souq Al-Wakra hotel was bankrolled by Qatar’s Private Engineering Office

  • PEO was named in the High Court as alleged source of jihadist money laundering

  • It was claimed conspiracy was driven ‘by members of the Qatari ruling elite’

  • Gareth Southgate wants to base his squad at the five-star beach resort this year
FA sources have pointed out that they are limited to hotels sourced by FIFA, who produce a list of bases for the 32 tournament qualifiers to pick from. The Souq Al-Wakra hotel was built in 2015 specifically for the World Cup.

A High Court lawsuit launched last June accused the PEO of funnelling money to Al-Qaeda through artificially inflated construction contracts in Syria in a conspiracy masterminded by the Qatari government and the Muslim Brotherhood, the Sunni Islamist organisation.

The conspiracy was driven ‘by high-ranking members of the Qatari ruling elite’ and provided funds to ‘actively support and facilitate’ Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists including the jihadist Nusra Front in the Syrian civil war, the High Court claim alleges. The PEO was central to the operation according to the High Court claim, receiving orders direct from Qatar’s emir, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

The Qatari government and all the defendants, who include former Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani, have categorically denied the allegations, with Al-Thani’s representatives branding them baseless. Neither the FA or FIFA would comment on an ongoing court case.

The High Court claims against companies involved in the World Cup construction projects will lead to even more scrutiny of FIFA’s decision to award the tournament to Qatar.

Zelensky showed footage from exercises near Crimea
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] Today, on February 12, in Kalanchak, Kherson region, special tactical exercises of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were held, which were observed by the President of Ukraine. Vladimir Zelensky posted a photo on his Telegram channel.

The President at the briefing urged the Ukrainians to remain calm.

"We are not afraid of anyone and we are not panicking. We are conducting training and keeping the situation under control. Everything will be Ukraine!" Zelensky signed the photo.

The exercises worked out the response to "illegal crossings" of checkpoints and the "liquidation" of armed groups.
Which is similar to the exercises the Russian Army does every six months or so, all over Russia

Biden admin deporting roughly just one-fifth of illegal immigrants recently being deported, report
[JustTheNews] Despite record numbers of illegal border crossings, the agency is deporting historically low numbers of eligible candidates.

Amid a surge of roughly 7,000 daily illegal migrant border crossings, U.S. immigration agencies are deporting just 100 illegal immigrants a day, according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

FAIR makes the claim after reviewing Immigration and Customs Enforcement data that the group says puts deportation figures under the Biden administration at just one-fifth the number compared to recent years.

The group, which advocates strong border protection, believes the low, daily-deportation figure illustrates the administration's goal of knee-capping ICE by preventing it from executing a primary purpose – deporting illegal immigrants.

The ICE data shows that in a fiscal 2021, in which close to two million illegal immigrants were apprehended at the border, just 55,000 were removed by the immigration agency, according to FAIR.

The group says the numbers are in "long-delayed preliminary data quietly released" by ICE and the fiscal 2021 deportation number is "historically low," compared to those in fiscal 2017-2019 and about one-third of the total for fiscal 2020.

The removals that did take place occurred prior to Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' change in department protocols about who agents should be arresting. Now that ICE agents are barred from arresting and deporting all but the most violent criminals, deportation figures may drop even lower in 2022.

Russian military began exercises in the mountains of Abkhazia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFrontInfo] The press service of the Southern Military District reported that battalion tactical exercises of a group of the Russian military base of the Southern Military District began at the Tsabal training ground in the mountainous region of Abkhazia.

During the march, as part of a mechanized column, motorized rifle units of the Southern Military District repelled the attacks of sabotage groups of a mock enemy.

In total, 1,500 military personnel and about 200 pieces of military equipment, including Dozor reconnaissance vehicles, Akatsiya self-propelled artillery mounts, and unmanned aerial vehicles, are taking part in the exercises.

In addition, the BTR-82A armored personnel carrier and regular small arms, including RPG-7D and AGS-17 grenade launchers, were used in the firing.

"The purpose of the bilateral battalion tactical exercise is to test the readiness of motorized rifle units of the Southern Military District to perform combat missions, improve their combat coherence in the preparation and conduct of defensive operations, as well as train command personnel to make non-standard decisions in the course of performing combat missions using modern combat experience," noted in the department.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Iranian Money Launderer for Mexican Cartels Sent to U.S. Prison
[Breitbart] An Iranian businessman will be spending more than three years in a U.S. prison for laundering money for Mexican cartels. The man used firms along the U.S.-Mexico Border to launder illicit funds, according to court documents.

This week, 51-year-old Mohsen Mohammadi-Mohammadi went before U.S. District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo in Laredo, who sentenced him to 40 months for money laundering, a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced. Mohammadi pleaded guilty to the charge in December. After his sentence, he is expected to be deported.

Mohammadi worked with various individuals to launder money using a tactic called black market peso exchange, prosecutors argued, where they would trade commodities internationally so as to give cartels their funds in Mexican cash.

Court documents claim that from 2011 to 2013, Mohammadi would have associates pick up drug proceeds in U.S. cities and move them to Laredo to purchase and sell premium perfumes and other items. Prosecutors claim Mohammadi fled to Iran in 2017 after the case became public and it was not until recent travel to New York that allowed authorities to arrest him.

The use of border city perfume stores to launder cartel money is not new. In 2012, a federal judge in New York sentenced Vikram Datta to 20-years in prison for his role in using his stores in Laredo to launder money for the Sinaloa Cartel, a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed. Ptosecutors claimed that from 2009 to 2011, Datta used his business to launder millions.

Russia says US submarine violated its waters in far east
[JPost] Russia's defense ministry summoned the US military attache on Saturday after complaining of an incident in which it said a US submarine violated its territorial waters
A Russian naval vessel chased away a US submarine in Russian waters in the Pacific after the submarine ignored a Russian order to surface, Interfax news agency cited the defense ministry as saying on Saturday.

The Russian ministry called in the US defense attache after complaining that the submarine had entered its waters, the RIA news agency reported. Tensions between Moscow and Washington are already high over a Russian military buildup near Ukraine.

The submarine was spotted near the Kuril islands early on Saturday as Russia was conducting naval exercises with its Pacific Fleet and it was ordered to surface immediately, the Russian ministry was quoted as saying.

It said the order was ignored by the US submarine's crew, leading the crew of Russia's Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate to use unspecified "corresponding means" to make the vessel leave.

"The US submarine ... left Russian territorial waters at maximum speed," the defense ministry was quoted as saying.
There was no immediate comment from the United States.

Russia's defense minister spoke by phone with his US counterpart on Saturday as the United States and other Western nations warned that war in Ukraine could ignite at any moment. US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin started a call later in the day
Update: "Nuh huh!" sez U.S.

#1  Sam Faddis on this yesterday:

For weeks now the Biden administration, hopelessly compromised and looking at political annihilation in the coming midterm elections, has flirted with disaster. Desperate to regain credibility and to counter the obvious impotence of the man in the White House, Joe’s mandarins have made all sorts of vaguely threatening pronouncements regarding Ukraine and shoved forward a wide range of U.S. military assets into Eastern Europe.

The obvious danger of stumbling into war has been disregarded. Men who have never heard a shot fired in anger, never put their lives on the line, and have no earthly idea what strategy they are pursuing have put the whole world in danger. We may be about to pay the price for that incompetence.

...This is the way wars start. All it will take will be one exchange of fire. An aircraft will go down. A ship will be torpedoed. Lives will be lost. The clamor to hit back will begin. The men who run the world’s biggest defense contractors will join the push. The prospect of endless profits from another conflict will be too great to resist.

War is an ugly, brutal thing. It ought not to be entered into lightly or without sober reflection. The price for imprudence and incompetence will not be paid by the men and women behind desks in DC. It will be paid, as always, by the young men and women of our small towns, farms and blue-collar neighborhoods.

We are adrift in perilous waters with a senile empty suit of a President who sold his soul to Communist China long ago at the helm. He is surrounded by spineless incompetents who now seek to pose as men of strength and project power. There could hardly be a more dangerous combination.

We will do well to come through this without catastrophe. We stand on the precipice of war.

#8  Seems that a US Virginia-class sub (a fast attack boat) was shadowing a Russian naval exercise when it was detected by Marshal Shaposhnikov, an Udaloy-class anti-submarine frigate. When the Russians encouraged the sub to surface, it deployed a decoy and left the area.

What are the chances a Russian ship could detect a US submarine ?
The Virginia class should be pretty quiet as long as sneakiness is the order of the day and no one is distracted running Pronoun Drills.
We shouldn't be too surprised a sub-hunter found a sub. It would certainly show up if you drove over it with active sonar.

Lately, the USN has been experiencing ship-handling issues. My theory of the crime, based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever, is the sub had issues maintaining periscope depth and breached the surface which reduced its stealthiness.

We put seamen in the Russian waters?

#1  Trump had a mysterious one-on-one with then NSA Director ADM Michael S. Rogers during the run-up to his election. Speculation was that Rogers told Trump that he was being monitored. Trump moved his campaign HQ out of the Towers the day after the meeting.

As mentioned in the comments, Trump needs to file a civil suit against Clinton.

I would be very surprised if the Biden DoJ didn't eventually obstruct the Durham investigation.

#5  This is beyond scandalous. This is proof positive that Clinton's campaign was a criminal enterprise that fabricated a monstrous accusation and then perverted every available instrument of power -- the national security establishment, the justice system, law enforcement and elements of the tech industry -- to commit felonies in order to destroy a political rival and then to bring down a duly elected president.

This is far worse than Watergate. This is treason.
Trump is absolutely correct:

Former President Trump reacted to the filing on Saturday evening, saying Durham’s filing "provides indisputable evidence that my campaign and presidency were spied on by operatives paid by the Hillary Clinton Campaign in an effort to develop a completely fabricated connection to Russia."

"This is a scandal far greater in scope and magnitude than Watergate and those who were involved in and knew about this spying operation should be subject to criminal prosecution," Trump said.
"In a stronger period of time in our country, this crime would have been punishable by death."

government for his alleged involvement in money laundering.

The accused, who was identified as Agha Sabir Hussain, was allegedly running an illegal money exchange business in Quetta for a long time. An FIR has been registered against him.

Sources said FIA had been in search of Sabir Hussain for some time. A team of the agency raided a place where he was thought to be hiding and arrested him.

The agency’s deputy director, Bashir Somroo, told Dawn that the accused had made transactions amounting to billions of rupees through Hundi and Hawala. An initial investigation revealed that he had laundered over Rs1 billion through Hundi and Hawala.

Mr Somroo said Sabir Hussain is an employee of the Services and General Administration Department of the Balochistan government. He said more arrests in the case could not be ruled out.

Meanwhile,

for allegedly conducting Hundi and Hawala business for Iranian intelligence, sources said.
Why would Iran need to fund jihadis in Karachi, of all places? Has this anything to do with the Hazeras, from whom they harvest cannon fodder for elsewhere?
The accused was identified as Syed Wisal Haider Naqvi. Souces said the accused allegedly arranged funds in Pakistain for the intelligence agency.

Also in Karachi, security agencies have arrested 13 people for allegedly spying for a foreign intelligence agency.
What, another one? Truly Karachi is a an equal opportunity den of iniquity!
They said officials of FIA and an intelligence agency were interrogating the arrested persons.

Myanmar junta says to free over 800 prisoners
Checking in to see what nasty but unimportant nonsense the Burmese are getting up to while we weren’t looking.
[AlAham] Myanmar's junta on Saturday announced an amnesty for more than 800 prisoners, as it held a parade and show of force in the capital to mark the country's Union Day.

The country has been in turmoil since last year's coup, with mass protests and a subsequent military crackdown that has killed more than 1,500 civilians, according to the UN's human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
office.

Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing issued the "pardon order" -- a regular feature of major holidays in the country -- for 814 prisoners, state media said, marking the 75th Union Day.

The annual holiday commemorates an agreement between independence hero Aung San and several ethnic groups to form a Union of Burma independent of British rule.

Those given amnesty will be mostly from prisons in commercial hub Yangon, junta spokesperson Zaw Min Tun told AFP.

He did not say whether Australian academic Sean Turnell -- who has been detained for more than a year -- would be among those released.

The economics professor was working as an adviser to civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi when he was arrested last February, days after she was ousted by the military.

He has been charged with violating Myanmar's official secrets law and faces a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison if found guilty.

About 100 people gathered outside Yangon's Insein prison on Saturday morning hoping to be reunited with loved ones, AFP correspondents said.

Four minibuses left the prison around noon local time (0530 GMT) and drove away, with those inside waving as people in the crowd shouted the names of relatives.

The junta marked Union Day with a show of force in the military-built capital Naypyidaw
...generally translated as royal capital, seat of the king or abode of kings because the general in charge had a massive ego. It was founded in 2002 because Rangoon was worn out. Traditionally, Naypyidaw was used as a suffix to the names of royal capitals, such as Mandalay, which was called Yadanabon Naypyidaw in Burmese...
Hundreds of troops paraded alongside civil servants waving national flags in unison, and there were choreographed dances.

Helicopters carrying the country's yellow, green and red flag flew overhead, followed by jets trailing the same colours in smoke.

In a speech to troops, Min Aung Hlaing repeated the military's claim of massive fraud in 2020 elections won by Suu Kyi's party.

He also invited the myriad ethnic armed organizations that have been fighting Myanmar's military -- and each other -- for decades to sit for peace talks.

The Karen National Union, whose fighters have clashed repeatedly with junta troops in the east, said it would not attend talks.

French forces 'neutralize' 40 militants in Burkina Faso
[DW] The French army on Saturday said it killed 40 faceless myrmidons in Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
. According to a statement posted on Twitter, the faceless myrmidons were "neutralized" during a joint operation with Burkinabe armed forces. The statement went on to say that the armed "terrorist group" was responsible for two attacks in neighboring Benin.
Probably Al Qaeda. Some from the 2% of the population that is Tuareg joined forces with the Tuareg-linked branch of Al Qaeda in the Maghreb in Mali (JNIM), allowed safe haven in Burkina Faso by then-president Blaise Compaoré in exchange for keeping kinetic action across the border, but when he left office they expanded activities into the provinces along the Mali border. ISIS in the Greater Sahel, formed from a faction of AQIM’s al Mourabitoun, is much less active, while Nigeria’s Boko Haram/ISWAP mostly pursues money and weapons to take back home.
GROUP BELIEVED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BENIN ATTACKS
The French army said on Tuesday and Wednesday that an gang operating in the area of the W National Park led attacks on a ranger patrol and members of Benin's armed forces.

Nine people were killed, including five park rangers and a French national.

According to the French military's statement, aerial intelligence was used to locate the group after the alarm was raised. On Thursday, a column of "terrorists" traveling on cycle of violences was targeted by a drone as they crossed the border of Burkina Faso. Twelve were killed in that engagement.

Shortly after that, warplanes carried out three strikes targeting more holy warriors. "During this action more than 30 bandidos bandidos holy warriors were neutralized," the statement said.

In January, French armed forces reported that dozens of Islamist faceless myrmidons were killed in a number of engagements in northern Burkina Faso.

... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
. Around 5,000 French troops are joined by soldiers from Mali, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad.

Last year, La Belle France's President Emmanuel Macron said his country's involvement in the operation would end in the first quarter of 2022.

The insurgency has plunged the region into chaos with a number of states experiencing political turmoil.

In January, Burkina Faso became the latest country to fall under military control, joining Mali, Guinea and Chad, where militaries toppled their countries' governments in 2021.

One of the reasons cited by the military for seizing control was growing frustration with the government's inability to contain the insurgency.

A 'number' of British citizens detained in Afghanistan: UK
The national “interim” government could never be said to countenance such a thing, but sometimes local Taliban running things on the ground forget that they’re pretending to be civilized.
[AlAhram] A "number" of British nationals are being detained in Afghanistan, the UK government said Saturday, adding that it had raised the issue with the country's Taliban

authorities.

The foreign ministry's statement to AFP came a day after the Taliban released two overseas journalists who were tossed into the calaboose, including a former BBC correspondent.

"We are providing support to the families of a number of British men who have been detained in Afghanistan," the ministry said, without specifying how many British nationals were being held and by whom.

"UK officials have raised their detention with the Taliban at every opportunity, including when a delegation travelled to Kabul this week."

On Friday, Western media reports said at least six British citizens were being detained in Afghanistan, including former BBC correspondent Andrew North, who was released later that day.

The Taliban authorities did not comment when contacted by AFP.

Also among British nationals detained is Peter Jouvenal, who has been held since early December, a statement released by his friends said. A journalist turned businessman, Jouvenal is also a German citizen and is married to an Afghan woman. He might have been "detained in error" as he was in Afghanistan to discuss investments in the country's mining industry, the statement said.

"He is being held without charge, and with no freedom to contact his family or lawyers," it said, adding that Jouvenal had been the cameraman for a CNN

"Before his arrest he was working openly and had frequent meetings with senior Taliban officials."

On Friday, the Taliban released North and another foreign journalist after the two were detained while on an assignment for the UN refugee agency in Afghanistan. It was unclear when they were detained but the agency said it was "relieved" that the two and their Afghan colleagues were free.

Taliban government front man Zabihullah Mujahid said they were tossed into the calaboose because they did not possess valid identity cards and documents.

How odd. MILF signed a peace agreement with the Philippine government in 2014, thereafter turning their attention to running the transitional government in the now-autonomous Mindanao region. Recalcitrant spin-offs attached to ISIS continue old habits, though.
The men attacked the convoy of Peges Mamasainged, also known as Commander Black Magic, around 8:30 a.m. in Tambunan village in Maguindanao province, according to provincial police commander Col. Jibin Bongcayao.

"The motive of the incident is the long-standing family feud of the involved parties," the police official said.
Feud, not jihad? OK — moved to Page 3.
Mamasainged, a member of the MILF’s inner guard base command, was traveling to a nearby village when he was killed along with five relatives and three unidentified individuals. Authorities did not release details on those who were maimed.

Bongcayao identified MILF members Jordan Mama Lintang and his son, Morsid, as the alleged leaders of the attack. He did not say if any of the attackers were maimed or if members of the convoy fired back.

MILF front man Von Al Haq, meanwhile, said the father and son were not members of the organization. The MILF signed a peace agreement with the government in 2014, ending its long-running separatist insurgency in the region.

In predominantly Moslem areas of Mindanao island, it is not unusual for families to settle differences through clan wars known as "rido." Hostilities could last for decades until a peace pact is signed, usually through mediation by religious leaders along with a cash payment.

Political rivalries, ancestral land claims, disputes over local fiefdoms as well as election-related feuds often spur clan wars in Mindanao, the country’s mineral-rich southern third.

"Police and military personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent escalation of the incident," Bongcayao said.

Al Haq, the MILF front man, told BenarNews the organization’s ceasefire team was on the ground as well to help prevent the situation from getting worse.

"It’s confirmed that those people ambushed were our men. The suspects are not connected with us," he said. "We are checking if it’s election related."

On May 9, Filipinos will vote to elect a new president and vice president, fill 12 of the 24 Senate and all 316 House seats along with about 18,000 official positions ranging from governors to mayors and town councilors.

Philippine elections, especially in the countryside, are traditionally marred by violence. In 2019, 23 people were killed and 50 injured during mid-term polls and as many as 50 people died in poll-related violence during the 2016 presidential election, according to statistics from the national police.

Two former opposition members killed in Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) — On Saturday, two opposition members were deadly shot by unknown button men in the city of Tafas in the west countryside of Syria’s Daraa. Mohammed al-Zu’bi and Ibrahim al-Zu’bi were deadly shot while being present in the square of the public market, a source in the city told North Press.

"The two young men did not join the Syrian government forces following the settlement process in 2018 when the government forces reclaimed Daraa governorate," the source said.

In the same context, one person, said to be a civilian, was killed by unknown button men in the west countryside of Daraa.

Murad Mubarak al-NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
or, was deadly shot as unknown armed persons riding a cycle of violence fired directly at him on the outskirts of Masaken Galin town in the west countryside of Daraa, according to a local source.

al-NATOor was a civilian man who worked as a frmer and had never joined any military faction. He was transported to Tafas city and died of his wounds later, the source said.

Today, Mos’ab al-Bardan, an opponent figure and also a member of the Central Committee tasked to negotiate with the Syrian government in Daraa, died of his wounds.

On Thursday, unknown button men targeted al-Bardan and two of his escorts in Atman town in the central countryside of Daraa.

The Martyr Documentation Office, a local non-governmental organization that follows up the statistics of casualties and detainees in Daraa, documented 1,084 killing attempts in which 685 people, whether civilians, former fighters of the Syrian armed opposition factions who had settled their status or fighters of the Syrian government forces between the summer of 2018 and last September, were killed.

Since the second settlement process in October 2021, the Martyr Documentation Office has documented 55 killing attempts that claimed the lives of 38 persons.

Military Airstrike Kills Child Jihadist

Muhammad Yusuf, a child-fighter named after Boko Haram

According to a report, Yusuf was killed some days ago by a military Arclight airstrike

at the Bukar Mairam enclave of the rebels in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.

Before his death, Yusuf was a commander at Bukar Mairam, holding the leadership title of Rijal Amne (Trustworthy man).

The boy’s father, Goni Maina, was the former commander (governor of the Lake Chad) of the terrorist group, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. of West Africa.

Maina was killed in December 2020 during an air raid jointly conducted by the Nigerian Army and Air Force.

The air raid at the time also led to the elimination of more than 100 murderous Moslems including several high-ranking holy warriors’ commanders, foot soldiers and Hisbah police from the ISWAP faction, late Abubakar Shekau

faction and foreign mercenaries.

Yusuf’s father was appointed governor of Lake Chad in July 2020 after the reign of Amir Baba Kaka was toppled by other Boko Haram commanders.

Maina was a khadi (judge) in the terrorist group before becoming a governor.

His reign ended on December 1, 2020 when he was killed by military airstrikes.

Sources said his son, Yusuf, was appointed commander after his death.

Arabia
US F-22 fighter jets arrive in UAE after Houthi attacks
[AlAhram] US F-22 fighter jets arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday, part of an American defense response to recent missile attacks by Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
's Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
rebels targeting the country.

The Raptors landed at al-Dhafra Air Base in Abu Dhabi, which hosts some 2,000 U.S. troops. American soldiers there launched Patriot interceptor missiles in response to the Houthi attacks last month, the first time U.S. troops have fired the system in combat since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

American officials declined to say how many F-22s deployed or the number of airmen supporting the aircraft, citing operational security. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
they identified the unit involved as the 1st Fighter Wing, located at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia. A photo later released by the Air Force showed six F-22s in a line on a taxiway at al-Dhafra.

"The Raptors' presence will bolster already strong partner nation defenses and puts destabilizing forces on notice that the U.S. and our partners are committed to enabling peace and stability in the region,`` Lt. Gen. Greg Guillot, the commander of the U.S. Air Force's Mideast command, said in a statement.

The deployment comes after the Iranian-backed Houthis launched three attacks targeting Abu Dhabi last month, including one targeting a fuel depot that killed three people and maimed six. The attacks coincided with visits by presidents from South Korea and Israel to the country.

A shadowy Iraqi group claimed launching a drone attack targeting the Emirates in early February, though authorities say they intercepted them.

Though overshadowed by the Ukraine crisis, the missile fire targeting the Emirates has sparked a major U.S. response. The American military has sent the USS Cole on a mission to Abu Dhabi.

The spillover of Yemen's yearslong war into the UAE puts American troops in the crosshairs of the Houthi attacks, and raises the risk of a regional escalation at a crucial moment of talks in Vienna to potentially restore Iran's nuclear deal with world powers.

ATC Judge Nasir Hussain handed down the sentence to the four men for possessing explosives which they wanted to use in attacks on sensitive installations in Bahawalpur city and Sammsatta during 2021.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Kremlin reveals details of the conversation between Putin and Biden
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RIA Novosti] Presidents of Russia and the United States Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden spoke on the phone for more than an hour, the nature of the conversation was balanced and business-like, said Yury Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader.

"The conversation took place in an environment of unprecedented hysteria by US officials about Russia's supposedly imminent invasion of Ukraine," the official added.

According to him, "the hysteria has reached its climax."
Ushakov noted that the Americans are artificially escalating the situation, naming "the dates of this invasion," and at the same time, together with the allies, are "pumping up the military muscles of Ukraine."

"To the accompaniment of allegations of an invasion, prerequisites are being created for possibly provocative actions by the Ukrainian armed forces. This is how we view this situation," the presidential aide said.

Biden, as expected, mentioned possible anti-Russian sanctions in the context of the tense situation around Ukraine, but there was no emphasis on this issue.

In turn, Putin reminded his interlocutor of the history of the development of relations between Moscow , Washington and NATO.

"The President of Russia, in particular, noted that during the years of the Cold War, the Soviet Union and the United States were, of course, one hundred percent adversaries.

And, for example, in the 1990s, we seemed to be friends. But even then, the United States and NATO pursued a far from constructive line towards Russia, because it was then that the practical expansion of the scope of NATO's activities began, it was then that new members were admitted, and the alliance approached the borders of Russia," the presidential aide added.

In the conversation, Putin noted that "our two great powers are still competitors, but must do everything to maintain stability" and security throughout the world.

The Russian leader also pointed out that the West is not trying to get Ukraine to implement the Minsk agreements. At the same time, tensions have been escalated around the movement of Russian troops across Russian territory for several months, and in recent days and hours the situation has been brought to the point of absurdity; it is not clear why this should be done.

Moscow calls for doing everything possible to "avoid the worst-case scenario in the context of the current situation around Ukraine," Ushakov concluded.

The conversation between Putin and Biden took place against the backdrop of regular statements by Western politicians and journalists about Moscow's imaginary plans to escalate the situation around Ukraine.

Thus, the Politico newspaper, citing "informed sources", wrote that the US President, at a meeting with the leaders of Western countries, the European Union and NATO, which took place the night before via video link, called the date of Russia's "invasion" of Ukraine on February 16.

Under this pretext, NATO is strengthening its presence at the Russian borders. So, it became known that the United States is additionally transferring 3,000 troops to Poland and sent four destroyers to Europe.

Russia rejects all the plans attributed to it to escalate the conflict in Ukraine and reminds that Kiev does not comply with the Minsk agreements: the Ukrainian authorities have concentrated half of the army’s personnel near the line of contact and fire at the militias with banned weapons.

The Kremlin and the Foreign Ministry have repeatedly noted that the goal of the "aggression" stories is to build up a foreign group near the Russian borders. They also explained that the main reason for the escalation of the situation is the actions of the United States and NATO, which are pumping Ukraine with weapons, thereby pushing it towards military adventures.

As the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov emphasized , the information hysteria of the West is accompanied by a large number of lies and fakes.
