Iran hit by global cyber attack that left U.S. flag on screens
Al-Rooters
Hackers have attacked networks in a number of countries including data centers in Iran where they left the image of a U.S. flag on screens along with a warning: "Don’t mess with our elections", the Iranian IT ministry said on Saturday.

"The attack apparently affected 200,000 router switches across the world in a widespread attack, including 3,500 switches in our country," the Communication and Information Technology Ministry said in a statement carried by Iran’s official news agency IRNA.

The statement said the attack, which hit internet service providers and cut off web access for subscribers, was made possible by a vulnerability in routers from Cisco which had earlier issued a warning and provided a patch that some firms had failed to install over the Iranian new year holiday.

A blog published on Thursday by Nick Biasini, a threat researcher at Cisco’s Talos Security Intelligence and Research Group, said: "Several incidents in multiple countries, including some specifically targeting critical infrastructure, have involved the misuse of the Smart Install protocol...

Iran's IT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi posted a picture of a computer screen on Twitter with the image of the U.S. flag and the hackers' message. He said it was not yet clear who had carried out the attack.

Azari-Jahromi said the attack mainly affected Europe, India and the United States, state television reported.

"Some 55,000 devices were affected in the United States and 14,000 in China, and Iran's share of affected devices was 2 percent," Azari-Jahromi was quoted as saying.

National Guardsman Tasked With Monitoring Social Media In Search of Scams
[OpsLens] There has been a popular scam gaining traction in the past few years involving members of the United States Armed Forces. During this time, many military members have discovered that someone has taken their photos and information to create fake social media accounts and online profiles. As a result of this, a Minnesota National Guardsman has been given the task of sifting through the Internet searching for fake profiles. According to Master Sergeant Blair Heusdens, criminals find easy targets by first gaining trust posing as romantic interests.

While experienced military members can easily spot fakes, unsuspecting victims‐usually women‐don’t have enough knowledge about how military affairs operate to become suspicious. Most of the scams originate overseas. Scammers search for military members on Facebook and other social media platforms in order to steal pictures and information. Then the anonymous users seek out vulnerable targets, such as older women. Once the mark has been identified, a scammer will make contact and begin an online relationship. After the grooming stage is complete, these criminals will spin sad stories claiming they need money because the military doesn’t provide funds for such things as housing, travel, and food.

One particular case I have knowledge of involves an older woman in the United States. A young soldier reached out to her claiming he was a widower stationed in London. Over a few weeks, the two began an online relationship. The "soldier" even sent photos of a young boy to the woman, supposedly the "soldier’s" son.

Then came the story of a sick uncle needing immediate medical attention and food. The woman subsequently sent roughly $4000 to a location in London for the individual. After eventually becoming suspicious, the woman began her own research online and found the real service member’s Facebook page. Her suspicions were confirmed when she alerted the soldier’s wife, who was horrified to learn a stranger was using photos of her husband and young son. As soon as the scammer was confronted, the fake profile disappeared.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Bill Priestap and the James Comey Entanglement
[OpsLens] So, who is Bill Priestap...and why should you care? Because it’s Game over! for the Democrats. The first thing you need to realize is just how central E.W. "Bill" Priestap is to the entire "Russian Conspiracy" story concocted by the Democrats. The second thing you need to understand is why the absence of his name from the media circus is a cause for concern...for the Democrats.

In short, Priestap is the head of FBI counterintelligence operations. As FBI Assistant Director in charge of counterintelligence, Bill Priestap was immediate supervisor of Peter Strzok. Therein lies the lynchpin that can cause the entire house of cards to collapse.

For those of you who don’t know, Peter Strzok was the leader of the FBI’s investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election. The same Peter Strzok whose text messages clearly showed a bias against Donald Trump.

The investigation into then-presidential candidate Donald Trump was, in fact, a counterintelligence operation. That operation began in July 2016. As such, Bill Priestap would be directly in charge of that operation along with all other FBI counterintelligence operations. Meaning, Peter Strzok reported directly to Bill Preistap. This is important because, under current FBI structure and policy, Strzok would be reporting every detail of the investigation and would not be able to make any move without Priestap’s approval.

Strzok would have needed to go to Priestap to get authorization to engage with Christopher Steele over the "Russian Dossier." Priestap would be the one to approve of the underlying investigative process used for both FISA applications (June 2016 and October 2016). Bill Priestap would also be the one to approve of arranging, paying, or even reimbursing Christopher Steele for the Russian Dossier.

#1  This entire FBI, DoJ, FISA, Trump thing has scared the crap out of me.

While I was scared because of the earlier revelations and putting it up against arming of formerly benign and administrative three letter agencies (deliberate because no one really watches BLM), promotion of awarding the citizen rights of voting to illegal aliens bribed into the US with the promise of welfare benefits and higher pay for menial tasks. THIS latest stuff is historically frightening...especially given how both Lenin and Adolph came to power using intelligence and the police against the opposition.

The more I look at it, the end game was, as I have said before, establishment of a totalitarian democratic party state, with Hillary to fully implement the programs started by Obama...Hillary screwed the Obama pooch and showed her true colors and corruption...and Trump got elected.

Now all of those agencies that Obama infected with his burrowed in political appointees are working full time to overturn the administration of an elected President.

This is more scary to me than the Cuban Missile Crisis.

#3  The FBI and Department of Homeland Security say hackers from the GRU, the Russian intelligence service, successfully attacked the computers of the Illinois State Board of Elections. Of 7.9 million registered Illinois voters, the state Board of Elections told Fox News that a total of 76,000 Illinois voters may have had their information viewed, with the greatest number of them -- 14,121 -- being Galesburg residents.
"The FBI considered this a very grave threat," Bill Priestap, assistant director of the FBI's counterintelligence division, told the Senate Intelligence Committee last year about the cyberattack.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Why the FBI Is Dodging Nunes
h/t No Pasaran
[Spectator] The left used to get very worked up about the CIA’s interference in foreign elections. Liberals would quote solemnly the work of Philip Agee, a CIA turncoat who wrote articles and books about the agency’s manipulation of this or that foreign election. But these days ACLU-style liberals shrug at the meddling of John Brennan’s CIA in the 2016 American election, mischief that the FBI is still trying to conceal.

It was reported recently that the FBI refuses to show Congressman Devin Nunes an unredacted copy of the origination document that triggered the probe into the Trump campaign. What is the FBI hiding? Paradoxically, nothing ‐ that is, no classified information showing collusion between Trump and Russia. The FBI is simply trying to hide the embarrassingly partisan origins of its spying on the Trump campaign.

Were the redactions covering material harmful to Trump, that material would have been leaked by now. So the redactions can only be concealing the fingerprints of Hillary’s partisans in the Obama administration. The FBI will eventually have to fess up to the politicization to which it succumbed ‐ that the most virulent Hillary partisan imaginable, John Brennan, had put pressure on FBI officials to start the probe, that a Trump hater, Peter Strzok, formally opened up the probe, that the smears of a paid opposition researcher for Hillary, Christopher Steele, contributed to the probe, that scandalous "intelligence-sharing" between Brennan and foreign intelligence agencies shaped the probe, and that FBI officials suspected the probe was unfounded but pursued it anyways at the insistence of Obama officials.

The FBI says it is redacting "sensitive information." That’s true in an ironic sense: the FBI is very sensitive about the information, in that it illuminates the agency’s transformation into an opposition research shop for the Hillary campaign. Take her partisans out of the picture and the probe would never have started.

#1  The British intelligence, in cahoots with Brennan and Christopher Steele (who was on Hillary’s payroll), figured largely into this mischief. In all likelihood it will come out that the “information” British intelligence shared with Brennan was just recycled Steele material. The “allies tipped us off to Trump-Russian collusion” storyline is a sham, designed to distract attention from a chain of Hillary partisans who in the thick of a campaign were circulating smears among themselves and calling it “intelligence sharing.”

'Brennan'.... there's that name again.

Liberman: A festival of hypocrisy
h/t Gates of Vienna
[IsraelNationalNews] Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman addressed yesterday's violent riots at the Gaza border fence Saturday night.

"The Passover holiday, which ends at this hour, was one of the quietest and safest we have known in recent years. Our preparations at the Gaza border have proven themselves, and the Israeli people owe great thanks to the thousands of IDF soldiers, Shin Bet and police officers who worked very hard and thwarted any attempt to challenge us," Liberman said.

"Hamas sends terrorists under the guise of civilians to attack our sovereignty, but the world presents this terror parade as a civil protest. This is a festival of hypocrisy. Over the weekend, Assad massacred 48 civilians, including 8 children and 6 women. The UN secretary-general did not call for a commission of inquiry, the Security Council did not convene, the Arab League ignored it, and the BBC, of course, did not see or hear anything," he added.

The death toll in the demonstrations in the Gaza Strip against the security fence rose to nine Saturday, with the deaths of two of the injured, including Yasser Murtha, shot in the stomach near Khan Yunis and who Arab sources claim was a journalist.

A total of 1,356 people were injured, 35 of them seriously, according to a statement issued last night. 399 of them hit by live ammunition, 16 by rubber bullets, 143 suffered injuries from gas inhalation and 25 were struck by shrapnel.

Three hunters are out on safari -- an American, a Brit and an Israeli. They are captured by cannibals who start getting the cooking pots ready. The cannibal chief tells the hunters they can have one last wish.

"What's your last request?" he asks the American.

"I'd like a steak," he replies.

So the cannibals kill a zebra and serve the American his steak.

"What do you want?" the cannibal chief asks the Brit.

"I'd like to have a smoke on my pipe," which they let him do.

Then the chief asks the Israeli: "What's your last wish?"

"I want you to kick my rear end."

"Be serious," says the top cannibal.

"C'mon, you promised," says the Israeli.

"Oh, all right," says the chief, who delivers the requested kick. Whereupon, the Israeli pulls out a gun, shoots the chief and a few other cannibals while the rest run away.

The American and Brit are furious.

"Why didn't you do that in the first place, so we wouldn't have had to go through all this?" they demand.

Replies the Israeli: "What? Are you mad? The UN would have condemned me as the aggressor.

Adult Neurogenesis – A Pointed Review
h/t Instapundit

We had this article a few days ago about neuron growth in adults. Turns out there dozens of publications with thousands of citations - and it's all b*llshit
[SlateStarCodex] Gage’s Neurogenesis In The Adult Brain, published in the Journal Of Neuroscience and cited 834 times, begins:

A milestone is marked in our understanding of the brain with the recent acceptance, contrary to early dogma, that the adult nervous system can generate new neurons. One could wonder how this dogma originally came about, particularly because all organisms have some cells that continue to divide, adding to the size of the organism and repairing damage. All mammals have replicating cells in many organs and in some cases, notably the blood, skin, and gut, stem cells have been shown to exist throughout life, contributing to rapid cell replacement. Furthermore, insects, fish, and amphibia can replicate neural cells throughout life. An exception to this rule of self-repair and continued growth was thought to be the mammalian brain and spinal cord. In fact, because we knew that microglia, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes all normally divide in the adult and respond to injury by dividing, it was only neurons that were considered to be refractory to replication. Now we know that this long accepted limitation is not completely true

Subsequent investigation has found adult neurogenesis in all sorts of brain regions. Wikipedia notes that "In humans, new neurons are continually born throughout adulthood in two regions of the brain: the subgranular zone and the striatum", but adds that "some authors (particularly Elizabeth Gould) have suggested that adult neurogenesis may also occur in regions within the brain not generally associated with neurogenesis including the neocortex", and there’s also some research pointing to the cerebellum.

Some research has looked at the exact mechanism by which neurogenesis takes place; for example, in a paper in Nature cited 1581 times, Song et al determine that astroglia have an important role in promoting neurogenesis from FGF-2-dependent stem cells. Other research has tried to determine the rate; for example, Cameron et al (1609 citations) find that there is "a substantial pool of immature granule neurons" that may generate as many as 250,000 new cells per month. Still other research looks at the chemical regulators ‐ a study by Lie et al, cited 1312 times, finds that Wnt3 signaling is involved.

(which is making you more nervous ‐ the fact that I keep emphasizing how many citations these studies have, or the fact that one of the principal investigators is named "Lie"?)

But the most exciting research has been the work identifying the many important roles that neurogenesis plays in the adult brain ‐ roles vital in understanding learning, memory, and disease.

...Fun fact: there’s no such thing as adult neurogenesis in humans.

At least, this is the conclusion of Sorrells et al, who have a new and impressive study in Nature. They look at "59 post-mortem and post-operative slices of the human hippocampus" and find "that recruitment of young neurons to the primate hippocampus decreases rapidly during the first years of life, and that neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus does not continue, or is extremely rare, in adult humans." Also, the subgranular zone, the supposed part of the brain where neurogenesis begins, isn’t even a real structure.
And you expect Truth from politicians, or journalists, or social "scientists"! I thought about tagging it under "Home Front: Culture Wars"

Russian 'hack' of 2016 voter rolls leaves Galesburg, Illinois, reeling
[FoxNews] Galesburg, Ill., appears to be a typical small town, nestled in the farmlands of the Midwest.

But the unassuming slice of the American heartland, which was the site of an Abraham Lincoln-Stephen Douglas debate in 1858, was invaded by the Russians during the 2016 presidential election through a cyberattack on the state's voter registration rolls.

#7  Other stuff gets weird. One guy tried pinto beans in the mid-70s on 1/2 section. Ended up destroying the market as he grew more than Mexico with modern irrigated farming. Sunflower seed is just too much volume to grow any distance from a sunflower oil factory. Other crops have their problems.

#10  Soybeans are fungible like oil, right? So buyers in Europe could turn around and sell to China. When you have a billion people to feed you have to buy food somewhere. The only question is whether the Chinese will end up paying more or less but with the addition of European middlemen my guess would be more.

“Because It’s 2018”: Annotations on the Cultural Marxist Present: Vol. I
BLUF:
[The Anatomically Correct Banana] There is actually no upside to the globalist project; if it works, then we will have re-created what we had before mass Third World immigration just with lots of different races and religions. If it doesn’t, the civilized world dies and a new Dark Age descends.
1838 Painting of a Zulu attack on the "Voortrekker" camp at Bloukrans, by Charles Bell 1813-1882
If things completely fall apart, who would even take us? Where are native Europeans and the Eurowestern Diaspora supposed to go? As we’ve witnessed with the universal cold shoulder given white South Africans, with not a single nation deigning to grant them refugee status while the West hands out asylum like promotional fliers on the Vegas strip to every Khalid, Mahmoud, and Mohammed, it must become do or die. Immigrants have their home countries that they theoretically could always return to, but they are coming into our home countries. There is nowhere else for us to go. Action must be taken now, for even the strongest man will eventually meet a weight he cannot lift.

John Bolton's Appointment Rattles The Muslim Brotherhood Echo Chamber
[The Federalist] The attacks on former ambassador John Bolton following his appointment as National Security Advisor (NSA) have inadvertently served as some of his strongest endorsements.

First there were the hysterical cries of "neocon warmonger!" This would come as news to the NSA-designate, who was never a "liberal mugged by reality" but a self-identified "Goldwater conservative" from the start; explicitly rejects the belief in democracy-building as imperative to achieving America’s national interest under democratic peace theory; and suggests, exaggerating for effect, that following the removal of Saddam Hussein, as soon as practicable he would have told the Iraqis, "You’re on your own. Here’s a copy of the Federalist papers. Good luck."

Although the "neocon warmonger" moniker is inapt, to say the least, maybe it is not such a bad thing if our enemies buy this line. In fact, this may be part of President Trump’s strategic rationale as a dealmaker for elevating a "peace-through-strength" realist portrayed as a cantankerous cowboy to the top of the National Security Council.

Then followed another narrative: Bolton is not only a real-life Dr. Strangelove, but worse. He is actually an adroit bureaucrat‐"crazy and dangerous." Then-senator Joe Biden, a man prone to malapropism, actually put it best when, in Bolton’s retelling, Biden said of him in 2005: "My problem with you, over the years, has been, you’re too competent. I mean, I would rather you be stupid and not very effective."

But the truly revelatory attacks concern Bolton’s positions on Islamic supremacism, which reflect an understanding that jihadists pose a mortal threat that must be countered using every element of national power. You know these attacks are meaningful partly because they have been made under cover of a smear campaign.

Twitter CEO Shares And Raves About Article Calling For Dem Victory In Second ‘Civil War'
[Daily Caller] Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey aroused controversy after labeling a Medium article "great" that claimed there’s no "bipartisan way forward" in the United States and that the country is engaged in a "fundamental conflict between two worldviews that must be resolved in short order."

Dorsey shared the Medium article on his personal Twitter account Thursday night, with the accompanying acclaim that it was a "great read."

Author and media consultant Peter Leyden and political commentator Ruy Teixeira argued in the article titled "The Great Lesson of California in America’s New Civil War" that America is already in the midst of a second major domestic conflict of sorts and the way out is for the rest of the country to imitate California.

"In this current period of American politics, at this juncture in our history, there’s no way that a bipartisan path provides the way forward," they wrote. "The way forward is on the path California blazed about 15 years ago."

Essentially, the authors called for a complete marginalization of the Republican Party and its voters since they only care "about rule by and for billionaires at the expense of working people" and not "average citizens."

Government
Swamp Creatures Are TERRIFIED Of What Ben Carson Is Doing To Clean Up HUD
[Daily Caller] It’s been a year since Dr. Ben Carson was confirmed as Secretary for Housing and Urban Development. For most of its existence HUD is the cabinet-level agency probably best known for management challenges and the occasional corruption scandal involving local government officials abusing funds.

Liberals love HUD, because it hands out billions of dollars in the name of social justice. Not coincidentally, the money is often hard to account for, which is why it often ends up in the pocket of corrupt officials.

HUD has a long history of mismanagement and neglect. The agency’s financial statements are such a mess that the agency’s own Inspector General couldn’t complete an internal audit of the agency’s books. In fact, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report in 2016, based on numerous HUD IG and GAO audits over a 15-year period, in which it reported that the agency failed to implement multiple financial accountability recommendations. Additionally, the agency seemingly ignored recommendations to dedicate staff and implement and enforce policies to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.

This level of institutional corruption is the very essence of the swamp. And indeed, the swamp dwellers are fighting to keep things the way they were.

Then Ben Carson moved in and started turning things around.

That's how they start. Then they bring in auditing teams from Anderson, to 'capture workflow efficiencies'. Then outsourcing is proposed and AA makes a bid. Staff augmentation starts with AA bench players then the middle manager layoffs begin so AA can 'clear the line of sight'.

Good luck with all of that after the downsizing and privatizing.

Starr: ‘Looks Like, Increasingly,' Mueller Is ‘Investigating the Russian Invasion of the US Political System, and Not Collusion'
[Breitbart] On Saturday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s "Fox & Friends," former Whitewater Special Counsel Ken Starr stated that it appears as though Special Counsel Robert Meuller is investigating Russia’s "invasion of the United States political system," and not Russian collusion.

Starr said, "[I]t looks like, increasingly, he’s investigating the Russian invasion of the United States political system, and not collusion. We just don’t have ‐ we’re at sort of the black box behind the veil of ignorance, but we still have seen no evidence of collusion. But he sure seems to be investigating the Russian invasion."

McDowell told Breitbart News Saturday, "Our national security folks told me ’Do not sign up for that.’ I wasn’t on Twitter and I wasn’t on Facebook. GOP Rep Meadows: If Rosenstein Doesn't Turn Over Docs, We Will Move to Impeach
[Breitbart] Saturday, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) said that if Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein does not turn over the unredacted documents requested by Congress related to FISA, FBI and more then impeachment could be in order.

"Rod Rosenstein can call Michael Horowitz, who has the documents, and say just give them to Congress. If he doesn’t do that ... there is a growing consensus of holding them in contempt of Congress, but it’s not enough to stop there. We have to have someone willing to do the job. If the deputy attorney general is not willing to do it and not willing to allow us to have our Constitutional Oversight Authority supported, then we’ll find someone who can," said Meadows on Fox News Channel’s "Justice."

He added, "I think that if he does not turn over the documents, that there are a growing number of us on Capitol Hill who believe that someone else needs to do the job. And what happens there is, Constitutionally, we have some things that we can do."

Meadows went on to explain that the documents already show that there was coordination with the Barack Obama White House and with the state department, adding that the Department of Justice and the FBI have been hiding such information from Congress for months.

POTUS Tees Off On FBI And DOJ For Missing Clinton, Russia Document Deadline
[Daily Caller] President Donald Trump berated the FBI and Justice Department on Saturday, accusing the agencies of "stalling" and "slow walking" the handover of documents to Congress.

"What does the Department of Justice and FBI have to hide?" Trump asked in a mid-afternoon tweet.

"Why aren’t they giving the strongly requested documents (unredacted) to the HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE? Stalling, but for what reason? Not looking good!" he wrote.

He added in another tweet that House Judiciary Committee members were "angrily accusing" the Justice Department of missing a deadline set for Thursday to hand over 1.2 million documents related to several different matters. The committee requested documents about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email investigation, about the FBI and DOJ’s applications for surveillance warrants against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, as well as a report from the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility recommending the firing of Andrew McCabe as the FBI’s deputy director.

"Slow walking ‐ what is going on? BAD!" said Trump, who has blasted the agencies on Twitter in the past.

But given that Trump is the Executive and the GOP controls both houses, there is a whiff of kabuki in all this.

[Ynet] Arab journalists, MKs hold up photos of Paleostinian journalist Yaser Murtaja, who was killed in Gazoo festivities on Friday, saying 'Israel killed him and stole his dreams'; Abed Masarwa from Wadi Ara warns that 'Arabs in such situations are like a ticking bomb that could blow up in the face of such a fascist

government.'

Some 1,500 people, including Arab members of Knesset, participated in a protest march in Sakhnin on Saturday in solidarity with the Paleostinians in Gazoo.

Marchers were waving Paleostinian flags and calling out "Gazoo residents are heroes," "Oh martyr, rest and we will continue the struggle."

Arab journalists and MKs held up the photo of Yaser Murtaja, a Paleostinian journalist killed during the festivities on the Gazoo border on Friday, which also claimed the lives of eight others.

The photos Murtaja bore the writing "Yaser Murtaja, a journalist from Gazoo that Israel killed and stole his dreams."

"Hurting six journalists, wounding them with gunfire and killing Murtaja while he's taking photos away from the fence, indicates decisions and orders that were manifestly illegal," said journalist Wadi Ouadah from Kafr Kanna.

He called on Israeli journalists "to raise their voice in protest of the harm done to their Paleostinian colleagues, while they were identifiable as journalists."

"This is a human, moral and ethical obligation of the Israeli journalists to protest and join all seekers of justice and peace, those with conscience and mind. They must ask for an investigation to check who bears responsible for this grave crime," Ouadah added.

Another participant said that "the IDF conduct in Gazoo is unacceptable and inhumane. What do they expected from a people under siege for over nine years, without work or livelihood, with no possibility of leaving, flying abroad, traveling and living their lives. Every few hours they have a power outage, even when it's hot or cold."

She claimed Gazoo was under occupation because it was under siege. "What do you want from a people living under a harsh and cruel blockade? A people like that could sacrifice their lives for freedom," she argued.

Abed Masarwa from Wadi Ara said what's happening to the Gazoo residents "is called genocide. They're being eliminated like cockroaches. Like there is no value for civilians there. But they have a right to live. This government continues making it hard on Gazoo and its residents and causes their situation to deteriorate."

He vowed that "We, the Arabs of 1948, will not stand idly by. Leave Gazoo, stay away from it. The Arabs in such situations are like a ticking bomb that could blow up in the face of such a fascist government."

The demonstration was organized by High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel.

97 illegals are arrested in immigration raid at TN meat processing plant
[MAIL] A federal immigration raid that took 97 people into custody at a Tennessee meat processing plant is the largest employment crackdown under President Donald Trump's administration, civil rights activists said Friday.

Eleven people were arrested on criminal charges and 86 were detained for being in the country illegally, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Tammy Spicer said in a statement Friday.

The Thursday raid on Southeastern Provision, a meat processing plant in Bean Station in eastern Tennessee, is the largest single worksite immigration enforcement action since the administration of President George W. Bush, said Jessie Hahn, labor and employment policy attorney at the National Immigration Law Center.

'This is part of the stepped-up Trump mass deportation enforcement agenda for sure,' Hahn said.

Hank the Cowdog: Book 71
'The Case of the Monster Fire'

John R. Erickson
Maverick Books, 2018
Illustrated by Gerald L. Holmes

Mr. Erickson is a storyteller from Texas who has been writing Hank the Cowdog books for decades. This is his 71st book, no small accomplishment. It is writing for younger children - boys tend to take a liking to it, but my daughter sure loves them too. The stories are told from the view of Hank, head of ranch security, and involve many different characters such as his human, Slim, and his dog buddy, Drover, who come and go throughout the stories.

Page 14

Bam Bam Bam!

Yipes, somebody was banging on the door! Well, We'd gotten an Alert from DC and our procedures were very clear. Make no assumptions about intruders until we see some ID and clear them through Security. As far as I was concerned, we had come under attack.

I went straight into Sirens and Lights. "on your feet, Drover, battle stations, Red Alert, we've got Charlies on the porch!"

You know, I get a kick out of waking him up. Hee Hee. I mean, he started running before he got his eyes open, before his feet even hit the floor, and all four legs were pumping air.

"Help, murder, mayday, Charlies on the porch!"
"On your feet, soldier, and load up Number Three Warning Barks!"

Mr. Erickson resides in the Texas panhandle as was deeply affected by the Perryton fire outbreak of 2016. In fact, he lost his home. Four youngsters lost their lives trying to save their animals. This book is based on the happenings of March 6, 2017, as Mr. Erickson attempts to summarize those events.

Page 36

Our Normal Procedure calls for the dog to follow his people wherever they go, whether that's rom to room or out on the porch, and to show some interest in their lives. We follow them because we care

But he ruined that by screeching at me and telling me to dry up, and I no longer cared. Dogs have feelings too. We're not just furniture.

He came back into the house. "That's a bad wind."
Did I care? No. I turned by back on him.
He noticed. "Hey pooch, it's liable to be a bad day for fires."

Oh, he wanted his dog back now, someone to sit there and listen to him ramble about wind and fire. Too bad.

For a children's book - and me still, I guess - it is a bit difficult, yet Mr. Erickson captures so much of those events in a very simple, modest fashion.

Page 89-90

Slim shook his head. They got into Loper's pickup and we dogs hopped in the back, and drove to the county road, where two big trucks were parked with their motors running.

The driver of the first truck, a nice red Pete, rolled down his window. "There do you want this hay?"

"What hay? Who are you?"

"We're from Garden City, Kansas, heard about the wildfires and figured you could use some hay. We'll be back tomorrow with more."

Loper jumped on the running board and shook his hand. "Brother, you don't know how glad I am to see you! Our world is upside-down."

"Man, this place looks like the moon! I'm sure sorry about your loss."

We led the trucks to the stack lot. Instead of unload ing the bales one at a time and putting them into a neat stack, Loper used the tractor to push the bales off the trailer into a big pile. That got the truckers back on the road, and Slim and Loper went to work loading both pickups with hay.

They were in the midst of doing that when three pickups pulled in, neighbors whose ranches hadn't burned. They showed up in work clothes and said, "Tell us what to do." Loper seemed a little confused at first, then said, "Load up with hay and drive until you find hungry cattle. Feed 'em, come back, load up, and do it again."

Absolutely true. If it were not for the actions of the agriculture community across this nation, tens of thousands of cattle would have starved. And again in Montana. And in California. And flood relief in Texas and Florida.

Fun books for the youngsters, and a good way to spend a couple hours waiting in line at the dentist or wherever.

Afghan forces thwart rocket attack plot on Kabul city
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have thwarted a plot by the anti-government armed Death Eaters to carry out a rocket attack on Kabul.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials said Friday that the Death Eaters were looking to target the city with a BM-1 rocket from Chahar Asiab district.

The officials further added that the rocket along with a mobile phone device was discovered from the vicinity of Char Asiab district before the Death Eaters manage to carry out an attack.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials said Wednesday that the Afghan cops have confiscated a cache containing ammunition for heavy weapons during an operation in Kabul city.

According to the officials, the cache was discovered during an operation in the vicinity of the 13th police district of the city.

The officials further added that the Afghan forces confiscated three rounds of 822mm mortar, two artillery rounds, six rounds of heavy anti-aircraft gun munitions, and seven other type of mortar rounds from the cache.

The CID officials also added that the Death Eaters were looking to use the munitions to carry out terrorist related activities in the city.

ANA release new facts as Kunduz airstrike sparks rare uproar in Pakistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan Military said Friday that the latest findings of the Afghan national Army (ANA) reveals that five senior Pakistain military advisors supporting the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
were among those killed in Kunduz Arclight airstrike as the raid has sparked an unprecedented uproar in Pakistain.

According to the Shaheen Corps, the Pak advisors had apparently visited Dasht-e-Archi district to help coordinate the future spring offensive of the Taliban as well as helping the group to establish contacts with the certain regional countries.

Although the civilian deaths in Kunduz airstrike remains a disputed issue so far with investigations underway regarding the airstrike and civilian casualties, the unprecedented uproar in Pakistain has came as a matter utter surprise.

The current affairs observers, media outlets and activists are saying that the uproar regarding the airstrike in Pakistain is a complete surprise considering the silence of the protesters regarding the deadly attacks of the Taliban in Kabul and other provinces which claimed the lives of hundreds of ordinary civilians.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Defense officials are saying that the airstrike was carried out a main stronghold of the Taliban group in Dasht-e-Archi district which was also being used as the training camp by the group.

According to the defense officials, the raid was conducted based on accurate intelligence information and as a result several Taliban Lions of Islam including eighteen of their leaders were killed.

In regards to the civilian casualties, the Ministry of Defense front man Gen. Radmanish said the Afghan army helicopters attacked the the compound with rockets but the civilians sustained casualties from small fire arms.

According to Gen. Radmanish, the Talibs initially opened fire on army helicopters after their base was attacked with rockets and later opened fire on civilians.

Brothers accused of cutting off sister’s legs over property dispute
[DAWN] A woman was allegedly subjected to brutal violence by her brothers in Khanewal on Saturday following a property dispute.

The victim, a local farm worker, had reportedly demanded that her brothers hand over her share of an inherited property. Upon facing rejection, she had threatened she would sue for her rights in court.

Before she could do so, however, her brothers allegedly came for her while she was harvesting wheat at a farm. Her legs were chopped off with an axe, the victim told police at District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Khanewal. A doctor at the hospital said the victim's bones had been separated from her body.

She had been found by rescue officials in a severely injured condition and taken to DHQ Hospital Khanewal for treatment. The doctor there worried the injuries would most likely prove fatal, after which she was transferred to Multan

Makhdoompur police have begun an investigation after recording the woman’s statement and have initiated a search to find the accused. However,

From Ankara to Moscow, Eurasia integration is on the move
Disclaimer - I really posted this article just because of the photo!
[Atimes] The Russia-led Eurasia Economic Union is spreading its wings and gaining strength, with some key projects, big players and big plans in the pipeline.

As presidents Vladimir Putin, Hassan Rouhani and Recep Tayyip Erdogan met in Ankara for a second Russia-Iran-Turkey summit on the future of Syria, Moscow hosted its 7th International Security Conference attended by defense ministers from dozens of nations.

A more graphic illustration of the synchronicity drive towards Eurasia integration would be hard to find.

Crucially, China sent not only a high-ranking delegation to Moscow, but most of all a loud and clear message. General Wei Fenghe, the new Chinese Defense Minister, side by side with Russian counterpart Sergey Shoigu, said: “The Chinese side came to let the Americans know about the close ties between the Russian and Chinese armed forces.” Shoigu, for his part, underlined the “special character” of the Russia-China partnership.
So it's COLD-WAR II?
And then Iran’s Defense Minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami, expanded the scope, saying “foreign plans” related to security in the Middle East would inevitably fail – they must be hatched within Southwest Asia.

What happened in Moscow necessarily must be crossed over with what happened in Ankara.

For the Ankara meeting, the foreign ministers of Russia (Sergey Lavrov), Iran (Mohammad Javad Zarif) and Turkey (Mevlut Cavusoglu) met in Astana in early April to prepare the terrain.

The final joint statement is unmistakable, emphasizing their common commitment to the sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity of Syria.

The fact that Ankara is Putin’s first foreign trip after reelection speaks volumes.

Northern Syria, however, remains a much trickier proposition, as we have a de facto NATO versus NATO subplot; Turkish troops versus the YPG Kurds, a proxy US force.

The fact that the SAA-Russia offensive in eastern Ghouta happened in parallel to the neo-Orwellian Operation Olive Branch by the Turks in the Kurdish canton of Afrin spells out a complex Russia-Iran-Turkey deal worked out in Astana – as diplomats confirmed to Asia Times.

With the prospect of Syrian reconstruction finally at hand, Beijing will turbo-charge its plans to turn Syria into a key Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) node.

According to Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi, nearly US$1 billion worth of agreements on energy, trade and finance have already been signed. Previously, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad promised that nations which helped Syria fight terrorism “have the right to be at the forefront” of those restoring the country’s economy.

That means, essentially, Russia, Iran and China. It remains to be seen what role – if any – will be played by Erdogan’s new Ottomanism.

Ala. teen turns down 25-year plea deal, gets sentenced to 65 years instead - and laughs
[FOXNEWS] An Alabama teen laughed Thursday as a judge sentenced him to 65 years in prison for murder and theft after he rejected a plea deal that would have given him 25 years behind bars.
Another story about feral youths with funny names...
Lakeith Smith, 18, of Montgomery, Ala., was sentenced to 65 years by Judge Sibley Reynolds for “felony murder, armed burglary, second-degree theft and third-degree theft,” FOX8 LIVE reported.
"Hey, yo! Jhavarske! Let's go burgle somebody's house!"
Smith smiled and laughed
"Hyuk yuk yuk!"
while being sentenced at the Elmore County courthouse. He had turned down a plea deal that would have recommended he spend 25 years in prison on the charges.
"Hey, yo! Mister DA! I don't need no measly 25 years! Gimme some significant time!"
“I don’t think Mr. Smith will be smiling long when he gets to prison,” C.J. Robinson, chief assistant district attorney, said. “We are very pleased with this sentence. Because the sentences are consecutive, it will be a long time before he comes up for even the possibility for parole, at least 20 to 25 years.”
"Hey, yo! Jedge! I can do twenty years standin' on my head!"
Judge Reynolds said Smith seemed to show no remorse for his crimes during the trial and did not apologize. He also overhead the teen say, “I don’t have time for this.”
Actually, it was "Hey, yo! I don't have time for dis schnitt!"
“You got plenty of time for this,” Reynolds told Smith before announcing the sentence. “When I called the case earlier you said you ain’t got time for this, so I didn’t know if you had time for this now?”
"Hey, yo! I showed up, dint I?"
Smith laughed and said he did not know Reynolds heard his comment.
"Hyuk yuk yuk! Hey, yo! Jedge! You be eavesdroppin' on me?"
“You just don’t get it, do you?” Reynolds asked.
"Get whut?"
"He hasn't said I'm sorry yet. He hasn't acknowledged to this court that he shouldn't have done, shouldn't have come around, in fact, his attitude toward this court and life, in general, has been sour.”
"Hey, yo!..."
"Shuddup."

Smith’s grandfather pleaded with the judge and the teen to give him a chance to apologize.
"Please let him apologize, jedge! He ain't a bad boy. He's just a nitwit."
“He’s had every opportunity,” Reynolds said. "I’ve asked two or three times today.”
"Hey, yo! Apologize fer whut?"
“Are you sorry?” the grandfather asked Smith. The teenager replied that he was.
"I'm really sorry I got caught!"
Smith was charged under Alabama’s accomplice law, “which holds co-defendants can be guilty of murder if a death occurs when they are committing a crime,” the Montgomery Adviser reported.
"Hey, yo! Accomplices! A'Donte be dead!"
"Dead? A'Donte ain't got time to be dead!"

On Feb. 23, 2015, Smith, along with four other people, broke into two homes in Millbrook. Police responded to calls of the robberies, and the suspects fired at the officer who entered the home they were raiding.
"You in the house! Yer surrounded! Come out witcher hands up!"
"Hey, yo! Youse'll never take us alive! [BANG! BANG! BANGETY BANG!]"

The suspects fled the home but continued to fire at the officer.
[BANG! BANG! et cetera...]
One of the suspects, A’Donte Washington, 16, of Montgomery, who was armed with a revolver, allegedly pointed a gun at the officer, body cam footage showed. The officer fired at the teenager, killing him.
[BANG!]
"Aaaiiieee! I ain't got time for... for... rosebud!"

Smith was charged with Washington’s death despite not firing the shots due to the accomplice law. A grand jury cleared the officer who fired the shots at Washington.
"Dat ain't no gun! Dat's a egg sammitch!"
"Looks like his egg sammitch was out of ammunition!"

The other suspects, Jhavarske Jackson, 23, Jadarien Hardy, 22 and La’Anthony Washington, 22, entered guilty pleas of “felony murder, burglary and theft” but have not been sentenced yet.
"Hey, yo! We'll take da plea bargain!"
“Standing there in court, I couldn’t help but have compassion for his grandfather, for his family," Robinson said. “Because of his stupidity, they have lost him for 65 years.”
"I'll be waitin' fer yez when yez come out, sonny!"
"Hey, yo! Thanks, grampaw!"

Classic in-lines, Fred!

Iraq
Turkish jets bombard Kurdistan’s Bradost area
[Rudaw] ERBIL, Kurdistan Region ‐ Ottoman Turkish jets have bombarded the Bradost area of the Kurdistan Region.

Rudaw’s correspondent in the local area reported that at least three villages were targeted in the action. There are no immediate reports of casualties.

The Bradost area is in northern Erbil province, near the borders with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Iran.

Earlier on Saturday, Turkey’s military claimed to have "neutralized" six PKK fighters during air operations against alleged PKK positions in the Khakurk area in Bradost.

The military reported "neutralizing" 108 "terrorists" in the past week across Kurdish areas of southeastern Turkey and across the border into the Kurdistan Region, Anadolu Agency reported.

Turkey’s military uses the term "neutralized" to refer to those killed, injured, or otherwise removed from the battlefield.

The People’s Defence Force (HPG), the armed wing of the PKK, reported killing 12 Ottoman Turkish soldiers over Friday and Saturday, attacking Ottoman Turkish units on the move in the Bradost area.

The HPG’s press office said that "heavy fighting continues," in a statement carried by ANF news. They accuse Turkey of bombing "indiscriminately" and "targeting the civilian areas in the region, seeking to make the people migrate and depopulate the region."

Ottoman Turkish forces have pushed at least 20 kilometers into the Kurdistan Region in a military operation against alleged PKK positions since March 10.

The PKK has its headquarters in the Kurdistan Region’s Qandil Mountains.

Pakistan calls on Afghan Taliban to join peace process
[Al Jazeera] Pakistain and Afghanistan have called upon the Afghan Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
to join a new grinding of the peace processor in the war-torn country, after a visit by the Pak prime minister to his country's northwestern neighbour, a statement said.

Pak Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
called upon the Taliban to avail the Afghan government's latest offer of direct talks without delay, according to a statement released by the Pak PM's office late on Friday.

"Both leaders called on the Taliban to respond positively to the peace offer and join the grinding of the peace processor without further delay," said the statement. "They agreed that there was no military solution to the ongoing Afghan conflict and that the political solution was the best way forward."

In February, Ghani offered to reopen negotiations with the Afghan Taliban "without preconditions", despite ongoing attacks.

He offered to recognise the group as a political party, and proposed a ceasefire and exchange of prisoners in a bid to begin a process that could end more than 16 years of war.

The Taliban have not yet officially responded to that offer.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Stigma Stigmata
A taste:
[The Anatomically Correct Banana] If you import the Third World, you become the Third World. It really is that simple.

A facility in Artesia, New Mexico, meant to house illegal aliens’ families, offers a glimpse in microcosm of what the United States is allowing to pass through its indefensibly undefended southern border. Per the Washington Times:

Communicable diseases continue to be a problem at the New Mexico facility built to house illegal immigrant families surging across the U.S.-Mexico border, and the immigrants themselves aren’t taking their own health care very seriously, according to an audit. “Family unit illnesses and unfamiliarity with bathroom facilities continued to result in unsanitary conditions,” Inspector General John Roth wrote in a memo to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. Mr. Roth said the illnesses—which put the facility in Artesia, New Mexico, on lockdown earlier this year, preventing any immigrants from being transferred in or out—have proved to be a continuing problem. Part of the issue is the immigrants themselves, some of whom have never seen a doctor before, don’t follow up afterward, either for themselves or their children.[2]

Unfamiliarity with bathroom facilities? This is what we’re allowing to occur on our own soil—adults who are not potty trained. This is absolutely disgusting, and it facilitates the spread of diseases like E. coli and Hepatitis A. Incidentally, California is at present wrestling with a huge Hepatitis A outbreak originating in San Diego County, most likely attributable to a) the burgeoning homeless population the state ignores, and b) unchecked illegals inter-mingling—and for both, a lack of access to and/or unwillingness to use public toilet facilities. The outbreak has spread as far afield as Sacramento, and at least six hundred people have been infected. Hepatitis A is most commonly spread by feces-to-mouth contact, often through contaminated food. According to Dr. Monique Foster of the CDC: “It’s not unusual for [outbreaks] to last quite some time—usually over a year.” As Santa Cruz public health manager Jessica Randolph states: “I don’t think the worst is over.”

Woman dead, 3 injured in cross-LoC rocket attack by Indian forces in Kotli district
[DAWN] Indian troops on Saturday shot a rocket launcher from across the Line of Control (LoC), leaving a young woman dead and her two siblings and a cousin critically maimed in a border village of Azad Jammu and Kashmire (AJK), officials told Dawn.

The attack took place when the victims were outdoors in Baig Wala Lanjot, a hamlet barely 150 metres away from the LoC in Nakyal sector of Kotli district, during the afternoon.

According to Abdul Hameed Kiani, the deputy commissioner of Kotli, 26-year old Rubaida Khayam, daughter of Sardar Khayam, died as a result of the attack. The victim's sisters Sufaida Khayam and Zubaiba, and cousin Sumaida Ismail were critically injured.

Nakyal Assistant Commissioner Waleed Anwar said the victims had no idea that the enemy could stoop so low as to fire a rocket launcher on them while they were busy in domestic chores.

He said the injured persons had been moved to Kotli's District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

Cross-LoC shelling was not reported from any other area or sector of Kotli district, "but you never know when and where the cowardice enemy may resort to ceasefire violations," Kiani said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Rebels and civilians used tunnels to survive the near total destruction of Ghouta
[DAWN] ALL battles and bombardments share their secrets one by one. Eastern Ghouta is no different. Why the sudden, savage bombardment of these Syrian towns and villages more than three weeks ago? Why the wasteland of homes and streets ‐ and how did so many of the civilians survive, along with hundreds of Islamist button men?

You can do no better that start your enquiry in a front line dugout near Arbeen, on the old and now war-smashed international highway between Damascus and Aleppo. It is protected by oil barrels of solid concrete, an iron roof, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, a couple of rifles and a rusting cycle of violence, presumably to carry messages when the lines were cut. "Twenty mortars a day," one of the Syrian soldiers says, rolling his eyes.

And now it is over, he hopes. But ‐ aside from the oil lamps and the cups of ’mutta’ tea (an outrageous non-alcoholic brew originating from Argentine plants, which the Syrian army drinks by the pint) ‐ what catches your attention is the absence of a single trench.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Tampa woman slain in Georgia had sought protection from ex-husband
[TAMPABAY] John Wise always said "hello" to neighbor Kelly Garrison, but it wasn’t until they shared some strawberry daiquiris that he ever got to know her.

Barely two minutes after she left his Carrollwood apartment that night, Dec. 30, he heard a scream "like nothing I’ve ever heard before."

It was coming from Garrison’s front door. Wise, 54, kicked it in.

It was dark, but he saw a man wearing a hoodie and a headlamp pinning Garrison down. Her gasps for air sounded like her last.

He kicked the assailant in the head and lifted him off her. The two struggled for several minutes before the attacker fled.

"I was fighting for my life," Wise said.

But Wise wasn’t there Thursday morning when Kelley James McDonald tracked Garrison, his 35-year-old ex-wife, to her sister’s home in Georgia.

In a few horrific moments, McDonald fatally shot both women then himself, orphaning the 2-year-old daughter the couple had together, authorities said.

McDonald, 39, also shot a 16-year-old girl in the home, seriously injuring her, according to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Garrison, who taught elementary grades at Corbett Preparatory School in Carrollwood, was harassed and threatened by her ex-husband for more than two years, according to a petition for protection she filed in Hillsborough County a few days after the Dec. 30 attack.

That led the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to secure a warrant for McDonald’s arrest on charges of breaking and entering and assault, sheriff’s records show. Deputies trying to find him heard from one family member that he was hiding out, the records show.

An injunction granted by the court ordered McDonald to stay at least 300 feet away from Garrison and to surrender any firearms to the Sheriff’s Office.

Four months later, however, McDonald was still at large. On Thursday, he arrived in Dahlonega, Ga., about an hour north of Atlanta, and found his daughter and ex-wife at her sister’s house, Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said at a Thursday afternoon news conference.

"They had left the Florida area to come here and hide for safety and the suspect found them at this location," Jarrad said.

...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
shared Kabul’s concerns with Pak Prime Minister regarding the persistent artillery shelling from the other side of Durand Line on Afghan soil.

The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said President Ghani had serious talks with the Pak Prime Minister regarding the issue.

According to ARG Palace, President Ghani has told the Pak Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi that the current situation is in the favor of anyone, emphasizing that all concerns should be shared through official channels and must be resolved through negotiations.

This comes as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan in a statement said Thursday that the Pak fighter planes dropped four bombs in Shahidan Saro area of Dangam district late on Wednesday.

The statement further added that the Arclight airstrike has caused massive property damages to the residents of the area.

The Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan called the attack a serious violation of the illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan.

The statement by the Foreign Ministry further added that the Islamic Theocratic Republic Afghanistan warns that the continuation of such steps, which are against the international principles and principles of good neighbors, will have dire consequences on bilateral relations of the two countries.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Incident Video: Bulk Carrier Crashes Into Historic Mansion in Bosphorus Strait
We will see how this Maltese flagged freighter has insurance coverage in the near future. As is usual, video of the whole incident was captured nearby.
[gCaptain] A Maltese-flagged bulk carrier crashed into a historic mansion on the shores of Istanbul’s Bosphorus Strait on Saturday after its steering gear failed, according to media reports.

Ship traffic in the strait had been suspended in both directions.

Video from other boats in the area showed the ship, identified as the Vitaspirit, crash into the waterfront mansion. The vessel was later pulled back from the crash site.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, but photos and video showed extensive damage to the historic seaside mansion located under the Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridge.

The Hekimbasi Salih Efendi Mansion has stood on the shores of the Bosphorus Strait since the 18th century and is used to host weddings and concerts, according to the mansion’s website.

Syrian Army reaches southern outskirts of Douma after major advance, chemical attack kills scores
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) made a significant advance in southern Douma, Saturday, seizing several sites from the holy warriors of Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. In Sptember 2013 Saudi Arabia engineered Liwa al-Islam's merger with fifty other more or less Salafist groups as a counterweight to al-Nusra, which the Learned Elders of Islam considered was growing too powereful...
Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army managed to infiltrate Jaish al-Islam’s primary line of defense near the Misraba axis, paving the way for their troops to capture a large number of farms in southern Douma.

According to military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army has managed to reach the southern outskirts of Douma and should be able to reach the first buildings inside the town by Sunday evening.

In addition to their advance in southern Douma, the Syrian Arab Army was also able to capture several points at the western axis of the town.

Suspected chemical attack 'kills scores' in Syria's Douma

[Al Jazeera] A suspected chemical attack in Douma, the last rebel-held stronghold near Syria's capital, Damascus, has killed at least 70 people and affected hundreds, rescue workers have told Al Jazeera.

The White Helmets, a group of rescuers operating in opposition-held areas in Syria, said on Saturday that most of the fatalities were women and kiddies.

"Seventy people suffocated to death and hundreds still suffocating," Raed al-Saleh, head of the White Helmets, told Al Jazeera, adding that the corpse count was expected to rise as many people were at death's door.

Al-Saleh said that chlorine gas, as well as an unidentified but stronger gas, were dropped on Douma.

"White Helmet volunteers are trying to help the people but all what we can do is evacuate them to another areas by foot because most of the vehicles and centres went out of service."

One member of White Helmets told Al Jazeera that an entire family had suffocated to death as they hid in their cellar, trying to seek shelter from air raids and barrel bombs.

Syrian state media denied government forces had used chemical weapons.

[Al Jazeera] Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has demanded the release of two Greek soldiers placed in durance vile

, arguing that they should not be "pawns to blackmail".

"Human life and human freedom are not, and should not be, pawns to power games and blackmail," Tsipras said in a statement to Documento newspaper published on Saturday.

"In the past, we returned Ottoman Turkish soldiers who crossed a few metres into Greece while on patrol. I expect the Ottoman Turkish president to do the same," he said.

The two Greek soldiers are being held in pre-trial detention in Turkey, which accuses the duo of illegally crossing the border on March 2. The soldiers said they lost their way in the fog.

Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency reported last month that "military sketches" were found on a USB stick carried by the soldiers, adding that the soldiers are accused of "espionage".

In addition to the USB, two phones were found on Lieutenant Aggelos Mitretodis and Sergent Dimitrios Kouklatzis, along with a crypto-phone.

Athens contends that Ottoman Turkish authorities have not given adequate details of the charges and on what evidence they are based.

Bangladesh launches billion dollar ‘model’ mosques to counter radicals
[DAWN] Bangladesh has launched a billion-dollar campaign to build hundreds of "model mosques", partly with Saudi funding, to try to counter radical Islam in the Moslem-majority country, officials said on Friday.

Prime Minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and current Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She has been the President of the Bangla Awami League since the Lower Paleolithic. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
, who inaugurated work on nine mosques through a video conference on Thursday, is also trying to bolster links with Moslem groups in an election year, according to analysts.

A bigwig said 560 "model mosques cum cultural centres" would be built in the next 30 months as part of a government attempt to fight extremism.

"In the next one to one and a half months, work on another 100 mosques will begin," Shahmim Afzal, who heads the government Islamic affairs department, said.

They will be used to preach against "distorted Islamic philosophy" of groups such as Bangladesh’s largest opposition Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
and Egypt’s Moslem Brüderbund, the official added.

The country has been fighting Islamist extremism in recent years after Death Eaters carried out attacks on religious minorities, secular activists and foreigners.

Afzal said the centres of worship would be open to women, unlike most of the country’s 300,000 mosques, and would be equipped with libraries and cultural centres. "Each mosque will cost 150 million taka ($1.8 million)," he said.

Southeast Asia
Will Philippines become the next ISIS caliphate?
[Express] After ISIS lost Raqqa to Kurdish and Sunni Arab forces in October last year, there have been many indications that ISIS, or ISIS-inspired entities, are looking to renew their insurgency in the Philippines. As ISIS is driven out of its caliphate in Iraq and Syria, foreign fighters have been arriving in the Philippines with the aim of attacking Filipino towns and recruiting fighters.

Philippines military officials warned that ISIS had put together a small force of around 200 fighters in Mindanao, with the intent of establishing a new caliphate in February. The island could then be used as a launch pad for further attacks in the country.

The U.S. has reportedly spent over $1 billion in assistance to the Philippines over the past eight years, with $85 million being spent on counterterrorism related equipment, training and support.

There are now reportedly 23 armed groups in the Philippines operating under the banner of “ISIS Philippines”. The U.S. State Department has also recently added ISIS Philippines and six other Islamist terror groups to their list of designated terrorists.

It is understood that former US president Barack Obama’s drone-bombing campaign in the Philippines was widely regarded as one of the most effective recruitment tools for groups like ISIS.

On March 10, the US gifted the Philippine military new drones, the Boeing Insitu ScanEagle UAVs, transferred through a US grant of over $13 million, signalling the continuation of a defence cooperation underway in the US-Philippine alliance. This occurred around the same time President Duterte announced that he would not allow Filipino troops to be dragged into more U.S.-led wars unless the country were to face a direct threat.

Around the same time, Duterte stated that the Philippines had not received anything from the U.S. other than “brutality and agony” after “all these years of sacrifice”.
When you put it that way...
But according to Pentagon spokesman Christopher Logan, the U.S.-Philippines relationship is growing stronger as time goes on. He said, “To support these efforts, and at the request of the government of the Philippines, we have enhanced our comprehensive counterterrorism cooperation that supports the Philippine security forces."

Israeli forces kill Palestinian journalist covering Gaza rally
[Al Jazeera] A Paleostinian journalist shot by Israeli forces during a mass demonstration along the Gazoo border has died of his wounds.

Yaser Murtaja, a photographer with the Gazoo-based Ain Media agency, was shot in the stomach in Khuza'a in the south of the Gazoo Strip on Friday, according to the Paleostinian health ministry.

Murtaja, 30, was hit despite wearing a blue flak jacket marked with the word "press", indicating he was a journalist.

Hosam Salem, a photographer at the scene of the incident, told Al Jazeera on Friday that he witnessed Murtaja drop to the ground after being shot by Israeli forces.

"Yaser was filming with his camera next to me when we heard the sound of gunfire," Salem said. "He just fell on the ground and said, 'I've been shot, I've been shot.'"

The Paleostinian Journalists Syndicate said seven other news hounds were maimed in Friday's protest, in what they described as "deliberate crimes committed by the Israeli army".
Ynet adds:
Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Saturday addressed the death of a Paleostinian journalist who was maimed during festivities on the Gazoo border the previous day, arguing that "Anyone who operates multirotor drones over IDF soldiers needs to understand he is endangering himself."

"What we saw over the past two weeks is a parade of terrorism," Lieberman said during Mimouna celebrations in Ashkelon. "Members of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",'s military wing, dressed as civilians, tried to hurt Israel's citizens and its illusory sovereignty, and we won't allow it."

"We saw dozens of cases in which Hamas gunnies used ambulances, dressed up as Red Islamic Thingy workers, and dressed up as journalists," he continued. "We won't take any risks."

Journalist Yaser Murtaja, 30, worked for several Paleostinian media bodies, including Ain Media, a local production company providing materials for foreign press services, including drone footage of the strip. He was a supporter of Hamas

Islamic State militant gives insight into group’s drone industry
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) An Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bad boy has given an insight into the group’s world of drone-making, a vital weapon the forces of Evil relied on in their wars in Iraq and Syria since 2014.

Meeting with the Saudi bad boy, who is locked up in a jail in the Syrian Kurdish town of Dayrik, on the Ottoman Turkish Syrian borders, and managed by the Syrian Democratic Forces, Saudi newspaper Okaz quoted him saying that he joined IS in Syria late 2013 at the age of 16.

"The group obtained the drones, some Chinese- and others U.S.-made, through smuggling from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
". He added that when the Ottoman Turkish borders were closed, smugglers shifted to running the process through the Syrian cities of Idlib and Aleppo.

He said the group used three models of drones, and that the flying range of one of them reached 600 kilometers.

He added that he used to work at the Islamic State’s "aviation central", an elite squad of 12, including himself, which was strictly limited to those members fearing infiltration.

The squad was under the command of an Australian national nicknamed Abu Omar, the fighter, who asked not to be named, told the newspaper. It comprised two experts from Australia, one from the U.K. and the rest from Tunisia and Pakistain.

According to the bad boy, the group was preparing a secret device that would bring down hostile drones through high-voltage radio frequencies, but the British national working on it was killed in the Syrian city of Raqqa, the group’s former capital.

Soros Organisations Seeking to ‘Break Hungary’ Ahead of Sunday Election, Says Government
[BREITBART] With Hungarians set to go to the polls on Sunday, a front man for the Prime Minister has warned organizations sponsored by billionaire financier George Soros
...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true...
are working to blackmail the country into accepting mass migration.
Labelling a leaked European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
paper a "Soros report" designed to force Hungary to bow to EU pressure to accept mass migration and other diktats, Zoltán Kovács said Hungarians would never accept the demands.

Remarking that changes proposed to the Dublin regulations which govern the movement of asylum seekers within the bloc would soon make Hungary taking migrants colonists mandatory, Kovács recalled how, "In recent weeks and days, several statements have been made concerning the systematic attempt to break Hungary that the Soros organizations are trying to achieve using various instruments."

He added: "We arrived at the latest stop in this process on Wednesday, when the European Parliament’s report that is in preparation against Hungary, and which will be presented next week, was leaked."

#5  Looks like the Viktor Orbán government is set to win the election and be validated. They have built a wall in repudiation of immigrantion dictates from the EU globalists in Brussels.

What's to keep Hungary from pulling out of the EU and allying with like-minded countries such as the UK, Poland and any others inclined?

Soros has the backing of bankers and globalists in the EU and the US. Brexit must have stung Soros. Declare Soros an international criminal.

forces have managed to capture the strategic Sabaa Biyar area (near the town of al-Qarayatyn) from the Syrian Army.

After conceding Sabaa Biyar, the Syrian Army has since regrouped and launched a counter-offensive to reclaim the area and drive ISIS forces of Evil all the way back out east towards Deir Ezzor province.

According to al-Masdar News journalist Ibrahim Joudeh, heavy festivities are ongoing between Syrian government forces and ISIS in the Sabaa Biyar area and it is unclear if the former has retaken any lost lost territory yet.

Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces are reportedly supporting the Syrian Army counter-offensive.

forces in southeast Homs, Russian warplanes have entered the fray to assist the former in recovering recently lost ground.

Earlier on it was reported that a deep infiltration operation by ISIS had seen raiding forces of the terrorist group penetrate almost 200 kilometers behind government lines from south of As-Sukhnah to the Sabaa Biyar area (near the Zaza checkpoint).

The Syrian Army has since launched a swift counter-offensive to drive back the Islamic State onslaught around Sabaa Biyar ‐ an operation which Russian airpower is participating in.

For their part, Russian jets are targeting highly-mobile, technical-borne ISIS raiding units lurking around in the Sabaa Biyar area. The Russian Arclight airstrikes come at night ‐ a time when Syrian warplanes are far less effective due to their general lack of night-vision sighting equipment and precision weaponry.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Taki: A Woman’s World
NEW YORK—If Albanian television had shown the program CBS showed last week—with a woman who has sex on camera for a living describing how she had unprotected BingBing with The Donald—I think even Albanians would feel so diminished they’d move to Kosovo. But this is America, and it’s a woman’s, woman’s, woman’s world! Or perhaps a frontal lobe is missing.

The reverential coverage afforded to a porn actress by Anderson—kiss me—Cooper was at its zenith. His smoldering gaze of restraint in not bringing up anal sex was touching, as was his phony squint of chagrin that no protection was used. (Anderson Cooper is good at talking about such matters as protection. He knows all about it.) See what I mean about moving to Kosovo? But this is America, not Albania, the Home of the Depraved.

Newspapers and TV have all become sacred spaces of the sisterhood, no ifs or buts about it, as they used to say in the Bronx. My hero H.L. Mencken said something quite different, but that was some time ago: “Love is the delusion that one woman differs from another.” Mencken also quipped that “When women kiss it always reminds one of prizefighters touching gloves.” Great stuff, isn’t it? But I hate to think what these female versions of Vlad the Impaler who are in the news would do to Mencken if he were around today.

Never mind. The avenging warriors may be weasel-brained and look like four-eyed turds, but they’ve got the major news outlets and all the big-city populations behind them. In an editorial, the Big Bagel Times thundered: “We live at a time when a porn star displays more credibility and class than a president.” Well, that’s because the Bagel Times prefers someone who has sex in front of a camera for money over The Donald, who I admit has never been accused of having class, except he has a bit more than The New York Times. The paper can no longer be taken seriously, its animus against anyone white, heterosexual, and Christian so pronounced, it makes some of us who are still all three of the above feel like Jews in Germany circa 1936.

Again, never mind. Somewhere in the middle of all the shouting, the Weinsteining of all men, natural law is taking a back seat. Natural law can trace its lineage to the Greeks, Plato and Aristotle, and then to Cicero and on down the line to Montesquieu and Burke. Natural law clashed with natural rights during the French Revolution, and I think the two are clashing once again now that the sisterhood has taken over the American media. I hope there will be a reaction to all this, but for the moment it is all one-sided.

Turkey to deport nearly 600 Afghan migrants: Interior ministry
[AlAhram] Ottoman Turkish authorities will deport close to 600 illegal Afghan migrants colonists in eastern The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

back to Kabul this weekend, the interior ministry said on Saturday.

The Afghan migrants colonists had crossed into Turkey through Iran due to "ongoing terrorist activities and economic troubles" in Afghanistan, the ministry said, and security forces had handed the migrants colonists over to provincial immigration authorities.

It said deportation procedures had been completed for 591 migrants colonists in the eastern province of Erzurum and that charter flights to Kabul would be arranged on Saturday and Sunday to send the migrants colonists back.

"Following the completion of deportation procedures for illegal migrants colonists in our other provinces, deportations will speed up and continue in the coming days," the ministry said in a statement.

Rights groups have criticised Turkey for deporting migrants colonists back to conflict-torn countries, including Afghanistan, saying it was putting their lives at risk.

This week the Hurriyet newspaper reported that several thousand Afghan migrants colonists had crossed into Turkey in recent months and had walked for days from the border to reach Erzurum.

Afghanistan has been ravaged by hard boy attacks this year, and the government has made promises to tighten security in the wake of an attack in central Kabul that killed around 100 people in January.

The attacks have undermined support for President Ashraf Ghani

Greek PM Hardens Tone on Soldiers Jailed in Turkey
[AnNahar] Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Saturday demanded the release of two soldiers enjugged

in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, arguing that they should not be "pawns to blackmail."

"Human life and human freedom are not, and should not be, pawns to power games and blackmail," Tsipras said in a statement to Documento newspaper.

Turkey is holding in pre-trial detention two Greek soldiers who crossed the border on March 2, claiming to have lost their way in the fog.

Greece had hoped to secure their release before Sunday's Orthodox Easter celebration.

Ottoman Turkish media have reported that the pair, held in the northern Ottoman Turkish province of Edirne, have been charged with espionage.

But Athens contends that Ottoman Turkish authorities have not given adequate details of the charges and on what evidence they are based.

According to Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency, the soldiers have been charged with "attempted military espionage" as well as entering a forbidden military zone.

The issue has strained an already tense relationship between the two NATO

allies and regional rivals.

Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

and members of his government have escalated attacks on Greece after its failure to extradite eight Ottoman Turkish soldiers that Ankara said were part of an attempted 2016 coup.

The Greek Supreme Court has conclusively blocked the extradition of the eight Ottoman Turkish soldiers, arguing that they would not have a fair trial in their home country amid an ongoing purge of suspected Erdogan opponents.

Additionally, Ankara and Athens are at loggerheads over the exploration of gas reserves in the eastern Mediterranean.

Tsipras earlier this week called on the Ottoman Turkish judiciary to "speed up" its processing of the case.

"In the past, we returned Ottoman Turkish soldiers who crossed a few metres into Greece whilst on patrol. I expect the Ottoman Turkish president to do the same," he said.

members in several operations in Nineveh province, while weapons and explosives were seized in their possession, security sources said on Saturday.

Speaking to BasNews website, Cap. Amir Watheq, from Nineveh police, said, "security troops arrested eight Islamic State members, possessing hand grenades in Makhmur, southeast of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
"Troops cordoned off the area, where the holy warriors were hiding and invaded their houses, then took them to Nineveh Operations Command headquarters for investigations."

All hand grenades, in their possession, were confiscated.

In related news, Col. Khodier Saleh, of the Federal Police, said, "security services arrested an IS cell, composed of 15 members, which was planning to to attack troops deployed in western Mosul."

"The cell members, were possessing weapons. All were arrested inside a tunnel," he added.

Thousands of Islamic State holy warriors as well as Iraqi non-combatants were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016 to fight the bad boy group, which declared a self-styled "caliphate" from Mosul in June 2014.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against security troops. Security reports indicate that the bad boy group still poses threat against stability in the country.

To this end sources are saying that Iraqi forces will also be involved in the offensive, attacking ISIS from Iraq’s western border at the same time and advancing into eastern Syria ‐ these reports, however, remain unconfirmed.

Pregnant woman allegedly shot dead by brother over 'honour' in Khairpur
[DAWN] An eight months pregnant woman who had contracted a marriage of her own will was rubbed out allegedly by her brother over 'honour' in Sindh's Khairpur district on Friday evening, police said.

The victim, a mother of one, had willingly married a man from a caste different than hers in a court of Sukkur in August 2016 without her family’s approval.

Apparently angered by the move, the 25-year-old woman's brother opened fire on her while she was asleep in their family home, located within the limits of Wada Machhoon cop shoppe in Khairpur.

the prime accused on Saturday, and registered a first information report (FIR) under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of Pakistain Penal Code against him, the victim's father and three others on a complaint of SHO Bagh Chand Oad on behalf of the state.

Addressing a presser in Khairpur, the husband of the dear departed woman revealed that the victim was taken away from his house six months ago by her family on the assurance that they would not hurt her and would bring her back after the delivery of their second child.

they killed her after the woman's father during a jirga declared her 'kari', or a woman who has brought dishonour to her family, and asked his son to kill his sister, the husband alleged.

According to the husband, his wife who was eight months pregnant was killed a day before being produced in the Sindh High Court in Sukkur, where he had filed a petition seeking her recovery after finding out about the jirga’s pronouncement against the victim.
