Maya Harris, who is another example of mediocrity: Maya Lakshmi Harris (born January 30, 1967) is an American lawyer, public policy advocate, and writer. Harris was one of three senior policy advisors for Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign's policy agenda and she also served as chair of Kamala Harris's, her older sister, presidential campaign.[1]
Harris was born in Champaign–Urbana, Illinois, and was educated at Bishop O'Dowd High School, the University of California, Berkeley, and Stanford University. She was involved with PolicyLink, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Center for American Progress.

[Jpost] The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted 10 rockets, with 6 falling in open areas The others fell inside Lebanon.
A heavy barrage of close to 20 rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel on Friday, activating the Iron Dome and setting off sirens throughout the area.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks, saying that “at 11.15AM the Islamic Resistance responded to the Israeli aggression by targeting the vicinity of Israeli enemy posts in Shebaa Farms with dozens of rockets fired from woodlands that are far from residential areas.”
The Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted 10 rockets, with 6 falling in open areas near Har Dov on the Lebanese border. The others fell inside Lebanon.
Incoming rocket sirens were activated in northern Israeli communities bordering the Lebanese and Syrian borders including Ein Quiniyye, Neveh Ativ and Snir, near Israel’s northern border with Lebanon and Syria.
There were no injuries or casualties.
The IDF initially responded with artillery fire toward the Mount Dov - Shebaa Farms - area in Lebanon, from where the rocket fire originated.
IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ran Kohav told reporters that Hezbollah deliberately fired to open areas and not towards civilians.
“If Hezbollah wanted to carry out a significant response, they have the ability to do so,” he said.
“We have no interest in escalation but we will continue to work to ensure that the northern border does not become a line of confrontation,” he said. “No side wants war, but on the other hand we will not accept that this continues; that every two to three weeks there is firing towards the north.”
According to Kohav, the Lebanese Armed Forces caught the mobile multi-barreled rocket launcher and the Hezbollah fighters who carried out the attack. Videos released on social media showed at least two Hezbollah operatives being violently forced into a car by Druze villagers in the town of Shwayya after they were stopped.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett convened an emergency gathering of senior officials at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv including Defense Minister Benny Gantz, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi and others to discuss Israel's options.
Gantz also held a situational assessment at the Kirya along with Kohavi, Head of the IDF’s Operations Directorate Maj.-Gen. Oded Basiuk and Head of the IDF’s Intelligence Directorate Maj.-Gen. Tamir Heyman in order to determine the defense establishment’s operations.
It was the sixth such attack in recent months, and the first where Hezbollah said it was behind.
According to a statement released by the group, the barrage was fired in response to the Israel Air Force airstrikes carried out early Thursday morning after Palestinian militants fired three rockets towards the northern city of Kiryat Shemona on Wednesday.
The IDF had initially retaliated Wednesday by firing some 100 artillery shells towards the launch sites and later carried out airstrikes. The strikes targeted the areas from which the rockets were fired as well as other locations where rockets had been fired in the past. The IAF also struck additional infrastructure used for terrorism, a statment released by the military at the time said.
According to Kohav, “Hezbollah has tried to show that it is responding to these attacks” and that the group has “no choice but to respond” to Israeli strikes.
Gantz later spoke to his American counterpart, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and said that while it is still offering humanitarian aid to Lebanon the country is also prepared for any scenario. The call, which was scheduled prior to the rocket attack by Hezbollah on northern Israel earlier today, focused on Iranian aggression in the region including the deadly drone attack on the Mercer Street that left two men dead.
Gantz spoke to Austin about the recent rounds of rocket fire and told him that Israel’s defense establishment “is prepared for any scenario and will continue to operate against Hezbollah or any of its proxies in order to defend Israeli citizens.”
And though Israel is prepared to provide Lebanon with humanitarian aid through the international community or from Israel territory, “due to the volatile situation in Lebanon, Israel is asking the international community and the US, in particular, to demand from the Lebanese government and end to rocket launches at Israel.”
A senior defense official said that the IDF has been carrying out “extensive” strikes in Lebanon against infrastructure used by terror groups by artillery fire and airstrikes, something that “has not been the case for years.”
According to the official, the defense establishment is preparing options for additional responses by “various means, both overt and covert, depending on further developments.”
“The continuation of [Israeli] operations will be in accordance with the operational needs, and when it is convenient for Israel,” he said.
On Friday Instructions were sent to the residents of Kiryat Shmona, stating that shelters that opened on Tuesday following rocket fire from previous days will remain open over the weekend to give residents a sense of security. Mayor Avihay Shtern and the Municipal Chief of Staff Dekel Arieh are in continuous contact with military officials.
Hizbullah, which in recent years has been fighting alongside Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the neighboring country's civil war, named Friday's operation after two of its fighters who were killed by Israeli fire.
Ali Mohsen was killed in July last year in an Israeli airstrike near the Syrian capital Damascus. Mohammed Tahhan was shot dead by Israeli troops along the Lebanon-Israel border in May during a protest in support of Gaza during this year's Israel-Hamas war.
Israel has long considered Hizbullah its most serious and immediate military threat. It estimates the group possesses over 130,000 rockets and missiles capable of striking anywhere in Israel. In recent years, it also has expressed concerns that the group is trying to import or develop an arsenal of precision-guided missiles.
Hizbullah said in a statement Friday that a number of citizens intercepted Hizbullah fighters in Shwaya.
...also spelt Chouya, which is in the Hasbaya region near the Golan Heights. Hasbaya is Druze country, and the seat of the local branch of the Banu Shihab (spelt locally Chehab) since they took the Crusader castle in the 12th century...
at 11:15 a.m. after they had targeted Shebaa Farms with rockets, in a response to Israel’s previous attacks.
A video widely shared on social media showed angry villagers blocking the truck's passage and accusing Hizbullah of endangering civilian lives by launching rockets from close to residential areas.
Hizbullah responded that they had targeted open areas “in order to preserve the security of citizens.”
A patent untruth. Because if they’d only targetted open areas, Iron Dome would not have been triggered to respond to the majority of the rockets. The alternative being that Hezbollah has the aiming skills of a five year old...
The statement stressed that “Hizbullah has been and will remain keen on protecting its people and not to expose them to any harm during its resistance work.”
A force from the Lebanese army and army intelligence agents later arrived in Hasbaya, and confiscated the truck carrying the rocket launcher.
The truck was carrying 32 rockets, 21 of which were fired into the occupied Shebaa Farms and the Golan Heights, media reports said.
Witnesses reported artillery fire by Israeli forces on the Lebanese side of Shebaa Farms and outside the town of Kfar Shouba.
The Sunni Muslim village of Kfar Shouba — which has several alternative spellings — has been a frequent target of Israeli ire since 1972, resulting in 90% of the population having fled Lebanon altogether.

...Somebody at USAF is thinking for a change. The US Air Forces Europe Hogs used to practice this kind of infrequently during the Cold War, more to assure the pilots it was possible than anything else. But now we're faced with the disturbing likelihood that there will be NO functioning airbases within range of an FEBA if we get into it with those nice Communist Chinese. This is good, solid preparation that should remind the PRC that we can still out-imagination them.

Dirty Harry of the Skies?
This and the AC-130 Spectre can give someone a very bad day.
Those of us from 60's and 70's still remember when the Cold War was in full swing and the US Interstate systems was being built.
One of the QT selling points long straight runs several mile long of Strong re-enforced concrete foundation.
While many "media sources" call it an urban myth and true a vast majority of the US Interstate WILL NOT support BUF's, B#'s, C-5's, C-17's and AC/C-130s or C141's due to their wingspans and often roadside trees. Interstate roadways will easily support fighter jets. But still LAPES deliveries of supplies, weapons a troops for delivered vehicles are a viable scenario.
ALSO SEE: Youtube "C17 Lands at small commuter airport by accident" for example.
BTW: "some" remote Interstate systems (Southwestern and Mid-Northwest) might be viable having 200++ ft clearing either side of the hwy.

Had to be removed with a crane.

[FoxNews] Rhode Island mother of two Nicole Solas on possibly facing a lawsuit for seeking records on critical race theory.
The Rhode Island branch of a major teachers union is suing to block a school district from fulfilling a mother's public records requests, citing the sheer volume of requests and concerns about teacher privacy.
The case revolves around a mom, Nicole Solas, who caught national attention for her quest to address critical race theory (CRT) in her child's district. School board members previously considered suing Solas over her copious records requests – at least 200 – but declined prior to the recent lawsuit.
"We are asking the Court to conduct a balancing test to determine whether our members’ privacy rights outweigh the public interest," said Jennifer Azevedo, who serves as deputy director of the National Education Association Rhode Island (NEARI). "We believe they do, and those records should either not be disclosed or should be redacted accordingly."
In a filing dated Thursday, NEARI requested a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction from the state's superior court. Both Solas and employees of the school district are named as defendants.
Solas fired back, telling Fox News, "You cannot be employed by the state and also demand immunity from public scrutiny. That's not how open government works in America. Academic transparency is not a collective bargaining negotiation. It's a parental right."
NEARI's verified complaint, which was filed Monday, states: "Given the circumstances of the requests, it is likely that any teachers who are identifiable and have engaged in discussions about things like critical race theory will then be the subject of teacher harassment by national conservative groups opposed to critical race theory."
Cornell law professor William Jacobson also argued that "[t]his lawsuit makes little sense on its face. The unions purport to be protecting their members non-public documents and information, but the public records law only applies to "public records" as defined under the statute."
The filing from Monday, however, seeks for the court to examine certain categories of documents which are "potentially public records" under the Access to Public Records Act.
It adds that if records aren't determined to constitute a "clearly unwarranted invasion of privacy," they should be disclosed with redactions of personally identifiable information or "information which may lead to the identity of such teachers."
The lawsuit reflected an ongoing battle playing out across the country where frustrated parents are demanding answers from education officials.
Both the NEA and American Federation of Teachers (AFT) have opposed efforts to limit CRT and its related ideas in school. NEA previously approved a resolution conveying its desire to fight "anti-CRT rhetoric."
Another prompted Senate Republicans' scrutiny by declaring that the NEA would "research the organizations attacking educators doing anti-racist work and/or use the research already done and put together a list of resources and recommendations for state affiliates, locals, and individual educators to utilize when they are attacked."

[ToloNews] At least seven attacks by Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... on the city of Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... were pushed back by the security forces on Wednesday night, the provincial governor Abdul Saboor Qani said.
Taliban launched attacks on districts 2, 3, 10 and 11 of Herat city on Wednesday night, Qani said, adding that "Wahid Ahmad Kohistan ...a backwoods district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa distinguished by being even more rustic than is the norm among the local Pashtuns.... i, police chief for Herat's District 10 and two security force members were killed in last night's festivities."
There are no reports on civilians’ casualties so far.
Qani said that the Air Force also conducted Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s in the city on in which "more than 100 Taliban were killed and dozens of others were maimed."
"These Taliban members were killed when they wanted to enter the city," he said.
Taliban has not commented on their casualties.
On Thursday, Herat festivities entered 9th day.
Mohammad Ismail Khan, former mujahedeen leader who is now leading the fight against the Taliban in Herat along with scores of public resistance forces, said on Wednesday that "the war in Herat city is being led by Pakistain."
He urged the residents of Herat city to rise up against the "clear aggression" of Pakistain, saying: "I want to make it clear that the war in Herat is a war between Pakistain and Afghanistan."
"This is not the Taliban’s war and the Taliban is a tool. Just as the Afghan people did not accept the dominance of the United States, Russia and other superpowers, they should not accept Pak dominance either."
A number of security force members who are battling the Taliban on the frontlines pledged to not allow the Taliban to enter the city.
[OneIndia] The decline of the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... in Syria and Iraq led to some operatives looking for a happy hunting ground in Jammu and Kashmir ...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there.... This was revealed during the raids conducted by the NIA at five locations in Jammu and Kashmir and Karnataka. The NIA also arrested four operatives of the ISIS Kerala module.
The raids were conducted 3 locations in Kashmir and 1 each in Bengaluru and Mangalore.
NIA had registered a suo-moto case against 07 known and other unknown accused persons pertaining to terrorist activities of one Mohammed Ameen from Kerala and his associates, who have been running various ISIS propaganda channels on different social media platforms such as Telegram, Hoop and Instagram for propagating the violent mostly peaceful Jihadi ideology of ISIS and radicalising and recruiting new members for the ISIS module.
During investigation, it has been revealed that after the decline of ISIS Caliphate in Syria/Iraq, Mohd. Ameen had visited Kashmir in March, 2020 for Hijrah (Religious migration) and for engaging in terrorist acts and had also raised funds in association with Kashmir based accused Mohammad Waqar Lone.
As part of conspiracy, funds were also transferred to Lone by accused in the case through banking channels and digital payment methods on the directions of Mohd. Ameen. Mohd. Ameen and his associates were also radicalising gullible Moslem youths for joining Jihad and unlawful activities in India and had been successful in expanding the network in Kashmir and part of Kerala and Karnataka.
The searches were conducted at the premises of accused/suspects who were continuously in touch with Mohammed Ameen and his associates through various groups/channels on encrypted chat platforms and had raised funds for furtherance of activities of ISIS. During searches, several digital devices including Laptops, Mobile phones, Hard Disk Drives, Pen Drives, multiple SIM cards of different service providers and incriminating documents were seized.
The NIA took into custody Obaid Hamid, Muzammil Hassan Bhat, Ammar Abdul Rahman, Shankar and Venkatesh Perumal. They were involved in raising funds and radicalising and motivating more people to join ISIS.

[Jpost] Payment of Hamas salaries has delayed the resumption of Qatari funding for Gaza, a senior diplomatic source told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.
Israel already has an approved list of recipients and has checked that none of the names on it are terrorists but are teachers or engineers, for example, the source said.
The channel for paying them, however, is through the Palestinian Authority, which does not want to pay salaries to anyone affiliated with Hamas.
Prior to the 11-day Gaza war in May, known as Operation Guardian of the Walls, Israel allowed Qatar to make regular $30 million cash payments to Gaza, which had gone to needy families and salaries of Hamas officials. Qatar also paid for fuel for the power plant.
Former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was often accused of buying calm along the Gaza border by allowing Qatar to transfer cash to Gaza. In the aftermath of the war, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has insisted that "suitcases of cash" can no longer enter Gaza.
He has agreed in principle that Qatar can resume its payments once an appropriate mechanism is worked out.
The funds will partly be distributed to poor families through postal banks, a senior diplomatic source confirmed.
Payments for fuel for the Gaza power plant have also resumed. In addition, Qatar has pledged to help fund the reconstitution of Gaza.
The mechanism for Qatari funding is an important part of the restoration of calm along the Gaza border. It is also an element of the Egyptian efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that would prevent another round of violence.
Hamas has insisted that salaries must be part of this deal and at times has even threatened to resume violence against Israel if the funding is not resumed.
The situation along the Gaza border remains tense. The commercial crossing at Kerem Shalom and the pedestrian one at Erez have yet to operate at prewar levels. The Gaza fishing zone has not been fully restored to the 15 nautical miles set prior to the May war.
Israel has set the limit at 12 nautical miles, then reduced it to six, and at the start of this week restored it to 12.
At the start of the week, the Foreign Ministry announced a series of Gaza gestures. As of Sunday, Israel allowed the entry to Gaza of "equipment and goods to assist projects by the international community in Gaza in the fields of food, water, medicine and fisheries have been approved for importation," the Foreign Ministry stated.
"This in addition to the approval of the importation of electrical and agricultural products from Israel to the Gaza Strip, as well as the export of metal waste from the Gaza Strip to Israel," it explained.
In addition, Israel has agreed that "Palestinians residing in Gaza would be allowed to travel abroad via the Allenby crossing" as long as they meet the required criteria, the Foreign Ministry said.
The tentative agreement revealed by PA minister Ahmad Majdalani has prompted concern among Paleostinian banks, which are said to be worried about being slapped with sanctions should their money go to Hamas. The international community largely boycotts the terror group and cracks down on financial institutions that deal with it.
According to the Kan public broadcaster, Qatar preferred to transfer the funds to the Paleostinian Authority — rather than the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... — because the PA was prepared to charge less overhead. Ramallah’s banks were prepared to skim just 1.5 percent interest, while the UN demanded as much as 8%, Kan said, citing Paleostinian sources.
Since the escalation, Israeli politicians have vowed that there will be no return to the status quo ante.

It's a totally genius plan! I only have one question:
a) Where are you going to charge the electric vehicles?
b) What are you going to charge them with?
Yeah, I know that is two questions, but arithmetic is not a strong point with this crowd. As you can see by the fact that no one is talking about these questions.

In 1807, the U.S. Congress passed a statute prohibiting the importation of slaves as of the first constitutionally-allowable moment of January 1, 1808. This act was signed by President Jefferson and entered into force in 1808, rendering this part of the Constitution irrelevant except as a historical curiosity. [19fortyfive] The Delta variant is spreading across the country fast, and Beijing has no answer to the new strain other than draconian, totalitarian brute-force measures and blaming foreigners.
Millions of Chinese residents are now in various forms of lockdown. The recent infections constitute the most widespread coronavirus outbreak since the disease first hit China, sometime in late 2019.
The new flare-up, which quickly slipped beyond the control of the authorities, is undermining core Communist Party propaganda narratives....China's rulers have run out of options when it comes to the uncontrolled and perhaps uncontrollable spread of the newest variant of COVID-19.
Is their fate now in the hands of a virus named "Delta"? Chang, who works for a Wall Street Legal outfit, authored a book about the coming collapse of China in 2001 during the Dot Com bust. He also predicted the collapse of China several other times between then and now.

[ToloNews] Around 300 migrants colonists, mostly Afghans who were trying to cross into The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... from the Iranian border, were arrested by Ottoman Turkish security forces, authorities said on Wednesday as quoted by Rooters.
The group were found inside a large truck, including women and young children, Rooters reported.
Concerns over a potential new influx of migrants colonists into Turkey from Afghanistan, via Iran, have grown in recent weeks amid an unprecedented surge in violence.
The UN refugee agency estimates 270,000 Afghans have been displaced inside the country since January, bringing the number of people forced from their homes to more than 3.5 million.

[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency has arrested a key conspirator in connection with the Ramalingam murder case that was reported at Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rahman Sadiq, a resident of Thanjavur. The case relates to the killing of Ramalingam on February 5 2019 who had opposed the Dawah work being undertaken by the leaders of the Popular Front of India. Ramalingam was killed as he took objection to Hindus being forcibly converted to Islam.
The killing was aimed to create terror in the minds of a particular section of people, to create enmity between different religious communities and to avenge and teach a lesson to Ramalingam, who had removed the "taqiyah"( skull cap) worn by one of the accused persons, and applied "thiruneer (sacred ash)" on the forehead of accused Mohammed Farooq inorder to portray that all religions are same, the NIA said.
Investigation revealed that Rahman Sadiq was the Administrator of Dawah work of PFI, Thanjavur District. He along with other accused persons had conspired in Thirubhuvanam against Ramalingam by chopping his hands. He and the other co-conspirators had arranged weapons, vehicles and hideouts for executing the plan. Rahman Sadiq was also instrumental in recruiting members for committing this terrorist act. [AlAhram] The Afghan air force carried out more Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s against Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... positions in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, as the holy warrior force made additional gains in the country's north.
A defense ministry statement said air strikes were carried out across the country, including in the southern Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... province, where the historic provincial capital of Lashkar Gah is being fiercely contested. I stand corrected. I understand that Westerners hate China because it dares to dismantle the status quo, but its because other nations cannot grow a spine against the forces breaking them.
Mr. Wife’s three favourite countries to work in were — in chronological order — Egypt, Greece, and India. The two he loathed were Saudi Arabia and Belgium. He turned down an offered assignment in China — not only was it much too soon after our last move, but the place was much too unhealthy for a man with asthmatic tendencies.
The ill-effects of our corrupt checks and balances, our European pattern constitutionalism and our faggots in chief, can all be reversed like this [snaps fingers]. With the right motivation. China knows this, and will not give us firm reason to shirk civil control.
There was an article here the other day about populations realizing new systems are needed and the old are irrelevant and tyrannical. That much is true. For different people different solutions geared to their peculiar society and civilization shall work. But these marble edifice fuckups the world over will be replaced one way or another. Most certainly in your lifetime.
The Indian sense of nationalism is stronger than even the Russians or Chinese, and the inherent proclivity to obedience to State is always there. All we need is leaders like they have in Israel, who understand the priorities. And those will not be found among octogenarian slackers in pajamas.
Oh, don't worry, they're doing that to themselves anyway.
As for China, they're cycling through another empire period. The inability of the regime to crush corruption will lead to its downfall as it did to the previous dynasties.
For centuries China was a the major power in the world, but its close mind and insular nature didn't suit it well when the West gained ascendancy after the 1700s. It was interesting in the 19th Century when confronted by the West the Chinese retreated in to addressing the situation by 'purifying' their existing institutions, the Japanese however saw it as adopting Western institutions and practices. The Japanese gave the West a near run thing in the early 40s. The Chinese are seeking to reestablish themselves as the dominate power. Usually this does not end well for all. See - Third Reich

The Indian sense of nationalism is stronger than even the Russians or Chinese, and the inherent proclivity to obedience to State is always there. There's no obedience to State or nationalism within Indians. They immigrate (or flee away) in hordes to better shores. The average Indian rote learns through life, mugging for major examinations(10th & 12th grade) and like an obedient ant starts preparing for the entry to stable occupations like Engineering. The average Indian is extremely patriotic, for them India is a gift to the mankind and actually believes whatever media feeds them including pseudo-science bs. They are ever more ready to get offended if someone points that India is dirty, polluted and rape-infested hellhole. Indians are sheeps; they will mimic whatever their neighbours and relatives do. For us, nationalism and obedience to the country means bashing our poor dumb neighbours or bashing anyone who dares to ill-speak of them. They'll even resort to violence who doesn't agree with them, like when Maria Sharapova was asked about Tendulkar during an interview and she replied, "I've never heard of this guy" these butthurt dumbfucks took to the streets. Back in 2004 they somehow picked up on President Bush's cat named India and the media went into a frenzy. Morons took to the street tying a poor donkey up and splashing paint across its body with the word U.S.A. they burnt even the poor animal later. This is the mentality that these billion dimwits inhabit. Also Indian men hate Indian women. They hate us so much to the point where they'll boil female infants in hot boiling milk, feed us to the dogs or simply perform an abortion. They stalk us, harrass and catcall us while going to school and offices; in worst of the cases they'll brutally rape us. And Indian women are no less, they too are ready to shame their gender. Indians have an inferiority complex like no other-they want to be treated different and acknowledged all the time. I do not see such craziness in Chinese.

[IsraelTimes] Five or six button men seeking to divert Panama-flagged asphalt tanker to Islamic Theocratic Republic managed to flee after US and Omani warships arrived at scene; none of crew on board injured.
The crew of a Panama-flagged asphalt tanker off the coast of Oman reportedly managed to thwart an attempt by Iranian button men to take control of their ship and divert it to the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

Five or six Iranian operatives stormed the Asphalt Princess on Tuesday, but the crew onboard quickly sprung to action and sabotaged the ship’s engines so that it could not move any further, UK officials told British daily The Times on Wednesday.
[Rudaw] Attacks on power lines damaged 13 electricity towers in three provinces in the past 48 hours, Iraq’s electricity ministry said on Thursday. "Mo didn't have DC or AC!"
"Terrorist acts targeting power transmission lines in Salahaddin, Kirkuk and Nineveh governorates caused damage to 13 towers within 48 hours," the ministry stated.
A Kirkuk power line was targeted with bombs on Wednesday evening, damaging five towers and cutting off electricity transmission between Kirkuk and Nineveh provinces. The ministry also reported attacks in Samarra and Tikrit ...birthplace of Saddam Hussein... "It seems that the subversive terrorist elements have gone too far by targeting power transmission lines, aimed at stopping the projects of the Ministry of Electricity and shutting down the national system and separating the provinces from each other, which is an obvious plot and will be resolutely addressed as subversives are not tolerated," the ministry said.
Iraq suffers from chronic electricity shortages, especially felt when summer temperatures reach over 50 degrees Celsius. This is caused by multiple factors, including poor government delivery of services, rampant corruption, terror attacks on the power grid, and Iran’s recent cuts of electricity and gas exports because of unpaid bills.
Attacks earlier this summer on electricity pylons contributed to a blackout that left millions in central and southern Iraq without power during a heat wave.
The Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group (ISIS) has claimed dozens of attacks on Iraq’s electricity grid and threatened other vital infrastructure and Iraqi security forces said they thwarted several other attempts.
"ISIS terrorist organization seeks to create panic through targeting these power lines," spokesperson for the Joint Operations Command, Major-General Tahsin al-Khafaji, said on July 4.
Khafaji added that a joint operations cell between security forces and the electricity ministry had been formed to strategize how to protect the power lines. A force drawing from the army, police, and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF or Hashd al-Shaabi) has also been formed to protect the grid.
"ISIS probably views infrastructure as a soft target; the attacks require minimal resources and personnel, but the resulting electricity disruptions garner attention and undermine the Iraqi government," the United States Pentagon said in its latest report on operations against ISIS, released this week.
During a visit to the electricity ministry in July, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said there is no quick solution to electricity shortages.

Meet the new boss, same as the old camel jockey boss...
[Zero Hedge] - Hardline cleric and former head of the judiciary Ebrahim Raisi was officially sworn in as the new President of Iran in the country’s parliament in Tehran on Thursday. The heads of all major branches of government were in attendance, as well as top military officials during the televised ceremony, including representatives from over 80 countries, according to regional media. Hezbollah and Hamas representatives were also seen in attendance, ironically sitting just in front of a top EU official.
Raisi won over 60% of the votes in the July national election, and is seen as a close ally of the Ayatollah. He said in his inaugural speech and transfer of power from the more 'moderate' Hassan Rouhani, who stepped down due to term limits, that "The policy of pressure and sanctions will not cause the nation of Iran to back down from following up on its legal rights." A few years ago I was lectured by some POS broad tenant who asserted 'I know my rights', then fucked me outta 20K in rent, legal fees, constable fees and damage to the property. People who assert 'rights' without any regard for civilized behaviour or commensurate responsibility need to be dealt with... harshly, as will this former tenant.
Lord Garth submitted an article that covered the same ground, describing Ebrahim Raisi as [mass executioner of dissidents in the 1980s]

An international conference on Leb ...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady human sacrifice days of Baal Moloch. In 2020 Hezbollahblew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate faci8lity exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that... on Wednesday raised some $370 million in aid to meet the country's humanitarian needs, one year after the massive explosion at Beirut’s port, the French presidency said.

Nahid Taghavi, 66, was given "10 years for membership in an illegal group" and "eight months for propaganda against the regime," said her daughter, Mariam Claren.
Taghavi was arrested at her Tehran apartment on October 16 after years of fighting for human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... in Iran, in particular for women’s rights and freedom of expression, according to the rights group IGFM.
According to Claren, Taghavi has been held in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison, where she contracted Covid-19 last month.
Claren has repeatedly flagged up warnings about her mother’s health, saying that she suffers from pre-existing conditions including high blood pressure and diabetes.

The NYT paid 1.1 billion for the Boston Globe back in 1993, then disposed of that investment for about the value of the land at 135 Morrisey Boulevard just a few short years ago, and that land went for $70 million when John Henry (owner of the Red Sox & Liverpool FC) bought the Globe some years earlier. I fail to see anything of worth / value in modern newspapers, regardless of how they package it.

Have the "Big 3" cable networks equaled this "tremendous feat" ?
[JPost] One man, one vote, one time. See: Lebanon
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is set to become a fully constitutional democracy where the parliamentary parties choose the government within the next 10 years.
A 92-person royal commission charged to reform Jordan’s election and party laws has been preparing a decade-long road map for democratization.
Under the current system, the monarch appoints and can dismiss the government, the lower chamber of the legislature is limited to approving, rejecting or amending legislation, with little power to initiate laws, and the king appoints the members of the upper house.
The plans being discussed behind closed doors call for three phases to reach the kind of constitutional monarchy that the United Kingdom or Sweden enjoy, a senior member of the commission told The Media Line.
"The idea is that in the first phase, 30% of the parliamentary seats will be dedicated to fully-fledged, nationwide political parties. Party representatives will go up to 60% in the next round of parliamentary elections and by the third round, all 100% of the country’s parliamentary seats will come from political parties," the commission member said.
"There is no talk at present about the Senate or king’s chamber, which is supposed to have half as many seats [as the lower house]. At present Jordan’s lower house has 130 seats and it is expected that the number will rise to 150 if the recommendation of the royal commission is accepted by King Abdullah," the commissioner continued.
The gradual change is vintage Abdullah II. Back in 2011, when the Arab world including Jordan was experiencing a wave of reform, the king himself argued that any political change "should be done gradually, and in accordance with the interests and security of the nation. It is this latter part that is crucial."
In his June 12, 2011 speech, Abdullah emphasized the "difference between the required democratic transformations and achievable ones on the one hand, and the risks of chaos and fitnah [sedition] on the other."
Ironically the current commission was established in part as a result of the allegations of sedition against high-ranking figures who included the king’s half-brother the former Crown Prince Hamzeh along with a former confidant of the king, Bassem Awadallah, now an adviser to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The members of the royal commission appear to have adopted the gradual approach.
Ahmad Shunnaq, the secretary-general of the National Constitutional Party, told The Media Line that according to the king’s directive, the political process that would lead to a parliamentary democracy needs to be carried out in phases.
"Maybe we need one or two rounds of elections in which there are 40 party-based seats in order for the public in Jordan to be able to swallow this change. Later we can move to a parliament that can establish a government and oversee its work," he said.
Adnan Sawaeer, the head of the subcommittee charged with changing the party law, told The Media Line that balance must be found between those who want more party members in parliament and those who would prefer local parliamentarians controlling the lower house.
"We are working hard on creating a parliament that is friendly to women, parties and youth. It will be a totally new law that will allow university students to participate in the political arena and in party politics," Sawaeer said.

[FOXNEWS] Somali-Dutch scholar and activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali did not mince words regarding her feelings about Critical Race Theory
...teaches that skin color is the most important characteristic of any person, which translates to separate but equal with a different bunch in charge. All whites and Asians are born racist and racism permeates every aspect of society, which should be dismantled and the remains turned over to the kind of dipshit who pushes this nonsense... in an interview with Fox News, calling it a "nihilistic" practice that will teach children to "hate" one another.
Ali is concerned about America's trend toward "wokeness," which she said is all about stoking division.
"It divides us into people of different races and it says that these racial differences are irreconcilable and then divisions along gender, along transgender, along immigrants colonists ... It sees no reconciliation, no coming together unless the people that they describe as eternal victims, black people, people of color, women, transgender people, unless they unite to destroy and dismantle our existing institutions. It's a very nihilistic, zero-sum game. It's the worst philosophy I've ever come across," Ali said.

[Breitbart] On Tuesday, ICE Agents were denied authorization by the ICE Command Center in Washington, D.C. to arrest a felon released from a Texas prison after he completed a 30-month sentence for stealing more than 60 laptop computers. The denial effectively allowed the person to avoid deportation.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, an ICE agent informed Breitbart Texas about the denial to arrest and process the foreign national for removal. The source adds that most of such calls to Washington end with negative responses.
The migrant was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) after a joint operation. The suspect was found to be a visa overstay and had no right to remain in the United States, according to the source.
The source relayed Washington’s justification, noting that he did not pose a danger to the general public.
The source says many within ICE are frustrated that permanent guidance on arrest priorities from DHS Secretary Mayorkas have not been finalized. The agency is still relying on an enforcement priorities memorandum issued by Acting ICE Director Tae Johnson.
The policy, instituted in February, requires limits on immigration enforcement actions at the field level to “at entry” migrants and those migrants suspected of involvement in terrorist activity or previously convicted of an aggravated felony. In most other cases, approval from ICE headquarters must be sought before any enforcement actions can take place.
As reported previously by Breitbart Texas, migrants convicted of criminal offenses are routinely released in lieu of removal due to the restrictive nature of the policy.

[ColonelCassad] This is Ryan Sawyer Mays. He posted this photo with the caption "I like the smell of napalm in the morning" on June 14, 2020.
But, of course, he became famous not for this photograph, but for the fact that, according to the investigation, it was he who organized the arson on the "Bonhomme Richard" helicopter carrier, which is now being sawed for metal in Texas. This photo was taken a month before the fire on July 13.
The case file contains testimony from colleagues that Mace expressed disdain for the authorities and the US military. Allegedly, Mace was dissatisfied with the fact that he wanted to become a "SEAL" and participate in underwater operations, but turned out to be an ordinary sailor on a helicopter carrier. he failed out of BUD/S, with an "injury"
One of the witnesses saw Mace going down to the deck, where the fire broke out 5 minutes before it started. "But I did not see it in person, but identified it by its height and complexion."
It is also reported that the arson was organized on one of the lower decks - a container with petroleum distillate and various rags were used to organize the fire, while the fire-fighting equipment on the deck was disabled in advance.
An important detail, 2 days before the fire, an inspection of the fire-fighting equipment was carried out on the ship, but the senior officers were sure that it was almost unbelievable that the extinguishing equipment had not been tested on the desired deck.
However, on the day of the fire, they did not work. There was either profanity during the check, or they were put out of action in the period after the check and before the fire.
As a result, the ship was decommissioned, and the total damage caused to the US Navy was more than $ 1 billion. Mace is charged with aggravated arson. Mace himself denies any involvement in the arson. So for now, let's wait to declare Mace a prisoner of conscience.
In any case, whoever started the fire dealt a serious blow to the American military. This is apparently the most catastrophic case of deliberate arson of a large warship, which led to its destruction.
"I love the smell of burning aviation fuel spilling over the deck of the Bonom Richard helicopter carrier. It's the smell of victory."
I wonder how soon idiots will appear who will declare the negative impact of "Apocalypse Now" and demand to ban it for "

During the 1800s and early 1900s, western museums collected clay tablets like mad -- because the countries of origin didn't give a rat's ass. The result was HUGE collections of untranslated tablets that scholars are just now working through.
Over on YouTube there are great videos featuring Irving Finkel, who's working through the British Museum's collection.

Folks were building some pretty amazing (for the time, anyway) buildings and monuments 4,000+ years ago (we won't discuss any Creationists' beliefs) and somewhere along the line their builders must have figured out the various concepts of Geometry to do so.
Pythagoras might have only been codifying what was already known.

All of this cries out for a multi-year Gov't funded, multi-million dollar Paythagoras research grant.
[FoxNews] The report found no evidence FBI personnel leaked information to Rudy Giuliani.
A yearslong investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) inspector general revealed that numerous FBI employees had "substantial" media contacts prior to the 2016 presidential election, but it could not determine who leaked sensitive information to reporters.
The 10-page report issued Thursday by Inspector General Michael Horowitz said that while FBI policies strictly limit the employees who are authorized to speak to the media, those rules "appeared to be widely ignored" in 2016.
The new findings expand upon the investigative work included in a June 2018 report entitled the "Review of Allegations Regarding Various Actions by the Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Advance of the 2016 Election (2016 pre-election report)."
The IG report reads in part: "Among the issues we reviewed in that report were allegations that FBI employees improperly disclosed non-public information regarding the FBI’s investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. The FBI has a strict policy that limits the number of employees who are authorized to speak with the media, and requires approval for any others.
"We identified numerous FBI employees, at all levels of the organization and with no official reason to be in contact with the media, who were nevertheless in frequent contact with reporters," it continues.
The IG stated that it "determined this information from reviewing FBI records and through forensic examination of FBI electronic devices," including text message communications and phone records that did not reflect the "substance" of communication. However, the IG did not seek a court order to compel service providers to produce personal email communications
"The large number of FBI employees who were in contact with journalists during this time period impacted our ability to identify the sources of leaks. For example, during the periods we reviewed, we identified dozens of FBI employees that had contact with members of the media."
The report said its ability to identify the leakers was also hampered by that the fact that in some instances, more than 100 employees had access to the sensitive information that was leaked.
The report detailed three senior officials who had numerous unauthorized contact with media between January and November 2916, including unauthorized social engagements, such as drinks and dinners, which violated FBI policy. In addition, the IG referred six employees at FBI headquarters to the FBI for it to determine whether their media contacts warrant disciplinary or other corrective action.
The IG report also found no evidence FBI personnel leaked any sensitive information to Rudy Giuliani about the Hillary Clinton email server investigation.
Giuliani claimed days before the 2016 election that Trump had some "pretty big surprises" he was prepared to reveal. Two days after that statement then-FBI Director James Comey announced the bureau was reopening its Clinton email probe.
The IG's office confirmed they spoke directly with Giuliani, saying in the report: "As a result of the content and timing of these public statements by Giuliani suggesting that current or former FBI personnel may have provided non-public investigative information to him, the OIG contacted Giuliani, who agreed to appear for a voluntary interview."
Giuliani told the IG: "[Director] Comey’s statements were a shock to me. I had no foreknowledge of any of them."
The report continues, "He also said he had not been in contact with any active FBI agents in October 2016, and stated that he had only spoken with former agents who did not have any direct or indirect knowledge of FBI investigations in October 2016, and that the extent of his conversations with former agents was "gossip" about Comey’s decision-making in 2016."
Since the 2016 pre-election report, the IG states that the FBI has taken steps to improve the FBI’s procedures and "cultural attitude" and "disciplinary penalties" regarding unauthorized contacts with the media.

Agree with RAJ and
Also ask if the IG found FBI policies strictly limiting employees who are authorized to speak to the media were widely ignored" in 2016.
Then why haven't we also read of FBI resignations and terminations for doing so?

Well you know here at the Bureau (the most professional law enforcement establishment in the world), we have bad leaks and then we have those good not so bad leaks.
We really can't be expected to rack & stack them and make our methods them public knowledge now can we ?

Every single agent should be required by name to explain the contacts, and the reporters should be cited as possible FBI sources. How long would such a disclosure take to end the practice?
[IsraelTimes] US President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier... on Wednesday promised $100 million in additional aid for Leb ...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Trust them on that... as he pressed the crisis-wracked nation to undergo reforms.
"Today I’m announcing nearly $100 million in new humanitarian assistance," Biden told a UN-backed donor conference for Lebanon led by La Belle France.
"But no amount of outside assistance will ever be enough if Lebanon’s leaders do not commit to do the hard but necessary work of reforming the economy and combating corruption," he said.
"It’s essential. It has to start now," Biden said. "There’s no time to waste. You know it. We are there to help if you do it."
The Biden administration, the same old faces in slightly different places, the same old ideas, the same old graft ...knaves, footpads, and adjusters employed by the Biden Crime Family. They leave a trail of havoc everywhere they turn their attention, be it the nation's borders, the Keystone XL Pipeline, or epidemics, sometimes on purpose, most times through sheer arrogant ineptitude. They learnt this stuff in college, you know... did not immediately specify where the new funding would go but Biden said it was in addition to $560 million in humanitarian assistance devoted to Lebanon over the past two years.
The Lebanon conference comes one year after a kaboom at the Beirut port killed at least 214 people, the latest trauma for a nation with an economy in free-fall and without a stable government.

Why is DC always funneling $$$$ to other countries?
Is it because part of it finds its way back to DC family members? (eg. ukraine-russia-china/biden/yoMama/clintons)
Its not because the USA has $$$ to waste? (eg. $28.6T US National Debt)
Imagine what the 2020 foreign aid of $161.2 billion could do, if used correctly in the USA w/o Political pockets involved.
How about a US Constitutional amendment baring $$$ to other countries, unless the US budget is balanced?
After all, those of us here at US ground zero (working/retired stiffs paying taxes) don't have the option of giving out $$$$ we don't have to family and friends w/o going to jail.
[IsraelTimes] Iran’s foreign ministry warns Israel not to take military action against the Islamic Theocratic Republic after the Jewish state threatened Tehran over a deadly tanker attack.
"In another brazen violation of Int’l law, Israeli regime now blatantly threatens Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... with military action," ministry front man Saeed Khatibzadeh says on Twitter.
The MT Mercer Street, managed by prominent Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer, was attacked off Oman last week. A British security guard and a Romanian crew member were killed in what the United States, Britannia and the vessel’s operator Zodiac Maritime said appeared to be a dronezap.
On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that his government was "working on enlisting the world" in response to the attack but warned "we also know how to act alone."
"The Iranians need to understand that it is impossible to sit peacefully in Tehran and, from there, ignite the entire Middle East. That is over," he said.
Both the US and Israel have said their intelligence assessments of the July 29 incident concluded that an Iranian drone attacked the ship, charges that Iran denies.
"We state this clearly: ANY foolish act against Iran will be met with a DECISIVE response," Khatizbadeh says.
"Don’t test us," he warns.
To quote a famous American president, “Don’t call their bluff.”
[Garowe] A few months ago, the federal government of Somalia raised serious concerns about the presence of the Kenya Defense Forces [KDF] in Somalia, despite the fact that the force was incorporated in AMISOM, which is an African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... force promoting peace in Somalia.
For months, Somalia claimed issues of KDF waging Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s in Gedo which allegedly claimed the lives of civilians. In a statement, FGS openly said: "For Kenya Defense Forces to carry any airstrike, they must first consult us. That is the bare minimum."
Also, FGS had issues with KDF's alleged association with Jubaland Security Forces [JSF] which have been at loggerheads with the Somali National Army [SNA] for a couple of years. KDF has often denied the claims.
But it after all seems Somalia will have to tolerate KDF for a little longer following the recent changes in Kenyan forces which were engineered by President Uhuru Kenyatta. In a previous interview in Gay Paree, Uhuru was quoted saying "we shall not leave until Somalia is stable".
In the Kenya Army promotions done by Uhury, Major-General Albert Kendagor was promoted to lieutenant-general and appointed Force Commander designate of the African Union Mission to Somalia [Amisom]. He was serving as Kenya Army Deputy Commander.
This means Lt. General Albert Kendagor will be the incoming AMISOM Force Commander upon the exit of Lt. General Diomede Ndegeya, who took over the role in January 2021. The Burundian is expected to leave Somalia in January 2022.
The defense chief said unlike between 2011 and 2012 when dozens of grenades and other weapons were being smuggled from Somalia, the trend had significantly dropped.
After assuming the responsibilities, Kendagor will serve a period of one year which will expire on January 2023. Initially, AMISOM had projected the exit of forces from Somalia by the end of 2021 upon full implementation of the Somali Transition Plan [STP].
In fact, a recent report from an independent team picked by AMISOM gave a raft of recommendations, and certainly, there was no indication of exit. The team wants the force to be reorganized and stay a little longer until Somalia is stable.
KDF has close to 3,500 soldiers in Somalia, mainly serving in Sectors II and VI of AMISOM jurisdiction. Recently, KDF Chief General Robert Kibochi also gave an indication that the force will stay in Somalia a little longer in an interview with state media.
"We cannot be in Somalia forever. Just like the USA which has left Afghanistan after a long war with bad boys, we will also leave when our objective is achieved," he said.
But even with an anticipated longer stay in Somalia, Gen. Kibochi said Kenyan troops have already had a huge impact in Somalia by opening up 14 major areas initially under al-Shabaab ...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord... control.
"We have opened up roads, hospitals, and made towns bustling. Kismayu, Dobley, and other towns are now bustling. We have degraded al-Shabaab in a major way," he said.
The defense chief said unlike between 2011 and 2012 when dozens of grenades and other weapons were being smuggled from Somalia, the trend had significantly dropped.
He said Kenya and other countries are pushing to have Amisom funded by the UN. This is because one of the main donors, the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... , has stopped supporting the mission.
Covid is only one of the reasons money is tight everywhere.
This has necessitated a reconfiguration of the operations of the mission which is likely to be done during the coming UN Security Council meeting in October 2021.
"Assessment is being done on what is needed to be done. African Union finished the exercise and we hope an announcement will be made in October," he said.

The genesis of this struggle is now even older than the US involvement in Afghanistan. In Kenya former Pres,Daniel Arap Moi blamed the Sudan's Islamist government for creating a religious conflict in Kenya. He was aware that radicals in Khartoum were responsible for the growth of the Islamist movement in coastal Kenya. Especially worrisome was the problem at Mombasa, Kenya's only major seaport. Moi specifically objected to Sudanese support for the outlawed Islamic Party of Kenya (IPK), a movement that Sudanese politician Hasan al-Turabi had helped found at Mombasa. Following the secret IPK conclave dated 15 January 1992, the Islamists worked in concert with Sudanese brothers to mentor promising Muslim students. Scores were enrolled at the radical Islamic African Center in Khartoum. Students were given a "fast-track" education and then returned to the Horn of Africa to disseminate revolutionary Muslim -- Islamist --propaganda in coastal Kenya and along its border with Somalia. Kenya has been faced with an Islamist problem every since.
[ToloNews] Hibatullah Alizai, the commander of the Special Operations Corps, said that a clearance operation in Lashkargah city, the capital of Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... province, began on Wednesday night.
The operation was launched about 10:00 pm local time in PD1 of Lashkargah, Alizai said, and he urged residents to evacuate areas under Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... control as the Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s and ground operations move forward, warning that the Taliban are "using civilian homes" as fighting positions.
The operation began on Wednesday night after hundreds of Afghan commandos and special forces were deployed to Helmand on Tuesday, according to officials.
Alizai said the Taliban’s designated governor for Helmand was killed in the fight with security forces, but the Taliban denied this claim.
"The Taliban has suffered heavy casualties in the Helmand festivities," he said.
Thursday marks the ninth day of fighting in Lashkargah.
Airstrikes in several parts of Lashkargah were carried out on Wednesday night, according to security forces.
There have been no numbers available since Wednesday night of casualties sustained by government forces or of civilians.
Out of 10 districts in Lashkargah, nine have been captured by the Taliban in the recent fighting. Twelve of the 13 districts in Helmand are controlled by the Taliban. Only Kajaki district remains under government control.
On Wednesday, fighting continued near the police HQ, governor's office, the prison, the National Directorate of Security ...the Afghan national intel agency... (NDS) and other government buildings in PD1 of the city, according to the local officials.
All key government offices are in PD1.
Previously, the residents of Helmand said that houses, shops, and markets have sustained heavy damage during the ongoing festivities.

At least 30 people, including members of the military, were killed by jihadi rebels in northern Burkina Faso, the government said Thursday.
Eleven civilians, 15 soldiers, and four volunteer defense fighters, were killed by ``terrorists'' in several villages outside the town of Markoye in Oudalan province near the border with Niger on Wednesday, Aime Barthelemy Simpore, assistant to the minister of defense, said in a statement.
The non-combatants were killed at midday and the military and volunteers were ambushed four hours later after being detached to secure the area, the government said. At least 10 jihadi rebels were killed and the area has been secured by the army, with air and ground patrols conducting sweeps.
The town of Gorom Gorom, approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Markoye, has been inundated with people fleeing the attack amid fear that the violence was going to spread, an aid worker in the area told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. He insisted on anonymity for his safety.
Violence linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State is increasing in Burkina Faso, killing thousands and displacing 1.3 million people. In June, at least 11 coppers were killed when their patrol was ambushed in the north and earlier that month at least 160 non-combatants were killed in the Sahel region ... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas... , the deadliest violence in years.
This week's violence comes on the heels of a deadly attack in neighboring Niger along the border with Burkina Faso less than a week ago, where jihadis killed at least 19 people, 18 of whom were members of the military.
The escalating holy warrior violence will be difficult to bring under control, according to conflict analysts.
``International and regional efforts to combat militancy face serious challenges in keeping Lions of Islam at bay,'' said Heni Nsaibia, senior researcher at the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project.

[DW] A 54-year-old Syrian man in Berlin is accused of firing a grenade in Damascus in 2014, killing at least seven people. German prosecutors have pursued several war crimes cases.
German police on Wednesday arrested a Syrian man in Berlin for alleged war crimes in Damascus.
Authorities in Germany have investigated several similar cases as Syrian refugees seek justice for war crimes they witnessed in their home country. t
German prosecutors accused the suspect, 54, of having fired a grenade into a crowd of civilians gathered on a square in 2014.
The blast killed at least seven people and injured three, including a 6-year-old child.
"The accused is strongly suspected of having committed war crimes. In connection with this, he is also charged with seven counts of murder and three counts of grievous bodily harm," prosecutors said.

[AlAhram] Twenty-four Chadian soldiers were killed in an attack by jihadist fighters in the troubled Lake Chad region, a senior local official said Thursday.
"Troops from a returning patrol were resting when they were attacked by Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... " on Wednesday, the region's deputy prefect, Haki Djiddi, told AFP.
"Twenty-four troops were killed, several were maimed and others have scattered into the countryside."
Army front man General Azem Bermandoa Agouna confirmed that an attack had taken place at Tchoukou Telia, an island 190 kilometres (118 miles) northwest of the capital N'Djamena, but refused to give any toll.
Troops from "three army sectors have joined the soldiers who came under attack yesterday," Mahamat Fodoul Makay, the governor of Lake province, told AFP.
Lake Chad is a vast area of water and marshland bordered by Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon ...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there... as well as Chad.

The Chadian authorities tend to call the jihadists "Boko Haram" regardless of their affiliation.
In March 2020, around 100 Chadian troops were killed in an overnight attack on the lake's Bohoma peninsula, prompting an offensive the following month led by Chad's then president, Idriss Deby Itno.
After pursing the turbans deep into Niger and Nigeria, Deby said there was "not a single jihadist anywhere" on the Chadian side of the lake region.
Attacks have continued, however.
In July, 11 Cameroonian troops and a civilian were killed in two attacks in Cameroon's Far North region, the tongue of land that lies between Chad to the east and Nigeria to the west.
Deby was killed in April 2021 during fighting against rebels in northern Chad and was succeeded by his son, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, at the head of a military junta.
Boko Haram launched a revolt in northern Nigeria in 2009 before extending its campaign into neighbouring countries.
According to UN figures, more than 36,000 people, most of them in Nigeria, have died and three million have fled their homes.
In 2016, Boko Haram split over its indiscriminate targeting of Moslem civilians and use of women jacket wallahs.

[LegalInsurrection] Life gets more challenging in California daily.
A California law taking effect next year could make pork challenging to find and more expensive to purchase.
Beginning January 1, California will enforce the Farm Animal Confinement Proposition (Prop 12) which was approved by voters in 2018 and requires more space for breeding pigs, egg-laying chickens and veal calves.
Unless the courts intervene or the state temporarily allows non-compliant meat to be sold in the state, California will lose almost all of its pork supply, much of which comes from Iowa, and pork producers will face higher costs to regain a key market.
National veal and egg producers are optimistic they can meet the new standards, but only four percent of hog operations now comply with the new rules.
Experts believe that the price of bacon could soar by up to 60 percent. Shortages are a possibility.
The outlet quoted Matt Sutton, the public policy director for the California Restaurant Association, as saying: "We are very concerned about the potential supply impacts and therefore cost increases."
Should half of California’s pork supply end up lost by the start of next year, the price of bacon could rocket up by 60 percent, which means a $6 pack would increase to $9.60, according to a Hatamiya Group study seen by AP.
While the final regulations are not finished, the rules about the space have been known for years.
The California Department of Food and Agriculture said in response to questions put to them from AP: "It is important to note that the law itself cannot be changed by regulations and the law has been in place since the Farm Animal Confinement Proposition (Prop 12) passed by a wide margin."
California restaurant owners are mounting a challenge.
"Our number one seller is bacon, eggs and hash browns," said Jeannie Kim, who for 15 years has run SAMS American Eatery on San Francisco’s busy Market Street. "It could be devastating for us."
With a reworked menu and long hours, Kim has managed to keep her San Francisco restaurant alive during the coronavirus pandemic. Now, she fears her breakfast-focused diner could be ruined within months by California’s new rules.
The pork industry has filed lawsuits but so far courts have supported the California law. The National Pork Producers Council and a coalition of California restaurants and business groups have asked Gov. Gavin Newsom to delay the new requirements. The council also is holding out hope that meat already in the supply chain could be sold, potentially delaying shortages.
Pigs may not fly, but in California, the pork prices will be sky-high.
Passed by city folk who have absolutely no concept of how food or goods arrive at the shelves they buy from. Some of them are now learning how electricity does or does not arrive at their homes and places of business.

Since most of California's pork comes from Iowa, someone else has pointed out that this is exactly the type of law the Interstate Commerce clause was designed to prevent. I think that's right.
