-Land of the Free
Two stories highlight why the Second Amendment matters so much
[American Thinker] Today’s news forcibly reminded me why our Second Amendment matters so much. The abstract principles behind it make eminent sense but two news stories really bring home how wise our Founders were to include the people’s right to bear arms in our Bill of Rights.

Although few people remember this fact, the first shots fired at Lexington and Concord in 1775 occurred because British troops were heading to Boston to seize arms and powder that the colonists had been gathering. That battle sparked an eight-year-long revolution against a tyrannical government that held that colonists were money-making machines for the British homeland while denying them their rights.

When the Americans secured their victory, they understood that it couldn’t have occurred without their access to arms—access long guaranteed to British Protestants under the Bill of Rights of 1689. It was therefore a "no brainer" for the Founders to remind the federal government, via the Second Amendment, that the people have an inherent right to keep and bear arms, one that is subject to only the lightest and most necessary infringement.

The Founders’ wisdom has been borne out by the history of the 20th and (to date) 21st centuries. Although the drive-by media loves to lead with stories about gun crimes, there are two data points even more significant than the fact that most seem to occur in Democrat-run, heavily gun-controlled regions.

The first is that, per a CDC study published under the Obama administration, having a gun is the safest self-defense strategy. Even more significantly, defensive use of guns occurred between 500,000 to 3 million times per year, far outweighing the annual 30,000-40,000 gun deaths in America (most of which are suicides).

Government Corruption
Alejandro Mayorkas' 7 border lies
[NY Post] Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas is spinning as fast as he can. But no matter how he tries to wave away the crisis at the border, his appearance on "Fox News Sunday" illustrated how this administration is deceiving the American public. Here are some of Mayorkas’ biggest whoppers:

Lie 1: "Approximately, I think it’s about ten thousand or so, twelve thousand. It could be even higher."
For the last couple weeks, Mayorkas has bobbed and weaved whenever he was asked how many of the Haitians camping under the Del Rio, Texas bridge were being released into the United States and how many were being deported. At one point he blamed "18-hour days" for his lack of clarity. But it’s clear the administration always knew the numbers, they just didn’t want to reveal them. Now that it’s impossible to stop the process, he again lowballs the number at 12,000 — vaguely adding it could be more. He knows it’s more.

Lie 2: "What we do is we follow the law as Congress has passed it."
What bunk. First of all, the administration’s justification for deporting some people to Haiti was Title 42, which allows them to block entry due to the coronavirus health crisis. So what’s the difference between the 2,000 or so they flew to Haiti and the 12,000+ they let in? It seems completely arbitrary. Much more likely is that, faced with backlash from Democratic activists, they stopped using Title 42. Meanwhile, in August, the Supreme Court ruled that the administration must reinstitute President Trump’s "remain in Mexico" policy, which required asylum seekers to wait there until their cases are heard. Biden and Mayorkas are just ignoring it; Texas is going to court to force them to comply. That’s not following the law — that’s flouting it.

Food myths busted: dairy, salt and steak may be good for you after all
Over the past 70 years the public health establishment in Anglophone countries has issued a number of diet rules, their common thread being that the natural ingredients populations all around the world have eaten for millennia — meat, dairy, eggs and more — and certain components of these foods, notably saturated fat, are dangerous for human health.

The consequences of these diet ordinances are all around us: 60% of Britons are now overweight or obese, and the country’s metabolic health has never been worse.

Government-led lack of trust in the healthfulness of whole foods in their natural forms encouraged us to buy foods that have been physically and chemically modified, such as salt-reduced cheese and skimmed milk, supposedly to make them healthier for us.

No wonder that more than 50% of the food we eat in the UK is now ultra-processed.

Israelis Rise Up Against Vaccine Passports
[USSANews] Protests have finally erupted in Israel as it has slowly dawned on people there that the goalposts for vaccine passports keep being shifted by the government.

It is now expected to be announced that at least FOUR vaccinations will be needed to be considered ’fully vaccinated’ and able to engage in society.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
REVIEW: ‘Rationality: What It Is, Why It Seems Scarce, Why It Matters'
[Free Beacon] Face it: Human beings are pretty stupid sometimes. We fall for astrology, vote for morons, buy into conspiracy theories, and send our money to obvious scammers. Today, all this seems to be getting worse as "fake news" and "disinformation" take root and the country fragments along partisan lines—not just when it comes to political beliefs but even when it comes to basic facts.

Oddly enough, though, we’re also stunningly brilliant. Not only have the brightest among us produced stunning feats of science and technology, but even normal people, working without modern tools, can use reason to improve their lives. The hunting-and-gathering that humans did long ago required extensive knowledge and careful thought about plants, seasons, animal behavior, and how humans might get what they want from the world around them.

That’s the tension animating Steven Pinker’s new book Rationality: What It Is, Why It Seems Scarce, Why It Matters. The tome celebrates reason, and it provides a digestible primer on the basics of logic, statistics, and other building blocks of rationality, illustrated with clever brain teasers and the occasional comic. Yet it also explains how the human mind can go wrong and asks why rationality seems to be in short supply these days.

This book does an excellent job explaining the basics of good thinking, though Pinker’s final musings about what ails the modern world are a bit unsatisfying.

Pinker’s thinking toolkit is laid out in a series of lucid chapters in the middle of the book. They explain the basics of formal logic: "If it rained, then the streets are wet" doesn’t imply "if the streets are wet, then it rained," for example, because something else might have made the streets wet. Pinker also goes through the core concepts of probability, explaining, for instance, why a 50 percent chance of rain on Saturday and a 50 percent chance of rain on Sunday don’t add up to a 100 percent chance of rain over the weekend.

He further introduces readers to "signal detection theory," the study of all the weird stuff that happens when we’re forced to grapple with false positives and false negatives. For instance, if a test for a disease is 95 percent accurate, but only 1 percent of people have the disease, a positive test will still suggest you probably don’t have the disease: In every 100 people tested, about one will correctly receive a positive result, but about five will receive false positives. Unless, that is, there are other reasons to think your risk might be higher than a random person’s—in which case we might use "Bayesian" reasoning to integrate the results of the test into everything else we know. Then it’s on to game theory, such as the famous Prisoner’s Dilemma, and social science’s never-ending quest to distinguish causation from mere correlation. In the latter, I was especially impressed by Pinker’s explanation of how regression analysis works, which manages to be simple and easy to follow while capturing some of the more technical details.

#1  Rationality also gave us marxism, hence communism hence 150+ million dead, eugenics, the Holocaust, euthanasia. It's not all upside by any means, especially in a moral vacuum.

#2  /\ What is 'regression analysis' and what does it mean to perform a regression?

Regression analysis is a reliable method of identifying which variables have impact on a topic of interest. The process of performing a regression allows you to confidently determine which factors matter most, which factors can be ignored, and how these factors influence each other.

In order to understand regression analysis fully, it’s essential to comprehend the following terms:

  • Dependent Variable: This is the main factor that you’re trying to understand or predict.
  • Independent Variables: These are the factors that you hypothesize have an impact on your dependent variable.

In our application training example above, attendees’ satisfaction with the event is our dependent variable. The topics covered, length of sessions, food provided, and the cost of a ticket are our independent variables.

#5  I took a semester of Bayesian statistics in college, and it was one of the best courses I ever took. It is VERY useful for breaking down events among several potential causes and analyzing each one. It's deceptively simple; but the applications can be devilishly complicated. People Who Voted For Joe Biden Are Now Abandoning Him In Droves
[Gateway] Every week, the polling news for Joe Biden continues to get worse.

A new I&I/TIPP Poll shows that even people who voted for Biden are now deserting him in significant numbers.

Biden is a disaster and you don’t have to go looking to see the effect his presidency is having on the country.

I&I/TIPP Poll: Biden Voters Abandon Him In Droves
If an election were held today, a substantial number of those who voted President Joe Biden in November wouldn’t do so now, a new I&I/TIPP Poll shows. This comes after a spate of recent polls from TIPP and others suggesting Biden’s political support is in a freefall as Americans question his leadership on issues ranging from COVID-19 to the chaos on the U.S.’ southern border to the recent botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The I&I/TIPP Poll asked Americans: "If the presidential election were held today, and the following were the candidates, for whom would you vote?"

Respondents were given the following choices: "Donald Trump, the Republican," "Joe Biden, the Democrat," "Other," "Not sure," and "Prefer not to answer."

Just 46% of those who voted in the November 2020 election said they’d vote for Biden today, more than five full percentage points below his official total 51.3% share in the 2020 presidential election.

That doesn’t mean voters are wishing they’d instead picked Trump, who in recent weeks has hinted at a possible re-run in 2024. The poll found 42% said they’d pick Trump now, down from his actual 2020 election total of 46.9%...

Also interesting is where Biden lost the most support — among women, suburbanites, moderates, and the middle-class. In other words, the key groups that helped put him in the White House.

The questions that remain now are, whether Biden will even finish his first term and if he does, will he try to run again in 2024?

He will be such damaged goods by then.

VDH - The Symptoms of Our Insanity
[American Greatness] Think for a minute.

When did we become a nation of socialist AOCs wearing "Tax the Rich" dresses to $35,000-a-ticket celebrity galas, without mandatory masks, while being served by masked servants—a now tired script from the Obama birthday bash crowd to the grandees at the Emmys?

When did we discover that we must listen to oppressed billionaire Oprah from her $90 million Montecito estate commiserating with a billionaire Lebron or royal Meghan Markle about the racist white establishment? Is there anyone in the recent Washington intelligence and investigatory hierarchy who has not lied or feigned loss of memory under oath—a low bar that nevertheless excludes, among others, John Brennan, James Clapper, James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Robert Mueller, or Peter Strzok?

Did anyone just five years ago believe the following could possibly happen in America—and invoke almost no popular outrage from a somnolent public?

Item: The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, does not deny that: 1) he deliberately aborted the legal chain of operational command—that is, violated the law—by recalibrating established protocols for using nuclear weapons in times of crisis. And he says his interventions were based on his own diagnoses (after prompting from opposition leader, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) that the commander-in-chief was crazy, and thus could be circumvented.

And 2), in freelancing style, Milley, on more than one occasion, called the top figure of the Chinese Communist People’s Liberation Army, General Li Zuocheng. He reportedly announced that his own country was currently in crisis (experiencing "messy" democracy), reassuring the Chinese that if he, Milley, the newfound autokrator, sensed there was any chance of hostile and aggressive action on the part of his own country, then on his own initiative he would tip off the Chinese in advance. And far from resigning or being fired for his Strangelovian efforts, Milley would then be hailed as a hero by the popular media and progressive civil libertarians. In other words, for the Left, it is as if Burt Lancaster’s movie character, Air Force General James Mattoon Scott, was the real hero of Seven Days in May.

Milley has also become the Zelig or Forrest Gump of our times. He turns up at almost all our recent military melodramas and disasters. Milley appears variously in the photo-op/federal troops/tear-gas spoof, the virtue-signaled rumored resignation, the talking referent in anonymously sourced books, puff-piece op-eds, and backgrounder quotes, the Inspector Javert of "white rage," the student of How To Be An Antiracist, the Afghanistan progress reassurer, the "righteous" drone striker, the adjudicator between January 6 "coups" and 120 days of "penny packet protests" costing $2 billion-dollars in riot and arson destruction and 28 deaths, the Article 88 violator, the reductio ad Hitlerum promulgator, and the underappreciated but rumored polymath bibliophile.

GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz said Tucker Carlson is correct about white nationalist 'replacement' conspiracy
[Insider] Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida appeared to endorse a white nationalist conspiracy theory that Tucker Carlson promoted on his Fox News show last week.

".@TuckerCarlson is CORRECT about Replacement Theory as he explains what is happening to America," Gaetz, a Republican, wrote in a tweet Saturday.

Carlson embraced the "Great Replacement Theory" on his show Wednesday during a segment attacking President Joe Biden for the Haitian migrant crisis that played out on the southern border last week.

He accused Biden of intentionally bringing immigrants into the country for political purposes and falsely said Biden supports open borders.

    Government Corruption
Howie Carr: Abolish the FBI? You heard it here first
[Boston Herald] I saw a headline this week in The Wall Street Journal that made my day: "Abolish the FBI."

The reason I was so pleased was because above my column in this newspaper on Jan. 24, 2018, was this headline: "Scandal-ridden FBI must be abolished."

Is there an echo in here?

All I can say is, what took everybody else so long to realize how rotten to the core the Famous But Incompetent G-men have become, and actually have been for more than half a century now?

As the Journal noted, the FBI’s last sustained good "run of publicity ... came more than 50 years ago thanks to Efrem Zimbalist Jr. and his weekly show on ABC, "The FBI," which went off the air in 1974.

Even by dismal modern FBI standards, though, the news just keeps getting worse and worse.

Last week, one of Hillary Clinton’s lawyers was indicted by Russian collusion hoax Special Counsel John Durham. The Democrat operative was charged with lying to a James Comey briefer about one of the largely forgotten lies in the Russian hoax — Alfa Bank’s "secret servers," which of course didn’t exist except in the fevered imaginations of far-left Democrats and their stenographers in the media.

Durham has been taking his own sweet time bringing these corrupt Deep State bad actors to justice, but better late than never. He knows a lot about how deep the corruption runs. He first brought down Whitey’s FBI hitman, Zip Connolly.

This latest indictment came only days before the five-year statute of limitations ran out.

Five years! It took that long to bring a single one of these bent Democrats before the bar of justice. But then, in this case, as in so many others involving the FBI, the cops are the actual criminals.

The joke in this latest bust is that obviously the FBI knew that Hillary’s lawyer was lying when he told the agent that he was peddling his ludicrously false stories.

Maybe not, though. They’re not making special agents like Inspector Lew Erskine anymore.

The New Springfield Armory Emissary 1911 – Full Review (Bonus Video w/ Rob Leatham)
[Guns America] The latest entry into the single-stack 1911 world comes from Springfield Armory. Springfield has been making 1911s for decades but their newest pistol, the Emissary is a bit different. The Emissary is not a competition gun; it’s a carry or tactical pistol. I don’t know who is still carrying a full-size 5-inch 1911 these days, but some people must be because companies like Springfield are still making them.

The first thing you notice about the Emissary is that it has a square trigger guard which is a first on a production 1911 from Springfield. That’s where it all started — making a 1911 with a square trigger guard. The design went through many different variations until it became what we see today. Other unique features include the tri-top slide, bull barrel and 10 LPI blocks on the grips, front and back strap.

Taliban Terrorists Plead with International Airlines to Resume Afghan Flights
[Breitbart] Taliban terrorists said Sunday that Afghanistan’s skies are safe for the return of international flights, adding all technical issues at the main Kabul airport have been resolved.

Facilities at the capital’s air transport hub were badly damaged in the chaotic evacuation of more than 120,000 people that ended August 30 with the withdrawal of the last U.S. and allied troops.

AFP reports since then only charter flights have been operating to the newly declared Islamic Caliphate, although Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Iran’s Mahan Air and Afghanistan’s Kam Air have run a limited number of special flights.

    -Short Attention Span Theater-
A Never-Before-Released Johnny Cash Performance - 'The Ballad of Ira Hayes'
[Garden & Gun] Nineteen sixty-eight was the year Johnny Cash turned his life around. The year prior, Cash was in the throes of alcohol and drug addiction and amid a messy divorce from his first wife, Vivian Liberto. He and his four daughters were living in California, but he fled to Tennessee by himself, holing up in a cave on land he owned outside of Chattanooga. Cash found religion in that cave, gave his life to God, and emerged to find his soon-to-be fiancée, June Carter, waiting for him (she had been tipped off to his whereabouts by friends). Carter got him to Nashville to clean up, and in January 1968, Cash performed at Folsom State Prison in California.

The resulting live album, At Folsom Prison, would go on to sell more than 500,000 copies that year alone. But just prior to that album’s release in May, Cash played a show in San Francisco at the Carousel Ballroom, a 3,000-capacity venue operated by members of the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. The Haight-Ashbury counterculture scene was going full tilt, and only 700 people showed up to the gig. But they saw a doozy of a show. Now, released for the first time, the forthcoming Bear’s Sonic Journals: Johnny Cash, at the Carousel Ballroom, April 24, 1968 captures the 28-song set. Cash is relaxed and chatty throughout, his boundless charisma overflowing while he takes requests and gives a shout out to folk singer Gordon Lightfoot, who was in the audience.

The live album serves as a missing middle piece between the Folsom Prison performance and the seminal 1969 Johnny Cash at San Quentin. While those two albums are urgent and raw, the Carousel show sounds spectacular. It was recorded by Owsley Stanley, aka Bear, the Dead’s famed audio engineer. For you audiophiles, Stanley recorded Cash and his backing band, the Tennessee Three, on two separate channels—Cash on the right, band on the left. It takes a few songs to get used to the mix, but the results are exquisite, as if you’re standing in between Cash and the band as the music envelops you.

Cash altered his normal set list for the Carousel show, adding a couple of Bob Dylan covers and dipping deeper into his catalog of songs that speak to those overlooked by society, like "The Ballad of Ira Hayes," which Garden & Gun is premiering below. Written by Peter La Farge, the song tells the story of Hayes, a Pima Indian, who was one of the six Marines who planted the American flag on the island of Iwo Jima during World War II, immortalized in a photo that has become one of the most iconic American images of all time. Though Hayes was a celebrity when he returned from the war, fame was fleeting, and he tragically sunk into alcoholism and poverty before his death at age thirty-two.

"’The Ballad of Ira Hayes’ is a song for a heroic outsider sung to a room of outsiders from the Sixties counterculture, demonstrating another of the many ways that Johnny Cash was able to connect with absolutely everyone he played for," says Hawk Semins, executive producer of the Owsley Stanley Foundation. "As Bob Weir explains in the liner notes, Cash had an uncanny way of inhabiting the characters in his songs, and this unadorned performance, with no backing vocals or strings, is a perfect example of this particular gift. Hearing this classic performed in this way furthers the poignant message of the song."

Listen to the track below. At the Carousel Ballroom will be released digitally and on CD on October 29, and as a double-LP vinyl set on December 3, and is available for preorder here.

    -Land of the Free
Loudon County's school board stops at nothing to prevent Matt Walsh from speaking
[American Thinker] Loudoun County, Virginia, America’s richest county, is a Washington, D.C.’s bedroom community. That proximity to D.C. probably explains why Democrats hold seven out of the nine seats on the school board, leading the school district to embrace both Critical Race Theory and gender madness. Now that its leftist antics have gained it national attention, Loudoun’s school district is violating state rules—and engaging in conduct it would surely consider racist for elections—to shut down commentary. Its loudest critic, though, managed a perfect end-run around the rule.

The Loudoun County Public Schools district ("LCPS") has spent tens of thousands of dollars training teachers to teach Critical Race Theory ("CRT"), which categorically derides all Whites as racists and all Blacks as victims and that attacked "heterosexism" and parental control. The result of this racist, zero-sum thinking was that the district become notorious for canceling several Dr. Seuss books, while teachers formed a cabal to attack any parents who objected to CRT.

LCPS has also embraced wholeheartedly the idea of the "transgender" fad, even though there’s no scientific support for this theory. This fad is as evil as witch-burning given the number of lives it destroys, whether it’s the deluded people who are chemically and surgically mutilated or the sane ones hounded out of the public square for trying to stop this madness. For example, the LCPS board fired a teacher who stated at a public board meeting that he cannot in good conscience use anti-science pronouns. The Virginia Supreme Court reversed that firing but it remains to be seen whether the teacher can be fired again for violating the policy in his classroom.

Of course, we know the hypocrisy behind all this virtue signaling. It’s one thing if parents vote to flood poor Hispanic and Black communities with potentially dangerous illegal aliens from Haiti and Afghanistan. It’s another thing entirely if schools in those same Blue communities say that it's systemically racist for your White son to attend an Ivy League college or that your daughter must share a locker room or compete in sports with a fully equipped male who insists he’s a girl. Still, the leftist hysteria endangers children and liberty, so it needs to be stopped.

Matt Walsh, a celebrated political commentator, is now making it his business to speak out against school board madness whenever school boards institute policies about makes, CRT, or transgenderism. And he’s very, very good, as a viral video of him at a Nashville school board meeting shows:

French soldier killed in Mali in clash with armed terrorist group
[France24] A French serviceman was killed early on Friday in a clash with an armed militant group in Mali, French officials said.

More than 50 French soldiers have died in the region since Paris deployed a counterterrorism force in 2013 to drive back Islamist militant groups that had seized cities and towns in northern Mali.

According to a statement from the French defence ministry, the soldier who was killed, Maxime Blasco, was part of a French unit deployed to a forested area near Mali’s border with Burkina Faso.

FL Sheriff Calls on Armed Homeowners to Blow Suspect ‘Out the Door' After Saturday Shooting
[Breitbart] Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper is calling on armed citizens in his county to "blow [35-year-old Patrick McDowell] out the door" if he targets their home.

McDowell is wanted for allegedly shooting Nassau County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Moyers during a traffic stop Friday. The New York Post reports that Moyers is not expected to survive and is being kept alive "until a match can be found for his organs."

The Florida Times-Union notes that "Moyers was shot in the face, below his right eye, then in the back after collapsing to the ground," during the traffic stop in the area of Callahan, Florida.

Sheriff Leeper responded by warning the public about McDowell, saying, "We now have a murderer on the loose in our community."

Leeper added, "This guy is dangerous. If you’re in a home and he breaks into your home and you have a gun, blow him out the door cause he’s like a rabid animal. He will kill you with his mindset. What he did to that deputy, was uncalled for, unnecessary and he needs to pay for it."

    Europe
Ex-Islamic Radical Says Extremists Are Present in Every Swedish Mosque
[Breitbart] A former radical Islamic Salafist preacher says that radicalism is present in every Swedish mosque and that Salafism is becoming more and more popular with younger people.

Anas Khalifa, who had been a radical Salafist preacher for around 20 years, was once one of the most prominent radical Moslems in the country but is said to have turned his back on fundamentalist ideology.

According to Khalifa, radicalism has become more and more prevalent in Sweden’s Moslem community. He told broadcaster SVT that there is a Salafist in every mosque in the country.

"They are everywhere online, they have hundreds of thousands of followers. I’m probably the only one who’s not a Salafist who has 60-70,000 followers," Khalifa said, claiming that he has seen young people born and raised in Sweden who have still become followers of Islamic radicals.

"I have travelled from Boden to Ystad, lectured in associations and mosques for several years, and I have always found someone who is Salafist there," he said, added that Salafists
...Salafists are ostentatiously devout Moslems who figure the ostentation of their piety gives them the right to tell others how to do it and to kill those who don't listen to them...
often also behave as morality police in their communities, telling others what to do.

Problems with so-called morality police have been an issue in some areas of Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
for years, and in 2018 Sweden’s centre-right Moderate Party proposed criminalising anyone caught acting in such a manner.

"They spread hatred against non-Moslems — Christians, Jews. They spread strong prejudices about other groups and minorities, and they sometimes cover that up nicely. They try to explain it and justify it in different ways, but the basic message is this hatred," Khalifa said.

Khalifa also added that, in the past, he had personally known many of the Swedish nationals who had travelled to the Middle East to join the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terrorist organization, saying: "I’ve never sent anyone down, but I haven’t stopped anyone from leaving when I find out... I have blood on my hands."

Earlier this year in May, Swedish terrorism expert Magnus Ranstorp claimed that Moslem holy warriors were continuing to recruit and spread their ideology in Sweden.

"It’s basically been a disaster. Especially in the area of prevention, but also in terms of legislation," Ranstorp said.

In August this year, Paleostinians protesting against an illegal Israeli outpost in the West Bank set fire to a Star of David combined with a swastika.

In 2018, Paleostinians at the Gaza border flew a kite marked with a swastika and carrying a petrol bomb into Israel.

Saturday’s incident came amid rising tensions in the region, with a spike in violence in recent months in the West Bank.

A day earlier, a 27-year-old Paleostinian man was killed by live fire during festivities with Israeli soldiers near the West Bank town of Beita, the Paleostinian Authority health ministry said.

Another eight Paleostinians were maimed by rubber-coated bullets, the Paleostinians’ official Wafa news agency reported.

The Israeli army said in a statement that its forces had responded to violent mostly peaceful festivities near the Evyatar outpost where hundreds of Paleostinians participated, including some who burned tires and threw stones at troops.

Hamas cell hit in West Bank raids planned massive Jerusalem terror attack – TV
[IsraelTimes] Well-organized network was reportedly planning a series of kidnappings and murders across the country.

Raids that targeted alleged members of a Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, cell in the West Bank overnight Saturday, and killed five Paleostinian suspects, prevented a major terror attack reminiscent of the Second Intifada, officials told Hebrew-language television networks.

The cell planned to conduct a sequence of kidnappings and murders across the country, defense officials told Channel 13 news. The group did not, however, have the capability to commit suicide kabooms, the network said.

Officials estimated to Channel 12 that the cell had also been planning a major attack in Jerusalem, similar to those seen during the violent mostly peaceful uprising in the early 2000s, without elaborating further.

The arrest operation began after the Shin Bet realized that the group was apparently set to carry out the attack imminently, the network said.

The Israel Defense Forces believes some members of the Hamas cell are still on the loose. In total, some 20 suspected members of the cell have been arrested in recent days, according to the military.

-ruling Hamas terror group, Channel 12 said. The cell was well organized and decentralized, the network added.

The operations against the cell in the West Bank will likely continue in the coming days, officials told the Kan public broadcaster. But still, the IDF believes it largely prevented the group’s attacks, according to military assessments.

According to the IDF, at least seven suspected members of the Hamas cell were arrested during arrest raids overnight Saturday, and at least five other suspected bad boyz were potted after they shot up IDF troops. Five guns were also confiscated in the raids, along with large amounts of ammunition. Several other members of the group had been arrested on the preceding nights.

The IDF is also investigating the circumstances in which two soldiers were seriously injured in a shootout and increasingly believe that they were hit by friendly fire, after a Paleostinian gunman shot up them.

"This is a significant achievement, a night of a series of preemptive raids of the utmost importance that prevented — from our understanding — significant terror attacks. Such attacks could have been carried out in Jerusalem, Netanya, Tel Aviv, Afula or anywhere else," IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi said on Sunday afternoon, speaking from the Israel Defense Forces’ Menashe Regional Brigade headquarters in the northern West Bank, following a situational assessment.

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett confirmed that the Hamas cell was planning to carry out terror attacks imminently.

"Security forces acted tonight in Judea and Samaria against Hamas murderous Moslems who were poised to carry out terror attacks in the immediate future," Bennett said in a statement, en route to New York to speak at the United Nations

The IDF refused to comment more specifically on what the alleged Hamas cell was suspected of planning to do, but said that most of the members were arrested with weapons in their possession and that some of them had shot up Israeli troops during the raids.

Germany votes: Projections give Social Democrats narrow lead
[DW] The center-left Social Democrats are ahead of the conservative CDU/CSU bloc by almost 2%, according to initial projected results. In such a tight race, the possibilities for a coalition are still unclear.

The first projected results are in for Germany's 2021 federal election, with the center-left Social Democrats (SPD) on 25.8%, narrowly ahead of the center-right Christian Democrats and their Bavarian sister party (CDU/CSU) on 24.1%.

Both the conservative bloc and the SPD have said they want to lead the next government, and mathematically, either party could if they secure the necessary allies.

The environmentalist Greens are on course to record their best ever result, headed for around 14% of the vote. The pro-business Free Democrats (FDP) had 11.5%, while the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) had 10.5%. The socialist Left party was hovering around the 5% mark.

Iraq court orders arrest of 3 in connection with forum on ties with Israel
Because hating Jews is clearly the most important thing. The next step after yesterday’s repudiation and missile threats.
[Rudaw] An Iraqi court on Sunday issued arrest warrants for three people accused of participating in a conference that called for normalization of ties with Israel.

Warrants have been issued for Wisam al-Hardan, Mithal Aloosi, and Sahar Karim al-Tai, the Supreme Judicial Council announced. Legal measures will be taken against other participants in the conference when they are identified, the court added.

On Friday, more than 300 Iraqis - Sunnis and Shias from across the country - met in Erbil at a conference organized by a US think tank and called for normalization of ties with Israel.

"We demand our integration into the Abraham Accords," Sahar al-Tai, an employee from Iraq’s Ministry of Culture, read from the conference’s closing statement, according to AFP. The Abraham Accords are a US-led Middle East peace initiative that saw Bahrain, Morocco, the UAE, and Sudan forge ties with Israel.

"Just as these agreements provide for diplomatic relations between the signatories and Israel, we also want normal relations with Israel," Tai said.

The conference was condemned by Baghdad and Erbil. Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi called it "illegal" and said ties with Israel are constitutionally rejected. Spokesperson for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Jotiar Adil said the conference was held "without our approval or knowledge" and does "not reflect the views and policies of the KRG."

Aloosi, a former parliamentarian, told Rudaw that the conference called for "balanced relations between Iraq and the Israeli state," but he himself was not in attendance.

Hardan, leader of the Sons of Iraq Awakening movement, had penned an op-ed published Friday in the Wall Street Journal, stating that the conference was to demand Iraq open ties with Israel.

Iran reneges on IAEA access to site where cameras were damaged
[JPost]perhaps if they're given pallets of cash (less 10%, right, Big Guy?)
Iran has reneged on allowing a recent deal with the International Atomic Energy Agency for access to its Karaj nuclear facility, the UN nuclear watchdog said on Sunday.

"The (IAEA) Director General (Rafael Grossi) stresses that Iran's decision not to allow agency access to the TESA Karaj centrifuge component manufacturing workshop is contrary to the agreed terms of the joint statement issued on 12 September," the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement.

"Iran from 20—22 September permitted IAEA inspectors to service identified agency monitoring and surveillance equipment and to replace storage media at all necessary locations in Iran with the exception of the centrifuge component manufacturing workshop at the TESA Karaj complex," the IAEA statement said further.

In mid-September, IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi announced he had reached a deal with the new Iranian government, which was elected in mid-June, that could break the logjam which had led Tehran to block the agency’s inspections since May.

A major revelation that came out of the announcement of the deal was that various IAEA monitoring cameras had been destroyed, damaged or shut off.

However, Grossi said he had received guarantees from Iran that it would almost immediately grant access to fix and otherwise restore the cameras’ monitoring.

Based on this deal, there was a sudden wave of optimism in the West that the ayatollahs may have concluded that they had pushed their obstructionist posture and strategy of increased violations of the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal as far as they could go.

Rome overrun by trash-loving wild boars
[NYPOST] When in Rome... watch out for the wild boars. The famed Italian city is struggling to contain a four-legged invading force of trash-loving wild boars, which wander out of nearby parks to find food, according to the News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

The beasts, which are found in groups of 10 to 30, can weigh up to 220 pounds each.

"I am afraid of walking on the sidewalk, because on one side there are the dumpsters for the rubbish and they (the boars) jump on me," Grazia, 79, said of the animals.

The cheeky boars know no shame, and have even trotted through restaurant owner Pino Consolati’s outdoor seating area.

"We have been invaded here," he said. "It is not a pleasant situation."

Nunes outlines how the indictment shows Hillary Clinton and crew fabricated the entire Trump-Russia narrative as an effort to smear Trump. Many of those same political operatives are now in key positions within the Biden administration.

Additionally, as the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Nunes discusses how the U.S. intelligence community is working against the interests of transparency toward the origin of the COVID-19 virus, and the purposeful expansion of the IRS as a mechanism to target the American electorate.

Turkey to buy more Russian missile systems
[Hot Air] More on this article yesterday
Yesterday, we kicked around the question of whether or not Pakistan can truly be considered an ally of the United States and the rest of the western nations. My unfortunate conclusion was that the government of Pakistan hasn’t been a true ally for quite some time, but we’re sort of stuck with them in a dysfunctional relationship, for the time being, lacking many viable alternatives in the region. A bit of news that broke last night reminds us of another country that will likely fall into the same category. That would be Turkey. While I’ve covered the various sins of Recep Tayyip Erdogan here in the past on more occasions than I could count, he’s still making inflammatory moves to remind us that he is in bed with America’s adversaries far more so than he is with the west. Despite warnings from the United States and the rest of Turkey’s supposed NATO allies, Erdogan is seemingly planning to purchase another shipment of the Russian S-400 missile system.

Turkey’s president has said he would consider buying a second Russian missile system in defiance of strong objections by the United States.

#1  Erdogan is an aspiring demogogue on the Benito Mussolini model, as seems to be trying many of the same options. He's caught between the foreign policy machines of Russia and the US, which are basically driven by the arms dealing corporations in each camp. He seems to be trying to make Turkey into a 'fulcrum' or balance point, when he actually has more of a pothole to work with.
Erdogan's kinda like Saddam Hussien: a medium capable leader on a very small platform. He only has two or three drums to hit, expect him to play them often.

[Telegraph, Yahoo]: Wuhan scientists planned to release coronavirus particles into cave bats, leaked papers reveal
    by Sarah Knapton

Wuhan and US scientists were planning to release enhanced airborne coronavirus particles into Chinese bat populations to inoculate them against diseases that could jump to humans, leaked grant proposals dating from 2018 show.

New documents show that just 18 months before the first Covid-19 cases appeared, researchers had submitted plans to release skin-penetrating nanoparticles and aerosols containing "novel chimeric spike proteins" of bat coronaviruses into cave bats in Yunnan, China.

They also planned to create chimeric viruses, genetically enhanced to infect humans more easily, and requested $14million from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa) to fund the work.

So perhaps they'd have come up with a human-transmission enhanced version of the virus that was already running loose in the wild reservior. Perfect plausible deniability.

One anonymous World Health Organization (WHO) scientist told The Telegraph that Daszak’s grant proposal shockingly proposed plans to enhance the more deadly MERS (Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome).

"The scary part is they were making infectious chimeric Mers viruses," said the source, adding "These viruses have a fatality rate over 30 per cent, which is at least an order of magnitude more deadly than Sars-CoV-2."

Also note, this seems to be a different set of grants than the ones we found out about on Sept. 8th.

Two inmates found dead in Iranian prison south of Tehran
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iranian prison authorities confirmed the deaths of two inmates within a week at a jail south of the capital and opened investigations into the circumstances.

"A committee has been set up to probe the death of Amir-Hossein Hatami in Grand Tehran prison," penitentiary authorities in the capital announced in a brief statement issued late Saturday.

The Ghanoun newspaper said Hatami was a 22-year who worked in Tehran bazaar and had been arrested after getting into a fight.

On Thursday, the chief of Iran’s prisons, Mohammad-Mehdi Hadj-Mohammadi, ordered an investigation into the death of Chahine Nasseri, another inmate of Grand Tehran, located some 30 kilometers (20 miles) from the capital.

Hadj-Mohammadi last month acknowledged cases of "unacceptable behavior" after footage of prison guards beating and mistreating detainees was reportedly obtained by hackers who accessed surveillance cameras at Tehran’s Evin prison.

Midtown NYC still a haven for junkies after Post expos

[NYPOST] Manhattan’s latest shooting gallery was back open for business Sunday — a day after The Post reported on the disturbing daytime drug spree in the Garment District.

Three men were spotted shooting up heroin in front of an apartment building on West 36th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues Sunday afternoon, with two of them abandoning the third who had passed out on the sidewalk, as a traffic cop wrote tickets nearby.

"Can you call an ambulance?" one man could be heard asking after attempting to revive his sick pal by pouring water on his head.

Forty minutes later, a fourth man approached the still-high man, asking if he was alright.

"They left me for dead," the man replied, visibly tweaking from the drugs.

One block away, on West 35th Street, another pair injected themselves in front of a store called Leather, Suede, Skins — with zero cops in sight.

The first man could be seen shooting up in his arm, fingers and ankle. The other man injected his arm.

Several passersby hardly took notice to the men in the bustling neighborhood-turned-heroin hotspot.

The Garment District is no stranger to open-air drug use. Last summer, The Post reported significant drug use in the plaza at Broadway and West 40th Street.

"Sometimes when I’m walking, I see a lot of people doing it," said Modou Trawally, 44, a fabric store worker on West 35th Street. "It’s dangerous. You see someone inject himself. He’s not a doctor. It’s a problem. If the city can help them that would be better."

Another local worker, who didn’t want to be named, said the city needs to clean up the area.

"It’s horrible," he said, adding that he witnessed someone getting high last week as he was exiting the subway at 34th Street. "I saw someone shooting up and his friend said he’s got diabetes. I said, ’Yeah, right.""

NYPD and City Hall did not return requests for comment.

i flights, others did not," he said.

Yingst’s latest video featured one man with a green card seeking help to escape Afghanistan.

The report follows news last week of an elderly Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, couple who is returning home after being trapped in Afghanistan for weeks following the U.S. military’s departure from the country, according to California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa.

"This is a cause for celebration and the result of almost countless hours of work under very difficult conditions," Issa said in a statement.

"Our team simply would not give up, and today it paid off and we got them home."

The names of the couple are reportedly being withheld at the family’s request due to fear of violence toward relatives who remain in Afghanistan.

Issa’s office said it has helped 33 Americans and holders of American visas to escape Afghanistan.

"While we have made extraordinary progress, but we’re not stopping until everyone comes home," Issa said.

    India-Pakistan
Police arrests 29 men in India, accused of repeatedly gang-raping 15-year-old girl
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Twenty-nine men were arrested in India on Thursday after being accused of allegedly gang raping a 15-year-old girl repeatedly over the course of almost eight months, CNN
...the organization formerly known as the Cable News Network. Now who knows what it might stand for...
    reported on Friday.

The girl was first raped earlier this year on January 29, junior officer with the Mandapa police in Dombivli, India Dinkar Munke told CNN.

The rape was filmed, and the video was then used as blackmail. She was repeatedly threatened with it for eight months, Munke said.

The abuse, which lasted until last week, reportedly involved 33 perpetrators, including two teenagers, all of whom who partook in the rape of the 15-year-old victim.

Her family, who had no previous knowledge on the matter, found out and went straight to the police on Wednesday to file a complaint.

The 29 perpetrators were arrested both under the country’s penal code and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) law, resulting in more severe sentences.

"We are investigating the allegations and how the initial contact came about. But the girl knew some of the men and had come in contact with a few through social media," the senior police official heading the investigation, Sonali Dhole, said.

He added that the victim was taken to multiple locations within Dombivli, a city which neighbors Mumbai in Maharashtra state, and outside.

The incident is the latest in a series of rape cases and controversies in the country.

Two weeks ago, a woman who was allegedly raped in Mumbai died of the injuries inflicted on her by her abusers. She was found lying unconscious in a minibus.

Activists have said that the case was similar to the brutal 2012 gang-rape and murder of a student which prompted mass protests across the entire country.

Another gruesome rape case in India took place last month, when a nine-year-old girl was gang-raped and murdered in Delhi to which four men, including a Hindu priest, were charged for their involvement in her death.

There has been an increase in reported cases over the years. More than 32,000 rape cases were recorded in 2019, up from 25,000 in 2021, according to the CNN. However,
a person who gets all wrapped up in himself makes a mighty small package...
the number could be much higher in reality since many cases go unreported.

    Afghanistan
More Talibs remaking society: woman closes driving school, internat’l students can’t go abroad

Female Investor to Close Women's Driving Center in Kabul

[ToloNews] An Afghan female investor, Nilab, has decided to close a driving training center for women that was established a year ago in Kabul.

Nilab said that no girl or a woman has visited the center during the past month despite the interest of more than thirty women who want to learn to drive.

"I face an unclear future," Nilab said.

Mughda, who trained at the center months ago, said women need to continue their work and skill-building. "I aimed to learn to drive, to stand on my own two feet, and to not depend on anyone."

Women told TOLOnews that they should not be deprived of working and studying, as they make up half of the society.

"Not only me, all Afghan women and girls have some prominent goals. They don’t want to be in need. It is good to become a doctor, a manager and so on, to find halal (legal) food," Giti said.

    In the meantime, Taliban
    ...mindless ferocity in a turban...
officials declared that women are permitted to work and study in accordance with Islamic laws. "Women can work in any field based on the Islamic framework," said Sayed Khosti, a member of the cultural commission.

The Taliban have so far not allowed girls to attend secondary school.

Afghan Students Accepted to Intl Programs Cannot Travel

[ToloNews] A number of Afghan university students who won scholarships cannot attend international programs because the passport office in Kabul remains closed and travel documents cannot be obtained.

The students told TOLOnews they need to renew their passports or they will not be able to receive their visas.

An Afghan student, Najiullah Aryamehr, won a scholarship to study management at a Russian university last year, but he could not travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the closing of borders.

    However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
he took an online class to learn the Russian language.

"No one hears our voices. We have serious problems," Aryamehr told TOLOnews.

According to these students, classes have already started and there is an urgent need for passports.

Mohammad Zamir Rahmani said: "We have to update our passports to get visas. We will be deprived of an education if we cannot get visas."

"We will lose our scholarships ... the fate of more than three hundred students is still unclear," said student Sekander Jamili.

Sources said that on average around 2,000 Afghan students receive scholarships from schools in India, Russia, Pakistain, China, Japan, Uzbekistan and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
    each year.

More than 40,000 Afghan students benefited from scholarships over the last two decades, according to available information.

In the meantime, officials of the caretaker government said efforts are being made to employ educated people:

"There is a need for professional youth. We plan to recruit them. No one will remain unemployed," said Zabihullah Mujahid, deputy minister for culture and information.

One killed, several injured as gunmen attack church in Kaduna
[THECABLE.NG] One person was killed, while several others sustained injuries in an attack at Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Gabaciwa in Kachia LGA of Kaduna state.

The button men were said to have attacked worshippers during the Sunday morning service.

In another attack in Igabi LGA, one person was killed by button men in Kamacha community.

Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs, confirmed both incidents in a statement on Sunday.

Aruwan said security agencies reported the attack to the state government, adding that the injured worshippers were taken to the hospital.

Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, condemned the attack and said it was an attempt to cause division in the state.

"Security agencies reported to the government that the attack occurred at ECWA Church, Gabaciwa in Kachia local government area," he said.

"According to the report, a life was lost and some worshippers were seriously injured, who have been rushed to a medical facility.

"The security agencies are obtaining further details, on which the government will update the public in due course."

According to Aruwan, the governor described the incident "as an evil act targetting innocent citizens exercising their constitutional and universal rights to religious freedom".

"The governor added that the attack on the worshippers was a divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
intent of the criminals leveraging religious sensitivity," he said.

"The governor condoled the ECWA Church and the family of the dear departed in particular, and prayed for the repose of the soul of the worshipper.

"The governor, who is awaiting further reports on the incident, has directed the Kaduna State State Emergency Management Agency to assess the area and provide succour to the victims receiving medical attention."

On the attack in Igabi LGA, Aruwan said the governor condoled the family of one Nasiru Abdullahi of Gobirawan Kamacha in Bina general area, who was killed by button men.

"As of the time of this update, government is awaiting other situation reports from security agencies," he added.

Utah football player who wore fallen teammate's number fatally shot at party
[NYPOST] A University of Utah football player — who adopted the jersey number of a teammate fatally shot last year — was bumped off and killed at a house party Sunday, according to reports.
Important safety tip: Never go to a party that doesn't feature cake.
Aaron Lowe, 21, a defensive back from Mesquite, Texas, died from a gunshot wound at the gathering in the city’s Sugar House neighborhood, ESPN reported.

An unidentified female second victim was also struck during Sunday’s 12:20 a.m. incident and remains at death's door, ABC4 Utah reported.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear, and no arrests have been made, officials said. ABC4 reported that there were witnesses and possible video footage.

In a cruel irony, Lowe was Utah’s first ever recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship, which was created after Jordan was accidentally rubbed out in 2020.

Jordan and Lowe had been close friends, with Lowe switching his jersey number last year to honor his fallen teammate.

Lowe, in his third year with the team, had played in each of Utah’s first four games this year.

    Afghanistan
Russia, Pakistan, China, US working together to ensure Taliban’s pledges implemented, recognition not on the table
[KhaamaPress] Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia, Pakistain, China, and the United States are in sync to ensure that the Taliban
    ...Arabic for students...
abide by the promises they have made.
    How?
The Taliban has promised to be respecting human and women’s rights, will not allow extremism in Afghanistan and will establish an all-inclusive government.
Subject to their understanding of Sharia law, which permits none of these things, including any obligation to keep promises made to unbelievers, including those Muslims who do not abide by the Talib takfiri code..
The Russian foreign minister said that representatives of Russia, Pakistain, and China recently visited the Taliban leaders, Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...One of the more egregious mistakes of the post 9-11 era...
    , and Abdullah Abdullah
...the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against both Karzai and Ghani. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun. He also held the meaningless salaried sop position as CEO of Afghanistan, while Ghani was president...
in Kabul after their visit to Doha.

Lavrov said that the caretaker government announced by the Taliban does not reflect the whole Afghan society and added that they are in contact with the Taliban in this regard.
“Hey, guys? You promised to do all the things on this list.”
“Yes, yes, kafir man. But we are still making the transition — it’ll take months and a great deal of money before we have everything organized enough to think about such things. It would go faster if we had more money, though...”
Sergey Lavrov in his UN General Assembly speech also accused the US of hasty decision over its pullout from Afghanistan as there is a large amount of weapons remain which can pose a serious threat.
Only a threat in the hands of those who understand how to use them. Otherwise they’re just future bazaar items,
Russia talks about the implementation of the promises by the Taliban at a time when none of those pledges are implemented yet.

Lavrov Says Taliban Recognition 'Not on the Table'

[ToloNews] Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday that international recognition of the Taliban
    ...mindless ferocity in a turban...
    was not currently under consideration.

Lavrov was speaking on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders in New York for the U.N. General Assembly. His comments come after the Taliban nominated a U.N. envoy, setting up a showdown over Afghanistan's seat at the world body.

"The question of international recognition of the Taliban at the present juncture is not on the table," Lavrov told a news conference.

Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Monday nominated their Doha-based front man Suhail Shaheen as Afghanistan's U.N. ambassador.

Ghulam Isaczai, the current U.N. ambassador who represents the Afghan government ousted by the Taliban, has also asked to renew his U.N. accreditation.

Russia is a member of a nine-member U.N credentials committee - along with China and the United States - which will deal with the competing claims on Afghanistan's U.N. seat later this year.

    U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
has said that the Taliban's desire for international recognition is the only leverage other countries have to press for inclusive government and respect for rights, particularly for women, in Afghanistan.

    17. Step 2: Assess the Hazards: There are numerous therapeutic agents that have been proven to significantly reduce infection and therefore provide protection from the harmful effects of SARs-CoV-2.

    18. Literature has demonstrated that natural immunity is durable, completed, and superior to vaccination immunity to SARs-CoV-2. mRNA vaccines produced by Pfizer and Moderna both have been linked to myocarditis, especially in young males between 16-24 years old,2 The majority of young new Army aviators are in their early twenties. We know there is a risk of myocarditis with each mRNA vaccination. We additionally now know that vaccination does not necessarily prevent infection or transmission of SARs-CoV-2Therefore individuals fully vaccinated with mRNA vaccines have at least two independent risk factors for myocarditis after vaccination. Additional boaster shots add more risk. It is impossible to perform a risk/benefit analysis on the use of mRNA as counter measures to SARs-CoV-2 without further data... Use of mRNA vaccines in our fighting force, presents a risk of undetermined magnitude, in a population in which less than 20 active-duty personnel out of 1.4 million, died of the underlying SARs- CoV-2.

    19. Aircrew Training Program (ATP) 5-19, 1-8. Accept No Unnecessary Risk, states, "An unnecessary risk is any risk that, if taken, will not contribute meaningfully to mission accomplishment or will needlessly endanger lives or resources. Army leaders accept only a level of risk in which the potential benefit outweighs the potential loss.

    20. Research shows that most individuals with myocarditis do not have any symptoms. Complications of myocarditis include dilated cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, sudden cardiac death and carries a mortality rate of 20% at one year and 50% at 5 years. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, U.S. National Library of Medicine, "despite optimal medical management, overall mortality has not changed in the last 30 years".

    21. Step 3: Develop controls and make risk decisions: Because vaccination with mRNA increase the risk of myocarditis, a comprehensive screening program should be implemented immediately to identify individuals who have been affected and attempt to mitigate immediate risks and long-term disability.

An inaccurate Canadian study suggesting an extremely high rate of heart inflammation after COVID-19 vaccines has been retracted due to a major mathematical error — but not before it spread like wildfire on anti-vaccination websites and social media.

"Instead of 32,379 mRNA vaccine doses administered in June and July, as the study suggests, there were actually more than 800,000 shots given out at that time, according to Ottawa Public Health.

That means the true rate of side effects is closer to 1 in 25,000 — not 1 in 1,000. "

Iran: Fire at Islamic Revolutionary Guard facility injures 3 - report
    [JPost] Odd, that.
A series of explosions and fires have hit industrial sites across Iran, including a number of petrochemical plants, in recent months and over the past year.

A fire broke out in one of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) research centers in the west of Tehran on Sunday evening, state media said.

"On Sunday evening a fire broke out in one of the IRGC ... research centers in the west of Tehran. Three people were injured and the fire has been contained," Iran state TV quoted a statement from the IRGC as saying.

No reason was given for the incident.

A series of explosions and fires have hit industrial sites across Iran, including a number of petrochemical plants, in recent months and over the past year. Iranian officials have referred to most of the cases as incidents or accidents, although some reports have claimed that at least some of them involved foul play.

Aging infrastructure in Iran has also been blamed for at least some of the incidents. Frequent blackouts have plagued Iran recently amid a heatwave.

CZG is now much better positioned to compete for law enforcement and military firearms contracts in the U.S., along with expanded civilian firearm sales. Aiming to double its revenue to $1 billion or more, it looks like competition will be ramping up for this industry.

Apr 2021 article on Aspirin and Treatment of Covid
Meanwhile, if you're looking for possible treatment methods that aren't waiting on approval from the bureaucrats who made the virus...

    Full title is...

"Aspirin Use Is Associated With Decreased Mechanical Ventilation, Intensive Care Unit Admission, and In-Hospital Mortality in Hospitalized Patients With Coronavirus Disease 2019"

    Abstract

    BACKGROUND:

Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is associated with hypercoagulability and increased thrombotic risk in critically ill patients. To our knowledge, no studies have evaluated whether aspirin use is associated with reduced risk of mechanical ventilation, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and in-hospital mortality.

    METHODS:

A retrospective, observational cohort study of adult patients admitted with COVID-19 to multiple hospitals in the United States between March 2020 and July 2020 was performed. The primary outcome was the need for mechanical ventilation. Secondary outcomes were ICU admission and in-hospital mortality. Adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) for study outcomes were calculated using Cox-proportional hazards models after adjustment for the effects of demographics and comorbid conditions.
    RESULTS:

Four hundred twelve patients were included in the study. Three hundred fourteen patients (76.3%) did not receive aspirin, while 98 patients (23.7%) received aspirin within 24 hours of admission or 7 days before admission. Aspirin use had a crude association with less mechanical ventilation (35.7% aspirin versus 48.4% nonaspirin, P = .03) and ICU admission (38.8% aspirin versus 51.0% nonaspirin, P = .04), but no crude association with in-hospital mortality (26.5% aspirin versus 23.2% nonaspirin, P = .51). After adjusting for 8 confounding variables, aspirin use was independently associated with decreased risk of mechanical ventilation (adjusted HR, 0.56, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.37-0.85, P = .007), ICU admission (adjusted HR, 0.57, 95% CI, 0.38-0.85, P = .005), and in-hospital mortality (adjusted HR, 0.53, 95% CI, 0.31-0.90, P = .02). There were no differences in major bleeding (P = .69) or overt thrombosis (P = .82) between aspirin users and nonaspirin users.

    CONCLUSIONS:

Aspirin use may be associated with improved outcomes in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. However, a sufficiently powered randomized controlled trial is needed to assess whether a causal relationship exists between aspirin use and reduced lung injury and mortality in COVID-19 patients.

Antihistamines and azithromycin as a treatment for COVID-19 on primary health care – A retrospective observational study in elderly patients
This is of a study from the physicians for a community of elderly patients in Spain.

    Background

Between March and April 2020, 84 elderly patients with suspected COVID-19 living in two nursing homes of Yepes, Toledo (Spain) were treated early with antihistamines (dexchlorpheniramine, cetirizine or loratadine), adding azithromycin in the 25 symptomatic cases. The outcomes are retrospectively reported. The primary endpoint is the fatality rate of COVID-19. The secondary endpoints are the hospital and ICU admission rates. Endpoints were compared with the official Spanish rates for the elderly. The mean age of our population was 85 and 48% were over 80 years old. No hospital admissions, deaths, nor adverse drug effects were reported in our patient population. By the end of June, 100% of the residents had positive serology for COVID-19. Although clinical trials are needed to determine the efficacy of both drugs in the treatment of COVID-19, this analysis suggests that primary care diagnosis and treatment with antihistamines, plus azithromycin in selected cases, may treat COVID-19 and prevent progression to severe disease in elderly patients.

Details of dosage, etc. is available at the link. BTW, dexchlorpheniramine is also known as Myclora, Cetirizine is sold under the trade name Zyrtec, and Loratadine is sold under the name Claratin. Azithromycin is also known under the names "Zithromax" or more colloquially as a Z-Pac.

Seems a pretty simplistic approach to COVID. Going by my own experience, it clobbered me in the space of a few hours. X-rays showed my lungs as almost pure white -- way beyond the reach of the Cetirizine that I take regularly. It took me an hour to get to my feet and walk across the room to get my phone to call 911. Three weeks in the hospital and and three in rehab. When I got to rehab I was too weak to turn over in bed. I still have about half the strength I had last December, before I got it. I also feel like my brain doesn't work as well. Just my recollections.

#14  Now one thing I've found that's interesting that AFAIK hasn't been followed up on: Surgisphere did a similar data-fabricated-from-whole-cloth paper on... not an antimalarial, not a horse paste... but on a damn common human drug, one I take myself: ACE inhibitors.

Medpage Today: Retracted COVID Paper Lives on in New Citations:

Researchers around the world have continued breathing new life into a retracted study, which suggested that common antihypertensive medications were harmful in patients with COVID-19.

Published online on May 1, 2020 in the New England Journal of Medicine, the study relied on Surgisphere data to claim an association between renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitor therapy and worse outcomes in hospitalized COVID-19 patients with cardiovascular disease.

The journal retracted the paper due to concerns about fraudulent data on June 4, 2020 in a widely publicized move, but the study has continued to rack up citations -- totaling at least 652 as of May 31, 2021, reported Todd Lee, MD, MPH, of McGill University in Montreal, and colleagues.

According to my notes, it was further linked to from slashdot.

(I know, I was surprised to find out slashdot still exists).

Anyway, I'd like to see a link to the supposed study on azithromycin.

HATE CRIME HOAX: Black University Employee Arrested For Allegedly Painting Racist Graffiti on School Building
[Daily Wire] In August, someone painted several racist and offensive slurs on a building at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. At the time, local news outlet WSBTV reported that the "Emory Autism Center has become the target of several crimes, including burglary and vandalism, including graffiti of racial slurs and swastikas."

A police report for the incident also mentioned that vending machines in the building were vandalized, along with a glass door that had been shattered. A large rock was found several feet away.

"The area where racial slurs were reportedly written along the walls are near the workspace occupied by two African-American women and a swastika was in a hallway near a Jewish man’s office," WSBTV reported.

In a statement, Emory University spokesperson Laura Diamond told the outlet: "These acts of racism and antisemitism are painful for all of us at the EAC and in the Emory community. They will not be tolerated, and every effort will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice."

A week later, the perpetrator was charged with burglary second degree by Georgia law enforcement and named as Roy Lee Gordon, Jr. The College Fix reported on August 25 that the school was refusing to reveal Gordon’s race and that he wasn’t charged with a hate crime even though such slurs would typically lead to such a charge.

The Fix reported that the school refused to provide a copy of the police report, arrest warrant, or photos of the alleged vandalism.

When Gordon was arrested on August 20, Emory released a much more sanitized statement, saying, "Emory University is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive campus for all faculty, staff, students, patients and their families."

Gordon was arrested on September 22 following the warrant issued a month earlier. Emory released another statement about the matter, identifying Gordon as "a former part-time/temporary employee at Emory."

This statement also addressed the racism inherent in Gordon’s act, without mentioning his race, leading many more to question whether the perpetrator was white, something that certainly would have been mentioned if it were the case.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution finally obtained an arrest photo of Gordon, showing he is black. The College Fix noted that the school knew this but refused to say so for more than a month. The school told the Fix on Thursday: "Unfortunately, we are unable to share any additional details beyond what is in the statement."

"Emory is unable to share personnel information and can’t speculate his intentions," Emory spokesperson.

This is the latest hoax in a series of campus hate crime hoaxes.

    Afghanistan
WaPo Does a post script on how the Afghan Army Fell Apart
lots of quotes and pictures; sample quotes below
[WashingtonPost] As the United States withdrew its forces, Afghanistan special operators were largely moved under the command of the Defense Ministry. The shift robbed the units of a degree of independence that had insulated them from the corruption that handicapped other branches of the country’s security forces, the captain said.

He said he presented his supervisor with multiple plans to reorganize the country’s security forces and to push back the militants’ advances. But each time he was rebuffed.

"Instead, we were sent to conduct clearing operations with no support," he said. "That is not how you win a war. We were letting the enemy choose the battle space; we should have been taking the fight to them."

    ...

"It's because of our leadership that we are in this position," he said, referring to the massive territorial losses the government had suffered in a matter of weeks. "Our leaders sell our checkpoints," he said. "They've already sold our blood."

One police commander said the only men from his unit willing to hold positions against the Taliban were drug addicts.

Man arrested for sexually harassing female during Saudi National Day celebrations
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Authorities in Saudi Arabia have arrested a man after he sexually harassed a female in the city of Taif during the Kingdom’s National Day celebrations at a public park, the Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday.

For the latest headlines, follow our Google News channel online or via the app.

The incident was caught on video and went viral after being shared on social media. The victim was seen wearing an abaya, a traditional long loose-fitting dress, when the man, whom authorities identified as a Saudi national in his 20s, approached the female from behind, touched her then hurried away.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the man is in custody and initial legal measures were taken against him. He has since been referred to the Public Prosecution.

Sexual harassment punishment in Saudi Arabia
Following the incident, the interior ministry announced a list of punishments for those who physically or verbally sexually harass others.

Any “word, action or signal” with a sexual connotation made toward another person physically or verbally is considered harassment, according to the ministry.

A person who commits such a crime will face up to two years in jail, in addition to a fine of up to $27,000 (100,000 Saudi riyals).

The jail term increases to five years and the fine up to $80,000 in case of a repeated offense or if the crime is committed under any of the following circumstances:

    • If the victim is a minor or a person with special needs

    • If the incident happens during an accident or catastrophe

    • If the incident takes place in a school, workplace, shelter or care home

    • If the perpetrator and victim are of the same gender

    -Short Attention Span Theater-
Quitting smoking leads to eating more junk food, weight gain, study finds
Umm... People have only known this since about 1608...
[NYPOST] Put down the pack and pick up a snack.

A new study from the University of Minnesota found that quitting smoking leads to a poor diet, potentially leading to weight gain.

The new study found that the opioid system — the brain functions responsible for addiction and appetite regulation — may cause former smokers suffering from nicotine withdrawal to prefer fatty, sugary foods to fill the void.
I replaced my pipe and gaspers for a jellybean addiction...
The study was led by Dr. Mustafa al’Absi, a licensed psychologist and professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Biobehavioral Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth Campus, who published his findings in the Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence.
What'd they put out for that grant? About twenty bucks?
"We looked at whether or not acute nicotine withdrawal increases the intake of junk food — high in salt, fat and sugar — and how the stress-relieving receptors of the opioid system are involved," al’Absi said in a blurb from the university. "Mitigating these challenges during the treatment process will help patients quit smoking while understanding their eating habits and encourage healthier decisions."

The study analyzed a group of smoking and non-smoking participants between the ages of 19 and 75. All subjects were asked to stop using nicotine for 24 hours and received either a placebo or 50 mg of naltrexone, a drug commonly used to treat patients with substance addition problems.

At the end of the two sessions before and after temporarily quitting, participants were offered a variety of snacks that differed in high to low energy density and dimensions of salty, sweet and fat.

The study found that those who were experiencing nicotine withdrawals consumed more calories. Those who’d taken the naltrexone were less likely to choose a high-calorie food.

"The study’s findings may be related to the use of food, especially those high in calories, to cope with the negative affect and distress that characterizes the feelings people experience during smoking withdrawal," al’Absi said. "Results from preclinical and clinical research support this and demonstrate that stress increases proclivity for high-fat and high-sugar foods."

Weight gain or fear of weight gain after quitting, al’Absi believes, may be a factor in causing some smokers to relapse.

"These findings extend earlier studies that indicate the impact of tobacco use on appetite and help identify the influence of an important biological link, the brain opioid system, on craving during nicotine withdrawal," al’Absi said. "The fear of weight gain is a major concern among smokers who think about quitting. The key to removing these barriers is to better understand the factors that increase the urge for high-caloric foods."

    Africa North
Algeria Postpones Trial of Bouteflika's Brother
[AnNahar] A court in the Algerian capital on Sunday postponed the corruption trial of the younger brother of ousted president Abdelaziz Bouteflika
...10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and served on his third or four terms. When he announced for the fifth, or maybe it was the sixth, visibly doddering, a grateful nation rose up in its wrath and threw him out...
, who died this month, local media reported.

Defense lawyer Miloud Brahimi requested the postponement, citing Said Bouteflika's "psychological condition" after the September 17 death of his brother.

Algerian media said the 63-year-old who served as presidential advisor appeared pale and weak at the court hearing.

The trial of Bouteflika and several co-defendants in the capital's Dar el-Beida suburb was delayed until October 10, but a defense request for their release on bail was turned down.

Said Bouteflika was detained in May 2019, a month after his brother quit office following mass protests against his bid for a fifth presidential term.

Said was sentenced to 15 years in prison for "plotting" against the army and the state, but a retrial in January cleared him of those charges.

He remains in jug on corruption charges, along with several other political and business leaders from the Bouteflika era.

The once-mighty presidential aide was long seen as the real power running the North African country after his brother suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013.

Sudan ruling body chief promises reforms to army days after failed coup
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The general who heads Sudan’s ruling transitional authority on Sunday pledged to reform the army, days after a failed coup.

"We are going to reorganize the armed forces... Partisan activities are banned in the army," Sovereign Council chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said at the opening of a military hospital in Khartoum.

"The armed forces are committed to holding elections on the date fixed for ending the transition" in 2023, he said.

"After that, the army will leave the political scene and its role will be limited to protecting the country."

Sudan is led by a civilian-military administration under an August 2019 power-sharing deal signed after president Omar Bashir’s ouster by the military in April that year following mass protests against his iron-fisted rule.

Sudan’s government said it thwarted a September 21 coup attempt involving military officers and civilians linked to the regime of imprisoned Bashir. At least 11 officers were among those arrested.

Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has since called for reforms within the army, a highly sensitive issue in Sudan.

A transition to full civilian rule has remained shaky, reeling from deep fragmentation among political factions, economic woes and a receding role for civilian leaders.

Paramilitary leader and Burhan’s deputy in the Sovereign Council, Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, has pointed a finger of blame at politicians after the failed coup.

"Politicians are the main cause behind coups because they have neglected the average citizen... and are more concerned fighting over how they can stay in power," Daglo said.

Russia Raids Kill 7 Pro-Turkish Fighters in Syria
[AnNahar] At least seven fighters from a pro-Ottoman Turkish rebel group were killed Sunday in Russian air raids in northern Syria, a war monitor said Sunday.

The strikes hit a "military base" for the al-Hamza Division outside the north Syria town of Afrin which has been under the control of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
and its Syrian rebel proxies since 2018, said the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"Seven fighters were killed and another 13 were maimed in the Russian strikes," said the monitor, which relies on a network of sources inside Syria.

It said the corpse count could climb further amid ongoing efforts to pull victims from the rubble.

Observatory head Rami Abdul Rahman said such Russian raids are rare in this region of Syria, which has been controlled by Turkey and its Syrian rebel allies for three years.

A Russian raid outside Afrin last month targeted a position for Faylaq al-Sham, another Turkey-backed rebel group, he said.

A spokesperson for the National Army, a coalition of Turkey-backed rebel groups, called Sunday's attack a "clear message from Russia" to Turkey, showing that there are no "red lines".

Russia, on the other hand, is a staunch supporter of the Syrian regime and has intervened militarily in support of Assad since 2015.

Although they back opposite sides, Ankara and Moscow have worked together to broker several ceasefire deals in Syria's northwest, including a 2020 ceasefire agreement in the Idlib region, the country's last major opposition bastion.

The picture, name and address of the incoming head of the Israel Security Agency were published by Palestinian media along with the phrase "wanted," Kan reported Sunday night.

It is illegal in Israel to publish the name, but a source told Kan that because the individual is widely known in Israel's security sector and because his picture was taken at a public event, there is no cause for concern.
