Autoimmunity may explain long COVID and rare vaccine side effects
[MedicalNewsToday] A group of researchers recently hypothesized that complex immune responses to the SARS-CoV-2 virus might explain the long-term effectsTrusted Source of COVID-19.

They also suggest these immunologic mechanisms may contribute to the rare, serious side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In a recent New England Journal of Medicine article, co-authors Dr. William J. Murphy and Dr. Dan L. Longo explain how autoimmunity may be the mechanism causing these two distinct complications of the worldwide SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

Autoimmunity
When our bodies are exposed to a virus — or any infection — it recognizes proteins and other molecules on the invading virus as "not us." Scientists refer to this as an antigen.

We then ramp up our immune systems to attack that antigen. Therefore, we try to neutralize infectious invaders, such as the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Once we use our antibodies to attack the invading viral protein, parts of these neutralizing antibody-antigen complexes can also be viewed as "not us" by our bodies. We can also form secondary antibodies, called anti-idiotype antibodies.

Anti-idiotype antibodies
What is the purpose of anti-idiotype antibodies? After the initial benefits of first-line immunity, our body has natural processes to try to flatten our response to challenges. These processes are known as downregulation.

Anti-idiotype antibody production is one of our body’s methods of achieving downregulation. However, the presence of anti-idiotype antibodies can have unexpected negative effects.

Firstly, they can neutralize our infection-fighting first-responder antibodies, so they interfere with our body’s ability to fight the infection if it persists.

Secondly, they can mimic the original invading organism and bind to our cells in the same way. This instigates the same symptoms as the infection or causes an immune-cell attack on our healthy cells.

Drs. Murphy and Longo report that this mimicking behavior by anti-idiotype antibodies has been demonstrated already in models, such as viral diarrhea in bovine animals.

For Medical News Today, Dr. Murphy elaborated:

"This concept of anti-idiotype antibodies mediating effects and limiting efficacy could have a profound impact in understanding how to increase effectiveness and duration of protective antibody responses," he explained. It might also help us "determine if patients are at risk, based on their anti-idiotype responses or allow for therapeutic interventions to be developed."

Spike proteins
The SARS-CoV-2 spike proteinTrusted Source on the surface of the virus binds to angiotensin converting enzyme 2 receptors (ACE2) on our cells.

ACE2 receptors are present on many cells throughout the body, including within the lung, heart, kidneys, nerves, and brain. So, any protein, including a virus protein, binding these receptors can profoundly affect our health.

Once bound to the cell, the spike protein allows the virus to enter it. But, the spike proteins’ negative effects do not stop at simply finding a gateway.

By binding the ACE2 receptors, the spike protein can suppress healthy cell function and stimulate the release of inflammatory proteinsTrusted Source called cytokines.

Mimicking the virus
Regardless of whether we produce first-line antibodies from the vaccine or a SARS-CoV-2 infection, anti-idiotype antibodies have the potential to produce the same symptoms and side effects as infection with the SARS-CoV-2 infection. They achieve this by binding to the ACE2 receptor.

Dr. Murphy clarified for MNT:

"The vast majority of research on both SARS-CoV-2 infection responses and vaccines solely centers on the protective antibody and T cell responses. There needs to be much more investment in basic research on the immunoregulatory pathways that both can limit responses and duration, but also on their ability to mediate off-target effects."

"Given the strong dependency on the population for vaccines and the need for boosting, along with the emergence of viral variants, it is imperative that more research be directed to understanding the mechanisms involved using preclinical models, which simply has not been adequately done."

Dr. Murphy elaborated further: "Despite being put forth by Nobel Laureate Niels Jerne in 1974 as a means for antibody regulation, research in this area of anti-idiotype antibodies has tapered considerably and is not usually in the conversation of antibody responses. This article brings the concept back to the forefront as a possible explanation for the myriad of effects observed with both SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccine responses."

Scientists weigh in
Researchers Dr. Claudia Nold-Petry and Prof. Marcel Nold from Monash University in Australia also spoke with MNT. They discussed the potential role of anti-idiotype antibodies in complications associated with both COVID-19 vaccines and the disease:

"Confirmation of the presented hypotheses by basic research (as per the suggestions in the article) would represent a welcome advance in the understanding of the adverse events of vaccines and COVID-19 itself — including of SARS-CoV-2 variants, some of which may induce more and more problematic anti-idiotype antibodies than others!"

Medical implications
Regarding the medical implications of this research, Dr. Nold-Petry and Prof. Nold told MNT:

"Vaccines and antibody-based therapies could be screened for induction of anti-idiotype antibodies in preclinical tests, and modifications could be made to minimize such indications, as required."

"Patients could be screened for anti-idiotype antibodies following vaccination or administration of antibody-based therapies, and an alternative vaccine could be selected if they were detected."

Dr. Murphy added that these findings could provide many benefits, particularly "in understanding how to increase effectiveness and duration of protective antibody responses as well as potentially allowing for means to determine if patients are at risk based on their anti-idiotype response or allow for therapeutic interventions to be developed."

"This article presents a hypothesis on a mechanism that could be at play," he noted. "The research now needs to be done to ascertain if indeed this is occurring. A recent publication demonstrating the existence of anti-ACE2 anti-idiotypic antibodies in SARS-CoV-2 patients would appear to support this can indeed be a major factor."

EU Warns Repeat Boosters Could Weaken Immune System
[Bloomberg] European Union regulators warned that frequent Covid-19 booster shots could adversely affect the immune system and may not be feasible.

Repeat booster doses every four months could eventually weaken the immune system and tire out people, according to the European Medicines Agency. Instead, countries should leave more time between booster programs and tie them to the onset of the cold season in each hemisphere, following the blueprint set out by influenza vaccination strategies, the agency said.

The advice comes as some countries consider the possibility of offering people second booster shots in a bid to provide further protection against surging omicron infections. Earlier this month Israel became the first nation to start administering a second booster, or fourth shot, to those over 60. The U.K. has said that boosters are providing good levels of protection and there is no need for a second booster shot at the moment, but will review data as it evolves.

Boosters "can be done once, or maybe twice, but it’s not something that we can think should be repeated constantly," Marco Cavaleri, the EMA head of biological health threats and vaccines strategy, said at a press briefing on Tuesday. "We need to think about how we can transition from the current pandemic setting to a more endemic setting."

The EU regulator also said at the briefing that oral and intravenous antivirals, such as Paxlovid and Remdesivir, maintain their efficacy against omicron. The agency said that April is the soonest it could approve a new vaccine targeting a specific variant, as the process takes about three to four months. Some of the world’s largest vaccine-makers have said they are looking at producing vaccines that could target new variants.

Professor Ehud Qimron: "Ministry of Health, it's time to admit failure"
[SWPRS] Professor Ehud Qimron, head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Tel Aviv University and one of the leading Israeli immunologists, has written an open letter sharply criticizing the Israeli — and indeed global — management of the coronavirus pandemic.

Original letter in Hebrew: N12 News (January 6, 2022); translated by Google/SPR. See also: Professor Qimron’s prediction from August 2020: "History will judge the hysteria" (INN).

Begin quoted part, I think

Ministry of Health, it’s time to admit failure
In the end, the truth will always be revealed, and the truth about the coronavirus policy is beginning to be revealed. When the destructive concepts collapse one by one, there is nothing left but to tell the experts who led the management of the pandemic — we told you so.

Two years late, you finally realize that a respiratory virus cannot be defeated and that any such attempt is doomed to fail. You do not admit it, because you have admitted almost no mistake in the last two years, but in retrospect it is clear that you have failed miserably in almost all of your actions, and even the media is already having a hard time covering your shame.

You refused to admit that the infection comes in waves that fade by themselves, despite years of observations and scientific knowledge. You insisted on attributing every decline of a wave solely to your actions, and so through false propaganda "you overcame the plague." And again you defeated it, and again and again and again.

You refused to admit that mass testing is ineffective, despite your own contingency plans explicitly stating so ("Pandemic Influenza Health System Preparedness Plan, 2007", p. 26).

You refused to admit that recovery is more protective than a vaccine, despite previous knowledge and observations showing that non-recovered vaccinated people are more likely to be infected than recovered people. You refused to admit that the vaccinated are contagious despite the observations. Based on this, you hoped to achieve herd immunity by vaccination — and you failed in that as well.

You insisted on ignoring the fact that the disease is dozens of times more dangerous for risk groups and older adults, than for young people who are not in risk groups, despite the knowledge that came from China as early as 2020.

You refused to adopt the "Barrington Declaration", signed by more than 60,000 scientists and medical professionals, or other common sense programs. You chose to ridicule, slander, distort and discredit them. Instead of the right programs and people, you have chosen professionals who lack relevant training for pandemic management (physicists as chief government advisers, veterinarians, security officers, media personnel, and so on).

You have not set up an effective system for reporting side effects from the vaccines and reports on side effects have even been deleted from your Facebook page. Doctors avoid linking side effects to the vaccine, lest you persecute them as you did to some of their colleagues. You have ignored many reports of changes in menstrual intensity and menstrual cycle times. You hid data that allows for objective and proper research (for example, you removed the data on passengers at Ben Gurion Airport). Instead, you chose to publish non-objective articles together with senior Pfizer executives on the effectiveness and safety of vaccines.

Irreversible damage to trust

Irreversible damage to trust

However, from the heights of your hubris, you have also ignored the fact that in the end the truth will be revealed. And it begins to be revealed. The truth is that you have brought the public’s trust in you to an unprecedented low, and you have eroded your status as a source of authority. The truth is that you have burned hundreds of billions of shekels to no avail — for publishing intimidation, for ineffective tests, for destructive lockdowns and for disrupting the routine of life in the last two years.

You have destroyed the education of our children and their future. You made children feel guilty, scared, smoke, drink, get addicted, drop out, and quarrel, as school principals around the country attest. You have harmed livelihoods, the economy, human rights, mental health and physical health.

You slandered colleagues who did not surrender to you, you turned the people against each other, divided society and polarized the discourse. You branded, without any scientific basis, people who chose not to get vaccinated as enemies of the public and as spreaders of disease. You promote, in an unprecedented way, a draconian policy of discrimination, denial of rights and selection of people, including children, for their medical choice. A selection that lacks any epidemiological justification.

When you compare the destructive policies you are pursuing with the sane policies of some other countries — you can clearly see that the destruction you have caused has only added victims beyond the vulnerable to the virus. The economy you ruined, the unemployed you caused, and the children whose education you destroyed — they are the surplus victims as a result of your own actions only.

There is currently no medical emergency, but you have been cultivating such a condition for two years now because of lust for power, budgets and control. The only emergency now is that you still set policies and hold huge budgets for propaganda and psychological engineering instead of directing them to strengthen the health care system.

This emergency must stop!

Covid: Quebec to impose health tax on unvaccinated Canadians
[BBC] The Canadian province of Quebec will charge a health tax to residents who are not vaccinated against Covid-19.

Quebec, which has seen the highest number of Covid-related deaths in Canada, is currently struggling with a surge in cases.

On Tuesday, the premier announced that it would be the first in the nation to financially penalise the unvaccinated. Only about 12.8% of Quebec residents are not vaccinated, but they make up nearly a third of all hospital cases.

According to federal data, just over 85% of Quebec residents had received at least one vaccine dose by 1 January. Premier Francois Legault said during a news conference that people who have not received their first dose of vaccine will have to pay a "contribution".

Ivermectin 'Works Throughout All Phases' Of COVID According To Leaked Military Documents
[ZERO] Update (1505ET): As more and more information pours out of the Project Veritas leaked military documents, there appears to be a damning section in support of Ivermectin as a Covid-19 treatment.

"Ivermectin (identified as curative in April 2020) works throughout all phases of illness because it both inhibits viral replication and modulates the immune response."

Tucker Carlson dares Jan. 6 committee to affirm Ray Epps wasn't working with any government agency
[Washington Examiner] Fox News host Tucker Carlson challenged the House committee investigating the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, to declare that Ray Epps was not working with any government agency.

He raised the question Tuesday in response to the select panel issuing a statement that said it interviewed Epps, an Arizona resident and a former president of the Arizona Oath Keepers militia group seen on video urging people to march to the U.S. Capitol in the hours leading up to the riot, and Epps claimed he was not an informant for the FBI or any other law enforcement agency.

"Would the committee be willing to broaden that statement and affirm in writing that Ray Epps wasn't working with any government agency, law enforcement or otherwise? That would be a very simple change to make. Let's see if they make it. Let's see if Republicans will force them to make it," Carlson said.

Epps had been on the FBI's Capitol Violence most wanted list before he was removed without explanation after nearly six months. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republican members on the Jan. 6 committee, tweeted that Epps was taken off the list "because apparently he broke no laws." He also said Epps "has cooperated and is nothing but a Jan 6 protest attendee, in his own words."

Barely A Week Into 2022--Is It SHTF Time Already?
[MeaningInHistory] Yesterday we were asking whether there were more signs of Dems anxiously looking for an exit strategy from the Covid Regime. Today, it’s starting to look like SHTF time already. The trajectory—the search for an exit strategy—has been apparent for a while, but the motive force behind that search appears to be getting more urgent.

For one thing, Fauci is starting to look distinctly radioactive. This follows on the release by Project Veritas of documentary proof that Fauci has been lying all along about US funding—with his personal involvement—in Gain of Function (GOF) research in Wuhan. There are multiple stories out today about this, and Rand Paul has been raking Fauci over the coals in the Senate. Because the material is somewhat dense, and to avoid repetition, I’m going to recommend the CTH digest of the details:

California to massively tax people who listened to the government and installed solar.
[TESLA dot COM] This month, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will consider adopting a proposal that impacts customers of PG&E, SCE or SDG&E who have installed solar or plan to do so in the future.

Bowing to pressure from the California utilities, the CPUC is proposing new net metering rules (NEM 3.0) that includes a “grid access” fee of $8/kW of installed solar per month – in addition to other fees – that could add between $50-$80/month to the electric bill of a home solar customer. If adopted, this would be the highest solar fee anywhere in the country, including states hostile to renewable energy. In addition, the proposal would reduce the value of bill credits for solar energy sent to the grid by about 80 percent.

Unbelievably, the California utilities and CPUC also proposed to change the rules for customers who have already signed contracts and purchased a solar system, which violates basic principles of fairness. Under the CPUC’s proposal, customers who installed solar under the NEM 1.0 and NEM 2.0 rules – which were guaranteed to be in place for 20 years when customers enrolled – would see their “grandfathering period” reduced to 15 years from the date they installed their system, after which they would go on NEM 3.0.

For customers currently considering installing solar, the NEM 3.0 rules would go into effect upon submission of an interconnection agreement after May 28, 2022.

Support distributed solar and storage in California by making your voice heard. Please consider contacting the Public Utilities Commission today and encourage them to reject the solar fee and changes to grandfathering rules.

The CPUC may vote on whether to adopt the NEM 3.0 proposal as soon as January 27, 2022, and they are taking feedback from the public until that time.

First, imposing fixed charges only on those customers who choose to install solar impinges on customers’ right to self-generate their own clean energy. It violates every tenant of regulatory fairness and is likely illegal under federal law. The fixed charges cannot be avoided by adding a battery and would need to be paid regardless of whether the solar customer exports energy to the electric grid. Every solar customer should be asking why they are discriminated against, but not those customers who have rarely used vacation homes, invest in energy efficiency, have small homes, or otherwise have pay lower utility bills. Why would the PUC not add fixed charges to all customers fairly and with documented justification, rather than only solar customers?

Second, the dramatic change from the current NEM policy will reduce customer adoption of clean energy in California at a time when more is needed to meet the state’s climate goals and to provide more energy resiliency in the face of unprecedented wildfires and grid outages.

Finally, reducing the length of the grandfathering period short-changes customers who made an investment in solar under rules that promised consistent policy over the life of their system. Changing the rules in the middle of the game will make it less likely for customers to trust that other CPUC Decisions won’t later be reversed.

IDF soldier moderately hurt in suspected West Bank ramming attack
[IsraelTimes] 19-year-old treated near Halamish settlement for wound to his legs, reportedly transported to Jerusalem hospital in same helicopter as suspected attacker

An Israeli soldier was moderately maimed Tuesday in what the military said was a suspected ramming attack near the West Bank settlement of Halamish, outside of Ramallah.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said paramedics treated the 19-year-old at the scene for an injury to his legs. He was transported by helicopter to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem.

A hospital spokesperson said the soldier, whose name has not been released for publication, was in moderate condition, but stable and awake.

The army said the driver "arrived at the scene in a vehicle and accelerated toward Israel Defense Forces soldiers who were protecting the road. The terrorist hit one of the soldiers who was injured in his leg and evacuated by military helicopter for medical treatment at a hospital."

The IDF said the driver had been captured and would be questioned.

Hadassah Medical Center said the alleged attacker had been brought to the hospital with extensive bruising and cognitive impairment. No condition was listed for him, but media reports described him as moderately injured from the force of the crash.
and a righteous beating
Paleostinian media identified him as Mohammad Nazmi Yasin, a resident of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah.

First responders indicated that the alleged attacker had been evacuated in the same helicopter as the soldier after the attack near Halamish, a settlement also known as Neve Tzuf.

The suspected attack came amid a recent rise in violence by Paleostinians against Israeli civilians and soldiers in the West Bank and Jerusalem, including a deadly shooting attack last month outside the illegal Homesh outpost, as well as an increase in violence by Israeli settlers against Paleostinians.

The IDF has deployed additional soldiers to the West Bank in an effort to prevent further violence.

A suspected human trafficker identified as Mnena Kwaghmande has arrested by Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Benue State Command.

The suspect, who was with six maiden of tender yearss between the ages of 16 and 20 years and all ready to travel to Burkina-Faso, was intercepted in the Gboko area of Benue State on January 5,

Commandant of the NSCDC in Benue, Philip Okoh, paraded the suspect and victims, noting that the girls were reportedly picked from the Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state.

Okoh explained that the suspect when interrogated claimed to have told parents of the girls that they would be helping her in her restaurant in Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
He said, "We are showing to the public what we have done so far in terms of securing Benue State and ensuring peace.

"Behind me, we have a seasoned trafficker who goes about luring unsuspecting parents through convincing them that they are going abroad for greener pastures.

"Investigation has revealed that they were taking them to Burkina Faso. We did this operation in conjunction with NAPTIP."

Okoh cautioned parents against releasing their children to people who promised greener pastures abroad, noting that it often leads to disappointment.

#1  ...As an aside, Victory also took a hit from the Luftwaffe which broke her keel. A marine engineer of my acquaintance from the UK told me that she was never quite the same after that.

Sadly, the UK never continually maintained and restored Victory the way we have with Constitution. Pretty much with the exception of her drydock periods, Constitution has been a working ship - Victory was held onto more as a relic than anything else, and she was essentially derelict at several points during her career, and on one occasion actually sank at dockside. The RN knows and understands her historic value, but HMG has always been a little...erratic...in the efforts to preserve her for future generations.

Italian police identify young men in NYE assault on women
Eve teasing, the s3x jihad.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Italian police said Tuesday they had identified over a dozen men and boys who sexually assaulted young women during New Year’s Eve festivities in Milan’s central square.

Nine women have so far come forward to say they were assaulted, and some robbed, by groups of young men while end-of-year partygoers filled the city’s Duomo plaza.

"The young men who sexually assaulted girls in Piazza Duomo in Milan on New Year’s Eve have been identified," said Milan police in a statement.

Searches were carried out early Tuesday in Milan and Turin against 18 men and boys, aged between 15 and 21, both Italian and foreign, police said.

Through surveillance images, witness testimony and social media tracking, police were able to piece together "three different episodes of violence" committed against nine young women that night, they said.

Among the victims were two 20-year-old German tourists, according to Italian news agency ANSA.

"We tried to push them back, my friend hit and slapped them but they were laughing and they continued to assault us. I had 15 hands on me," one of the victims told ANSA in a January 7 news story.

Among various videos published by local media, one shows a group of men surrounding two young women who are pressed against a police barricade.

They are seen trying to shove the men away before they extricate themselves from the crowd and run toward police in riot gear at the edge of the plaza.

The incident has led news headlines for days and has fed into concerns about violence against women in Italia, where newspapers report the deaths of one or two women almost every week, usually at the hands of their current or former partner.

Over 580 arrested by Turkish backed Syrian proxies in Afrin in 2021: monitor
Turkic man’s burden... and profitable pleasure.
[Rudaw] Over 580 people were arrested in the city of Afrin in northern Syria in 2021 mostly for political reasons, including cases where the victims were arrested for the "simple fact that they were Kurds", a Syrian monitor group said on Tuesday, adding that arrests were carried out by Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian proxies in the region.

The human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
monitoring organization Syrians for Truth and Justice (STJ) said that they had documented the arrest of 584 people in the Kurdish majority city of Afrin, including 46 women and 16 teenagers over the past year. They added that they have recorded the release of only 123 of those people, and the death of at least one.

"STJ thoroughly analyzed the cases, concluding that perpetrators carried out arrests mostly for political reasons, including cases where victims were arrested for the simple fact that they were Kurds," the STJ report read, stating that in other cases "perpetrators were motivated by plans for demographic-change, where they used detentions and the threat of detention to scare indigenous communities into leaving their homes."

Thousands of indigenous Kurds were forced to flee Afrin when Ottoman Turkish forces and their Syrian proxies launched Operation Olive Branch on January 20, 2018. By the time Ankara had seized control of the city from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) on March 24, tens of thousands of Kurds had fled, many of them to Kurdish-controlled areas in northeast Syria (Rojava).

The Kurdish population fell by more than 60 percent in only the first two years of the invasion, according to the Afrin-based Human Rights Organization. "According to the latest statistics that we received, the size of the indigenous population of Kurds in the Afrin region reached 34.8 percent in January, while they previously made up 97 percent of the population," reads a statement from the organization published in April 2020.

According to UN estimates, upwards of 150,000 Kurds have been displaced, most of them to Shahba camp in Tel Rifaat, north of Aleppo.

"The 584 detentions recorded in the report include only those detainees who were arrested and then relocated to detention centers supervised by security apparatuses like the Military Police. STJ identified that the groups making the arrests are chiefly armed opposition groups that maintain control over Afrin’s villages and towns," STJ said in the report, adding that they believe the actual number of detainees is likely greater.

Ottoman Turkish-backed groups have been widely accused of human rights violations against Afrin’s locals, including kidnap, looting and extortion.

Accusations in the area, including land theft, have increased since the invasion, dubbed Operation Olive Branch. Human rights groups and the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
have published reports detailing arbitrary arrests, detention and pillaging, among other violations.

In August 2018, Amnesia Amnesty International reported that "Afrin residents are enduring widespread human rights violations, mostly at the hands of Syrian gangs equipped and armed by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
In its annual report for 2019, Amnesty documented a "wide range of abuses" against Afrin’s civilians at the hands of Ottoman Turkish-backed groups, including the arbitrary detention of more than 50 locals.

CDC will distinguish 'with Covid'/'from Covid' soon
[PostMillennial] "Our death registry, of course, takes a few weeks to — takes a few weeks to collect. And of course, omicron has just been with us for a few weeks, but those data ['with' vs 'from' COVID] will be forthcoming."

Walenksy elaborated...

"In some hospitals that we've talked to, up to 40 percent of the patients who are coming in with COVID are coming in not because they're sick with COVID but because they're coming in with something else and have had COVID or the omicron variant detected," she said, in regards to the omicron variant.
and Fauci adds:
"And what we mean by that: If a child goes into the hospital, they automatically get tested for COVID and they get counted as a COVID-hospitalized individual, when, in fact, they may go in for a broken leg or appendicitis or something like that. So it's over counting the number of children who are, quote, hospitalized with COVID as opposed to because of COVID," Fauci said.

US Justice Department creating unit focused on domestic terrorism
[IsraelTimes] The Justice Department is establishing a specialized unit focused on domestic terrorism, the department’s top national security official tells politicians, as he describes an "elevated" threat from violent mostly peaceful murderous Moslems in the United States.

Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen, testifying just days after the nation observed the one-year anniversary of the violent mostly peaceful insurrection at the US Capitol, says the number of FBI
...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time...
investigations into suspected domestic violent mostly peaceful murderous Moslems has more than doubled since the spring of 2020.

"We have seen a growing threat from those who are motivated by racial animus, as well as those who ascribe to bad boy anti-government and anti-authority ideologies," Olsen says.

Jill Sanborn, the executive assistant director in charge of the FBI’s national security branch who testified alongside Olsen, says the greatest threat comes from lone murderous Moslems who radicalize online and look to carry out violence at so-called "soft targets."

Kabardino-Balkaria suspect to be charged for involvement in IS
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The suspect from Kabardino-Balkaria went to Syria, where he fought on the side of the Islamic State militants, investigators say.

According to the investigation, the suspect arrived in Syria in May 2017, where he voluntarily joined the ranks of the Islamic State. He is believed by investigators to have taken part in hostilities against Syrian government forces. The suspect has not yet returned to Russia, the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for Kabardino-Balkaria reported.

A criminal case was initiated against the native of the republic, born in 1984, under part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of Russia (participation in the activities of an organization that, in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, is recognized as terrorist), said in today's message on the agency's website.

The "Caucasian Knot" previously wrote that in December 2021, a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria was sentenced to 10 years in a strict regime colony in the case of recruiting a local resident into the ranks of Syrian militants. The convict did not admit his guilt.

Virginia-Based Voter Suppression Group Paid Thousands to Voting Rights ‘Champion' Marc Elias
[Washington Free Beacon] A political action committee that published deceptive campaign ads to suppress Republican votes for Virginia governor-elect Glenn Youngkin (R.) paid thousands of dollars to Marc Elias, a Democratic election lawyer whom liberals tout as a champion of election integrity and voting rights.

Accountability Virginia PAC paid $5,254 last year to Elias Law Group, according to Federal Election Commission records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. The PAC paid $12,578 to Perkins Coie, the firm where Elias worked until 2021. Axios reported in September that the Democrat-run PAC masqueraded as a conservative group to divert support from Youngkin.

Accountability Virginia came under fire for running social media ads in rural Virginia that misleadingly claimed conservatives were upset with Youngkin's support for the Second Amendment. Dominion Energy, a company that contributed to the PAC, sought a refund for a $200,000 contribution because of the group's deceptive tactics.

The PAC's payments to Elias's firms, which have not been previously reported, were for unspecified legal services. The payments were made from Sept. 13 to Dec. 16, according to Federal Election Commission records.

Elias's work for the PAC could undercut his vaunted status among Democrats as a defender of voting rights and election integrity. Elias has filed lawsuits for Democratic groups challenging state laws he claims restrict voters' access to the polls. He is also leading the legal battle to redraw congressional districts that Democrats say have been designed to disenfranchise minority voters. He appears frequently on MSNBC and CNN to accuse Republicans of voter suppression.

Gov HairGel to Propose Doubling California State Taxes
[BizPacReview] California Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled his uber progressive 2022-23 state budget plan on Monday that includes fully implementing universal healthcare in his state to cover not only low-income residents but illegal immigrants as well.

The Golden State is considering doubling taxes in an effort to fund universal healthcare for all residents in California. That would increase taxes by $12,250 per household, crushing state taxpayers even more in the name of progressive equity while covering the expenses of those who are not legally in the United States.
[Increase in Taxes is not via Individual income tax. It is via a Gross Receipt Tax for companies with 50 or more employees who would have to pay about 3% of their revenue to the State. This notwithstanding many companies have net income less than 3%.]

CSTO troops withdraw from Kazakhstan beginning January 13
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] From the fresh speech of Tokayev.

1. Events in Kazakhstan have been declared an attempted coup d'état, which failed. In the course of the coup attempt, the authorities almost completely lost control over Almaty, which could lead to the loss of control over Kazakhstan.

2. Since the situation is rapidly stabilizing, the withdrawal of the CSTO troops, which helped stabilize the situation, may begin on January 13th. The withdrawal of troops will take 10 days. The acute phase of CTO in Kazakhstan has been completed.

3. New Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov has been appointed. He was acting. Prime Minister of Kazakhstan since January 5, when the old government was dismissed.

4. Kazakhstan will strengthen the National Guard quantitatively and qualitatively in order to have more opportunities to counter threats to national security. Tokayev noted that during the events the State Guard and the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, as well as the special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, showed themselves well. Additional measures will be taken to strengthen the army of Kazakhstan and the border service.

5. Tokayev accused the KNB of Kazakhstan of not being able or unwilling to identify the threat that professionals were secretly preparing inside Kazakhstan. In a number of cities in the country, the leaders of the KNB actually handed over buildings, weapons and documents to the conspirators. The state security system of Kazakhstan will undergo a structural reorganization. The main culprits will go to court.

6. Tokayev directly accused Nazarbayev's entourage of forming a group of super-rich around Elbasy, even by international standards. Tokayev believes that they should "pay tribute to the people of Kazakhstan."

7. A number of banks and funds will be tested, and the money will go to the announced socio-economic reforms. It is recognized that financial and oligarchic groups have become the beneficiaries of Kazakhstan's economic growth.

8. Events in Kazakhstan, according to Tokayev, were the result of socio-economic problems and the failed activities of some state bodies. These bodies broke away from the reality and needs of citizens and caused an increase in property stratification.

9. Tokayev canceled the recycling fee in the country, which was also one of the economic demands of the protesters. A 5-year moratorium has been announced on raising the salaries of civil servants.

10. In addition, Tokayev directly accused the heads of state bodies that they do not know how, and sometimes they are simply afraid to communicate with the Kazakh people.

11. The opening of branches of leading technical universities of Russia in Kazakhstan was announced.

12. The column "against all" will be returned to the ballot papers.

13. Instructed to restore order on the border with China, where "a mess is going on." The discrepancies between the customs statistics of Kazakhstan and China amount to billions of dollars. Some of the cars are simply not inspected.

De facto we have.

The KNB and the oligarchs from Nazarbayev's entourage were indirectly accused of the coup. Nazarbayev was indirectly accused of conniving at his entourage, who plundered the country and profited from it, as long as property stratification grew and socio-economic problems worsened, which the conspirators took advantage of to carry out an attempted coup d'etat, which the KNB connived.

As a result, the coup failed, the guilty will be punished, the KNB will be purged and restructured, the oligarchs will be forced to pay "compensation", the CSTO troops will soon be withdrawn, and the country will face socio-economic reforms. A substantial part of the protesters' economic demands will be met. The question of the future of Nazarbayev has so far been left in limbo.

Ethiopian drone strike kills 17 on day of Biden-Abiy call
[Garowe] An Æthiopian dronezap has killed 17 civilians in the country’s Tigray region on the day that U.S. President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S., father of Hunter, close friend of an imaginary negro named Corn Pop. He blames Trump for losing Afghanistan....
during a call with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed concern about such attacks in the ongoing war, local authorities say.

A report by the zonal administration said women at a flour-grinding mill made up most of those killed in the Monday dronezap near Mai Tsebri, a source who saw the report told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about it to news hounds.

Such dronezaps have been reported almost daily in Tigray, a humanitarian worker in the town of Shire told the AP, with an attack over the weekend on a displaced person camp in Dedebit killing at least 57 people and wounding more than 130, many of them children. The aid worker shared photos of partially charred bodies and small corpses laid out on the ground.

A front man for Æthiopia’s government and military didn’t respond to questions about Monday’s dronezap.

Mr. Biden expressed concerns in Monday’s phone call with Æthiopia’s Prime Minister about detentions and civilian killings in the war against Tigray forces while commending Abiy for the release of several high-profile political prisoners.

The White House said Mr. Biden raised to Abiy the Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s that continue to cause civilian casualties and suffering in Africa’s second-most populous nation.

The statement added that the leaders "discussed ways to accelerate dialogue toward a negotiated cease-fire, the urgency of improving humanitarian access across Æthiopia, and the need to address the human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
concerns of all affected Æthiopians, including concerns about detentions of Æthiopians under the state of emergency."

Abiy on Twitter described the conversation with Mr. Biden as "candid" and both agreed "there is great value in strengthening our cooperation through constructive engagement founded on mutual respect."

The call was requested by Mr. Biden after Jeffrey Feltman, the outgoing U.S. special envoy to the Horn of Africa, visited Æthiopia last week for talks with big shots.

The more than year-long war has created a devastating humanitarian crisis. The conflict entered a new phase in late December when Tigray forces retreated into their region amid a new military offensive and Æthiopian forces said they would not advance further there.

Mr. Biden stressed to Abiy that the two sides must take advantage of the moment and called on the Æthiopian leader to improve humanitarian access, according to a senior administration official who briefed news hounds on the leaders’ call on the condition of anonymity. White House officials are concerned that if momentum is not maintained, the conflict — which has left thousands dead and hundreds of thousands facing famine — could further deteriorate.

Æthiopia’s government has sought to restrict reporting on the conflict and detained some journalists, including a video freelancer accredited to the AP, Amir Aman Kiyaro.

Iran reveals ‘untold story' of arming Palestinians in Gaza
[Jpost] Soleimani’s strategy "was able to multiply the power of the resistance against the Zionist regime" by arming them.

Iranian media, to mark the anniversary of the death of Qasem Soleimani, have provided unique new details about Iran’s support for Palestinian groups.

In a recent article from the Tasnim News branch located in Damascus, a report claims to provide new details on the “untold” story of how the Islamic Republic ran guns and technology to Palestinian groups. The report says that Soleimani, the Quds Force commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, worked for more than two decades to make Iran the “most relevant to different groups in Palestine" that were established.

Army will conduct a two-week 'guerilla war' training exercise in the woods of North Carolina to teach Special Forces how to overthrow an 'illegitimate government' just weeks after Biden's Justice Department announced its new 'domestic terrorism' unit
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]

  • Robin Sage places soldiers in a 'politically unstable' fictional country and uses 'unconventional guerrilla warfare' to defeat a 'numerically superior enemy'

  • Soldiers will face off against seasoned military members and specially trained civilians during the exercise, which serves as the Special Forces final exam

  • Several citizens, however, are concerned the exercise encourages soldiers to target civilians

  • News of the training exercise comes at a tense time in the US, just five days after the country celebrated the first anniversary of the Capitol riot

  • It also follows the DOJ's creation of a new 'domestic terrorism' unit as the nation faces what officials said is an 'elevated threat from domestic violent extremists'

5-year-old Killed, 3 Family Members Injured in Southern Philippine Bus Bombing
[BenarNews] A 5-year-old boy was killed and six people, including his two younger siblings, were maimed when a bomb went kaboom! aboard a bus on Tuesday in the southern Philippines, a region where armed holy warrior groups are active, military officials said.

The Mindanao Star Bus was traveling to Cotabato City when it was rocked by the earth-shattering kaboom near Aleosan town, injuring four children and three adults, said Lt. Col. John Baldomar, the front man of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, which has jurisdiction over the area.

"The loud explosion was heard coming from the back of the bus," Baldomar said, adding the boy later died in a hospital.

An Aleosan town police front man said the bomb had been placed "where there were a lot of people sitting," Agence La Belle France-Presse news agency reported.

Baldomar said those injured, including an infant and a 3-year-old, were being treated at regional hospitals.

The state-run Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported the children were siblings of the boy who was killed and were being treated for injuries along with their father.

"My boy died due to multiple shrapnel wounds in different parts of his body," Haron Solaiman, said in a radio interview, according to PNA.

The bus was traveling from the southern city of Davao, President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown, along the highway near Aleosan town where the blast occurred early Tuesday, Baldomar said. Following the blast, army and police ordnance Sherlocks combed the area for evidence.

POST-BLAST INVESTIGATION
"It’s hard to come up with suspects until such time that we are able to identify the components and the type of explosive that was used," Baldomar said. "The post-blast investigation is ongoing to determine the type of explosive that was used."

No one grabbed credit for the attack, but similar bombings in the past have been blamed on bully boyz linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, according to officials.

Local Army Col. Jo Gonzales, a military brigade commander, told BenarNews that he suspected that the blast could be the handiwork ofMoro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The MILF signed a peace deal with Manila and controls a Moslem autonomous area in the south.

"It’s under investigation. We are not discounting the involvement of the BIFF and Daulah Islamiyah groups," he said. The Daulah Islamiyah is the Philippine name for Islamic State (IS).

At least two BIFF factions have professed allegiance to the Islamic State.

In October 2010, 10 people were killed when a bomb destroyed a passenger bus in a nearby Matalam town, North Cotabato province.

More recently, BIFF bully boyz carried out two roadside kaboomings in 2021 that killed three and injured many others in the south. In 2019, the group carried out a series of kabooms, targeting a market and a restaurant that injured more than two dozen people.

Germany: 'Massive' cocaine bust uncovered in sugar shipment
[DW] Workers at a food production plant accidentally uncovered the illegal drug while opening up a shipment of sugar. Authorities in Saxony said it was the largest cocaine bust in the state's history.

Authorities recovered 700 kilograms (1,540 pounds) of cocaine in total, describing the bust as "massive."

The cocaine has an estimated street value of over €150 million ($170 million).

The drugs were uncovered by an unusual source — workers at a food production company located in a rural area between the cities of Dresden and Chemnitz.

The workers were unpacking a recent shipment of sugar when they came across the suspiciously wrapped cocaine bricks.
"We found 200, errr.... 5 kilos!"
They then quickly alerted the police, who were then joined by customs officers in Dresden.

Police are now working to uncover who was behind the shipment — and where it was headed.

It is unclear whether the cocaine was intended to be distributed in the state of Saxony, or whether it was a stopover.

Authorities made clear, however, that the company that made the initial discovery is not considered a suspect.

Drug busts are more common in Germany's port cities, where container shipments first land. In Hamburg, authorities uncovered 16 tons of cocaine alone the month of February last year.

Threefold increase of migrant rescues in English Channel last year: French immigration office
[Rudaw] The number of migrants colonists shipwrecked off the coast of Calais requiring rescue assistance from French authorities tripled in 2021 from the previous year’s figures, data shared by La Belle France’s immigration office on Monday showed, adding to UK Home Office figures released last week depicting a threefold increase from 2020 in the number of people reaching the English coast in small boats last year.

"The number of people shipwrecked off the coast of Calais and taken to safety was 1,002 in 2021," the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII) told AFP on Monday, as reported by Le Monde; an increase of 194% of people getting into serious trouble at sea in an attempt to reach the English coast compared to the 341 migrants colonists rescued in 2020.

According to figures provided by the British Home Office, compiled by PA Media last week, at least 28,395 people reached the English coast in small boats after illegally crossing the Channel in 2021; an increase of over three times the figure of crossings the year before, when around just 8,400 people made the perilous journey.

Two Oklahoma death row inmates seek death by FIRING SQUAD after multiple botched lethal injections by which saw prisoners die in agony
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News]
  • Donald Grant and Gilbert Postelle requested a firing squad as an alternative to lethal injection after several botched executions by the state

  • A trial is set to begin before Judge Friot on February 28, but Grant is scheduled to be put to death on January 27, while Postelle is set for execution on February 17

  • 'While it may be gruesome to look at, we all agree it will be quicker,' attorney Jim Stronski told Friot after a day-long hearing in Oklahoma City

  • Grant was convicted of killing two Del City hotel workers in 2001, while Postelle was sentenced to die for his role in a 2005 quadruple slaying

  • An emergency medicine specialist said that unlike lethal injection, there is an extremely low likelihood that a firing squad execution would be botched

  • The news follows recent lethal injections of death row inmates John Marion Grant, which was botched, and Bigler Stouffer

  • The drug mix-ups followed a botched execution in 2014 in which inmate Clayton Lockett struggled on a gurney before dying 43 minutes into his lethal injection

Nearly 100 charged with murder free to walk Chicago streets thanks to woke bail reform: Judge REFUSES to jail violent crime suspects despite pleas from cops, Mayor

"The DPO in charge of Jimeta Police division has briefed the state command that one Fawas Mohammed has reported a case of acid attack on him and three others."The command after receiving the complaint, immediately gave directive for investigation," Nguroje said

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
Mohammed, a chieftain of APC in the state, alleged that the attack had political undertone, while speaking to journalists.

Mohammed alleged that Abubakar Sarki, a Yola North party chieftain, criminal masterminded the attacks.

"After attacking us with acid in late December 2021; again, on Friday, January 6, 2022 at about 6:30pm, hoodlums invaded my house at Gimba Street, Jimeta in the Yola North LGA. The hoodlums beat me to comma and one of them openly warned me to stop granting interview in radio and criticising the government," he stated.

According to the APC chieftain, one of the victims was critically injured and receiving treatment at the specialist Hospital, Yola.

Sarki in a swift response said the state command of the State Security Service (SSS) had invited him on the matter. He denied the allegation and described it as "cheap blackmail."

"I was invited by DSS in the state over the matter where I categorically told them that I don’t know anything about the alleged attacks," Sarki noted.

Despite Collecting N5million Ransom, Kidnappers Kill Oil Worker In Kogi
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Kidnappers have killed Ojonimi Osayi, an official of Shell Petroleum Development Company, despite collecting N5million ransom from his family.

The Kogi-born oil and gas expert, who was said to have spent 23 years in the service of Shell, was on his way to the burial ceremony of his father in-law at Igala Mela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi when he was kidnapped last weekend.

A family member said N5million was delivered to his abductors but his corpse was picked from the bush on Tuesday.

"He came home in a jalopy car to disguise himself from kidnappers. Yet, he ran into them at Itobe-Anyigba Road.

"We picked his corpse this early morning from the bush," Daily Trust quoted a family source as saying.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, William Aya, said the command was yet to get the details of the incident.

About this time last year, a Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Fifteen of the nineteen WTC hijackers were Saudis, and most major jihadi commanders were Saudis, to include Osama bin Laden. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman quietly folded that tent in 2016, doing terrible things to the guys running it, and has since been dragging the kingdom into the current century...
-based oil magnate, Ogacheko Atanu, who was on holiday at Idah, was rubbed out by hoodlums.

Cardona Requested School Board Letter That Called Parents ‘Domestic Terrorists'
[Washington Free Beacon] Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona asked the National School Boards Association to draft a controversial letter that referred to the parents of schoolchildren as potential domestic terrorists, emails show.

According to emails obtained by the group Parents Defending Education, association official Kristi Swett wrote to a colleague that the group's executive director Chip Slaven said "he was writing a letter to provide information to the White House, from a request by Secretary Cordona [sic]."

The emails provide the first indication that Cardona had a hand in creating the letter, which provided cover for the Justice Department to form a federal task force to investigate threats of violence against school board members. Fox News first reported the details of the emails.

"The allegation that Secretary Cardona requested the NSBA's involvement is jaw-dropping, and should be investigated immediately. American parents deserve to know whether the head of the U.S. Department of Education sought to silence their voices—and if so, he must be held accountable," said Parents Defending Education president Nicole Neily.

Slaven and National School Boards Association president Viola Garcia called on President Joe Biden in the Sept. 29 letter to deploy the FBI and use the Patriot Act to investigate threats made against school board members as acts of "domestic terrorism." Attorney General Merrick Garland formed a federal task force to investigate threats against school boards on Oct. 4.

Parent groups and Republicans blasted Garland over the decision, saying they were concerned that the task force would have a chilling effect on parents' dissent against local school board policies. Many parents across the country have voiced concern over school districts' teaching of left-wing ideologies, such as critical race theory.

The Washington Free Beacon previously reported that other emails from National School Boards Association members show that officials were in contact with the White House and Department of Education prior to sending the letter. Garcia wrote in an email on Oct. 2 that association officials had been engaged with the administration for "several weeks" prior to sending the letter to Biden.

It is unclear why Cardona requested the letter from the National School Boards Association rather than communicate concerns to the White House himself.

Cardona's discussions with the association also raise questions about his selection of Garcia, the association official, to serve on the National Assessment Governing Board, which oversees testing used across the country. The Free Beacon reported that Cardona selected Garcia to serve on the board on Oct. 1.

No, it isn't. Biden needed an excuse to set up a DoJ Domestic Terror Squad so he had Cardona tell the school boards to give him an excuse. I think that's perfectly clear.

The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) last week claimed that dozens had been killed in a dronezap on a camp for civilians displaced by the war in northern Æthiopia, in an attack that prompted aid agencies to suspend operations in the region.

Saturday’s raid came only hours after the Æthiopian government had issued a call for "national reconciliation", and sparked renewed appeals from an alarmed international community for an end to the conflict.

"The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by reports that more than 50 civilians have been killed and injured in an airstrike in northern Æthiopia at midnight on 7 January," Stephane Dujarric, front man for the UN Secretary-General, said in a statement.

"The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the impact the conflict continues to have on civilians in Æthiopia. He expresses his deepest condolences to the victims and their families."

AFP was not able to independently verify the various claims because access to the region is restricted and it remains under a communications blackout. Requests for comment from Æthiopian government officials went unanswered.

Around 300-400 Russian mercenaries operate in Mali: French official
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] From 300 to 400 Russian mercenaries are operating in central Mali, a senior French armed forces ministry official said, challenging an assertion by the West African country’s junta that only Russian military trainers are deployed there.

Other West African nations have closed their borders with Mali, severed diplomatic ties and imposed economic sanctions in response to its delay in holding elections following a 2020 military coup, the 15-state regional bloc said on Sunday.

The moves were also a response to the arrival of private military contractors from the Russian Wagner Group, whose members are mostly ex-service personnel.

"I would say there are around 300-400 members of Wagner and there are also Russian trainers, who provide equipment," the French official told news hounds at a briefing late on Monday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Russian mercenaries had deployed with Malian forces to the center of the country.

Mali’s junta, which has proposed a five-year transition rather than stepping down in February as initially planned, has said the new forces are military instructors who came with equipment they bought from Russia.

and in December joined 15 other countries, mostly European states operating in Mali, in condemning the possible arrival of mercenaries.

Gay Paree has said any such move would be incompatible with the French presence in Mali.

"The fact that Wagner is in a different part of Mali limits the risk of interaction which would be very difficult (for us) to accept," the French official said. "They (the junta) made the choice to turn their backs on the Europeans, the Americans and Africans and that brings consequences."

He said consultations were under way between La Belle France and its European partners, who have provided special forces in Mali, on how to respond. Decisions are likely at European Union level at the end of January, he said.

Russia-led troops to begin leaving Kazakhstan in two days: President
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said Tuesday that a contingent of Russia-led forces would begin leaving the troubled Central Asian country in two days, with the pullout to take no more than 10 days.

"The main mission of the CSTO peacekeeping forces has been successfully completed," Tokayev said, referring to troops of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

"In two days a phased withdrawal of the CSTO united peacekeeping contingent will begin. The withdrawal process of the contingent will take no more than 10 days," he said, addressing the government and parliament in a videoconference call broadcast live.

The CSTO mission of more than 2,000 troops was despatched at the peak of the crisis last week, after armed festivities between government opponents and security forces and a looting spree rendered parts of the largest city Almaty almost unrecognisable.

Tokayev also appeared to have further bolstered his position, backing acting prime minister Alikhan Smailov to take on the job permanently -- a nomination that won the unanimous support of politicians Tuesday.

Kazakhstan has framed last week’s unrest that grew out of a peaceful protest against an energy price hike in the west of the country and left dozens dead as a coup attempt assisted by foreign terrorists, but the crisis has also laid bare infighting at the very top of the government.

Tokayev’s mentor, founding president Nursultan Nazarbayev
...served as the President of Kazakhstan since the Fall of the Soviet Union and the nation's independence in 1991. Contrary to commonly held belief, there is a difference between Kazakhs and Cossacks: Kazakhs have mustaches. Cossacks wear those great big hats. Or maybe it's the other way around...
, has yet to appear publicly since the crisis began, despite Nazarbayev’s aide claiming that the 81-year-old strongman was in the capital Nur-Sultan and in dialogue with Tokayev.

Former national security committee chief Karim Masimov -- a key Nazarbayev ally viewed by many as perpetuating the retired president’s influence over government -- was arrested on Saturday.

Cross-border Syria aid gets 6-month extension without new UN vote
[Rudaw] Cross-border humanitarian aid to northwest Syria -- not green-lit by Damascus -- remains "essential," the UN said Monday, as the measure was de facto extended for six months without a new Security Council vote.

The council had previously renewed the authorization allowing aid into rebel-held areas in the country's northwest "for a period of six months... until 10 January 2022," through the crossing at Bab al-Hawa on the Syrian border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
The text provided for "an extension of an additional six months, that is, until 10 July 2022," subject to a report by the UN Secretary-General.

For the West, the renewal to July had been interpreted as automatic, while Russia had raised the possibility of requesting a new Security Council vote, though it has not taken that step.

In his December report, UN chief António Guterres
...Portuguese politician and diplomat, ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Previously, he was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees between 2005 and 2015. He was the Prime Minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and was the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002. He served as President of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005. In both a 2012 and 2014 poll, the Portuguese public ranked him as the best Prime Minister of the previous 30 years...
had stressed the impossibility of replacing at this stage the cross-border mechanism for one that crossed front lines from Damascus.

Moscow favors this method as recognition of the Syrian government's illusory sovereignty over the whole country.

Aid through the Bab al-Hawa crossing primarily serves the roughly three million people living in the Idlib region, which remains outside Damascus' control.

"The cross-border delivery of aid is essential," UN front man Stephane Dujarric said during his daily briefing.

"We need aid to be delivered through cross-border and through cross-line. Those are essential elements for us to meet the humanitarian needs of all Syrians."

Asked about the lack of a new Security Council vote, he said "we would welcome any decision that would allow us to continue with this vital cross-border aid."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Senior IDF officer pens scathing report against the Israeli military
[Jpost] This is not the first time that Col. Alon Madanes has written a scathing report of the IDF.

A rare report has been released that is highly critical of the IDF, detailing corruption in the military and defense establishment as well as issues with its organizational culture.

The report, titled “Red with shame: On the problem of corruption and values in the IDF,” was written by Col. Alon Madanes and given to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi.

According to the Israel Defense news site, the detailed report was divided into three volumes and “deals with suspicions of corruption in the IDF and in the Israeli defense system and industries, operational failures and also with issues related to moral values and a pessimistic organizational culture, including commanders’ fears of expressing independent positions.”

Madanes returned from Washington this past summer when he finished his term as IDF Ground Forces attaché.

The IDF denied that Kohavi had received the report detailing corruption in the military, saying Madanes wrote “five volumes of professional and unclassified documents” and that the “content deals with the US Army and does not express any criticism against the IDF.”

That document has been distributed throughout the military to Ground Force Command, the Ground Forces attaché office in Washington, the deputy chief of staff and Kohavi.

Madanes “recently met with the chief of staff for a personal meeting,” the IDF said, adding, “We will not elaborate on closed conversations between the chief of staff and his subordinates.”

Israel Defense said the report was written for top brass in a “restricted and censored” way and that Kohavi did not keep the report in his office.

The report comes shortly after the Israel Democracy Institute’s annual survey found public confidence in the IDF has decreased over the past year, with 78% of Jewish Israelis saying they had “very much or quite a lot” of trust in the military in 2021. Public trust in the IDF was 81% in 2020 and 90% in 2019, the report said.

According to the think tank, while the military remains the most trusted institution in the country among Jewish Israelis, the latest survey indicated the lowest level of confidence in the IDF since 2008.

This is not the first time Madanes has written a scathing report about the IDF.

In 2018, as he finished his term as Central Command operations officer, Madanes criticized top brass, saying military procedures had cost too many Israeli lives and that lack of discipline led to the deaths of soldiers.

Calling his last position “the most frustrating and ungrateful position I’ve experienced in my military service,” Madanes said while there are security challenges facing Central Command in the West Bank, the number of soldiers deployed to the area has decreased to a point where the IDF is unable to achieve its goals.

“The assessment of the situation in the command has hardly changed in the last two years,” he wrote. “The territory remains the same territory and the enemy is the same enemy, [but] the number of troops in Central Command is insufficient to meet its missions. In my opinion, too many Israelis have been killed and wounded in the past two years.”

Madanes also said erosion of ethical conduct had taken place, and many soldiers and commanders in the field were “unprofessional” and lacked basic legal knowledge.

“I feel a significant erosion of our ethical conduct as a system and a great lack of discipline,” he wrote.

Madanes wrote the report after he was appointed to be IDF attaché at the Israeli Embassy in Washington. In the opening paragraph he said it was written “out of great concern and with the understanding that we have no other country or military.”

Afghanistan
Taliban release prominent Afghan academic Faizullah Jalal
[DW] Family members of the well-known professor Faizullah Jalal announced news of his release on social media. He had been arrested by the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
for "trying to instigate people."

A well-known Afghan professor who had been arrested by the Taliban over the weekend has been sprung.

Professor Faizullah Jalal was detained by the Islamist group on Saturday for allegedly making inflammatory statements on Twitter.

News of his release was made known by his daughter Hasina Jalal, who took to Twitter to confirm he had indeed been freed.

"After more than four days of detention on baseless charges," she wrote. "I confirm that Professor Jalal is now finally released!"

WHY WAS JALAL ARRESTED?
On Saturday, the academic's wife, Massouda Jalal, posted on Facebook that the Death Eater group had taken the professor from his home and that he was "transferred to an unknown place."

The Taliban's front man, Zabihullah Mujahid, said on Saturday that Jalal had made statements on Twitter that "were provoking people against the government and playing with people's dignity.''

Jalal's family said that the account cited by the Taliban was not the professor and was a fake account.

Hasina Jalal said she had reported the matter to Twitter on January 5, adding that her father had never been active on the platform.

AN OUTSPOKEN CRITIC
Shortly after news of Jalal's arrest circulated, there was an outpouring of support from various quarters. There was also condemnation with calls for the professor's immediate release.

Jalal has been an open critic of Afghanistan's leadership for years and has expressed his feelings on former Presidents Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...Former president of Aghanistan, part of the problem not part of the solution...
and Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, ex-president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. When Biden abandoned the country left with a helicopter, four cars, and part of the national treasury...
In November, Jalal clashed with Taliban front man Mohammad Naeem during a television debate.

In addition to being heavily critical of the Taliban's policies, he referred to Naeem as a "calf."

The professor was widely praised by Taliban critics for his courage in expressing his views. At the time, many social media users changed their profile pictures to that of Jalal.
