#1 Bearing in mind that polls are essentially a form of wanking at this point, if Fred Thompson were to come out and announce he'd probably be second in the race after McCain, or third after McCain and Giuliani at worst. The more I look, the better Fred T. gets. He might be the right guy, if he can get organized.

#2 Personally, I don't have anything against Fred Thompson. I don't know him. I'll be interested to hear his views on issues.

I would say, though, that he WOULD be a very good choice if the goal is to COMPLETELY alienate Europe-which would arguably be a good thing. They would have a field day with another former actor becoming President of the USA. And Russia? They certainly wouldn't regard us any more seriously or respectfully.
