I do think the Iranians' plan is more likely to work.

The US has plans and the capability but I don't see the political will to inflict any serious damage on Iran.

An conflict with Iran couldn't be framed as a therapeutic intervention and thus would not be deemed legitimate by the Western political class.

There will be some hand wringing but there won't be a serious response, especially if Iranian civilians were among the likely victims. See Afghanistan.

#4 An Iranian action would be a political gift to Obummer and he would seize it in a minute. Before November 6. Afterwards, it might take a day or two till the polling came in.

#5 One of the pragmatic reasons for Iran to dev NucWeaps is to avoid the casualties of the 1980's Iran-Iraq War, includ as per both the SCUD-centric "War of the Cities", as well the deadly at-sea confrontations between the IRGC + the US-NATO Navies.

IMO Iran is NOT ready yet to even attempt to carry out its "grand strategery" of restricting the US CVNS + Gator Boyz/Amphibs to the Sea of Oman + beyond - at this point in time, I see it as more willing to wage a LIMITED LAND WAR to mil defend its ally Syria or its interests in Central Asia + AFPAK. AS BEFORE, IRAN WILL PREFER TO REMAIN AMAP ALAP ON THE MEDIA, DIPLOMATIC, + MILPOL STRATEGIC DEFENSIVE DESPITE ANY RHETORIC TO THE CONTRARY, + AVOID ANY MAJOR CONFLICT WID THE US.
