#2 The headline's statement isn't exactly true.
The German electorate moved to the right, parliament moved to the left.

The parties who command a majority in parliament (Social Democrats, Greens & Communists) lost voters and their combined share of the vote decreased compared to '09.

An unprecedented 15% (9% Conservative/Liberal) of the voters isn't represented in parliament at all due to the 5% threshold. Germany's electoral law stipulates a mode of representation that is supposed to be proportional in principle. It isn't 'first past the post.'

It's like a milder version of the absurd result of the 2002 election in Turkey.

As for breaking those "no whatever" campaign promises, ask Julia Gillard in Australia how that plays out over time.
