#1 Criminal incompetence.
Educational malpractice.
Shame on Bill Gates and the other idiots who foisted this madness on us.

We are ruled by morons.

#2 We're ruled by smart-ish people who understand morons are easier to control.

#3 While most of my countrymen feel rather proud, I am really bewildered when an Indian kid wins the Spelling Bee or some such thingy. It's pathetic.

#4 Actually there's method to the Soelling Bee madness, and it makes more sense than all the stupid educational fads that American "educationists" have imposed on public schoolchildren for generations, with ruinous results.

It's called repetition. You cannot master any sort of abstract reasoning, be it a syntax or grammar, arithmetic or higher math, historical knowledge or understanding of anatomy and physiology -- no abstract subject can be mastered without repetition, recitation, and memorization.

Russian: Повторение - мать учения. (Povtoreniye - mat' ucheniya.)

#5 In math, CC apparently teaches children inefficient algorithms in order to make them actually understand the nature of decimal numbers.

It's a laudable goal.

But in practice it boils down to substituting rote memorization of efficient algorithms with rote memorization of inefficient algorithms.

#6 True, repetition is the mother of learning. Rote learning of simpler concepts in early years is essential to grasp advanced lessons later that a teacher can build on.

#7 It's OK, the colleges can just dumb down too.

#8 Well, that could be a problem when you get to icky stuff like structural steel design calculations.

"I feelz this building will keep standing."

#10 I just want a sign on every bridge that says "Caution: This bridge was designed by someone using feelings instead of math."

#11 Now, that doesn't sound good. How about "This bridge is untainted by white supremacy and patriarchal mythology"?

#14 Major universities are already passing out "legacy" students and SJW's who can't count up to twenty unless they are wearing open toe sandals.

#15 Was your free-range chicken happy before it was killed?

Was the bridge you're driving on designed by an Empathetic Engineer?

As of Dec. 2018, the Obama-appointed National Science Foundation (NSF) Director had spent over $62m in his four year tenure so far on studies of "intersectionality and STEM."

A particularly choice study: "Forming the Empathetic Engineer."

Many more here.

#17 LOL - my old bridge construction administration crew included my heir apparent (male/hispanic), 2 other supervisors (2 white), 3 assistants (2 Filipino/White males) and a female (hispanic). We were considered the crew people were afraid to apply to: 1) work/expectations too hard, 2) work/expectations too hard.

Nothing about "Frank's a racist/sexist/patriarchal asshole"...although I can be an asshole when it suits my purpose

#19 #17 - all of the above (except two of the Assistants - who have their Engineer-In-Training Cert) are CA Registered Professional Engineers. Common Core ain't gonna cut it

#20 In October, Seattle public schools unveiled a “framework” to inject “math ethnic studies” into all K-12 math classes, teaching “how math has been and continues to be used to oppress and marginalize people and communities of color.”

Students will be asked to “identify the inherent inequities of the standardized testing system used to oppress and marginalize people and communities of color” and “explain how math dictates economic oppression.”

A rather pathetic article I saw recently was about how horrible "RTFM" -- "Read The Fine Manual" -- is, and how we should stop saying it in favor of mentoring and sharing knowledge.

*sigh*

RTFM is mentoring and sharing knowledge.
