#13 The size of the force tells you a lot about what is coming. Probing the ADIZ (Air Defense Interdiction Zone or whatever is now used) will not get a good systems signature when it is obvious it is only a probe, OPSEC to keep mainforce capabilities offline is normal. But if you put a bunch of sorties in the air, many of some size, then send a capable force that could have tactical WMD, you have to up the capabilities, warming up mainforce elements and offering the systems signatures for target mapping. Even if the systems are mobile, they are now defined and other assets that have 24/7 overwatch from the very high ground can now map wherever you send them. This seems to be much more serious as the credibility of the Biden Doctrine is now risible.

#16 The problem with China going fully kinetic is that what the CCP wants is not the piece of dirt we call Taiwan, but the crown jewels of the Taiwanese economy, intact. For example, Taiwan Semi has the largest chip foundry in the known universe, and whoever controls it can strangle a lot of nations -- like us-- who depend on Taiwan Semi's chips. So if the CCP conquers Taiwan but destroys Taiwan Semi in the process, or scatters Taiwan Semi's hyper-skilled workers, the CCP gets bragging rights but misses the main objective. The CCP strategy has to be to coerce Taiwan into surrender by means short of all-out war. If I were Taiwan, I'd have every factory ready to blow, and make sure the CCP knows it.

#18 Israel spends more money on defense than Taiwan both in % and absolute terms, and all it's worried about is a bunch of Arabs. The Taiwanese haven't been serious about defense for decades, ever since their defense budget crashed even as its Chinese counterpart skyrocketed. Check out this chart, which is plotted in 1992 constant dollars (i.e. adjusted for inflation):

They're obviously well-prepared - to fight it out to the last dead American.

It's also a good range test.
If the Chinese can't passively see the Taiwan 19 bombers from their AWACS then the RAM is smooth.
