#1 Yes, American corporations have bought up most of Ukraine's agricultural land, and these are really good, fertile soils.

It's only fair. The Chinese are buying our farms.

#2 No. They own less of a share of US farmland than the amount of code Bill Gates has written for Windows since 1998.

Grow up.

#3 How much farmland does China own in the US?

#5 ^ Same people who don't want to hear those last two links screech about COVID misinformation.

#6 Doubtful. What other currency would you trust that is global? The Yuan is the most manipulated currency in the world. Most investors wouldn't touch it with a ten meter cattle prod. Petro Dollar? You trust the arabs? The Euro? With the dependence on imported energy and a demographic collapse in process that isn't a long term choice.

Sorry, the dollar is the only really dependable and global currency for world trade. While it may weaken, it will stay the top dog for a long time.

#7 Traders gonna trade. The ones who believe China owns most US farmland and Bill Gates still writes Windows code gonna get skinned back.

#8 People worried about Chinese farmland purchases, well, I was worried one of my tires was 32 rather than 33 pounds this morning. It was a bigger problem and it turned out OK.

#9 Yes, M, I understand that Bill Gates was never, ever, much of a programmer. But he set the tone. He owned the corporation that produced that bug-ridden bloatware that he calls Windows. You wanna keep paying him for it for as long as you own a computer? Go right ahead. Did you ever own a car whose manufacturer remotely disabled it to force you to upgrade to the latest model? I still advocate Linux.

As for the Chinese, however much farmland they own in America, however much of anything they own in this country, including our politicians, one acre, one dollar's worth, is too much.

#10 Rationalize to your hearts extent about the software, Abu.

As for foreign ownership of our land or capital, it's not going away.

#11 Oh, and I am told that Gates is no longer the majority shareholder in Microsoft. The fact remains that he is the one who started that monstrosity in motion and he continues to reap profits from it. He is the symbol, if you will, of all that is wrong with corporate America today.

I say these things because for many, many years I worked with all kinds of different computers and operating systems. Windows was always by far and away the most problematic.

#12 Windows since NT (1993) has nothing to do with what you are screeching about. Dave Cutler came up with the only alternative to UNIX. It's 75% of the non phone market.

Not an accident.

#13 Android and IoS are UNIX / Linux based but heavily modified to suit their platforms. Nobody seems to want Chromebooks and MacOS is ~11% of the market.

But the market doesn't know sh*t if it doesn't agree with your hallucinations.

#14 Yes, Linux owns the web server space. Important for sure but those machines are basically refrigerators of data. Not productivity machines.

#15 I was doing interesting things on NT and Windows 2000 boxes for years before Linux became viable. You had problems? Isn't that how us IT people made our livings?

#16 The Gates = Windows = Gates thing comes down to this: IBM was given the chance to buy DOS. They decided to license it instead. Other makers could lisence it too. Boom, desktop computer revolution in America. IBM decided to team with Microsoft on OS/2, Bill screwed them. Boom, IBM is number 5 in cloud services today.

#17 I still like a CP/M emulator on Morrow Designs Micronix 8 bit UNIX that ran in 256k of memory. Beautifully elegant at the time, not relevant today.

#18 Vax.
The OTHER vax, from Digital Equipment.

Cash-strapped Americans being squeezed by higher prices are tapping into their 401(k) accounts for financial emergencies - like medical bills or to avoid foreclosure: 140,000 people enrolled in one investment account withdrew money in 2022
