A Mexico City man who was caught re-entering the U.S. after being deported twice before has been sentenced to nearly 8 years in federal prison.
The U.S. attorney's office in Phoenix announced on Friday that 34-year-old Arturo Ramirez Garcia received a 70-month term after pleading guilty to attempted re-entry after deportation.
He also was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge James Cacheris to two additional years because he was on supervised release from an earlier re-entry after a deportation conviction where he served two years in prison.
Ramirez was caught on June 2, 2009, after jumping the border fence into Nogales, Ariz.
He had been deported just weeks before after completing the prison term. He also had previous convictions for attempted burglary, drugs, and re-entry after deportation. Reentry after deportation has long been the 'serious' immigration offense. Deportation is not just being kicked across the border, but an official bar to reentry.

Kane was also arrested on a charge of felonious assault in Sept. 2004 after allegedly shooting a juvenile in the leg with an unspecified weapon, according to Clark County court documents. FOUR female troops have been sent home from the Middle East after getting pregnant.
All female soldiers are pregnancy tested before they leave Australia and fraternisation is banned on operations, but that didn't stop the four from finding a way to conceive.
The Australian Defence Force said all troops on overseas duty were counselled about safe sex and contraception before they left Australia and they would be doubly reminded of those principles in future.
Australian troops are much better behaved than their British counterparts - last year more than 100 British female soldiers were sent home for being unable to say no to a man in uniform.
Defence did not say if any of the pregnancies had actually occurred on operations.
"It is, however, possible that they could fall pregnant in the period immediately prior to departure or while on mid-deployment leave and, if this is the case, they will be returned to Australia," a Defence spokesman said.

Germany's parliament has approved the country's contribution to a $1-trillion aid package to protect debt-ridden European countries and stabilize the euro currency. German lawmakers in the lower house of parliament, the Bundestag, voted 319 to 73 for the bailout package. The measure passed, but with 195 abstentions. The upper house also lent its approval.
That gives the go ahead for Germany to contribute up to nearly $200 billion to a package of loan guarantees to stave off default by some of Europe's weaker and more debt-ridden economies, and thereby hopefully stabilize the euro.
German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaueble told lawmakers it is in Germany's national interest.
Analysts warn that bailout packages alone will not be enough to stabilize the euro. They say tougher measures to regulate public spending in individual countries are needed.
European finance ministers gathered in Brussels Friday to discuss such measures including new, tougher rules for public finances and government action to cut debt.

NEW DELHI - An Air India plane with around 160 passengers on board overshot a runway on landing in southern Indian city of Mangalore on Saturday and burst into flames, local television reported. We fear there are casualties,' an airport official told the NDTV news channel.
Television footage showed the plane, which was arriving from Dubai, apparently lying on its belly, with smoke billowing from the fuselage as rescue workers sought to douse the fire. Around ten people have been rescued and deaths are feared. Rescue operation hampered by the thick smoke. The plane is on fire and smoke was seen coming out of the airport.
The flight reportedly has 156 passengers, 6 crew members.
According to Airport official Peter Abraham, rescue work is on and high casualty rate is feared and further details awaited regarding the incident which occurred at around 6 30 am.

The time will be in January 2011, John, but you can bet Bambi would veto it, and lie about why (the 'why' being, as you said, the Dems want more voters for themselves).
Even when the law was passed, I didn't like it. I'm of the opinion that if you're really interested in voting, you can get off you ass and go register. It wasn't that hard. Registration station were set up at supermarkets, the library, etc., near to election time when most people might have it on their radar.
My mom was a registrar for a while; people could come to our house (with an appointment), including on weekends, to register. If someone was disabled and it was hard for them to get there, she'd go to them. It just wasn't that hard to register to vote before the Motor-Voter law was passed (unless of course you were an illegal alien, or dead, and a therefore a shoo-in to vote Dem).

Not only should they have to show proof of citizenship - but they should also be *required* to re-register every 4 years - in person - with positive proof of Identity and citizenship. For the disabled people can make house calls.

I agree with what I read. Sounds like a good move. Thomas Jefferson dropped? Not a good move. Why not teach who he was, what he stood for, and the influence he had on the development of our country? I thought that his take on separation of church and state was that there should be no state-adopted church such as the Church of England.
Fox News legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano said ICE is not obligated to process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona authorities.
"ICE has the legal discretion to accept or not to accept persons delivered to it by non-federal personnel," Napolitano said. "It also has the discretion to deport or not to deport persons delivered to it by any government agents, even its own." Your tax dollars in action..... Guess the Arizona police will just have to throw the detainees over the border fence ...

Look at the bright side. Arizona Law Enforcement can probably bus the buggers home at half the cost of the federal government and ICE. Yet another federal agency no longer needed.

They will still be in violation of Arizona law as well as US law. Arizona probably cannot deport them, but it can provide them with an all expenses paid, 60 day stay at the Joe Arpaio State Park in Douglas. Release them at the Mex border gate.
This is a dereliction of duty. Hope the boys at ICE are keeping papers on who told them to do, or rather not to do, what. The little phrase is 'obstruction of justice' and as the AGs have shown, you can be maneuvered in a grand jury to impeach yourself qualifying for time in jail. Imagine in the 60s and 70s, federal marshals publicly refusing to carry out civil rights law.

This really makes me wonder how much longer we can hold together as a country. The battling ideals are like water and oil and aren't mixing.
There is a war going on between the Feds and the States. The Feds, on the one hand, are over-reaching with regards to the centralization of power. States' rights are being completely ignored. The States are being saddled with mandates that are going to break their backs and they realize that. The States are being hamstrung with on-the-ground problems such as illegals and attendant crime and costs. They see the down-the-road problems with health care costs. The States are flexing their muscles and the current regime does not like it.

Again, we should bus them to San Fran, LA, NYC, DC, and Seattle. There we drop them off at the Federal buildings. If they dont want to deal with them, the fed in those states can let them go. No big deal.

Much as I'd like to stick it to LA, it's too close to Arizona - they probably would come back.
And please don't send them to D.C. - as much as those idiots deserve it, the illegals would likely cross over into Virginia and we have too many illegals already.
San Francisco, Seattle, and NYC are good, though. ;-p

Saying Napolitano is a Top Official is a bit misleading since he doesn't work for the government. Just because ICE can does not mean they would refuse to process. It might be politically damaging not to.

Since the Federal government has no intention of guarding the border or enforcing immigration law, maybe Arizona will build their own border barrier and bill the Feds.
