[An Nahar] The Libya trial of ex-intelligence chief Bouzid Dorda, the first of Muammar Qadaffy ...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later... 's brass hats to face justice, was postponed again on Tuesday after the defense team asked for more time to review his case.
"The trial was postponed until August 28 to allow the defense to study the case," defense lawyer Saleh al-Faituri said.
The former foreign intelligence chief, whose trial began on June 5, is accused of ordering security forces to use live ammunition against demonstrators last year.
He faces five other charges, including detaining people without evidence of any crime and organizing members of his tribe into an armed militia with the aim of sparking a civil war.
His is the first public trial of a senior Libyan official accused of killing demonstrators in the 2011 uprising that ended Qadaffy's rule. Tuesday was the third time the defense is granted more time to study the case.
Dorda served as Libya's U.N. envoy in the late 1990s and replaced Moussa Koussa as head of external intelligence services in 2009 before he was tossed in the calaboose Drop the rosco and step away witcher hands up! in September by forces loyal to the now ruling National Transitional Council (NTC).
The interim authorities have been keen to show the world they have a strong judiciary and are capable of conducting fair trials for high-profile figures.

Libya also hopes to try Qadaffy's son Seif al-Islam, who is also wanted by the International Criminal Court ... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ... for crimes against humanity, at home.
Dorda's hearing comes as the country awaits the results of Saturday's historic elections for a General National Congress, which will replace the NTC and lead the country until fresh elections can be held on the basis of a new constitution.

Dozens more protesters were maimed during the festivities that erupted when police opened fire to disperse a demonstration against the arrest of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, activists said.
The Saudi interior ministry described Nimr as an "instigator of sedition."
Ministry front man Mansour Turki said "security forces will not tolerate instigators of sedition who have offended their society and homeland, making of themselves tools in the hands of the nation's enemies."

[Bangla Daily Star] The prosecution failed to produce a vital witness before a Chittagong court yesterday for cross examination in the sensational 10-truck arms haul cases.
Farrukh Ahmad, former deputy inspector general of the Criminal Investigation Department, could not be traced, prosecution lawyer Kamal Uddin told the Chittagong Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1.
Farrukh is a prosecution witness in both the arms and smuggling cases linked with the 2004 arms haul.
On April 2 of that year, law enforcers seized 10 truckloads of arms and explosive at the jetty of Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited.
The former DIG, who was also a member of the five-member probe body formed immediately after the arms seizure, is a vital witness in the cases, said Kamal, adding his absence was abnormal.
The prosecution lawyer submitted a petition to the court, seeking special attention on this issue.
Farrukh had given information about several high profile accused in his deposition on July 3. He also spoke of a few things relating to the Bangladesh Army and the then general officer commanding of the 24 Infantry Division Moin U Ahmed, the prosecution lawyer said.
Farrukh was present in the July 5 court proceedings, Kamal said, adding that from Monday his cell phone was found switched off. The prosecution then sought help from law enforcers of Bhasantek Police Station in the capital to contact him at his residence in Dhaka Cantonment residential area but police failed to trace him.

About 150 villagers from Cheran municipality invaded and occupied the Chamber of Deputies building in Morelia, Michoacan Tuesday to demand government action involving the abduction of two men Sunday, according to Mexican news accounts.
A news item posted on the website of El Sol de Zacatecas news daily reported that the villagers arrived at the Palacio Legislativo in the capital at about 1100 hrs and immediately blocked entrances to the building. A legislative session was in progress when the occupation began.
Villagers from Cheran have claimed for months that nearby villagers, specifically from El Cerecito, have engaged in illegal logging and have a nexus with organized crime groups in the area, reportedly including La Familia Michoacana drug cartel.
Others claim that villagers from Cheran have engaged in a pattern of criminal conduct to include theft, car jacking, turnstile jumping and the maintenance of illegal toll booths in the area.
Also mopery and dupery on the spaceways, to tie it up with a big bow.
The latest protest comes two days after two villagers, Urbano Macias Rafael, 48, and Guadalupe Geronimo Velazquez, 28, were kidnapped at gunpoint as they attempted to retrieve cattle grazing on a nearby plain. Members of the family of the victims were contacted the same day. No demands have been reported, but it is generally assumed that the kidnappers are from El Cerecito.
Monday several villagers including the victims' family occupied the Cheran municipal hall, forcing town officials to remain inside the town hall against their will, as villagers have blocked all exits. As of 1230 hrs, those officials remained imprisoned inside the town hall.
Ninety minutes later the protesters broke into the session, verbally assaulting legislators and demanding the government take action to release the hostages. Villagers also accused the head of the Muchoacan Chamber of Deputies chair of the Committee for Indigenous People, Partido de Revolucionario Democratica (PRD) deputy Eleazar Aparicio Tercero, of always speaking ill of indigenous peoples. Some of the protesters called Aparicio Tercero a whoremonger and a possum face.
The president of the Chamber of deputies, Victor Silva Tejeda, agreed to hold an executive session with the villagers to deal with the problems. The protesters responded by saying they would remain outside the Palacio Legislativo until the kidnap victims were returned.
The report also said that Silva Tejeda was aware of the planned protest hours in advance but chose not to call police.

[Dawn] The Paleostinian government in the West Bank called Tuesday for local elections to be held in the West Bank and Gazoo on October 20, the first since 2006, an official said.
"The Paleostinian government decided today during its meeting to hold the local, municipal and district elections on October 20th throughout the Paleostinian territory," the Paleostinian official told AFP on condition of anonymity.
The decision followed two such calls for local elections last year, with the Paleostinian government in the West Bank seeking to hold the vote first in July 2011 and then in October 2011.
It was at first scheduled for July 9, but after a surprise reconciliation deal between the rival Fatah and the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, movements, the date was put back to October 22.
The deal, which was intended to end years of rivalry that has left the Fatah-dominated Paleostinian Authority running the West Bank, while Hamas controls Gazoo, called for legislative and presidential elections by May 2012.
The two sides were meant to agree on an interim government of independents to steer the Paleostinians towards those elections, but successive disagreements over the make-up of that government stalled the deal's implementation.
And in July 2011, the Paleostinian government in the West Bank said the local elections scheduled at the time for October could not be held in Gazoo, accusing Hamas of hampering preparations for the vote.
In August, Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... issued a decree "postponing the local elections indefinitely to pave the way for internal Paleostinian reconciliation."
But Tuesday's decision comes against the backdrop of continued disagreement between Fatah and Hamas.
After lengthy negotiations, Hamas agreed in May to allow the Central Elections Commission to restart work in the Gazoo Strip, registering thousands of new voters in preparation for the votes called for under the reconciliation deal.
But earlier this month, the movement "temporarily suspended" the commission's work, accusing the Paleostinian government in the West Bank of arresting Hamas members there and citing various technical "obstacles."
The last time the Paleostinians went to the polls was for parliamentary elections in 2006, which Hamas won by a landslide.
New parliamentary and presidential elections had been due to be held in January 2010 but the Paleostinian Authority abandoned efforts to hold a vote after Hamas refused to organise one in Gazoo.

[An Nahar] Yasser Arafat's widow is to file a lawsuit in La Belle France following allegations the Paleostinian leader died at a Gay Paree hospital in 2004 after being radioactively poisoned, her lawyers said on Tuesday.
"Mrs. Suha Arafat, widow of Paleostinian leader Yasser Arafat, has asked a Gay Pareeian legal practice to file suit against an unnamed person under French jurisdiction," lawyer Pierre-Olivier Sur's practice said in a statement.
"Mrs. Arafat hopes that the authorities will be able to establish the exact circumstances of her husband's death and find out the truth so that justice can be done," it said.

Suha Arafat gave Al-Jazeera permission to take possession of the items, which included clothing Arafat wore in the days before he died aged 75, and hand them over for specialist testing.
Suha Arafat has said she would seek an exhumation to allow specialists to take additional samples for testing, and the Paleostinian leadership has said it would be willing to allow exhumation if Arafat's family agreed.
Many Paleostinians believe Arafat was poisoned by Israel, which has denied the allegations. No, no! Certainly not! accusing Suha Arafat and Paleostinian officials of covering up the real reasons for the former leader's death.

Russia to deliver air defense systems, reconditioned helicopters and fighter jets to Syria this year worth nearly half a billion dollars despite international pressure to halt arms sales to Damascus.
Russia has obligations towards Syria relating to old contracts contracts that were signed in 2008 and were later followed by new ones on air defence systems, the Russian Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperations deputy chief Vyacheslav Dzirkaln said.
They are being fulfilled and they will be fulfilled, he told Russian news agencies on the sidelines of the Farnborough Airshow near London.
But we are not signing any new contracts at this stage, the senior arms export official added in comments echoing ones he had made earlier in the week.
Dzirkaln said Russias decision not to sign new contracts with Syria while the fighting continued in no way spelled a shift in policy or a decision by Moscow to comply with a Western arms embargo of Assads regime.
We are delivering weapons and military technology of an exclusively defensive nature. This primarily concerns air defense systems but also some spare parts, he said.
Dzirkaln said Russia was now thinking up ways of delivering the three helicopters without any losses to us and without any provocations by the interested parties.
Russia last month tried sending a cargo ship to Syria with three repaired attack helicopters as well as elements of an air defence system for President Bashar Assads regime, but the ship was forced to return to its Arctic base in Russia after the mission was exposed by the US States Department and its British insurer who refused to insure the ship.

Kofi Annan called for an investigation to look into the allegations, which stirred up the expected cesspool but couldn't seem to come up with enough evidence to indict Kofi himself, or even Kojo... in Tehran on Tuesday, Salehi said "The political issues are complicated ones and the region and the world are on the brink of sensitive developments, "
" All efforts should unite to prevent the extension of the crisis in Syria and limit its repercussions and we should not allow the situation to become worse," he added.
The Iranian Minister pointed out that "Democracy, independence and combating corruption are preserved rights for the Syrian people," asserting that the Syrian government committed to achieve its promises to meet all the legitimate demands of the Syrian people as it achieved tangible steps in this regard.
" We concentrate on ending the crisis in Syria which, if continued, will not be in the interest of anyone in the region, " Salehi said.
Salehi advised the regional countries to exercise prudence over the crisis in Syria and warned against the 'catastrophic' upshots of a 'wrong' decision on Syria.
"We should not allow the situation to become worse, which would not be to anyone's benefit."
For his part, Annan said that his talks in Tehran aim at ensuring Iran's support to find peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria, expressing hope to cooperate together to reach important upshots and steps to resolve this crisis, prevent its spreading to reach the whole region and to limit its repercussions which would not be to anyone's interest.

The UN Envoy added "Regarding sending weapons to the armed terrorist groups, we discussed this issue in details in Geneva Conference and we clearly confirmed that we don't wish the crisis to continue or to use a military solution but we should search for a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria,"
He went on to say the use of arms is not consistent with the search for a peaceful solution. On the Iranian role in the crisis in Syria, Annan said "Iran plays positive role in this crisis and seeks to find a peaceful solution to it through dialogue which should start soon with the participation of all sides and that is a pivotal point in the six-point plan I had proposed, "
Annan called on all sides to work together to find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria and defuse it to prevent its bad consequences on the region.
Jalili: Solution in Syria Should Be Reached Without Foreign Intervention
For his part, Secretary General of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili stressed that the solution to the crisis in Syria should be reached in Syria and without foreign interference.
During his meeting with the UN Envoy Kofi Annan, Jalili added that the political dialogue and the efforts to reach a ceasefire should be synchronized.
He highlighted that the solution in Syria will be achieved by reaching the real democracy not by sending weapons and committing criminal acts.
"The International Observers should prevent the flow of weapons to the armed terrorist groups in Syria. The history of the USA proves that it is unable to play a positive role in solving the crisis in Syria, so it can't be part of the solution," Jalili said.
In return, Annan talked about the results of Geneva meeting, hailing the role of Tehran in solving the crisis in Syria.

(SANA) -- People of the occupied Syrian Golan reiterated their adherence to the Syrian nationality and their rejection to all practices of the Israeli occupation forces.
In a statement made by religious and social bodies in Majdal Shams town, people of Golan refuted the allegations of Zionist media outlets saying that they halted excommunication measures against the Syrians who accepted the Israeli IDs.
They stressed their commitment to the national document made on March 31st 1981, adding that the Golan is an integral part of the homeland, Syria.
Sheikh Atef Shaalan from Ein Qniyyeh town told SANA that "We are Syrian Arab people, we were and we'll continue to be. occupation will go eventually as several armies came to this region and went out throughout centuries."
Sheikh Hayel Sharaf from the occupied town of Mas'ada said that "These media allegations are an attempt to target the people of the occupied Golan as they preserved their Arab identity despite more than four decades of occupation."

(SANA) -- Prime Minister, Dr. Riad Hijab, on Tuesday called on ministers to continue their field tours and intensify meetings and communication with citizens to fulfill their daily and basic demands.
In a session held on Tuesday, the cabinet discussed job opportunities currently available through the Youth Employment Program. The cabinet approved providing 25,000 job opportunities this year with annual contracts, with emphasis on appointing employees in their own areas.
The Cabinet also discussed economic and services issues as deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs and Minister of Local Administration Omar Ghallawanji and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Qadri Jamil briefed the Cabinet on the economic and services situation.
Within the context of completing the Administrative Reform Program, the cabinet approved a bill on illicit gains, a bill on establishing a commission for combating corruption, and a bill on establishing a department for inspection and supervision in every ministry.
For his part, Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs, Dr. Ali Haidar, briefed the cabinet on the ministry's activities and meetings with some opposition figures to reach joint cooperation and common denominators to achieve national reconciliation and prepare for holding a conference on national reconciliation soon.
In a statement after the session, Director of the Prime Minister's Office Tayseer al-Zou'bi said that the Cabinet reviewed the economic, service and infrastructure issues which concern citizens.
He added that the cabinet took several decisions including offering services and rehabilitating infrastructure and public facilitations in the areas badly affected by the armed terrorist groups.
