Leading Sunni Clerics Demand Global Ban on Insults to Islam
Six months after declaring that all churches in the Arabian peninsula should be destroyed, Saudi Arabia's top cleric called at the weekend for a global ban on insults targeting all religious "prophets and messengers," a category that, from a Muslim perspective, includes Jesus Christ.

Saturday's demand by Saudi grand mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh came on the same day that another of Sunni Islam's most prominent figures, Egypt's Al-Azhar University grand imam Ahmed el-Tayyeb, made a similar appeal.

Both men were reacting to an amateur video satirizing Mohammed, whose emergence on the Internet has been blamed for protests targeting American diplomatic missions across the Islamic world. According to wire services at least 12 deaths have been linked to the protests since Thursday, with deaths reported in Tunisia, Sudan, Pakistan, Yemen, Lebanon and Egypt.

The two clerics' calls are a new salvo in an unremitting campaign by Islamic political and religious leaders, spearheaded by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to pressure non-Muslims to treat Islam with deference.

In a statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Asheikh "appealed to all countries and international organizations to criminalize acts ridiculing all prophets and messengers (peace be upon them)."

The kingdom's Arab News pointed out that he was referring to such figures as "Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Mohammed."
Well, that last line of prophets would make the liberal artists in New York eligible for a Islam beheading. Let me be the first to tell the cleric to fuck off and he can take his goofy ass moon god and shove it up his ass along with Mohammed's beard.

Afghanistan
Afghan Defence issues culture guides to tackle Afghan insider attacks
Don't take offence if NATO soldiers exit the shower naked or ask to see a picture of your wife -- it is normal and no reason to open fire, intone new cultural guidelines from the Afghan defence ministry. Five thousand copies of a hastily written 28-page brochure have been distributed among 195,000 members of the Afghan army, most of them illiterate, in the latest attempt to clamp down on a phenomenon known as insider killings.

NATO attributes around 75 percent of the attacks to grudges, misunderstandings and cultural differences, so the Afghan ministry has taken matters into their own hands with avuncular advice for soldiers, even if they can't read. More than 10 years after NATO troops came to Afghanistan, Western habits -- like winking, swearing and raising the middle finger -- need to be spelt out to make sure Afghan troops in the deeply religious country do not feel offended.

"Even minor cultural differences can cause friction and misunderstanding," says the "Brochure for Comprehending the Culture of the Coalition Forces" before listing taboos in Afghan culture that are seen as perfectly normal in the West. "Remember all misunderstandings are unintentional," it warned.

And advice for heated moments was simple.

"If you or your ISAF colleagues become angry, stay away for a while until the situation becomes normal. In that case, tell your commander to help you, and to mediate or reconcile between you and your ISAF partners," the pamphlet reads.

They educate Afghan Army boys about the western way of handling a dispute. And then he turns on his TV and see that the way to settle a dispute in a US school or workplace is to start shootin people. Perhaps they send that instructions to US postal service?

Libya Protest 'Hijacked' by Extremists, U.S.'s Rice Says
[Bloomberg] The protest in Libya that killed U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans last week appears to have begun spontaneously and was "hijacked" by myrmidons, United Nations
...When talk is your weapon it's hard to make yourself heard over the artillery...
Ambassador Susan Rice said.
No, Ms. Rice, it was a professionally planned terrorist attack. There were no 'protesters' on scene, and it was not 'spontaneous'. Either you know this and you're lying, or you don't know this and are clueless. These are not exclusive possibilities...
Intelligence so far shows the protest began as "a spontaneous, not a premeditated, response" to demonstrations in Cairo over a "very offensive video" criticizing Islam, Rice said yesterday on ABC's "This Week" program. "As that unfolded, it seems to have been hijacked, let us say, by some individual clusters of Death Eaters who came with heavier weapons."

"We do not have information at present that leads us to conclude that this was premeditated or preplanned," she said, speaking on CBS's "Face the Nation." She said on ABC that a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe aims to determine what happened in the Sept. 11 attack at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Even so, Arizona Senator John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...
, the senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, disputed the contention that the attack on the Benghazi consulate was largely spontaneous.

"How spontaneous is a demonstration when people bring rocket-propelled grenades and heavy weapons?" McCain asked on CBS yesterday. He said there was "no doubt" the attack was waged by "extremists," though he didn't know how long it had been planned.

'Turning Point'

Mohammed Yussef Magariaf, the recently elected head of Libya's General National Congress, said in an interview in Benghazi that the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate "is a turning point for the country."

"Confrontation is necessary and inevitable with these elements," Magariaf said. "Today, it is the Americans, tomorrow it is going to be the Libyans."

Magariaf said the assault on the U.S. mission was part of a wider campaign to destabilize Libya, and the forces of Evil must be "confronted" by pro-government forces. He said that communications intercepted by the U.S. ahead of the attack linked al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb to another Islamist brigade known as Ansar al-Shariah.
...a Yemeni Islamist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends...

He said separately on CBS's "Face the Nation" program yesterday that about 50 arrests have been made in connection with the attack.

#5  We have reached a point where public officials literally tell falsehoods that are beyond any reasonable judgement to keep power for their Master. Taking an oath is now just another meaningless spouting of gibberish to these people, because it is all about power and influence and prestige and future jobs, not actual public service with the good of the nation uppermost in their mind. This smug jackass actaully thinks she is credible as she tells people that know better that it was all, spontaneous. Mortars, RPGs and automatic weapons, site plans, compromised safe hous locations and photo surveillance all were "spontaneous" and she cites an investigation by the FBI, who were afraid to land because no one has secure the crime scene on AMerical sovereign territory becasue its "too dangerous". We need to get these creatures out of Washington, and then cauterize the mold they left in the civil service and courts.

Israel's El Al 'looks to end Cairo flights'
[France 24] Israel's El Al airlines is seeking to put an immediate end to its weekly flight to Cairo for the first time since the signing of the 1979 peace treaty with Egypt, the Maariv newspaper reported on Sunday.

The plans were laid out in a letter sent by El Al's chief executive to Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, which pointed to heavy security requirements and high operational costs, rendering it not economically viable.

"Operating the flight route to Cairo and maintaining the necessary infrastructure for that requires a large amount of security and operational resources, and heavy economic expenditure which amounts to hundreds of thousands of dollars annually," wrote CEO Eliezer Shakedi.

"Without any commercial justification and in light of the high economic cost of operating this line, El Al cannot continue to bear these heavy expenses, and therefore is intending to stop operating the route to Cairo immediately," said the letter, excerpts of which were published in Maariv.

The airline was not immediately available to comment on the report, but a front man for Lieberman confirmed receiving the letter. "The matter is being looked into," Irena Etinger told AFP.

El Al has been flying the route between Tel Aviv and Cairo for more than three decades, running at least one flight per week, Maariv said.

But since the overthrow of president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
in February 2011 and the unrest which followed, the airline decided to operate the service on a reduced basis according to commercial needs in order to fulfil government demands, Shakedi wrote.

The flights, he said, were almost empty, and if the airline were to continue operating them, it would need assurances about which government body would help foot the bill.

"In a situation like this, and given the sensitive security situation in Egypt, El Al would have to make special arrangements which would have substantial costs," he wrote.

In light of Israel's strained ties with Egypt's new Islamic President Mohammed Morsi, the foreign ministry fears the flights may never be reinstated.

"Any element of normalisation between the two countries that is stopped, simply won't be reinstated," a ministry source told the paper.

Egypt presidential adviser blasts call for 1-month boycott of Google
[Al Ahram] Member of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi's advisory team Ayman El-Sayad on Sunday took a swipe at recent calls by ex-MP and Moslem Brüderbund member Hassan El-Brins for a one-month boycott of internet giant Google
...contributed $814,540 to the 2008 Obama campaign...
to protest the latter's refusal to remove a controversial anti-Islam film from its online video platform YouTube.

The short film, which denigrates Islam and the Prophet Mohamed, sparked violent demonstrations across the region last week.

"Is someone really calling to boycott Google? I didn't think this could be done by someone who realises we're in the 21st century," El-Sayad declared via Twitter on Saturday.

Egypt's Morsi defiantly receives Sudan's Al-Bashir in Cairo
[Al Ahram] Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi on Sunday received Sudanese counterpart Omar Al-Bashir at the Presidential Palace in Cairo's Heliopolis district, where they agreed to inaugurate an Egypt-Sudan highway and the Sudanese branch of Egypt's National Bank by the end of this week.

The Sudanese leader arrived at Cairo International Airport on Sunday afternoon, where he was welcomed by Egyptian Vice-President Mahmoud Mekki.

According to presidential front man Yasser Ali, the two heads of state agreed at the meeting that the Sudanese branch of the Egyptian National Bank, as well as an Egypt-Sudan highway, would be opened on Thursday during an upcoming visit by Prime Minister Hisham Qandil to Khartoum scheduled for 19 and 20 September.

Amnesia Amnesty International has called on Egypt to withdraw its invitation to Al-Bashir or arrest him when he arrives, in accordance with an arrest warrant issued against the latter by the International Criminal Court
... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ...
in The Hague for his alleged role in crimes against humanity in Sudan's turbulent western Darfur region.

Ali also noted that the Organisation of the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
was still revising the arrest warrant and that Egypt was committed to its final resolution.

Al-Bashir took power in 1989 backed by the Sudanese branch of the Moslem Brüderbund.

Arabia
Strategy Page: Al Qaeda in Yemen Fleeing UAVs For Safety In Syria
Key graphs:
The U.S. believes, based on intercepted communications, interrogations of captured cut-throats and reports from informants on the ground that al Qaeda is sending more and more of its personnel to Syria. There, it is safer (no American UAVs and missile attacks) and the cut-throats expect the Assad dictatorship to fall and the new government to reward al Qaeda (who are doing a lot of the fighting) to be given a sanctuary in Syria. That has happened before but usually did not last as some Islamic terror groups could not help attacking the secular Assad government. A post-Assad government will be no different in the eyes of some hard-core al Qaeda men. Getting out of Yemen isn't easy for known al Qaeda members (who need false documents and such), and even those who can easily pass as just another Yemeni need money and coordination with al Qaeda groups in Syria. So not as many al Qaeda men can travel to Syria as quickly as they would like.

The American UAV campaign has been a huge success, killing dozens of key al Qaeda personnel and many lower ranking terrorists. In the last two weeks at least three dozen al Qaeda have been killed by these attacks and so far this year about 200 have died. Many more al Qaeda have been killed or captured by the army in the south, which is out there daily looking for groups of al Qaeda trying to hide while planning more terror attacks and an eventual comeback.

China-Japan-Koreas
Panetta Warns of War Between China and Japan Over Disputed Islands
This is not getting much attention
Exchanging warnings but avoiding confrontations thus far, Chinese and Japanese ships have come within less than half a nautical mile of each other in an ongoing dispute over the sovereignty of contested islands.

Amid deepening tensions in a long-running saga over the uninhabited islands, known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned Sunday about the possibility of war between the two Asian countries.

“What we don't want is to have any kind of provocative behavior on the part of China or anybody else result in conflict,” he told reporters accompanying him on a trip that includes stops in Japan, China and New Zealand.

“My purpose will be to urge that they engage in the effort by the Asian nations to try to work out a format for resolving these issues,” he added, referring to a code of conduct developed by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in a bid to manage unconnected territorial disputes between China and ASEAN members in the South China Sea.

Asked again about the concerns, Panetta said he was worried that “when these countries engage in provocations of one kind or another over these various islands, that it raises the possibility that a misjudgment on one side or the other could result in violence and could result in conflict, and that conflict would then, you know, have the potential of expanding.”

“We’re going to face more of this, countries are searching for resources,” he added. “There’s going to be questions raised as to who has jurisdiction over these areas. There has got to be a peaceful way to resolve these issues.”

Any conflict between Japan and China could risk drawing in the United States.

Although the U.S. position is that is does not take sides in the territorial dispute the Obama administration, like the Bush administration before it, has confirmed that the islands fall within the scope of article five of the 1960 U.S.-Japan Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security – an appraisal rejected by Beijing.

The treaty’s article five states: “Each Party recognizes that an armed attack against either Party in the territories under the administration of Japan would be dangerous to its own peace and safety and declares that it would act to meet the common danger in accordance with its constitutional provisions and processes.”

The Senkaku/Diaoyu islands, located about halfway between the Chinese mainland and Japan’s southernmost island of Okinawa, have been under disputed Japanese control since the late 19th century.

China is nowhere near needing that type of distraction and Japan is willing to go toe to toe at the moment. Resources can be negotiated and the Chinese and Japanese know this and will work it out quietly behind the scenes while the public faces scream and yell.

Actually, China badly needs a distraction from the coming economic meltdown. Plus there is an upcoming leadership change in the Party and some associated revisions to the constitution.

Couple that with the territorial issues that gromky mentions upstream, some historical animosities, China's sense of Manifest Destiny, and you have all the ingredients.

#13  Pragmatically, the PLAN may have acquired a number of new modern warships, but these are still mostly inferior to older ones of the JMSDF, let alone Japan's new AEGIS or Super-AEGIS-centric stuff.

Unless China resorts to using its Nukes, Analysts predict Japan will prevail in a major conventional war between the JSDF + PLA, although Japan will have a hard fight on its hands.

Perhaps more importantly, CHINA'S ULTIMATE INTENT IS NOTSOMUCH RE-C0NQUEST OF THE DIAOYUS ANDOR RYUKYUS [Okinawa archipelago] FROM NIPPON, BUT TO "FORCE OPEN" PERMAMENT + "UNCHALLENGED" PLA AIR-NAVAL STRATEGIC ACCESS FROM NE ASIA INTO WESTPAC, VEE OKINAWA-TAIWAN CORRIDOR = "DRAGON TRIANGLE".

IOW, NILBLOGS = In China's mind, any Sino-Japanese conventional war oer the disputed Diaoyus/Senkakus will also be a battle or war for control, dominance of Okinawa, Taiwan, Korean Peninsula, + northern PHIL.

IMO the JSDFS must be ready for at least a SINO-JAPANESE LIMITED NUCLEAR = LIMITED TACTICAL NUCLEAR WAR SCENARIO(S) vee China + PLA.

Either that, or Japan must renounce its sovereignty of the Diaoyus + prolly Okinawa to China.

Extremists among Muslim rioters at Sydney protest
Al-Qaeda sympathisers were among those involved in violent weekend protests in Sydney, which saw Muslim men engage in a series of clashes with security forces.

Several of the hundreds of protesters who marched on the city's US consulate were carrying the black flags adopted by the proscribed terror organisation and its splinter groups, including the Islamic State of Iraq. Many others wore headbands which said: "We are your soldiers, O Mohammed."

Muslim leaders denounced the violence yesterday, saying the protest had been "hijacked" by a group which called itself the "Sixth Pillar".

One of the six men arrested on Saturday, 29-year-old champion boxer Ahmed Elomar, appeared in court yesterday wearing a T-shirt with the words "Sixth Pillar". Some sources suggested the group were associated with controversial Sydney sheik Feiz Mohammed.

The president of the Lebanese Muslim Association, Samier Dandan, said they were not part of any of the Australia's established Islamic organisations. He said, "Where and how they operate we still don't know."

Six people have been charged in relation to the violence, in which four people were hospitalized, while police have created a strike force to analyze footage of the demonstration in order to track down others involved.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said, "This is a no-nonsense engagement. If you want to act like you are extremist criminals, we will treat you like you're extremist criminals. I can guarantee those extremists who caused these problems, they will be joining those already charged. If you were sensible, you would come forward now and speak with police."

A second police operation will monitor the aftermath of the protest, including social media websites thought to have been used to orchestrate Saturday's violence.

There are fears a second peaceful protest against the video planned for next weekend could be disrupted.

Julia Gillard yesterday called the video "truly repulsive".

"(But) there is never any excuse for violent behavior. To anybody who wants to replicate that behavior today, I just want to say very strongly that this kind of conduct has no place on the streets of our country," the Prime Minister said.

Tony Abbott said the protests were not "an acceptable face of Islam ... Newcomers to this country are not expected to surrender their heritage, but they are expected to surrender up their hatreds".

He added, "I think all Australians need to give a very strong message ... violent protest is never acceptable in a country such as ours."

Keysar Trad, founder of the Islamic Friendship Association of Australia, was appalled to see children at the protest holding up signs that read "Behead all those who insult the prophet".

He said, "Our prophet would be sitting in heaven wondering are those really my followers?"

Europe
Greece fears new Syrian migration wave
Greece must "fortify" itself against illegal immigration, fearing a new wave from conflict-torn Syria, the public order minister said on Monday as officials reported pressure on maritime borders.

"Measures were discussed... to fortify the Aegean Sea," Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias told reporters after a meeting with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras that also included the ministers of defence and shipping.

"A migration wave is starting to show, it has not yet reached Greece in large numbers, currently it is heading to Turkey, Jordan and Iraq, but the country must be ready," Dendias said.

More than 250,000 Syrians have fled to neighbouring countries to escape the 18-month violence that has killed more than 27,000 people according to activists.

Turkey currently hosts some 80,000 refugees in several camps in the southeast bordering Syria. But it has warned it can handle no more than 100,000 refugees.

Greece, battling a five-year recession and insolvency and already home to hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants and asylum seekers over the past decade, is also unable to cope with the strain.

Police reinforcements have been sent to Greece's northeastern border with Turkey, the main overland route used by migrant smugglers, but the flow appears to have switched to the Aegean Sea islands facing the Turkish mainland.

"I wake up every morning and say, 'Has anything happened to Syria today?'" the prime minister told the Washington Post over the weekend.

"If something happens in Syria, thousands of people would be flowing into Greece. Illegal immigrants are already a very big problem for us. We are already taking big steps to disallow illegal immigrants from coming in. Imagine if that number is multiplied by 10," Samaras said.

French Jewry alerted to watch out for 'fake Jews'
Local security services say terror groups may try to conduct reconnaissance and gain access to community buildings

JTA -- The security service of La Belle France's Jewish communities has alerted French Jews to "individuals pretending to be Jewish to gain access to community facilities."

In a statement released Sept. 14, the Service de Protection de la Communauté Juive, or SPCJ, also declared a state of elevated alertness during the High Holidays.

"This year we have noticed in La Belle France various suspected cases of intelligence gathering on Jewish targets," the communiqué read.

"The new [Jewish] year will be celebrated at a time when the threat from terrorist attacks is particularly high," it added. SPCJ requested French Jews exercise vigilance at synagogue, at Jewish schools and at community gatherings.

On March 19, an Islamist turban killed three children and a rabbi at Otzar Hatorah school in Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
. SPCJ documented more than 90 anti-Semitic incidents in the 10 days that followed the shooting.

In its announcement, SPCJ also referenced the July 18 terrorist attack in Bulgaria.

The perpetrator killed himself and six other people -- five of whom were Israelis -- in a pre-planned attack at Burgas airport. Israel said Hezbollah was behind the attack.

Dearborn Imam Demands Government Enforcement of Sharia Censorship
H/T JihadWatch
As anger flared across the Muslim world Friday over an anti-Islam video from the U.S., the religious leader of Michigan's largest mosque slammed Islamic extremists for attacking U.S. embassies and urged Muslims not to react violently to attacks on their prophet.

And he urged the U.S. to do more to stop the people behind the video and those who are promoting it.

"Somehow, they should be stopped," said Imam Hassan Al-Qazwini of the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn. "The U.S. response should be much more stronger than verbal condemnation."
I.e. free speech should be suppressed forcefully.
"This is not what Islam preaches," Al-Qazwini said of the fatal attacks. "There is no way we can tolerate killing."

At the same time, he said we can't "sit and watch" as the anti-Islam video is promoted.
"Silence, I kill you!"
"We can do more to stop inciting violence," he said. Allowing the movie has "broader ramifications for our troops, diplomats and Americans abroad."
One could interpret this as a threat...
The filmmaker and those who support the movie, such as Quran-burning Pastor Terry Jones of Florida, "have blood on their hands," he said.
So the government should neutralize these criminals.
Speaking during Friday prayers -- the most popular gathering time of the week for Muslims -- Al-Qazwini said he was dismayed to see Islamic extremists take down the U.S. flag at an embassy and replace it with an Al-Qaida flag.

"Al-Qaida is the last organization that speaks for Muslims," Al-Qazwini said.
I actually believe he was dismayed. He's an islamofascist of the Shi'ite persuasion.
Al-Qazwini told the congregation that Muslims "should not be quiet" when their prophet is attacked.
Infidels however are to be seen, not heard.
But "we cannot be violent" in responding, he said.
If the government enforces their will they don't have to be violent.

This is not just a random crackpot. Even though he's strongly linked to the Iranian theocracy (studied in Qom 1980-1992) he's politically connected. On October 1, 2003 he delivered the opening prayer for the 108th Congress. This guy is mainstream US Islam.

Or at least arrest him to treasonous and seditious speech.

Sorry for the omission!

Note the the headline "Dearborn imam: Violence not what Islam preaches". Apparently the reporters didn't not comprehend at all what this guy was actually saying.

Any diligent reporter would have asked his Enormity about the exact definition of a "much more stronger response" and how exactly those with "blood on their hands" "should be stopped."

Here's a religious leader connected to Iran's theocracy and the US political establishment, apparently openly calling for the overthrow of the constitutional system.

As much as e.g. Terry Jones is an unfashionable bitter clinger on the fringe, Al-Qazwini is mainstream.

This should be a BFD.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan tests nuclear-capable missile
Pakistan on Monday conducted a successful test fire of the indigenously developed multi tube Cruise Missile Hatf-VII (Babur), having a range of 700 kilometers.

Babur Crusie Missile is a low flying, terrain hugging missile, which can strike targets both at Land and Sea with pin point accuracy. It carries stealth features. Equipped with modern cruise missile technology of Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC), it can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads.

The missile was launched from a state of the art Multi Tube Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV), which significantly enhances the targeting and deployment options of Babur Weapon system.

The test was witnessed by Director General Strategic Plans Division Lieutenant General (R) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Chairman National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) Mr. Muhammad Irfan Burney, senior officers from the armed forces and strategic organizations.

In today’s test National Command Authority’s fully automated Strategic Command and Control Support System (SCCSS) was once again employed. It enables robust Command and Control capability of all strategic assets with round the clock situational awareness in a digitized network centric environment to decision makers at National Command Centre (NCC). The system has the added capability of real time remote monitoring of missile flight path. The test consolidates and strengthens Pakistan’s deterrence capability and National security.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Netanyahu: Iran will have 90% of enriched material for a bomb in six months
In which Bibi hits the American Sunday news talk shows.
[Times of Israel] Netanyahu: Obama and Romney 'equally committed' to stopping Iran.
He has to say that, though everyone paying attention knows it's not true.
'People are trying to draw me into the American election, and I'm not going to do that. We cherish the bipartisan support for Israel in the US'

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu renewed his call on Sunday for the United States to set "red lines" on Iran's nuclear program, and seemed to acknowledge differences between the Israeli and American assessments of the timetable for the development of an Iranian nuclear weapon.

The Iranian regime is "moving very rapidly to complete the enrichment of the [uranium] they need to complete a nuclear bomb," he told CNN's Candy Crowley on Sunday. "In six months or so they'll be 90 percent of the way there."

"They're in the red zone," Netanyahu told NBC's Meet the Press, "in the last 20 yards, and you can't let them cross that goal line, score a touchdown, because that would have unbelievable, grievous consequences for the peace of us all."

For that reason, he said, "I think it's important to place a red line before Iran."

Netanyahu added that he believed red lines would lessen the chance of a conflict in the region. "I think that actually reduces the chance of military conflict, because if [Iranian leaders] know there's a point, a stage, in the enrichment or other nuclear activities that they cannot cross -- because they'll face consequences -- I think actually they'll not cross it," he told CNN.

Netanyahu's message to millions of American viewers follows a week during which President Barack Obama
Ready to Rule from Day One...
, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as For a good time at 3 a.m. call Hillary and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another John Marshall ...
and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta
...current SecDef, previously Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Panetta served as President Bill Clinton's White House Chief of Staff from 1994 to 1997 and was a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1993....
all publicly disagreed with Netanyahu's call to set "red lines" for Iran's nuclear program.

The prime minister seemed to acknowledge disagreement with the B.O. regime Sunday, noting, "I know people value flexibility. I think that's important."

But, he argued, "at this late stage of the game, I think that Iran needs to see clarity. I'm not sure I would have said this three years ago, two years ago, one year ago, but as we get closer and closer to the end game, I think we have to establish that. That's becoming important."

When Crowley noted that Obama has already promised to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, Netanyahu replied that "implicit in that is that he'll stop them before they get a nuclear weapon, which means he'll draw a red line somewhere. I think it's important he communicate that to them."

Pressed on the apparent gap between the sense of urgency in the Israeli government and the American administration's stated willingness to wait for economic sanctions and other efforts to bear fruit, Netanyahu pinned the differences on the two countries' strategic calculations.

"You're a big country. You're several thousand miles away. You have a stronger military capability," he told CNN. "We're a smaller country. We're more vulnerable. They threaten our very annihilation. Obviously, we have different capabilities and different clocks.

"But," he added, in a reference to recent Iranian efforts to move their enrichment capabilities to underground bunkers, "the difference between our capabilities is becoming less important, because Iran is fast approaching a point where it could disappear from our capabilities of stopping them. 'Our capability' means not only Israel."

David Gregory, host of Meet the Press, pressed the prime minister about the election-season timing of his call for "red lines," and about Republican contender Willard Mitt Romney
...former governor of Massachussetts, currently the Publican nominee for president. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney has a record as a successful businessman, heading Bain Capital, and he rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from the midst of bribery and mismanagement scandals. More to the point, he isn't President B.O...
's assertion that Obama had "thrown allies like Israel under the bus."

Netanyahu declined repeatedly to comment on the elections or on differences between the candidates.

"What's guiding my statements is not the American political calendar, but the Iranian nuclear calendar," he told Gregory. "I have no doubt [Obama and Romney] are equally committed to preventing" an Iranian nuclear weapon. "It's a vital American interest."

He went further on CNN, noting that Israel enjoyed bipartisan support in the United States.

"People are trying to draw me into the American election, and I'm not going to do that. But I will say that we value, we cherish the bipartisan support for Israel in the United States, and we're supported by Democrats and Republicans alike. This is not an electoral issue. It is not based on any electoral consideration. I think that there's a common interest of all Americans of all political persuasions to stop Iran. This is a regime that is giving vent to the worst impulses that you see right now in the Middle East."

America's ambassador to the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
, Susan Rice, responded Sunday on CNN by saying there is "no daylight" between the US and Israel and saying Obama "will do what it takes" to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. But, she said, "we are not at that stage yet."

"Our bottom line -- if you want to call it a red line -- the president's bottom line has been that Iran will not acquire a nuclear weapon, and we will take no option off the table to ensure that it does not acquire a nuclear weapon, including military," Rice later said.

MILF rejects attacks on US over Islam film
The Phillipines’ largest Moro terrorist insurgent group yesterday rejected al Qaeda calls to attack US targets supposedly over an anti-Islamic film that has caused protests worldwide.

The MILF’s chief political officer Ghazali Jaafar said that they have told its 12,000 members to observe a ceasefire pact with the government, and not to attack US targets in the country. Jaafar said, "We do not live in the dark ages, there are rules and laws that need to be followed. We have an existing ceasefire with the Philippines, and we will not violate that."

He called the killing of the US ambassador to Libya and three other Americans in Benghazi a "senseless act of violence."

"Even in war, there are international norms that need to be accepted, including the protection of diplomats and embassies," he said, while condemning those behind the amateur film.

Jaafar said the MILF would monitor other Moro groups adding, "We will inform government negotiators of any impending terror attacks."

Catholic school in Mindanao agrees to lift hijab ban
A Catholic school will soon be lifting its controversial ban on the the hijab, after talks between Christians and Muslims in Zamboanga City.

A joint statement by Pilar College and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) said the decision was based on "common values" such as hospitality, communion, respectful service, openness to dialogue, and sensitivity to the signs of the times.

The statement did not specify when the ban will be lifted. It said the school will do so after introducing "programs toward the voluntary wearing of hijab".

Sister Maria Fe Gerodias explained that the school has banned the hijab for over a century -- not just recently, as reports said -- because some Muslims had experienced discrimination over the veil.

She said, "The Christians do not really understand very well the value and the need for the hijab. That's why we need to conduct a formative program, educative program, for our Christian parents, to educate students and teachers. And I think that's also needed for the Muslim communities, because they themselves have varying interpretations of the use of the hijab."

The NCMF, for its part, will assist the school in implementing the programs, and assign a qualified female representative to regularly participate in implementing the school's interfaith programs.

Obama can be sued over insulting film: Iran official
A senior Iranian official says US President Barack Obama could face legal action in connection with the production of an anti-Islam movie by an American Jew.

“A complaint could be filed with US courts against Obama for his violation of articles 18 and 27 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) calling for respect of faiths,” Javad Mohammadi, the deputy head of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution (SCCR), said on Sunday.

“Article 18 and 27 of the ICCPR, adopted by the United Nation, stipulate that the religion and the rights of the minorities should be respected,” Mohammadi said.

The US government is a signatory to this covenant and has to respect it. Therefore, an individual or an NGO (non-governmental organization) can file a lawsuit against the president of the country for breach of the covenant, he added.

Mohammadi heaped praise on the Muslims for their massive protests against the movie, noting “Protest against insults to religious sanctities should not be limited to time, place and customary reactions and we should undertake legal measures.”

“The world’s elite know pretty well that Islam is a divine religion and Muslims have always respected divine religions and messengers and would never remain silent vis-à-vis any desecration,” the official said.

West's rebel worries leave Syria strategy struggling
France may be considering arming Syria's rebels but the U.S. and other Western powers have yet to find opposition figures they genuinely trust as they worry over growing jihadi and sectarian forces.

The attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya's Benghazi that killed its ambassador and anti-American demonstrations elsewhere this week over an obscure video that ridiculed the Prophet Mohammad might have no Syria links but will make nervous governments even more cautious.

Western officials say there is little doubt a growing number of foreign jihadi fighters are entering the fray, although it is far from clear whether any have direct links to Al Qaeda. But It is just one worry amongst many.

"This is not a situation where the U.S. can do much to shape what happens," says Mona Yacoubian, a former State Department official and now fellow and Syria expert at the Stimson Centre. "There has always been a lot of caution within the Obama Administration on Syria and if anything things are getting more complicated."

Working with Libya's initially notoriously disorganised rebels, officials complained, was hard enough; but the opposition to Syrian President Bashar al Assad seems even more diffuse.

That makes policy-making much more complicated and supplying weapons, or even choosing who to talk to, more of a gamble.

"We badly need to identify some political and military leaders who can make clear that they seek a political settlement to bring all fighting to an end," said one Western official on condition of anonymity. "Without that the blood letting reinforces the worst aspects of sectarianism and makes a soft landing ever less likely."

Iran: Saboteurs cut power lines to underground nuclear site
Explosives were used to cut power lines from city of Qom to Fordow underground uranium enrichment plant last month, Iranian nuclear chief claims; says "terrorists, saboteurs" have infiltrated UN nuclear watchdog.

Explosives were used to cut the electricity power lines to Iran's Fordow underground enrichment plant last month in an apparent attempt to sabotage Tehran's atomic advances, its nuclear energy chief said on Monday.

It was believed to be the first time Iran has mentioned the incident, which Iranian atomic energy organization chief Fereydoun Abbasi-Davani said took place on Aug. 17.

He also told the annual member state gathering of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that "the same act" had been carried out on power lines to Iran's main enrichment plant near the central town of Natanz, without giving a date.

Abbasi-Davani made clear his view that sabotage would not be successful in slowing Iran's nuclear program, which the West suspects is aimed at developing an atomic bomb capability but which Tehran says is purely peaceful.

#5  Correct me if I'm wrong but you don't need enrichment to have a nuclear reactor that generates electricity. You need enrichment to get enough radioactivity to create a uncontrollable chain reaction, i.e., a great big explosion.

For the first time, Iran acknowledges the presence of Iranian Guards in Syria
The commander-in-chief of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari, said Sunday that members of his elite special operations unit, the Quds Force, are present in Syria and Lebanon, but only to provide counsel in military issues.

"Because of the special situation in Lebanon and Syria, some members of the Quds Force, who are responsible for foreign operations, are in these countries. This does not mean that we have a military presence there," Jafari said

According to him, Iran dispatched advisors to Damascus and Beirut several times.

Jafari also said that Iran is proud of defending Syria, a member of anti-Israeli resistance, by providing them with experience while other countries are not shy of supporting terrorist groups as the so-called "Free Syrian Army."

However, this is the first time the Guards publicly acknowledge the presence of Quds members in Syria.

The Quds force is a special unit responsible for all extra territorial operations and is particularly active in the Middle East.

Last month, the Free Syrian Army said that Al-Quds Force's commander, Maj. Gen. Qassem Suleimani, who has made several trips to Damascus to meet with Assad and his top commanders since January of this year, was killed in Damascus bombing along with six members of Assad's inner circle.

At that time Damascus and Tehran denied this news, With Iran saying that no forces are present outside Tehran.

Meanwhile, a Free Syrian Army spokesman told AFP news that after Col. Abdel Jabbar from the Free Syrian Army held a Skype discussion with international peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, the Free Syrian Army believes Brahimi's mission is pointless and doomed to fail.

"We are confident that Brahimi will fail like the other envoys before him, but we will not be responsible for this failure," Jabbar, the Free Syrian Army chief of Aleppo province in north Syria, said by telephone.

"We discussed the general situation in Syria, including the destruction caused by the regime," he said, adding that the talks are "preliminary."

On the ground, violence that raged from early Sunday killed at least 70 people, mostly civilians. The data was provided by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Activists also said that 20 bodies, including a woman's, were found by residents in the neighbouring district of Tadamon that had been overrun by Assad regime forces.
We don't know why Iran announced that it has figures from Al Quds forces in Syria, which is considered to be the most important force in the Revolutionary Guard and the Iran's military wing abroad.

Apparently, Iran is not concerned about the reaction of this statement at the international level. This is unlike the eagerness of the international community, which despite the massacres and killings, says it does not want to support free Syrian Army with weapons.

The important point here is that the new international envoy communicated, for the first time, with the military opposition. He is not like Annan, who met with political opposition only. This is an achievement in favor of Free Syrian Army.

Today News stated that a high-ranking officer, Yousef Assad, a relative of President Bashar al-Assad, has announced his defection from the Damascus regime.

Although there is a video confirming this, I heard from private sources that the Free Syrian Army intelligence is suspicious about the honesty of this man. He is under the observation of the Free Syrian Army until truthfulness is proven.

Iran’s Shahed 129 UAV capable to fire missile
Chief Commander of the Iranian Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution (IRGC) Mohammad Ali Jafari said during a press conference in Tehran that Iran's new-manufactured Shahed 129 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is capable to be equipped and fire missles, Fars News Agency reported on Sunday.

"Shahed 129 can fly 24 hours permanently and has reconnaissance and fight capabilities," he said, adding with launching new missile on this UAV, firing on that long distant targets is possible.

Earlier, deputy of Iran's defense minister said Iran is equipping its unmanned aerial vehicle Karrar with missiles, Fars News Agency reported on Sep.2. Mohmahhad Eslami said that the flight radious of Iranian homemade Karrar drone is 1000 km.

Iranian official's statement about plans for equiping the UAVs with bomb and missile came while official Tehran announced the production of two homemade UAVs with bombing and reconnaissance capabilities in February 2011.

Iran starts production of advanced radar system
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps started mass-production of a highly advanced air-defense radar system named, Ra'd (Thunder), IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari announced on Sunday.

"The Ra'd air-defense system, which is more advanced than the Buckeye system has recently been developed and is now being mass-produced," Jafari told reporters in a press conference here in Tehran today.

"In ranges up to 50km and in altitudes from 25 to 27km (70,000 feet), Ra'd is ranked as a mid-range radar system," added the General. "The air-defense system will boost the Islamic Republic's ability to counter aerial threats."
Want to bet the Israelis already know how to turn it off?
In May 2012, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Commander Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said Iran is mass-producing Ghadir Radar systems in great numbers, adding that the radar system covers areas over 1,000km in distance.

"This radar system can cover areas around 1,100 in range and its designing and production project ended early last (Iranian) year and is now being mass-produced," Hajizadeh told FNA at the time.

In June 2011, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps put into operation the new home-made long-range Ghadir radar system that enables its forces to monitor low-altitude satellites. The Ghadir radar system which covers areas (maximum) 1,100km in distance and 300km in altitude has been designed and built to identify aerial targets, radar-evading aircrafts, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles as well as low-altitude satellites.

Iran Commander Warns Israel, US Against Attack
The top commander in Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard warned Sunday that his country's missiles will ensure "nothing will remain" of Israel if it takes military action against Tehran over its controversial nuclear program.

Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari also warned that Iran might close the Straits of Hormuz if it is attacked, withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and hit U.S. bases in the Middle East.

Such warnings and references to Israel's destruction have been made before by Iranian officials. But Gen. Jafari's comments to a Tehran news conference were an unusually detailed, strongly worded and comprehensive listing of the means that Iran says it has to retaliate against a strike on its nuclear facilities.

The U.S. and Israel have left open the possibility of such a strike if Iran does not back down from what they say are a push to develop nuclear weapons. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.

"Our response to Israel is clear: I think nothing will remain of Israel (should it attack Iran). Given Israel's small land area and its vulnerability to a massive volume of Iran's missiles, I don't think any spot in Israel will remain safe," he said.

US And Britain Send Warships To The Persian Gulf To Prepare For An Israel Strike On Iran
An armada of U.S. and British naval power is amassing in the Persian Gulf in the belief that Israel is considering a pre-emptive strike against Iran's covert nuclear weapons program.

Warships, aircraft carriers, minesweepers and submarines from 25 nations are converging on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz in an unprecedented show of force as Israel and Iran move towards the brink of war.
