Afghanistan
Gen. Amarkhil to Taliban: Give up insurgency or face death
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The newly-appointed police chief of southeastern Ghazni province Gen. Aminullah Amarkhil called on Talibs to renounce violence and join grinding of the peace processor, warning that the forces of Evil would be eliminated if they continue to their insurgency activities.

Gen. Amarkhil was speaking during an event organized for his introduction as the newly-appointed police chief of Ghazni province.

He said the Talibs should understand that they would never succeed to seize control of Ghazni city since the Afghan cops are far more stronger than them and that the Afghan people are supporting their security forces.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
appointed Gen. Amarkhil to assume security charge of the restive Ghazni province by issuing a decree on Tuesday.

His appointment as Ghazni police chief comes amid rampant insurgency activities by the Talibs.

The Talibs have launched coordinated attack on the provincial city of Ghazni province but the Afghan cops have repelled their attacks.

According to the local government officials, the Talibs were forced to retreat after they suffered heavy casualties during festivities with the security forces.

The officials further added at least 72 Talibs were killed with Gen. Amarkhil saying he will bring key changes in tactics to fight the Taliban bully boyz in coming days.

Taliban Threaten Media to Hide Their Crimes: MPs
[Tolo News] MPs in the Wolesi Jirga, (Lower House of Parliament) on Wednesday criticized the Taliban's threat against TOLO TV and 1TV and said the murderous Moslem group's move is an attempt to stop the two channels from reporting on the group's crimes committed around the country.

Following mounting criticism by the Afghan government and the international community over the Taliban's anti-media move, politicians on Wednesday said any attack on the media would constitute a war crime.

The Taliban on Monday issued strong threats against TOLO TV and 1TV and put these two most-watched channels on their hit list.

In addition they issued death threats against all staff members and threatened to target the media organizations' facilities.

The politicians however announced their support to the TV channels and urged the government to take every possible measure to protect the lives of journalists -- whom the Taliban declared their "military objectives."

According to the MPs, the Taliban does not want the two TV channels to reveal their crimes to the nation.

Sudan accused of withholding rations for Darfur peacekeepers
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
and Britannia on Wednesday accused the Sudanese government of refusing to release food rations and other essential supplies for international peacekeepers in the conflict-torn Darfur region.

Britannia's U.N. Ambassador Matthew Rycroft said he was planning to raise the issue of the United Nations-African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
peacekeeping mission in Sudan's western Darfur region, known as UNAMID, during Wednesday's meeting of the U.N. Security Council on unrelated issues.

"We're very worried that the government of Sudan is preventing UNAMID from doing its job, specifically they are holding up crucial rations and other supplies in Port Sudan that are destined to go to the UNAMID troops," he told news hounds on the way into the council chamber.

"They are not complying with their obligations to support UNAMID," he said.

If the supplies are not released quickly, he said, UNAMID would have to make alternative arrangements which would increase the monthly cost for delivering such supplies to UNAMID from some $3 million to around $13 million.

U.N. front man Stephane Dujarric told news hounds that the holdup involved around 190 containers, mostly food rations but also a few containers with what he described as "operational supplies."

"It's important to note that the current food ration level in the mission area is of great concern to us," Dujarric said. "We obviously urge the government of Sudan to release the containers immediately."

Arabia
South Yemenis Protest for Secession
Of course they do.
[AnNahar] Thousands of southern Yemenis demonstrated Wednesday in Aden demanding the secession of their formerly independent region, three months after Iranian catspaws were driven out.
"Gratitude" clearly is not an Arabic word...
The demonstration was the first open call for secession since southern forces allied with the government and backed by a Saudi-led coalition pushed the rebels out of Aden and other provinces.

But now that the rebel threat has eased, protesters said they do not want to continue the fight against the holy warriors in the north and demanded their own state.

"Taking the southerners into the war in the north cements the unity of Yemen, which we reject," said a banner carried at the rally in Aden's main square of al-Arood.

Marching to commemorate the anniversary of independence from Britannia in 1967, protesters carried flags of the former South Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
state, which was united with the north in 1990.

A secession attempt in 1994 was crushed by northern forces.

Most of the north is now controlled by the Houthis and their allies of forces loyal to former president President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
, since the rebels seized the capital Sanaa unopposed in September 2014 and moved on to capture other provinces.

After pushing the rebels out of five southern provinces in the summer, thanks to air and ground support from the coalition, forces loyal to President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi have set their sights on Marib province east of Sanaa.

But the southerners have other ambitions.

"After achieving victory in the battle, the people of the south adhere to their political demand voiced in 1994, which is reinstating the southern state," said Omar al-Subeihi, the head of the rally organizing committee.

Meanwhile,

In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. The area's Popular Resistance Committees chief Hussein al-Wahishi said, however, that the control of al-Qaeda turbans in Zinjibar does not go beyond the official building.

#1  BTW, I was curious why the "Saudi-US" alliance faught so hard to seize the Bab al-Mandab straight, the strategic southern entrance to the Red Sea and the gateway to the Suez Canal.

The Shia resistance had been so stubborn in Taiz because that province has a long Red Sea coastline used by smugglers to bring in weapons and other aid from Iran. But now that the Shia rebels have lost control of the Taiz coast and the the narrow strait into the Red Sea the Iranian smuggling operations along the Red Sea coast are much more difficult.

Hey, that western education may have paid off.

Gulf states seek to purchase Iron Dome
[Ynet] Fearing Iran's growing arsenal, several Arab countries are attempting to acquire the Israeli-developed missile defense system, in a deal that could be worth hundreds of billions.

Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, and Kuwait are attempting to purchase the Israeli-developed Iron Dome missile defense system in light of the threat of Iran's growing rocket arsenal, Sky News reported on Wednesday.

The deal's scope, if it were to take place, is estimated to be tens, perhaps hundreds of billions of dollars.

According to the report, the six countries, members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, are conducting talks through American intermediaries, including Raytheon - which has worked with Israeli manufacturer Rafael and has helped market the Iron Dome system in the US.

The Gulf states have mentioned that they are also interested in long-range interception systems, such as David's Sling, the Arrow 1, and the Arrow 2. It appears that talks on the matter are at an advanced stage.

According to the GCC, the six countries fear that the recently-signed Iran nuclear deal can lead to the lifting of sanctions, which will bring in an influx of cash that Iran will presumably use to arm itself.

This is in addition to the growing cooperation between Iran and Russia, which is expected to involve military support, as is the case in Syria.

Bahraini Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohammed al Khalifa said during a visit to London that "The Israelis have their small Iron Dome. We'll have a much bigger one in the GCC."

"Iran has been trying to undermine and topple governments in our region for years," he said.

This isn't the first time such a deal has been discussed. A few years ago, the Gulf countries attempted to purchase the system, which led to disagreements between them and Israel. Now, it seems that both sides have found a common foe in Iran.

A senior Gulf government source was quoted as saying that "If Netanyahu were not making less of a mess of things and was more like Anwar Sadat (the former Egyptian president who signed a peace deal with Israel), then we would be happy to buy the missiles straight from Israel," discussing the six countries' insistence on having American mediators involved.

The Gulf states are in the midst of a bloody conflict with Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels in Yemen, which they believe are supported by Iran.

Some have expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s regarding the cooperation between Teheran and Moscow, and were opposed to the nuclear deal, which they consider "naïve". Just a few months ago, Gulf governments demanded American protection from Iran in the form of advanced military systems, fighter jets, and even military intervention.

Sayyed Houthi Vows to Expel, Defeat Invaders
This article is worthy of a drinking game, but please save it for after you have finished work for the day, dear Reader, and only if you are under the supervision of your parents or guardian or are of legal age. The rule is: take one drink of your choice each time Israel (or related terms) or America (or related terms) is mentioned. Ready? Begin!
[ALMANAR.LB] The leader of Ansarullah Yemeni group, Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, stressed on Tuesday that the state of oppression and tyranny practiced by the United States, the Zionist entity and the Saudi regime is escalating.

"Have the US, Israel and the Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. asked in a speech on the occasion of the beginning of the Islamic New Year more than 200 days after the start of the persistent Saudi-US aggression on Yemen.

"Does the reality of the takfiri

s and the Saudi regime differ from the reality of the Zionists?" he added, noting that both are two sides of the same coin of distortion and deviation.

Ansarullah leader revealed that the Zionist entity has lately moved missiles to Khamis Mushayt military base inside Saudi Arabia, indicating that the Saudi regime is cooperating with "Israel" to drag the region into strife.

Sayyed Houthi, however, urged the Yemeni people to bear the responsibility and take advantage of all the values that they have in order to face the Saudi-led invasion.

"We will be able to expel and break them [the aggression forces], just like those free people of Leb and Iraq who were able to expel the Israeli and US enemy out of their countries," Ansarullah leader said.

"Today we have to confront and fight this invasion by all legitimate means. This is a duty and a sacred jihad," he stated.

Moreover, Sayyed Houthi made it clear that the seven-point proposal that was presented in the Sultanate of Oman has annulled all justifications for the aggression.

"Today we must consolidate our independence because occupation means slavery," he stressed.

Britain
Muslim groups welcome new rules on reporting UK hate crime
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Muslim groups in Britannia have welcomed the government's announcement that police forces across England and Wales will be obliged to separately record data on hate crimes against Muslims.

London's Metropolitan Police Service already records figures specific to attacks against Muslims, and in September reported a 71 percent hike in physical, verbal and online Islamophobic crimes.

But under new rules, all forces in England and Wales will be compelled to report data on Islamophobic attacks separately, in the same way they already record anti-Semitic crimes.

Tell MAMA, which monitors attacks on Muslims in the UK, told Al Arabiya News that it welcomed the change that it says will "ensure all forces categorize anti-Muslim hate."

Fiyaz Mughal, Director of Tell MAMA, said: "We have been campaigning for uniformity in the recording processes in forces in England and Wales for some time now and whilst we support victims of anti-Muslim hatred and map, measure and monitor anti-Muslim hatred, this should be parallel with and in partnership with police forces.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan warns countries against backing terror
[AA.TR] In a veiled reference to world powers supporting the Bashir al-Assad regime in Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
has warned countries against backing terrorism.

"If some countries support a person involved in terrorism [Bashir al-Assad], then that means these countries are also involved in terrorism. History won't forgive these countries," Erdogan said at an opening ceremony in the central Turkish province of Cankiri on Wednesday.

"Every intervention in Syria made without realizing this fact will first of all trouble that country undertaking it," he added.

About the recent Ankara bombing, the president said: "While The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
makes a sincere struggle against all terrorist organizations, those who held the state, government and even me responsible for such incidents should know that they are supporting terrorist organizations."

At least 97 people were killed and more than 240 were maimed in Saturday's twin bombings in front of Ankara's main train station.

The president also touched upon the current global refugee problem, saying that refugees, who were forcing the doors of western countries, only left because their country had been made unlivable.

"As long as Syria is not turned into a country for Syrians, it is not possible to solve the refugee and terrorism problems based in that country," he said.

Turkish PM: Syrian regime, Daesh, PKK made deal against opposition
[AA.TR] Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that the Syrian regime, Daesh [Islamic State] and the PKK made an agreement in May to attack the anti-Assad opposition forces and share The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's border with Syria.

"Daesh [Islamic State], PKK and the [Syrian] regime sat around a table on May 28 in Hasakah [in northeastern Syria] and reached an agreement to attack the opposition," he told a live interview on private Show TV channel on Wednesday.

Davutoglu stressed that Daesh [Islamic State] and the PYD, or the Syrian Democratic Union Party, also agreed with the regime of Bashir al-Assad during that meeting to share the Turkish border.

PYD is a Syrian-based affiliate of the PKK -- considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.

"The reason we did not shoot PYD is not its innocence; we will do it if required. We will do what is necessary for Turkey's safety," Davutoglu said.

His remarks closely followed the summoning of American and Russian ambassadors to the Turkish Foreign Ministry earlier in the day for warnings about the sensitivities regarding Turkey's position on the PYD and Washington's military aid to the group, according to diplomatic sources.

"Our message to the Americans, all allies and Russia is very clear: We will not hesitate even a moment [to respond] if the weapons aid to PYD so close to Turkish border becomes a threat to Turkey in any way and PYD begins to harm Turkey via infiltrations like the PKK or weapons transfer," the prime minister said.

The Turkish premier highlighted that Turkey will certainly respond if the PYD makes any attempt to enter Turkey over Iraq.

"At a time when the PYD is so nested with the PKK, which is attacking Turkey, nobody can justify the weapons given to PYD by a friend and ally, or a neigbor country like Russia," he said.

Turkey summons US, Russia envoys over support for Syrian Kurds
How cute -- as if they were equals.
[AlAhram] Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Wednesday warned the United States and Russia against "unacceptable" military and political support for Syrian Kurdish forces fighting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group in Syria.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
earlier summoned US and Russian envoys to warn against supplying arms and support for Syrian Kurdish forces fighting the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria.

"We have a clear position. That position has been conveyed to the United States and the Russian Federation," Davutoglu said in televised comments.

"Turkey cannot accept any cooperation with terrorist organizations which have waged war against it."

A Turkish foreign ministry official told AFP that the US and Russian ambassadors were called to the ministry Tuesday "to convey Turkey's views" about Democratic Unity Party (PYD), the main Kurdish group in Syria.

"Necessary warnings were issued," the official added.

Turkey labels the PYD as the Syrian offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) which has waged a bloody insurgency since 1984.

US-led coalition forces have parachuted in ammunition to anti-IS rebels in northern Syria, stepping their backing for groups battling jihadists.

The move follows the Pentagon's announcement last week that it would halt its much-criticised programme to train moderate rebels, and instead focus efforts on equipping pre-screened rebel leaders from groups actively fighting IS.

Russia is intervening in Syria with bombing raids in support of the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Scourge of Qusayr...
. A top Russian official last week held talks with PYD leader Salih Muslim to discuss the fight against IS.

The PYD's Kurdish fighters control large parts of northern Syria on the Turkish border, where they have for months engaged in bitter fighting with IS jihadists.

Turkey is currently waging a two-pronged "war on terror" against both IS and the PKK, although so far air strikes have overwhelmingly focused on bases of the Kurdish snuffies in northern Iraq.

Davutoglu said Wednesday that there was an "organic bond" between the PKK and the PYD.

"We know that some of those who fled from (Turkish) operations against the PKK in northern Iraq joined the ranks of the PYD in Syria," he said.

"We have a clear stance against terrorist organizations which waged a war against Turkey. We have the same attitude against their affiliates ," Davutoglu said.

He warned the United States and other allies against any cooperation with the PYD.

"Just as the United States and other friendly allies fight against Al-Qaeda linked groups, Turkey is determined to fight against the PKK and its affiliates," he said.

"Just as the United States and allies cannot tolerate arms support for Al-Qaeda and its affiliates, Turkey cannot tolerate arms support for the PKK and its affiliates."

He said that nobody could guarantee the ammunitions provided for Syrian Kurdish groups would not end up in Turkey.

"We will never allow a weapons stockpile in Syria to be inserted into Turkey," he said.

Asia Bibi isolated in prison over security fears
[DAWN] Asia Bibi, a Christian woman on death row for blasphemy, has been put in isolation over fears of attacks by vigilantes enraged over a high-profile ruling in another blasphemy case that moderates said struck a blow against religious extremism.

Prison officials and rights activists said this week that they were concerned for Asia Bibi's life due to the security threat and her worsening health.

The move comes after "genuine" threats to her life were issued in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that upheld the death sentence for Mumtaz Qadri, the killer of former Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

governor Salman Taseer, who sought blasphemy law reform in a separate, high-profile case.

The mother-of-five, whose plight has prompted prayers from the Vatican, has been on death row since she was convicted in 2010 of committing blasphemy during an argument with a Muslim woman over a bowl of water.

She was placed in solitary confinement last week at the women's prison in the city of Multan, an official there told AFP.

Blasphemy is a hugely sensitive issue in Pakistain. The country has never executed anyone on the charge -- but anyone convicted, or even just accused, of insulting Islam risks a violent and bloody death at the hands of vigilantes.

U.N. urges Iraq's feuding Kurds to respect democracy
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Political parties in Iraq's Kurdish region, whose president's mandate expired in August, should respect democratic principles, the top U.N. envoy said Wednesday.

Jan Kubis' warning came after a week that saw protests against regional president Massud Barzani turn violent and the leading opposition party kicked out of government.

What started as demonstrations over unpaid salaries in regions dominated by the opposition to Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party escalated into protests demanding he step down.

At least four people were killed, dozens maimed and local offices of the KDP in several southern towns were burnt down.

"Perpetrators of these acts of violence should be quickly brought to justice, following due judicial process," Kubis, U.N. chief the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon's representative in Iraq, said in a statement.

But he also stressed that all parties in the northern autonomous region, a key partner in the global fight against the Islamic State

Restrictions on gun permits are being eased, especially for former security officials, as a measure meant to help counter the wave of terror attacks, Israeli officials said.

"In light of the security situation, I have decided to make it easier to obtain a gun permit," Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said Tuesday.

"In recent weeks, many citizens helped the Israel Police neutralize bandidos forces of Evil carrying out attacks. Citizens trained in the use of firearms are a force multiplier in the struggle against terror," he added.

Under the new policy, all IDF officers above the rank of 2nd lieutenant and non-commissioned officers from the rank of first sergeant and up can obtain a permit, even if they hold those ranks in the reserves. Parallel ranks in the police and other security services may do the same.

The decision makes private handgun ownership accessible to a broader range of ranks than previous restrictions.

Erdan also ordered gun permits be granted to graduates of certain elite units in the security services, as well as certain government security courses, including those that train the security details of ministers and government institutions.

Some municipalities where officials say the danger of terror attacks is heightened will be allowed to give out special gun licenses to residents to fill gaps in the distribution of civilian gun carriers. One example cited by officials is teachers in the ultra-Orthodox schools of Jerusalem; the ultra-Orthodox community is a target for terrorism, but few qualify for a gun permit based on a security background.

Gun carriers are also required under the new policy to fire their weapons at a licensed shooting range at least once per year.

Dozens of Paleostinian terror attacks have struck Israeli towns since the beginning of the month. In many cases, residents and passersby stopped the attacks by tackling the bandidos forces of Evil to the ground or shooting them.

Israel could stop returning bodies of Palestinian attackers killed by security forces to their families
[Independent] Israel's internal security minister has said that the bodies of Palestinian attackers killed by the security services should not be returned to their families for burial.

Gilad Erdan's proposal came as the Security Cabinet approved powers for police to close off Arab and Palestinian areas of Jerusalem, destroy attackers' homes, confiscate their property and revoke permanent residency rights.

The public security minister claimed that funeral processions for people killed while attempting to harm Israelis turn into "an exhibition of support for terror and incitement to murder".

"We must not allow that," he added. "We must do everything so that the terrorist won't be able to merit honour and ceremonies after conducting an attack."

Mr Erdan proposed that offenders instead be buried quietly at military cemeteries within Israel's borders.

It was unclear whether Muslim burial rites would be respected, which stipulate that people are buried as quickly as possible, bathed and wrapped in white, with their bodies facing Mecca.

The UK's minister for the Middle East, Tobias Elwood, urged all parties to refrain from violence and called on Israeli and Palestinian leaders to "avoid measures which could further fuel tensions".

A spokesperson for the Israeli Embassy told The Independent that Mr Erdan's proposal was not yet "official Israeli policy".

Thousands of people have attended funerals for both Israelis and Palestinians killed in weeks of worsening violence, turning some processions into angry protests.

Hundreds attended the funeral held today for Moataz Zawahra, a 28-year-old Palestinian man killed by Israeli forces during clashes in Bethlehem on Tuesday.

His body was carried through the streets by mourners in a huge procession before the ensuing protests devolved into more conflict with troops, with some Palestinians throwing rocks as they were hit with tear gas and stun grenades.

Muhannad Halabi, the 19-year-old who stabbed two ultra-Orthodox Jewish men to death in Jerusalem on 3 October after claiming the "third intifada has begun", was also mourned by thousands near Ramallah earlier this month.

Tuesday was the worst day of violence in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories since tensions erupted in September.

Three Israelis and three Palestinians, including two attackers, were killed and many more were injured in stabbings, shootings, rock-throwing and clashes with security forces on the day.

In Jerusalem this afternoon, a "terrorist" was shot dead near the walls of the Old City after an attempted stabbing.

A police spokesperson said there were no other injuries in the incident at Damascus Gate, where there were two other attacks on Saturday.

Eight Israelis have died in a string of stabbings, shootings and the stoning of a car, while 30 Palestinians - including 13 identified by Israel as attackers - have been killed in the last two weeks.

#1  actually, a "Nacht und Nebel" approach to the palis might work. Knife attacks are not reported in the news. Attacker bodies are quietly disposed of (cremated & scattered at sea). Then the immediate families of the attackers are quietly "disappeared"

When the usual suspects raise the usual noise, a bland "I have no idea what you are screeching about" & stonewall. Then start picking off and "Disappearing" the more noxious & vulnerable NGO terrorist sympathizers, Chilean-Pinochet-dirty war style.

Dunno if the Israelis could bring themselves to do it, but based on the track record it would work.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Russian Military Uses Syria as Proving Ground
Long piece at the NYT. A few choice paragraphs to whet your appetite:
Taken together, the operations reflect what officials and analysts described as a little-noticed — and still incomplete — modernization that has been underway in Russia for several years, despite strains on the country’s budget. And that, as with Russia’s intervention in neighboring Ukraine, has raised alarms in the West.

The capabilities on display in Syria — and before that in Ukraine — are the fruits of Russia’s short, victorious war in Georgia in 2008. Although Russia crushed the American-trained forces of Georgia’s government, driving them from areas surrounding the breakaway region of South Ossetia, Russia’s ground and air forces performed poorly.

In the war’s aftermath, Mr. Putin, then serving as prime minister, began a military modernization program that focused not only on high-profile procurement of new weapons — new aircraft, warships and missiles — but also on a less-noticed overhaul of training and organization that included a reduction in the bloated officer corps and the development of a professional corps of noncommissioned officers.

The Russian advancements go beyond new weaponry, reflecting an increase in professionalism and readiness. Russia set up its main operations at an air base near Latakia in northwestern Syria in a matter of three weeks, dispatching more than four dozen combat planes and helicopters, scores of tanks and armored vehicles, rocket and artillery systems, air defenses and portable housing for as many as 2,000 troops. It was Moscow’s largest deployment to the Middle East since the Soviet Union deployed in Egypt in the 1970s.

“What continues to impress me is their ability to move a lot of stuff real far, real fast,” Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges, the commander of United States Army forces in Europe, said in an interview.

Russia is not only bringing some of its most advanced hardware to the fight, it has also deployed large field kitchens and even dancers and singers to entertain the troops — all signs that Moscow is settling in for the long haul, American analysts said.

“They brought the whole package,” said Jeffrey White, a former Middle East analyst with the Defense Intelligence Agency now at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. “It showed me they could deploy a decent-sized expeditionary force.”

Lavrov: Shelling of Russian Embassy in Damascus 'Act of Terror'
[ALMANAR.LB] Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday described the shelling of Moscow's embassy in Damascus as an "act of terror" aimed at intimidating those who support Moscow's bombing campaign in Syria.

"It is a clear act of terror meant to scare supporters of fighting terrorism," Lavrov told news hounds in Moscow, after two rockets struck the Russian embassy compound.

Nobody was killed during the incident which took place as some 300 people were rallying near the embassy in support of Russia's recent intervention in Syria.

Demonstrators had been waving Russian flags and holding up large photographs of Russian President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
"We are counting on the perpetrators being found and that measures be taken to prevent such acts in the future," Lavrov said, adding Moscow would investigate the incident along with Syrian authorities.

Russian late last month launched a bombing campaign in Syria to eliminate all gangs operating against the Syrian government.

France's Syria Strikes 'May Have Killed French Jihadists'
[ALMANAR.LB] French air strikes in Syria may have killed French jihadists, a source close to Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Monday, although the defense ministry said the information could not yet be confirmed.

The strikes Thursday night targeted a training camp for Takfiri

group, ISIL (so-called Islamic State

in Iraq and Levant) in the conflict-torn country -- the second time that French jets have targeted ISIL camps in Syria.

"The strikes have killed jihadists. There might well be French jihadists among them," said the source in Valls's delegation during a visit to Jordan as part of a Middle East tour.

"A figure of six dead was announced, probably by a Syrian non-governmental organization," he said.

The defense ministry acknowledged Monday that French citizens or French speakers may have been among those killed in the camp, which reportedly lies five kilometers (three miles) southwest of Raqa, the Syrian town widely considered to be ISIL's center of power.

But the ministry added it could not "confirm with accuracy anything related to this bombing."

"We know that this camp aimed to train fighters to come and attack Europe and La Belle France," the ministry told AFP.

Valls himself did not confirm any French deaths.

"Our responsibility is to strike Daesh [Islamic State] and we will continue to do so regardless of their nationalities," he said in the Jordanian capital Amman, using an Arabic acronym for ISIL.

"The terrorists, from that point of view, don't have passports."

Iran Broadcasts Footage of Underground Missile Base
[AnNahar] Iranian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
broadcast unprecedented footage Wednesday of a deep underground tunnel packed with missiles and launcher units, which officials said could be used if "enemies make a mistake".

The pictures were released just three days after Iran tested a new long-range missile that the United States said may have breached a U.N. Security Council resolution.

The footage also came a day after Iran's parliament approved the country's July 14 nuclear deal with six world powers.

Iranian officials have said the nuclear agreement will not affect its military forces, particularly its ballistic missile program.

The missile launch and underground footage followed pressure from politicians to prove the military had not been weakened by the deal.

The tunnel, hundreds of meters (yards) long and about 10 meters high, was filled with missiles and hardware.

Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Islamic Theocratic Republic's Revolutionary Guards' aerospace division, said numerous such tunnels exist across the country at a depth of 500 meters.

"The Islamic republic's long-range missile bases are stationed and ready under the high mountains in all the country's provinces and cities," he said, according to the Guards' website.

The commander said the missiles were ready to be launched from all over Iran, on the order of "the supreme commander-in-chief", Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

"This is a sample of our massive missile bases," he said, adding that "a new and advanced generation of long-range liquid and solid fuel missiles" would start to replace the current weapons next year.

The commander seemed to suggest the show of strength was in response to Western powers, especially the U.S., which despite the nuclear deal, have said options against Iran, including the military one, remain on the table.

"Those who pin hope on options on the table, should only have a look at the Islamic republic's army options under the table."

Hajizadeh said Iran would not start any war but "if enemies make a mistake, missile bases will erupt like a volcano from the depth of earth."

The U.S. on Tuesday said Tehran may have breached a Security Council resolution during Sunday's test of the new Imad missile.

White House front man Josh Earnest said there were "strong indications" that Tehran "did violate U.N. Security Council resolutions that pertain to Iran's ballistic missile activities."

Under a resolution passed days after the nuclear deal was reached, Iran was barred by the Security Council from developing missiles "designed to carry nuclear warheads."

However the White House insisted the launch would have no impact on the nuclear agreement which is due to be formally implemented by the end of this year.

Top Cuban general, key forces in Syria to aid Assad, Russia, sources say
Cuban military operatives reportedly have been spotted in Syria, where sources believe they are advising President Bashar al-Assad's soldiers and may be preparing to man Russian-made tanks to aid Damascus in fighting rebel forces backed by the U.S.

Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias, head of Cuba's Armed Forces, recently visited Syria to lead a group of Cuban military personnel joining forces with Russia in their support of Assad, according to information received by the University of Miami's Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies.
A veteran of the Cuban effort in Angola no doubt.
On Wednesday, a U.S. official confirmed to Fox News that Cuban paramilitary and special forces units are on the ground in Syria, citing evidence from intelligence reports. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Cuban troops may have been training in Russia and may have arrived in Syria on Russian planes.

An Arab military officer at the Damascus airport reportedly witnessed two Russian planes arrive there with Cuban military personnel on board. When the officer questioned the Cubans, they told him they were there to assist Assad because they are experts at operating Russian tanks, according to Jaime Suchlicki, the institute's executive director.

"It doesn't surprise me," Suchlicki told FoxNews.com, noting Russia's long history of supplying military equipment to Cuba as well as Cuba's assistance in Soviet-led operations in Africa the 1970's.

"They have a very close relationship," Suchlicki said. "The Russians have been training the Cubans for years and supplying them with all sorts of military equipment."

Syria's bloody civil war is in its fourth year and has so far cost an estimated 250,000 people their lives and sparked a humanitarian crisis as displaced refugees flee the embattled nation. The U.S. has called for the ouster of dictator Assad, and is supporting a rebel group known as the Free Syrian Army. But ISIS and Al Qaeda offshoot Al Nusra are also present in Syria, battling Assad, the FSA and each other. Russia, Iran and now apparently Cuba are helping Assad in his bid to maintain power.

Cuba's military is ranked the world's 110th most powerful by the site globalfirepower.com. While small, the Cuban military is "very well-trained," according to Suchlicki, who said their presence in Syria is a "departure from what the U.S. expected."

President Obama earlier this year removed Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, seeking to normalize relations between the two countries. The U.S. cut off diplomatic relations with Cuba in 1961 after Fidel Castro's revolution. The U.S. spent decades trying to either actively overthrow the Cuban government or isolate the island, including toughening the economic embargo first imposed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The U.S. Embassy in Havana reopened in July 2015.

"Yes, there are those who want to turn back the clock and double down on a policy of isolation," Obama said at the time, "but it's long past time for us to realize that this approach doesn't work. It hasn't worked for 50 years."

"This is a historic step forward in our efforts to normalize relations with the Cuban government and people, and begin a new chapter with our neighbors in the Americas," Obama said in July from the White House Rose Garden.

The U.S. official described Cuban's involved in Syria as similar to the "Cuba-Angola arrangement" -- a reference to Cuban troops operating on behalf of the Soviets in several central African countries in the 1970's. Cuba also sent troops to Syria in 1973 to support them in the Yom Kippur War against Israel and deployed officers to observe Israeli military tactics.

The official could not confirm whether Cuba's top general is in Syria, or if Cuban forces are manning Russian tanks provided to Assad by Russia.

"If this information about the presence of Cuban troops in Syria now is confirmed, it would indicate that General Raul Castro is more interested in supporting his allies, Russia and Syria, than in continuing to normalize relations with the U.S.," the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies said in a statement Tuesday.

"Raul Castro has expressed publicly his support for the Syrian regime and his solidarity with Russian and Iranian objectives in the Middle East," the group said. "This new Cuban internationalism reaffirms one more time that the Castro's brothers are more interested in their role in the world in opposition to the U.S. than in modernizing Cuba and helping the Cuban people rise above their current misery."
