[SultanKnish] Ben Carson’s comments that armed Jews might have saved lives in the Holocaust by resisting Nazi terror have been met with condescending mockery from the left. The Jewish establishment, a network of wealthy non-profit organizations that claim to represent Jews without ever being chosen by them and while working against their interests, has reacted in the same way as their liberal brethren.
But this establishment has forgotten that it was built on providing guns to Jews.
Historical revisionism is what the left does best. American Jewish history in the last century is a revisionist history in which the heroes are the “establishment”. The truth lies buried in old papers and lost documents. And it’s a deeply compelling truth of how the left suppressed Jewish self-defense.
The Jewish Defense Association was the first time that uptown establishment German Jews and downtown Eastern Jewish immigrants came together. The JDA’s goal had little in common with the empty rubber chicken dinner agendas of what the establishment that grew out of it would become.
Instead the Jewish Defense Association’s mission was simple. Buy guns for Jews.
Its agenda, as reported by the New York Times was, “New massacres are preparing. Our people must be possessed of arms to defend themselves and their honor.”
The year was 1905. The slow bloody beginning of the Russian Revolution was underway. Much like the Syrian Civil War, brutal militias aligned with different factions from the left to the right would arise out of the violence. Like the Christians in Syria, the Jews were an isolated minority. Xenophobia allowed both Communists and Czarists to score populist points by massacring the Jews in violent pogroms.
The Jewish Defense Association responded with a call to arms. Its motto took a part of Hillel’s credo, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me.” Its membership encompassed the left and the right, Zionists and anti-Zionists, religious and secular Jews.
A march of 200,000 Jews to Union Square included 5,000 former Russian soldiers, the volunteer Zion Guards in blue uniforms carrying rifles and the young men of the Manhattan Rifles, begun in the Lower East Side’s Educational Alliance as the Alliance Cadets, which had been formed in imitation of the Jewish Lads Brigade, a group that had put thousands of Jewish boys in the UK through military training. Not to mention history I hadn't learnt in my Israeli- and Persian-dominated Hebrew school in the 1960s and '70s. But it does perhaps explain why my father, who until age 15 had gone to Latvian Jewish day schools, had taken mandatory military training as part of his coursework, and was good enough to be tapped as a shooting instructor for Haganah once he and his mother emigrated to what was then British Mandate Palestine.

In the first few years of the 20th Century, they had lost their Republics, their livestock, farms, land, and many of their families had been relocated to vast kamps where thousands perished. They eventually surrendered their guns as well. Who could have done such a thing ?

Yes, employment is still penalized by both the State and the Federal Governments. This yoke will only be lifted when everyone finally works for the state. Our betters in Washington continue to feverishly working toward this reality.

When written, "well-regulated" meant "well-supplied". I blame the change in meaning of "regulated" on the steam engine.

I would answer thus:
Good laws (that is laws that work as intended) are backed by statistics not passion 'must do something' rhetoric.
1. Statistics have proven that the more guns = less crime.
2. Mass killings have just about all occured in gun-free zones.
3. Gun control efforts always attempt to disarm the law abiding but do nothing to get guns from criminals.

Apologies for bluntly exposing your ignorance but there is no "gun license" requirement for US citizens. In other words, Americans aren't required to ask permission to excersise their constitutional rights - guns or otherwise.

Whoever answered the questions posed above about gun control is very poorly informed.
First, Our 2nd Amendment to our Constitution needs to be read properly. There are two clauses in the 2nd Amendment. The first clause is a prefatory clause to introduce the reason behind the operative clause. The anti-gun liberals hate that comma between the two clauses.
The "gun lobby" is funded to express the views of the people who own firearms civilly. The alternative is not desired by hundreds of millions of firearm owners.
We do not have a higher rate of deaths than comparable countries. Overall the US is in 44th place as far as gun deaths. The 43 that have higher gun deaths than the US all have a total ban on firearms. If the black on black murders are removed from the US total firearms deaths in the US, we are one of the safest countries in the world. The way the question is put forth above states its own conclusion. Kind of like, "When will you mother get out of prison".
I have never lived in a state that required a license to buy a firearm. The license requirement in itself would be an infringement of our rights.
In actuality we or all able bodied citizens in the US are supposed to have what would be considered a "service rifle" and if called upon we should be ready to defend our country. Obama has changed the oath of Citizenship for Muslims so Muslims don't have to swear to defend the US.The name service rifle implies many things but primarily it refers to military grade (durable) weapons for which the US stocks ammunition and parts. This would allow the US to almost instantly field a massive Army of trained riflemen. This is why our military sells obsolete rifles to Americans. Further Americans have purchased military rifles from other countries. Did you ever wonder where the 18,000,000 German Mausers went? How about the 15,000,000 British Enfields or all of the M-1 Garands, M-1 Carbines, Japanese Arisakas that were all used in WW-2.
Frankly, I am very proud of all of the law abiding armed citizens who have decided to use the ballot box for a regime change.

Also keep in mind that "gun deaths" also include suicides (61%) and death by cop (Numbers not kept by govt.). Even removing death by cop, gun violence statistics should be reduced by almost 2/3. Granted some suicides may not have taken place without the convenience of a gun, but I bet it's a statistically insignificant number. Who cares about facts though. Let's just keep the narrative going that America is a Wild West shootout where we are lucky to survive from day to day.

I live in Vermont. Were it not for three cities, this would be a deeply conservative state. But carpetbaggers gonna be carpetbaggers. Vermont has the best gun ownership and carry laws in the country.

It sounds kind of crazy to say that foreign aid often hurts, rather than helps, poor people in poor countries. Yet
that is what Angus Deaton, the newest winner of the Nobel Prize in economics, has argued. Giving people staff for nothing hurts them on the long run---who'd guessed it? I do think, it's interesting that these---perfectly commonsense ideas are beginning to gain traction now. Could it be that "first world" is getting tired of feeding the endless mouths of the third?
It tends to make the politicians handing out the loot feel they look good, and if some of it "accidentally" comes back to them after they leave office then who are they to turn down a grateful dictator?

Welfare tends to cause dependency. It many cases it's just easier to take the money, live a marginal existence, and then blame others for your plight. I don't see why it wouldn't be similar for nations.
Also, only a fool would give money to a corrupt government and expect the money to be used properly? The reason most of these nations are perpetually poor is because they have corrupt governments.
The US would be better off removing the restrictions on assassinations and subtly let a few know that they are on the list and probably should quietly retire to the south of France.

Among these is the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi ... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ... , one of the main perpetrators of sectarian carnage in the country, whose links with the 'IS-inspired' bandidosturbans have been disclosed by the police.
Others likely to be seduced by the IS model are disaffected elements from comparatively, or nominally, peaceful organizations aspiring to more 'robust' means of achieving their objectives.
It seems that even urban, educated youth are not immune, evidence of how Pak society as a whole has drifted to the right over the years.
Extremism is not static: if allowed to fester -- whether by design or by ill-considered policies -- it will spawn ever more radical versions of itself.
The trajectory of terrorism both in the international as well as the domestic arena is illustrative of this.
Many local outfits that began with state-sponsored jihadist objectives have displayed increasingly reactionary, even anti-state, tendencies.
Some, it seems, are still being tolerated, as long as they toe the line. If Pakistain is to definitively change course, there must be no room for such elements on its soil.

Despite vehement denials to the contrary, the world is slowly drifting into the reciprocal of its intended course. An administration that began its first term seeking a policy of reset with Russia wound up locked in a new Cold War with the Kremlin, facing off against it in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
What was supposed to be a Pacific Century has turned into an arms race between China and Japan. An administration which promised to build better relations with China is slowly being drawn, as if by a force-field into a showdown with Beijing over it's island bases in the South China Sea. Alarmed at China's de facto occupation of international waters, the USN has now been forced to plan freedom of navigation deployments to beard the dragon in its lair, a response perhaps too little and very probably too late.
...Conventional wisdom has had a pretty bad run these last 15 years. For that reason there is little purpose to trusting it further. Instead it might be better to predict a future based on observable trends rather than scenarios that politicians offer. fer. If those trends continue one would expect to see in 2025:
1. The self-destruction of the Muslim Middle East;
2. The rise of ethnic and national politics in Europe;
3. The widespread resurgence of religion and cultural identity as a consequence of (2);
4. Mass expulsions or segregation in large parts of the world to deconflict incompatible communities
5. Everyone packing personal weapons like the Wild West
6. The collapse of multi-ethnic countries into simplified pacts based around of national defense, with most social law generated by local communities and affinity groups;
7. One or more large regional wars with casualties in the tens of millions.
8. Several, possibly many WMD attacks on major cities involving radiological weapons, low yield nukes or biological agents.
9. The collapse of any realistic expectation of Peace on Earth, with the remaining hope of mankind vested in the new space frontier.
