-Lurid Crime Tales-
CBP records highest EVER annual number of migrants crossing southern border illegally - 2.37m - and that doesn't include the ones that got away!
  • In total, there were 227,547 encounters along the southwest land border in September, a 12 percent increase compared to August

  • By comparison there were 192,001 crossings in 2001, 57,674 in 2020 and 52, 546 in 2019 when then-President Trump had his own surge at the border

  • It means for the Fiscal Year ending September 30th, there was a total of 2,378,944 encounters

  • That far exceeded last year’s record of more than 1.7 million arrests

  • A large number of individuals fleeing failing authoritarian regimes in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba is contributing to increased numbers crossing the border

Libyan Policemen Injured after Escape Attempt
[LIBYAREVIEW] On Thursday, Libyan Ambulance and Emergency Service announced that two coppers of the Mizdah Security Directorate were maimed in a kaboom. This was after a prisoner detonated a hand grenade at a checkpoint, while being transferred to Gharyan prison.
"I thought YOU searched him?"
In a statement, the Libyan Ambulance Service confirmed that the officers were transferred to the Gharyan Hospital and Mizdah General Hospital for treatment.

Libya and the UN have been striving to turn the page on the violence that has wracked the country, since a 2011 NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...

...The late megalomaniac dictator of Libya, admired everywhere for his garish costumes, funny hats, harem of cutie bodyguards, and incoherent ravings. As far as is known, he is the only person who's ever declared jihad on Switzerland...
A ceasefire between eastern and western factions last year led to a Libyan unity government taking office in March. This had a mandate to lead the country to elections, which have been indefinitely delayed

Foreign powers have been pushing hard for Presidential elections to be held as soon as possible. The process has been beset by sharp disagreements over the legal basis for the vote.

At Least 50 Killed As Police Clash With Protesters In Chad

No fewer than 50 people have been killed while 300 injured as protest rocks Chad over a demand for a quicker transition to democratic rule.

The military-run Central African nation has been in crisis since the April 2021 death of President Idriss Deby, who ruled with an iron fist for three decades.

His son, Mahamat Idriss Deby, seized power in the immediate aftermath and initially promised an 18-month transition to elections, but on October 1 he announced they would be pushed back by two years.

Opposition and civil society groups called for the protests on Thursday, which would have marked the end of an initially agreed 18-month transition period.

Hundreds erupted into the streets in N’Djamena, Chad’s capital, where police clashed with protesters demanding an end to military rule as a democratic change turn violent mostly peaceful.

Rooters reports that Prime Minister Saleh Kebzabo said the government was compiling casualties from what he described as an armed insurrection.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
groups say unarmed civilians were massacred as security forces brutally cracked down on demonstrations in the capital N'Djamena and several other cities.

The government banned them, citing security reasons.

But demonstrators showed up early in the morning, barricaded roads and torched the party headquarters of the new prime minister.

"What happened today is an armed popular uprising to seize power by force and those responsible for this violence will face justice," Mr Kebzabo said.

He was an opponent of Mr Deby's regime and was named prime minister of a new "unity government" last week.

"The demonstrators had firearms and they are considered rebels," Mr Kebzabo said.

"The security forces responded only in self-defence."

The International Federation for Human Rights and its partner organizations in Chad said the protests were violent mostly peacefully repressed by security forces and that cases of live gunfire, torture and arbitrary arrests had been reported.

Amnesia Amnesty International researcher Abdoulaye Diarra said security forces used live rounds on protesters, based on witness accounts and analysis of photos and video from the day.

Chadian journalist Oredje Narcisse was among the dead, his brother said.

Other confirmed victims included a policeman who was fatally maimed in festivities, a 28-year-old protester who was shot in the neck, and Chadian musician Ray's Kim, who died in hospital.

"It's clear that an impartial investigation is needed to determine if protesters resorted to looting and violence and if security forces unlawfully resorted to lethal force across the country," Human Rights Watch Central Africa director Lewis Mudge said.

Riots have been intermittent in Chad since Mr Deby seized power last year, but Thursday's protest appeared to be the bloodiest.

The government declared a state of emergency and a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am, although the president had already declared a state of emergency on Wednesday due to catastrophic floods.

France: After Murder of Schoolgirl Lola in Paris by Illegal Algerian Migrant With Deportation Order, Data Reveals Only 0.2% of Algerians Are Successfully Deported
Hattip Gates of Vienna. Responding to this story from yesterday.
[RMX] Two Algerians were charged over the weekend for the murder and rape of Lola, a 12-year-old French schoolgirl, and despite the main female perpetrator having a deportation order, she was never sent back to her country. However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
official data from the French government shows that the Algerian murder suspect is one of many who have avoided deportation, with the case showcasing how despite promises from the Macron government, French authorities have been unable or unwilling to enforce immigration law.

In fact, of the 7,731 Algerians set for deportation between July to January 2021, only 22 have actually been sent back to their home countries, a rate of a mere 0.2 percent. The overall deportation rate for those with deportation orders during the same period is only 5.7 percent, according to French news media outlet BFMTV, which utilized official government data in its report.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan Election Commission Disqualifies Imran Khan from Holding Public Office
[Khaama(Afghanistan)] The Pakistain’s election commission disqualified ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...
from being a member of parliament, according to sources, after finding him guilty of "corrupt practices" in a unanimous decision.

This came days after Khan’s Pakistain Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party managed to secure six out of eight National Assembly seats in the crucial by-election on Sunday.

Khan’s Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI) party immediately rejected Friday’s ruling, challenging the commission’s jurisdiction of delivering such a verdict, as Aljazeera reported. It said it would file an appeal to the Islamabad High Court and called on supporters to take to the streets.

Speaking to news hounds after the verdict, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry called the commission’s decision "embarrassing" and a "slap in the face" of Pakistain’s people.

"This verdict is not an attack on Imran Khan only. It is an attack on Pakistain’s constitution and its people," he said, as Aljazeera wrote.

CALL FOR FAIR AND FREE ELECTIONS
Earlier, the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) activists and supporter erupted into the streets in nearly all major cities of the country against runaway inflation, as the PTI Chairman Imran Khan warned any bid to rig the election would push the country towards anarchy.

The major protests were held at Islamabad’s F-9 Park, Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
’s Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Lahore’s Liberty Chowk, Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
’s Ghanta Ghar Chowk, Rawalpindi’s Commercial Market, Multan
...Home of the Multan Sultans...
’s Shah Abdullah Chowk and Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistain's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire...
’s Hasht Nagari Gate, including some other cities of the country.

Khan addressed the public gatherings through video-link from Bani Gala, telling his supporters that he would soon give a call for peaceful agitation, which would end only with the announcement of an election date, as The News reported.

The PTI chairman warned that if the present rulers further stayed in power, they would dump all the state institutions as they had already buried NAB and FIA, according to reports, emphasizing the situation would deteriorate in the country if general elections were not free and fair.

"The direction in which the country is moving with exports plunging by 10 per cent and remittances falling, I fear that we are heading on the path of Sri Lanka, which did not have money to buy oil," said Khan.

In April, Pakistain’s Prime Minister Imran Khan was ousted from power after losing a no-confidence vote in his leadership, where the opposition parties brought a motion against him for bad governance and economic mismanagement.

Pakistan witnesses 51pc increase in terrorist attacks in a year
[TheNationPK] 433 people killed, 719 maimed in country since Taliban
...Arabic for students...
seized power in Afghanistan last year.

The perils of Taliban-led regime in Kabul have become unmistakably clear for Pakistain as the country has witnessed an unbelievable 51 per cent increase in the number of terrorist attacks in a single year since the krazed killer group seized power in Afghanistan in August last year.

According to details, as many as 433 people were killed and 719 maimed in 250 terrorist attacks in Pakistain between 15 August 2021 and 14 August 2022.

In the corresponding year between 15 August 2020 and 14 August 2021, the country witnessed 165 attacks that killed 294 people and injured 598 others.

"The mindless jubilation over Taliban victory is now turning into a rude shock because the evolving security situation under the erratic Taliban rule indicates Pakistain is about to face yet another ordeal viz-aviz terrorism," according to one of the findings.

The issue quoting a United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
report says that there is no sign that Taliban regime is taking steps to limit the activities of foreign terrorist groups on Afghan soil. The UN report also notes that foreign terrorist groups based in Afghanistan take the Taliban victory as a motivation to disseminate their propaganda in Central and South Asia, and globally.

Key terror outfits with active presence in Afghanistan include al-Qaeda, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP), and Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Khorasan (IS-K). So far, the Taliban have acted only against the IS-K because it actively challenges the group.

The issue underlines that there is a wave of fear and panic among residents of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the reported return of TTP murderous Moslems from Afghanistan in recent months.

The publication quoting the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says that more than 300,000 Afghans have fled to Pakistain since the Taliban takeover. The figure confronts Pak authorities’ claim that about 60,000 to 70,000 Afghans have entered Pakistain since then.

Iraq
Germany extends its military mission in Kurdistan Region, Iraq
[Rudaw] The German parliament on Friday decided to extend its military mandate in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, continuing its operation to train and advise armed forces in the country against the threat of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

The German government decided on January 12 to end its military mission in Syria but keep up to 500 soldiers in Iraq until the end of October 2022. The Bundestag convened on Friday to extend that mandate for an extra year.

The motion was approved after 535 MPs voted in favor, 104 voted against, and five MPs abstained in the roll-call vote.

"The plan is to send up to 500 Bundeswehr [German army] soldiers, as before, to train and advise the regular Iraqi armed forces and security forces and to take on tasks such as air transport, sea and airspace surveillance as well as reconnaissance and situational awareness," read a statement from the German parliament.

According to the new extension, the German army will remain in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq until October 31, 2023.

"This is an important task. The West stands by those who fight against ISIS," Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, chair of the defense committee in the German parliament, told Rudaw’s Znar Shino on Friday, stressing that supporting those who fight against the bad boy group is in the best interests of Germany and Europe’s security.

The chairwoman said that the mission will proceed as before with no changes, adding that German soldiers are remaining in the country based on Iraq’s wishes.

Germany has been an essential member of the global coalition against ISIS. The combat mission of the Coalition ended in Iraq at the end of the last year, but it continues to provide consultation and training to the Iraqi security forces and Peshmerga. The German army has been mostly based in the Kurdistan Region.

Masrour Barzani Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) welcomed the German parliament's decision late Friday, saying "We have been drawn together by a shared resolve to not let tyranny take root in our region."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
3 months after US package for Palestinians unveiled, most moves still facing hurdles
Consistent with the current administration’s general follow-through. Enjoy the rest of his term, guys.
[IsraelTimes] With measures dependent on follow through from Israel and other allies, Paleostinians are still waiting on 4G, East Jerusalem hospital aid, joint economic panel and 24/7-run Allenby.
And a pony
The Paleostinian Authority hoped for more from Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant. Just look at the competent way he dumped Afghanistan...
when he visited the region last July, but the US president did not come empty-handed.

While Ramallah had pushed for strong US diplomatic engagement on efforts toward a negotiated two-state solution, Biden instead announced a series of more interim measures aimed at improving Paleostinian lives.

The package of steps announced by the White House included a donation to the East Jerusalem Hospital Network, the roll-out of 4G digital connectivity for the West Bank and Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, relaunching the Israeli-Paleostinian Joint Economic Committee, and expanding the operation of the Allenby crossing between the West Bank and Jordan to 24 hours a day.

The package fell short of fulfilling Biden’s pledge to reopen diplomatic missions for the Paleostinians in Washington and Jerusalem, but one PA official acknowledged at the time that the steps were more than what Ramallah had expected.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, nonetheless expressed skepticism that the US would be able to follow through, given that most of the measures required cooperation from Israel, which had avoided endorsing the White House’s July announcement.

That skepticism was at least partially warranted. Three months later, most of the measures announced are still waiting to come to fruition, though hopes remain high they will overcome bureaucratic hurdles and other hiccups that have kept the promises from full implementation.
