Talibs Clash with Pak Border Guards in Paktika: Two Taliban Gunnies and Five Pak Soldiers Killed
[8am] Local sources in Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
have reported that two Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
fighters and five Pak border guards were killed as a result of festivities along the Angur-Ada border in the province.

Reliable sources confirmed that the unexpected confrontation between the Taliban fighters and Pak border guards took place last night in the Barmal district of Paktika province.

Additionally, four Taliban fighters sustained injuries during the clash, according to the sources.

One of the casualties identified by the sources is a prominent member of the Taliban named Sibghatullah Takal.

The fighting, characterized by sporadic exchanges, persisted until this afternoon, with both sides currently maintaining their positions.

Notably, the Taliban have refrained from issuing any statements regarding this incident, and the exact cause of the clash remains uncertain.

It is worth mentioning that prior to this incident, the Taliban had previously engaged in festivities with Pak border guards at the Torkham, Spin Boldak, and Dand-e-Patan gates, located in the provinces of Nangarhar

Security Forces Seize Weapons and Ammunition in Afghanistan’s Paktika
[KhaamaPress] According to a statement released by the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) on Monday, Afghan cops in the country’s eastern Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
province have confiscated significant weapons and ammunition.

The confiscated weapons and ammunition, according to the statement, include thousands of bullets and bombs, 35 rocket shells, four mines, 14 hand grenades, and some other unlawfully preserved munitions. They were found during operations in the province’s Yusufkhil and Janikhil districts.

Earlier this month, the Afghan cops found a huge arm and ammunition in the northern Takhar province of Afghanistan, according to the provincial officials.

The confiscated ammunitions and weapons include three pieces of Kalashnikovs, a PK machine gun, an M16, a rocket launcher, and several other explosive and nonbombs.

No mention of arrests was made in the statement. The Taliban

Daily Evacuation Brief June 27, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TALIBAN/PAKISTAN BORDER CLASH, 7 REPUTEDLY KILLED – The Taliban clashed with Pakistan’s border security forces Sunday night in the Barmal District of Paktia Province. The clashes reportedly continued until mid-afternoon on Monday (although, sporadically). Local sources said that 2 Taliban security forces members were killed and another 4 were injured. 5 Pakistani border security forces members were said to have been killed in the clashes. Several accounts of the fighting are circulating on social media, no official confirmation has been given.

  • HACKING GROUP IN IRAN RELEASES LATEST TROVE OF DOCUMENTS AFTER 4TH MAJOR INTRUSION – GhyamSarnegouni, considered to be the most hardcore anti-regime hacking operation has claimed to have penetrated the government’s servers and has released multiple documents from senior Iranian leaders and gathered from sensitive government departments. While many hacking groups are operating both for and against Tehran, GhyamSarnegouni is considered the most dangerous and has demonstrated a level of access that likely makes intelligence agencies jealous. The group announced its formation in January of 2022 and has successfully hacked national broadcasts, the national CCTV camera system and defaced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs websites. Many have suspected the group is tied to the anti-regime MEK group in Albania and point to the raid on the MEK refugee camp earlier this month as proof positive the hackers are working with the exiled critics. As the talks with the US over the nuclear program continue, many are concerned that the group will release damaging information that could derail an agreement.

  • TAJIKISTAN EXPRESSES CONCERNS OVER CONCENTRATED TERROR GROUPS IN AFGHANISTAN AT MOST RECENT SCO MEETING – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization met on 21 June and Afghanistan played a central role in the discussions. However, member state Tajikistan reputedly told the other delegates that it had never witnessed as large a concentration of terror groups on any of its borders in its history. The Tajikistani envoy listed 6 terrorist organizations who, he said, pose a cross-border threat to SCO members.

  • GDI AGENTS RESCUE KIDNAPPING VICTIM AND ARREST 3 KIDNAPPERS IN KABUL – The General Directorate of Intelligence announced that its agents had successfully apprehended 3 kidnappers belonging to an organized criminal network in Kabul. The agents had freed a victim who the kidnappers had been holding for ransom. The GDI and Taliban police have been effective in dealing with many of the kidnapping crimes in the country and appear to have made a priority of stamping out the crime.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Nangarhar: Sources say that 2 TTP militants were wounded in an IED blast near the border on Monday. The circumstances of the attack and who may have been responsible are currently unknown.

NEXT 24 HOURS
DEPENDING ON PAKISTAN’S RESPONSE TO THE RECENT BORDER SKIRMISH, THERE COULD BE MORE CLASHES ALONG THE DURAND LINE – Not enough information is available to draw any conclusions about a possible recurrence of fighting between border security elements in Paktia. However, we felt it prudent to warn at-risk Afghans who may be in the area to be watchful and avoid prolonged contact with Taliban elements. Historically, these flare-ups have often resulted in a second exchange of fire.

Libya Hands over ISIS Fighters’ Wives and Children to Tunisia

On Monday, Libyan security forces handed over family members of IS bully boys, to Tunisia. This included four women and nine children,
...only two per? They’re letting down the team...
and brings attention to the uncertain fate of remaining non-Libyan IS members within the country and their current incarceration status.

Mustafa Abdel-Kabir, the Head of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, stated that "no fewer than ten Tunisian women wedded to IS bully boys, are presently incarcerated in Mitiga Prison, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, following rulings issued against them."

Abdel-Kabir called on Tunisian authorities to "liaise and coordinate with Libyan officials, advocating for the imprisoned Tunisian women to serve out the remainder of their sentences in Tunisia, under the combined oversight of both countries."

He also provided additional details, indicating these women "have received prison sentences ranging from six to sixteen years, and are accompanied by nineteen children. It would be in the children’s best interest to reside in their home country, under the protection of its official institutions."

As concerns intensify about the destiny of foreign IS holy warriors and their families in Libya, these recent transfers and proposals could outline the future strategy for dealing with such intricate situations.

Over the past years, countries around the world have been grappling with complex issues related to the fate of citizens who joined bad boy groups in conflict zones abroad and their families.

In Libya, which has been in a state of conflict and political transition since the 2011 revolution that toppled Muammar Qadaffy
...The late megalomaniac dictator of Libya, admired everywhere for his garish costumes, funny hats, harem of cutie bodyguards, and incoherent ravings. As far as is known, he is the only person who's ever declared jihad on Switzerland...
, the issue is particularly complex. Various bad boy groups, including IS have operated within the country’s borders, attracting fighters from around the world, including Tunisia.

With the weakening of IS and the gradual restoration of government control in various parts of Libya, questions have arisen about what to do with the families of these fighters, many of whom are not Libyan citizens.

In Tunisia’s case, it has been estimated that thousands of its citizens left to join bad boy groups in Syria, Iraq, and Libya over the past decade. The country is now facing the challenge of handling returnees, including not just fighters but also their families.

This has raised a host of legal, security, and humanitarian issues. The children of these fighters, in particular, present a unique challenge, as they are often viewed both as victims and as potential security risks.

The recent transfer of women and kiddies from Libya to Tunisia is part of an effort to address these complex issues, which involve balancing considerations of justice, security, humanitarian concern, and international law. The broader international community is closely watching these developments, as the lessons learned could inform the handling of similar situations elsewhere.

Arabia
Ma'rib Tribes threaten to violently expel Islah from province
[HODHODYEMENNEWS] The largest tribes of Ma’rib province vowed on Sunday to expel the Islah factions from their areas in the oil-rich province.

In a statement, the tribes of Wadi Obeida condemned the recent attack launched by the Islah forces on tribal villages in the valley district. They affirmed that their areas have become unsafe due to what they described as aggressive attacks by the Islah factions.

In an explicit threat to expel the Islah factions from the Obeida district, the tribes stressed that they will take strict measures to defend their areas and properties to impose security and stability.

On Friday, The Islah Party factions attacked gatherings of the Al Fejai tribe near the Wadi district, after the tribe refused to establish checkpoints inside their areas.

The sources said that the Islah factions used heavy weapons and armored vehicles in the attack, which led to the death of nine members of the Obeida rustics.

According to the sources, six members of the Islah Party were killed, while 18 others were maimed from both sides.

The threats come amid ongoing tensions between the tribes of Ma’rib and the Saudi-led coalition factions, with the latter seeking to strike and dismantle the tribal cohesion to control the oil-rich province.

Al-Qaeda forces launch attacks against UAE-backed forces in Abyan
[HODHODYEMENNEWS] Al-Qaeda elements have on Sunday night launched a large-scale military attack against the positions of the armed factions loyal to the UAE in Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
province, southern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
This is the third attack carried out by al-Qaeda in Abyan province in less than a week.

According to local and international media, al-Qaeda murderous Moslems took control of new sites in Omran Valley, east of Modiya district, after fierce battles between the two sides that lasted for hours.

Al-Qaeda used drones in the attack, and the pro-UAE recruits suffered heavy losses in lives and equipment, according to media reports.

Al-Qaeda continues its escalation against the armed elements of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in response to the Siham al-Sharq operation the latter launched against the terrorist organization in Abyan.

Europe
Dutch arrest father, daughter, for sending millions of dollars to Hamas
[IsraelTimes] Pair suspected of transferring 5 million euros ($5.4 million) to Paleostinian terror group; two also suspected of participating in criminal organization to raise funds

Dutch Sherlocks arrested a father and daughter for allegedly sending over five million euros ($5.4 million) to the Paleostinian Islamist terror group Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", in breach of European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
sanctions, prosecutors said Monday.

The man, 55, and his daughter, 25, both from the town of Leidschendam near The Hague, were arrested on June 22, on suspicion of "large-scale financing" of Hamas, said the public prosecution service.

Investigators found cash during searches of a house in Leidschendam and a business in Rotterdam, and seized a bank balance of around 750,000 euros, they said.

"The public prosecution service suspects them of having sent money, approximately 5.5 million euros, to groups related to the organization Hamas," the prosecution service said.

"They are also suspected of participating in a criminal organization whose purpose is to support Hamas financially."

The pair, who remain in jug, were allegedly involved in a foundation that replaced an earlier, sanctioned organization which sent funds to Hamas, prosecutors said.

The probe was launched after reports of unusual transactions, and after newspaper articles about a fundraising event in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
for Hamas, it added.

Hamas, which controls the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
strip, was placed on an EU terrorism blacklist after the September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda terror attacks on New York and Washington.

A lower EU court removed Hamas from the list in 2014, but the bloc’s top court reinstated it in 2017.

Iran said to target Israeli businessman, Chabad House, hotels in Cyprus terror plot
[IsraelTimes] Greek intelligence services also arrest 7 Pakistain nationals said recruited by Tehran to carry out attacks in Greece; international arrest warrant issued for cell’s leader

The targets in an Iranian-planned attack in Cyprus included an Israeli real estate businessman and a Chabad House, as well as hotels and entertainment venues frequented by Israeli tourists, Channel 12 reported Monday.

The report named the alleged targets, citing "the investigation" as its source for the information. It did not name the businessman.

Channel 12 also said that in recent days, Greek intelligence services arrested seven Pakistain nationals who were recruited by Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
to carry out attacks in the country. It was not clarified if they were also linked to the Cyprus plot.

The leader of the cell reportedly escaped and an international warrant was issued for his arrest.

The report noted the close cooperation between the Mossad and intelligence services in Greece, Cyprus and the United States.

Cypriot media reported the suspected terror plot on Sunday, believed to be linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a branch of the Iranian army that is considered a terror organization by several countries, including the United States. The Phile News website said the plot was thwarted by Cypriot intelligence services, in cooperation with other foreign agencies, said to be from Israel and the US.

Cypriot media said the suspected attackers in the foiled plot were using the northern part of the divided island, whose leader is recognized only by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
, as a staging post for the potential attack and that Cypriot intelligence services had closely followed the cell for a number of months.

Israel’s National Security Council warned earlier this year that Cyprus and Greece are countries where Iran is likely to target Jews and Israelis. The countries are popular destinations for Israeli tourists, in addition to having relatively sizable expat communities.

In March, Greek police arrested two Pak nationals who were allegedly planning mass-casualty terrorist attacks on behalf of Iran against Israeli and Jewish targets in Greece. The Mossad, which aided the Greek investigation, said in a statement that the two were part of an Iranian terror network. A Greek government official told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named at the time that one of the targets was a kosher restaurant in central Athens, which is part of a Chabad House in the capital. Other reports indicated the target was the Chabad House itself.

In October 2021, Israel said that an Iranian plot against Israeli businesspeople in Cyprus had been foiled. According to reports, the hired killer was of Azeri origin and had arrived in Cyprus on a flight from Russia, using a Russian passport. Cyprus charged six people in the plot, including the main suspect and three Pak nationals.

Iranian plots against Israelis have also been foiled in several other countries over the past year.

In November, Georgian security officials foiled an attempt by a Pak citizen to murder an Israeli in Georgia on orders from an Iranian operative.

Last summer, Ottoman Turkish forces stymied an attempt by Iranian agents to kill Israelis in Istanbul, arresting three men. A month before that, the Mossad spy agency and its local counterparts thwarted three Iranian attacks targeting Israeli civilians in Istanbul. Iran denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!

India-Pakistan
NIA raids 12 locations in J&K in terrorist conspiracy case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted a series of raids across four districts of Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
as part of its continuing investigations into the conspiracy of the newly-floated offshoots of proscribed Pakistain-backed terrorist outfits to destabilise J&K.

The agency in a statement said that twelve locations in the four districts of Kulgam, Bandipora, Shopian and Pulwama were raided as part of today’s crackdown. The locations were residential premises of hybrid murderous Moslems and Overground Workers linked with the newly-formed offshoots and affiliates of the banned terrorist outfits. Premises of sympathisers and cadres of these organizations were also searched extensively in the raids.

It said that several digital devices containing large volumes of incriminating data have been recovered by NIA in these searches. These will be subjected to a thorough scrutiny by the agency to unravel the details of the terrorist conspiracy, which NIA started investigating a year ago after registering a suo moto case (RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU) on 21st June 2022.

The statement said thag the newly floated terror outfits being probed by NIA include The Resistance® Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir (ULFJ&K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu & Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, PAAF and others. These outfits are affiliated to Pak-backed organizations like Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), al-Badr, al-Qaeda, etc, which have been banned by the Government of India.

"The cadres and workers whose premises were raided are under the NIA’s scanner for their involvement in the collection and distribution of sticky bombs/magnetic bombs, IEDs, funds, narcotic substances and arms/ammunitions. They have been engaged in spreading activities relating to terror, violence and subversion in J&K, according to the NIA investigations, " it said.

Investigations have revealed that Pak-based operatives were using social media platforms to promote terror. Drones were being used by them to deliver arms/ammunition, explosives, narcotics etc. to their operatives and cadres in the Kashmir valley.

The terror conspiracy under investigation relates to plotting by the banned outfits in both physical and cyber space to unleash violent mostly peaceful terrorist attacks in J&K with sticky bombs, IEDs and small arms etc. The organizations, supported by their masters in Pakistain, have been conspiring to commit acts of terror and violence, by radicalizing local youth and mobilizing overground workers, to disturb peace and communal harmony in J&K.

Iraqi soldier, three ISIS militants killed in Kirkuk
[Rudaw] Three Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) snuffies and one Iraqi soldier were killed in festivities near Kirkuk on Sunday, Iraq’s Security Media Cell announced.

"[The Iraqi army] clashed with these members [of ISIS] and was able to surround and kill them and detonate the boom belts they were wearing," read the statement ‎from the Security Media Cell.

An Iraqi soldier was killed and an officer was injured due to the detonation of the boom belts, according to the statement.

It added that the operation was in accordance with orders from the leadership of the joint operations, after receiving intelligence reports regarding the existence of the snuffies in the area near Kirkuk.

Kirkuk lies in territory disputed between the federal government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Erbil.

Baghdad and Erbil are still engaged in talks aimed at forming two joint brigades in the disputed areas. Earlier this year, the Iraqi defense ministry allocated a special budget for the joint brigades between Iraqi security forces and the Peshmerga to fight ISIS in the 2023 budget bill.

On June 11, two commanders of the Iraqi army were killed and five others were maimed during an ISIS attack near Kirkuk. ISIS later grabbed credit for the attack.

The snuffies have particularly taken shelter in the security vacuum in parts of northern Iraq that are disputed between Baghdad and Erbil, stretching across several provinces including Diyala, Salahaddin, and Kirkuk.

In April the global coalition to fight ISIS said there had been a drop in ISIS attacks on both sides of the border between Syria and Iraq.
An Nahar adds:
Sunday's military operation in Kirkuk province, north of the Iraqi capital, targeted "three figures of the terrorist group Daesh in the Turkelan region," the Baghdad's security forces said in a statement, using the Arab acronym for IS jihadists.

After the suspected IS members were identified, Iraqi troops approached and a clash erupted, added the statement late Sunday.

The jihadists "were surrounded and killed, the explosive belts they were wearing were detonated", it said.

In March, a senior Iraqi military official said IS had between 400 and 500 active fighters in the Shiite-majority country.

Palestinian gets 2 life sentences, plus 30 years, for 2015 murder of Israeli couple
[IsraelTimes] Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede, member Zir Ziad Jamal Amar also ordered to pay Henkin family NIS 3 million for planning of deadly shooting attack in West Bank

A military court on Monday handed down two life sentences, plus 30 years, to a Paleostinian terrorist over his involvement in a 2015 killing of an Israeli couple in the West Bank.

Zir Ziad Jamal Amar had previously been convicted of being part of a five-man Hamas cell that shot Eitam and Naama Henkin dead as they were traveling in their car near the West Bank settlement of Itamar on October 1, 2015. Their four small children — the oldest was nine years old — were in the back seat and witnessed their murder, but were uninjured.

Amar was convicted in February of two counts of intentionally causing the death of the Henkins. The charge is equivalent to murder in the West Bank military court. He was additionally convicted of four charges of attempted murder and several other security offenses, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

The court at the time accepted the prosecution’s position that Amar was guilty of the attack, although he was not present at the time of the shooting.

In addition to the life sentence, Amar was also ordered to pay a total of NIS 3 million ($830,000) to the Henkin family.

Amar was accused by the IDF of planning the attack with the other three members of the cell, providing them with the weapons and ammunition, and making sure Israeli forces were not present at the scene where they intended to carry out the attack.

The other four members have already been sentenced to life plus 30 years for the attack.

IDF confirms Palestinian rocket fire from Jenin, says no Israeli towns threatened
[IsraelTimes] Paleostinians in the northern West Bank attempted to launch two homemade rockets at Israeli towns, footage published Monday showed.

The Israel Defense Forces said one of the rockets landed in Paleostinian-controlled territory in the northern West Bank and did not cross the border into Israel. The second apparently failed to launch, footage showed.

"The rocket did not pose a threat to communities in the area," the IDF said.

No injuries or damage were caused.

The footage was published on Telegram by a group calling itself the al-Ayyash Battalion, apparently named for a notorious Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, bombmaker killed by Israel.

The group released similar footage in late May, and the IDF said at the time that troops had located the rocket launcher several hours later in the village of Nazlet Zeid, west of Jenin and close to the settlement of Shaked.

The clip published Monday showed two rockets before they were launched, with a note taped to one of them threatening larger attacks in the future.

The video showed the first rocket flying into the air, then spiraling out of control, and the second failing to launch.

The military said forces reached the scene of the launch near the West Bank city of Jenin and began searching for the suspects.

Earlier last month, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar said security forces had foiled attempts by Paleostinians in the northern West Bank to manufacture rockets to be launched at Israel.

Bar said the efforts were led by a senior Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
leader, who was killed by Israel in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
Strip during a five-day flareup in violence.
Sounds like he won’t be leading much of anything anymore.
"In recent weeks, [the cell] had begun producing rockets and launchers" to fire at Israel, Bar said on May 9, calling it "a dangerous precedent."
Less dangerous if half of them damage only themselves and the others never leave the launchpad, explosives being touchy things and difficult to learn before suddenly finding oneself the itchy owner of two hook hands.
The Shin Bet chief said members of the cell were arrested by Israel and had since confessed. "We don’t intend to let Afula... become a target for [rocket] fire," he said, referring to a northern Israeli city.

Thousands flee standoff between govt forces and ex-guerrillas in southern Philippines
[BenarNews] Thousands of civilians have fled their homes in the southern Philippines’ Sulu islands amid a standoff following a deadly weekend gunbattle between police and armed former guerrillas, officials said Monday. As of late Monday, the standoff was still ongoing and at least one policeman and three suspected members of the Moro National Liberation Front, a former separatist rebel group, were reported killed in related violence over the weekend.

The military said the violence began Saturday when followers of Pando Mudjasan, a former town vice mayor and leader of the MNLF, fired upon coppers as they prepared to serve him an arrest warrant for murder and illegal firearms and ammunition.

Police said Mudjasan’s armed followers housed inside a fortified compound opened fire on the police as they approached the village of Bualo Lipid in Maimbung town.
Maimbung is on Jolo island in Sulu province, for those interested in the geography of the thing.
One member of the police Special Action Force (SAF) unit and three followers of Mudjasan were killed in the fighting. Ten coppers and a soldier were also reported to have been maimed, while two civilians were hit by stray bullets, the police and military said.

The violence has displaced about 5,000-6,000 civilians, Maj. Andrew Linao, front man for the military’s Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom), said Monday. The civilians were sheltering in the Maimbung town gymnasium and being assisted by local officials.

"They fled because they are very afraid, and we are calling on everyone to calm down," Linao told news hounds. "But that is what usually happens when you have a firefight near a populated community."

Civilians near the conflict area were being advised not to return to their homes amid ongoing tensions in the area.

Brig. Gen. Eugenio Boquio, commander of the Army’s 1101st Brigade, said Mudjasan and his brother were maimed but were able to escape, according to intelligence reports. But Mudjasan and his followers have not beat feet from Sulu, an island province in the far southern Philippines, although it was unclear how many of their followers were still inside the compound, Linao said.

Linao said the area where the fighting was concentrated had been cordoned off, with troops and soldiers moving closer in.

"The operation of the SAF and police unit is ongoing to serve the warrant, capture and neutralize Pando [Mudjasan]," Linao said.

"Our effort is continuing now and our Army has set up checkpoints and blockades to prevent them from escaping."

Mudjasan’s group was composed of 20 to 30 individuals prior to the clash on Saturday. But the number of his fighters grew to around 50 individuals during the fighting, officials said.

Political warlords controlling their own private armies is a pervasive problem in the Philippines, especially in the southern Mindanao region where many of these officials were once members of bully boy groups who command their own forces.

The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) was once the country’s largest separatist force until it signed a peace deal with the government in 1996, although that agreement failed.

A splinter group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), would later sign a deal that would supersede the old peace pact and create an expanded Moslem autonomous region in Mindanao now controlled by MILF.

Some ex-MNLF fighters became elected local officials in Jolo, with their former rebel commands forming their own private armed security, officials said.

Military coordination and talks with the Sulu-based MNLF leadership were continuing to ensure that the law enforcement operation was aimed only at Mudjasan due to his criminal charges, officials said.

Mudjasan’s illegal activities were not sanctioned by the MNLF leadership, officials said. The runaway’s group was composed of "sympathizers and (Mudjasan’s) relatives from the MNLF," Brig. Gen. Boquio said.

6,000 Maimbung, Sulu evacuees returning home after shootout, says gov

[MSN] More than 6,000 residents of Maimbung, Sulu who were evacuated for their safety during a deadly shootout over the weekend are now being sent home, the governor said.

On Saturday former vice mayor Pando Mudjasan and his men exchanged fire with government forces who tried to serve a warrant of arrest on him. The encounter left one policeman and four people on Mudjasan's side dead.

According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras" on Monday, Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan said that some of the evacuees have started returning home.

Mudjasan, who is still on the lam, is suspected to be a leader of the Moro National Liberation Front
...the Turkic paramilitaries intended to replace with their native jihadi ferocity all the highly trained Turkish soldiers Sultan Erdogan I the much beloved has jailed in the last few years for not worshipping the ground he walks upon. The Uighurs and so forth who did not join Al Nusra or ISIS seem to have ended up here...
(MNLF). He is wanted on murder charges and the government also has a warrant to search his premises for firearms and explosives. Authorities are now in pursuit of around 50 gunnies.

Russian forces conduct one-sided patrol in Syria’s Kobani
[NPASyria] Russian Military Police (MP) conducted on Monday a one-sided patrol without the Ottoman Turkish forces in the eastern countryside of Kobani, northern Syria.

A joint patrol was scheduled between the Russian and Ottoman Turkish forces. However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
the Ottoman Turkish military vehicles did not show up at the border gate near the village of Gharib, 20 km east of Kobani, due to the Eid holiday, according to a military source.

Four Russian military vehicles passed through the scheduled patrol route alone.

In October 2019, following the so-called Ottoman Turkish military operation "Peace Spring" in areas of northeast Syria which resulted in the occupation of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) north of Hasakah, the Ottoman Turkish president signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.

The ceasefire agreements stipulating halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Ottoman Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrols with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.

The Russian vehicles set off from the village of Gharib and passed the villages of Karbanaf, Kosk, Alishar, Jom Ali, Kortek, Kobek, Satan, Teri, Tel Hajib, Qabajeq Saghir, Telk, Holaqiya, Kharabisan Tahtani, Jishan, and Qaramogh.

The Russian military vehicles returned to their position near the town of Sirrin, south of Kobani.

On May 15, Russian MP conducted a one-sided patrol in the eastern countryside of Kobani, the Ottoman Turkish side did not participate in the patrol due to the Ottoman Turkish presidential elections, according to what a military source told North Press, quoting the Russian patrol commander at the time.

On June 19, the Russian and Ottoman Turkish forces conducted the 142nd joint patrol in the western countryside of Kobani.

Two former opposition members killed in Syria’s Daraa
[NPASyria] Two former members of the Syrian opposition were killed and another was injured on Sunday night in Daraa Governorate in southern Syria.

A local source told North Press that unknown button men opened fire on Humam Dirar al-Zo’bi who was killed and Muhammad Mansour al-Zo’bi who was injured and hospitalized.

The button men shot at them in the town of al-Yaduda in the west of Daraa.

The two were former members of the Syrian opposition before the Syrian government forces took control over the governorate in 2018, according to the source.

Another source from the town of Mhajjah in the north of Daraa indicated that unidentified button men shot to death Waddah Muhammad, a former member of the opposition, on Sunday.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with daily liquidations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, as well as the spread of thefts.

In July 2018, the opposition armed factions and government forces reached a cease-fire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas of Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition factions agreed to hand over their weapons in exchange for staying in Daraa. Those who opposed the agreement were sent to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

Turkish intelligence transfers detainees from Syria to Turkey
[NPASyria] Ottoman Turkish authorities, in cooperation with the Ottoman Turkish-backed armed opposition, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), transferred on Monday eight detainees, including a woman, from a prison of the Military Police faction in the city of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa in northern Syria, to a prison in Sanliurfa province in southern The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
A military source told North Press that the detainees were arrested on February 2 while attempting to cross the border into Turkey from the village of al-Munbateh in the countryside of Tel Abyad.

He added that the detainees were investigated by the Military Police. During the investigations, it turned out that they came from regions held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) to go to Europe. However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
the data registered in the arrest report shows they were charged with "threatening Ottoman Turkish national security and planning reprisals."

The source noted that the Ottoman Turkish Intelligence, based on the arrest report, transferred the detainees through the military gate of Tel Abyad to a prison in Sanliurfa.

At the end of May, the Ottoman Turkish authorities transferred four men who were arrested in March in the village of al-Adwaniye in the countryside of Sere Kaniye while attempting to cross to Turkey. In early March, they transferred seven men, including three Kurds.

The Ottoman Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA occupied Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad after the so-called "Peace Spring" military operation in October 2019.

Four injured in clashes between two SNA factions in northern Raqqa
[NPASyria] Four people, including two civilians, were maimed in violent mostly peaceful festivities that erupted between two opposition factions of the Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) in a town in northern Raqqa.

An SNA military source told North Press, "Clashes occurred between the SNA factions of Suqour al-Shamal and Kataib al-Khattab in the middle of the town of Suluk, in northern Raqqa."

The source added that the festivities took place near a post of the SNA’s Military Police and resulted in the injury of two civilians, including a woman, in addition to two members of the Kataib al-Khattab faction.

The source noted that the dispute arose after Kataib al-Khattab seized a fuel truck belonging to a leader in Suqour al-Shamal at the Tufaha crossing upon its arrival from Raqqa.

The source pointed out that heavy machine guns and RPG-7s were used near the Military Police post without the latter doing anything to stop the festivities.

4 ammunition depots and 65 militants die in Idlib zone in Syria
Direct Translation via Google Translate Edited.
[Regnum] Russian aircraft hit the objects of illegal armed groups in the Idlib de-escalation zone in Syria, Rear Admiral Oleg Gurinov, deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties (CPVS) in Syria, told reporters .

He clarified that during the strike, four militant control points, as well as four warehouses with weapons and ammunition, were destroyed. In addition, the Russian military was able to eliminate 65 terrorists.

The rear admiral noted that this strike was a response to an attack staged by militants on June 23 in the province of Latakia using an unmanned aerial vehicle. Gurinov recalled that as a result of this attack on the village of Kardakh, a local resident was killed and a child was injured.

The deputy head of the center called on illegal armed groups to stop shelling the positions of government forces and civilian infrastructure in Syria. The rear admiral warned that Russian aircraft would continue to deliver precision strikes in the event of further attacks from militants.

As IA Regnum reported , in May, one of the leaders of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation), Abu Maria al-Qahtani, threatened that his militants would focus on confrontation with Iran and Russia , since they act in as allies of the Syrian government. This group controls the Syrian Idlib.

On June 23, Oleg Gurinov said that American fighters activated the weapons system twice a day when approaching aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces, which were making planned flights near the borders of Syria. He added that the US-led international coalition is systematically purposefully and flagrantly violating the deconflict protocols and the bilateral Memorandum on Flight Safety over Syrian Territory.
An Nahar adds:
Russian air strikes have killed at least 13 people in rebel-held northwest Syria, the deadliest attack on the country this year, a war monitor said.

At least nine civilians, including two children, were among the dead, with most killed at a fruit and vegetable market in Jisr al-Shugur in the Idlib region.

"These Russian strikes are the deadliest in Syria this year and amount to a massacre," said Rami Abdel Rahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Russian forces which back President Bashar al-Assad's regime were responding to rebel drone strikes over the past week that killed four civilians including two children, according to the Observatory.

The Syrian Defense Ministry said in a statement Sunday evening that its armed forces had "cooperated" with the Russian air force in retaliation for attacks over the past few days that killed civilians in Hama and Latakia provinces.

The operation targeted "terrorist positions" in Idlib province, killing dozens and destroying arms depots and drones, said the statement carried by Syria's official news agency SANA.

Six civilians died in Jisr al-Shughur and three rebel fighters were killed nearby by Russian air strikes, said Abdel Rahman, whose group relies on a network of sources inside Syria.

Another three civilians, including two children, and one rebel fighter were killed in a strike on the outskirts of Idlib city, said Abdel Rahman. That fighter was a member of the Turkistan Islamic Party, a Uyghur-dominated jihadist group,
...allied in that part of the world with Al Nusra...
he said, adding that the parents of the dead children also belonged to that group.

At least 30 civilians were wounded in Sunday's strikes, said Abdel Rahman, who added that the death toll was likely to rise.
Northern Press Agency provides local perspective:
The toll of the casualties of the Russian airstrikes that targeted a local bazar in Idlib Governorate in northwest Syria has raised to 75, including children. The airstrikes are the first of their kind in three years.

A medical source told North Press that as a result of the Russian airstrikes on the city of Jisr al-Shugur, west of Idlib on Sunday, 10 people were killed and 65 others were wounded including children.

The source said that the injured were taken to Idlib and Bab al-Hawa hospitals.

Yesterday, Sunday, the Russian warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on the outskirts of the city of Idlib, and the city of Jisr al-Shughur, Mount Arbaeen, Bazabur, and Binin in al-Zawiya Mountain, and the outskirts of the town of al-Kabina, north of Latakia.

This military escalation by Russia against northwestern Syria is the first of its kind in about three years, with Russian warplanes launching more than 25 airstrikes since mid-June, leaving casualties among civilians.

IDF says drone ‘fell’ over Lebanon; Hezbollah claims it was downed
[IsraelTimes] Lebanese media, citing the Hezbollah terror group, say an Israeli military drone was downed over southern Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
"The Islamic Resistance® downed an Israeli drone that penetrated Lebanese airspace... near the southern town of Zibqin," the Hezbollah-linked al-Manar television says.

The IDF confirms a drone "fell" in Lebanon during routine surveillance activity. It says there is no fear of sensitive information leaking.

Lebanon regularly complains about Israeli surveillance drones invading its airspace, but the Israel Defense Forces maintains that such incursions are necessary to track the activities of Hezbollah, which the Lebanese government is supposed to keep in check.
