Texas woman accused of stabbing online date to avenge Iran's Soleimani dodges jailtime
[FoxNews] Nika Nikoubin will serve three year's probation for stabbing her date, a judge ruled.

A Texas college student who stabbed her online date in retaliation for the 2020 U.S. drone strike that killed an Iranian military leader will not spend time in jail.

Nika Nikoubin, 23, was indicted on attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon and burglary after she stabbed her date, Daniel Trevino, in the neck while they had sex in a Las Vegas hotel room in March 2022. She later agreed to plead guilty to two counts of false imprisonment with a deadly weapon.

Judge Carli Kierny sentenced Nikoubin to serve three year's probation on Wednesday. Nikoubin, who immigrated to the U.S. from Iran when was 12, told the court she suffers from mental health issues including diagnoses for severe depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, KLAS news reported.

Nikoubin reportedly met Trevino on the dating platform Plenty of Fish and the two rented a room together at the Sunset Station hotel. While in the room, KLAS reported, the two started to have sex when Nikoubin blindfolded Trevino, turned off the lights and stabbed him in the neck with a knife.

"I have the scars to show for it," Trevino said in court, according to KLAS.

Prosecutors reportedly showed a grand jury two puncture wounds on Trevino's neck. Nikoubin's defense attorney had argued the attempted murder charge was inappropriate, pointing out her client did not intend to kill her date, writing, "Nikoubin specifically stated she did not wish to kill [the victim], but only wanted to ‘hurt him.’"

Trevino, who spoke with investigators on the night of the stabbing, told the judge he has forgiven Nikoubin "but whatever the law decides to do, that's up to the law."

A report filed by the Henderson Police Department said Nikoubin stabbed Trevino for revenge against U.S. troops for killing Qassem Soleimani in a drone attack in January 2020.

"I mean the U.S. killed Soleimani. Lots of blood spilled," she reportedly told police officers before her arrest. "So, I feel like, it’s fair that American blood be spilled."

Nikoubin's lawyer argued in court those statements about Soleimani were part of a psychotic episode, KLAS reported.

"I was raped when I was 18 years old by another student," Nikoubin told the judge. "At the time, I did not fully realize the impact that this experience had on me and my mental health deteriorated."
Surely rape does not trigger schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, which I thought are genetic.
She described her stay in a mental health facility for 10 days before she came to Las Vegas and encountered Trevino.

"I was diagnosed with a number of disorders including severe depression, schizophrenia, and bi-polar disorder," she said. "These diagnoses were deeply upsetting to me and, truthfully, I was in denial. While I was prescribed medication to treat my disorders, I initially struggled to properly follow my treatment regimen."

She apologized to Trevino, saying, "Most importantly your honor, I want to express my deepest apologies to the victim, Daniel, and to the state of Nevada, for the harm that I have caused."

Kierny permitted Nikoubin to serve her probation in Texas.

#1  ...told the court she suffers from mental health issues including diagnoses for severe depression, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder...

The judiciary has embraced modern psychology as a excuse not to perform their responsibilities to carry out the 'justice' they demanded be theirs and not the long historical practice of vendetta. No one is held responsible if the evaluation is wrong or the subject has relapses. Just suck it up people. Sheep Plebs are expendable. The 'insane' defense existed before modern psychology. Jurors/people could see the accused as not stable and acted accordingly.

Afghanistan
Acting Defense Minister Says Going to Fight Abroad 'Not Jihad'
Perhaps this makes more sense in the original Pashtun.
[ToloNews] The acting Minister of Defense,
...only acting in the sense that the government is not formally recognized beyond Afghan borders. Other than that, he’s as permanent as any member of a totalitarian government anywhere...
Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, said that if someone goes outside of Afghanistan with the intention of Jihad, his work is not called Jihad.

Yaqoob Mujahid said in a speech to the Ministry of Defense's commanders and Mujahideen that if the Amir prevents the Mujahideen from fighting but they still go to fight, then this battle is not Jihad.

Audio of Mawlawi Yaqoob Mujahid's speech was released by RTA.

"This is the Amir's [Islamic Emirate’s Leader] order, and obedience is compulsory. If a person goes outside of Afghanistan with the goal of Jihad, that person's Jihad is not called Jihad. If the Amir prevents the Mujahideen from going to battle and they still do it, this is war, not Jihad," Yaqoob Mujahid said.

The acting Minister of Defense said that the members of the Islamic Emirate should not commit an act that harms the achievements of the acting government.

Taliban Fighter Forces 13-Year-Old Girl into Marriage
Forward to the 7th Century!

A disturbing incident has emerged from Faryab province, where a Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
fighter coerced a 13-year-old girl into a marriage with his own brother-in-law, using the ominous threat of a firearm.

Captured on video and brought to light by Hasht-e Subh on Saturday, August 5th, exposes a sinister act committed by a Taliban member in the Dawlat-Abad district of Faryab province. This fighter, through the use of weaponized intimidation, orchestrated a forced marriage between the maiden of tender years and his brother-in-law.

When women raised their voices in protest against this grave violation of human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
, they faced life-threatening ultimatums from the armed forces aligned with the Taliban.

The mother of the victimized maiden of tender years pleads with the Taliban’s officials to take immediate action against such arbitrary and forceful actions perpetrated by their ranks.

While the Taliban officials in Faryab have maintained conspicuous silence on the matter, an unnamed local Taliban official did acknowledge, "We are informed about this incident."

It is essential to note that this incident is not an isolated occurrence. Similar abhorrent acts have previously surfaced, as seen in the recent event where a Taliban governor in Laghman
...Afghan province with a population of about 445,600, which is multi-ethnic and mostly a rural society. During the invasions of Alexander the Great, the area was known as Lampaka, wich is apparently Olde Macedonian for Laghman. The city of Mihtarlam serves as the bucolic capital of the province. The population is half Pashtun, the remainder Tadjik and Pashai. It had a repution for great wealth until it was conquered in the tenth century by Abu Mansur Sabuktigin.
He conquered it and set fire to the places in its vicinity which were inhabited by infidels, and demolishing the idol-temples, he established Islam in them, He marched and captured other cities and killed the polluted wretches, destroying the idolatrous and gratifying the Musulmans. After wounding and killing beyond all measure, his hands and those of his friends became cold in counting the value of the plundered property.
After that it was mostly notable for the production of dirt, rocks, and holy men...
province arranged the marriage of an underage girl under the pretext of monetary compensation.

President Mohamud to launch ‘Operation Black Lion’ during Galmudug visit while SNA warns Galgadud residents to beware coming festivities
Nothing like telegraphing your punches before you start...
[GoobjoogNews] President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to launch the second phase of the military operation against al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
during his visit to Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
state which commences today.

The President is expected in the capital Dhusamareb where an advance team of the presidential guard has arrived. Earlier in the week, National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) chief Mahad Salad held a strategy meeting with Galmudug President Ahmed Qoorqoor in preparations for the operation.

Dubbed Operation Black Lion, the offensive, according to sources privy to the development, will start in the eastern part of Galgadud region and the west of Hiiraan which includes the Shabelle River.

The operation will then head to the South West state and culminate in Jubaland. Kenya, Djibouti and Æthiopia are expected to send in about 20,000 soldiers following a deal reached in January under the auspices of the Somali Front-Line States Summit.

Sources say the President will visit Harardhere town which was recently recovered from al-Shabaab.

The first phase of the operation covered Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan in HirShabelle state and Galgadud and Mudug in Galmudug state.

The Somali National Army has issued directives to residents in areas on the outskirts of Gla’ad town in Galgadud ahead of a planned offensive against al-Shabaab
...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all ofwhich have enough problems without them...
which will officially mark the beginning of the second phase of the operations.

The commander of the 18th Batallion of Gorgor unit of the national army Bashir Omar Abdullahi directed residents not to deal or engage with al-Shabaab before and during the offensive otherwise they will be targeted by the security forces.

Abdulllahi also urged residents to stay away from areas of operation and cooperate with the army in sharing information about al-Shabaab activities. The army commander also called on the residents to be ready to take part in the offensive.

The meeting which was held on the outskirts of Gala’ad town was also attended by members of the Danad Special Forces. The meeting came ahead of the planned second phase of the offensive dubbed ’Operation Black Lion.’

Meanwhile in Guriel located about 176 kilometres north of Gal’ad, militia from the moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunna Wal Jamaa are gathering their fighters to join hands with the Somali National Army in the second phase of the operation.

The national army alongside Ahlu Sunna fighters will be working to recapture Elbur and Galhareeri both in the same region.

Sources have indicated that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will be traveling to the coastal town of Harardhere which was recently recovered from al-Shabaab. The president is expected to arrive in Dhusamareb the capital of Galmudug

Italy Donates Rescue Boats to Libyan Coast Guard
[LibyaReview] Libya’s Coast Guard and Ports Security recently received three ’GAT’ class boats, specialised for maritime rescue, from the Italian authorities and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
. This comes within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding signed with both parties in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, on 28 January 2022.

Upon arrival at the naval base in Tripoli, these boats immediately entered service. They are being captained by officers and non-commissioned officers of the Libyan Coast Guard, who had received training in Italia, as per the official statement.

These units are set to engage in maritime rescue operations in Libyan waters, significantly bolstering the rescue efforts off the Libyan coast.

In June, the EU delivered two more patrol boats to the Libyan Coast Guard in a ceremony in Italia. The step was a part of the European Union’s executive project to support integrated Border and Migration Management in Libya.

The delivery was made despite a series of reports documenting the links between the Coast Guard, and militia groups in the country

The EU project aims to "strengthen the capacity of relevant Libyan authorities in the areas of border and migration management, including border control and surveillance, addressing smuggling and trafficking of human beings, search and rescue at sea, and in the desert."

The EU delivered two Currubia Class vessels, which were former Italian Finance Guard patrol boats, according to Radio Radicale journalist Sergio Scandura.

The EU was heavily criticised by a United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
report released in late March, which documented the collusion of the high-ranking staff of the Libyan Coast Guard with traffickers and smugglers, according to EurActiv news website.

According to the report, the latter "are reportedly connected to militia groups, in the context of the interception and deprivation of liberty of migrants colonists."

According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the first quarter of 2023 was the ’deadliest’ since 2017, with 441 migrants colonists deaths while attempting to cross the Mediterranean route.

Libyan Army Rejects Settlement of Foreigners in Libya
[LibyaReview] The front man for the Libyan National Army (LNA), General Ahmed al-Mismari recently shed light on the military and civil accomplishments in the city of Sebha. Despite facing significant changes in security conditions, these advancements have enabled the city to experience stability, and pave the way for development under the guidance of the LNA’s General Commander, Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all. Actually, he is, but slowly...
According to al-Mismari, the LNA "defeated numerous snuffies in the Fezzan region, in more than 15 skirmishes and battles. The most critical operation since 2019 occurred in Sebha, where they eliminated a highly dangerous terrorist known as Abu Talha al-Libi."

He confirmed that armed units are now deployed across the entire southwestern region, spanning four military zones. al-Mismari also pointed out that the LNA was closely monitoring neighbouring countries experiencing tensions, to prevent them from exploiting their territories to launch attacks against Libya.

Additionally, efforts are underway to curb illegal immigration — an issue that affects both source and destination countries.

In his closing remarks, al-Mismari emphasized that they would "not permit the settlement of a single foreigner on Libyan soil." He also stated they would "not allow the establishment of fictitious projects intended for such settlements."

Libya has been in chaos since a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Qadaffy
...The late megalomaniac dictator of Libya, admired everywhere for his garish costumes, funny hats, harem of cutie bodyguards, and incoherent ravings. As far as is known, he is the only person who's ever declared jihad on Switzerland...
in 2011. The county has for years been split between rival administrations, each backed by rogue militias and foreign governments.

The current stalemate grew out of the failure to hold elections in December 2021, and the refusal of Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, who is leading the transitional government, to step down.

Situation in Niger. 08/05/2023
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

[ColonelCassad] 1. An ultimatum from ECOWAS to Niger expires tomorrow, which could be followed by a military invasion of Niger by a number of ECOWAS countries. ECOWAS is backed by France, which is actually revoicing the same threats to the military of Niger, in fact demanding their surrender.

2. Nigeria puts troops on alert and is preparing for military action in cooperation with several other ECOWAS states. France will try to act on the sly so that the intervention looks like an African war in order to knock out anti-colonial slogans from the hands of the new Niger authorities.

3. Burkina Faso has also put its troops on full alert and is ready to take part in the war on the side of Niger. Chad, in turn, refused to take any part in the intervention in Niger.

4. The military of Niger has resolutely refused to make concessions and intend to continue to hold power. In the capital of the country are rallies in support of the military. The key administrative facilities of the capital and most of the old government are held by the military. The old power can expect to return exclusively on foreign bayonets. She has no serious support in Niger.

5. France also refused to close its military bases and withdraw its troops from Niger, referring to the fact that it does not recognize the new authorities of Niger, and it concluded an agreement with the old authorities. In fact, only intervention will allow France to remain in Niger. This is where the whole colonial inside of "progressive democracy" comes out.

6. The President of Nigeria calls not only for a military invasion, but for a complete blockade of Niger, including the closure of borders, the cessation of trade, the cessation of electricity supplies, etc. In fact, events in the spirit of the 2014-2015 blockade of Crimea by the Ukrainian Nazis. Ordinary residents of Niger will be punished.

7, There is no actual confirmation of the conclusion of a contract between Niger and PMC "Wagner" at the moment.

Nigerian politicians urged to abandon military intervention in Niger

Nigerian politicians, public and religious figures have appealed to President Bole Tinub and the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) to abandon their intention to carry out a military intervention in Niger, the local edition of the Daily Trust reports on August 5.

“Military force can only be used after all other political and diplomatic mechanisms have failed. The result (the use of military force. - Ed.) may be civilian casualties, ” the group of Nigerian senators said in an appeal.

Similar appeals were made by a number of other politicians, public and religious figures, including Islamic preacher Mohammed Sani Umar Rijiyar Lemo , former deputy head of the People's Democratic Party of Nigeria Olabode George and professor at the University of Abuja Abubakar Kari.

The appeals, in particular, note that there are already many difficulties in Nigeria, including in the security and economic spheres, and a military invasion of a country close to Nigerians will only lead to aggravation of problems both in Nigeria itself and in the entire region.

As IA Regnum reported earlier, on August 4, ECOWAS Commissioner for Peace and Security, Abdel-Fatau Musaha, said that member countries of the community at an emergency meeting developed a plan for a possible military intervention in Niger. The decision will be made by the leaders of the ECOWAS member countries, he explained.

On the night of July 27, a group of military men in Niger announced a coup d'etat and the overthrow of President Mohamed Bazum. Colonel Amadou Abdramane, who led the coup, explained that the military opposed the country's leader "because of the deteriorating security situation and poor governance." The command of the Armed Forces of Niger supported the rebels.

On July 30, ECOWAS leaders said that if the President of Niger does not return to power within a week, the community may turn to military action. At the same time, the leaders of Burkina Faso and Mali, which border Niger, said they would consider military operations against this country an attack on their own states.

US suspends part of economic aid to Niger - Blinken

The US authorities are temporarily suspending funding for a number of foreign aid programs that benefit the Niger government. This was announced on August 4 by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The diplomat emphasized that the temporary measure does not affect all the White House assistance programs to foreign states that apply to Niger.

“The United States will continue to provide vital humanitarian and food assistance to the African nation. In addition, Washington intends to continue to maintain diplomatic contacts with the authorities of Niger,” Blinken assured.

The allocation of assistance, according to the Secretary of State, will be carried out as the situation develops.

As IA Regnum reported, Niger's ambassador to Paris, Aishato Bulama Kane , said that the putschists in Niger have been holding President Mohamed Bazum without water and telephone communications since the morning of August 4.

On the night of July 27, a military group in Niger announced a coup d'état and the overthrow of President Mohamed Bazum.

On July 30, the leaders of the Economic Community of West Africa announced that if the president did not return to power within a week, military action would be taken against the rebels.

US provided over $75 million to support Afghan refugees in Pakistan
Uncle Sugar, as Dr. Steve used to say.
[KhaamaPress] Embassy of the United States of America in Islamabad, Pakistain, said in a statement that the US has provided more than $75 million to support Afghan refugees in Pakistain and Pak host communities.

"Since October 2021, the US has provided more than $75 million to support Afghan refugees in Pakistain and their Pak host communities," the US embassy said in a tweet.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pie fight, Bella grabbed the cocoanut cream...
the statement also welcomed the partners who provide lifesaving protection and other significant services to support Afghan refugees in Pakistain.

"We welcomed our partners who provide lifesaving protection, education, health care, and mental health services to support refugees and their host communities across Pakistain."

The US embassy and consulate in Pakistain earlier in January 2023 released a statement saying that the US had provided more than $273 million in humanitarian aid to Afghan refugees in Pakistain and Pak host communities since 2002.

The statement further said that during fiscal year 2022, the US provided nearly $60 million in aid to the refugees and their host communities.

The statement came after two days that Pakistain police detained more than 17 Afghan refugees, according to a statement from the Afghan Immigrant Council in Pakistain. The statement said that despite having visas and passports, Pak police arbitrarily detained Afghan refugees, some immigrants colonists said.

"I have been told seventeen people were arrested, and then the number rose. They frighten and threaten people in vehicles dangerously. Both those with passports and those without were detained till morning," According to the Afghan Immigrant Council head in Pakistain.

According to the caretaker administration, more than 2.5 million immigrants colonists from Afghanistan live in Pakistain, and 300,000 of them are undocumented.

Iraq
Iraq's Handling of ISIS Families: Experts Call for Modern Rehabilitation Methods Amid Rising Concerns
[Shafaq News] Experts have expressed increasing concerns over the Iraqi government's strategy in dealing with the returnees from ISIS families who were relocated in al-Jadaa camp, calling for the implementation of modern scientific methods to tackle the deeply rooted krazed killer ideology in these individuals.

"The government's current handling of the issue, based on a classical approach, poses a significant threat to society," said Shahab al-Saffar, a researcher in krazed killer Islamic groups.

The Iraqi government continues to evacuate large batches from al-Hol camp in the Syrian governorate of al-Hasakah near the Iraqi border, relocating them to al-Jadaa camp in Nineveh. A source from the djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
city said that many of these families have returned to their homes and reintegrated into society after receiving judicial authorization.

"The situation becomes alarming when these families move directly from al-Hol to Nineveh, bypassing al-Jadaa camp," added the source. The same process also applies to ISIS families residing in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
Al-Hol camp shelters thousands of Iraqi refugees, displaced Syrians, and foreigners of 54 different nationalities. Many are families of ISIS fighters. The return of these families to liberated areas without undergoing substantial rehabilitation programs presents a severe societal risk, experts caution.

They advocate for the need to expose these families to intensive courses and rehabilitation before their integration back into society.

Al-Saffar emphasized the importance of cautious handling of this population, encouraging the adoption of modern methods for dealing with the embedded krazed killer ideology.

The expert warned of the potential retaliatory attacks against these families by relatives of ISIS victims.

According to the latest data, the number of residents in al-Hol camp has reached 49,820, including 24,846 Iraqis and 17,451 Syrians.

Last year, the Iraqi authorities repatriated five consecutive batches, totalling 603 families. They were moved to a closed displacement camp south of Mosul city and exposed to psychological and social rehabilitation programs under United Nations

supervision.

The UN Development Program announced on July 3, plans to facilitate the return of displaced Iraqi families in al-Hol camp to their hometowns, focusing on housing, infrastructure rehabilitation, mental health, social psychological support, and training.

Lawmaker Waad al-Qado said in a statement to Shafaq News Agenc, "Handling the ISIS families is based on what has been agreed upon between the Iraqi government and some parties controlling these families in al-Hol camp."

He added that al-Jadaa camp "operates according to humanitarian standards prescribed by the Koran and the constitution."

Al-Qado confirms that many families have left the camp and resumed normal life.

Iraqi Security Forces Carry Out an Inspection Operation in a Critical Territory
Yesterday a power tower in Diyala was destroyed, today the inspectors go looking for trouble.
[Shafaq News] Iraqi security forces on Saturday launched a large-scale security operation to secure power facilities in a watershed area between jurisdictions of the West Nineveh, Saladin, and al-Jazeera operations commands.

This critical operation, orchestrated in accordance with directives by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, aims to put pressure on "terrorist elements and those operating outside the confines of the law", an official blurb by the Joint Operations Command said.

"The primary objective is to enhance the security and stability within the jurisdictions, especially focusing on the protection of electrical power towers," it continued.

A blurb by the Security Media Cell (SMC) said that the West Nineveh Operations Command initiated the task through Infantry Brigades 15 and 20, the Sixth Border Guard Command, and Popular Mobilization Units, to" inspect and clear al-Hadr Island and the border separating Saladin and l-Jazeera Jurisdictions."

The Saladin Operations Command, meanwhile, embarked on its task through Infantry Brigades 91 and 95, Division 21, and the SWAT battalion of Saladin Police Command, to inspect Wadi al-Tharthar and villages to the east of Wadi al-Tharthar.

Simultaneously, al-Jazeera Operations Command, through the Seventh Infantry Division, the Special Operations Regiment, and the attached units of Tribal Mobilization Brigade 57, undertook the duty of searching and inspecting locations towards the border with West Nineveh.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
UN agency reports nearly 600 settler attacks over past six months
Someone’s been reading up on game theory and discovered tit for tat. Or possibly the version that gets several tits for each tat in order to steepen the learning curve...
[IsraelTimes] OCHA says figure includes attacks on Paleostinians and property; rise comes after ’number of such incidents in 2022 was already the highest since we started recording them’.

The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
warned Friday of a dramatic rise in West Bank settler attacks on Paleostinian people and property, with nearly 600 such incidents registered so far this year.

The UN humanitarian agency OCHA said it had recorded 591 settler-related incidents in the territory in the first six months of 2023 resulting in Paleostinian casualties, property damage, or both.

"That’s an average of 99 incidents every month, and a 39-percent-increase compared with the monthly average of the whole of 2022, which is 71," front man Jens Laerke told news hounds in Geneva.

And that comes after "the number of such incidents in 2022 was already the highest since we started recording them in 2006," he said.

Israel has controlled the West Bank since capturing it from Jordan in the Six Day War of 1967. The territory is home to nearly three million Paleostinians and around 490,000 Israelis who live in settlements widely considered illegal under international law; Israel and the US reject this contention.

Since early last year, there have been a series of Paleostinian terror attacks against Israeli targets, with Israel in turn carrying out raids in the West Bank that have frequently been accompanied by festivities with Paleostinian button men. Amid this unrest, there has also been violence by Israeli settlers against Paleostinian communities.

Arrests of perpetrators are exceedingly rare and rights groups lament that convictions are even more unusual, with the majority of charges in such cases being dropped.

Laerke warned that Paleostinian Bedouin and other herding communities were particularly vulnerable.

Since the start of 2022, he said that OCHA had documented the displacement of at least 399 people from seven Paleostinian herding communities amid settler violence.

Three of those communities had been completely emptied out, while there were only a few families remaining in the others, he said.

"The reason for leaving cited most often is settler activities, including violence and settlement expansion which results in the loss of the herders’ access to grazing land," Laerke said.

The threat of demolition of homes and other property by Israeli authorities was also cited, he said.

While some of the displaced communities managed to stay together, many are dispersed.

OCHA has launched an urgent assessment of the humanitarian needs of sixty Paleostinian herding communities directly affected by the worsening situation, Laerke said.

He stressed that "Israeli settlements are illegal under international law."
Liar. If a peace treaty had been signed, they would be. But because the Palestinians have refused to to sign a peace treaty despite many, many opportunities to do so, the settlements are very legal, indeed.
"They deepen humanitarian needs due to their impact on livelihoods, food security and access to essential services."

Science & Technology
US Marines land F-35B on Southern California highway
[Jpost] The F-35A, or Israel’s customized version, the F-35I, has greater capabilities as a distance fighter than the F-35B, and Lockheed Martin has sold it about five times as much globally.

The US Marines just landed an F-35B Joint Strike Fighter on an old 50-foot-wide highway in Southern California, refueled and rearmed, and launched back off into the sky, according to Lockheed Martin and the War Zone on Thursday.

On top of the F-35B performing this remarkable vertical-style landing, the Marines also established an improvised forward arming and refueling point to handle other kinds of aerial vehicles in the same area.

Israel does not possess the F-35B fighter at the moment, but instead has multiple squadrons of the classic F-35A fighter, and ordered another 25 F-35As in early July, which would bring Israel to 75 F-35s.

A statement from the ministry in early July did not give a timeline, but sources have previously indicated to the Jerusalem Post that even if Israel would formally order this third round of 25 aircraft sometime in 2023, it could take until 2026-2027 for the deliveries to come through.

The F-35 is considered crucial in the MABAM “war between wars” against Iranian proxies in Syria as well as in the event that the IDf would need to eventually strike Iran’s nuclear program.

It has stealth technology which makes it more able to strike targets throughout the Middle East with impunity and its surveillance and intelligence capabilities far exceed Israel’s older F-16 and F-15 aircraft. For example, it is said to be easily capable of outwitting Iran’s S-300 anti aircraft missile defense system, and possibly even the S-400 system, whereas other Israeli aircraft would have more trouble.

ISRAEL HAS ITS OWN VERSION OF THE AIRCRAFT
The F-35A, or Israel’s customized version, the F-35I, has greater capabilities as a distance fighter than the F-35B, and Lockheed Martin has sold it about five times as much globally. The F-35B, however, has the unique vertical landing capability.

Jerusalem is still keeping an eye on the fighter, especially when it makes headlines as it did this week.

According to the report, the US Marine Corps knows that to win future conflicts in the Indo-Pacific theater, “they will have to work like never before with the other services, and do so from very austere locales.”

This week, the Marines of Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VMX-1) gathered nine squadrons and other units from the Marines, Air Force, and Navy to conduct another round of the cyclical training event known as ‘Obsidian Iceberg.’

The event “is an organic effort to realize the distributed operations concept for the (short take-off and vertical landing) STOVL-capable F-35B by solving operational challenges associated with operating a fifth-generation fighter at remote locations that have little organic logistical support, let alone long, tidy runways,” said the report.

The spot where the US Marines conducted the drill was between various train tracks and route I-5 near Camp Pendleton.

In fact, the old road used to be part of the Pacific Coast Highway and has power lines and ditches to the west and active train tracks a few yards to the east.

Known as VSTOL-101, the road served for many years as a practice landing site for Marine Harriers, but VMX-1 resurrected the site for the unique training event with the F-35B.

Is the USAF training Ukrainian jet pilots at remote Regional Airports n the USA?

Because, I have noticed, what looks like a pair of US Fighter Jets, at a couple of different small GA/SC regional commercial airports, the last couple of weeks.

What I have seen so far, looks like F-16's Falcons with single tail fin and its unique looking cockpit bubble canopy.

NN,

I'd never say never, but I'm inclined to say no - it's a lot easier to train them in Europe (Poland really comes to mind) than drag them all the way over here to do it. There's also security considerations - all it would take is a hint, and there would be legions of people trying to get proof and thereby their Fifteen Minutes.

What is a much more likely possibility is that these are Georgia ANG/AFR birds - it's summertime, and the Guard/Reserve are doing their annual two weeks. If you can, get a look at the two-letter code on the tail, and that will tell you who they belong to.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Al Nusra denies it was behind killing of IS chief
[AnNahar] Syria's main hard boy al-Qaeda-linked group denied it was behind the killing of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's leader in the country's northwest saying it would have otherwise grabbed credit.

The security arm of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
, or HTS, made the announcement Friday night, a day after IS blamed the Syrian hard boy group for the death of its little-known leader, Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurayshi, who headed the murderous Moslem organization since November.

"We categorically deny this claim," the front man of HTS, General Security Diaa al-Omar, said in a terse statement.

He said HTS would continue to fight "evil acts" by IS in rebel-held parts of Syria, adding that had his group been behind al-Qurayshi's death "we would have given the good news to Moslems and announced it directly."
Fair enough.
Al-Qurayshi was the fourth IS leader to be killed since the group was founded by Iraqi holy warrior Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and declared a caliphate in large parts of Syria and Iraq in June 2014 before its defeat years later.

Abu Hafs al-Hashemi al-Qurayshi was named the group's new leader on Thursday.

The Islamic State group broke away from al-Qaeda a decade ago and attracted supporters from around the world. Despite its defeat in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria two years later, IS turbans still carry out deadly attacks in both countries and elsewhere.

Since IS broke away from al-Qaeda, both groups fought deadly battles over the past years in northern Syria.

...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
said Ottoman Turkish intelligence agents had killed al-Qurayshi in northern Syria — a statement that IS denied saying he was killed by HTS and was later handed over to Ottoman Turkish authorities.
Ah hah!
An earlier An Nahar article adds this useful tidbit:
Al-Qurayshi is not the real name of the IS leaders but comes from Quraish, the name of the tribe to which Islam's Prophet Muhammad belonged. IS claims its leaders hail from this tribe and "al-Qurayshi" serves as part of their nom de guerre.

The General Security Apparatus, affiliated with the HTS, refused to release the four detainees, despite the end of their sentences, which are three years and ended yesterday, according to the source.

The detainees are displaced civilians who were arrested earlier on charges related to incitement against the HTS on social media, the source added.

The detainees are Muneer al-Hassan, Uday al-Raai, in addition to two people from the city of Palmyra, central Syria, who live in the village of al-Sheikh Bahr, west of Idlib.

SDF reveals toll of Turkish attacks against AANES-held areas in July
[NPASyria] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) revealed on Saturday the toll of the Turkish attacks carried out against areas under their control during July.

The SDF is the military wing of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

Turkey intensified its drone strikes deep in Syrian territories. The most recent attack was two days ago where four SDF fighters were killed.

The Media Center of the SDF said they recorded 556 ground, artillery, tank, mortar attacks carried out by Turkish forces in July. Turkish warplanes violated the Syrian airspace 58 times, whereas its drones attacked the region 10 times.

The Media Center revealed that as a result of the Turkish shelling, nine SDF fighters, including a member of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), and one civilian were killed, and 12 SDF fighters and two civilians were injured.

The dangerous and systematic Turkish violations of human rights in Syria, not abiding by and implementing its extraterritorial obligations, threatening the security and stability of north Syria, carrying out deadly operations, and violating the civilians’ right to life, are all a violation of the international human rights law and international humanitarian law and must be investigated and held accountable for.

During the first half of 2023, Turkey attacked north Syria with 34 drone strikes, leaving behind 73 casualties, killing 44 individuals and injuring 29 others. The number of civilian victims constituted 27 percent of the total toll of victims.

Canada imposes ‘life sentence’ on its nationals in Syria – UN official
[NPASyria] Fionnuala Ni Aolain, the UN rapporteur on counter-terrorism and human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
, condemned on Saturday Canada for its failure to repatriate its nationals from northeast Syria, describing it as a ’life sentence’ and accusing Ottawa of hypocrisy.

She said in an interview with CBC, "It is inconceivable for any country, including Canada, to leave its vulnerable children in these camps for a day longer than they should be."

She also added that "Canada is putting the lives of its citizens at risk by not helping to return them from prisons in Syria."

The UN special rapporteur also accused the Canadian government of "hypocrisy," arguing that its actions on citizens in Syria devalued other international efforts on this regard.

"Canada is the leading state on the children-in-armed-conflict agenda at the UN. But actually those words ring hollow when you’re telling other countries to look after their children in other conflicts and you’re not prepared to look after your own," she said.

Many Canadian nationals, who have previously joined the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), are detained in camps and prisons of northeast Syria, which are under the control of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). They have not faced charges or been given a trial.

The UN official visited a some of these camps and prisons during a visit to the region in July, and she reported that she was devastated by the conditions and the number of children detained in prisons.

"I know people are tired of hearing about the conditions in northeast Syria, but the conditions worsen by the day," she noted.

The Canadian government has been embroiled in a federal court lawsuit launched by Canadian families of citizens detained in the camp. The government argued it is not a citizen right to expect the government to go to extraordinary measures and put officials at risk to rescue and return them if they are in trouble abroad.

As part of a last-minute deal, the government agreed to repatriate 19 women and kiddies as part of the lawsuit, but men were not included. Canadian women in detention camps have the choice to send their children alone or to stay together.

Agonizing journey of a Yazidi ISIS bride from Shingal to Palestine
[Rudaw] Mariam was just eight years old, a child who liked spending the hot summer days playing with her friends or her brothers in the Yazidi heartland of Shingal in 2014 when fighters from the self-proclaimed Islamic State

(ISIS) stormed their town. She was one of thousands of Yazidi girls and women kidnapped by the murderous Moslems. Under ISIS rule, she was forced to marry a member of the terrorist group and raise two of his orphaned children in his Paleostinian hometown.

Wearing a black abaya covering her entire body, Mariam, a pseudonym, told Rudaw's Nasir Ali her story over Zoom on Sunday. She recounted her nine-year journey from Shingal to Paleostine, during which she suffered violence, injustice and rape.
