80 bands pull out of South by Southwest in protest of Austin festival’s Israel ties
[IsraelTimes] Organizers say they ’fully respect’ the boycotters, after Texas GOP governor tells them not to let the door hit them on their way out

More than 80 bands and several scheduled panelists have pulled out of the ongoing South by Southwest festival, citing Israel defense ties among its organizers.
Out of over 2,000 — will anyone there notice they’re missing?
Organizers of the Austin, Texas, event that draws attendees from around the world have threatened legal action against the boycott’s leaders. But they also said on Tuesday that they "fully respect" the boycott.

The protest was sparked by the Austin For Paleostine Coalition, which called for a boycott of the festival due to the fact that its sponsors include the United States Army and the weapons manufacturers RTX Corporation, Collins Aerospace and BAE Systems. The festival began March 8 and runs through Saturday.

The coalition argues that, because the US military and the defense contractors have supplied Israel with weapons and technology — RTX supplies major components of the Iron Dome missile defense system, for example — boycotting the festival shows solidarity with Paleostinians.

"No more war profiteers and warmongers in this city!" the coalition posted on Instagram Tuesday in an announcement of the dropped bands. "Free Paleostine. Ceasefire Now."

The boycotting acts represent a small fraction of the total bands that were booked for SXSW, which this year totaled more than 2,000 and included headliners such as The Black Keys, Bootsy Collins and the Japanese artist Chiaki Mayumura.

But the boycott comes as the arts and culture world is widely roiled by tensions surrounding the Israel-Hamas
...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
war. Three venues have canceled shows by the Jewish musician Matisyahu in the last few weeks because of pro-Paleostinian protests, and Jewish authors and museum executives have also reported feeling targeted by antisemitism as a result of pro-Paleostinian activism in their fields; meanwhile, the Jewish director Jonathan Glazer ignited a firestorm with an Oscars speech this week when he criticized the war while accepting an award.

Musicians who have dropped their planned SXSW appearances include the indie acts Squirrel Flower, Mamalarky and Omni, as well as Shalom, a Nigerian/South African singer-songwriter whose given name is Shalom Obisie-Orlu. Every Irish band originally booked to play the festival, including the hip-hop group Kneecap, has also reportedly dropped its participation; Ireland is a particular hotbed of sympathy for the Paleostinian cause.

In addition, some scheduled panelists have also dropped their participation, including Chris Smalls, lead organizer of the first successful Amazon factory union in Staten Island and the star of an upcoming documentary about his unionization efforts; the social psychologist and author Devon Price; and the sociologist and Princeton University professor Ruha Benjamin. SXSW encompasses tracks on music, film, technology and social movements.

Prior to the start of the festival, SXSW sent a cease-and-desist letter to the coalition alleging that it had used the festival’s trademarked art in its social media posts without permission. The coalition’s website includes language in which it affirms a commitment to fight antisemitism and also states that anti-Zionism is not antisemitism.
Is too. And anyone who claims otherwise is a hateful liar, even the “Jewish” ones.
But the festival backed the boycotting groups late Tuesday after Texas Governor Greg Abbott
... governor of Texas. Abbott is a Republican. His 2014 Dem opponent, state senatrix Wendy Davis, thought the absolute, most pressing, most important issue facing the state was abortion. Abbott beat the pantyhose off her. His 2018 opponent, Lupe Va
ldez didn't dwell too heavily on abortion, but she lost too...
, a Republican, slammed them on social media. "Bands pull out of SXSW over US Army sponsorship. Bye. Don’t come back," Abbott tweeted.

"SXSW does not agree with Governor Abbott," the festival responded in a statement posted to Instagram.
…’cause Republicans are icky,” they added.
"We are an organization that welcomes diverse viewpoints. Music is the soul of SXSW, and it has long been our legacy. We fully respect the decision these artists made to exercise their right to free speech."

The post also explained SXSW’s connections to the defense industry, saying that the festival’s focus on the future made the companies a natural though minor fit.

"These institutions are often leaders in emerging technologies, and we believe it’s better to understand how their approach will impact our lives," the statement said. "The Army’s sponsorship is part of our commitment to bring forward ideas that shape our world."

The festival concluded with a comment referring to the Israel-Hamas war: "We have and will continue to support human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
for all. The situation in the Middle East is tragic, and it illuminates the heightened importance of standing together against injustice.”

#2  Scanning the list of the boycotting bands, we see the name Enola Gay. Apparently an Irish noise-punk band (whatever that means), old geezers would associate the name with the B-29 that dropped the first A-bomb on Hiroshima. Seems delightfully tone deaf for a bunch of woke hipsters protesting 'genocide'. Or maybe they are just stupid.

Pentagon commander warns of 'alarming' number of drone incursions at US-Mexico border
[FoxNews] Guillot also expressed deep concern with the number of Chinese nationals attempting to cross the southern border.

Drone incursions on the United States' border with Mexico number in the "thousands," according to a senior Pentagon official.

Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., questioned Gens. Gregory M. Guillot and Laura J. Richardson at a Senate hearing Thursday, asking about the number of drones documented at the southern border and their risks to homeland security.

"The number of incursions was something that was alarming to me as I took command last month," Guillot told the senator. "I don't know the actual number – I don't think anybody does – but it's in the thousands."

Caribbean-Latin America
Development of democracy in Haiti
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from the Telegram account of Not an Insider.

[ColonelCassad] The situation in Haiti has become uncontrollable; now about 80 percent of the capital, Port-au-Prince, is under the control of motley gangs. The city is in chaos, cruelty and violence.

How it began...

Over the past four and a half years, Haiti's internal security has steadily deteriorated. In 2019, the United Nations ended a 15-year peacekeeping operation in the country that was launched to combat growing instability after the overthrow of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004. As part of the UN mission, various international non-governmental organizations sent aid to Haiti to support social services, but the UN withdrawal forced most of them to leave the country, which ultimately led to social unrest.

The assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021 was the catalyst for the impending collapse of the state. The president was killed by employees of one of the American PMCs who entered the country, after which Prime Minister Ariel Henry took power into his hands, but he was unable to take control of the situation without external intervention. Rumor has it that it was he who had the idea to request help in destroying gangs from the famous “musical orchestra,” which infuriated the Americans.

At the end of February, Henri was in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi and tried to coordinate the start of a new UN operation, led by Kenya. Henri's absence in the country was perceived by the gangs as a signal to action, and as a result, the capital was practically captured. Jimmy Cherizier, the leader of the G9 Family and Allies gang and known under the pseudonym "Barbecue", organized a mass prison break in Port-au-Prince, freeing more than 4,000 prisoners, who immediately joined him. The group has claimed responsibility for attacks on government agencies, including the seizure of Toussaint Louverture International Airport.

The UN is now considering the possibility of a new operation. The UN suggests that Kenya will be able to send a contingent of 1,000 Kenyan police officers. Several Caribbean states, as well as Bangladesh, Chad and Benin, have pledged to send personnel to complement the Kenyan police, but their numbers and composition have not yet been determined.

As the main and only deployable force, the Kenyan contingent is completely insufficient to provide any meaningful reinforcement to the Haitian National Police. The largest gangs in Haiti began to put forward their political demands, as well as conduct operations against government forces, institutions and infrastructure, which transfers them from the category of criminal gangs to political rebels, accordingly, a military operation, rather than a police one, is required to resolve the situation. Nairobi understands this, which is why Kenya wants to suspend its participation until a transitional government is formed in Haiti.

Since the airport has been seized, the Prime Minister cannot return to the country; he is now in Puerto Rico after being rejected in the Dominican Republic.

In fact, the state of Haiti exists only on the map.

Government Corruption
Federal Judge Nails DOJ for Giving Pass to Antifa While Selectively Prosecuting Trump Supporters
[PJ] Finally a federal judge who believes in justice or something close to it. Could this be a crack in the dike of the tyranny of the DOJ? Is this the beginning of the end of Antifa pattern of violence and silence? We can hope.

To understand what's at stake, let's take you back.

At UC Berkeley in 2017, Antifa and their local black bloc franchisees set fires and rioted to prevent Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking on campus.

The anti-free speech violent protesters set off munitions, broke windows, beat people, and scared the university away from allowing any right-wing speakers to be heard on campus—unless they paid for their own security. Antifa radicals, calling themselves By Any Means Necessary (BAMN), framed themselves as brave and heroic for silencing speech of people they detested at the very birthplace of the campus free speech movement.

In an opinion issued February 21, California Federal District Court Judge Cormac J. Carney stiff-armed the DOJs Terrorism and Export Crimes Section out of Los Angeles and nailed them for selective prosecution. The decision to dismiss the federal charges against two men who at some point became members of a group characterized as "white supremacist" was based on the fact that Antifa did as bad or worse that day and at other events where both groups were represented and Antifa wasn't prosecuted.

The judge wrote, "prosecuting only members of the far right and ignoring members of the far left leads to the troubling conclusion that the government believes it is permissible to physically assault and injure Trump supporters to silence speech."

Carney wrote:

There is no doubt that the government did not prosecute similarly situated individuals. Antifa and related far-left groups attended the same Trump rallies as Defendants with the expressly stated intent of shutting down, through violence if necessary, protected political speech. At the same Trump rallies that form the basis for Defendants' prosecution, members of Antifa and related far-left groups engaged in organized violence to stifle protected speech.

The judge denounced the riots but said the feds couldn't go after one group without going after another, more violent contingent.

US renews 120-day waiver allowing Iraq to pay Iran for electricity
[IsraelTimes] The United States has renewed a 120-day waiver allowing Iraq to pay Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
for electricity, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told a briefing on Thursday.

Washington started issuing the waivers last year, stressing the money could only be used for "non-sanctionable transactions," such as buying humanitarian goods like food and agricultural products.

Dave Rubin reacts to watching 47-minute video of Oct. 7 Hamas attacks: 'I am changed as a human being'
[BLAZE] Dave Rubin is in Israel this week interviewing citizens and learning the truth about what the country is going through — the tragic reality our mainstream media loves to sugarcoat and ignore.

Today, he was shown a 47-minute reel of raw footage of Hamas’ October 7 attacks.

But those 47 minutes were enough to make the entire day "extremely emotional."

"Beheadings by hand with knives, throwing grenades into bomb shelters with children in them, burning people alive — it’s just beyond imagination," he says, adding, "I feel changed, actually, as a human being after watching it."
Guess he missed "Schindler's List"
That’s a couple orders of magnitude difference in viciousness.
Perhaps Ah'm just sensitive to violence
He then headed north toward the Lebanon-Israel border.

For those who don’t know, "Lebanon, in many ways, is a failed state that's now controlled by Hezbollah, which is really just an arm of Iran," says Dave, "and they have something like 200,000 rockets facing Israel right now, and they’re shooting rockets in constantly."

Because of these attacks, "80,000 Israelis have been evacuated from this part of the country" and are now "living more in the middle of the country."

"Interestingly, as horrific as everything was on October 7 with Hamas, down south, everyone is saying the real war is the ... upcoming war with Hezbollah," says Dave.

Something else people might not know is that "there's about 2 million Muslims that live in Israel as citizens, and they're helping right now. They are not violently revolting, they don't want to leave."

"There's just so many misconceptions," says Dave.
Indeed.

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
Guido Crosetto tells parliament that only previously signed orders were being honored after checks had been made to ensure the weaponry would not be used against Gaza civilians.

Under Italian law, arms exports are banned to countries that are waging war and those deemed to be violating international human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
Crosetto announced last year following the earth-shattering kaboom of violence in Gaza that the Italian authority that oversees the sale of military goods, known as Uama, had blocked authorization of the transfer of arms to Israel.

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
picking apart data from statistics agency ISTAT, independent media outlet Altreconomia this week reported that Italia had exported 2.1 million euros ($2.3 million) in arms and munitions to Israel in the last three months of 2023.

In December alone, Italia exported 1.3 million euros ($1.4 million) worth of arms, three times the level of the same month in 2022.

Crosetto tells parliament these were outstanding contracts. "Uama checked them on a case-by-case basis and they did not concern materials that could be used against civilians in Gaza," he says.

La Belle Francesco Vignarca, head of a national pacifist network for disarmament, says there was little clarity surrounding arms sales and criticized recent moves to reform the export law.

"With the [proposed] changes, decisions [on exports] will be more political and transparency will be reduced," he says, adding that all outstanding arms contracts to Israel needed to be suspended.

Italia’s conservative government offered immediate support to Israel in the wake of the Hamas
...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
terror onslaught on October 7, but has since criticized the Israeli invasion of Gaza, saying far too many civilians were dying and urging an immediate ceasefire.
Which particular species of cowardice does this fall under?

Bennett to CNN: ‘We have to take Rafah if we want Hamas to go away’

terror group.

"Almost every Israeli understands that we have to take Rafah if we want Hamas to go away," Bennett says. "If we don’t destroy them fully they’ll reconstitute themselves."

He says that the one million civilians sheltering in the southern city can be moved to "the area north of Khan Younis."

"Look, it’s not a five-star hotel. It’s not pleasant there. Nothing here is something that we wanted to do," he says.

Asked about reports that the White House is trying to push Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu out, he says, "Israel is a vibrant democracy and it’s no secret that there’s massive unrest in Israel vis-a-vis the political situation... but by the same token the overwhelming majority of Israelis support the goal, and the goal is to destroy Hamas — because we really don’t have any other choice.

Bennett posts on X, formerly Twitter, that he is continuing a "hasbara [advocacy] marathon" of interviews on foreign media, after he also spoke to Fox News yesterday.

The allegations prompted UNRWA's biggest donor, the United States, and some others to pause funding, putting the agency's future in doubt.

The head of UNRWA earlier this month expressed cautious optimism that some donors would soon return, though US officials said Washington's pause in funding might become permanent due to opposition in Congress.

US to impose new sanctions on 2 West Bank outposts, 3 ‘extremist’ settlers – report
Showing the American Moslem voting block that the Democrats are on their side.
[IsraelTimes] Axios says move intended to send a signal that Israeli authorities need to act against entities involved in providing support for attacks on Paleostinians

The Biden administration is expected to impose new sanctions on two illegal outposts in the West Bank that were used as a base for attacks by "extremist" settlers against Paleostinians, Axios reported Wednesday, citing three US officials.

The sanctions, expected to be imposed as soon as Thursday, are intended to send a message that the US is not only targeting individuals but also entities involved in providing logistical and financial support for attacks against Paleostinians, Axios said citing one US official.

New sanctions will also be imposed on three settlers, the US officials told Axios.

The US State Department did not immediately respond to a Rooters request for comment on the Axios report.

The Biden administration in February had imposed sanctions on four Israelis it accused of being involved in settler violence in the West Bank.

Last month, a US official and a second source familiar with the matter told The Times of Israel that a second round of sanctions was expected.

The expected announcement of sanctions would be a further demonstration of the lack of US trust in Israeli law enforcement, which rarely succeeds in prosecuting Israeli suspects while Paleostinians are convicted of attacks against Israelis at far higher rates.

Israel faces increasing international pressure to crack down on settler violence, with both the United States and the United Kingdom recently slapping sanctions on murderous Moslem settlers alleged to have carried out attacks on Paleostinians.

The violence spiked after the October 7 massacre carried out by the Hamas
...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
terror group in southern Israel, in which some 1,200 people were slaughtered and 253 were taken hostage, but violence was already on the rise before then, according to watchdogs.

The West Bank has been under Israeli military rule since the 1967 Six Day War, while the Paleostinian Authority has controlled parts of the territory since 1994. About 490,000 settlers live among approximately three million Paleostinians in the West Bank in settlements that are widely considered illegal under international law.

Additionally, the Biden administration said in February that Israel’s expansion of settlements in the West Bank was inconsistent with international law, signaling a return to long-standing US policy on the issue that had been reversed by the previous administration of Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
The US announcement came hours after Israel announced a plan to advance the construction of thousands of new settlement homes in response to a terror shooting in the West Bank.

The swiftness of the US move highlighted Washington’s ever-shrinking patience with Israel’s policy in the West Bank, as the Biden administration continues to come under fire from progressives at home and many allies abroad over its broad support for Israel in the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
More from the Times of Israel:
The US State Department offers information explaining the decision to sanction two Israeli illegal outposts in the West Bank and three extremist settlers.

The two sanctioned outposts are Moshe’s Farm, also known as Tirza Valley outpost, which was established in January 2021; and Zvi’s Farm, near the Halamish settlement.

The three settlers sanctioned are Moshe Sharvit, who runs the former outpost, Zvi Bar Yosef, who runs the latter outpost, and Neriya Ben Pazi, from the Rimonim Farm in the West Bank.

Bar Yosef “engaged in repeated violence and attempts to engage in violence against Palestinians in the West Bank,” the State Department says. Bar Yosef “uses the outpost as a base from which he perpetrates violence against Palestinians and prevents local Palestinian farmers from accessing and using their lands.”

Sharvit “repeatedly harassed, threatened, and attacked Palestinian civilians and Israeli human rights defenders in the vicinity of Moshe’s Farm,” according to the State Department.

“In October 2023, Sharvit issued a threat against the residents of the Palestinian village of Ein Shibli, and while armed, ordered them to leave their homes. This threat resulted in up to 100 Palestinian civilians fleeing their village in fear for their lives.”

Sharvit has been using Moshe’s Farm “as a base from which he perpetrates violence against Palestinians,” the State Department says.

Ben Pazi “has expelled Palestinian shepherds from hundreds of acres of land. In August 2023, he and other settlers attacked Palestinians near the village of Wadi as-Seeq.”
