...Until the day they passed, my parents would tell anyone who would listen about the times total strangers came up to them in restaurants and complimented them on our behavior.
The secret was pretty straightforward: public misbehavior would result in immediate termination with extreme prejudice.

My boys say they still remember me telling them "do you want to go to the bathroom and talk about this" in restaurants and stores.
(Problem was, the youngest one always wanted to go to the bathroom.)

Honestly, patrons should start charging for any and all restaurant mistakes. "Oh you brought the wrong order, we eat free." "Oh you forgot to bring us the bill for an hour, we charge $200/hr, EACH for wasting our time."
Don't know. I get the feeling there is a bit more to this story.
"All my kid did was watch tablet the whole time" easily translates to 'had the volume maxed and talked along with the tablet'. Along with the general breakdown of awareness and politeness. Having been there, watching someone hand a child a PED and a thing of crackers or chips and watching the mess happen so long as the adult can carry on with their conversation has had me measuring work loads, like getting under the table to clean up for the next round of guests.

I admit my kids can be messy but we clean the majority of it up and always tip well if they are. And yes, I know there's ones that let them run amok but the route their taking is going to backfire majorly on them. They will wind up in court.

When (other people's) kids are running wild in a restaurant, I deploy the casual aisle shoe™. If they're gonna scream, it might as well be in pain. You're welcome.
My kids were 95% behaved. The grandkids, possibly higher, when I'm present ;-)

[GEO.TV] In a unique cultural event, the Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia in Barcelona welcomed nudist visitors during a special 90-minute tour.
This collaboration with the Catalan Naturism Club aimed to provide a different and more immersive way to explore the museum's exhibits.
The focus of the tour was the "Bronzes of Riace" exhibition, featuring Luigi Spina's photographs portraying two magnificent Greek bronze statues of naked warriors from the 5th century BC, discovered near Riace, Italia, in 1972.
Guide Edgard, who led the tour without clothing, explained the intention was to create a more vibrant and non-traditional museum experience. The idea was to enable visitors to feel a deeper connection with the art they were observing.
The museum's website promised participants the opportunity to "admire the works by posing in the same situation as they are, completely naked and surrounded by other bodies."
This novel approach aimed to emphasise the historical significance of nudity, helping to eliminate any sense of shame or discomfort associated with the human body.
Visitors, like health worker Marta, found the experience just as intense as viewing the exhibition with clothes on but with a newfound understanding and appreciation for the historical context of nudity.

Coup attempts are not uncommon in Gambia, which is still reeling from over two decades under former president Yahya Jammeh.
Jammeh himself seized power in 1994 and foiled several attempts to overthrow him before he lost an election in late 2016 to Barrow. Fadera has denied all charges. He has 30 days to appeal the verdict.

[AFRICANEWS] The Ugandan government on Wednesday slammed the United States' announcement that it would withdraw the country from a trade agreement because of human rights ...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state... violations, saying the move would hurt its farmers and small businesses.
Washington announced this week that it was excluding Uganda, along with the Central African Republic, Gabon and Niger, from the list of sub-Saharan African countries benefiting from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) from January 2024.
This Act, which dates back to 2000, allows African countries to export a wide range of products to the United States duty-free. This preferential trade treatment is, however, subject to a series of conditions in terms of political pluralism, respect for human rights and the rule of law, and the fight against corruption.

[USNI] Alleged corruption inside Beijing’s rocket forces, which led to the ouster of former Chinese defense minister Li Shangfu, continues to be a problem for Chinese President Xi Jinping, an expert on People’s Liberation Army said Tuesday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies event.
Xi has not been successful at his efforts to clean up the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force, despite the removal of a number of its most senior generals earlier this summer as part of an anti-corruption push, said Roderick Lee, research director at the Air University’s China Aerospace Studies Institute.
The Chinese military is organized along both government and Communist Party lines, which means the “minister of defense is a weak position,” as it falls under the CCP’s control, said Shen Ming Shih, a fellow at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research.
The defense minister’s resignation may signal warmer military-to-military relations between China and other countries, Shen, who spoke from Taiwan, said. In recent weeks, he said “less hawkish” statements are being thrown at Taiwan and the United States by Chinese officials and its media.
But this upheaval at the top of the ministry of defense and across the rocket force does not signify Beijing has any intention to reduce provocative intercepts in the air and at sea, the panelists agreed. Nor does it mean that Xi intends to cut back on modernizing his conventional forces, including adding 30 warships and several hundred fourth or fifth-generation fighter aircraft, according to the

North Korea has provided Russia with over one million artillery rounds to use in its war with Ukraine with Pyongyang appearing to receive advice on satellite technology in return, a South Korean lawmaker said Wednesday, citing Seoul’s spy agency.
[ET via ZERO] Stephen Moore, senior economist at FreedomWorks and once a senior economic adviser to former President Donald Trump, has issued a grim prediction about America's electric vehicle (EV) market, saying EVs are poised to be automakers' "next big flop."
Mr. Moore's grim prediction for the EV market came in an interview on Fox News's "Varney & Co." program on Oct. 30 and an op-ed in The Daily Caller on Oct. 29, in which the economist compared the current EV push to the failed rollout of the Ford Edsel.
"One of the textbook marketing flops of all time was the Ford Edsel sedan, which was heralded as the hot new car in the late 1950s," he wrote in the op-ed.
At the time of the Edsel launch, automotive experts widely expressed the view that the sedan—named after Henry Ford's son—would be a sure thing. However, instead of sales in the hundreds of thousands, as experts generally predicted at the time, the Edsel sold a paltry 10,000 or so units and was discontinued.
A key factor behind the Edsel's flop is, according to Mr. Moore, that the car was pushed on a public that didn't want it.
"The obvious lesson for the industry: you can’t bribe Americans to buy cars they don’t want. Given the all-in approach mentality for EVs at Ford and GM, it’s clear that Detroit never got this message," he wrote.

[ET via ZERO] Almost a third of individuals who received a COVID-19 vaccine suffered from neurological complications including tremors, insomnia, and muscle spasms, according to a recent study published in the journal Vaccines.
The study analyzed 19,096 people who received COVID-19 vaccines in Italy in July 2021, out of which 15,368 had taken the Pfizer vaccine, 2,077 had taken the Moderna version, and 1,651 took the AstraZeneca version.
While both Pfizer and Moderna are mRNA vaccines, AstraZeneca, being an adenovirus vaccine, uses a different mechanism to trigger the immune response.
The study found that about 31.2 percent of vaccinated individuals developed post-vaccination neurological complications, particularly among those injected with the AstraZeneca jab. Different vaccines had a different "neurological risk profile."
The neurological risk profile of the AstraZeneca vaccine included headaches, tremors, muscle spasms, insomnia, and tinnitus, while the risk profile of the Moderna vaccine included sleepiness, vertigo, diplopia (double vision), paresthesia (a feeling of numbness or itching on the skin), taste and smell alterations, and dysphonia (hoarseness or loss of normal voice). "It turned me into a newt!"
As to Pfizer vaccines, researchers found "an increased risk" of cognitive fog or difficulty in concentration.
