Florida mayor arrested for allegedly shooting at police officers
[ABC] A Florida mayor, who was accused of practicing medicine without a license, was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly fired shots at deputies who were attempting to serve a search warrant, according to police.

Port Richey Mayor Dale Massad was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted homicide after he allegedly shot at two sheriff's deputies at his home in central Florida, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.

Massad, 68, also faces charges of practicing medicine without a license. There were no injuries reported and the deputies did not return fire, according to the sheriff's office.

Massad is a known drug user with a history of violence, said Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco. He was elected mayor of Port Richey, which is located about 40 miles north of Tampa, in 2015.

#2  I was a bit confused. No mention of his party affiliation had me thinking "guess the party." However, he is a registered Republican. Of course, in Florida, you can go the "no party affiliation" route. Of course, your county republican party's voter guide will strip that ploy away at election time.

IRS worker in SF illegally leaked records of Trump fixer Michael Cohen, prosecutors say
A San Francisco Internal Revenue Service analyst illegally accessed the financial records of Michael Cohen ‐ President Trump’s former fixer ‐ and leaked them to a Southern California attorney, who then passed on the documents to reporters for bombshell reports that revealed Cohen had set up an illegal shell company, federal prosecutors said Thursday.

IRS analyst John C. Fry allegedly accessed five "suspicious-activity reports" in May, 2018, that discussed wire transfers, check deposits and possible illegal overseas transactions associated with President Trump’s former lawyer.

Prosecutors charged Fry with unlawfully disclosing information from suspicious-activity reports to Michael Avenatti, a San Diego-based attorney who represents Stormy Daniels, one of the women accusing the president of buying their silence about past sexual affairs.

One report involved an October, 2016, transfer to a Cohen bank account of $130,000, the amount Cohen says he paid Daniels for not speaking publicly about her relationship with Trump. Cohen pleaded guilty in August to charges that included violations of campaign finance laws for handling payments to influence the presidential election, and said he did so at Trump's direction. Trump has denied it.

Avenatti tweeted a dossier with the information in May, 2018, commenting that "Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen have a lot of explaining to do." Explosive reports published the same day in the Washington Post, and eight days later in the New Yorker, detailed Cohen’s transactions, prosecutors said.

Fry met with federal agents in November and admitted providing the restricted information to Avenatti and the New Yorker reporter, according to a court affidavit by Treasury Department Agent Linda Cieslak.

If convicted of the charges, Fry could face up to five years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.

Fry’s lawyer, Gail Shifman, was not immediately available for comment.

The complaint, filed in San Francisco federal court, was unsealed Thursday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler. Court documents said Fry illegally accessed five reports using the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and Palantir.

Fry then called Avenatti and continued searching for other incriminating reports using Cohen’s driver’s license and social security numbers, according to the complaint.

Fry allegedly leaked the information to Avenatti because he was concerned Cohen’s records were being withheld from law enforcement investigations. The IRS analyst allegedly used the encrypted messaging platform WhatsApp to communicate with reporters for the Post and the New Yorker.

The information led to a report by the New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow that claimed Cohen’s company, Essential Consultants, received hundreds of thousands of dollars from companies that wanted access to the Trump administration, including AT&T and drug manufacturer Novartis.

"This is a permanent record," Fry anonymously told the New Yorker, according to the complaint, adding that some records should have been given to investigators but were improperly withheld. "They should be there, and there is nothing there."

Shortly after the story’s publication, the U.S. Treasury Department launched an investigation into who leaked the confidential documents

Fry wasn’t assigned to work on New York-based cases and his supervisor said the analyst had no reason to access Cohen’s records, according to the complaint.

Cohen, who pleaded guilty in August to eight counts of campaign finance law violations, bank fraud and tax evasion, is expected to testify about his financial dealings ‐ as well those on behalf of Trump ‐ in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Feb. 28.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting Fry’s case. He is scheduled to be back in federal court March 13.

“Mr. Smollet is a young man of impeccable character and integrity who fiercely and solemnly maintains his innocence and feels betrayed by a system that apparently wants to skip due process and proceed directly to sentencing,” read a statement sent out late Thursday on behalf of the Empire actor.

“Today we witnessed an organized law enforcement spectacle that has no place in the American legal system,” the hyperbolic statement added. “The presumption of innocence, a bedrock in the search for justice, was trampled upon at the expense of Mr. Smollett and notably, on the eve of a Mayoral election,” it also noted, tossing more political edge into an already sharply political affair.

CA Democrats Author Bill to Protect Sex Offenders Who Lure Minors
[CA Globe] tate Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblywoman Susan Eggman (D-Stockton) introduced recent legislation "to end blatant discrimination against LGBT young people regarding California’s sex offender registry."

However, under their bill, SB 145, the offenders would not have to automatically register as sex offenders if the offenders are within 10 years of age of the minor.

State Senator Scott Wiener. (Kevin Sanders For California Globe) Wiener claims the current law "disproportionately targets LGBT young people for mandatory sex offender registration, since LGBT people usually cannot engage in vaginal intercourse."

Existing law, the Sex Offender Registration Act, amended by Proposition 35 by voters in 2012 (Ban on Human Trafficking and Sex Slavery), requires a person convicted of a certain sex crime to register with law enforcement as a sex offender while residing in California or while attending school or working in California.

Wiener says, "Currently, for consensual yet illegal sexual relations between a teenager age 15 and over and a partner within 10 years of age, ’sexual intercourse’ (i.e., vaginal intercourse) does not require the offender to go onto the sex offender registry; rather, the judge decides based on the facts of the case whether sex offender registration is warranted or unwarranted. By contrast, for other forms of intercourse ‐ specifically, oral and anal intercourse ‐ sex offender registration is mandated under all situations, with no judicial discretion."

"This bill would authorize a person convicted of certain offenses involving minors to seek discretionary relief from the duty to register if the person is not more than 10 years older than the minor," SB 145 states.

Warren, Harris back reparations for black Americans affected by slavery
[The Hill] Democratic Sens. Kamala Harris (Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), who are both running for president, have reportedly said they support reparations for black Americans affected by slavery.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Harris affirmed her support for reparations in a statement after agreeing last week with a radio host that reparations are necessary.

"We have to be honest that people in this country do not start from the same place or have access to the same opportunities," Harris said in the statement. "I’m serious about taking an approach that would change policies and structures and make real investments in black communities."

Warren has also said she supports reparations, according to the Times, though her campaign declined to provide further details to the newspaper.

The Hill has reached out to both campaigns for comment.

Warren and Harris are both pursuing the Democratic nomination for president in 2020 and the Times noted that previous Democratic presidential candidates have not supported reparations.

Federal prosecutors broke law in Jeffrey Epstein case, judge rules
[MiamiHerald] Federal prosecutors, under former Miami U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta, broke the law when they concealed a plea agreement from more than 30 underage victims who had been sexually abused by wealthy New York hedge fund manager Jeffrey Epstein, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

While the decision marks a victory for crime victims, the federal judge, Kenneth A. Marra, stopped short of overturning Epstein’s plea deal, or issuing an order resolving the case. He instead gave federal prosecutors 15 days to confer with Epstein’s victims and their attorneys to come up with a settlement. The victims did not seek money or damages as part of the suit.

It’s not clear whether the victims, now in their late 20s and early 30s, can, as part of the settlement, demand that the government prosecute Epstein. But others are calling on the Justice Department to take a new look at the case in the wake of the judge’s ruling.

"As a legal matter, the non-prosecution agreement entered into by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida does not bind other U.S. Attorneys in other districts. They are free, if they conclude it is appropriate to do so, to bring criminal actions against Mr. Epstein and his co-conspirators,’’ said lawyer David Boies, representing two of Epstein’s victims who claim they were trafficked by Epstein in New York and other areas of the country.
H.T.: Q
Courtesy of Bright Pebbles, Breitbart adds:
Epstein, now 66, reached a nonprosecution deal in 2008 with then-Miami U.S. Attorney Alexander Acosta’s office to secretly end a federal sex abuse investigation involving at least 40 teenage girls that could have landed him behind bars for life. He instead pleaded guilty to state charges, spent 13 months in jail, paid settlements to victims and is a registered sex offender.

Acosta, now President Donald Trump’s labor secretary, has defended the deal as appropriate but has not commented since the recent round of stories. He was asked about the case during his Senate confirmation hearings for the Cabinet post.

“At the end of the day, based on the evidence, professionals within a prosecutor’s office decided that a plea that guarantees someone goes to jail, that guarantees he register generally and guarantees other outcomes, is a good thing,” he said.

Earlier February, the Justice Department opened an investigation into federal prosecutors’ handling of the plea deal.

The department’s Office of Professional Responsibility wrote in a letter to Sen. Ben Sasse that it would examine whether professional misconduct occurred in the highly publicized case of Epstein. The letter cited a series of recent articles by the Miami Herald that focused new attention on how the deal came about.

Uncovered FBI/DOJ Coverup of Clinton Foundation and Russian/China Related Crimes – PART I
[GatewayPundit] A 2016 DOJ criminal investigation was suppressed and buried by the DOJ/FBI that involved a major NY Democratic power broker, Bill and Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation.

The investigation revolved around the illegal sale of controlled US Homeland Security technology to Russia and China in the years before the 2016 election.

The DOJ terminated its internal investigation despite clear and irrefutable evidence of criminal activity and hid it from the public!

The Gateway Pundit will expose this scandal in a series of posts this week.

Today is our initial report on this egregious scandal and coverup.

This story begins with the Clintons and their Clinton Foundation. It includes Russia and China, and ends with another FBI/DOJ cover-up of Clinton crimes. The FBI did such a good job covering this up, that it has not been reported ‐ until today.

This story started before the 2016 Presidential election. In and around 2007, Martin L. Edelman a New York attorney with Paul Hastings LLP, a Bill and Hillary Clinton close friend, and one of their largest donor bundlers met Mati Kochavi, who reportedly made his fortune in NYC real estate market. They came up with the idea of forming a group of companies and purchasing other companies that would develop and sell Homeland Security and intelligence solutions in the US and world-wide.

Edelman (below) became the Chairman of the Board and Kochavi the CEO of their company named AGT International.

AGT International ‐ the firm that the Clintons helped create did all it could to generate revenues, even if it meant flagrantly breaking US law. In 2014, AGT described itself on its website as the following:

Testimony by FBI Lawyer Trisha Anderson Reveals Extensive Role in Trump, Clinton Investigations
Anderson essentially says the Carter Page FISA warrant was a high level pile-on.

She is then asked by Mr. Breitenback: “Does a spy, in your mind, include a human confidential source?”
Ms. Anderson: “No.”
Mr. Breitenbach: “Does a spy include an undercover FBI employee?”
Ms. Anderson: “I don’t know.”

I believe we now know what Carter Page was up to and why FBI interest in him vaporized after his departure from the Trump campaign. This may also explain Page's rather cavalier attitude and general lack of concern regarding his role in these sordid events.
