EXCLUSIVE: Clinton email exposed intel from human spying
At least one of the emails on Hillary Clinton's private server contained extremely sensitive information identified by an intelligence agency as "HCS-O," which is the code used for reporting on human intelligence sources in ongoing operations, according to two sources not authorized to speak on the record.

Both sources are familiar with the intelligence community inspector general's January 14 letter to Congress, advising the Oversight committees that intelligence beyond Top Secret -- known as Special Access Program (SAP) -- was identified in the Clinton emails, as well the supporting documents from the affected agencies that owned the information and have final say on classification.

According to a December 2013 policy document released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence: "The HSC-0 compartment (Operations) is used to protect exceptionally fragile and unique IC (intelligence community) clandestine HUMINT operations and methods that are not intended for dissemination outside of the originating agency."

It is not publicly known whether the information contained in the Clinton emails also revealed who the human source was, their nationality or affiliation.

Dan Maguire, former Special Operations strategic planner for Africom, told Fox News the disclosure of sensitive material impacts national security and exposes U.S. sources.

"There are people's lives at stake. Certainly in an intel SAP, if you're talking about sources and methods, there may be one person in the world that would have access to the type of information contained in that SAP," he said.

It is not known what the impact was on the source, nor the findings of a damage assessment by the agency that controlled the source.

Separately, Fox News has learned that the so-called "spillage" of classified information is greater than the "several dozen" emails identified in the January 14 letter to Congress, which also acknowledged for the first time, that the Clinton emails contained intelligence beyond Top Secret, also known as Special Access Programs (SAPs).

Soldiers of Odin: Anti-immigrant vigilante patrols cause concern in Finland
In the snowy streets of Finland's cities, black-clad vigilantes are on patrol, to the alarm of the police and many residents. They say they're there to keep Finnish people safe from what they say is a new and clear threat -- the increasing numbers of asylum-seekers.

The rise of the Soldiers of Odin, which claims 500 members, has sparked both concern and ridicule in the Nordic country. Opponents dressed as clowns recently to accompany the ominous-looking men on their patrols.

But the Soldiers of Odin, who derive their name from a Norse god, insist their patrols are needed to protect the peace in the sparsely populated nation of 5.5 million, which wasn't a major destination for migrants until 32,500 people applied for asylum last year. Most came from Iraq but also from Afghanistan, Somalia and Syria.

"It's chaotic and getting out of hand," Mika Ranta, a 29-year-old truck driver who founded the group, told The Associated Press. "We should be more careful about who we let into the country."

The Soldiers of Odin say they are unarmed, though Ranta acknowledged he carries pepper spray, which is legal in Finland. They wear black jackets bearing their logo on the back -- a mustachioed man wearing a Viking helmet and Finnish flag as a neckerchief.

Speaking by phone from the northern city of Kemi, Ranta said the posse isn't racist, but considers the newcomers a threat because "they are Muslims."

"Islam has never adapted anywhere and only brings problems with it. They don't tolerate anyone else apart from believers in Islam," Ranta said.

He said police are overworked and need help to deal with the migration situation -- a claim rejected by Finland's top police official.

National Police Commissioner Seppo Kolehmainen said the tenfold increase in asylum requests in 2015 has greatly increased the workload for police officers, including the need to fingerprint applicants, keep order at reception centers and protect them from arson attacks, mostly by drunk Finnish men -- not always successfully.

"But we categorically don't accept any street patrols that have been set up solely against immigrants or asylum-seekers. It's the duty of the police to keep law and order," he added.

Formed in October when the flow of migrants peaked, the Soldiers of Odin raised their profile on social media following reports that Finnish women were harassed on New Year's Eve in incidents that resembled a string of attacks in Cologne, Germany, that were blamed largely on foreigners.

Police are investigating 15 reported cases of sexual assault, including rape, attempted rape and groping in downtown Helsinki during New Year's celebrations, with many of the suspected perpetrators having foreign backgrounds, including some asylum-seekers.

So far, the Soldiers' patrols have been uneventful -- they haven't had any encounters either with asylum-seekers or with the police.

But they have created debates on social media, radio and TV shows and worried officials. They have also sparked counter-movements.

Last week, a group calling itself the Sisters of Kyllikki, named after a mythological Finnish female figure, began street patrols of their own "to spread love and caring" in the southeastern town of Joensuu, where a week earlier the Soldiers of Odin held an anti-immigrant demonstration.

That group's fame has spread on Facebook, with patrols planned in at least four other towns.

A troupe of clowns calling themselves the LOLdiers of Odin, in apparent reference to the text messaging abbreviation, LOL, for "laughing out loud," has gone even further.

Dressed in crazy clothes, including Viking helmets, tin hats, and long flowing gowns, they taunted and mocked the vigilantes on one of their patrols last week in the southern city of Tampere. The clowns sang children's songs, threw cartwheels and slid down piles of snow along the black-clad men's route.

Ranta said one of the clowns poured water on a patrol member when the temperature outside was as low as minus 25 degrees Celsius (minus 14 Fahrenheit).

"They just tried to provoke us," he said. "If they poured water down my back I'd throw pepper spray in their face."

Unlike the clowns, some take the vigilantes seriously, including Prosecutor General Matti Nissinen, who described them as sending "a racist and threatening" message.

"If we go back in history, we see that nothing good has ever come out of street patrols by this kind of uniformed group," Nissinen said.

The patrols have also caused consternation at government level.

While Prime Minister Juha Sipila initially appeared to dither about taking a stand, Finance Minister Alexander Stubb quickly condemned the groups, saying the government would seek ways to ban them. Foreign Minister Timo Soini, who leads the anti-immigration Finns party, said he condemns racism but didn't take a clear stand on the patrols.

Ranta's group claims offshoots in Britain, Germany, the U.S. and Estonia as well as neighboring Sweden and Norway. It hasn't got a foothold in the Helsinki region, where people are used to foreigners and are generally welcoming toward them.

"We're not there yet, but it's just a question of time," Ranta says. "Those New Year attacks are a clear sign we are needed."

Howzabout the gummint "seeking ways" to stop the invaders from assaulting Finnish women? I can give you a few suggestions.

I know a few Muslim families who have wholeheartedly adapted to America while keeping their faith (they think all the killing and conquest by these clowns who claim to share their religion is nuts), but by and large he's correct.

Yeah, but his PREFERRED place to draw the line would be from Murmansk to Moscow to Kalinningrad! Mannerheim thought Russia hadn't given all of Finland freedom, and it was up to Finland to take back the rest. See "Aunus" and "Karelia".

-Short Attention Span Theater-
U.S. Air Force cyberspace weapon achieves operational status
I understand that the idiots who run what I loosely call this "country" have relinquished control of the internet to the rest of the world. Has that been fully implemented? Does anyone know how that relates to this AFINC program?
The U.S. Air Force Intranet Control Weapon System has achieved full operational status, becoming the first cyberspace weapon system to do so.

The AFINC weapon system is designed to control the flow of all external and inter-base traffic through centrally managed gateways. The system is comprised of 16 Gateway Suites and two Integrated Management Suites, and is operated by 26 Network Operations Squadrons.

The weapon system was built to enhance the U.S. Air Force's cybersecurity capabilities, which Air Force officials say is increasingly important.

"Our network is under constant attack and it is a testament to the dedication of our 26th NOS team that our network reliability and traffic flow remains consistently high," 26th Cyberspace Operations Group commander Col. Pamela Woolley said in a statement.

The system replaces and consolidates over 100 regionally managed Air Force network entry points into 16 centrally managed access points in an effort to speed up defensive actions. It serves over one million Air Force users around the world.

The AFINC weapon system was designated as a weapon system by the Air Force Chief of Staff in March 2013 before achieving Initial Operational Capability in May 2014.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea arrests stupid US student for 'hostile act'
Personally, if I were president under these circumstances, I wouldn't lift a finger to help any of these idiots.
North Korea said Friday it had arrested a US student who, under orders from Washington, had engaged in an unspecified "hostile act" after entering the country on a tourist visa.

The detention comes at a sensitive time, with the United States taking a leading role in efforts to secure tough international sanctions on North Korea over its latest nuclear test.

Pyongyang has a history of using foreign detainees as bargaining chips to extract concessions and high-profile visits to secure their release.

The student, identified as Otto Frederick Warmbier from the University of Virginia, had entered North Korea as a tourist "for the purpose of bringing down the foundation of its single-minded unity at the tacit connivance of the US government and under its manipulation," the North's official KCNA news agency said.

He was detained "while perpetrating a hostile act against the DPRK", it added, using the official acronym for North Korea.

China-based Young Pioneer Tours, which organises regular trips to North Korea, said Warmbier had been a member of a New Year tour and was arrested when the group was set to return to Beijing on January 2.

"We hope his release can be secured as soon as possible," the tour group said, adding that it was assisting the US State Department in the affair.

- 'Privacy considerations' -

State Department spokesman John Kirby, citing "privacy considerations," declined to comment beyond acknowledging the reports of Warmbier's arrest and stressing that the welfare of US citizens was always a top priority.

The United States has no diplomatic or consular relations with the North, and the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang provides limited consular services to US citizens detained there.

Warmbier becomes the third North American detained in North Korea, which last month sentenced a 60-year-old Canadian pastor to life imprisonment with hard labour on sedition charges.

During a recent interview that the pastor, Hyeon Soo Lim, gave to CNN in Pyongyang, the North presented another ethnic Korean prisoner, whom they said was a US citizen arrested for spying in October.

- High tensions -

The term "hostile act" is a catch-all accusation that has been levelled at numerous detained foreigners in the past -- covering a range of possible charges from espionage to illicit missionary work.
It could also be that he took a picture of something that didn't exist in the worker's paradise.
The fact that Warmbier is accused of acting under US direction, would suggest he faces a spying charge.

The latest arrest comes months after the North released another male student -- a South Korean studying at New York University.

Arrested in April for illegal entry, Joo Won-Moon, who had permanent US residency, was freed in October through the border truce village of Panmunjom on the inter-Korean frontier.

Unlike some other foreign citizens detained in the North, Joo was never put on trial.

Several Americans have been held in North Korea in recent years, including the South Korean-born missionary Kenneth Bae, who was similarly charged with hostile acts and sentenced in 2013 to 15 years in prison.

Bae was released in November, 2014, along with fellow American Matthew Miller, after a secret mission to Pyongyang led by US intelligence chief James Clapper.

Tensions are currently running high on the Korean peninsula, as North Korea braces for fresh sanctions in the wake of the fourth nuclear test it carried out January 6.

The United States, along with allies Japan and South Korea, has led calls for a tough UN Security Council resolution that would impose economic penalties that go well beyond existing sanctions.

In a show of strength earlier this month, a nuclear-capable US B-52 bomber -- flanked by South Korean F-15 fighter jets and US F-16 planes -- flew a mission just south of the inter-Korea border.

Kerry Says Don't Believe the Hype: World Changing for the Better
* Cites Iran deal, climate accord, possible Minsk implementation

* U.S. Secretary of State brings rare note of optimism to Davos

Much of the talk in Davos is of doom and gloom. One man isn't so downbeat.
One. Single. Man.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry struck a rare note of optimism Friday in a speech to executives preoccupied by the faltering world economy, China's woes and the rise of geopolitical risk.

Yes, a "narrow tribalism, aggressive nationalism" and "violent extremists" present a real threat, but that isn't the whole story, according to the top U.S. diplomat. Rather, the world should grasp "a powerful sense of confidence in what we can achieve," he said.
And once we get rid of that Islamism "tribalism", we can start focusing on the stuff that was lost in its shadow.
"We are not living in a new normal" blighted by terrorism and war "and we don't have to," Kerry told an audience at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort. "We are not the prisoners of a predetermined future," he said. "Change is occurring in our world for the better and it is occurring faster, moving faster than ever before."

Kerry, who is in the final year of the Barack Obama administration, had brought a long list of reasons to be cheerful. He cited a rise in global life expectancy, the higher number of girls in education around the world, the deal that brought an end to Iran's nuclear ambitions and an accord to limit climate change.
I don't want to live any longer than I was originally sentenced to. Not in this world. More girls are in school because there are more people now. And that "deal" you're talking about favored the Iranians, not the rest of the world. I'm pretty sure you'll live long enough to see it, too.
He even spoke in optimistic terms of the U.S.'s relationship with President Vladimir Putin, talking up the possibility that Russia may implement the Minsk peace accord in Ukraine, leading to the lifting of sanctions.
The action in Crimea started on your watch, bub.
Kerry defended the fight against Islamic State, also known as Daesh, from the charge that there is no more evidence of progress. "Each day we are intensifying the pressure on Daesh," he said. "Yes, the struggle is far from over, but we are headed in the right direction."
Efforts are intensifying only as your grasp of reality improves. They started out as the JV. Now they are "shoot on sight." See the spread?

IMF: Venezuela inflation to surpass 700 percent
Ay-Pee
The International Monetary Fund says Venezuela inflation will blow past 700 percent this year.

In a note published Friday, IMF Western Hemisphere Director Alejandro Werner said inflation would more than double in the economically struggling South American country in 2016, reaching 720 percent.

Venezuela already suffers from the world's highest inflation rate. The IMF estimates that inflation here was running at 275 percent last year.

See ya, Suz: Regional EPA Chief down the Flint River w/o paddle
[Mail] A regional director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has resigned in connection with the drinking water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

Susan Hedman, the head of the agency's regional office in Chicago whose jurisdiction includes the state, will step down on February 1 so the government can focus solely on the crisis in the city.
An Obama-appointed official resigned? Wow, must be really bad...
High levels of lead have been detected in the impoverished city's water since officials switched from the Detroit municipal system and began drawing from the Flint River as a cost-saving measure in April 2014.

Some children's blood has tested positive for lead, a potent neurotoxin linked to learning disabilities, lower IQ and behavioral problems.

union 'negotiated' wages and pensions.

The govourner wasn't informed until late September so, since he's a Republican and the mayors of Flint and Detroit as well as the EPA official are Democrats, blame the Republican.

#5  At the risk of going full sci-nerd, the lead is not in the river water. The river water has high levels of chloride which leaches lead from Flint's ancient plumbing (most of which is residential, I'd wager).

Proper water treatment removes the chloride. The Detroit water system does this, for example.

Flint itself is a classic Michigan third world city. The State appointed the first emergency city manager to help the city get it's act together back around 2002

#9  Where would we be without this crap government creating crises everywhere?
Posted by: newc || 01/22/2016 15:15 Comments || Top||

#10  The #FlintWaterCrisis has captured the nation’s attention: many pundits have seized upon the fact Michigan is governed by a Republican, Rick Snyder, and have thus spun the disaster as one primarily caused by conservative indifference to poor black people. During last Sunday’s Democratic debate, Hillary Clinton explicitly blamed the crisis on Snyder’s leadership. . . .

She reiterated this stance during an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, who holds the same view. Michael Moore, who hails from Flint, all but accused Snyder of pouring lead in the water supply himself. Elsewhere at Salon, writer Elias Isquith blamed “austerity,” since the root of the problem was the decision to seek a more efficient, cheaper water supply. That decision was not made by Snyder, nor was it made by his emergency financial manager, a Democrat. In fact, Flint’s own city council and mayor approved the idea. State treasurer Andy Dillon—also a Democrat—signed off on it.

In hindsight, the execution of the decision to seek a new water supply was a disaster of epic proportions. But it is one entirely caused by government actors—most of them local government actors—and ignored by regulators until it was too late. The people who have thus far done too little to fix the crisis are also government actors—at the local, state, and even federal levels. Flint is mostly a failure of governance, not a failure of markets.

At the same time, let’s not forget the reason why local authorities felt the need to find a cheaper water source: Flint is broke and its desperately poor citizens can’t afford higher taxes to pay the pensions of city government retirees. As recently as 2011, it would have cost every person in Flint $10,000 each to cover the unfunded legacy costs of the city’s public employees.

The #FlintWaterCrisis is not a blueprint for what would happen if libertarians abolished government and let poor people drink poisoned water, as some enemies of free markets are no doubt claiming. Instead, it’s a great example of government failing to efficiently provide even the most basic of public services due to a characteristically toxic combination of administrative bloat and financial mismanagement.

#12  You may seeze me, but I'ze here.....

Lead and copper are part of the EPA's list of primary contaminants. If water is acidic, it can leach out copper from pipes in homes, and lead from the old 50%lead/50%tin solder joints in copper tubing in residences. This type of solder was outlawed in 1986. Water can be made more alkaline by adding chemicals like soda ash. So there are ways to mitigate lead and copper in domestic water by slightly changing its chemistry.

So the problem is due to old solder joints and lack of lead and copper control water treatment, which goes back to a bankrupt city that does not meet its basic responsibilities.

Detroit municipal water was not such a bad bargain. And the responsibility was on Detroit to do the proper testing at their treatment plants. Flint just had to do some quality control monitoring. Idiots. It is Flint's problem, not the Michigan governor's.

Britain
British soldiers can't fire their mortars because they are too LOUD
[Mail] Soldiers have now been ordered to employ a reduced charge to cut down the level of noise, meaning they can only practise up to a range of 2,000 metres.

The 81mm has been long established with British troops, and was used by Allied forces during the Invasion of Normandy on D-Day in 1944.

The ranged explosive is used to this day by the British Army to pound insurgent positions, as well as to provide support to ground forces on an assault or during a retreat.

The Noise at Work rules could be overruled on operational grounds by Defence Secretary Michael Fallon, but he is yet to intervene.

Parachute Regiment veteran Paul Biddiss told the Daily Mirror: 'This is ridiculous. You have to be able to use a weapon system to its maximum capability.'

A senior military source added: 'The noise problem has been an issue for years but I didn't see any concern from politicians when we were using mortars in Helmand.'

The new rule comes following fears that many Afghan war veterans have sustained issues with their hearing due to being in regular proximity to mortar fire.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said: 'We keep our health and safety policies under constant review and are committed to ensuring Service personnel have appropriate protection during both training and operations.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Real Clear Politics: Hillary Clinton's Coming Legal Crisis
[RCP] The latest release of Hillary Clinton emails entails real risks for her, churning just beneath the surface of her successful primary campaign. True, Democratic voters have shown little interest, and the mainstream media only a bit more. Their focus, when they do look, is on the number of documents now considered classified, their foreign-policy revelations, and the political damage they might cause. These are vital issues, but Clinton faces a far bigger problem. She and her closest aides could be indicted criminally.

Secretary Clinton is exposed twice over. First, she used an unsecured, home-brew server to send and store reams of classified materials. Second, in her official capacity, she worked closely with major donors to the Clinton Foundation. Each poses legal risks, with potential ramifications for the Democratic frontrunner, her party, and the Obama administration.

To understand the gravity of these issues, it is important to recognize that this is not just an "email scandal." It is an "email + server + foundation" scandal." Secretary Clinton didn't just send sensitive (and now-classified) emails over open lines, she stored them on private servers that didn't meet the government's cyber-security standards for sensitive documents. On its face, retaining classified materials in such vulnerable settings is a criminal violation. Senior intelligence officials have been charged for less -- far less. Storing some 1,300 classified documents on a personal server, and doing it for years, poses a special problem because it shows the mishandling was not inadvertent. It was Clinton's standard operating procedure.

Surely there must be some limiting factor beyond shame, cause this jackass doesn't know the meaning of the word!

Muhammad Bawazir refuses to leave GITMO, stays for long course
[The Mail] A Guantanamo Bay prisoner who protested his indefinite confinement with a lengthy hunger strike has taken the unusual step of turning down a chance to finally leave the U.S. base in Cuba, rejecting an offer to be resettled in an unfamiliar new country.

Muhammad Bawazir, a 35-year-old from Yemen, refused to board a plane as two other prisoners were being flown out for resettlement in the Balkans, his lawyer, John Chandler, said Thursday.

Since returning to his homeland was not an option, he insisted on being sent to a country where he has family. Chandler said he spent months trying to persuade Bawazir to accept the resettlement in another country he declined to name.

But the prisoner, who was 21 when captured in Afghanistan, apparently decided at the last minute he couldn't do it. 'It's a country I'd go to in a heartbeat,' the Atlanta-based attorney said. 'I can't help you with the logic of his position. It's just a very emotional reaction from a man who has been locked up for 14 years. '

Caribbean-Latin America
Hellfire Update: The 'New Cuban Missile Crisis' Mystery Deepens
[PJ Media] Conspiratorial explanations suddenly appear more rational than the official story. Did someone bribe someone to gain control of this cargo? Maybe Lockheed Martin was set up to make the delivery to Cuba look like a mistake instead of a decision? Did the U.S. government sell the missile to Cuba during the prelude to the reestablishment of U.S.-Cuban relations?

That last one should have been easy to dispose of. Yet it isn't now, because of the response of State Department Spokesman John Kirby. He was specifically asked whether the U.S. actually sold the missile to Cuba. Kirby answered:

I am restricted under federal law and regulations from commenting on the specific defense trade, licensing cases, and compliance matters. What I can say is under the Arms Export and Control Act, the State Department licenses both permanent and temporary exports by U.S. companies of regulated defense articles.

Not only is that not a denial, that's Kirby saying the Arms Export Control Act gives the State Department the right to grant licenses of military equipment. So Kirby chose that moment to affirm that the State Department has the right to sell "defense articles" to, say, Cuba. Further pressed by reporters, Kirby declined to say that the U.S. did not or would not authorize a transfer to Cuba.

At that time, Cuba was still on the State Department list of terror sponsoring countries.

AG Lynch: We Want $80 Million For Obama's Gun-Control Plan
[Breitbart] The price tag for implementing President Obama's executive gun controls is $80 million, Attorney General Loretta Lynch declared during her January 20 testimony before the Senate Appropriations subcommittee.

Lynch said the administration will begin pushing for the money in Obama's 2017 budget request, due next month, according to ABC News,

She's already meeting some opposition. "This subcommittee will have no part in undermining the Constitution and the rights that it protects," subcommittee chairman Senator Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) told Lynch.

Robert Gates: '€˜Odds Are Pretty High' Russia, China, And Iran Accessed Hillary's Server
Apparently these countries don't understand that Hillary is above the law and off-limits.
Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates says, "I think the odds are pretty high" countries like Iran, China, and Russia hacked Hillary Clinton's email server.
We at the Burg got there months ago...
It takes a while for things to get into the stratos of guv'mint service.
In an interview with Hugh Hewitt on Thursday, the former CIA director said "the Pentagon acknowledges that they get attacked about 100,000 times a day."

Hewitt asked Gates, "[A]re you surprised by the news that continues to come out about the former Secretary of State's server and the fact that the intelligence community's inspector general has said there was a lot of very highly classified information on her server?"

"Yeah, that's a concern for me," Gates said. "I never used email when I was head of CIA or head of the Department of Defense. As I used to joke, I didn't want to have some chief of station overseas email me and say he was going to do something if I didn't get back to him in three hours, and I would get back from a five hour hearing to discover I was two hours too late. I preferred dealing with people face to face and putting a signature on a piece of paper on matters of real national security and importance."

Hewitt followed up, "One of your colleagues, Mike Morell [Former Deputy Director of the CIA], said on this program, or actually agreed with my assertion that almost certainly, Russians, Chinese and Iranians had compromised the home brew server of the former Secretary of State. He agreed with that. Do you agree with his assessment of my assessment?"

"Well, given the fact that the Pentagon acknowledges that they get attacked about 100,000 times a day, I think the odds are pretty high," Gates insisted.

"And so if they had real time access to her server, would that have compromised national security," Hewitt asked.

"Well, again, it would depend entirely on what she put on there. And I just, I haven't read any of these emails, so I don't know what was on those servers."

#1  "Well, again, it would depend entirely on what she put on there. And I just, I haven't read any of these emails, so I don't know what was on those servers."

No worries, it was only some SAP stuff. We'd have to 'read you on' to the programs again Mr. Gates, in order for you to view them. [sarc off]

The positions the Hildebeest has held already establish her as an INSTANT 'high value target' for foreign intelligence exploitation. Her flagrant violation of security protocols and close connection to Huma Abedin, and through extension, Abedin's mother Saleha, along with Saleha's known MB connections make the compromise even more probable.

Gates is correct, compromise must absolutely be assumed. Also to be assumed [since she allegedly used no SIPR or JWICS accounts] is that the Hildebeest communicated with POTUS and other senior regime officials via these same UNCLAS systems. Little wonder the FBI has a reported 150 agents assigned to this case, the roots of compromise could potentially be endless. One must wonder what these 150 agents might be attending to if not diverted to cover this investigation.

Even more troubling is the inattention [or denial] by our own very large 'Cyber-Security' apparatus. Gates admitted 100k hacker hits per day which provides not only frequency but origins as well, along with a vector to the type of information sought, ie, foreign intelligence 'gaps.'

Aside from the untold cost of years of compromise of data through foreign exploitation, our entire communications security system and enforcement mechanisms are now effectively gutted and made useless.

#3  Even if we knew for certain the Russians, Chinese and Iranians did read it, the one group that will never be allowed to read them will be the American public.

#4  If some of the stuff on Hillary's server might have been SAP, does that mean only people read into all those programs are allowed to look for those potential e-mails?

Precisely. Program 'Indoctrination' or "Read-On's" are done individually and require signatures and dates, both coming in and going out [as in, 'read-off' to this or that program]. Control lists are maintained of everyone "Read-On"... or at least they were maintained at one time.

"Read-On" indicates you are authorized to discuss the program with other personnel who have also been "Read-On" and have a 'need-to-know. This is generally verified and controlled by a SAP Manager.

"Read-Off" means you are no longer authorized to discuss the program with anyone.

#9  As anyone who has had SAP access knows it is the content, not the markings that determine the classification and handling required. It is impossible for Hillary and those who transposed the material out of JWICS or SIPERNET of to know what they were doing was a felony and criminal each time. Her claim that lack of markings is both meaningless in terms of obligation to know the contents classification and actually an admission of abysmal stupidity if actually true. When will someone of integrity on the left in media rise to challenge her? Or have I asked an oxymoron ?

It's not just Hillary that needs to hang about this, but dozens of other people who had access to material they probably shouldn't have, and who were not properly vetted -- starting with Huma Abden. If indictments don't get issued by the bushel, there will have been the most blatant ignoring of law this nation has seen in generations. I want to see Hillary in orange jump suits for the rest of her (hopefully short and unpleasant) life.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Navy Littoral Ship Sidelined in Singapore After Gear Damage
I'm kinda wondering if the folks who designed this weren't also used for the F-35.
* Lockheed-built USS Fort Worth has major damage dockside

* Temperature alarms went off after a failure to lubricate gears

A U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ship is sidelined in port in Singapore because of damage to gears that propel the vessel, according to a memo from the service, which blamed failure to use enough lubricating oil.

The USS Fort Worth built by Lockheed Martin Corp. had damage to combining gears that let the ship run on a mix of diesel and gas turbine engines, according to the memo obtained by Bloomberg News. "There is no estimated date of completion" to the repairs, it said.

The incident is the second in little more than a month involving the vessels, which cost on average about $440 million each, according to the Congressional Research Service. The Navy towed the USS Milwaukee more than 40 nautical miles to port in Virginia last month in the Atlantic after its gears failed on Dec. 11, according to the Navy Times. The Navy memo said the two incidents weren't related.

Initial indications are that the gear damage in Singapore "appears to be caused by a failure to follow established procedures during maintenance," according to the memo. "During startup of the main propulsion diesel engines, lube oil was not supplied to the ship's combining gears."

Temperature Alarms

The lack of oil "resulted in high-temperature alarms on the port and starboard combining gears," it said. It said a maintenance crew of representatives from the company that made the gears and Navy personnel based in Yokosuka, Japan, is "on board to evaluate the gears and make the necessary repairs."

Lieutenant Commander Matt Knight, a spokesman for the Navy's Pacific Fleet, said the ship will remain in Singapore while it undergoes "a series of inspections to determine the extent of necessary repairs." He said the ship's crew was responsible for the failure to properly lubricate the gears.

The Fort Worth is on a 16-month deployment to Asia -- a high-profile example of the Obama administration's promised rebalance to Asia. The Navy wants to permanently base four littoral ships in Singapore. The service is also testing a new crew-rotation approach intended to allow for long deployments without exhausting sailors.

The latest incident is a setback for a vessel whose critics say is unreliable and not survivable in combat. The last two defense secretaries have cited shortcomings of the ship, built in separate versions by Lockheed and Austal Ltd., and both truncated plans for it. The latest effort came last month when Defense Secretary Ash Carter directed the Navy to reduce the program to 40 vessels from the program's original 52.

'Needed Investments'

In a memo to Navy leaders, Carter wrote that the service "has overemphasized resources used to incrementally increase total ship numbers at the expense of critically needed investments in areas where our adversaries are not standing still, such as strike, ship survivability, electronic warfare and other capabilities."

The episode in Singapore also may call into question the Navy's maintenance plan for the ship, which is designed to have a minimal crew of about 50, compared with a crew of 200 on Navy frigates.

The Littoral Combat Ship, intended for operations in shallow coastal waters, will face a new round of criticism when the Pentagon operational test office publishes its next annual report later this month. In past assessments, the office has cited doubts about the ship's reliability and vulnerability.

#1  He said the ship's crew was responsible for the failure to properly lubricate the gears.

It's not really a crew; it's more an "afloat team." Basically there are 'crews' that swap off at given times. There's been some heavy borrowing from naval aviation regarding ship construction and operation. The idea was to have flexible 'staffing' (akin to having a flight crew designated to fly an F-18, regardless of the crew names stenciled on the cockpit) and personnel and material support and maintenance handled at the squadron level.

The problems come in when the LCS has to operate for long periods away from that support and the 'crew' is not familiar with the vessel (each one develops its own personality,) or have not worked together and established a level cohesiveness, or there was improper turn-over between the 'crews'.

Of course it could simply be a matter that maintenance was either "gundecked" i.e., signed off but not performed, or it fell into the gray area of whether it's "contractor maintenance" or not.

The Enigma of Germany
h/t Instapundit
What to fear in Germany -- an ideologically driven leader who unilaterally is changing the demographics of the nation without public support, or an angry populist counter-movement that vows to keep Germans safe by any means necessary when the government won't? Both, or neither? Is Germany postmodern in erasing borders, or premodern in bullying its neighbors to do the same?

Does the world want Germans to stand up, reassert their pride in Western liberality and tolerance, and insist that migrants either integrate and follow Western values or go back home and stay there? Or does it want Germans to more or less continue to repress any expressions of cultural confidence?

To even the least-informed observer, German chancellor Angela Merkel's recent decision to allow tens of thousands of young Muslim migrants -- about two-thirds of them young men -- into Germany from the war-torn and terrorist-infested Middle East seemed unhinged. Over a million migrants entered Germany in 2015 alone, the vast majority of them young, male, Muslim, from the Middle East. They were not refugees by any classical definition. Apparently Merkel in particular, and Germans in general, must assert that they are the most recklessly postmodern of all Western nations in order to reassure the world, 77 years after the outbreak of World War II, that they are no longer the most recklessly nationalistic.

Think of something like Maggie Thatcher implementing the "Longest Suicide Note in History" after winning in 1983, after having revealed to the world that 'she' has been Michael Foot in drag all along.

The German political establishment is shocked and paralyzed.

To put this in perspective: In the 2013 election a majority voted center right. Since 2015 100% of parliament nominally supports policies earlier identified with the extreme left exclusively.

#3  It's foolishness. Merkel thinks that importing all these refugees will help the German welfare state by providing new millions of younger workers who will support the system.

She fails to ask this question: assuming Muhammed could actually get a productive job in the German economy, why would he and Fatima want to work to support the retirement of Dieter and Greta?

Kenya Police Kill Four Terror Suspects in Tourist Town Shoot-out
[AnNahar] Four terrorism suspects have been rubbed out by police in the Kenyan coastal town of Malindi while two others escaped, police said.

Police said the dead from Wednesday's raid included Suleiman Mohammed Awadh, who features on a "most wanted criminals" list with a $20,000 (18,000 euro) bounty on his head.

The list was issued after an attack on Kenya's Garissa university in April 2015, when Shabaab snuffies killed 148 people.

Police said the suspects threw a hand grenade and fired at officers during the early morning raid in the tourist town, which is especially popular with Italian visitors and is home to wealthy playboy Flavio Briatore's "Lion in the Sun" and "Billionaire" resorts.

"The bandidos murderous Moslems were heavily armed and they engaged our officers in the shoot-out and, in the end, four of them were fatally maimed," said Malindi police chief Matawa Muchangi.

Awadh, a 25-year-old who was local to the area, was identified among the dead.

The police chief added that two other suspects escaped with injuries during the raid on a rented house close to Malindi's airport.

Afterwards, police found weapons and mobile phones in the house as well as a letter said to be a request to al-Qaeda's East Africa affiliate, the Shabaab, requesting funds. Maps of Malindi were also found with the cop shoppe, a supermarket and the popular tourist Marine Park highlighted.

Turkish-German on Trial Accused of Jihadist Pipe Bomb Plot
[AnNahar] A German-Turkish man with alleged radical Islamist ties went on trial Thursday accused of plotting a pipe kaboom, possibly targeting a bicycle race, last year.

The 36-year-old identified only as Halil D. faces up to 10 years jail if found guilty by a state court in the western city of Frankfurt of having planned a potentially lethal attack.

Police in a raid last April found a pipe bomb packed with nails and metal ball bearings, as well as weapons, ammunition and dangerous chemicals, in the basement of his building in Oberursel near Frankfurt.

Prosecutors claimed there was a "jihadist motivation" behind the alleged plot to commit a "serious subversive act of violence" and said D. had ties to Germany's ultra-conservative Islamic Salafist community.

Police were tipped off by a building supplies store where he and his wife had in late March purchased three liters (0.8 gallons) of hydrogen peroxide, a bleaching agent and disinfectant that can be used in improvised bombs.

The couple had provided the shop with false personal details, said police.

Authorities, fearing a kaboom plot, canceled a professional bicycle race that had been planned in the area for May 1.
Ah. They didn't say why at the time.
The suspect's wife was also detained but released in July after she claimed she did not know about the materials her husband kept in the basement and said they bought the chemicals to remove mold.

Defense lawyer Ali Aydin argued that the man -- who was already known to police for previous offenses ranging from assault to illegal weapons charges -- had not seriously planned an attack.

The man in the dock declined to speak and was fined 200 euros ($217) for refusing to stand despite repeated requests from the presiding judge.

The trial, held under tight security, was expected to call scores of witnesses and experts and run for 30 days of hearings until mid-June.

UPDATED: 7 Egyptian policemen, 3 civilians killed in explosion during Giza raid on militants
We had three other submissions for this story (thanks, guys!), but this is the last update and from an Egyptian news source.
[AlAhram] The interior ministry said officers, who were seeking to apprehend 'Moslem Brüderbund terrorists', attempted to diffuse a bomb but were unsuccessful

Ten people, including seven coppers and three civilians, were killed in an kaboom Thursday evening as security forces attempted to raid a suspected hard boy hideout in Giza, prosecutor Ahmed El-Tamawy told Aswat Masriya.

Earlier in the everning the Ministry of Interior had said that the coppers and other victims were killed or injured as officers attempted to diffuse a time-bomb during the raid on an apartment in Marioutiya where suspected Islamist forces of Evil were believed to be staying.

The kaboom left 13 injured, two of whom are at death's door.

A civilian who lived in the building was killed in the kaboom, and two charred bodies were found inside the apartment, according to the ministry's statement.

It is yet unclear whether any of the those reportedly hiding in the apartment were maimed, killed or captured.

The killed coppers include Lieutenant Mahmoud Abu El-Maged of the Central Security Forces and low-ranking policeman Sherif Ibrahim.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Amin, the head of investigations department at Haram cop shoppe, was among those reported injured.

In recent months, Egyptian security forces have carried out several raids on apartments where suspected or runaway Islamists forces of Evil were reportedly either hiding or preparing for "terrorist operations." These raids have often ended with suspects killed by police, who say they were met with gunfire upon arrival at the hideouts.

Iraq
U.S. to Sell Iraq Huge Arsenal of Attack Jet Munitions
Not the kind of things ISIS will be able to make use of should they somehow acquire them, one would think.
[AnNahar] The United States has approved the sale of almost $2 billion worth of bombs and missiles to equip Iraq's squadron of F-16 attack jets in their battle against jihadist rebels.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said 400 American government staff and contractors would work in Iraq until at least 2020 to maintain the arsenal and train Iraqi pilots and ground crew.

"This proposed sale enables Iraq to fully maintain and employ its aircraft and sustain pilot training to effectively protect Iraq from current and future threats," it said.

The sale of the 36 jets had been previously announced, but the $1.95 billion arms package confirms that the Iraqis will have access to modern smart bombs and missiles.

jihadist group.

The sale approved this week includes 24 Sidewinder and 150 Maverick missiles for each jet. Some 16,000 bombs will be delivered, along with laser and satellite guidance kits.

Each jet will be fitted with an M61 Vulcan 20mm cannon.

U.S. engineering giants Lockheed Martin and Raytheon will be the primary suppliers of the gear and training, along with other U.S. groups and the Royal Jordanian Air Academy.

Many suspect it is the work of ISIS who, while they espouse a similar ideology, seek to eliminate these groups since they operate outside ISIS's command.

Idlib Province has been occupied by a coalition of Islamists, including Nusra and al-Sham, called the Jaish al-Fatah since last May.

Europe
Migrants Cross after Macedonia Reopens Greek Border
[AnNahar] After a night on the Greek-Macedonian frontier in sub-zero temperatures, some 2,000 mainly Syrian refugees on Thursday resumed their tortuous trek to northern Europe that was temporarily blocked by a border closure by Skopje.

"I'm very happy the problem is resolved," said 19-year old Imad. "I want to go to Germany to study".

Imad and some 1,200 other conflict refugees from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan
...or at least that's what their possibly real papers say, if they actually have papers...
had just spent the night in heated tents operated by aid groups. Though cramped and stifling with the scent of body odor, the tents were nonetheless preferable to sleeping on parked buses -- which is exactly what another 600 refugees had to do for lack of available space.

Macedonia this week decided to close its border with Greece, and only reopened it on Thursday for refugees wishing to go to Germany or Austria.

"The border crossing for migrants near (the Macedonian border town of) Gevgelija opened early this morning, but only those migrants whose Greek registration papers show their final destination as Germany or Austria can enter," a senior police official in Skopje told AFP.

Greek police lend a hand by duly adding 'Germany' or 'Austria' to the refugees' registration papers.
...regardless where these people actually intend to go?
By midday, some 400 people had crossed the border.

"It's a temporary procedure to reduce pressure on the camp, which can only accommodate 1,500 people at most," a Greek police source said.

Aid groups had warned that their resources had been stretched to capacity, raising fears for the fate of families with small children already suffering from colds. Wood fires are burning in barrels outside the tents, and benches have been brought up so the refugees don't have to sit on the freezing soil.

"If this flow continues there is no possibility for accommodation," said Antonis Rigas, head of the local Doctors Without Borders mission to the Greek side of the frontier.

"It gets very cold at night. Early this morning the temperature was minus seven Celsius (19 Fahrenheit)," he said.

Leading children's charities have warned that young refugees were at serious risk from the bitterly cold Balkan weather, as figures showed 31,000 refugees and economic migrants had arrived in Greece already this year.

Among them is Bashar Darwish, a guitarist with Syrian rock group Khebez Dawlem, three of whose bandmates have already reached Berlin.

"I want to rejoin them and continue giving concerts," he says.

"Our songs are about war, xenophobia, racism. We are people with the same problems and concerns as Europeans," he says.

Unlike Darwish, many other Syrians hide their faces and ask photographers and camera crews not to capture their image.

"We are very worried because after the (November 13 jihadist) attacks (in Gay Paree) everybody thinks we are possible terrorists," says a young Syrian who declined to give a name.

Macedonia on Wednesday said it had closed the border with Greece owing to problems with Slovenian trains that had disrupted the flow of migrants moving further north. Greek police countered that the frontier had actually shut a day earlier. And the Slovenian rail company Slovenske Zeleznice insisted they were running services as normal.

Macedonia's plans to allow through only those who seek refuge in Austria and Germany follows similar decisions by countries further along the main migrant route -- Serbia and Croatia announced they would do the same on Wednesday.

Austria last week also signaled that it would follow neighboring Germany's lead and begin turning back any new arrivals seeking to claim asylum in Scandinavia, after Sweden and Denmark tightened their borders.

Countries along the Balkan route earlier restricted entry only to refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq.

More than one million migrants and refugees crossed the Mediterranean Sea to Europe in 2015, nearly half of them Syrians,
...or "Syrians", multitudes of whom have the same few passports...
according to the U.N. refugee agency, UNHCR.

The International Organization for Migration said this week that 31,000 had arrived in Greece already this year.

Five Egyptian policemen killed in North Sinai attack
[AlAhram] The forces were killed in a firefight with person or persons unknown in Al-Arish

Five Egyptian coppers were killed late on Wednesday when person or persons unknown opened fire on them in Egypt's North Sinai, the interior ministry has said.

The unknown gunnies opened fire on security forces standing post in a southwestern district of the scenic provincial capital of Al-Arish.

Forces exchanged fire with the assailants, resulting in the death of three coppers and two low-ranking personnel, the ministry added in a statement on Thursday.

Three coppers were also maimed in the attack.

Security forces have cordoned off the scene of the attack, combing the area in search of the perpetrators.

group grabbed credit on Thursday for an attack on a checkpoint in the country's volatile Sinai Peninsula that killed five coppers.

The News Agency that Dare Not be Named could not independently verify the claim, which was issued via a statement circulated by the group's sympathizers on social media, however the design and logo resembled previous IS claims.

The attack took place at midnight on Wednesday in the city of el-Arish and also maimed three coppers, the Interior Ministry said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel plan could lead to more Jewish settlements in occupied West Bank
[LATIMES] In a move that could lead to construction of more Jewish settlements, Israel plans to annex 370 acres of agricultural land in the occupied West Bank near the city of Jericho.
Perhaps Europeans should consider moving to Israel, since their own countries are being colonized by Moslems. They tell me all y'gotta do to become Jewish is say you are and part with a bit of foreskin. Ladies don't even need the snip. In return you get to be a part of an international conspiracy. You get to control the currency of lots of countries, pull the strings in Congress, and control Hollywood. They're probably turning people away at the Synagogue doors.
The land has been under Israeli control since the Six Day War of 1967 and was already being farmed by members of the neighboring Etzion settlements, which are widely considered to be illegal under international law.
Attacking Israel in 1967 wasn't, of course.
There are those opinions widely held, and those which are true, oddly enough.
Formal annexation would continue a pattern of Israeli expansion that has been condemned by the U.S. and other world powers because it dampens the prospects for creation of a Paleostinian state, which they view as the best hope for a lasting peace.
Yasss, a project that's worked trippingly all these years. [Insert Star Wars film snippet: "Almost there!... Almost there!... Almost (KABOOM!)..."]
Israeli Army Radio quoted a defense ministry report describing the plan as "a very sensitive issue which will likely garner harsh critique from Europe and the United States, and of course from the Paleostinian Authority."
... as long as water continues to flow downhill.
The Cabinet is expected to quickly approve the plan, which was authorized in a declaration signed Wednesday morning by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, the radio station reported.

According to a report published by the Voice of America (VOA) on Thursday, the group has been busy in its campaign in Ghazni's restive areas including Zana Khan, Giro, Andar and Gilan districts.

Militants wearing black clothes have been seen in these areas urging locals to join them 'Daesh [Islamic State]'. They have also distributed night letters as part of their campaign.

Ghulam Husain Yaqoubi, governor of Zana Khan District has told VOA that Daesh [Islamic State] has shown notable presence in areas under the control of Taliban. According to Yaqoubi, the group wants one person in every two families to join their ranks.

General Aminullah Amarkhil, police chief of Ghazni has also confirmed the report saying that Daesh [Islamic State] is operating in a number of restive districts including Giro.

VOA has been told by local officials that Daesh [Islamic State] turbans enter Khak-e-Afghan and Shah Joy districts of Zabul province from Pakistain and then sneak into Ghazni.

Members of Ghazni's Provincial Council and other residents warn government to launch a military operation against Daesh [Islamic State] and Taliban in their province or it will face the fate of Kundoz province.

Pakistan claims attack on university handled from Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Pakistain claims the attack on a university in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

province that left 21 people killed and at least 30 others maimed was handled from Afghanistan. "The attackers were in touch with a number from Afghanistan," Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, the director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), told a news briefing in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. , according to Pakistain's The Express Tribune news.

"The bandidos Lions of Islam were continuously conversing on their mobile phones, two of which we have recovered and collected data from."

ISPR spokesperson has further said that the SIMs used in the phones were of Afghan origin, adding that a mobile phone recovered from one of the attackers was receiving calls even after he had been killed.

chief of Pakistain's Jamaat--e-Islami party Siraj-ul-Haq has blamed India for the attack saying that there is no doubt India was involved in it.

Afghan government has not yet responded to Pakistain's claim.

Yesterday's attack on Bach Khan University in Charsadda area was carried out by reportedly four attackers which started at around 09:30 and lasted for several hours.

The gunnies took students and instructors as hostages inside the university and engaged in shootout with security forces.

Several kabooms were heard from inside the university where some 3,000 students have been enrolled.

The overall attack left 21 people killed and around 50 others maimed.

Omar Mansoor, identifying himself from the Geedar group of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) grabbed credit for attack.

According to Mansoor, four attackers carried out the attack. Officials also confirm that four attackers were killed in the attack.

However,

Mohammad Khurasani, the central spokesperson for the TTP distanced his group from the attack.

It came a day after a TTP-claimed suicide kaboom at a security post in Karkhano area which is also close to Peshawar left 11 people killed and at least 30 others maimed.

"Its workers were anti-jihad and anti-Islam elements trained by foreign intelligence toiling for the Americans."The Taliban openly threatened to target the station last year after it reported allegations of summary executions, rape and kidnappings by Taliban fighters during the battle for the city of Kunduz. Although some details of those reports have been disputed, Tolo insists it was scrupulous in reporting all sides of the fighting, including allowing Taliban spokesmen a right of reply.

Tolo, which created Afghanistan's first 24-hour news channel, has won a reputation for fast, credible reporting in a shifting media landscape that features scores of newspapers, broadcasters and online news sites.

The Taliban on Thursday said it is not specifically targeting media as part of a widening insurgency, but warned organizations they should not align themselves with Tolo. The emergence of a free and vibrant media is seen as one of the main achievements of post-Taliban Afghanistan. During their five years in power, the Taliban banned television to stop people viewing what they derided as vulgar, immoral and anti-Islamic material.Saad Mohseni, the owner of Tolo and the country's largest media mogul, said in a statement on Thursday the journalists killed were working to uphold freedom of speech in Afghanistan."The voices of those who we have lost will not be forgotten," Mohseni said.

Pakistan attack raises tough question: should teachers shoot back?
I'm not sure what's "tough" about the question.
[REUTERS] Stuck with 15 of his students on a third floor balcony of a campus building as gunnies came up the stairs, university director Mohammad Shakil urged Pak police arriving at the scene to toss him up a gun so he could shoot back.

"We were hiding ... but were unarmed," Shakil told Rooters, speaking after four Islamist Lions of Islam attacked Bacha Khan University in Pakistain's troubled northwest on Wednesday, killing more than 20 people.

"I was worried about the students, and then one of the Lions of Islam came after us," Shakil added. "After repeated requests, the police threw me a pistol and I fired some shots at the terrorists."

As more details of Wednesday's assault emerged, attention focused on at least two members of staff who took up arms to resist attackers bent on killing them and their students.

Some hailed them as heroes, as the country digested an attack which bore similarities to the massacre, in late 2014, of 134 pupils at an army-run school in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. , about 30 km (19 miles) from where this week's violence occurred.

Others questioned whether teachers should be armed, as many are, because it goes against the ideals of the profession.

Such a dilemma may have been far from the mind of chemistry professor Hamid Hussain, as he locked himself inside a room with colleagues after gunnies stormed an accommodation block on the university campus.

When the assailants broke down the door, Hussain fired several rounds from his pistol, according to Shabir Ahmad Khan, an English department lecturer taking cover in an adjacent washroom.

"They carried on heavy shooting and I was preparing myself for death, but then they did not enter the washroom and left," Khan recalled.

Later on in the same building, Hussain fired again at the Lions of Islam to allow some of his students to get away, surviving pupils told local media. Hussain was subsequently shot and later died from his wounds.

"Kudos to professor Dr Hamid Hussain. Our hero fought bravely n saved many," Asma Shirazi, a popular talk show host, said on Twitter.

Home Front: Culture Wars
The sky is falling on print newspapers faster than you think
A guardian of a free society continues its decline, in moral, spiritual as well as financial terms.
Last October, a McKinsey report declared, “We believe that many of the people likely to abandon print newspapers and print consumer magazines have already done so…. We believe most of this core audience — households that have retained their print subscriptions despite having access to broadband — will continue to do so for now, effectively putting a floor on the print markets.”
The instrument the chap in the photo is holding with the wires attached is the next item to go.
Wow. Just because of inertia? Is the only medium-term threat to print the fact that most of its current audience will gradually die over the next 30 years? That would be great news, especially because nearly all newspapers still get most of their revenue from print advertising.
Not just inertia. Some people have birds. Some still wrap fish.
But it doesn’t feel right in a world in which even mature adults’ media consumption habits seem to be quickly evolving.
There's a reason why Geritol and Depends are advertised on the network evening news...
The customers they really want have their noses buried in their phones.
Then, amid the hubbub about the Boston Globe’s delivery problems, I was struck by the Globe’s statement that they have only 115,000 daily print subscribers, and only 205,000 on Sunday. Really? I had had a sense that the Globe was still much bigger than that. So I poked around online, and, indeed found much larger numbers for Globe print circulation.

But they were from 2013, which is the last time print newspaper circulation figures were widely reported.

The simple chart below lays out the numbers for “total average print circulation” of the nation’s 25 largest newspapers as of March 2013. These are the basis for the figures you get if you Google search the issue or look for a list on Wikipedia. Then the chart compares these with the number of copies most recently reported to the Alliance for Audited Media (in September 2015) for “individually paid print circulation,” that is the number of copies being bought by subscription or at newsstands. This is the best indication of consumer demand for the product. In both cases, the figures are for weekday average circulation. Sunday numbers are generally higher.

Saudi grand mufti says playing chess is forbidden in Islam

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's grand mufti Sheikh Abdullah al-Sheikh during a television program said playing chess is forbidden in Islam, British newspaper The Guardian reported.
"That which is not required is forbidden."
Responding to a question on a television show in which he issues fatwas (religious decrees) after listening to viewers' questions, Sheikh said playing the board game is 'haram' (forbidden) as it encourages gambling and is a waste of time.

He claimed that the game was "included under gambling" and was "a waste of time and money and a cause for hatred and enmity between players".

Al-Sheikh justified the ruling by referring to a verse in the Koran banning "intoxicants, gambling, idolatry and divination".

Iraq's Supreme Shia holy man Grand Ayatollah Ali al Sistani too had issued a decree terming the game 'haram mutlaqan' (forbidden absolutely or under any circumstances), with or without betting.

CNN's Toobin Suggests Govt Overclassifying Info Causing Hillary Clinton 'Suffering'
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] Appearing on Wednesday's At This Hour with Berman and Bolduan on CNN to discuss the latest revelations that some of the email on former Secretary of State's server was considered highly classified, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin ended up downplaying her culpability in her behavior as he asserted that she was "suffering from" the tendency of government agencies to "overclassify" information.
Toobin: "She is now suffering from that because people are saying there's all this classified information she's dealing with, but there is not a bright line between classified and unclassified, and you can see, at least to a certain extent, why she was not clear on what was what."
There's actually a pretty bright line between classified and unclassified in almost all cases. I recall a particular conversation years ago that involved a guy telling his wife he had to work, after he'd had a conversation with his mistress telling her he'd be there for the holiday. The conversation itself was crap, but its classification level was way above routine top secret because of the way it had been obtained.
After Toobin explained that, even if classified information was not marked as classified, she could still be prosecuted if she should have known it was classified, co-host Kate Bolduan followed up:
And that question almost depends on who you're talking to.
I suppose it might, if you're talking to some dimwit like her who'd never produced nor handled classified information.
Because when you talk to the Hillary Clinton
... sometimes described as For a good time at 3 a.m. call Hillary and at other times as Mrs. Bill, never as Another Tallyrand ...
campaign, they point out that this kind of gets to the heart of where this has been dispute between the State Department and the intelligence community over what was classified and what should have been classified at what point. I mean, this really gets into the weeds.
Only if you're smoking them. In the Army we had Army Regulations that laid it all out pretty clearly, in tedious detail, in fact. Within the government there are pretty straightforward regulations, even in the State Department.
At the end of the day, I'm left wondering who's going to decide. Who gets to decide?
Federal lawmakers, for startsies, then the heirarchies within the organizations, in coordination with other branches of the intelligence community, probably under the guidance of the DCI. We're not talking about obscure, dusty tomes dating to Oliver Cromwell's time. We're talking about well-established federal law (Hillary's a lawyer, right?) as maintained, modified, and regularly updated, even under the Obama regime.
The CNN legal analyst called the overclassification of information a "minor but real scandal" as he began his response:
Well, the FBI is going to decide if she's prosecuted. I mean, ultimately, that's the decision I think everybody cares about. I mean, one of the, you know, minor but real scandals in the U.S. government has been for decades is that people overclassify things, is that a lot of information that is not all that sensitive is treated as classified.
State Department cables are seldom unclassified. Intelligence analysis (end product) seldom is, and then almost always after redaction. Raw intelligence information never is. Pretty simple rules to live by, eh?
He then suggested an excuse for Clinton as he added:
She is now suffering from that because people are saying there's all this classified information she's dealing with, but there is not a bright line between classified and unclassified, and you can see, at least to a certain extent, why she was not clear on what was what.
'Splain that to a federal prosecutor who's not been dropped on his or her head.
Bolduan recalled the Clinton spin as she concluded the segment:
Even if it's not legally clear, we'll see what the political ramifications are with all of this coming out. And definitely the campaign has been pointing out, they believe this is an inspector general with an axe to grind, is kind of the way they're pointing to it.

FBI ran website sharing thousands of child porn images
WASHINGTON — For nearly two weeks last year, the FBI operated what it described as one of the Internet’s largest child pornography websites, allowing users to download thousands of illicit images and videos from a government site in the Washington suburbs.
Is this some sort of tribute to a former director ?
The operation — whose details remain largely secret — was at least the third time in recent years that FBI agents took control of a child pornography site but left it online in an attempt to catch users who officials said would otherwise remain hidden behind an encrypted and anonymous computer network. In each case, the FBI infected the sites with software that punctured that security, allowing agents to identify hundreds of users.

The Justice Department acknowledged in court filings that the FBI operated the site, known as Playpen, from Feb. 20 to March 4, 2015. At the time, the site had more than 215,000 registered users and included links to more than 23,000 sexually explicit images and videos of children, including more than 9,000 files that users could download directly from the FBI. Some of the images described in court filings involved children barely old enough for kindergarten.

Refugees may bring new infections into Denmark
Danish hospitals have been warned by authorities to be on the lookout for diphtheria, an illness that hasn’t been seen in Denmark for nearly 20 years but may have returned with asylum seekers.

The Danish State Serum Institute (SSI) said on Tuesday that diphtheria was found in two Libyan refugees.

“The infection can be very dangerous if one isn’t vaccinated against it. The dangerous type is very rare and we last saw it in Denmark in 1998,” SSI spokesman Kurt Fuursted told Metroxpress.

SSI has warned Danish hospitals about the possible return of diphtheria and Metroxpress reported that asylum seekers have also been found to carry tuberculosis and malaria. Unlike some European countries, Denmark does not screen arriving refugees for illnesses but Fuursted said that policy might change.
It's one of the founding principles of public health, a science that originated in Europe...
We've had similar problems with the unscreened illegal "unacompanied children" streaming across our southern border. Now is not a good time to be the child of an antivaxxer.
“There is no doubt that infectious diseases are coming in with the refugees that we aren’t used to. There have been discussions on whether all refugees who come to Denmark should be screened," he said.

Health Minister Sophie Lunde told Metroxpress that immigration officials and the Danish Health and Medicines Authority (Sundhedsstyrelsen) will discuss possible changes to screening policies. Officials will also discuss the need to vaccinate arriving asylum seekers, who often come to the country without having been vaccinated against illnesses they risk catching in Denmark.

Denmark doesn’t not vaccinate arriving migrants despite recommendations from the World Health Organization to do so.

33 Kurd kommies die on southern Turkey
URFA – At least 33 members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were killed on Thursday in renewed clashes with the Turkish army in the Kurdish southeast.

The Turkish army said in a statement that Thursday’s clashes centered in the southeastern provinces of Şırnak and Diyarbakir.

In Şırnak, clashes renewed on Thursday evening between the PKK and Turkish army forces in the vicinity of the war-torn towns of Cizre and Silopi, where 29 Kurdish rebels were killed.

The Turkish authorities claimed that 391 Kurdish fighters have been killed so far in the military operations in Şırnak province.

In Diyarbakir, the Turkish troops clashed with PKK fighters in the town of Sur, where four Kurdish fighters were reported dead.

According to the army statement, 108 PKK fighters have been killed so far in the army campaign in the town of Sur.

On the other hand, Kurdish activists reported the death of dozens of civilians at the hands of the Turkish army troops over the past few weeks.

“The Turkish army avoids mentioning the civilian casualties in its brutal campaign against the Kurdish region,” civil rights activist Ehmed Hokenek told ARA News in Cizre.

“The Turkish bombardment has caused mass displacement among civilians, destruction of infrastructures and death of more than 50 civilians in Cizre alone,” Hokenek said. “The casualties are carefully documented, and our teams are trying to do the same in other Kurdish provinces, with a hope that the international community would ever take action and stop this brutal military campaign against the Kurds.”

Denmark city makes pork mandatory to restrict Muslim refugees
[Iran Press TV] A Danish city has made serving pork mandatory in an apparent bid to tighten restrictions for Muslim refugees coming to the country.

Frank Noergaard, a member of the council in Randers, said on Thursday that the council has ordered pork to be a mandatory feature on municipal menus, including in schools and daycare centers.

The move was first proposed by the anti-immigration, populist Danish People's Party and approved by Randers City Council.

Noergaard, himself a member of People's Party, denied the move was directly linked to increasing restrictions being imposed on the refugees arriving in Denmark, saying the council approved the decision earlier this week to to ensure that pork remains "a central part of Denmark's food culture."

He said, however, that there has been "several complaints about too many concessions" being made to Muslims in the small, predominantly Lutheran country.

"The signal we want to send here is that if you're a Muslim and you plan to come to Randers, don't expect you can impose eating habits on others," he added.

The government in Denmark has already faced huge criticism over its decisions to tighten immigration with officials in the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
refugee agency saying some of the measures, like the one which forces asylum-seekers to hand over valuable to cover up their housing and food costs, are targeting the dignity of the refugees.

Denmark has a history of opposing Muslims' habit of eating, with former prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt lashing out at some nurseries in 2013 for serving halal-butchered meat instead of pork because Muslim children had refused to eat.

Afghanistan

[Tolo News] After the death of the Taliban's former leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, the Taliban split into two main factions -- the first one led by Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour and the second led by Mullah Mohammad Rasoul

(Council) has 18 members, which has the responsibility of making Taliban's strategies. The council is considered as the main factor behind the war in Afghanistan, Sharif said.

Based on him, another group which is led by Mullah Rasoul has focused more on Afghanistan.

Mullah Manan Niazi
...deputy to Taliban faction supremo Mullah Mohammad Rassoul Nowrozi...
and Mullah Baz Mohammad
...deputy to Taliban faction supremo Mullah Mohammad Rassoul Nowrozi...
Haris are his deputies, Sharif said in his report.

He added that he has found that Pakistain has little control over the Taliban faction led by Mullah Rasoul. The group led by Mullah Rasoul is more interested to join the grinding of the peace processor -- compared to other factions of Taliban, he added.

In addition he said there are a number of key Taliban leaders in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...

...Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, Head of the Taliban political office in Doha. He was a member of Rassoul Sayyaf's group in the war against the Soviets....
, head of the office, Mullah Jan Mohammad Madani, Mullah Shahabuddin Dilawar, Suhail Shahin, Mohammad Zahid Ahmadzai and Abdul Salam Hanafi.

According to him, the Qatar Taliban office has the responsibility of Taliban's foreign policy. This office takes orders from Quetta Shura, the report said.

According to the report, there are five key members of Taliban -- including Mullah Fazil Akhund, Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwah, Mullah Abdulhaq Wasiq, Mullah Noorullah Noori and Mullah Mohammad Nabi Omari.

Sharif said that the Taliban is not the only problem for Afghanistan; there are up to 5,000 foreign rebels, including Arab, Chechen and Uzbek fighters, fighting against security forces in Afghanistan.

It is believed that if the Taliban agrees to peace with the Afghan government, the groups will still pose a threat to the country's security.

Bacha Khan University attack: Police comb Charsadda, arrest several suspects
[DAWN] A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Thursday against the four unidentified bully boyz who attacked Charsadda's Bacha Khan University, killing 20 people and injuring at least a dozen others.

An injured university employee, Muhammad Fayyaz, expired this morning in the Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit at Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
's Lady Reading Hospital ─ where two others maimed in the attack remain at death's door. The corpse count now stands at 21.

The FIR lodged was lodged on behalf of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) by Station House Officer Irfanullah of the Serdheri cop shoppe in CTD Mardan under sections 7 and 15AA of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Search operations in Charsadda are ongoing as police comb the area around the university. Several suspects have been incarcerated
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
During initial investigations, four grenades, 16 magazines and 240 cartridges were recovered from the site of the attack, CTD sources said.

Several schools were closed last weekend after intelligence suggested bully boyz were planning an attack, according to Muhammad Amir Rana, director of the private Pakistain Institute for Peace Studies. A Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
government front man said they were closed as part of a security drill.

Fazle ur-Rahim Marwat, the university's vice chancellor, said security forces alone could not keep students safe, saying it required a move away from an extreme interpretation of Islam.

After the Peshawar attack, the government promised to set up a joint Intelligence Directorate, but that has not happened yet.

"The government is trying to develop a response but is facing capacity issues," Rana said, particularly in the area of intelligence-sharing among the powerful intelligence agencies and the police.

Rana, whose institute tracks krazed killer movement, said the divisions in the Taliban over who carried out Wednesday's attack probably has more to do with a fear of retribution than a reflection of a deeply divided Taliban.

The backlash that followed APS attack was so severe that it probably left the Taliban "reluctant to take credit", he added, noting that Afghan cops joined in operations against Pak Taliban hideouts afterward.

In a presser after the attack, Pakistain military front man Lt. Gen Asim Bajwa stated the attackers carried mobile phones with Afghan numbers and "were in touch with their handlers in Afghanistan."

He added that the bully boyz hate education because it is a symbol of progress.

Pakistain maintains that its bully boyz often find refuge in Afghanistan.

Reports emerged in late December 2015 that six Colombian troops and an Australian commander had been killed in festivities with Yemen's Houthi fighters and allied forces in the southwestern part of the country.

According to Yemeni sources, the Colombians have been dispatched to Yemen under an agreement between the United Arab Emirates, a major ally of the Saudis in the Yemen war, and a US-based security services company formerly called Blackwater.

The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
reported on November 25 that the UAE has "secretly" deployed 450 Latin American troops, most of them from Colombia but among them Panamanian, Salvadoran and Chilean soldiers, to fight in the war on Yemen.

Washington has also been helping the Saudis in their bombardment of Yemen by providing logistics and intelligence to the Saudi air force.

LeJ, Al Qaeda militants planning terror attack arrested in Karachi: CTD
[DAWN] Police's Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday claimed to have incarcerated
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
11 suspected bad boys, belonging to banned Al-Qaeda in the sub-continent (AQIS) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ), after an encounter in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
"The arrested suspects were planning an attack similar to the one on Karachi airport in Jun 2014, on a vital government building on Shahrah-e-Faisal," claimed CTD official Ali Raza during a presser. But the officer did not specify the government building.

Raza identified three held suspects as Mohammed Irshad alias Zahid and Qari Mohammed Hasan, both commanders of AQIS, and Qari Mohammed Akram of the LeJ.

In June 2014, a bad boy attack on Karachi international airport left 28 people dead, including 10 attackers.

The attack had started when gunnies disguised as police guards stormed the terminal after opening fire with machine guns and a rocket launcher. This attack led to the launching of Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
in North Wazoo to control growing militancy in the country.

"During initial probe, they admitted they were planning a Karachi airport-like attack on an official building located on Shahra-e-Faisal," said the officer, adding that they had also planned attacks on senior coppers.

Police also claimed to have seized a huge quantity of kaboom and sophisticated weapons from their custody.

Recovered weapons included one IED-fitted rickshaw, 10 bottle bombs (IEDs), a rocket launcher, five RPGs,10 hand grenades, six red signal rockets (parachute), 20 detonators, two parcel bombs, surgical masks, first aid equipment, two Kalashnikov, 10 TT pistols and other arms and ammunition in addition to banned literature.

Residency rights of four East Jerusalem terror suspects revoked
[IsraelTimes] Move against Paleostinians accused of killing four in two separate attacks is first since current round of violence began

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri revoked the residency rights Thursday of four Paleostinians charged with taking part in deadly attacks in Jerusalem. The move was the first revocation of such rights in 18 months, and the first since the start of a round of violence that has rocked the country over the last four months.

Israel effectively annexed East Jerusalem in 1980 and granted Arab residents some rights, but not full Israeli citizenship.
...although they can have Israeli citizenship for the asking. Some ask. The wonder, given the regular demands in negotiations for the right of return, is that they don't all do so, flooding the zone, as it were.
Deri, who said he would seek to have terrorists' residency revoked after entering office earlier this month, said those who murdered Israelis or harmed state security would no longer be able to enjoy the privileges the state afforded them

"This is an exceptional step but the severity of their actions completely justifies my decision," he said.

Three of the Paleostinians were indicted for throwing stones at a car in the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Armon Hanatziv on the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, causing driver Alexander Levlovitz, 64, to lose control of his vehicle and crash into a pole. Considered by some the first casualty in the current round of Paleostinian violence, Levlovitz died of his wounds the next morning.

The three, all of whom have been charged with manslaughter, are Muhammad Salah Muhammad Abu Kaf, 18, Walid Fares Mustafa Atrash, 18, and Abed Muhammad Abed Rabo Dawiat, 17, all of the Paleostinian East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sur Baher.

The Shin Bet said one of the three had told Sherlocks that he carried out the attack in the name of terror group Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and that they had thrown stones at several Israeli cars before hitting Levlovitz's. The group then expeditiously departed at a goodly pace, meeting later to coordinate their version of events in case they were caught, according to the Shin Bet.

The fourth Paleostinian whose residence rights were canceled was 21-year-old Jabel Mukaber resident and Hamas supporter Bilal Abu Ghanem, who, along with another man, Baha Alyan, boarded Bus 78 in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood and waited several minutes for the bus to fill with passengers before they began stabbing and shooting people, killing three passengers. He and Alyan were shot and subdued by police and the latter died of his wounds. Abu Ghanem was indicted at the city's district court in November.

One of the victims, American immigrant Richard Lakin, 76, succumbed to his wounds two weeks after the attack in which he was shot in the head and stabbed in the chest. Haviv Haim, 78, and Alon Govberg, 51, were also killed in the attack and additional 15 people were maimed.

The measure of revoking residency rights for East Jerusalemites has been used in the past. In October, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu brought up the idea of revoking residency for thousands of East Jerusalemites, drawing fire from Washington. White House front man Josh Earnest said at the time that the measure "would obviously be of some concern to us." The US, Earnest went on, reiterates the "importance of all sides avoiding provocative actions and rhetoric."

The Armon Hanatziv neighborhood saw a number of attacks and attempted attacks in late 2015, thanks to its location on the seam between West and East Jerusalem, close to the Paleostinian neighborhoods of Jabel Mukaber and Sur Baher. Eight days ago, a 16-year-old Paleostinian who allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli man near a bus stop was indicted at the Jerusalem District Court for attempted murder.

Earlier this month, police removed concrete barriers which had separated Armon Hanatziv from Jabel Mukaber since October, in a sign of increasing calm.

#2  They aren't Israeli citizens, Shipman, which means they have to move to the Palestinain territories where, in a highly tribal society it is likely they have no relatives and few if any friends. With the residency permit, if I understand correctly (a little help here please, g(r)omgoru), goes health insurance, an in-Israel work permit, and other benefits. If their wives are Palestinians rather than Arab Israelis, those wives and all children also must follow them into exile.

I don't know for certain, but I have to suspect this is in addition to the destruction of the family home.

Arabia
Afghan youths recruited for Yemen war from Saudi Arabia
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Distressing reports have emerged regarding the recruitment of Afghan youths from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
to fight in the ongoing war in Yemen.

The Afghan youths are mainly recruited to fight against the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
rebels amid ongoing campaign by Saudi-led coalition, according to BBC Persian findings.

The revelation was made after conducting interviews with the family members of the Afghan youths who have gone missing after visiting Saudi Arabia for Hajj pilgrimage.

Their family members however have said it is yet not clear who are deploying the youths to Yemen.

A man whose relative has been deployed to Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
two months ago told BBC Persian that six to seven members of his family have left for Yemen after visiting Saudi Arabia for Umra Hajj pilgrimage.

The man identified as Ahmadeen further added that 40 to 45 people from the close villages and the youths are mainly participating in the war in Yemen to defend from Mecca holy city.

This comes as reports emerged late in the month of August last year suggesting at least 3,500 Afghans are fighting in Syria in support of Bashir al-Assad.

Relatives of a number of those killed while fighting for the Syrian regime have said the Afghan nationals are lured by the month salary of $700 and Iranian residency permit.

There are no reports regarding the exact casualties of the Afghan nationals participating in the Syrian conflict as well as likely participation of the Afghan youths in Yemen war, although numerous pictures and videos of the Afghans captured by the Syrian rebels have emerged with their fate yet to be determined.

Turkey konfiscates Kurd konvoy entering Kobane
URFA – Turkish border guards prevented an aid convoy from entering the Kurdish border city of Kobane in northern Syria and confiscated its content after arresting the aid workers.

The convoy, which was carrying medicines to be delivered to the people of Kobane, was stopped in Suruc town at the border with Syria.

The Turkish authorities in Şanlıurfa province said in a statement that the aid convoy was trying to cross the border into Syria “illegally”. The authorities considered the convoy as illegal for trying to help “a terrorist organization” in Syria, in reference to the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) that are in control of Kobane.

YPG and allied rebels have liberated Kobane from militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) last February. Thousands of civilians have returned then to Kobane after months of displacement. However, the city has been suffering a sharp shortage of medicine and other basic supplies for nearly a year.

The Turkish army has recently hit headquarters of the Kurdish YPG forces in northern Syria on 23 occasions, according to Kurdish officials. Turkey considers the YPG an ally to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is deemed by the Turkish government as an outlawed “terrorist organization”.

Woman dies and soldiers injured in Benghazi fighting
Fighting in Benghazi has intensified in the last 48 hours as the army repelled one assault by IS and then appeared to make ground in Sabri and Suq Al-Hud.

However, the terrorists have fired a series of mortars and shells one of which this evening slammed into a block of flats killing a 49 year old woman teacher. Four soldiers were seriously injured in today’s fighting while the army claimed that it had killed at least three IS fighters who had been attacking a base in the chocolate factory.

Last night five Grad missiles were fired from Leithi and landed near Benina Airport causing minor damage but no injuries.

Reporting on the fighting has been made difficult by recent army restrictions. An army source told this newspaper that there was concern that IS commanders were gaining useful intelligence from TV footage shot immediately behind the lines. There are also unconfirmed reports that the terrorists have been using a hobbyist drone to spy out army positions.

Meanwhile Benghazi continues to suffer from electricity cuts because of last week’s rocket damage to the Benghazi North power station. State power company GECOL has been trying to operate a rolling programme of shutdowns each lasting not more than two or three hours. However this morning part of the city centre was without electricity for six hours.

Paedophile who repeatedly raped three-month old baby dies after collapsing in his cell
[EXPRESS.CO.UK] Robie Hollyson, 31, from Bedfordshire, was part of a child sex abuse ring which targeted babies, toddlers and pre-school children.
The moral droppings at the bottom of the human cage.
The men preyed on families with young children, so they could later attack the youngsters. In one case they groomed a young couple who was about to have a baby. The depraved group has been described by a judge as "beyond human instinct".

Hollyson was previously known as Robin Fallick and then changed his name to James King. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
"He's probably had that poker sticking out of his ear hole for some time. I'm not in the least suspicious. How about you?"
"Suspicious? About what?"

Following Hollyson's death, a spokeswoman for the Prison Service said: "HMP Bristol prisoner James King (04/07/84) was found unresponsive in his cell on Friday 15 January.
"You there! With the poker shoved in your ear hole!... He's not responding, warden!"
"Well, we'll try again in another couple hours. Mabe he'll feel more responsive then."

"Prison staff attempted CPR and paramedics attended, but he died in hospital on Sunday 17 January.
"He's dead, Jim!"
"You're sure?"
"Goddammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a bookie!"
"Leave the poker in then, Bones."
"Good idea."

"As with all deaths in custody, the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
"Cause of death?"
"Put down 'heart failure.'"
"In the end, that's what they all come down to, isn't it?"

Russians survey new airbase on Syria-Turkey border
Russia appears to be making preparations to establish a new airbase in Syria, this time along the border with NATO-member Turkey, a senior U.S. official tells Fox News.

The move is bound to anger the Turkish government months after the downing of a Russian jet by the Turks.

A handful of Russian military personnel, including engineers, has been seen in the vicinity of a largely abandoned airfield in Qamishli, a city in northeast Syria along the border with Turkey. The area is largely controlled by Syrian Kurds, with pockets of regime-controlled territory including the airport.

Russia and Syria’s Kurds have a common enemy in Turkey and make natural allies.

Gunmen attack beachfront restaurant in Mogadishu
[CNN] A suicide boom-mobileer and gunnies on Thursday attacked a beachside restaurant in the capital of Somalia, a country that's no stranger to such bloody attacks.

Gunfire was also heard at a nearby hotel, according to Col. Abdulkadir Ahmed, a police brass hat.

Ahmed said that a car rammed the gate of the Beach View restaurant and banquet hall overlooking Mogadishu's Lido Beach. Militants then entered the building.

It was not immediately clear how many people were killed and injured in the attack.

Nor was it known for certain who is responsible.

In the past, such attacks have been linked to Al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
, an al Qaeda-linked murderous Moslem organization based in the East African nation. The group's aim is to turn Somalia into a fundamentalist Islamic state, according to the Council on Foreign Relations, but it has seemingly gone beyond that goal -- and beyond Somalia -- with a host of horrific attacks, like last year's massacre at Kenya's Garissa University College and a 2013 siege of Nairobi's upscale Westgate Mall.

Yemeni Army Fights off Infiltration Attempts in Jizan
Yemeni army and the Popular Committees fought off attacks by militants loyal to the Soddy forces in Sirwah district in the eastern province of Marib, compounding losses for the attacking units.

Moreover, the national military managed to liberate a number of hills towards the Al-Dimna military site east of Kovel camp.

Battles in Marib province are witnessing a major shift as the army and Committees managed to change the confrontation strategy from defense to attack.

On the border with Saudi Arabia, Yemeni sources reported that an attempt by the Saudi army and forces loyal to the Saudi-led coalition on Yemen to advance towards Alramadh area in Jizan has been defeated.

Saudi Abrams tank and Bradley vehicle have been destroyed by guided missiles in Jizan.

Saudi-led coalition fighter jets committed a massacre in Taiz, killing six students and a woman, and wounding eight others in targeting the Al-Harir area.

Fourteen other civilians, mostly women and children, were also killed when military drones of the Saudi-US aggression bombed Baqim Directorate in Saada province north of Yemen.

IED defused near bus stand in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: An improvised explosive device, weighing three to four kilograms, was defused near the Haji Camp Bus Stand in Peshawar by Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) personnel on Thursday.

BDS personnel told DawnNews that the three to four kilograms of explosive material was used in the making of the bomb which was also fitted with a remote controlled detonator. The bomb was planted along the roadside near the bus stand.

Police also claimed to have arrested a suspicious person from the vicinity.

It is pertinent to mention that the frequency of attacks have increased since the beginning of the year, at a time when the Pakistan Army is conducting the Operation Zarb-i-Azb against militants in the tribal areas, having cleared most of the areas in the region previously under the control of militants, both foreign and local.

National Action Plan (NAP) was also implemented following the tragic attack on Army Public School (APS) Peshawar, which led to a sharp decrease in terrorist attacks across the country; with the army operations in tribal areas combined with intelligence-based operations in urban areas which had a noticeable impact on the operational capabilities of the militants.

Low-intensity attacks, including suicide bombings have targeted security forces and civilian targets, including the attack on security personnel guarding a polio team in Quetta, IED attack on FC in Balochistan and the Jamrud suicide attack on paramilitary forces in recent days.

Al Qaeda's Emir of Sana'a Banged in Yemen
It is the fate of Number Threes to be replaced, because they spend their time actively managing things and being all leadery and stuff. Numbers One and Two are kept safe in splendid isolation, developing the plans that Number Threes put into effect.
Well informed security source said that al-Qaeda Emir was killed by the security guards of army Brigadier Fouad al-Emad.
Hurrah!
Imad Ahmad Mohammad Shash was killed along with other militants as they attacked the house of Brigadier Emad, the sources said.
Hopefully among the dead are large numbers of highly skilled, technical Number Fours who hadn't time to pass on their skillz.
Shash was the so-called “Al-Qaeda’s Emir of Sanaa”, the sources said, adding that he was involved in several terrorists attacks that rocked the capital in the latest months.
Judging by his picture, he had a few good meals before he went titzup.
Shash is also known with other names: “Nibras al-Sanaani, Shaker, al-Dob (bear) and Sami,” the sources said, citing the confessions of several terrorists arrested by the Yemeni security apparatus.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Details of what Iran may have taken from Captured US Sailors
Source is suspect; presented here because no one in the U.S. government is being straight with us. Truth will eventually come out.
When Iran freed 10 American sailors it had detained last week, it kept something — the SIM cards from two satellite phones that were in the Americans’ possession.

The first report on the incident, released Monday, noted the loss. “A post-recovery inventory of the boats found that all weapons, ammunition, and communication gear are accounted for minus two SIM cards that appear to have been removed from two handheld satellite phones,” said the report from the U.S. Central Command.

The importance of that loss could be substantial, according to a former naval intelligence officer who spoke to Independent Journal.

“Those SIM cards don’t just contain the satellite links,” he said. “They also include encryption codes, and otherwise unpublished data relating to specific orders and personnel,” he added.

The former naval officer said those SIM cards should not have been allowed to fall into Iranian hands.

“My first thought is that they should’ve destroyed those SIM cards in the first place because that is considered classified information. I hope that their careers are not tarnished for it,” he said. “The first thing an officer is told is to destroy anything of intel value lest it fall into enemy hands.”

The loss of the SIM cards, and the potential loss that could follow from exploiting information on them, calls to mind comments from Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.

“We’d be stupid to think that they didn’t [gain classified information]. I’m glad that the sailors are back safe, but there’s no way [the Iranian military] just let those boats sit there, and didn’t reverse engineer, or look at and copy everything that they possibly could,” he said.

The Pentagon is still developing a final report to explain how the sailors ended up in Iranian waters, where they were captured and detained for about 18 hours.

Nearly four dozen Yemenis killed in fresh Saudi airstrikes
[Iran Press TV] Almost four dozen civilians have bit the dust in multiple Saudi aerial attacks against a number of regions across Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
as Riyadh pushes ahead with its military onslaught against its southern neighbor.

On Thursday, Saudi fighter jets launched a series of Arclight airstrikes against residential neighborhoods in the Dhahyan district of Yemen's northwestern province of Sa'ada, located 240 kilometers (150 miles) north of the capital, Sana'a, leaving 14 members of a family dead. There was a number of children among the dear departed.

The development came only hours after at least 18 medical staffers were killed when Saudi warplanes struck the same region.

Separately, Saudi air raids against an oil facility in the Red Sea port city of Ras Isa claimed the lives of at least 15 people. Medical sources said at least 30 people were also maimed in the Arclight airstrikes.

'I decapitate you' Women workers threatened and forced to DRESS DOWN at refugee centre
[EXPRESS.CO.UK] A FRUSTRATED refugee centre worker has revealed shocking incidents of cheating, death threats and demands for a luxury life from migrants.

In a searing indictment of the behaviour of some refugees, the woman said her idealism has been eroded and virtually destroyed.

At first she said was enthusiastic in her role of helping process tens of thousands of migrants arriving in Germany on a weekly basis. Now, she says she is disillusioned, disheartened and on the verge of quitting due to demands and sexual harrassment.

She told Welt am sonntag newspaper she took on the role at the refugee centre in Hamburg last Autumn and was "overjoyed" at the thought of "helping the refugees".

But after a few days, she said, her enthusiasm was drained away.

The woman, whose identity has been protected, said: "Of course you may not assess all refugees the same: there are many who are very friendly, happy to be here, very grateful, very willing to be integrated.

"But if I am honest, working with 90 per cent of them is rather awkward and unfortunately not as I previously thought.

"First of all, many of them are extremely demanding. They come to me and ask to get an apartment and a fancy car and, best of all, even a really good job for them.

"If I try to explain to them that's not possible, they are often noisy or even really aggressive.

"An Afghan only recently threatened to kill himself. And a few Syrians and a group of Afghans have declared they would go on hunger strike unless I would help them to move to another place.

#3  P2k, I would call that fundamentally Islam, too. It is not extreme Islam it is the basic stuff.

This brings back a real blast from the past for me. Way back in '74 I got a job with the Soc Sec Agency. A lot of us recent college grads were hired to deal with the back log of cases expected when SSI was put in.

I was working in lower Manhattan and they used to bus claimants in from the worst areas, Bed Stuy, Lower East Side etc. Most of the newbs were girls from the Ivy League type schools and sounded just like this woman. It took them about a month on the job before they were the biggest racists and nastiest liberals you'd ever meet. No compassion at all.

I didn't completely blame them these were not generally nice, clean people we were dealing with but the schadenfreude in the before and after images was quite enjoyable.

Boy who cut off 'blasphemous hand' says he has no regrets
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] A Pak boy says he has no regrets about cutting off his own hand after being accused of blasphemy.
And welcome to the lack of it he is. Stupid schit.
In his first interview since the incident made global headlines, 15-year-old Qaiser told the BBC: "Why should I feel any pain or trouble in cutting off the hand that was raised against the Holy Prophet?"

Qaiser took his drastic action after mistakenly raising his hand when a holy man asked if anyone present did not believe in the teachings of Islam's holy prophet Mohammed.

Although the story has horrified an international audience, it has made fewer waves in Pakistain where blasphemy remains an offence punishable by death -- whether delivered by courts or mobs. Amputating his own hand may have saved his life.

Syrian fighters may have helped plan attack on KDF in Somalia
Kenya Defence Forces top commanders led by General Samsom Mwathethe are investigating the increasing role of foreign terrorist fighters used to target Kenya. The military and Ministry of Interior are examining links with ISIS after some 10-15 fighters, who are not of Somali origin, were found to be part of the group of suicide bombers who attacked the KDF camp in El Adde Somalia on Friday.

Documents seen by The Standard and authored by the Ministry of Defence point to an influx of foreign fighters and particularly Jihadists being used on the front line against specific targets.

“Al Shabaab are now receiving both technical and financial support from Syria, ISIS and other likeminded entities,” the report said.

The report points at how several unsuccessful attempts on KDF camps in Hoosingo in 2012 and Baure in 2015 are instructive.

“In these attacks, Al Shabaab have been repulsed by KDF and suffered massive injuries and fatalities.” Preliminary findings show there were foreign fighters involved in the planning and execution of the El-Adde Kenya Defence Forces attack.

This confirms fears that there are pockets of foreign fighters who have now joined the militant group Al Shabaab. Officials citing intelligence sources said the foreigners are now in charge of many issues and are protected by the militants.

Iraq
2 Yezidis kidnapped in northern Iraq
ERBIL – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) abducted on Thursday two Yezidi men from Shingal (Sinjar) district in northern Iraq, local sources reported.

“ISIS terrorists kidnapped two men in the Sakiniya village in Shingal on Thursday evening. The abductees are believe to have been taken to the ISIS-held Baaj area near Mosul,” a Yezidi activist told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“The terrorists infiltrated into the village from southern Shingal, apparently in an attempt to take some new Yezidi hostages to spread fear among the desperate Yezidi community,” the source said.

“We are highly concerned about the fate of the abductees. We are afraid that ISIS terrorists would execute them,” the Yezidi activist added.

The Kurdish Peshmerga troops regained control of the Yezidi Shingal region in northern Iraq in November, after fierce battles against ISIS.

In August 2014, ISIS extremists had taken control of Shingal, causing a mass displacement of nearly 400,000 people to Duhok and Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan. Tens of thousands of Yezidis remained trapped in Mount Sinjar, suffering mass killings, kidnappings and rape.

Subsequent to the liberation of the area at the hands of the Kurdish forces, thousands of Yezidi civilians returned home. The return of the displaced Yezidi families followed intensive operations by the Peshmerga to dismantle land-mines and explosive devices left by ISIS militant fighters before their withdrawal from Shingal in November.

However, Yezidi civilians remain concerned about their safety, especially after witnessing several infiltration attempts by ISIS militants into Shingal over the past two months.

Afghanistan
Afghan Clerics Defy Taliban, Condemn Attack On TOLO TV Staff
[Tolo News] Following the deadly attack on employees of TOLO TV that killed seven, a number of prominent Afghan religious scholars on Thursday strongly condemned the attack and defied the Taliban for their crimes and violent acts against humanity and Islam.

The holy mans termed journalism as a sacred profession and said terrorist attacks are against the teachings of Islam.

They said that the forces of Evil by posing threats to civilians are trying to tarnish the image of Islam and the Islamic society.

"Reporting is a sacred profession," Lotfullah Haqparast, a religious scholar said.

"Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) says that the biggest jihad is to utter the truth while you are faced with an oppressive or a cruel ruler," he added.

"There is no justification for such cowardly acts in the Sharia Law (Islamic law). Islam has never supported such repressions," religious scholar Sayed Samiullah Sahibzada said.

The remarks come after seven TOLO TV employees were killed in a Taliban attack on Wednesday.

ISIS troops advance in Aleppo
ALEPPO – Clashes broke out on Thursday between Syrian rebels of the Levant Front and militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the northern countryside of Aleppo, military sources reported.

Subsequent to fierce clashes, ISIS militants reportedly captured the town of Qereh Kubri on the border with Turkey, forcing rebel fighters of the Levant Front to evacuate their headquarters there.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, Mahmoud Nimr, spokesman for the Levant Front, said that ISIS militants attacked their headquarters in Qereh Kubri with a number of mortar shells, killing and wounding several rebels.

“Then clashes broke out between our fighters and ISIS terrorists in the vicinity of Qereh Kubri. We were eventually obliged to evacuate the town in order to avoid more losses,” the Levant Front’s spokesman said.

“ISIS has apparently received large reinforcements from its headquarters in Manbij. The terrorists were highly prepared for today’s clashes,” he said.

In the meantime, the radical group launched a mortar attack on the rebel-held town of Marea north of Aleppo, causing casualties among civilians.

“At least seven civilians were killed and 11 others were wounded in the ISIS shelling on Marea on Thursday,” local civil rights activist Ahmed Ghannam told ARA News.

“The shelling caused the destruction of several residential buildings and infrastructures in Marea,” the source reported.

This comes after ISIS militants lost several strategic areas in the northeastern countryside of Aleppo to the western-backed alliance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Militants attack near Libya’s Ras Lanuf oil terminal
Reuters, BenghaziThursday, 21 January 2016
Suspected ISIS militants attacked oil installations close to Libya’s Ras Lanuf terminal on Thursday, an engineer at the port and an energy official allied with the country’s eastern government said, and the group threatened more attacks.

The officials said at least two storage tanks from the Harouge Oil Operations company had been set on fire near Ras Lanuf, where militants also launched attacks earlier this month.

ISIS fighter Abu Abdelrahman al-Liby said in a video posted on the group’s official Telegram channel: “Today Es Sider port and Ras Lanuf and tomorrow the port of Brega and after the ports of Tobruk, Es Serir, Jallo, and al-Kufra.”

The energy official, Mohamed al-Manfi, said a pipeline leading from the Amal oil field to the Es Sider terminal had been targeted. There were clashes between militants and Petroleum Facilities Guards, but Manfi and a guard’s source later said these had stopped and the militants had retreated.

New deadly clashes in Tarhouna
Fighting broke out once again
Again?!
today in the town of Tarhouna, 80 kilometres south east of Tripoli, on this occasion between the pro-Islamist Al-Kani brigade and local families opposed to it. Three people are said to have been killed and the Kani brigade to have blown up a number of homes of their opponents.

The brigade is allied to Ahmed Assadi, one of the local members of the General National Congress and regarded as one of its most hardline Islamists.

Tarhouna, once a Qaddafi stronghold, has seen regular bouts of clashes and killings in the past three years between between local families either supporting the revolution or considered unsympathetic to it.

Last August, following protests in part of the town at the death sentences passed on Saif Al-Islam and Abdullah Senussi and seven other leading members of the former regime, the Kani brigade shelled it when it was blocked from entering and arresting the protestors.

It is said that the main Tarhouna brigade led Islamist Salah Marghani has not been involved in today’s fighting. It is usually based near the ruined Tripoli International Airport.

Marghani and his family were accused of being responsible for the massacre last March of several members of the rival Habshi family.

Former Sec Def Bob Gates: Obama Thinks He's The Smartest Person In The Room
...which is, to the discerning, proof positive of where he actually ranks.
[DAILYCALLER] Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who served during the B.O. regime, has turned into a harsh critic of the president, saying that Barack Obama

always thinks he's the smartest person in the room.

Gates also bashed Obama for bringing on advisers who do little else but constantly agree with his proposals, fostering a group-think environment where dissenting opinion essentially does not exist, The Free Beacon reports. In other words, there are no "strong" people around the president. And when there is dissent, Obama tries to crush it. Back in October, Politico reported that Obama's advisers urged him to deal with Syria more aggressively, but the president refused to listen to advice. Now, the administration has been forced to acquiesce to Russian demands that Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

"You know, the president is quoted as having said at one point to his staff, 'I can do every one of your jobs better than you can,'" Gates told Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC's Morning Joe, on Tuesday.

7 dead after suicide car bomb explodes near Russian embassy in Kabul
At least seven people have been killed in a suicide car bomb explosion that struck near the Russian embassy in Kabul. A terrorist was apparently targeting a van carrying local journalists, Afghan officials say.

At least 20 more people, including women and children, were injured in the incident, Reuters reported citing Ismail Kawusi, a spokesman of the Ministry of Public Health. Earlier, Afghan Deputy Minister of Interior Muhammad Ayoub Salangi earlier tweeted that four people had been killed and 24 were injured.

The suicide car bomb attack took place on Darul Aman road, according to embassy spokesman Aleksey Kosarev. He said there were no casualties among the embassy staff.

The suicide bomber targeted a vehicle owned by a company that works for Afghan Tolo News – the country’s 24-hour news channel, Kabul Police Chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi told reporters without revealing any specific information concerning casualties among journalists.

Following the terrorist attack in the immediate neighborhood, Russian embassy in Kabul enhances its security, a statement at the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“Russian diplomatic mission takes measures to enhance security of the embassy and its personnel in cooperation with the Afghan authorities,” said a statement published on its website, confirming that there are no casualties among the embassy employees with the building suffering only minor damage.
